Prof. Dr. Akhlas Ahmed gave a presentation on workplace communication in organizations at the School of Finance & IT Central Police Office in Karachi, Pakistan on March 9th, 2021. The presentation discussed different types of communication including verbal, non-verbal, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and written communication. It noted that non-verbal communication accounts for around 65% of interactions according to research. The presentation also reviewed vertical communication between different levels in an organization's hierarchy and horizontal communication between peers. The goal was to illuminate effective communication in the workplace.

- 20. Let’s talk… Interpersonal communication is the process of exchange of information, ideas and feelings between two or more people through verbal or non- verbal methods. It often includes face-to-face exchange of information, in a form of voice, facial expressions, body language and gestures.
- 21. Let’s talk… ‘Intrapersonal communication is communication with oneself and that may include self-talk, acts of imagination and visualization, and even recall and memory.’
- 22. Let’s talk.. A 'Written Communication' means the sending of messages, orders or instructions in writing through letters, circulars, manuals, reports, telegrams, office memos, bulletins, etc. It is a formal method of communication and is less flexible.
- 23. Let’s talk… It can be used both in a downward and upward direction. Vertical communication is a type of flow of information between members of organization who are on different levels of its hierarchy.
- 24. Let’s talk… Effective communication is a process of exchanging ideas, thoughts, knowledge & information such that the purpose or intention is fulfilled in the best possible manner. In simple words, it is nothing but the presentation of views by the sender in a way best understood by the receiver.
