Basically physical segmentation means to have many different network on the basis of physical connectivity and VLANs may be defined as the division of network into logical parts and to have different networks with different nodes. Suppose if you have switch then it is better to have vlans rather than physical segmentation since as we know that switch is broadcasting frams and each interface of switch is present into different collision domain. So in order to have different broadcast domian we have to configure vlans into the switch. Which can certainly provide us security on the basis of different network. In above diagram we can have vlans on the every switch where each node connected to the switch would be placed into different network thus saves us from the collisions and broadcasting to the other nodes unnecessarily which may cause unnecessary overheads and less security in the network..
