In the terms of producers marketing is about what services and products to produce, when and why
to introduce new offers. It is also about determining the volume of supply, the correct price, and
when and where to make products available to buyers.
The marketing concept holds that the key to achieving organisational goals consists in determining
the desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves
or enhances the customers and the society s well being. Kotler (1991:16 26) this identifies that it is
important for businesses to determine customer satisfactions more efficiently and effectively to
gain a competitive advantage and help reach organisational goals.
Demand are supply relationships are used between consumers and suppliers and are vital for the
marketing economy as stated by Heakal (2015) states: supply and demand is perhaps one of the
most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of the market economy .
The main aim of this marketing method is to accomplish something called equilibrium, this is when
demand and supply meet in the middle. For businesses to be able to accomplish this, it is vital to
fully understand the behaviours of customers, also their wants and needs. Businesses should use the
information of customer behaviour to

Classical Music And Its Influence On The Culture Of...
Poetic Dissonance Classical music is earnest music engendered in the traditions of Western music.
Many great composers were born in that era kenned as the mundane practice period. For my
classical project I went to the Music Center s Walt Disney concert hall. It has had many famous
classical performances over the past few years. I witnessed something unique and enlightening
when I entered the orchestraperformance and heedfully aurally perceived all of this solemn music. I
discerned many famous composers this evening. Their denominations were Paul Hindemith, Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Benjamin Boone, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Arturo Marquez conducted by
Thomas Loewenheim. The pieces performed were Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl
Maria von Weber; Allegro, Turandot: Scherzo, Andantino, March, Concert for Violin in D major;
Allegro Moderato, Waterless Music, Symphony in D minor; Revolutionary Petrograd, Razliv,
Aurora, Dawn of Humanity, and Danzon. I optically discerned many people and instruments being
played all over the theater. Mostly everyone I optically discerned was professionally dressed up.
The instruments being played were the violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet,
bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, percussion, and piano. The most
fascinating thing I cerebrated was intriguing was that they endeavored integrating water as an
instrument in the waterless music piece and it genuinely sounded congenial. When I entered the

The Problem Of Social Anxiety
Through perseverance, dedication, and patience, isolated people can immediately change
transform themselves to fearless people who have no difficulty whatsoever with communicating.
This has been proven throughout the ages and in my family as well. Whether you are the extreme
loner at your school, or a jobless person willing to sacrifice anything to receive a job, you can
become intrepid conquering your isolation issues. In my family, my mother used to be extremely
shy among others when she was in high school. She had a few friends, and, in addition to that, had
some case of social anxiety. Often ignored by others, she refused to give up. Throughout time, she
improved immensely and now has a multitudinous amount of friends. Also, she currently has no
social anxiety due to her conquering her fears of social rejection. My mother now owns a
successful business as a result of this beneficial change. You can always change no matter what. All
you need to do is act efficiently and face your fears. You can help face your fears by taking
extracurricular activities such as band, choir, academic teams, volunteering, etc. Even Albert
Einstein played an instrument, the violin, while conducting his research on the relationship
between energy and mass. By having extracurricular activities, you can easily communicate with
others as extracurricular activities mostly require you to communicate in order to help others.
Most of the time, people in extracurricular activities all target a

Dyslexia Essay
The Roles of Genetics and Nurture on People with Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a lifelong struggle with constant challenges with reading and speaking. About five to
ten percent of the United States population deals with the learning disorder dyslexia (Van den
Honert, n.d.). It is a neurological condition that is mainly caused by genetics but there are some
rare cases in which it is acquired. Dyslexia interrupts the normal processes of reading and
speaking (Van den Honert, n.d.). All of which are used in daily life and this makes life and school
so much harder for dyslexics. They must learn to live with the condition for their entire life and

They also cannot seem to speak effortlessly. It takes them so long to get thoughts out that when
telling a story they sometimes forget where they were going with it. They know what they want
to say and they know the words they want to use but it takes them so much effort to string them
together. (Boston children s hospital, 2005). This causes a dyslexic so much frustration and
also embarrassment (Boston children s hospital, 2005). There are different tests that can be
done to test for dyslexia. One test that is done is giving a person many words that sounds like
real words but are spelled incorrectly. It is hard for dyslexics to pick these words out (Van den
Honert, n.d.). Also, tactile localization is another test used and it tests the corpus callosum. The
patient is instructed to close their eyes while someone touches their finger and the patient must
identify where they were touched and if they make more than two errors this is a sign of dyslexia
(Van den Honert, n.d.). When a person is diagnosed with dyslexia they must be aware of the
challenges they are going to face. They must be educated about their condition and how it will
never go away they just have to try their hardest to overcome it. As a child it creates frustration and
embarrassment while in class, or even talking with friends. Unfortunately there is no treatment but,
there are strategies and actions taken to help people deal with their dyslexia. Treatment for
dyslexia is not done with use of

The Making of a Confederate
The romanticized version of the Civil War creates a picture of the North versus the South with
the North imposing on the South. However, after reading The Making of a Confederate by
William L. Barney, one can see that subdivisions existed before the war was declared. The
documents analyzed by Barney primarily focus on the experiences of Walter Lenoir, a southern
confederate and a member of the planter elite. His experiences tell a vivid story of a passionate
and strongly opinioned participant of the Civil War as well as demonstrate a noticeably different
view involving his reasoning when choosing a side. Between analyzing this fantastic piece of
literature and other resourceful documents from Voices of Freedom by Eric Foner, one... Show more

He defends the South s position on slavery which is a deeply grounded belief. Abraham Lincoln
describes this situation as a disagreement on the definition of liberty in his Address at Sanitary
Fair, Baltimore (1864). He explains that liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with
himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men
to do as they please with other men (Forner 287). It is easy to see how this disagreement was
heading in a catastrophic direction as the South continued to fight for the whole reason they came
to America in the first place. The Confederates were willing to fight to death to defend their
definition of freedom because the North winning the war equated to the very same thing in their
minds; the end of their lives. Not every southern Confederate felt this strongly about slavery or
desired to go to war. Some southerners, like the Lenoirs, did not necessarily want to have slaves
but didn t really know how to accomplish anything without them on a plantation. Walter Lenoir had
planned to move north to be free of the burdens of managing slavery, but with the battle at Fort
Sumter, Southerners who were leaning one way or the other were suddenly forced to defend their
homes and families from what they considered a declaration of war. Walter had already decided
that, If we are to have disunion, I will cast my fortunes with the South... (Barney

Puppy by George Saunders and The Lesson by Tomi Cade Bambara are both stories that show
the ugly side of poverty. In Puppy the main character Marie and her kids are well off because of
Marie s husband. However, the other family in the story which include Callie and also Callie s

The negative effects can be seen in that competition for jobs in American society is so
competitive that author John Michael Roberts asserts that people, Work for free (28). While
Americans tend to believe that competition brings out the best in people, the Marxist theory
states that it actually brings out the worst in people such as greed, selfishness, and unethical
actions. This can be seen by how the characters of The Lesson and Callie s family are living in
extreme poverty despite being in the richest nations in the world. Danzinger and Danzinger
assert, The child poverty rate in the US is high in relation to the rate in other industrialized
countries (57). This high poverty rate can be seen in The Lesson and it shows how competition
can leave some people at the bottom even in New York, one of the richest states in the United
States. Miss Moore sees that it is unjust for kids to be living in such poverty and says, Imagine
for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people spend on a toy what it would cost to
feed a family of six or seven ( The Lesson , Bambara 151). While some people get rich off
competing, some get left behind and many times the ones that do get ahead had to do something
unethical. Sylvia notices all of the unethical practices it takes to get ahead in a competitive society
and as a result, when Miss Moore gives Sylvia money

Importance Of Being Earnest Hyperbole
The Importance of Being Earnest is a satirical play by Oscar Wilde that highlights the hypocrisy
of the 19th century. During the Victorian Era beautiful advances were made in art and science
were contrasted by the extremely divided class structure with obscene wealth reigning on one end
while harsh poverty and squalor continued below. The ideal nature of the upper class was glorified,
but Wilde utilizes literature to show the gluteny and repressed nature of these individuals to a
degree nearing hyperbole in order to make the audience reflect on their own flaws. The title and
main theme throughout this work is how to become Earnest in regards to the name, but in reality
the play wants onlookers to analyse the word earnest s meaning resulting... Show more content on

However, her attitudes and hypocrisy displayed within the story show that is not the case. Lady
Bracknell, like many members of Victorian society, was worried about luxuries such as food and
objects( shown by the sustenance such as cucumber sandwiches she grew to expect) as opposed
to the actual company. This focus on money as opposed to morals extends to the marriages she
allows and does not allow. She is excited about the prospect of Algernon marrying Cecily only
after she finds out about her wealth, and still refuses to allow Jack to marry Gwendolen until she
finds out his true lineage as a pure social elite. These extremes demonstrate the importance
Victroina society placed on the social pyrimid which prevented many people within the upper
class from being ethical. Beyond this Lady Bracknell displays her own hypocrisy when she
discourages mercenary weddings, but later discuss how her marriage was motivated by money,
When I married Lord Bracknell I had not fortune of any kind. But I never dreamed of allowing
that to stand in my way (Wilde 79). Her inability to notice flaws she sees in others demonstrates
how insincere she is. Lady Bracknell at first glance is considered the most elite and wise character
within the play due to her age and social standing yet is completely immoral in her actions towards
others highlighting how the old practices of Victorian society were not practical or

Sex Segregation
Sex segregation is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor force. Throughout
history, women have been socially and professionally unequal to men. Women were expected to be
confined to the home in order to take care of the children and do the required chores, while the
man of the house was granted the luxury of experiencing the world by working to provide for the
family. Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform
work requiring muscular or intellectual development. This ignored the fact that caring for children
and doing such tasks as milking cows and washing clothes also required heavy, sustained labor.

same affect occurs for boys when look at the separation of masculinity and femininity. One of the
first solutions to be made in order to correct sex segregation in the workplace is by properly
educating students on the labor market. Due to the fact that women are already disadvantaged
when it comes to education, a stride needs to be made when focusing on career education. We
continue to bolster sex segregation by limiting women s interest, knowledge and preparation for
occupations that have been predominantly labeled male. Another solution to this societal issue
could be the implementation of a critical mass throughout male dominant occupations. This would

A Wrinkle In Time Meg Maker Character Analysis
Character Analysis of Meg Murry In the novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L Engle, Meg
Murry is a dynamic character who learns many things about herself during a journey through time
and space. Meg is stubborn and impatient, along with being whiny and angry. Although all of these
traits sound bad, they end up proving themselves to be great weapons. Throughout the novel, A
Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character who demonstrates amazing bravery, learns
responsibility, and understands love. In A Wrinkle in Time, Meg possesses a tendency to try to
hold someone s hand and force someone else to walk her through things. This shows a lack of
responsibility, more importantly, it also shows a lack of courage. Meg feels as if she acts and
looks like an oddball (7), and this may be one of the reasons why she is having trouble finding
the bravery to stick up for herself. Even when tessering with the Mrs.W s, she feels reassured
when she can feel ...the pressure of Calvin s hand about hers. (49). Although this proves to be a
problem in the beginning of the book, Meg finds the courage that she is lacking and uses it to
realize what she must do to rescue Charles Wallace. While her Father and Calvin have no idea of
who should go to try to rescue Charles Wallace, Meg realizes ...oh, I see, I see, I understand, it
has to be me. There is not anyone else. (124) Meg finds the bravery to step up and do what she
must do. In the end, Meg s bravery is the reason Charles Wallace is rescued and it is ultimately, a
genuine trait of hers. During Meg s journey, she also learns an important message of
responsibility. It seems that in the beginning of the book Meg is a wimp. She cries and whines
and acts stubborn which creates a childish and immature reputation for her. Which, really, Meg is
and she refuses to take responsibility for anything. This is extremely evident during the rescue of
her father. Meg assumes that her father will do everything for her and that when she found him
...everything would be all right. Everything would be settled. All the problems would be taken out
of her hands. She would no longer be responsible for anything. (98) Meg thought this to be true, and

Definition Essay On Open Relationships
Have you found yourself asking, What is an open relationship or Are we in an open relationship? If
so, hopefully it isn t because you agreed to such a relationship without understanding what it really
means.
If you and your partner want to have a successful relationship (open or not), it s absolutely critical to
have clarity on your expectations of each other. This is rarely more important than when
committing to a non traditional arrangement.
Okay... back to the question. What exactly does it mean to have a relationship that s open? The
complicated thing is that the term has different meanings to different people, so take a look at some
of these categories and come to a finite agreement with your partner on some open relationship

A relationship like this may or may not include full disclosure. In some cases, the faithful partner
accepts that there will be outside relationships but doesn t want to discuss it at all.
Swinging
One of the more controversial types of open relationships is the swinger lifestyle. In an open
relationship that includes couples dating others, there is often a focus on togetherness in the affairs.
In some cases, the couple dates other couples; however, there are many cases where the couple
adds a single third party to the relationship. The primary relationship comes first, but both partners
are open to fully disclosed outside relationships. When this is strictly sexual, a third (or fourth or
fifth or whatever) person may simply be included on occasion.
Swinging exists in a variety of other forms as well. In some cases, there may be a multitude of
people committed to openly sharing each other while forsaking all outside parties.

During my time at DePauw I ve been to all four Day of Dialogue sessions and have seen it evolve
from a response to brother Jed s protest to an organized annual event that aims to bring students,
faculty, and staff together to discuss campus climate and personal experiences at DePauw.
However, while this event has made progress in choosing speakers, facilitating productive
conversations, and providing topical breakout sessions, many students still feel frustrated due to
unproductive conversations that left out many groups that experience bias on campus. Most
importantly, many students feel that these days do little to address these issues on campus, that
they don t have a chance to be heard, and that one day of dialogue is not enough to... Show more

What particularly resonated with me about Leslie Williams speech was the discussion about
uncomfortable conversations about privilege and recognizing our own biases. By describing her
personal experiences, Leslie Williams emphasized that students of color, LGBTQIA+ students,
disabled students, and others often feel uncomfortable and isolated because of their identities.
Although many students feel uncomfortable speaking about these topics, admitting that we are
privileged, and recognizing that we grow up with different biases, other students feel this
discomfort every day and aren t able to escape it after Day of Dialogue ends. Although I often feel
uncomfortable admitting my own privilege, I think it is important to acknowledge that some of us
have the privilege to avoid these awkward conversations when they make us uncomfortable while
other students have to live with this discomfort every day. Avoiding these conversations not only
limits our capacity for change, but also our own understanding of how our identities are shaped by
society. Though uncomfortable, these are necessary conversations that push us to reflect on our
own experiences, admit our own biases, and have effective conversations in order to create more
equality on campus. These same themes of acknowledging privilege and the importance of stories
were emphasized during the breakout session with Peggy McIntosh: From

The Role Of Family And Caretakers Relationships
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that often leads to a disruptive lifestyle. It is a subgroup of
bipolar I which is manic and depressive episodes and bipolar II which is hypomanic and
depressive episodes. However, very little research has been done in terms of how this disorder
impacts family members and caretakers. The rationale behind this topic is to examine some of the
research done involving strengths and struggles of familyand caretakers relationships. The articles
that will be discussed include: Family Functioning in the Context of Parental Bipolar Disorder:
Association with Offspring Age, Sex, and Psychopathology, Relatives Emotional Involvement
Moderates the Effects of Family Therapy for Bipolar, and In sickness and in health: The
experiences of friends and relatives caring for people with manic depression.
While reading these articles I noticed many of them had similar themes. One of the common themes
throughout these articles is the need to continuously do more research and provide more resources
for the caretakers. Another recurring topic in the articles was the importance family relationships
have on the individual with bipolar disorder and their outcomes with treatment, along with how
these interactions affect the other members of the family. A strength that was present in each article
was the depth of detail presented in each study; this description will make it easier to replicate the
studies. These commonalities throughout the articles may be

The NCAA hurts their players by discouraging them from selling their own memorabilia, the

Oppression In Plato s The Jumping Bean
In the understanding we have to take ourselves out the equation to completely see both sides of
idea. The idea of oppression is seen as a thing of pass and not relevant to current century. The
funny thing is that being is hard for people living a specific reality of life to understand the issue
and its effects on humans around them. You see many of us are like Plato describes as prisoners
to a cave that is filled with one perspective of the world of them. Instead of breaking the chains of
society because we are comfortable. Oppression is made of many different chains that are
known as social norms that control our ideas, beliefs, and even feeling. The Jumping Bean is
amazing example of oppression among the Chicano/a culture that is depicted explicitly through
the eyes of the characters of the story. The reality of the characters are being changed and
challenged which is clouding their ability to see pass the social norm for their culture. In
examining, the work The Jumping Bean you learn of the parents of Maria and siblings are
prisoners to the society of the time period. The father is a hard working that is being tortured by
his own co workers because of his cultural background. They father a man that is sticking to the
social norm for his culture of taking whatever job you can get to take care of family to provide.
The sad thing is that he believes that he can only be a prisoner to work his does. The father doesn

Advantages Of The Earned Schedule
The Earned Schedule Solution
To resolve the drawbacks of EVM technique, Earned Schedule has been introduced to provide
stronger performance measurement indicators that express performance of a project s schedule in
units of time. ES (Earned Schedule) is like a replacement for EV (Earned Value), PD refers to the
planned duration of a project or an activity which can be a replacement of PV (Planned Value),
while AT which stands for Actual Time of an activity may replaces AC (Actual Cost).
Very similar to EVM calculations, we have new derived equations that relates to project
performance measurement but with a more sense of units of time. We now can have a schedule
variance that translates into time units, whether it was days or months, which is much more
expressive than calculating a schedule variance with a dollar sign.
The following is a comparison between Earned Value and Earned Schedule technique with respect
to their main equations:

a project to its schedule analysis. Moreover, Earned Schedule provides schedule performance

Tools. Using ES technique, the future performance of a project can be predicted easily and
precisely according to matters of time and durations. Furthermore, Earned Schedule can be used
for different sizes, scales and natures of projects. The tool is also considered useful for analyzing
the total project, sub levels and sole activities, as well as, it is capable of analyzing the schedule

College Go To College Essay
College Is the Best Thing You Can Do for Yourself
Many high school seniors choose to go to college over getting a job. They all make this decision
with the belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing
to pay thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many
people oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending schoolfor a
couple more years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial
stress, attending college is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults
valuable life lessons that benefit them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that
I m fully responsible for everything that happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1),
meaning that your professors will not make sure you are in class and getting your work done on
time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your own learning. Most of the time
in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of opportunities trying to find a
way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks 1). While attending
college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note taking, and
working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned
throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in
college, nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to
take care of yourself and become independent. These skills become especially useful in the
workplace when you will have to work together with co workers to get an assignment done for
your employer. College has the ability to change a person s life in many positive ways. Each year
you attend college, the higher your annual salary becomes. Rachel Beckstead explains how adults
with a high school diploma earn $35,256 while those who obtained a master s degree earn an
average of $69,732. Nearly double than if you ended your education after high school. As going to

Quest For Meaning
Throughout the entirety of this course, I was able to truly think critically and deeply about
faith, God, death and meaning. This section of Logos was extremely meaningful for me because
I think it is so important to have faith in something higher in order to find true meaning in life. I
choose to live my life in a way that is significant for me because I do not want to depart this
world without leaving something behind. Legacy is important to me, but so is finding meaning
within myself. The works we read, watched and discussed guided and challenged my reflections
so I could develop a clearer understanding of my quest for meaning. After reading one of the very
first readings, The Courage to Be, I realized how influential deathand meaning is on an individual s
life. In the past, I always thought those who feared death were focusing too much on the future and
forgetting to live in the present. I also thought it was senseless to feardeath because it is inevitable.
We are mortal beings: no one is indestructible. Furthermore, I do not think I would want to live
forever even if I was given the opportunity; nonetheless, fearing death is a real issue. After reading
about ontic anxiety, I developed a more sympathetic understanding of this issue. Tillich s writing

Nozick s Theory Of False Reality
Our perception of the world around us is entirely dependant on the validity of reality. Our world
could be produced or simulated by some sort of machine, or life is actually just a dream
someone dreamt up one night. Reality is dependent on our perception, which is affected by what
truly exists. Meaning that if we, as a single person, are the only thing that actually exists, then
that proves that reality is indeed not real. But considering this point is considered Solipsism,
there s enough evidence to go against it. Disproving solipsism is the key to support the idea that
reality is real. The philosophical theory of a false reality can be traced all the way back to Plato s

And if that is the case, then there is a good chance that other people don t exist as well. Of course,
even if the world around us isn t true, humanity could all be under the same illusion. As Hilary
Putnam puts it, Instead of having just one brain in a vat, we could imagine that all human beings
(perhaps all sentient beings) are brains in a vat (or nervous systems in a vat in case some beings
with just nervous systems count as sentient ). Of course, the evil scientist would have to be outside?
or would he? Perhaps there is no evil scientist, perhaps (though this is absurd) the universe just
happens to consist of automatic machinery tending a vat full of brains and nervous systems. This
time let us suppose that the automatic machinery is programmed to give us all a collective
hallucination, rather than a number of separate unrelated hallucinations. Thus, when I seem to

Compare And Contrast Mindfulness And Existential Psychology
In this assignment I will be comparing two approaches used to understand fear and sadness and
how therapists work with clients. I will summarise both the existential psychology approach and
the mindfulness approach and how they work with helping understand fear and sadness. I will
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both of these approaches, and why either one could
be considered as favourable. I will then conclude the essay with which method I m more drawn

Existential psychotherapy is a philosophical method of therapy that focuses on helping clients to

Mindfulness has been an integral part of Buddhism for 2500 years. Mindfulness has the intention to
accept and be non judgmental, but rather to focus your attention on the emotions, thoughts and
sensations happening at the present moment. For example have you ever been driving somewhere
and got to your destination only to realise you can t remember anything about your journey? The
practice of mindfulness is experiencing what we are going through right now without attaching a
load of past baggage to it, or trying to figure out ways to make it different , (Barker, p.177). When
practised, mindfulness helps you stay in the present moment, not to drift of in your mind about past
experiences, as this can build up your anxieties and fears and make things seem worse than they are.
Mindfulness meditation can become a mental position for being able to separate a given experience
from an associated emotion, and can help facilitate a skilful or mindful response to a specific
situation. Meditation starts with introducing body focussed mindfulness of the breath. This
involves noticing the body sensations associated with breath and breathing which in turn, when
practised, allows thoughts, feelings, emotions to emerge, and it can feel such a relief not to have to
fight with them to get rid of them, understand that they could just be

Flies And Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, and The Simpsons Das Bus episode, the parody of
the novel, both showcase the fierce battle between nature and the children. The reader discloses
who leads and who breaks through the harsh environment alive. These stories can compare in
numerous ways, but also differ in many ways so that The Simpsonsfans find it comical. Lord of the
Flies has a much more serious tone, while The Simpsons episode tries to add a bit of a twist that
makes it s humorful to its audience. Many of the characters in The Simpsons resemble the ones
in Lord of the Flies, which makes the two Lord of the Flies , very easy to compare and contrast.
Lord of the Flies and The Simpsons both compare and contrast Bart and Ralph, how they keep
everyone in control, and also how they become savages.
Every story has a protagonist, these characters are the ones the lead and keep everyone in control.
They give the other little characters someone to follow and guide them through whatever journey
they are going through. These two characters are Bart Simpson and Ralph from Lord of the Flies.
Bart and Ralph are very alike in both of these stories. When the kids get to the island one of the
first things that both of the boys grab is the conch. This immediately represents leadership and
communication. Both boys use the conch to get everyone s attention and to call meetings.
Instantly Ralph and Bart are looked at as the leader of their groups. Another comparison between
them is towards the end of their times spent at the island there are people who rebel and want to
kill the two great leaders. Both Bart and Ralph start off as the people to follow and quickly
become the kids to kill because of the few mistakes they made as leaders. The Simpsons episode
is considered comical to it s viewers. It is not supposed to be a serious tone like Lord of the
Flies. This is why the groups of kids both have different ways of handling things and keeping
things in order. In the episode Das Bus , Nelson portrays Jack, Lisa portrays Simon, the two twins
portray Sam and Eric, and Milhouse portrays Piggy. When Milhouse is charged for getting them
stuck on this island, it is proposed that they have a court session to

Research Paper On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal genetic disorder that is caused by mutations in the
gene DMD, which encodes the muscle protein, dystrophin. Dystrophin protein is crucial to preserve
the strength, stability, and flexibility of muscle fibers, which protects them from injury as they
contract and relax. The DMD gene is primarily located in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophyis caused by mutations in the gene that produce premature stop codons. The
premature stop codons work to bring protein synthesis to a halt, resulting in a greatly shortened and
nonfunctional form of dystrophin (Pierce, 2013, pg. 286). According to the Muscular Dystrophy

Most individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy have a deletion or duplication mutation.
These mutations eliminate dystrophin function by interrupting the reading frame or by producing a
premature stop codon. Scheuerbrandt (2013) explains if the mutation alters the reading frame by
one or two nucleotides, then a whole thread of incorrect amino acids is incorporated beginning at
the mutation site until a premature stop codon is reached, which will then prematurely terminate
the translation. Therefore, the incomplete dystrophin cannot fulfill its normal function and

Hayakawa summarized The Open and Closed mind on pages 131 3. It tells that people with

his statement, he would view the speaker as unconsciously on the enemy side. If someone rejected
the speaker, the statement is unacceptable to him too. He rejects both. They are two valued people,

The world has thousands of pressing issues ranging from hunger and illness to injustice and
education for children and due to the extremity of these matters most people believe that one person
can t make a difference. While it seems impossible there are around 86,726 foundations which were
started from one person wanting to make a change ( Foundation Stats 2014). A foundation is anon
profit non government run organization whose purpose is to ae grants to any of the thousands of
charitable purposes. There are two types of foundations, privet foundation and a grant making

money from an individual, a family, or even a corporation where as a grantmaking public charity,
such as the Ms. Foundation for women, acquires their money from several different sources

My Day Of High School Essay
It had been a busy Friday. I came home from a long day of high school, and I was so excited
because for once I didn t have a basketball practice. On top of that, I had plans to go on a date, I
was always so busy that I never went on dates. This wasn t just an ordinary date though this just

wanted to do was go home, get a snack, lay down on the couch, prop my feet up, and relax for a

Collective Bargaining From the historical background, after the World War II, Budd, Warino, and
Patton (2004) informed that collective bargaining (CB) occurred as a result of extreme nursing
shortages, causing the poor economic and working condition for nurses. Initially not promoting the
CB since nursing was considered a calling more than an occupation, Budd et al. (2004) narrated that
after realizing the need to preserve the nursing profession and the nurses welfare, the American
Nurses Association [ANA] established the State Nurses Association to represent nurses in the
bargaining duties. Thus, collective bargaining existed to empower nurses in gaining autonomy over
their practice, control over essential resources, and protest against policies affecting patients safety.

Eventually, the organization process ended due to inadequate number of signatures from nurses. In
agreement to the purpose of CB, I believe CB is an effective tool to recognize nurses value,
despite every possible measure, to the unyielding administration. Hence, from my brief employment
in a union hospital, I can list the benefits of CB: higher wages, guaranteed pay increase, job
security, and better benefits. On the other hand, disadvantages of labor unions are costly monthly
dues, obligation to participate in strikes, not always effective, and preserving bad employees.
Supposed a negotiation is needed in my current job, my demands would be in these priority orders:
eliminating mandatory overtime (on call and mandatory up staffing), reducing holiday requirements
( hallmark, pre and post holidays), increased salary (10%), and certification hourly

An Laboratory Three Submaximal Tests Were Done The Highest...
Introduction During this laboratory three submaximal test were done. YMCA Submaximal Bike
Test, Astrand Submaximal Bike Test, and The RockPort 1 Mile Walk Test. Each of these test
required taking Blood Pressure,Heart Rate, and times, either at rest or while exercising. Everyone
is a different when it comes to Blood Pressure and Heart Rate. They both depend on how
conditioned the personis. The hypothesis is determining which test produced the highest Heart Rate
and at what times. Since resistance makes a person work harder, we assume that test will be the
YMCA Submaximal Bike Test. Methods

Heart Rate was taken before and after the walk. How long it took the patient to walk was also timed.
Results: This table shows the HR and Times of the subjects during each submaximal test. For the
Astrand test Subject 1 and Subject 2 were conditioned while Subject 3 was not conditioned. All
subjects are females between the ages of 21 23. Some Sub Maximal Test required multiple Heart
Rates, the last Heart Rate was used.
HR ( Heart Rate)
Time ( when the patient finished) RHR (Resting Heart Rate)
Discussion/Conclusion Each one of these tests were submaximal meaning the patient was not to
max out. This all depends on the patient s ability or level of fitness. The Submax for some
people may actually be a Max test for others. All of these test required the subjects or patients to
do some type of physical activity which would increase Heart Rate, especially since some these
test had set time. The hypothesis was that the YMCA Sub Max test was to have the highest Heart
Rate, while also determining if time had any effect. The results showed that the hypothesis was
wrong, even with the resistance that came with the YMCA testing, the Heart Rate was still the
lowest and depended on the subject. Subject 1 highest Heart Rate was 128 at a time of 16.46
minutes, with the Rockport Test. Subject 2 highest Heart Rate was 120 at a time of 6:00 minutes,
with the Astrand. Also with Subject 2, the highest Heart Rate was 124 at a time of 6:00 minutes,

Sociology refers to the study of human society. Humans today are busier than ever. The
sociological attitude is that we, as a whole are too busy to become organized, we are always
rushing around and going a step farther hardly home as well. It conveys that if we can t make
the time to simply write what we need to do down a piece of a paper we need a device to quickly
let us have access to everything we need to do. The designers of this advertisement realizes that

The History And Evolution Of Sony Pictures
The History and Evolution of Sony Pictures The motion picture industry has endowed us an
ample amount of many years of history and excitement throughout America. Without films in
today s social and cultural society, how could we be perceptive to historical events, current
situations, or future expectations? Sony Pictures have come a long way to be where they are
now. To begin, Sony Pictures was founded in 1918 by two brothers by the name of Harry and
Jack Cohn. Harry Cohn was born on the day of July 23, 1891 in New York City. He was given
the most credit of the company throughout his producing years. Jacob Jack Cohn was the oldest
of 4 children that came from an impoverished family in Germany. He was born on October 27,
1889 in New York City. Even though Harry Cohn was noticed more for the fame of the now
Sony Pictures, he could not have done it without the help of his older brother, Jack. There was a
love hate relationship between the two. Jack and Harry didn t get along and had constant feuds
with each other. One serious brawl that happened between the two was that Jack tried to
preempt Harry by taking over the company due to the fact that he felt as if he was the one who led
the company to fame. Jack s plan didn t work due to his death in 1955 at the age of 67. A few years
after, Harry died of a heart attack in 1958. He was 66 years old. To begin their company, Jack and
Harry formed a bonding business partnership with Joe Brandt, a former lawyer who decided to

Stonehenge and its Astronomical Significance Stonehenge is a megalithic monument found in
Wiltshire, United Kingdom. It was built in three phases. The first phase was the earthwork
monument which begun in 2950BC, the second phase was the timber monument built in 2900BC
and thirdly the stone monument that was built in 2550BC.1 This essay will focus on the final
phase of the stone monument. This final phase of Stonehengeconsists of nine main components
that will be used in this essay. Firstly there is the sarsen circle, this is the outer ring of stones
which are made out of sandstone, and it is a full circle of these stones standing straight up and
interlocking stones above.1 The next layer inward is the full circle of bluestones, these stones are
not actually blue but rather gray and red.1 In the bluestone circle is what is called a horseshoe of
sarsen trilithons.1 Much like the outer ring of sarsen stones, this horseshoe shape (U shaped) is

Cant Stop Won T Stop Sociology
I believe that Can t Stop, Won t Stop, Wild Style, Egyptian Lover, Finding the funk, and Breakin n
Enterin speak to each other in helping narrate hip hop s origin mythologies. Each of these represent
different sectors of the black community and how it all intertwines. Breaking down each element it
will be easy to see how each goes hand in hand with each other.
Can t Stop, Won t Stop is an element that gives a lot of information from different areas. This
provides a highlight on some of the most important people of the time, Fab Five Freddy. The
background is shown to be described with a Jamaican element. Gangs of the Bronx had their own
contribution. This was the beginnings of DJ Kool Herc and brought up street parties. Graffiti
became popular in 1965 which made a connection to hip. Hip Hop was seen as a part of the culture.

example there was graffiti in the background. It was easy to see the different factors that are
brought out in hip hop. During the music scenes you can hear the rapping in the music scenes.
Egyptian Lover definitely brought out a different element out of the other four sectors. The
reasoning of the name Egyptian Lover was to show and let women know he was a lover and not a
fighter. Hip Hop was seen as an aggressive genre where people viewed it as being very violent.
You are able to see how he interacted with the music to create a song. He was able to bring out
Cold Crush Brothers, the Zulu Nation.
Finding the funk outlined how funk influenced hip hop in a very immediate way. Funk was an
element that was highlighted within hip hop. Many people argued that funk was the beginning of
hip hop. James Brown helped to promote black music in general and he was known as the King of
Funk. Hip Hop didn t exist when dance started, that all dealt with

John Charles Lutwidge Dodgson s The Looking Glass
Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, best known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, has written
many novels, poems, and short stories in his lifetime but his most famous for his children s
?nonsense? novels: Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the Looking
Glass. His works, especially the two mentioned, have influenced countless readers over the
years, and references to his writings can be found in every type of media from the song ?White
Rabbit? by Jefferson Airplane to the the Matrix trilogy. While both books are intended for a
child s entertainment, they are full of symbolism and hidden critique. His clever wordplay, use
of logic and reasoning, and incredible imagination are all trademarks of his style of writing,
which is often referred to as ?literary nonsense.? To readers with little experience with Carroll s
work, this term seems to perfectly describe Carroll s confusing and often rambling style, but
when more thoroughly inspected, it becomes obvious that this ?nonsense? has a far deeper
meaning. Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is about a young girl, Alice, who gets bored doing
her multiplication tables one day and follows a white rabbit into a hole. Through this hole, she
ends up falling into Wonderland, a place where there are potions and foods that can change the
drinker s size, a tea party thrown by a Mad Hatterand a March Hare, and a Caucus race that
everybody wins. As Alice journeys through Wonderland she meets stranger and stranger, or,

Plum Point Park Essay
Issue Proposition Plum Point Park was once a place for sprouted overgrown weeds and rotting
piers. Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the
bleak plot of land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the
park is now considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife
living along the Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of
potentials that the park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing
areas throughout the park, the scenery can become very monotonous. In August of 2016, Global

How Did St. Thomas Aquinas Influence
The Philosophical Influence of St. Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica St. Thomas Aquinas was
an Italian Dominican friar, a Catholic priest, and one of the most influential philosophers of the

This section is broad, so I will only cover the main details supporting God s existence. The
question posed here is about why there is a need for God, if all knowledge, except philosophy,
requires only human knowledge, therefore rendering any other science useless. The belief
presented by Aquinas is about what happens when knowledge is given to humans that is beyond
their understanding. He argues that this is when faith must prevail and so a higher being must
exist. Sacred doctrine is more important than other sciences. Many people are certain this is not
possible as other sciences are certain and have often been proven true through laws and reason.
Still, just because sacred doctrine might not be certain in its answers, it does show the weakness of
human intelligence. Higher things require great knowledge and belief in science, making sacred
doctrine, even more important than the hard sciences that everyone knows (1. Aquinas, 2.

Black Hawk Down Analysis
Our troops went through easily the most horrible days of their lives in the Battle of Mogadishu.
They spent a full day, which presumably felt like an eternity, fighting their hearts out for our
country. The novel Black Hawk Down illustrates the story of the horrific battle that took place
on October 3, 1903 (Bowden 3), moreover, BHD teaches us important lessons that especially
apply to teenagers in MUSD because we have a marine base in 29 Palms. The knowledge we
acquire from BHD relating to the battle, the men s experiences, and the families worries allow us
to behave respectfully in our community. This book presents us with knowledge of what battle is
truly like, moreover, how extensive the preparation the troops go through is. They are trained for
every predictable scenario, even how to act in captivity (Bowden 307). The troops additionally
experienced intense fighting, furthermore, real battles are much more horrible than we can imagine
and quick thinking is necessary. The American teaches soldiers that they cannot shoot unless fired
upon, but this rule was broken during this heated battle in order to potentially save lives for
Americans. (Anderson). This educates us by emphasizing that that training and rules do not always
apply. The death toll of the troops was quite severe. It depleted the present community of both
America and Somalia. Eighteen Americans died and over 70 were wounded. At least 500 Somalis
were killed and over 1,00 wounded, most of them civilians

African American Vernacular English
African American Vernacular English Background: African American Vernacular English
(AAVE) is the variety previously known as Black English Vernacular or Vernacular Black
English by sociolinguists, and commonly called Ebonics outside the academic community.
However, some characteristics of AAVE are seemingly unique in its structure. It also includes a
number of standard and nonstandard English varieties are spoken by the US and the Caribbean
people. AAVE has been the core of many public debates and also the analysis of this variety has
encouraged and sustained debates amongst sociolinguists. Some speakers may use some special
aspects of pronunciation and vocabulary. Nevertheless, the grammatical features are not connected
with the variety. Several sociolinguists would reserve the term AAVE for varieties which are
marked by the existence of specific distinctive grammatical features and some of them are
discussed below. The history of AAVE and what language varieties it is related to are also a matter
of argument. Some scholars confirm that AAVE developed out a connection between speakers of
West African languages and speakers of vernacular English varieties. According to such an opinion,
West Africans learnt English on plantations in the southern Coastal States from very few native
speakers. Some say that this led to the development of a rudimentary pidgin, a very simple
language which has been extended through a process of colorization later. VOCABULARY: AAVE

It is also about determining the volume of supply, the correct price, and when and where to make products available to buyers. The marketing concept holds that the key to achieving organisational goals consists in determining the desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves or enhances the customers and the society s well being. • 4. Classical Music And Its Influence On The Culture Of... Poetic Dissonance Classical music is earnest music engendered in the traditions of Western music. Many great composers were born in that era kenned as the mundane practice period. For my classical project I went to the Music Center s Walt Disney concert hall. It has had many famous classical performances over the past few years. I witnessed something unique and enlightening when I entered the orchestraperformance and heedfully aurally perceived all of this solemn music. I discerned many famous composers this evening. Their denominations were Paul Hindemith, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Benjamin Boone, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Arturo Marquez conducted by Thomas Loewenheim. The pieces performed were Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber; Allegro, Turandot: Scherzo, Andantino, March, Concert for Violin in D major; Allegro Moderato, Waterless Music, Symphony in D minor; Revolutionary Petrograd, Razliv, Aurora, Dawn of Humanity, and Danzon. I optically discerned many people and instruments being played all over the theater. Mostly everyone I optically discerned was professionally dressed up. The instruments being played were the violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, percussion, and piano. The most fascinating thing I cerebrated was intriguing was that they endeavored integrating water as an instrument in the waterless music piece and it genuinely sounded congenial. The Problem Of Social Anxiety Through perseverance, dedication, and patience, isolated people can immediately change transform themselves to fearless people who have no difficulty whatsoever with communicating. This has been proven throughout the ages and in my family as well. Whether you are the extreme loner at your school, or a jobless person willing to sacrifice anything to receive a job, you can become intrepid conquering your isolation issues. In my family, my mother used to be extremely shy among others when she was in high school. She had a few friends, and, in addition to that, had some case of social anxiety. Often ignored by others, she refused to give up. Throughout time, she improved immensely and now has a multitudinous amount of friends. Also, she currently has no social anxiety due to her conquering her fears of social rejection. My mother now owns a successful business as a result of this beneficial change. You can always change no matter what. All you need to do is act efficiently and face your fears. You can help face your fears by taking extracurricular activities such as band, choir, academic teams, volunteering, etc. Even Albert Einstein played an instrument, the violin, while conducting his research on the relationship between energy and mass. By having extracurricular activities, you can easily communicate with others as extracurricular activities mostly require you to communicate in order to help others. About five to ten percent of the United States population deals with the learning disorder dyslexia (Van den Honert, n.d.). It is a neurological condition that is mainly caused by genetics but there are some rare cases in which it is acquired. Dyslexia interrupts the normal processes of reading and speaking (Van den Honert, n.d.). All of which are used in daily life and this makes life and school so much harder for dyslexics. It takes them so long to get thoughts out that when telling a story they sometimes forget where they were going with it. They know what they want to say and they know the words they want to use but it takes them so much effort to string them together. (Boston children s hospital, 2005). This causes a dyslexic so much frustration and also embarrassment (Boston children s hospital, 2005). There are different tests that can be done to test for dyslexia. One test that is done is giving a person many words that sounds like real words but are spelled incorrectly. It is hard for dyslexics to pick these words out (Van den Honert, n.d.). Also, tactile localization is another test used and it tests the corpus callosum. The patient is instructed to close their eyes while someone touches their finger and the patient must identify where they were touched and if they make more than two errors this is a sign of dyslexia (Van den Honert, n.d.). When a person is diagnosed with dyslexia they must be aware of the challenges they are going to face. They must be educated about their condition and how it will never go away they just have to try their hardest to overcome it. • 7. The Making of a Confederate The romanticized version of the Civil War creates a picture of the North versus the South with the North imposing on the South. However, after reading The Making of a Confederate by William L. Barney, one can see that subdivisions existed before the war was declared. The documents analyzed by Barney primarily focus on the experiences of Walter Lenoir, a southern confederate and a member of the planter elite. His experiences tell a vivid story of a passionate and strongly opinioned participant of the Civil War as well as demonstrate a noticeably different view involving his reasoning when choosing a side. Between analyzing this fantastic piece of literature and other resourceful documents from Voices of Freedom by Eric Foner, one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He defends the South s position on slavery which is a deeply grounded belief. Abraham Lincoln describes this situation as a disagreement on the definition of liberty in his Address at Sanitary Fair, Baltimore (1864). He explains that liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men (Forner 287). It is easy to see how this disagreement was heading in a catastrophic direction as the South continued to fight for the whole reason they came to America in the first place. The Confederates were willing to fight to death to defend their definition of freedom because the North winning the war equated to the very same thing in their minds; the end of their lives. Not every southern Confederate felt this strongly about slavery or desired to go to war. Some southerners, like the Lenoirs, did not necessarily want to have slaves but didn t really know how to accomplish anything without them on a plantation. Walter Lenoir had planned to move north to be free of the burdens of managing slavery, but with the battle at Fort Sumter, Southerners who were leaning one way or the other were suddenly forced to defend their homes and families from what they considered a declaration of war. Walter had already decided that, If we are to have disunion, I will cast my fortunes with the South... (Barney ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The negative effects can be seen in that competition for jobs in American society is so competitive that author John Michael Roberts asserts that people, Work for free (28). While Americans tend to believe that competition brings out the best in people, the Marxist theory states that it actually brings out the worst in people such as greed, selfishness, and unethical actions. This can be seen by how the characters of The Lesson and Callie s family are living in extreme poverty despite being in the richest nations in the world. Danzinger and Danzinger assert, The child poverty rate in the US is high in relation to the rate in other industrialized countries (57). This high poverty rate can be seen in The Lesson and it shows how competition can leave some people at the bottom even in New York, one of the richest states in the United States. Miss Moore sees that it is unjust for kids to be living in such poverty and says, Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people spend on a toy what it would cost to feed a family of six or seven ( The Lesson , Bambara 151). During the Victorian Era beautiful advances were made in art and science were contrasted by the extremely divided class structure with obscene wealth reigning on one end while harsh poverty and squalor continued below. The ideal nature of the upper class was glorified, but Wilde utilizes literature to show the gluteny and repressed nature of these individuals to a degree nearing hyperbole in order to make the audience reflect on their own flaws. The title and main theme throughout this work is how to become Earnest in regards to the name, but in reality the play wants onlookers to analyse the word earnest s meaning resulting... Lady Bracknell, like many members of Victorian society, was worried about luxuries such as food and objects( shown by the sustenance such as cucumber sandwiches she grew to expect) as opposed to the actual company. This focus on money as opposed to morals extends to the marriages she allows and does not allow. She is excited about the prospect of Algernon marrying Cecily only after she finds out about her wealth, and still refuses to allow Jack to marry Gwendolen until she finds out his true lineage as a pure social elite. These extremes demonstrate the importance Victroina society placed on the social pyrimid which prevented many people within the upper class from being ethical. Beyond this Lady Bracknell displays her own hypocrisy when she discourages mercenary weddings, but later discuss how her marriage was motivated by money, When I married Lord Bracknell I had not fortune of any kind. But I never dreamed of allowing that to stand in my way (Wilde 79). Her inability to notice flaws she sees in others demonstrates how insincere she is. Women were expected to be confined to the home in order to take care of the children and do the required chores, while the man of the house was granted the luxury of experiencing the world by working to provide for the family. Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform work requiring muscular or intellectual development. This ignored the fact that caring for children and doing such tasks as milking cows and washing clothes also required heavy, sustained labor. Due to the fact that women are already disadvantaged when it comes to education, a stride needs to be made when focusing on career education. A Wrinkle In Time Meg Maker Character Analysis Character Analysis of Meg Murry In the novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L Engle, Meg Murry is a dynamic character who learns many things about herself during a journey through time and space. Meg is stubborn and impatient, along with being whiny and angry. Although all of these traits sound bad, they end up proving themselves to be great weapons. Throughout the novel, A Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character who demonstrates amazing bravery, learns responsibility, and understands love. In A Wrinkle in Time, Meg possesses a tendency to try to hold someone s hand and force someone else to walk her through things. This shows a lack of responsibility, more importantly, it also shows a lack of courage. Meg feels as if she acts and looks like an oddball (7), and this may be one of the reasons why she is having trouble finding the bravery to stick up for herself. Even when tessering with the Mrs.W s, she feels reassured when she can feel ...the pressure of Calvin s hand about hers. (49). Although this proves to be a problem in the beginning of the book, Meg finds the courage that she is lacking and uses it to realize what she must do to rescue Charles Wallace. While her Father and Calvin have no idea of who should go to try to rescue Charles Wallace, Meg realizes ...oh, I see, I see, I understand, it has to be me. There is not anyone else. (124) Meg finds the bravery to step up and do what she must do. In the end, Meg s bravery is the reason Charles Wallace is rescued and it is ultimately, a genuine trait of hers. During Meg s journey, she also learns an important message of responsibility. It seems that in the beginning of the book Meg is a wimp. She cries and whines and acts stubborn which creates a childish and immature reputation for her. Which, really, Meg is and she refuses to take responsibility for anything. This is extremely evident during the rescue of her father. Meg assumes that her father will do everything for her and that when she found him ...everything would be all right. They all make this decision with the belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing to pay thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many people oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending schoolfor a couple more years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial stress, attending college is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults valuable life lessons that benefit them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that I m fully responsible for everything that happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1), meaning that your professors will not make sure you are in class and getting your work done on time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your own learning. Most of the time in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of opportunities trying to find a way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks 1). While attending college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note taking, and working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in college, nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to take care of yourself and become independent. • 28. Quest For Meaning Throughout the entirety of this course, I was able to truly think critically and deeply about faith, God, death and meaning. This section of Logos was extremely meaningful for me because I think it is so important to have faith in something higher in order to find true meaning in life. I choose to live my life in a way that is significant for me because I do not want to depart this world without leaving something behind. Legacy is important to me, but so is finding meaning within myself. The works we read, watched and discussed guided and challenged my reflections so I could develop a clearer understanding of my quest for meaning. After reading one of the very first readings, The Courage to Be, I realized how influential deathand meaning is on an individual s life. In the past, I always thought those who feared death were focusing too much on the future and forgetting to live in the present. I also thought it was senseless to feardeath because it is inevitable. We are mortal beings: no one is indestructible. Furthermore, I do not think I would want to live forever even if I was given the opportunity; nonetheless, fearing death is a real issue. After reading about ontic anxiety, I developed a more sympathetic understanding of this issue. Tillich s writing also expanded on my beliefs about fate and death when he... • 29. Nozick s Theory Of False Reality Our perception of the world around us is entirely dependant on the validity of reality. Our world could be produced or simulated by some sort of machine, or life is actually just a dream someone dreamt up one night. Reality is dependent on our perception, which is affected by what truly exists. Meaning that if we, as a single person, are the only thing that actually exists, then that proves that reality is indeed not real. But considering this point is considered Solipsism, there s enough evidence to go against it. Disproving solipsism is the key to support the idea that reality is real. The philosophical theory of a false reality can be traced all the way back to Plato s Allegory of the Cave, where 3 prisoners are trapped in a cave and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, the evil scientist would have to be outside? or would he? Perhaps there is no evil scientist, perhaps (though this is absurd) the universe just happens to consist of automatic machinery tending a vat full of brains and nervous systems. • 30. Compare And Contrast Mindfulness And Existential Psychology In this assignment I will be comparing two approaches used to understand fear and sadness and how therapists work with clients. I will summarise both the existential psychology approach and the mindfulness approach and how they work with helping understand fear and sadness. I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both of these approaches, and why either one could be considered as favourable. I will then conclude the essay with which method I m more drawn too, and with the resources and evidence available to me I will explain why. Existential psychotherapy is a philosophical method of therapy that focuses on helping clients to learn to live well in the face of the inevitable adversity and uncertainty of life itself , (Langdridge, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mindfulness has been an integral part of Buddhism for 2500 years. Mindfulness has the intention to accept and be non judgmental, but rather to focus your attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations happening at the present moment. For example have you ever been driving somewhere and got to your destination only to realise you can t remember anything about your journey? The practice of mindfulness is experiencing what we are going through right now without attaching a load of past baggage to it, or trying to figure out ways to make it different , (Barker, p.177). When practised, mindfulness helps you stay in the present moment, not to drift of in your mind about past experiences, as this can build up your anxieties and fears and make things seem worse than they are. Mindfulness meditation can become a mental position for being able to separate a given experience from an associated emotion, and can help facilitate a skilful or mindful response to a specific situation. Meditation starts with introducing body focussed mindfulness of the breath. This involves noticing the body sensations associated with breath and breathing which in turn, when practised, allows thoughts, feelings, emotions to emerge, and it can feel such a relief not to have to fight with them to get rid of them, understand that they could just be ... • 31. Flies And Lord Of The Flies Analysis Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, and The Simpsons Das Bus episode, the parody of the novel, both showcase the fierce battle between nature and the children. The reader discloses who leads and who breaks through the harsh environment alive. These stories can compare in numerous ways, but also differ in many ways so that The Simpsonsfans find it comical. Lord of the Flies has a much more serious tone, while The Simpsons episode tries to add a bit of a twist that makes it s humorful to its audience. Many of the characters in The Simpsons resemble the ones in Lord of the Flies, which makes the two Lord of the Flies , very easy to compare and contrast. Lord of the Flies and The Simpsons both compare and contrast Bart and Ralph, how they keep everyone in control, and also how they become savages. Every story has a protagonist, these characters are the ones the lead and keep everyone in control. They give the other little characters someone to follow and guide them through whatever journey they are going through. These two characters are Bart Simpson and Ralph from Lord of the Flies. Bart and Ralph are very alike in both of these stories. When the kids get to the island one of the first things that both of the boys grab is the conch. This immediately represents leadership and communication. Both boys use the conch to get everyone s attention and to call meetings. Instantly Ralph and Bart are looked at as the leader of their groups. Another comparison between them is towards the end of their times spent at the island there are people who rebel and want to kill the two great leaders. Both Bart and Ralph start off as the people to follow and quickly become the kids to kill because of the few mistakes they made as leaders. The Simpsons episode is considered comical to it s viewers. It is not supposed to be a serious tone like Lord of the Flies. This is why the groups of kids both have different ways of handling things and keeping things in order. In the episode Das Bus , Nelson portrays Jack, Lisa portrays Simon, the two twins portray Sam and Eric, and Milhouse portrays Piggy. • 35. Research Paper On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal genetic disorder that is caused by mutations in the gene DMD, which encodes the muscle protein, dystrophin. Dystrophin protein is crucial to preserve the strength, stability, and flexibility of muscle fibers, which protects them from injury as they contract and relax. The DMD gene is primarily located in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophyis caused by mutations in the gene that produce premature stop codons. The premature stop codons work to bring protein synthesis to a halt, resulting in a greatly shortened and nonfunctional form of dystrophin (Pierce, 2013, pg. 286). Collective Bargaining In Nursing Collective Bargaining From the historical background, after the World War II, Budd, Warino, and Patton (2004) informed that collective bargaining (CB) occurred as a result of extreme nursing shortages, causing the poor economic and working condition for nurses. Initially not promoting the CB since nursing was considered a calling more than an occupation, Budd et al. (2004) narrated that after realizing the need to preserve the nursing profession and the nurses welfare, the American Nurses Association [ANA] established the State Nurses Association to represent nurses in the bargaining duties. Thus, collective bargaining existed to empower nurses in gaining autonomy over their practice, control over essential resources, and protest against policies affecting patients safety. His works, especially the two mentioned, have influenced countless readers over the years, and references to his writings can be found in every type of media from the song ?White Rabbit? by Jefferson Airplane to the the Matrix trilogy. While both books are intended for a child s entertainment, they are full of symbolism and hidden critique. His clever wordplay, use of logic and reasoning, and incredible imagination are all trademarks of his style of writing, which is often referred to as ?literary nonsense.? This section is broad, so I will only cover the main details supporting God s existence. The question posed here is about why there is a need for God, if all knowledge, except philosophy, requires only human knowledge, therefore rendering any other science useless. He argues that this is when faith must prevail and so a higher being must exist. Sacred doctrine is more important than other sciences. Many people are certain this is not possible as other sciences are certain and have often been proven true through laws and reason. Still, just because sacred doctrine might not be certain in its answers, it does show the weakness of human intelligence. Higher things require great knowledge and belief in science, making sacred doctrine, even more important than the hard sciences that everyone knows (1. Aquinas, 2. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
