Hook For A Persuasive Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of creating a captivating hook for a persuasive essay can be both
challenging and rewarding. Crafting an effective hook requires a delicate balance between
creativity, relevance, and the ability to engage the reader from the very beginning. The difficulty
lies in the need to capture the audience's attention instantly while also setting the tone for the
persuasive argument to follow.
To succeed in this task, one must possess a keen understanding of the target audience, the
subject matter, and the overall purpose of the persuasive essay. It involves not only selecting the
right type of hook, such as a compelling anecdote, a thought-provoking question, or a powerful
quote, but also integrating it seamlessly into the broader context of the essay.
Moreover, the challenge extends to maintaining coherence and cohesion throughout the essay,
ensuring that the hook naturally flows into the thesis statement and subsequently supports the
persuasive argument. Striking the right balance between being captivating and staying focused
on the primary objective can be a formidable task for any writer.
Despite the difficulty, mastering the art of creating a persuasive essay hook is a valuable skill
that can significantly enhance one's ability to communicate effectively and influence others. It
requires practice, revision, and a willingness to experiment with different approaches to find
what works best for a particular audience and topic.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on crafting a hook for a persuasive essay may pose
challenges, the process is an invaluable opportunity for writers to hone their skills in engaging
readers and making a compelling case. It's a journey that, once navigated successfully, opens the
door to persuasive writing prowess.

God having served in various positions since 1981. Dr. Newman s credibility on
the subject of race, gender, and economic issues in the Assemblies of God church is
noted in his book, Race and The Assemblies of God Church: The Journey from

With a reputation as a faith healer, and firmly believing that the baptism of the
Holy Ghost should be physical evidence of the Holy Spirit in every believer s life,
Parham, then living in Topeka, Kansas, issued a challenge to students at the
Topeka school to discover the biblical evidence of the Holy Ghost baptism. Parham
was himself seeking scriptural proof of this experience, and later on, in January of
1901, when asked to pray for a student so that she would experience the gift of
tongues, the woman began to speak in Chinese and could speak no other language
for three days. This was proof to Parham, at least, of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Lucy Pevensie In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy
(Lewis 3). In the book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, all
Lucy Pevensie wants is freedom. She wants to get away from the egregious war and
bombings. She wants her dad to be back from the hostile war and her mum to be safe
with them. She wants to play games with her three elder siblings to end the vexatious
quarreling amongst them and to excite the strict boredom of the old country house. In
all of her wants, nothing stops her persistent cheerfulness and confident attitude. Lucy
Pevensiediscovers the importance of the noble qualities which shape her into a
valorous hero through traveling to the magical land of Narnia.
Since the beginning of the tale, Lucy Pevensie shows her personality through her
spunky attitude, persevering faith and valiant courage. Despite the wretched situation
of the war, and the sad separation from her parents so the children could live safer in
the country, Lucy s attitude remains positive the entire way through. Even when her
siblings skeptically doubt her ridiculous adventure in a magical world inside a
wardrobe, Lucy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Elizabeth Svoboda s article, Could You Be a Hero , explains two major versions
of a hero. On one end of the spectrum you have feats of everyday heroism, like
helping someone cross the street. These good deeds are relatively low risk. And on
the other end, you have high stakes heroism, like rescuing someone from a burning
building. Both are important. Lucy Pevensie had both of these heroic exploits.
Living her normal life with her family, she dealt with each of her siblings through
the perspective of a true hero, by calming quarreling and asserting cheerfulness as
well as peace. Venturing into the extraordinary land of Narnia, Lucy continues the
everyday heroism but additionally becomes a more epic hero by risking her life and
rescuing others (Svoboda

In today s business industry, there are a number of management and external factors
that each organisation has to deal with during day to day circumstances. These factors
include topic areas such as technology, sustainability, leadership and management and
the common environmental factors. On a global scale, every organisation will act
differently which brings the number of competitive elements to rise. Within my essay

The most recent figures available show M S s UK business turning over ВЈ8.9bn last

John Lewis, M S is still playing catch up with the re launch of its website. This
involves simple marketing techniques including; visitors being greeted by eye
catching images that broadcast the sites new offers, again a manager s position to
overcome and deal with. Thus overall resulting in an increase in customer brand
loyalty, a boost in profit, and the possibility of increasing their short term market

Doing a SWOT analysis on M S indicates their winning strengths such as their
comfort of the past years being one of the most awarded companies in the industry,
therefore their brand identity and customer loyalty lying at a constant profitable
level. M S are also one of the most sustainable supply chain with one of the most
efficiently built organisation in the industry. Weakness s they need to consider are the
high cost of the products offered in comparison to rivals. Also for business and
marketing strategies, the necessity of the new marketing strategy focusing on the
younger audience is a big concentrated factor to be working on due to their current
middle aged target market. This has been dealt with concentrating on their younger
gender packaging, making it gender neutral solely down to recent customer
complaints of it being to gender objectified, being marketed
Powers of Horror by Julia Kristeva, Questions and Answers
To what extent are we all strangers to ourselves , even in our own countries? Answer
with reference to Kristeva s book.
Exile, the reality and practice of being barred from a native country, has prolifically
influenced many philosophers theoretical writings. Indeed, Julia Kristeva being in
exile from her native Bulgaria is a foreigner in an unascertained land. Being an
outcast influence s her philosophical, political and sociological extended essay
Strangers to Ourselves published in 1991. The book addresses a problem that
Kristeva has experienced first hand: the struggle of being a foreigner in Western
culture and the difficulties that people and nations have with treating foreigners
residing in their motherland. Jealousy drives our nationalist temperaments and
Kristeva explores the figure of the unconscious foreigner in all of us. Strangers to
Ourselves draws on the difficulty that natives have in accepting the stranger within
and if we can come to terms with this notion. The exile is often a foreigner in an
unfamiliar place or a foreigner repressed within the native s unconscious, however a
feeling of strangeness can also occur through an exclusion from the hegemonic
rationalism of modern society (Lechte: 79). There are at least two other forms of
exile that can produce the foreign ness in us: being an exile as a way to thrive
intellectually and imaginatively and being alienated as a woman. Historically and in
the contemporary world, natives incite prejudice onto
Childhood Is A Complex Concept Of Childhood
Childhood is a complex concept that has never been clearly defined, nor has it stayed
a stagnant concept across all times and cultures. The time period in which a child
exists is different depending on the time you are looking at, as are the characteristics
which are attributed to children. In the time periods that were studied in this class,
which spanned from the early modern period of literature up until the late twentieth
century, the idea of childhoodand what represented it changed vastly. In some of
our early readings, children were defined as helpless and ignorant, with very little
logic or ability to rationalize or reason. Towards the ends of our readings, when we
were getting into the books that were produced in the twentieth century, childhood is
still portrayed as innocent, but also as playful and creative, and full of life, laughter
and friendship.
In the 1700s, children were seen as naГЇve, powerless, needing protection, and very
impressionable. In Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll attempts to
create a child which is idealistically innocent and capable of reason. In his fantasy
world of Wonderland, Carroll shows an imaginative and creative child who isn t
afraid of the unusual things she is presented with, but instead embraces them and the
differences that they portray as she is different herself. He takes an interesting stance
for the time period on portraying mental health problems as something that is able to
be coped with and that should be
Body Image In The Media
The issue of distorting body image in the media and its effects on people is not a
new concept to modern time. There is a long history of body image s powerful
place in society because of people s impressions of each other based on body image.
Research has been done on the effects and outcomes of this issue. Recently,
consumers have fought with the media to try and achieve a safer way to spread
information and let these media outlets be successful without having severe impacts
on adolescents especially, among other age groups. The general ethical principle that
the stakeholders use in this fight is similar to utilitarianism, because each stakeholder
believes they are bringing the greatest good to the greatest number of people. The

The media group that retouches images skews the normal body image of people
through many of its outlets, including models in advertising and magazines, and
actors in TV and movie productions. The average model portrayed in the media is
approximately 5 11 and 120 pounds. By contrast, the average American woman is 5
4 and 140 pounds (Holmstrom, 2004). This statistic shows how the media
manipulates consumers into believing that because they are not what the average
model looks like, they are not living up to a certain standard which implies that they
need to look like that to be beautiful. Another research fact that shows a similar
concept is that, In the United States, 94% of female characters in television programs
are thinner than the average American woman, with whom the media frequently
associate happiness, desirability, and success in life (Yamamiya et al., 2005). This
association of female thinness and happiness, desirability and success makes
consumers believe they must achieve this unrealistic thinness to achieve more
ultimate goals and fulfillment in life. The media also explicitly instruct how to attain
thin bodies by dieting, exercising, and body contouring surgery, encouraging female
consumers to believe that they can and should be thin (Yamamiya et al., 2005). This
idealization of thinness in the media is seen so much, and is extremely harmful to
women s self confidence and is often associated with body image dissatisfaction,
which can be a precursor to social anxiety, depression, eating disturbances, and poor
self esteem (Yamamiya et al.,
The French And American Revolutions
The French and American Revolutions were pivotal in setting up new societies.
Economic, social, and political tensions leading up to the revolutions caused citizens
to want change in the way their government worked and functioned within society.
Those who wanted the most change within the government were called the radicals;
those who wanted the least amount of change were called the conservatives (Baradat
19; 24). The amount of change in their government was a part of the political
spectrum which grouped events and people into five groups according to how much
change they wanted. Both of the changes resulting from the two revolutions can be
classified within this political spectrum as well. While the changes in government

The British government did not have a formal constitution, but the government was
run by two sections: the monarch, and the parliament. Neither had absolute control as
the parliament was able to curb the power of the monarch and the parliament could
not pass any bills or taxes without the agreement from the monarch. Therefore, the
British government had created some checks and balances so that no one group of
government would become omnipotent. An example of this can be seen in the
English Bill of Rights written in 1698 which states, the raising or keeping of a
standing army within time of peace, unless it be with the consent of Parliament, is
against the law, (English Parliament). This shows the Parliament had some power
over the monarch. Later on, this idea of checks and balances would be put into the
American government. While the Americans did not create this idea themselves, they
believed in its value to society. Due to tensions between the American colonists and
the British, the colonists wanted to break away and form a government where their
ideas were heard. The primary tension was caused by the problems in the economy.
Britain was left with a lot of debt after the Seven Years War. The colonists were
blamed for this because they were clashing with the Native Americans and the French
who had other settlements further inland a space the American settlers wanted to
occupy. Fighting the Natives and the French cost the

Jackson not only menaced the Native American community, but defied the nation
he served. On several occasions, Andrew Jackson acted rebellious to United States
laws and orders. In 1813, Jackson disregarded Article IX of the treaty of Ghent ,
which demanded the return of Creek territory acquired in the treaty of Fort Jackson
2. Andrew Jackson, a general at the time, existed in no position to dismiss treaties
that the U.S. claimed as laws of the land . Fueled with the American hatred toward
Native Americans, Jackson stubbornly refused to acknowledge Creek ownership of
any land. Jackson s unruly attitude brought him close to making hazardous
international mistakes. Believing British officers were assisting local natives,
Jackson without any specific orders invaded Spanish Florida and killed every
Spanish British officer at a central military fort 1. His actions angered President
Monroe because Jackson created tension between the U.S. and Western Europe .
Exhibiting disobedience to his superiors, Jackson s actions served as a precursor to
his oppressive authority.
During his presidency, Jackson s Indian policies transformed the concept of Manifest
Destiny into a reality. Jackson , along with many Americans, possessed a Eurocentric
view and failed to recognize Native tribes as civilized sovereign nations. In 1834,

The Political Ideology Of Anarchism And On The Main...
This essay will focus on the political ideology of Anarchism and on the main
believes of this ideology. It will then specifically take under consideration the belief
that the society could survive without the state which is seen as an evil. In
conclusion, it will discuss how the absence of government would affect people s lives.
Anarchism derives by anarchy which means no rules. It s a philosophy that has is the
centre humans. It focusses on leadership because all humans cooperate to establish
rules that has to be respect by themselves, on decision making made by humans and
not by a government which is considered unusual and on the maintenance of order.

Their creativity is restricted by force based societies. Humans are social animals who
prefer to work together for the common good rather than for individual interests and
wise enough to rule themselves, they don t need any superior authority when thanks
to the humanity are together. Solidarity is the first human law, freedom the second.
Humans can shape their own lives without being influenced by others. All people are
good, innocent, rational. They have been guide in the wrong way by the authority
and by institutions. The state is the reason why crimes happen. The more people are
good and not aggressive, the more successfully the social system will work. No social
system can be successful if people are not peaceful. Anarchists think that with the
abolition of the state a new anarchist man will grew, an energic, cooperative, humane
and benevolent one. The state is considered as the plague of the society. Anarchism
tend to maximalize the opportunities for the good and minimalize the ones for the bad
(M.N. Rothbard,2006).
This essay will now take under consideration the belief that the state is unnecessary
for the survival of the society. Anarchism believe that governments shouldn t rule the
society, they believe in a stateless society.
Two are the main examples of a society without rulers; one is the primitive society
and the second one is the society with subcultures which want to make their own
rules and they are trying to eliminate the rules

Over-Exaggeration In Hamlet
In the play Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, Hamlet has a speech where he gives
advice to his actors on how to perform on stage. He advises them to not saw the air
too much and to control their emotions. His main point is to be a mirror of nature ,
or realistic. Hamlet doesn t believe that over exaggeration belongs in plays because
all they are doing is entertaining the lower class who are capable of nothing but
inexplicable dumb shows and noise. He believes that your main audience should
be the upper class who appreciate plays more since they are regular play goers. By
explicitly saying who they should be pleasing, Shakespeare is in a way suggesting a
certain audience for his plays. Hamletalso describes how actors can destroy a scene...

In Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, he really emphasizes for his actors to be a
mirror of nature, or realistic and believable. A character who fits the description of
Hamlet s advice is Richard. Richard is the vice character was born deformed,
unfinished and sent before [his] time. Because of his physical defects, he is
determined to prove villain and destroy the peace by becoming king. In order to
achieve his goal, he needs to deceive many people into believing he is someone
else. At the beginning of the play, Richard is able to deceive Lady Anne into
becoming his wife. He tells her that her beauty was the cause of that effect being
she was the reason why he needed to murder her husband and father in law. In the
process of making her believe this farfetched lie, he is eventually able to make her
his wife. This scene alone shows that Richard is a good enough actor to convince a
woman in mourning that she is the reason these deaths happened. Hamlet wants
his actors to be realistic enough to be just like Richard was with Lady Anne. By
Richard deceiving many people in the play, he shows that being a good actor doesn
t necessarily make you a good person. Hamlet s advice to actors can easily be seen
through Richard by the way he acts towards the characters in his
Joseph And The Bible
But Joseph himself also had two children Ephraim and Manasseh. In taking away her
disgrace, God showered Rachel with His grace.
The Bible does not tell us anything more about Joseph until, at the age of seventeen,
we read about him tending his father s flocks with his brothers (Genesis 37:2). Joseph
was the favourite of his father, Jacob, since he was the son of Jacob s old age
(Genesis 37:3) and the first born son of his favourite wife.
Joseph lived 110 years and there is not a single sin attributed to him.
Joseph endured trials and afflictions that most of us cannot even imagine and
nowhere does the Bible ever hint that his faith in God wavered.
Whether he was in the pit, the palace, or the prison, He was the same man.
Hardships did not harden his heart. Riches and power did not corrupt him.
He was hated misunderstood, falsely accused, mistreated, and suffered unjust
treatment, yet he never complained
In many ways Joseph is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He was beloved by his father and obedient to his will.
He was hated and rejected by his own brethren and sold as a slave.
He was stripped of his robe. He was sold for silver. He was slandered and lied about.
He was elevated from the place of suffering to a powerful throne.
No wonder Joseph is considered a type of Jesus Christ!

respected, and never did anything out of the ordinary. He had lived a quiet life in

anything that seems to disturb their daily routine and tranquility. Due to this
behavior, they are uninformed about the world outside of their little Hobbit holes.

ALS is still very unknown to the world of science and medicine, CTE can be

Placebo Literature Review
Literature Reviews
1 2In 1985 an experiment was conducted with 60 subjects with a randomised
placebo controlled trial. These patients were suffering from anxiety and stress. Half
of the patients were given a homeopathic formula marketed as L.72.2 while the
control group was given Diazepam a tranquilizing medication of the benzodiazepine
family that causes a calming outcome. The results indicated that L.72 was equally as
positive as the Diazepam medication as both groups experienced a relief of stress or
anxiety.
Validity:
The source is a well conducted and logical experiment which explores the effects of
homeopathy. The source s overall quality is good as its answers and explores the
topic it addresses. Although it is informative there was no use of citations and
scientific language. This source was not peer reviewed thus affecting its validity.
Reliability:
This source has not been repeated more than once. The amount of subjects was also
small thus effecting the reliability of this experiment. These results could have been a
coincidence and repetition is therefore imperative. It was not double blinded and the
scientists chose which group received which medication. They also collected the
information and thus can be considered biased. The absence of blinding contributes
to its unreliability.
Usefulness:
This source is a primary source and therefore is first hand, unchanged information. It
is useful as it explores the idea of placebo and its ability to heal which contributes
greatly to the rest of the research task.
Limitations:
Limitations within the experiment include the lack of double blinding which as
mentioned above effect the sources credibility.
The participants were unaware of what they were taking. However, they agreed to do
so therefore making the experiment ethical. No explanations were given for the
results obtained and why the medications were equally effective. The experiment was
found on the website The Homeopathic Coach and showed clear signs of a lack of
peer review. This contributes to the experiment being unreliable.
2 A small study was set with a group of adults with major depression, social phobia
or panic disorder. It was found that 60 percent of the patients responded

Examples Of Paradoxes In Catch 22
In Catch 22, Heller makes light of World War II by adding humor in which
characters are forced to deal with illogical, paradoxical situations that make their life
often times harder
Kuzel 7 than it already is in the Air Force. These paradoxes are seen throughout the
novel, usually accompanied by a superior officer using a rule known as Catch 22.
Catch 22 is different from other laws however, as there seem to be no set limits
and is often described as a vague, convenient solution for superior officers to use
when their orders make no sense. This law often led to crueler, corrupt leaders in the
story s plotline. The first time the main character of the book is introduced to this
mysterious law is with Doc Daneeka in the hospital ward when he ... Show more

Milo s whole business seemed to contradict itself, because this concept of buying
and selling to himself worked and made him much wealth, even though it makes
no sense to the reader. Heller is embodying the Catch 22 ideology into Milo, along
with symbolizing him as corruption. Milo embodies the idea of the Catch 22 law
through his business, where he buys new products and sells them to himself in a
different location to change the value of the product. The importance of Milo lies
in his success. He often tells people that they get a share of the profit. Everyone
gets a share of the profit according to him. This allows him to get away with terrible
actions, such as bomb his own base, and get away with it with the two colonels.
This is also the reason many of the men continue to support him even though they
know he is corrupt. Later in the book, he appeals to the colonels and pleases them
to better his own situation. He talks to the colonel and uses many paradoxes and
logic to convince the colonel to not make him have to fly any more missions.
Heller uses Milo to show corruption throughout the book, like how he is exempt
from flying more missions because he is a monetary asset to them and the other
men. The only logical way to explain how Milo s business works is the theory of
Catch 22. Heller wants Catch 22 to not be interpreted as a law, but rather as a theory
that explains paradoxes and situations that don t make sense. He suggests this
Information Technology And The Banking Industry
Since the inception of Information Technology (IT), the business world has been
transformed. In many aspects of business, IT contributes remarkably in increasing
effective usage of time, efforts and financial costs. This article is going to outline

Online banking is an important example of efforts that grow banking industry. In US,
online banking was introduced widely when four of the city s major banks (Citibank,
Chase Manhattan, Chemical and Manufacturers Hanover) started to offer home
banking services, using the videotex system. When the clicks and bricks euphoria hit
in the late 1990s, many banks began to view Web based banking as a strategic
imperative. The attraction of banks to online banking are fairly obvious: diminished
transaction costs, easier integration of services, interactive marketing capabilities, and
other benefits that boost customer lists and profit margins. Additionally, Web banking
services allow institutions to bundle more services into single packages, thereby
luring customers and minimizing overhead.

Meningococcal Disease Treatments and Vaccines Essay
Meningococcal Disease Treatments and Vaccines
Meningococcal disease is a large concern in the medical field because it is unbiased
towards the patients it infects. There has been limited success in trying to eliminate
this disease. Antibiotics play a role in helping to treat patients with bacterial
meningitis, and steroids have been tested to help reduce risk factors. Prevention has
also become a key issue because meningitis can only be spread through direct contact
with infected body fluid. The best prevention is to maintain clean hygiene. Vaccines
are another way of preventing disease. However, there are multiple serogroups of
meningitis that makes creating a universal vaccine extremely difficult. So far, there

Even one drop of nasal fluid can be enough to make another person ill if the drop of
fluid makes contact. This disease is easily spread through direct and indirect contact,
whether it is through kissing or sharing eating utensils. The easiest way to protect
against meningitis is to stay away from infected people and not to share utensils or
other personal objects with other people. Also, good hygiene is extremely

important, and it is advisable to always wash hands after use in restrooms or
before eating, as this will reduce the chance of contracting the disease. (Hirsch 22).
Monitoring social activities is also another way of preventing the spread of
meningitis. A study has shown a specific correlation between the number of
meningococcal disease and college students who rave and go clubbing. These close
contact areas are the breeding grounds for all different diseases, and meningococcal
disease is one of the more prominent causes of illness in these college students
(Pollard 2). With education from schools and public health officials, the public
would be more aware of how to prevent a meningococcal disease epidemic from
starting, and would help to reduce the number of deaths a year within a large
community. Chemoprophylaxis, or prevention through use of drugs and food
supplements, is a possibility, but usually it is best to use the tips above because drugs
and such do not guarantee complete protection.
Antibiotics play a significant role in treating patients who have
Wind Power And Energy Power
Abstract
Wind power is still the most promising renewable energy in the year of 2013. The
wind turbine system (WTS) started with a few tens of kilowatt power in the 1980s.
Now, multi megawatt wind turbines are widely installed even up to 6 8 MW. There
is a widespread use of wind turbines in the distribution networks and more and more
wind power stations, acting as power plants, are connected directly to the
transmission networks. As the grid penetration and power level of the wind
turbines increase steadily, the wind power starts to have significant impacts to the
power grid system. Therefore, more advanced generators, power electronic
systems, and control solutions have to be introduced to improve the characteristics
of the wind power plant and make it more suitable to be integrated into the power
grid. Meanwhile, there are also some emerging technology challenges, which need
to be further clarified and investigated. The global electrical energy consumption is
still rising and there is a steady demand to increase the power capacity. The
production, distribution and the use of the energy should be as technological
efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end user should be set up.
The deregulation of energy has lowered the investment in larger power plants, which
means the need for new electrical power sources may be very high in the near future.
Two major technologies will play important roles to solve the future problems.
One is to change the electrical
Erikson s Theory On Development
From leaning objective 8.9, explains the development of the personality along with
social interpersonal skills, and the concept of the self from infancy to adulthood, I
wanted to compare the first five stages of Erikson s theory on development to Ken
Wilber s first five stages of his nine stages, that he calls spaces. The first five stages
of Erikson s theory, which he notes as crisis, are trust versus mistrust, autonomy
versus shame and doubt, initiative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, and
identity versus role confusion. The first four personal spaces, of Wilber s theory
are the archaic, the magical, or egocentric, the mythical, and the rational. Erikson s
theory states that an emotional crisis must be successfully met for normal
development. Wilber s theory is similar in that he uses an example of a multiple
story building. If one stage isn t completely understood, but not mastered, then that
floor will end up leaning, and a building like that cannot be sustained for long
before its structural integrity is compromised. Erikson s theory is based that social
interactions were the most important thing to consider for healthy development of
children. The first stage, starting from infancy on to 1 year of age, has the crisis of
trust versus mistrust. This just means that they develop either of these skills based
on how well their needs are taken care of. The next crisis starts at 1 year of age up to
3 years of age, toddler age. This one is called autonomy

this brutal man. In spite of the fact that he can make a lot of money from him by
producing and selling meth, his security comes first. In that moment, he does not

money will not be important anymore. Thus, he tries to convince Walter to help

his family also. Consequently, they try to make a plan to kill this erratic violent

this house only has four people, Walter, Jesse, his disabled uncle and him, he still

American way of life. Our values often differ from values of other countries due to

Immigrants from foreign countries have and continue to move to America in search
of a land in which they have more freedom and better opportunities. By coming a
citizen, they are granted the same rights and privileges as those who were born and
raised in the United States. They are granted access to public schooling, healthcare,
unemployment, welfare, and social security. The freedom that comes with being an
American means being able to decide what paths you would like to pursue without
government interference. Personal decisions such as which church to attend and
which religion to practice can be made without fear of persecution. Similarly, electing
who we want to be responsible for running the country is a choice that Americans

America is often referred to by immigrants as the land of opportunity Americans have
the means at their disposal to go from poverty to riches in a very short amount of

Candide has fainted does he decide to intervene. It is of no surprise that Pangloss

I Am A College Student
I m a college student on a typical college student s budget, and I moved into my
apartment about a year ago. Let me tell you this, I just now decorated my room.
Yes, I spent an entire year staring at stark white walls, with nothing but last years
calendar and my celebrity crush of the moment hanging o the wall beside my bed.
There s nothing inviting about an undecorated room, in fact it s sort of depressing,
and I wouldn t recommend it to anyone. No matter what your budget, decorating is
important and can be done. Here s how I gave my room a personal touch for less
than $100. Like most people the first thing I thought of to decorate my walls with
were pictures. Little did I know how expensive pictures could be. I first looked for
framed pictures at discount retailers like Target, figuring I could get a good deal.
Wrong. Even their smaller pictures cost about $30, and while that isn t really
expensive, it was just a tad bit more than I wanted to spend on one item. I did come
across a rather small rectangular picture for $10 in the sale bin at Rite Aid, and a
matching pillar candle for the same price at Kmart, but those items ended up in my
bathroom so they don t count towards the total for my room. The point is, however,
that we can t discriminate against those really cheap shops. To find good pictures
for a really low price I recommend going to unexpected places, such as Rite Aid.
Believe it or not, you might just find one or two items you like. If all else fails,

Socrates As A Martyr And Socrates
In philosophy class this semester we spoke a lot about Socrates and his trial. We
were required to read the dialogue Apology by Plato. The Apology Dialogue is
what Plato recorded during the speech Socrates gave to the court defending himself
against the charges of corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods in
whom the city believes these two were the main charges, but underneath that there
were also other significant charges such as being considered an antidemocratic or
pro Spartan, sophistry, and being lampooned by Aristophanes in the comedy clouds .
Apology in this sense has the meaning of speaking in defense of ones beliefs or
actions. The trial is usually categorized into two interpretations which are: Socratesas
a Martyr and Socrates as an Antidemocratic. The first interpretation which says
Socrates trial and death was Socrates acting as a martyr; that interpretation is
considered more traditional and standard compared to the radical interpretation that
stated that Socrates was Antidemocratic. A martyr has different meanings, a few
definitions include: A person who is killed because of their religious or other
beliefs, a person who exaggerates their distress in order to obtain sympathy, or a
constant sufferer of something. The definition of a martyr which fit Socrates the
most is A person who is killed because of their religion or other beliefs because he
decided to die with his beliefs rather than change his beliefs and live which is a

Benefits Of Retirement Planning For Retirement
Retirement planning is essential for the future well being of retirees. Gaining
knowledge and perspective on the process will be beneficial. A lack of preparedness
may stem from the overwhelming amount of variables affecting and contributing to
retirement planning. The following literature reviews provide awareness on planning
for retirement. In an article by Burke Goldman (2015), three strategies are presented to
adopt and implement proven features and solutions. First, automatic plan features
promote enrollment and escalation to produce better outcomes. Behavioral
economics contributes to the effectiveness. Examples includes hyperbolic
discounting, heavily discounting the importance of futurebenefits in favor of
immediate action, and loss aversion, motivated by avoiding loss than achieving gains.
The second strategy involves instituting the 4 M s, milestones, measurement,
monitoring and management. In order to reach the goal retirement age and income, the
future retiree needs to recognize how much is required to save each year. The funding
goals are measured to determine if the individual needs to change course or pick up
the pace. Monitoring and management occur throughout the process. Third,
connecting the dots attempts to overcome the challenges associated with account
balances and future income. For a secure retirement, understanding options promotes
the ability to achieve better outcomes. To assist in achieving retirement goals,

Classroom Management Is Essential For Effective
Teaching...
Introduction
Classroom management is essential to effective teaching because this is what makes
a classroom flow forward in the direction of academic success and a great school
year. The text states that classroom management is comprised of the necessary
processes to create and maintain a positive environment that is conducive to teaching
and learning (Newman, 2013). Classroom management plays an important role in the
setup of a classroom. Classroom management should begin on the very first day of
school. It is how efficiently a teacher can have schedules, structure, and procedures,
well maintained in the classroom. When the teacher demonstrates what the
expectations are on day one and continues to practice these routines and procedures,
it sets the tone of the classroom from day one, and is what is expected the entire year.
A teacher uses classroom management to create and maintain a learning environment.
Discipline of students in a classroom has little to do with the learning environment
and overall management of the classroom. The learning environment will be
functional when there are positive expectations of the students. In a well managed
classroom students are involved with their work as the teacher facilitates instruction
(N. A., n. d.). This increases student achievement and there is little time for confusion
and disruptive behavior. Harry Wong states that students know what is expected of
them and are generally successful (Wong, 1998). Expectations
Similarities Between The Scottsboro Boys And To Kill A...
We know all men are not created equal in the sense some people would have us
believe...some people have more opportunity because they re born with it (Lee 274).
This phrase shows Atticus opinion about society and the luck some people are born
with. The novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee contains some similarities with
the Scottsboro boyscase in which a few black men are accused of something that
they didn t do in the early 1900 s and are taken to trial in which it results into
unexpected consequences. Justice has been routinely denied to African Americans
throughout the past century due to having an all white jury who believe in the false
accusations made by white women which has made a replacement of lynching in the
court system. In both the case of Tom Robinson and the real life version of the
Scottsboro boys, we see that justice is denied to African Americans because the jury
consists of only white. The day of the Scottsboro trial, when the jury was discussing
the final verdict, the sheriff had a talk with the doctor who examined the girls and the
jury didn t do much investigation. Klarman states, It later came out that Sheriff Wann
had warned Norris that he would be killed if he did not admit that the girls had been
raped (Klarman 160). This quote demonstrates that the trial wasn t the best since it
later came out that the doctor lied which meant that the jury didn t do much to
investigate. This shows that the jury didn t want the boys to win the trial
Essay about The Imporance of Polymers Today
A polymer is a large molecule consisting of many smaller subunits known as
monomers. There are different types of polymers and many uses for all of them.
Even though people may not realize it polymers play an essential role in our
everyday life. For polymers range from plastics, PVC, and Styrofoam to key
structures in the human body like DNA and proteins which are key components to
the human body that makes it possible for each of us to live and be unique. So
with out polymers in our body we would be dead, and with out them in our society

really is not a need to waste our precious oil and manufacture more of it.
Polymers effect every ones life almost every day allowing us to make many
valuable items that can help make our lives easier including plastic, PVC, and
shellac there are also natural polymers that we benefit from such as rubber and
amber. Polymers are truly a great and very beneficial item to everyone for they are
tough, durable, and cheap but they are also recyclable which can be very beneficial
to our environment and societal needs. The only negative effect is when it is not
properly disposed but this is really the users fault not the actual item its self
Though polymers are a very beneficial thing now, but In the future I believe that at
the very best that they will only hold the same value to society. I say this because
polymers are not a very complicated item and it would be difficult to better this
technology in a drastic way. The only further advancements I see are people
discovering ways to make polymers stronger, more durable and better suited for

Relationships In Allegory By John Bunyan
PsAlms 23:4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley,I will not be afraid, for
you are close beside me.Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. This will
guide through the things you think aren t important like your relationships, and you
victories and how to get those victories, and even the worst of all your failures you
have in life.
This book, written by a man who was in prison for preaching, he stayed in prison for
12 years ( Will you preach? , If you release me today i ll preach tomorrow. ) He wrote
this to people who needed to know the truth about life and death, John Bunyan wrote
this so people could really see life straight, so that people would know who his God
was. In this Allegory we discover many characters, but one sticks out Christian who
represents us in life he has many relationships, victories, and failures. John Bunyan
tells you many stories about all of his Relationships, victories, and failures.
Relationships are the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are
connected, or the state of being connected.Christian has great relationships with
some people, but the greatest is with his heavenly Father. He knows that his Father
will never leave him or forsake him and will never stop loving him so he puts all
his trust into a God who cares.Things that help christian get through life and keep his
relationship going with God is 2 Corinthians 5:17 18, This means that anyone who
belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is
What Does Gait Analysis Means
Gait means locomotion and evaluating locomotion by professionals is called gait
analysis. Pattern of walking differ from one individual to another. A gait cycle
consists of the activities that occur from the point of initial contact of one lower

Tabriz and Carpet
1. (a) Riya Didwania Elizabeth Burge s poem Ispahan Carpet is an extended
metaphor which aims to compare the beauty of the traditional Persian carpet
(known as the Ispahan carpet) to the appalling conditions in which the carpet
makers are forced to dwell. The central theme of the poem is to emphasize on the
exploitation of children which is prevalent in various parts of the world. This leads
to the end of all the hope and optimism that ever prevailed in the lives of the
children to have a future; a future which is bright and helps them flee away from all
the misery and desolation of carpetweaving. It intends to create awareness about child
labour which remains unnoticed and ignored through out the world. The poem...

The speaker arouses the reader s emotions of sympathy and consideration by
stressing on One hundred . The fourth stanza implies that the girls have no
knowledge beyond carpet weaving since the speaker terms their eyes as those
whose whole horizon is the carpet . Even though the guide is proud of the
exquisite creation by the girls, the tourist begins to question the morality of the
situation. The speaker uses an inquiring tone to ask who can unravel the world s
weaving? Feelings of dissatisfaction as well as curiosity are conveyed as the
speaker wonders why terrible traditions like this are being carried forward to future
generations. The speaker expresses the worthlessness of the rugs which is a
beauty, undoubtedly, but is not as essential as the childhood of the girls which is
being exclusively sacrificed to create it. As the tourist places her plump ( swollen )
hand on the bent and fragile ( greenstick ) shoulder of the girl, she feels
sympathetic towards her. The large eyes of the girl signify her loneliness and
solitude and bring about a feeling of compassion in the reader. Speaking darkness
has been juxtaposed in this stanza. The speaker along with an emotion of empathy
also has a deep sense of admiration and respect for the girls.

Cultural Destruction Essay examples
Cultural Destruction
American pop culture can readily been seen in many aspects of American life. Pop
was originally coined to mean popular. While this literal meaning still holds true,
pop culture has spun into a new generation. While pop still describes what is
popular, the term has taken on a negative connotation. Today, the term is used to
describe bands such as the Backstreet Boys and N Sync. Britney Spears has also
been coined as a pop singer. The term pop is often seen as a downfall and indicates
temporary fame. Many pop artists are thought to be just that: pop artists. They do
nothing more than achieve their five minutes of fame and then move on. Pop culture
is destroying the greatness of American culture and putting the ... Show more content

Teenage boys do not care that Britney Spears is completely constructed through
plastic surgery. The American music industry forces music into popularity based on
trivial, vain criteria instead of true talent.
Music used to convey true emotions and ideas but the music industry has destroyed
these truths in the music. Music used to have meaning and expression. The lyrics of
pop songs simply convey the empty emotion. Bottum writes, The problem begins
with the general failure of lyrics, the incapacity of sung words to introduce and
maintain in music the ideas the music itself lacks (Bottum). The producers are more
concerned with how the words flow with the music instead of the actual content of
the lyrics. The music industry creates a certain sound from the music but the content
is not really important. American pop culture is the intended audience of this music
and so the music industry feeds them the empty songs with a pretty face. If a person
has ever had a song stuck in their head, odds are that they do not really know what
the words mean. They merely regurgitate the hottest chorus from the newest pop song
without really knowing the meanings of the words. We have destroyed the truth in
our music by allowing ourselves to succumb to the music industry s ideas of pop
culture and pop music itself.
The music industry produces these monstrosities that we call pop artists and then
forces the American people to like

Crafting an effective hook requires a delicate balance between creativity, relevance, and the ability to engage the reader from the very beginning. The difficulty lies in the need to capture the audience's attention instantly while also setting the tone for the persuasive argument to follow. To succeed in this task, one must possess a keen understanding of the target audience, the subject matter, and the overall purpose of the persuasive essay. It involves not only selecting the right type of hook, such as a compelling anecdote, a thought-provoking question, or a powerful quote, but also integrating it seamlessly into the broader context of the essay. Dr. Newman s credibility on the subject of race, gender, and economic issues in the Assemblies of God church is noted in his book, Race and The Assemblies of God Church: The Journey from Azusa Street to the Miracle of Memphis . With the genre of his book as historical non fiction, many historical and society changing cultural events are explored and are essential to explaining and understanding the stance of the Assemblies of God church in their support of racial... With a reputation as a faith healer, and firmly believing that the baptism of the Holy Ghost should be physical evidence of the Holy Spirit in every believer s life, Parham, then living in Topeka, Kansas, issued a challenge to students at the Topeka school to discover the biblical evidence of the Holy Ghost baptism. Parham was himself seeking scriptural proof of this experience, and later on, in January of 1901, when asked to pray for a student so that she would experience the gift of tongues, the woman began to speak in Chinese and could speak no other language for three days. This was proof to Parham, at least, of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Others were reported as being somewhat
  • 3. Lucy Pevensie In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy (Lewis 3). In the book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, all Lucy Pevensie wants is freedom. She wants to get away from the egregious war and bombings. She wants her dad to be back from the hostile war and her mum to be safe with them. She wants to play games with her three elder siblings to end the vexatious quarreling amongst them and to excite the strict boredom of the old country house. In all of her wants, nothing stops her persistent cheerfulness and confident attitude. Lucy Pevensiediscovers the importance of the noble qualities which shape her into a valorous hero through traveling to the magical land of Narnia. Since the beginning of the tale, Lucy Pevensie shows her personality through her spunky attitude, persevering faith and valiant courage. Despite the wretched situation of the war, and the sad separation from her parents so the children could live safer in the country, Lucy s attitude remains positive the entire way through. Even when her siblings skeptically doubt her ridiculous adventure in a magical world inside a wardrobe, Lucy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Elizabeth Svoboda s article, Could You Be a Hero , explains two major versions of a hero. On one end of the spectrum you have feats of everyday heroism, like helping someone cross the street. These good deeds are relatively low risk. And on the other end, you have high stakes heroism, like rescuing someone from a burning building. Both are important. Lucy Pevensie had both of these heroic exploits. Living her normal life with her family, she dealt with each of her siblings through the perspective of a true hero, by calming quarreling and asserting cheerfulness as well as peace. Venturing into the extraordinary land of Narnia, Lucy continues the everyday heroism but additionally becomes a more epic hero by risking her life and rescuing others (Svoboda

In today s business industry, there are a number of management and external factors that each organisation has to deal with during day to day circumstances. These factors include topic areas such as technology, sustainability, leadership and management and the common environmental factors. On a global scale, every organisation will act differently which brings the number of competitive elements to rise. Within my essay I will discuss these issues in relation to Marks and Spencer, a major British multinational retailer. As a leading high street name, they specialise in the selling of clothing, home goods, and luxury food products making it a major competitor to other retailers. This involves simple marketing techniques including; visitors being greeted by eye catching images that broadcast the sites new offers, again a manager s position to overcome and deal with. • 5. Powers of Horror by Julia Kristeva, Questions and Answers To what extent are we all strangers to ourselves , even in our own countries? Answer with reference to Kristeva s book. Exile, the reality and practice of being barred from a native country, has prolifically influenced many philosophers theoretical writings. Indeed, Julia Kristeva being in exile from her native Bulgaria is a foreigner in an unascertained land. Being an outcast influence s her philosophical, political and sociological extended essay Strangers to Ourselves published in 1991. The book addresses a problem that Kristeva has experienced first hand: the struggle of being a foreigner in Western culture and the difficulties that people and nations have with treating foreigners residing in their motherland. Jealousy drives our nationalist temperaments and Kristeva explores the figure of the unconscious foreigner in all of us. Strangers to Ourselves draws on the difficulty that natives have in accepting the stranger within and if we can come to terms with this notion. The exile is often a foreigner in an unfamiliar place or a foreigner repressed within the native s unconscious, however a feeling of strangeness can also occur through an exclusion from the hegemonic rationalism of modern society (Lechte: 79). There are at least two other forms of exile that can produce the foreign ness in us: being an exile as a way to thrive intellectually and imaginatively and being alienated as a woman. Historically and in the contemporary world, natives incite prejudice onto
  • 6. Childhood Is A Complex Concept Of Childhood Childhood is a complex concept that has never been clearly defined, nor has it stayed a stagnant concept across all times and cultures. The time period in which a child exists is different depending on the time you are looking at, as are the characteristics which are attributed to children. In the time periods that were studied in this class, which spanned from the early modern period of literature up until the late twentieth century, the idea of childhoodand what represented it changed vastly. In some of our early readings, children were defined as helpless and ignorant, with very little logic or ability to rationalize or reason. Towards the ends of our readings, when we were getting into the books that were produced in the twentieth century, childhood is still portrayed as innocent, but also as playful and creative, and full of life, laughter and friendship. In the 1700s, children were seen as naГЇve, powerless, needing protection, and very impressionable. In Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll attempts to create a child which is idealistically innocent and capable of reason. In his fantasy world of Wonderland, Carroll shows an imaginative and creative child who isn t afraid of the unusual things she is presented with, but instead embraces them and the differences that they portray as she is different herself. He takes an interesting stance for the time period on portraying mental health problems as something that is able to be coped with and that should be
  • 7. Body Image In The Media The issue of distorting body image in the media and its effects on people is not a new concept to modern time. There is a long history of body image s powerful place in society because of people s impressions of each other based on body image. Research has been done on the effects and outcomes of this issue. Recently, consumers have fought with the media to try and achieve a safer way to spread information and let these media outlets be successful without having severe impacts on adolescents especially, among other age groups. The general ethical principle that the stakeholders use in this fight is similar to utilitarianism, because each stakeholder believes they are bringing the greatest good to the greatest number of people. The stakeholders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The media group that retouches images skews the normal body image of people through many of its outlets, including models in advertising and magazines, and actors in TV and movie productions. The average model portrayed in the media is approximately 5 11 and 120 pounds. By contrast, the average American woman is 5 4 and 140 pounds (Holmstrom, 2004). This statistic shows how the media manipulates consumers into believing that because they are not what the average model looks like, they are not living up to a certain standard which implies that they need to look like that to be beautiful. Another research fact that shows a similar concept is that, In the United States, 94% of female characters in television programs are thinner than the average American woman, with whom the media frequently associate happiness, desirability, and success in life (Yamamiya et al., 2005). This association of female thinness and happiness, desirability and success makes consumers believe they must achieve this unrealistic thinness to achieve more ultimate goals and fulfillment in life. The media also explicitly instruct how to attain thin bodies by dieting, exercising, and body contouring surgery, encouraging female consumers to believe that they can and should be thin (Yamamiya et al., 2005). This idealization of thinness in the media is seen so much, and is extremely harmful to women s self confidence and is often associated with body image dissatisfaction, which can be a precursor to social anxiety, depression, eating disturbances, and poor self esteem (Yamamiya et al.,
  • 8. The French And American Revolutions The French and American Revolutions were pivotal in setting up new societies. Economic, social, and political tensions leading up to the revolutions caused citizens to want change in the way their government worked and functioned within society. Those who wanted the most change within the government were called the radicals; those who wanted the least amount of change were called the conservatives (Baradat 19; 24). The amount of change in their government was a part of the political spectrum which grouped events and people into five groups according to how much change they wanted. Both of the changes resulting from the two revolutions can be classified within this political spectrum as well. While the changes in government resulting from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The British government did not have a formal constitution, but the government was run by two sections: the monarch, and the parliament. Neither had absolute control as the parliament was able to curb the power of the monarch and the parliament could not pass any bills or taxes without the agreement from the monarch. Therefore, the British government had created some checks and balances so that no one group of government would become omnipotent. An example of this can be seen in the English Bill of Rights written in 1698 which states, the raising or keeping of a standing army within time of peace, unless it be with the consent of Parliament, is against the law, (English Parliament). This shows the Parliament had some power over the monarch. Later on, this idea of checks and balances would be put into the American government. While the Americans did not create this idea themselves, they believed in its value to society. Due to tensions between the American colonists and the British, the colonists wanted to break away and form a government where their ideas were heard. The primary tension was caused by the problems in the economy. Britain was left with a lot of debt after the Seven Years War. The colonists were blamed for this because they were clashing with the Native Americans and the French who had other settlements further inland a space the American settlers wanted to occupy. Fighting the Natives and the French cost the

On several occasions, Andrew Jackson acted rebellious to United States laws and orders. In 1813, Jackson disregarded Article IX of the treaty of Ghent , which demanded the return of Creek territory acquired in the treaty of Fort Jackson 2. Andrew Jackson, a general at the time, existed in no position to dismiss treaties that the U.S. claimed as laws of the land . Fueled with the American hatred toward Native Americans, Jackson stubbornly refused to acknowledge Creek ownership of any land. Jackson s unruly attitude brought him close to making hazardous international mistakes. Believing British officers were assisting local natives, Jackson without any specific orders invaded Spanish Florida and killed every Spanish British officer at a central military fort 1. His actions angered President Monroe because Jackson created tension between the U.S. and Western Europe . Exhibiting disobedience to his superiors, Jackson s actions served as a precursor to his oppressive authority. During his presidency, Jackson s Indian policies transformed the concept of Manifest Destiny into a reality. Jackson , along with many Americans, possessed a Eurocentric view and failed to recognize Native tribes as civilized sovereign nations. In 1834, Chief

Because of his physical defects, he is determined to prove villain and destroy the peace by becoming king. He tells her that her beauty was the cause of that effect being she was the reason why he needed to murder her husband and father in law. In the process of making her believe this farfetched lie, he is eventually able to make her his wife. This scene alone shows that Richard is a good enough actor to convince a woman in mourning that she is the reason these deaths happened. Hamlet wants his actors to be realistic enough to be just like Richard was with Lady Anne. By Richard deceiving many people in the play, he shows that being a good actor doesn t necessarily make you a good person. • 13. Joseph And The Bible But Joseph himself also had two children Ephraim and Manasseh. In taking away her disgrace, God showered Rachel with His grace. The Bible does not tell us anything more about Joseph until, at the age of seventeen, we read about him tending his father s flocks with his brothers (Genesis 37:2). Joseph was the favourite of his father, Jacob, since he was the son of Jacob s old age (Genesis 37:3) and the first born son of his favourite wife. Joseph lived 110 years and there is not a single sin attributed to him. Joseph endured trials and afflictions that most of us cannot even imagine and nowhere does the Bible ever hint that his faith in God wavered. Whether he was in the pit, the palace, or the prison, He was the same man. Hardships did not harden his heart. Riches and power did not corrupt him. He was hated misunderstood, falsely accused, mistreated, and suffered unjust treatment, yet he never complained In many ways Joseph is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jacob, has just finished blessing Naphtali and then his son Joseph comes forward. Jacob pronounces a long blessing on Joseph. Let us consider Jacob s blessings on Joseph: I.

  • 16. Placebo Literature Review Literature Reviews 1 2In 1985 an experiment was conducted with 60 subjects with a randomised placebo controlled trial. These patients were suffering from anxiety and stress. Half of the patients were given a homeopathic formula marketed as L.72.2 while the control group was given Diazepam a tranquilizing medication of the benzodiazepine family that causes a calming outcome. The results indicated that L.72 was equally as positive as the Diazepam medication as both groups experienced a relief of stress or anxiety. Validity: The source is a well conducted and logical experiment which explores the effects of homeopathy. The source s overall quality is good as its answers and explores the topic it addresses. Although it is informative there was no use of citations and scientific language. This source was not peer reviewed thus affecting its validity. Reliability: This source has not been repeated more than once. The amount of subjects was also small thus effecting the reliability of this experiment. These results could have been a coincidence and repetition is therefore imperative. It was not double blinded and the scientists chose which group received which medication. They also collected the information and thus can be considered biased. The absence of blinding contributes to its unreliability. However, they agreed to do so therefore making the experiment ethical. No explanations were given for the results obtained and why the medications were equally effective. The experiment was found on the website The Homeopathic Coach and showed clear signs of a lack of peer review. This contributes to the experiment being unreliable. 2 A small study was set with a group of adults with major depression, social phobia or panic disorder. Examples Of Paradoxes In Catch 22 In Catch 22, Heller makes light of World War II by adding humor in which characters are forced to deal with illogical, paradoxical situations that make their life often times harder Kuzel 7 than it already is in the Air Force. These paradoxes are seen throughout the novel, usually accompanied by a superior officer using a rule known as Catch 22. Catch 22 is different from other laws however, as there seem to be no set limits and is often described as a vague, convenient solution for superior officers to use when their orders make no sense. Milo s whole business seemed to contradict itself, because this concept of buying and selling to himself worked and made him much wealth, even though it makes no sense to the reader. Heller is embodying the Catch 22 ideology into Milo, along with symbolizing him as corruption. Milo embodies the idea of the Catch 22 law through his business, where he buys new products and sells them to himself in a different location to change the value of the product. The importance of Milo lies in his success. He often tells people that they get a share of the profit. Everyone gets a share of the profit according to him. This allows him to get away with terrible actions, such as bomb his own base, and get away with it with the two colonels. This is also the reason many of the men continue to support him even though they know he is corrupt. Later in the book, he appeals to the colonels and pleases them to better his own situation. He talks to the colonel and uses many paradoxes and logic to convince the colonel to not make him have to fly any more missions. Heller uses Milo to show corruption throughout the book, like how he is exempt from flying more missions because he is a monetary asset to them and the other men. The only logical way to explain how Milo s business works is the theory of Catch 22. Heller wants Catch 22 to not be interpreted as a law, but rather as a theory that explains paradoxes and situations that don t make sense. He suggests this

  • 24. Wind Power And Energy Power Abstract Wind power is still the most promising renewable energy in the year of 2013. The wind turbine system (WTS) started with a few tens of kilowatt power in the 1980s. Now, multi megawatt wind turbines are widely installed even up to 6 8 MW. There is a widespread use of wind turbines in the distribution networks and more and more wind power stations, acting as power plants, are connected directly to the transmission networks. As the grid penetration and power level of the wind turbines increase steadily, the wind power starts to have significant impacts to the power grid system. Therefore, more advanced generators, power electronic systems, and control solutions have to be introduced to improve the characteristics of the wind power plant and make it more suitable to be integrated into the power grid. Meanwhile, there are also some emerging technology challenges, which need to be further clarified and investigated. The global electrical energy consumption is still rising and there is a steady demand to increase the power capacity. The production, distribution and the use of the energy should be as technological efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end user should be set up. The deregulation of energy has lowered the investment in larger power plants, which means the need for new electrical power sources may be very high in the near future. Two major technologies will play important roles to solve the future problems. One is to change the electrical

The first five stages of Erikson s theory, which he notes as crisis, are trust versus mistrust, autonomy versus shame and doubt, initiative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, and identity versus role confusion. The first four personal spaces, of Wilber s theory are the archaic, the magical, or egocentric, the mythical, and the rational. Erikson s theory states that an emotional crisis must be successfully met for normal development. Wilber s theory is similar in that he uses an example of a multiple story building. If one stage isn t completely understood, but not mastered, then that floor will end up leaning, and a building like that cannot be sustained for long before its structural integrity is compromised. Erikson s theory is based that social interactions were the most important thing to consider for healthy development of children. The first stage, starting from infancy on to 1 year of age, has the crisis of trust versus mistrust. This just means that they develop either of these skills based on how well their needs are taken care of. The next crisis starts at 1 year of age up to 3 years of age, toddler age. The Apology Dialogue is what Plato recorded during the speech Socrates gave to the court defending himself against the charges of corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods in whom the city believes these two were the main charges, but underneath that there were also other significant charges such as being considered an antidemocratic or pro Spartan, sophistry, and being lampooned by Aristophanes in the comedy clouds . • 37. Classroom Management Is Essential For Effective Teaching... Introduction Classroom management is essential to effective teaching because this is what makes a classroom flow forward in the direction of academic success and a great school year. The text states that classroom management is comprised of the necessary processes to create and maintain a positive environment that is conducive to teaching and learning (Newman, 2013). Classroom management plays an important role in the setup of a classroom. Classroom management should begin on the very first day of school. It is how efficiently a teacher can have schedules, structure, and procedures, well maintained in the classroom. When the teacher demonstrates what the expectations are on day one and continues to practice these routines and procedures, it sets the tone of the classroom from day one, and is what is expected the entire year. A teacher uses classroom management to create and maintain a learning environment. Discipline of students in a classroom has little to do with the learning environment and overall management of the classroom. The learning environment will be functional when there are positive expectations of the students. In a well managed classroom students are involved with their work as the teacher facilitates instruction (N. A., n. d.). This increases student achievement and there is little time for confusion and disruptive behavior. Harry Wong states that students know what is expected of them and are generally successful (Wong, 1998). Expectations
  • 38. Similarities Between The Scottsboro Boys And To Kill A... We know all men are not created equal in the sense some people would have us believe...some people have more opportunity because they re born with it (Lee 274). This phrase shows Atticus opinion about society and the luck some people are born with. The novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee contains some similarities with the Scottsboro boyscase in which a few black men are accused of something that they didn t do in the early 1900 s and are taken to trial in which it results into unexpected consequences. Justice has been routinely denied to African Americans throughout the past century due to having an all white jury who believe in the false accusations made by white women which has made a replacement of lynching in the court system. In both the case of Tom Robinson and the real life version of the Scottsboro boys, we see that justice is denied to African Americans because the jury consists of only white. The day of the Scottsboro trial, when the jury was discussing the final verdict, the sheriff had a talk with the doctor who examined the girls and the jury didn t do much investigation. Klarman states, It later came out that Sheriff Wann had warned Norris that he would be killed if he did not admit that the girls had been raped (Klarman 160). This quote demonstrates that the trial wasn t the best since it later came out that the doctor lied which meant that the jury didn t do much to investigate. This shows that the jury didn t want the boys to win the trial
  • 39. Essay about The Imporance of Polymers Today A polymer is a large molecule consisting of many smaller subunits known as monomers. There are different types of polymers and many uses for all of them. Even though people may not realize it polymers play an essential role in our everyday life. For polymers range from plastics, PVC, and Styrofoam to key structures in the human body like DNA and proteins which are key components to the human body that makes it possible for each of us to live and be unique. So with out polymers in our body we would be dead, and with out them in our society it would be a drastically changed for the worse to say the least Polymers are also commonly referred to as plastics so now you can put in to perspective how much we use polymers. You can also realize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ON the other hand if it is properly recycled we are able to reuse the same plastic over and over again for long periods of time while at the same time keeping a low production cost This is why plastic is cheap even though it contains oil a very high priced item, for as long as people do their best to not waste plastic and recycle it there really is not a need to waste our precious oil and manufacture more of it. Polymers effect every ones life almost every day allowing us to make many valuable items that can help make our lives easier including plastic, PVC, and shellac there are also natural polymers that we benefit from such as rubber and amber. Polymers are truly a great and very beneficial item to everyone for they are tough, durable, and cheap but they are also recyclable which can be very beneficial to our environment and societal needs. The only negative effect is when it is not properly disposed but this is really the users fault not the actual item its self Though polymers are a very beneficial thing now, but In the future I believe that at the very best that they will only hold the same value to society. I say this because polymers are not a very complicated item and it would be difficult to better this technology in a drastic way. The only further advancements I see are people discovering ways to make polymers stronger, more durable and better suited for extreme and

  • 42. Tabriz and Carpet 1. (a) Riya Didwania Elizabeth Burge s poem Ispahan Carpet is an extended metaphor which aims to compare the beauty of the traditional Persian carpet (known as the Ispahan carpet) to the appalling conditions in which the carpet makers are forced to dwell. The central theme of the poem is to emphasize on the exploitation of children which is prevalent in various parts of the world. This leads to the end of all the hope and optimism that ever prevailed in the lives of the children to have a future; a future which is bright and helps them flee away from all the misery and desolation of carpetweaving. It intends to create awareness about child labour which remains unnoticed and ignored through out the world. The poem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker uses an inquiring tone to ask who can unravel the world s weaving? Feelings of dissatisfaction as well as curiosity are conveyed as the speaker wonders why terrible traditions like this are being carried forward to future generations. The speaker expresses the worthlessness of the rugs which is a beauty, undoubtedly, but is not as essential as the childhood of the girls which is being exclusively sacrificed to create it. As the tourist places her plump ( swollen ) hand on the bent and fragile ( greenstick ) shoulder of the girl, she feels sympathetic towards her. The large eyes of the girl signify her loneliness and solitude and bring about a feeling of compassion in the reader. Speaking darkness has been juxtaposed in this stanza. The speaker along with an emotion of empathy also has a deep sense of admiration and respect for the girls.

  • 44. Cultural Destruction Essay examples Cultural Destruction American pop culture can readily been seen in many aspects of American life. Pop was originally coined to mean popular. While this literal meaning still holds true, pop culture has spun into a new generation. While pop still describes what is popular, the term has taken on a negative connotation. Today, the term is used to describe bands such as the Backstreet Boys and N Sync. Britney Spears has also been coined as a pop singer. The term pop is often seen as a downfall and indicates temporary fame. Many pop artists are thought to be just that: pop artists. The American music industry forces music into popularity based on trivial, vain criteria instead of true talent. Music used to convey true emotions and ideas but the music industry has destroyed these truths in the music. Music used to have meaning and expression. The lyrics of pop songs simply convey the empty emotion. Bottum writes, The problem begins with the general failure of lyrics, the incapacity of sung words to introduce and maintain in music the ideas the music itself lacks (Bottum). The producers are more concerned with how the words flow with the music instead of the actual content of the lyrics. The music industry creates a certain sound from the music but the content is not really important. American pop culture is the intended audience of this music and so the music industry feeds them the empty songs with a pretty face. If a person has ever had a song stuck in their head, odds are that they do not really know what the words mean. They merely regurgitate the hottest chorus from the newest pop song without really knowing the meanings of the words. We have destroyed the truth in our music by allowing ourselves to succumb to the music industry s ideas of pop culture and pop music itself. The music industry produces these monstrosities that we call pop artists and then forces the American people to like
