George s Moral Dilemmas
The novela Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck features two laboring men, George and Lennie,
working in California and trying to survive the Great Depression. Lennie is mentally challenged and
as a result, does not understand his own strength. This continually gets him and George in trouble and
costs them their jobs. While working in Soledad, Lennie accidentally kills a Curley s wife, and a
group of farmhands then go on a search for Lennie, with the intention of beating him and serving
justice. George fears what they might do Lennie, and so he shoots Lennie in the neck, killing him
instantly. George s killing of Lennie is a moral dilemma as it exists in the gray area of permissible
euthanasia. George was ultimately correct and justified in the ... Show more content on

Over the course of the novela Lennie has proven to be an increasing danger to those around him. In
the past, Lennie had unwarily killed several mice with his strength. He also accidentally killed his
puppy and Curley s wife. However, after each death, Lennie showed immediate remorse and extreme
distress. He never intended for the death of any individual but due to his mental handicap and
enormous strength, it seems to be a common occurrence. If Lennie was not prematurely killed by
George the future confrontation with Curley and the other farm hands would not have ended without
blood due to Lennie s incredible strength. Thus Lennie s death not only secures the safety of himself
but other individuals. Lennie is a danger to those around him, although this is not a justifiable reason
for euthanasia by itself, under the circumstances, it only reinforces George s decision as morally

The Great Depression And The Dust Bowl
The New Deal
In the year following the Roaring 20s, the United States had a major economic crisis along with the
Dust Bowl that affected many of the american people, but if Franklin D. Roosevelt had not saved the
economy with the New Deal, the economy would have never truly recovered.
The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl
The Great Depression was the longest economic recession in the history of the United States. The
recession started in the summer of 1929 when stock prices began to rise and also when there was a
maldistribution of wealth. Consumers were receiving too little money to spend to keep up with the
pace of the growing markets. There were also many other issues that also contributed to the Great
Depression, there was a lack of diversification because many people over invested in automobiles and
construction.
On the 29th of October the stock market crashed which became to be known as Black Tuesday . On
this day 16 million shares were traded after a wave of panic swept Wall Street. All of the investors that
had bought stocks with borrowed money were wiped out completely. After this catastrophic day there
was a massive downturn in factories and business. Many employers started firing off their employees,
those that were lucky enough to stick with their jobs were getting really low wages. Many americans
started buying stuff on credit, they later fell into debt. This Depression caused unemployment to rise to
25% by 1933. The Great Depression was not the only thing

Pinto Bean Culture
Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a culture .
(Kurlansky, 2002) This quote perfectly sums up the importance of food when it comes to culture. I
have had the privilege of being born into a Hispanic background. The Hispanic culture is rich with
traditions, language, music, literature, but most importantly, cuisine. Hispanic cuisine is full of flavor
and consists of many textures such as: stringy, gooey, crunchy, and chewy. When eating a Hispanic
meal, there is one food that you are very likely to encounter. This food is the pinto bean. The pinto
bean is a very well known dish but where exactly was it originated, what is the cultural and economic
significance, what is the nutritional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a variety amount of cooking techniques used when it comes to pinto beans. Dried pinto beans
are usually available in prepackaged containers or bins. There are also canned pinto beans available
that you can find in many markets. (whfoods, 2015) Pinto beans have such a savory flavor that they
can go well with a variety of different foods. Some common ways pinto beans are cooked are in a
pressure cooker, a crock pot, or a microwave. There are many ways to go about cooking pinto beans
but the most common way consists of sorting the beans to ensure they are free of small rocks and
clumps of dirt, washing the beans, and finally cooking the beans in whichever method you choose
best. In many cultures pinto beans were originally eaten as a mash usually accompanied with a piece
of bread. (whfoods, 2015) Pinto beans can be made as a stew, a mash, or are boiled. In many cultures
pinto beans are usually served as a side dish to the main course. For example, in the American
southwest pinto beans are usually served as a side dish with the popular dish of Enchiladas. Pinto
beans also serve as the main component of many dishes. These dishes include burritos, which is a
flour tortilla usually filled with pinto beans and a variety of different ingredients. Tostadas, which is a
hard taco shell layered with refried pinto beans with usually cheeses and garnish sprinkled on top. And
Frito pies which is a dish consisting of Frito chips, pinto beans, New Mexican red chili, and cheese.
Pinto beans are also sometimes pureed and can be used in dips, to thicken soups and sauces, and as a
soup base. Another common dish that you are very likely to find served with pinto beans is rice. Pinto
beans and rice served with cornbread is a very simple but delicious meal. Pinto beans can be found
incorporated in a variety of different cuisines such as Indian, European, Asian, and Mexican cuisines.

outcome measured the proportion of patients that had a repeat of cellulitis during the drug phase and
follow up phase (Thomas et al., 2013).
The results of this experiment showed some interesting information. In the end 136 patients were put
into the penicillin group and 138 patients were put into the placebo group. From these patients 15
(5%) took back consent or couldn t be found, 11 died (4%) and 206 (75%) were put into a secondary

respectively twice daily (Berende et al., 2016). And the other patients got placebos twice daily
(Berende et al., 2016). Everyone was blindly assigned.
At the end of the study 205 patients (73.2%) reported a minimum of one adverse effect, like diarrhea

To measure results the researchers used a 36 question questionnaire at the beginning at the end of the

How Did Ancient Greece Influence Modern Society
The Influence of Greece on Modern Society
Greece and Rome have both heavily contributed to modern society, some of their contributions being
architecture, knowledge, and tendencies in government. Without these two ancient civilizations, we
might not be as technologically advanced as we are today. Although ancient Romans invented so
many important things like aqueducts and roads, the ancient Greeks were more prominent in
influencing modern culture.
Some may argue that Rome has much more influence on modern societies, but the interesting thing
about Rome is that it was heavily influenced by Greece. Ancient Greece was at its peak with art and
religion around 800 B.C. to 500 B.C., and ancient Rome came around during early 700 B.C. Ancient
Rome adapted many of the same ideals that ancient Greece had, like their polytheistic religion and
their type of government. Essentially, ancient Greece was the stepping stone that began all of these
ancient characteristics and influenced ancient Rome.
In almost every modern society, art is treasured and appreciated and held up to certain standards. The
ancient Greeks were big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before direct democracy in Athens, Greek city states were somewhat wild and unpredictable in terms
of leadership. Popular during these times were monarchies and oligarchies, and after many years the
Greeks decided to contribute one of the greatest things to modern society, democracy. Now, this
democracy was nowhere near the same as modern societies have adapted today, but the fundamental
building blocks for today s government were highlighted in Athens direct democracy. Athens direct
democracy consisted of every male Athenian having the rights to vote and participate in politics and
elect new leaders (Cartwright). This heavily influenced modern day democracy, where citizens have
equal rights in voting, including

Personal Choices In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Imagine you go to a party and you meet your unexpected lover. You to fall in love and throughout
your journey the impulsive decisions you to make, makes your life complicated. Not only that but
imagine the bad decisions you two make resulted into both of you dying. In this drama/play Romeo
and Juliet fall in love. Of Course it wasn t one was a capulet and the other was a montague. To sum
up, enemy and enemy. Romeo and Juliet both make choices that complicates their relationship and
causing so much conflict in their life whereas they both kill themself in the end. In this drama,
personal choices have a greater impact on the characters than fate. Juliet wasn t clearly thinking when
she made the personal choice by wanting to kill herself. What if this mixture do not work at all? Juliet
then lies down the dagger. What if it be a poison which the friar subtly hath ministered to have me
dead (pg.258) Tybalt, stay! Romeo, I come! This do I drink to thee. (pg.259} She drinks and falls upon
her bed within the curtains. Juliet s love grew so strong for romeo she couldn t live without him. Re
thinking about this choice would ve made it so much easier. Love can make anyone do bizarre things.

My Eating Habits
My eating habits! When I bring lunch to school, all of the people in the Cohort (even the professors!)
are shocked! It is a rare sight to see me with lunch. Most of the time, it is because I m never very
hungry until around 4. And I ll admit it is just not healthy. I rarely ever eat breakfast either! Not only
do I not eat three meals, but I m also not eating like I should. I ll be honest, I have been living off
Pizza Rolls. Now, I am not saying I am going to go on a crazy diet or starting eating broccoli, but I
need to start eating more and eating less Pizza Rolls.
Drink more water! I will be completely honest right now, over the course of the entire semester I
probably only finished 3 bottles of water total. I ve never been much of a water drinker, but I can t
continue this bad habit this semester. I decided that I have to at least drink the recommended amount
of water per day. To help me out, I am a using a water bottle that has lines and times! It will help me
manage my new habit and stay on top of how much water I am drinking. You can t pour from an
empty glass!
My sleeping habits! If you don t sleep enough, you can t be your best self! How did this go wrong last
semester? Well, last semester I was waking up at 6 am and not going to bed until 12 1am! Why? I was
doing this because a huge portion of my day surrounded school and homework and then when it was
time for bed, I would try to have some me time and then end up staying up late. I decided that this
semester, I will

Criminal Profiling In Criminal Justice
CRIMINAL PROFILING: BRINGING THE GUILTY TO JUSTICE OR NOT?
Television crime shows like NCIS or CSI and movies like Sherlock Holmes often display the
investigation tool known as criminal profiling. By examining hidden clues at crime scenes the heroes
of the show always manage to successfully track down the guilty suspect and bring them to justice. In
real life, however, things are not that simple. If one is a fan of these shows or shows similar in content,
one may be under the influence that criminal profiling is a relatively new tool in criminal
investigation. Yet, that is not the case. The use of criminal profiling in crime investigations has been
around for well over 100 years (Canter). However, even though this tool has been used ... Show more

Many courts do not allow criminal profiles to be entered as evidence. Canada, the United Kingdom,
and Australia are just a few countries in which criminal profiles have been denied by the court system
(Woskett, Coyle, and Lincoln). As stated early, criminal profiling is not considered to be a scientific
process. This is most likely the main reason that criminal profiles are inadmissible in a courtroom.
Judges and juries are interested in the facts of the crime and since the hypothesis of a criminal profiler
cannot be tested and proven, you cannot label a profile as valid and

Essay about Billy Liar
Billy Liar
The play Billy Liar was first produced in London on 13th September 1960. Originally a novel, it was
adapted by Willis Hall and Keith Waterhouse for performance.
Billy the main character in the performance lives in a lower middle class family and is subconsciously
trapped by their social class. Billy is an imaginative youth who indulges in daydreams and escapism,
but cannot fulfil his fantasies due to the restriction of his social culture.
In modern society Billy would have been more likely to fulfil his dreams as generally family and
social restrictions have changed since the 1960s and movement away from the family unit is more
accepted.
In the play Billy has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To close the argument Billy offers Florence a cup of tea. Up to this part in the film the family argued
without listening to each other s point of view. Billy continues to say Sitting in a coffee bar. Espresso.
This shows that Billy s escapism leads him into the future but Florence also daydreams about the past.
In some ways the playwright bridges the differences by making these characters dreamers. The quote
shows that Billy knows how he wants people to see him and the way he lives. Florence also values the
importance of how other people view him when she says He shouldn t go to the door dressed like that.
Billy is also restricted by his conflicting values with his parents. His mother for example values peace
when she says I m not saying anything. I m keeping out of it. This could also indicate bluntness with
her son and show that she does not listen to what he has to say. This is another barrier that faces Billy.
It is obvious that Billy lacks respect for his mother possibly because of her bluntness with him. Billy
also sees his mother as a person who is easily manipulated. From the stage directions in the script we
know that Alice is always busy which she sees as an attribute, this contrasts with Billy s lazy attitude
because he stays in bed late. Alice has a narrow minded opinion of what Billy should do and states her
opinion. Billy considers her

Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael
Ishmael: Paradigms of Yesterday
Come with me if you want to live, was all that Arnold Schwarzenegger said in his movie Terminator
2: Judgement Day, and after reading Daniel Quinn s masterpiece Ishmael, one might well receive the
impression Quinn echoes such sentiments. Few books have as much relevancy in this technological,
ever changing world as Ishmael.
In the beginning, according to Ishmael, God created Man to live peacefully on Earth, sustained by the
fruitful bounties of Earth and subject to God s control. That is, until Man ate of the Tree of Good and
Evil in the Garden Of Eden, and conveniently forgot all the rules God had so graciously placed in

Throughout it all, Ishmael leads his pupil through his trials with wit and wisdom, even while leading
him towards solutions for world hunger and environmental destruction. Makes one wonder how it is
that Quinn, as he claims, arrived at all of the conclusions in the book by simply going to the library
and doing a little research. Part parable, part myth, and totally compelling, Ishmael leaves one hungry
and wondering, waiting for the next chapter of humanity s tale to play out. As any good book does,
Ishmael leaves readers with more questions than answers, and demands that the reader figure out the
solution for himself.
As one critic put it, good books generate a healthy confusion, a curious combination of pleasure and
disquietude. Ishmael is no different. Much of the confusion present in this work stems from the
assertion by Daniel Quinn that most of the lessons taught by the monotheistic religions of the world
have gaping holes in them. They provide a shaky framework for a self sustaining culture, and soon
man will pay for his ignorance by the destruction of the environment. Quinn goes on to say that most

My Family Trip
A family vacation that is important to me was the trip to Washington D.C. I took in 2006. I went on
this vacation with my family friend and my two nephews. We went to Washington D.C. because my
nephews had a strong interest in learning the United States history along with myself. We decided to
go to Washington D.C. because it has a rich history in the United States and was one of the best places
to learn about our country and its presidents. I chose to take my nephews with me to Washington
because it was a great bonding experience with them and really allowed family bonding time that got
them away from home. I chose to go with my family friend because he was also interested in history
at the time. During our vacation, we went to many places that made a huge impact in our lives and
will always make a huge impact in our lives. The first place we went to after the hotel, of course, was
Abraham Lincoln s monument. The first impression we had of the monument was that it was huge!
While we were there Lincoln s monument was not very crowded, which we were thankful for. At the
monument we took pictures with Lincoln and stood and looked back at what Lincoln had done in his
lifetime. It was at his monument that we also realized how much Lincoln deserved the biggest
monument money could buy. This was important to me because I have always wanted to learn more
about Lincoln and what he had done in his presidency. Looking around the monument we could see

romantic musical directed by Tom Hooper. As a film, Les Misérables is based on a musical by Claude
Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil that goes by the same name (Les Misérables) and is also based
upon Victor Hugo s French novel Les Misérables, 1862 (Shoard n.p). This analysis looks at various
elements of the movie ranging from the themes used in the film, its genre, artistic movement, the
director s style and the film s representation on its country s culture.

Puritan Ethic Essay
The Puritan Ethic, is it What God Wanted?
The Puritans were a people that moved to North America in order to escape religious persecution in
the mid 17th century. They had very strict rules that they were required to live by if they wanted to
make it to Heaven. Because of this, many stories have been written about them, including 1952 s
Crucible by Arthur Miller. This story is about the witch trials that were held in Salem, Massachusetts.
This story is particularly interesting because it is based on true events, and for this reason, there are
many parts to analyze. As it turns out, there is a theory that relates almost directly with their actions,
Structuralism. Applying the Structuralism Theory to the Crucible helps readers understand the reason
why the Puritans are so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because their system is built on a foundation of faith and trust, if this is left in the dust, they have
nothing to hold the rest up. This is where the Structuralism theory gets even stronger. Humans need a
higher power, they need something bigger than them to explain all the bad things that happen. Because
their need is so powerful, they lose their common sense. The result of this is very easy to see and is the
entire plot of the story. The officials refuse to believe the someone could be lying to them to cause
trouble and to save themselves, which results in lots of death, pain, and suffering.
In closing, the Structuralist Theory is extremely useful in determining the reasons for the actions of
the church officials in the Crucible. After applying it, the causes of their actions become much more
clear and the harshness can be excused to an extent. It gives the analyzer a line of sight into the mind
of the leader and that if this was not dealt with, they knew that both their beliefs and those of the
people who they lead, would all be

Night Lights By Peter Berg And Executively Produced By...
I find it essential to my being to embody the predictable role of an average college student and watch
various shows on Netflix during every free second of my day. Most shows available on Netflix are not
necessarily what is currently available on cable, but that doesn t mean the shows aren t worthy of
being watched on a continuous cycle for hours upon hours, until suddenly realizing that it s 12 am and
the paper due in two hours has yet to be submitted. One of the few shows I would consider worthy of
such procrastination is viewable via Netflix, and is called Friday Night Lights. Friday Night Lights
was developed by Peter Berg and executively produced by Brian Grazer, David Nevins, Sarah Aubrey,
and Jason Katims. The show ended after only five solid seasons in 2010, but continues to leave
everyone who watches hooked, and relating to the various tribulations within the plot line, including
football fanatics, academics, and housewives alike; all within a matter of episodes.
This American drama television series focuses on a small high school in a fictional town located in
rural Texas, called Dillon. This small town eats, sleeps, and breathes Dillon high school football. The
community in this town is tight knit and the show focuses on the football team: The Dillon Panthers, it
also zones in on the highly respected Coach: Eric Taylor. In each episode the only characters you re
guaranteed to see are Coach Taylor, along with his wife, Tami, and his daughters Grace and Julie. The

Overcoming Fears In William Sleater s The Elevator
Everyone has fears, some can get over them and some cannot. When I was small I was afraid of
heights, but my uncle helped me get over that phobia. Martin also has fears but has not gotten over
them. William Sleater the author of The Elevator made Martin to where he could not overcome his
fears. William Sleater shows us Martins lack of ability to get over his fears by building suspense
through Martins thoughts and actions, which are all efforts to avoid those fears, because Martin is
claustrophobic of the elevator, paranoid by the fat lady, and intimidated by his dad. One of Martins
phobias is the elevator. He cannot stand the elevator so he tries the stairs and he does not like those
either. Of course he was always uncomfortable in elevators, afraid that they would fall, but there was
something especially unpleasant about this one (sentence 4). He felt so uncomfortable even if there
was another person in there with him.He also tried the stairs, but he was afraid of them as much as he
was afraid of the elevator. He remained tense in the trembling little box, his eyes fixed on the numbers
over the door that blinked on and off so haltingly, as if at any moment they might simply give up
(sentence 27). Martin did not like the atmosphere of the elevator, and he still has not gotten used to it.

and that is what she was doing. It wasn t possible. It was like a nightmare, but there she was massively

Target Leggings
Everyone wears black leggings these days whether they should or they shouldn t. The first leggings
became popular in the 1960 s worn by women (used as leg warmers or tights) and later evolved to
become common streetwear starting in 2010. Later they became part of everyday casual and athletic
wear. Since then, multiple brands and companies have adopted this trend and modified it to multiple
colors and styles. The most popular of these is black leggings. The quality and required maintenance

At the beginning of the film Forrest Gump, society views disability as the medical model of disability.
When Forrest receives leg braces for his extremely crooked spine, it is then depicted that he is below
normal . Forrests new braces make him walk different which caused people in the neighborhood to
stare at him and make stereotypical comments. Although Forrest only carries an IQ of 75, Mrs. Gump
never fails to supports him throughout his life. Mrs. Gump advocates for Forrest s schooling because
she believes he deserves the finest education. When speaking to the school s principal, it instantly

Apple vs Samsung
Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits between
Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics regarding the design of smartphones and tablet computers;
between them, the companies made more than half of smartphones sold worldwide as of July 2012.[1]
In the spring of 2011, Apple began litigating against Samsung in patent infringement suits, while
Apple and Motorola Mobility were already engaged in a patent war on several fronts.[2] Apple s
multinational litigation over technology patents became known as part of the mobile device patent

Samsung has also sued Apple, claiming the iPhone and iPad infringe on Samsung patents.
On Friday, August 31, 2012, The Tokyo District Court ruled that Samsung s Galaxy smartphones and
tablets did not violate an Apple patent on technology that synchronizes music and videos between
devices and servers.[21] The three judge panel in Japan also awarded legal costs to be reimbursed to
Samsung. Presiding Judge Tamotsu Shoji said: The defendant s products do not seem like they used
the same technology as the plaintiff s products so we turn down the complaints made by [Apple]. An
unnamed spokesperson for Samsung said: [We will] continue to offer highly innovative products to
consumers, and continue our contributions toward the mobile industry s development. [22]
Ronald A. Cass, a legal consultant and former vice chairman of the International Trade Commission,
commented: I wouldn t expect there to be a lot of judgments like this one. Quote regards to the verdict
from the American courts not the Japanese courts in reference to how patent disputes are heard by
juries.[21]

How Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Is An Effective...
Microvascular reconstructive flap surgery is an effective way for the medical team to improve the
appearance or functionality of a surgical or existing tissue defect. Microvascular free tissue transfers,
or free flaps, are monitored for arterial and venous insufficiency for several days during the post
operative period. The gold standard for flap monitoring includes the clinical inspection of color,
capillary refill, temperature, and turgor of the transplanted tissue involved. Due to limited alternative
reconstructive options available to patients, accurate and timely flap assessments are critical to the
viability of the flap. Unfortunately post operative complications are sometimes unavoidable, however
monitoring by a trained clinician is associated with early flap salvage rates that in turn improve patient
care outcomes (Salgado, Chim, Shoenoff, Mardini, 2010).
This performance improvement proposal explores the efficiency and accuracy of using telemedicine as
an adjunct method of free flap monitoring comparted to traditional methods. This proposal will
discuss the relevance of using digital photographs and internet technology as a means to improve
response times between the nurse and the primary plastic surgeon that increase salvage rates of
ischemic flaps. Conclusive findings from two studies involving 200 free flaps indicate that digital
photographs and smart phone communication resulted timely intervention by the plastic that
contributed to the success of flap

Application Room For Breast Imaging
When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department
were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If
a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the
rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the
typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old
and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the
recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the
folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end
of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging
orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives
for breast imaging, the relevant medical history is reviewed and updated in the Magview system.
Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution
computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the
patient history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately
added to the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of

Hawaii’s Renewable Energy Future Essay example
By 2020, Hawaii is aiming to generate 20 percent of its energy from non fossil fuels (Brown et al.
2008, 11). According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Arent et al. 2009, 1 2), petroleum
accounts for 90% of Hawaii s energy consumption and 75% of their electricity. Since Hawaii has no
pipelines or oil fields, they are forced to import petroleum to accommodate their energy needs (Arent
et al. 2009, 1). Hawaii is disconnected from the rest of the United States, which means that Hawaii has
to take care of its own energy needs (Croucher 2010, 79).How can alternative energy sources reduce
the need to import of petroleum?

Hawaii has the bioavailability to support biofuels as a renewable resource.
In addition to fuel crops, Hawaii also has abundant resources for biomass heating. During their
research Turn et al. (2002, 4) found that the biomass resources for Hawaii include: swine, dairy, and
poultry manure, sugarcane bagasse and trash, pineapple processing waste, macadamia nut shells,
municipal solid wastes, food waste from commercial food preparation facilities, sewage sludge, and
fat, oil and grease wastes from food preparation activities. One of the main advantages is that biomass
energy can use municipal solid waste. Hawaii also produces about 10 pounds of trash per person
coming to about 1.8 million tons of trash per year (Yap 2008). Hawaii has a power plant that can use
over 2,000 tons of garbage a day to generate electricity (Covanta Energy 2011). Hawaii has decided to
start exporting its garbage to give it enough time to expand the power plant s capacity (Yap 2008).
Smaller scale biomass fueled power generation can help get rid of agricultural and municipal refuse,
while alleviating the strain on the electricity grid and providing a cheap locally based source of
electricity (Turn, Keffer, and Staackmann 2002, 17). If Hawaii develops biomass as a renewable
resource, it can reduce the need to import petroleum and export garbage.
Biomass is not the only renewable alternative option for Hawaii, ethanol can also be produced in
Hawaii. According Keffer et al.(2009, 253), using

Fair Negotiations In Collective Bargaining
I believe if fair representation was negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement, it would be fair
for the court to rules that the union has a duty to present these former employees. The sixteen
employees were still members of the union; the union still had an obligation to represent them on this
issue. Even though the employees were laid off, the union had a responsibility to fairly represent those
employees because they were still paying their dues. One of the benefits that the union negotiated with
the employer and employee was that if the company experience laid off the employees will be offered
future employment opportunities if job opens again. The company laid off hundred employees in 1981
and in 1992 the company started to performance

High School Should Not Be Legal
What is the most common reason why high school would go to college? My old friend Sean Kisch is
going to graduate with a major in music. His eldest sister will be done with her degree in modern
dance this semester. Looking at myself, I am not that far along. I attempted to navigate around college
because it was seen as too expensive. The mountain of debt for going to a private Christian college is
to grate to pay off. Most people are not made out of money. The money may not be the case because
an alternative does exist, it just is not as glorious. A person can obtain an associate s degree at a
community college for considerably less. Which is the choice I have made. I remember watching part
of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated that most high school teens
have the expectation of making mountains of cash. Most expected after college, they would make
around one hundred thousand dollars or more. That figure is much lower, an entry level position with
a college degree is between thirty and thirty five thousand. If you survive the odds of finishing school,
there is still the mammoth task of finding a job. The majority of student who graduate do not have any
not enough experience to enter most jobs. My friend Sean is going to Seedarville Univercity in Ohio,
he will have around forty to eighty thousand dollars of debt unless his parents are paying for it. My
own parent told me they would not pay for my school, because my parent not not make

The Steam Engine and Electricity Powered the Industrial...
The Steam Engine and Electricity Powered the Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was an extremely important historical process in which the societies and
cultures in the West, and then throughout the world, transformed under the influence of technological
and scientific progress. The Western world, as industrialized as it is today, is the final result. Two
major inventions, the steam engine and electricity, were both crucial parts of the technological
progress that turned the wheels of the Industrial Revolution.
According to World History From 1500 by J. Michael Allen and James B. Allen, the Industrial
Revolution could not have happened without a new, reliable source of power (144). The steam engine

In 1765 a brilliant Scottish inventor James Watt made a major improvement to the Newcomen s
engine; the resulting new engine required 75 percent less fuel. According to the History Channel
presentation, Money and Power, the new invention got immediate attention of a Scottish businessman
Roebuck, who bought two thirds of the patent. Later, unfortunately, the partnership fell apart, and Watt
found a new partner in 1774, Matthew Boulton. Together they built a new water pump engine in five
months, and by 1776 a few of the pumps were already in service. The new engine was far more
affordable and efficient than Newcomen s engine and greatly improved the production in the areas it
was used. But more tasks were awaiting the steam engine; new machines in various branches of
industry needed power. As Egon Larsen writes in A History of Invention, Boulton badgered Watt to
think of ways and means to convert the reciprocating movement of the engine into a rotary one for use
in factories and, later perhaps, for vehicles and ships (37). Watt produced at least five different
solutions. So, in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, Watt s engines were running all over Britain
and abroad serving as pumps, blasting furnaces, and driving machinery in factories. As a result of
these applications, In 1800 Great Britain was producing more coal and iron than the rest of the world
combined: 12 million tons of coal

Authentic And Inauthentic Characters In No Exit By Sartre
In No Exit , a great play by Sartre, there existed a mixture of both authentic and inauthentic characters.
The play begins by Garcin entering an exceptionally secretive room joined by the room valet. Minutes
after the fact, the room valet goes with Inez and after that Estelle into the same room. They have all
been conveyed to the hereafter room for their damnation. They begin examining what happened to
bring every one here or at the end of the day how did each of them kick the bucket. Every takes swing
to talk their contemplations; however the returns are not completely clear at first. Estelle declines to
feel that she is broken and believes that she could have been conveyed here by slip up and tries to

Estelle is by all accounts the most character in the play that lives an inauthentic existence. She tries to
misdirect herself by denying the way that she has committed. She suffocated her own youngster in a
river, in the wake of having an unsanctioned romance There was a balcony overlooking the lake. I
brought a stone... (Sartre, No Exit, 29). The outright opportunity that Sartre talks about, is precisely
the same that Estelle needs to surrender. She d rather exist according to others or have others
characterize her presence. In connection to Hegel, he is the philosopher who believes that individuals
either define themselves contrary to others or they look to others to mirror the picture of themselves.
(Pandya, lecture notes). This is the most obvious in Estelle s character. She utilizes Inez as her mirror;
actually, to characterize herself in light of the fact that she feels she doesn t exist when she can t
discover something to advise her you exist. When I can t see myself I start to think about whether I
truly and genuinely exist. (Sartre, No Exit, 19). Estelle here characterizes herself by taking a gander at
Inez to mirror her picture of her. This shows she is autonomously

Institutional Racism In Schools
School may seem like a safe and comforting place for children of all ethnicities, but this is not the
case. America s education system has been plagued with discrimination and prejudice in the form of a
phenomenon called institutional racism. Institutional racism is a pattern of social institutions such as
governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts of law giving negative treatment to a group of
people based on race ( Institutional Racism Lesson ). This issue is important because it normalizes
racism and introduces children of color to discrimination at a very young age. If we put an end to
racism in schools, it could be a big leap forward in ending it all together. Institutional racism has a
lasting impact on the lives of minority students by lowering their academic performance, limiting
future opportunities, and affecting mental and physical health. ( Institutional Racism in School
System. )
Some argue that institutional racism does not exist today, or never existed at all. These people say that
students of color have trouble in school because they do not care and do not try hard enough, not
because of institutional racism (Pearlstein). They claim that people of color are being dramatic and
looking for something to blame for their problems. Then there are those who admit to the existence of
institutional racism but do not think it matters. Those individuals argue that claiming racism exists in
schools is useless and will not do anything to stop

An Analysis Of Madeleine L Engle s A Wrinkle In Time
In the given passage from A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L Engle the main character, Meg, gives a
tone of misery as she discusses the story of her father s disappearance with Calvin. Meg first shows
this tone when the passage says, Nothing happened, Meg said. That s the trouble. Well, what about
your father s letters? They just stopped coming. You haven t heard anything at all? No, Meg said.
Nothing. Her voice was heavy with misery. In the last sentence it says that Meg s voice is heavy with
misery, therefore, showing that she has been miserable since her father left, this also sets a tone of
misery for the reader. Meg next sets a tone of misery when in the text it says, Again Meg leaped up,
and again Calvin pulled her down. No!

The Power Structured Relationships Within A Patriarchal...
In her text, Millet discusses the power structured relationships within a patriarchal society. She defines
the concept of power as a series of oppressive circumstances between power structured relationships.
In this relationship there is a dominant group and subordinate group. Millet states that the male shall
dominate female, elder male shall dominate younger (Millet 25). Women are oppressed in a
patriarchal society, giving men the power to dominate. The theory of patriarchy is derived from the
creation of social norms based on biological differences between males and females (Millet, 27).
Judith Butler would refer to these norms as the ways in which society believes each gender should
perform. Women are socialized to be loving, affectionate and feminine, while men are more prone to
dominant behavior. This has created cultural expectations that encourage the notion that women are
inferior to men (Millet 31). During child development, family and society have traditionally
encouraged patriarchal structures by reinforcing certain behavior such as aggression in male or
passivity in female. As a result, children develop a core gender identity based on their upbringing.
Children then grow within a culture of sexual hierarchy while maintaining the roles they have been
classified to. As mentioned, Judith Butler would argue that this phenomenon is called gender
performativity. Butler s theory of gender performativity describes the instability of gender and how it
is created

  • 2. George s Moral Dilemmas The novela Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck features two laboring men, George and Lennie, working in California and trying to survive the Great Depression. Lennie is mentally challenged and as a result, does not understand his own strength. This continually gets him and George in trouble and costs them their jobs. While working in Soledad, Lennie accidentally kills a Curley s wife, and a group of farmhands then go on a search for Lennie, with the intention of beating him and serving justice. George fears what they might do Lennie, and so he shoots Lennie in the neck, killing him instantly. George s killing of Lennie is a moral dilemma as it exists in the gray area of permissible euthanasia. George was ultimately correct and justified in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the course of the novela Lennie has proven to be an increasing danger to those around him. In the past, Lennie had unwarily killed several mice with his strength. He also accidentally killed his puppy and Curley s wife. However, after each death, Lennie showed immediate remorse and extreme distress. He never intended for the death of any individual but due to his mental handicap and enormous strength, it seems to be a common occurrence. If Lennie was not prematurely killed by George the future confrontation with Curley and the other farm hands would not have ended without blood due to Lennie s incredible strength. Lennie is a danger to those around him, although this is not a justifiable reason for euthanasia by itself, under the circumstances, it only reinforces George s decision as morally ... The Great Depression And The Dust Bowl The New Deal In the year following the Roaring 20s, the United States had a major economic crisis along with the Dust Bowl that affected many of the american people, but if Franklin D. Roosevelt had not saved the economy with the New Deal, the economy would have never truly recovered. The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl The Great Depression was the longest economic recession in the history of the United States. The recession started in the summer of 1929 when stock prices began to rise and also when there was a maldistribution of wealth. Consumers were receiving too little money to spend to keep up with the pace of the growing markets. There were also many other issues that also contributed to the Great Depression, there was a lack of diversification because many people over invested in automobiles and construction. On the 29th of October the stock market crashed which became to be known as Black Tuesday . On this day 16 million shares were traded after a wave of panic swept Wall Street. All of the investors that had bought stocks with borrowed money were wiped out completely. After this catastrophic day there was a massive downturn in factories and business. Many employers started firing off their employees, those that were lucky enough to stick with their jobs were getting really low wages. Many americans started buying stuff on credit, they later fell into debt. This Depression caused unemployment to rise to 25% by 1933. The Great Depression was not the only thing ... • 6. How Did Ancient Greece Influence Modern Society The Influence of Greece on Modern Society Greece and Rome have both heavily contributed to modern society, some of their contributions being architecture, knowledge, and tendencies in government. Without these two ancient civilizations, we might not be as technologically advanced as we are today. Although ancient Romans invented so many important things like aqueducts and roads, the ancient Greeks were more prominent in influencing modern culture. Some may argue that Rome has much more influence on modern societies, but the interesting thing about Rome is that it was heavily influenced by Greece. Ancient Greece was at its peak with art and religion around 800 B.C. to 500 B.C., and ancient Rome came around during early 700 B.C. Ancient Rome adapted many of the same ideals that ancient Greece had, like their polytheistic religion and their type of government. Essentially, ancient Greece was the stepping stone that began all of these ancient characteristics and influenced ancient Rome. The gold standard for flap monitoring includes the clinical inspection of color, capillary refill, temperature, and turgor of the transplanted tissue involved. Due to limited alternative reconstructive options available to patients, accurate and timely flap assessments are critical to the viability of the flap. Unfortunately post operative complications are sometimes unavoidable, however monitoring by a trained clinician is associated with early flap salvage rates that in turn improve patient care outcomes (Salgado, Chim, Shoenoff, Mardini, 2010). This performance improvement proposal explores the efficiency and accuracy of using telemedicine as an adjunct method of free flap monitoring comparted to traditional methods. This proposal will discuss the relevance of using digital photographs and internet technology as a means to improve response times between the nurse and the primary plastic surgeon that increase salvage rates of ischemic flaps. Conclusive findings from two studies involving 200 free flaps indicate that digital photographs and smart phone communication resulted timely intervention by the plastic that contributed to the success of flap ... • 28. Application Room For Breast Imaging When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives for breast imaging, the relevant medical history is reviewed and updated in the Magview system. Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the patient history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately added to the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Hawaii’s Renewable Energy Future Essay example By 2020, Hawaii is aiming to generate 20 percent of its energy from non fossil fuels (Brown et al. 2008, 11). According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Arent et al. 2009, 1 2), petroleum accounts for 90% of Hawaii s energy consumption and 75% of their electricity. Since Hawaii has no pipelines or oil fields, they are forced to import petroleum to accommodate their energy needs (Arent et al. 2009, 1). Hawaii is disconnected from the rest of the United States, which means that Hawaii has to take care of its own energy needs (Croucher 2010, 79).How can alternative energy sources reduce the need to import of petroleum? Hawaii s geography is optimal to make use of biofuel, solar, and geothermal resources (Brown et al. 2008, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hawaii has the bioavailability to support biofuels as a renewable resource. In addition to fuel crops, Hawaii also has abundant resources for biomass heating. During their research Turn et al. (2002, 4) found that the biomass resources for Hawaii include: swine, dairy, and poultry manure, sugarcane bagasse and trash, pineapple processing waste, macadamia nut shells, municipal solid wastes, food waste from commercial food preparation facilities, sewage sludge, and fat, oil and grease wastes from food preparation activities. One of the main advantages is that biomass energy can use municipal solid waste. Hawaii also produces about 10 pounds of trash per person coming to about 1.8 million tons of trash per year (Yap 2008). Hawaii has a power plant that can use over 2,000 tons of garbage a day to generate electricity (Covanta Energy 2011). Hawaii has decided to start exporting its garbage to give it enough time to expand the power plant s capacity (Yap 2008). Smaller scale biomass fueled power generation can help get rid of agricultural and municipal refuse, while alleviating the strain on the electricity grid and providing a cheap locally based source of electricity (Turn, Keffer, and Staackmann 2002, 17). If Hawaii develops biomass as a renewable resource, it can reduce the need to import petroleum and export garbage. Biomass is not the only renewable alternative option for Hawaii, ethanol can also be produced in Hawaii. According Keffer et al.(2009, 253), using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fair Negotiations In Collective Bargaining I believe if fair representation was negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement, it would be fair for the court to rules that the union has a duty to present these former employees. The sixteen employees were still members of the union; the union still had an obligation to represent them on this issue. Even though the employees were laid off, the union had a responsibility to fairly represent those employees because they were still paying their dues. One of the benefits that the union negotiated with the employer and employee was that if the company experience laid off the employees will be offered future employment opportunities if job opens again. • 31. High School Should Not Be Legal What is the most common reason why high school would go to college? My old friend Sean Kisch is going to graduate with a major in music. His eldest sister will be done with her degree in modern dance this semester. Looking at myself, I am not that far along. I attempted to navigate around college because it was seen as too expensive. The mountain of debt for going to a private Christian college is to grate to pay off. Most people are not made out of money. The money may not be the case because an alternative does exist, it just is not as glorious. A person can obtain an associate s degree at a community college for considerably less. Which is the choice I have made. I remember watching part of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated that most high school teens have the expectation of making mountains of cash. Most expected after college, they would make around one hundred thousand dollars or more. That figure is much lower, an entry level position with a college degree is between thirty and thirty five thousand. If you survive the odds of finishing school, there is still the mammoth task of finding a job. The majority of student who graduate do not have any not enough experience to enter most jobs. My friend Sean is going to Seedarville Univercity in Ohio, he will have around forty to eighty thousand dollars of debt unless his parents are paying for it. The Steam Engine and Electricity Powered the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution was an extremely important historical process in which the societies and cultures in the West, and then throughout the world, transformed under the influence of technological and scientific progress. The Western world, as industrialized as it is today, is the final result. Two major inventions, the steam engine and electricity, were both crucial parts of the technological progress that turned the wheels of the Industrial Revolution. According to World History From 1500 by J. Michael Allen and James B. Allen, the Industrial Revolution could not have happened without a new, reliable source of power (144). The steam engine became such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1765 a brilliant Scottish inventor James Watt made a major improvement to the Newcomen s engine; the resulting new engine required 75 percent less fuel. According to the History Channel presentation, Money and Power, the new invention got immediate attention of a Scottish businessman Roebuck, who bought two thirds of the patent. Later, unfortunately, the partnership fell apart, and Watt found a new partner in 1774, Matthew Boulton. Together they built a new water pump engine in five months, and by 1776 a few of the pumps were already in service. The new engine was far more affordable and efficient than Newcomen s engine and greatly improved the production in the areas it was used. But more tasks were awaiting the steam engine; new machines in various branches of industry needed power. As Egon Larsen writes in A History of Invention, Boulton badgered Watt to think of ways and means to convert the reciprocating movement of the engine into a rotary one for use in factories and, later perhaps, for vehicles and ships (37). Watt produced at least five different solutions. So, in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, Watt s engines were running all over Britain and abroad serving as pumps, blasting furnaces, and driving machinery in factories. As a result of these applications, In 1800 Great Britain was producing more coal and iron than the rest of the world combined: 12 million tons of coal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Authentic And Inauthentic Characters In No Exit By Sartre In No Exit , a great play by Sartre, there existed a mixture of both authentic and inauthentic characters. The play begins by Garcin entering an exceptionally secretive room joined by the room valet. Minutes after the fact, the room valet goes with Inez and after that Estelle into the same room. They have all been conveyed to the hereafter room for their damnation. They begin examining what happened to bring every one here or at the end of the day how did each of them kick the bucket. Estelle is by all accounts the most character in the play that lives an inauthentic existence. She tries to misdirect herself by denying the way that she has committed. She suffocated her own youngster in a river, in the wake of having an unsanctioned romance There was a balcony overlooking the lake. I brought a stone... (Sartre, No Exit, 29). The outright opportunity that Sartre talks about, is precisely the same that Estelle needs to surrender. She d rather exist according to others or have others characterize her presence. In connection to Hegel, he is the philosopher who believes that individuals either define themselves contrary to others or they look to others to mirror the picture of themselves. (Pandya, lecture notes). This is the most obvious in Estelle s character. She utilizes Inez as her mirror; actually, to characterize herself in light of the fact that she feels she doesn t exist when she can t discover something to advise her you exist. When I can t see myself I start to think about whether I truly and genuinely exist. (Sartre, No Exit, 19). Estelle here characterizes herself by taking a gander at Inez to mirror her picture of her. • 37. Institutional Racism In Schools School may seem like a safe and comforting place for children of all ethnicities, but this is not the case. America s education system has been plagued with discrimination and prejudice in the form of a phenomenon called institutional racism. Institutional racism is a pattern of social institutions such as governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts of law giving negative treatment to a group of people based on race ( Institutional Racism Lesson ). This issue is important because it normalizes racism and introduces children of color to discrimination at a very young age. If we put an end to racism in schools, it could be a big leap forward in ending it all together. Institutional racism has a lasting impact on the lives of minority students by lowering their academic performance, limiting future opportunities, and affecting mental and physical health. ( Institutional Racism in School System. ) Some argue that institutional racism does not exist today, or never existed at all. These people say that students of color have trouble in school because they do not care and do not try hard enough, not because of institutional racism (Pearlstein). They claim that people of color are being dramatic and looking for something to blame for their problems. Then there are those who admit to the existence of institutional racism but do not think it matters. Those individuals argue that claiming racism exists in schools is useless and will not do anything to stop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Power Structured Relationships Within A Patriarchal... In her text, Millet discusses the power structured relationships within a patriarchal society. She defines the concept of power as a series of oppressive circumstances between power structured relationships. In this relationship there is a dominant group and subordinate group. Millet states that the male shall dominate female, elder male shall dominate younger (Millet 25). Women are oppressed in a patriarchal society, giving men the power to dominate. The theory of patriarchy is derived from the creation of social norms based on biological differences between males and females (Millet, 27). Judith Butler would refer to these norms as the ways in which society believes each gender should perform. Women are socialized to be loving, affectionate and feminine, while men are more prone to dominant behavior. This has created cultural expectations that encourage the notion that women are inferior to men (Millet 31). During child development, family and society have traditionally encouraged patriarchal structures by reinforcing certain behavior such as aggression in male or passivity in female. As a result, children develop a core gender identity based on their upbringing. Children then grow within a culture of sexual hierarchy while maintaining the roles they have been classified to. As mentioned, Judith Butler would argue that this phenomenon is called gender performativity. Butler s theory of gender performativity describes the instability of gender and how it is created ...
