What Are The Characters In Daughter Of Fortune
Daughter of Fortune
In the book, Daughter of Fortune, by Isabel Allende, the characters are ever changing. You have
Eliza, who through most of the novel dresses as a boy, Jacob Todd who transitions between a Bible
salesman and a newspaper reporter, Joe Bonecrusher who transitions from a tough, emotionless
woman to a very caring person, and Joaquin who transitions from an innocent, poor Chilean boy to
a person who is hunted down and killed. Many of the characters in Daughter of Fortune experience
a transition in their life, and I will tell you about four of those characters.
A transition can mean a lot of things. One of the more known transitions is the boy becoming a
man idea. One example I thought of that expressed this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then she transforms herself into a Chilean boy, acting as if she is the brother of Joaquin. Eliza will
come in contact with a traveling brothel, where she decides to go along and play the piano for
them. She eventually makes it back to San Francisco to live with Tao Chi en. Together they start
saving the lives of young Chinese girls who are sold to brothels, and are living in horrible, filthy
conditions. They form an underground system where they have the help of Quakers, and
Babalu the bad from the traveling brothel. Eliza soon hears word that Andieta had became a
bandit and a group of men were sent out to search for him, bringing him back dead or alive. The
men bring back what they say is Joaquin s head, and display it for all to see. Eliza learns his head
is on display and wants to go and see it immediately. With Tao Chi en by her side, Eliza takes one
look at the head, states she is free, and walks away.
I want to start off with the transitions that Eliza went through. She had made the most
transitions of all the characters. Her first transition was going from a little girl to a young
woman, when she falls in love with Joaquin. She gets carried away with the illusion of love, and
falls head over heels for him. Her second transition was when Tao Chi en had made the decision
to sneak her off the boat as a Chinese boy. She decided she actually liked dressing in men s clothes
because they weren t as restricting as women s. She then

3.1Literature Review:
Christine Oliver suggests that the context and process of selecting resources is an important
influence on firm heterogeneity and its sustainable competitive advantage. She argued that the

September 11th, 2001 has changed and defined American foreign policy for the past two decades.
Enemies of the United States are no longer only other nations, but also terrorist groups, which
operate transnationally and even between continents. On the night of September 11th, in the
aftermath of the deadliest terror attack the world has seen, former President George W. Bush and
his War Cabinet officially declared the start of the War on Terror . Bush would say on September
19th, 2001, The message to every country is, there will be a campaign against terrorist activity, a
worldwide campaign. And there is an outpouring of support for such a campaign. Freedom loving

Aristotles Eudaimonia
ARISTOTLE S EUDAIMONIA
Eudaimonia stands for happiness in Greek. Aristotle argues that the highest good for human
beings is happiness. He insists that every action performed by humans is to pursue happiness.
Aristotle also argues that human action is always aimed at some end or good. This good may
not be viewed as a good action or any good by others, but for the doer of the action ( good ), the
activity will be perceived as good and that it will bring a favorable outcome. Aristotle also said that
all of our actions resulting in ends or goods form a hierarchy. This hierarchy, incorporates a ladder
of things, and this ladder would categorize things according to their importance. And the most
important thing would be on top of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, Aristotle argues that [the best life or the happiest life is a life where the agent does
everything or lives their life for the sole purpose of philosophical contemplation]5. He also wrote
that a person must be fully intelligent, in order to live a life of happiness, since life is an activity of
virtues. This excluded babies, because of their age they can t participate in the activity and it also
excluded animals for the same reasoning.
In the course of reading Nicomachean Ethics Book I, one of the problems I have encountered is the
generalizations that Socrates makes about happiness. He says that the highest activity must be in
accordance with the virtue. So these virtues are being defined as being virtues only if they lead to
happiness. But what about virtues that exist but don t lead to happiness or maybe they can not be
explained as leading to happiness. For example courage or justice. Somebody can be courageous
naturally, then does this mean then they don t have a happy life?
The second problem I have come across is that Aristotle said that in order to profit from the study
he undertook, one must already have been brought up in good habits. Then he means that his
audience must consist of people who already have retained virtues. This would very much limit the
audience. It would not address people who have doubts or are not sure about the values of
traditional virtues and have not

Ethical Argument Essay
Section 1: Thesis Statement
In this paper, I provide an ethical analysis of the fact that the Food and Drug Administration has
made eased guidelines for taking a pill which causes abortion by: summarizing the facts; stating the
key ethical issues; and critically considering potential arguments using ethical concepts and
frameworks.
Section 2: Facts summary
I found the current event on new F.D.A. guidelines ease access to the abortionpill from the New
York Times article. The article was published on March 30, 2016 by Sabrina Tavernise. New FDA
approval with regards to the abortion pill was reinforced in the United States, but does not specify
the major cities. Several laws were enforced in regulating to the guidelines on the drug but has
been blocked by court order among the following states: Texas, North Dakota, Ohio, Arkansas,
Oklahoma, and Arizona. There are some women that have felt ill or have died as a consequence of
taking the drug, mifepristone. Women feel ill after taking the drug because they take Mifepristone
and Misoprostol which cause miscarriage.

Code of ethics: The FDA has committed its responsibility to shield women s wellbeing and secure
human life after the FDA decision. It is important to know that FDA s role in society is promoting
the health of American citizens. The public and Congress need to recognize that the FDA has an
intimidating responsibility to establish that new therapeutic products are safe and efficient, and to
evade the danger of also challenging the public and private health reactions from the FDA, which
is simply unattainable. The FDA has a duty to ensure that women are receiving the appropriate
dosage, the number of visits to see the doctor, and number of days she has to take the pill.
According to Tavernise (2016), the change brings the directions for taking the drug, mifepristone, in
line with what has become standard medical practice in most states... reducing the dosage to 200
milligrams from 600

Stanley s Life In Holes, By Louis Sachar
The novel Holes was written by Louis Sachar. It tells the tale of Stanley Yelnats IV and his
experience at Camp Green Lake. Stanley had to make a lot of tough choices throughout his life,
the one that I thought was the toughest choice was his decision to go to Camp Green Lake
instead of jail. Camp Green Lake had made a big impact in Stanley s life. It was the place where he
met Zero and where he got the curse taken off his family.
Stanley had a choice to either go to jail or Camp Green Lake. The judge said, You may go to jail, or
you may go to Camp Green lake (Sachar,5). Stanley s family was poor. He had never been to camp
before (Sachar,5). Stanley had decided to go to camp instead of jail because he had never

but he forgot to and his family was cursed for all of eternity. First Stanley didn t believe in

It felt nice to actually be able to put words and names to the ways that I think when I am feeling
stressed and negative, as well as names to describe my coping methods. It was also nice to
realize I had some specific and easily identifiable coping methods in general. I think that learning
the names for these things and realizing they are common will help me to more actively identify
when these kind of recursive negative should thoughts are happening, and allow me to begin
using my coping methods more consciously and actively than I have been prior to this exercise.
2. Complete the activities in Ch. 5 of Forsyth Eifert (2007). Describe your experience in
completing these activities and how the experience impacted you. For the first activity in

assistantship went from well managed and stress free to incredibly stressful, as new deadlines

Thursday, I had an hour and a half long meeting with Sandi and another researcher from a different
university that seemed to go point by point through all the issues with the project I had inherited

Australian Living Conditions
The living conditions and the treatment of Australian Prisoners of War by the Japanese during
World War II were horrific. The Japanese soldiers treated the Australian soldiers in such an
inhumane way which resulted in the loss of many Australian lives. The living conditions included
bed bugs, scare food and water. The Japanese believed the Australian soldiers were dishonourable
and believed they deserved to be punished, this is the main cause of the prisoners mistreatment of

The military sent fresh food and clean clothes into camps until the prisoners were able to come
home. It took one to two months for the boats to arrive at camps to take prisoners home; the
stronger prisoners were taken by plane whilst the weaker were brought by boat. Prisoners soon
became VIPs as all prisoners were rescued before other soldiers. The exact number of prisoners is
unknown as the Japanese did not keep records, or destroyed all of which they had; although it is
estimated that one third of prisoners died in Japanese camps this is seven times higher than the
death rate of Australian Prisoners of War in German camps. When soldiers were informed about
their homecoming they were relieved and elated. We were going home, and it was just really

The Kingdom s Government has formulated a long term strategy for the nation that it calls
Bahrain Vision 2030. Unveiled by the Economic Development Board in November 2007, the
vision was the outcome of over four years of consultation with representatives from the public and
private sectors, academia and international bodies. Serving as a blueprint for dramatic economic
and social transformation, the vision commits the nation to massively improved standards of
living, radically reformed Government, widespread privatization, better education and health

The Theories And Principles Of Adult Learning
Adult Learning
Investigating and understanding the theories and principles underpinning adult learning has
helped me to advance my thinking about this phenomena. For instance, Piaget s work involving
the formal operational stage, according to Bass (2012) has allowed for the assumption that
adults learn in a fixed manner developed in their late teen years and that they remain unchanged
from this stage (p. 387). It was assumed that adults, then spent the rest of their lives in that stage.
However, other theorist such as Knowles, surfaced during the 1970s to clarify the misconception.
It is interesting to note that in the early 1970 s there was a spark of interest and debate over
andragogy and the need to define theories within the field (Knowles, et al 2011). Knowles, et al.
(2011) support the ideas that there are core principles of andragogy that will enable those designing
and leading instruction for adults to be more effective in building learning processes.
Additionally, andragogy is based on key assumptions which set it apart from pedagogy learning.
Adults learning is usually tied to one of the assumptions of andragogy such as a learners their need
to know. For example, this assumption encourages instructors to investigate ways to bridge the gap
between the learner s current position and the goals of the instruction. Secondly, Knowles, et al.
(2011) claim that adults have a strong need to be responsible for their own decisions, thereby
having a strong

about whatever comes to their mind, which keeps the show very humorous. Although Michael
can be a bit more crude with his jokes. The Office is more negative with their humor than Parks
and Recreation. A lot of the humor on The Office comes from making fun of or bringing down
the other characters. This kind of a comedy makes for a funny and intriguing TV show. Also The
Office has a bigger cast. Throughout the 10 seasons, the cast gets bigger. Some of the characters
leave throughout the seasons and new ones will come in. Parks and Recreation is a smaller cast,
and does not have as many characters that come and go through the seasons. Both of these
comedies are very similar, but yet they are so different. Both The Office and Parks and

Office though. I believe it is a better quality TV show. To me The Office is more humorous than

The Evil Character Of Iago
Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown
through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed
through the imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters,
though different in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and
how they represent a different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray
themselves as kind, caring, and honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest
and malevolent. They also all have the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct
reason to, only their own desire to do so. While good is self producing and improving, evil is self
destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as an evil character, holds many similarities to other
wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago
to display the different forms evil can take on such as being hidden behind false intentions, turning
into an image of good, and its destructive nature resulting into its own end.
In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often
called Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is
hidden behind. Iago, when speaking to Rodrigo about his honorable position, he reveals his true
intentions behind what he does in his position by saying,

How Does Chimpanzees Use Language
Can animals learn to use language or is it all a load of monkey business? Animals can not use
language because language is an exclusive skill that belongs to humans. Chimpanzees can
communicate with each other, but that doesn t qualify as language. One type of Chimpanzee is
learning in a laboratory, however, they are only learning simplistic symbols.
One reason why Chimps communicate but don t use language is they can be trained since birth, but
they still won t be able to communicate with the complexity level that humans do. Kanzi the
Bonobo learned 348 symbols at the age of 26 which is the equivalent 3,000 English words. Even if
animals could use a language they could very well not be able to speak clearly because of their

The Scarecrow
A farmer and his family lived on their farm in a little town in Alberta. The farmer s son and his
friends built a scarecrow one day. They built a very ugly scarecrow. That night, there was a storm
and the wind got strong. It began to rain with thunder and lightening. The boy woke up and looked
out of the window.
The lightning flashed, and he was able to see the scarecrow. The scarecrow seemed farther than
where he had put it. The boy kept looking out for the scarecrow every time there was lightning
and each time the scarecrow seemed to be at a little different place. The boy was very tired and
so he said to himself that he was just imagining things. He went back to sleep but was soon woken
up by loud thunder. He looked out the window but he could no longer see the scarecrow.
The boy decided to go out into the field and search for the scarecrow, thinking maybe the wind
had blown it away. When he got outside, he looked around but didn t see it anywhere. He ran to
a big tree in the field, but he tripped and fell to the ground. He got up and looked up at the big

Assess Whether Pericles Was a Good or Bad Leader
Assess Whether Pericles Was A Good or Bad Leader
Pericles (C. 495 429 BC) was a very influential politician and general in Athens. He is said to have
brought about a very important time in Athenian history known as The Golden Age of Athens
where he brought about or placed focus on certain things like art, which gave Athens the reputation
as the cultural and educational centre of Ancient Greece, architecture, where he created a project to
beautify the city and provide work for Athenians with most of its products like the Parthenon still
surviving and giving us an idea of the glory of Athens. He also made valuable contributions to
drama, the bringing about of democracy and the establishment of the Greek empire.

Other symbolic attributes for a lion are strength, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority,
dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity which I believe are all attributes displayed by Pericles in
both his political and military career. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the
home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens.
There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by
the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the
people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes.
Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in
chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the
Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with
strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills.
Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not
carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. The evidence, as said in the last
paragraph is in his great speeches and his ability to draw a certain reaction from the Athenian people
and so though some may argue that he left the Athenians with no authoritative leader which could
only be gained

What Is The Theme Of The Green Mile By Stephen King
We often tend to only read stories that appeal to our interests. I never would have thought I would
enjoy a book written by Stephen King. His unique writing style makes stories we would usually
find gruesome and disturbing, to be interesting. In his novel, The Green Mile, King uses
flashbacks, supernatural powers, good versus evil and other important literary devices to draw the
reader s attention. This story is centered around a death rowsupervisor, Paul Edgecomb, and his
experiences throughout his career, especially his encounter with an unusual inmate, John Coffey.
King s description of the experiences inside Cold Mountain Penitentiary Block E are written in such
a way that makes the audience sense the emotions of the characters. This story is a very powerful,
emotional, anguish, and highly enjoyable read. Stephen Kingis often known for his horror theme in
his novels. In his book, The Green Mile, the theme is centered around death. This story is told in
first person narrative by Paul Edgecomb. It switches from Paul as on old man in the nursing home,

Bowling For Columbine Ethos Pathos Logos
Bowling for Columbine film by Michael Moore is a film in which its central argument is that
Americans are afraid of each mainly because of the media whose goals are to put fear in the
American community. Unlike several documentaries this one is unique; this film is intended to
appeal to the audience who are against guns or are pro gun control and safety. Across this film,
Moore s takes all of the audience through an exploration of the history of guns and violence, and
with the big question, we all ask when a young adult commits a violent act, whom should we
blame for this? We start off with ethos or credibility. One way Moore shows credibility is when he
not only interviewed one side of the gun issues but both. An example would be when he
interviewed victims of the Columbine massacre, a parent of one of the victims, but also the NRA
(National Rifle Association)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the survivors requested that K Mart stop selling handgun bullets, K Mart later
announced that they decided to discontinue the sales of gun ammunition altogether. For the next
example, several individuals might disagree that this is not pathos but when Moore s shares
Tamarla Owens story. Tamarla is the mother of the six year old boy who shot and killed the six
year old girl Michaela Roland in Flint, Michigan. Moore talks about how Tamarla was not home
the morning of the incident because she was on her three hour round trip bus journey to
Oakland country, to work at her two jobs at the mall, as part of the State of Michigan s welfare
program. Pathos conveyed in two ways to the audience; first, they are shocked, that how in the
world did a six year old boy get a hold of a gun? Moreover, the audience gets exceptionally
heartbroken about the little girl s death which gave fuel to the fire on hatred for gun

The Governance Of External Auditors
Governance of external auditors
Role of auditor
In an effort to transform MSEL into a listed company, we should be able to ensure that the
shareholders interests are protected. In the past, 85% of shares were owned by the directors, and
they were highly motivated to work for the profitability of MSEL as the share was directly
correlated with their remuneration. However, after joining the London Stock Exchange, the
directors proportion of shares will inevitably decrease as a result of issuing new shares.
It is not uncommon that human are self interest, as the agents (managers) of MSEL, shareholders
will be afraid that the information provided by us tends to be inadequate, making them suffer
unnecessary risks. To deal with this problem, auditors have been introduced. By making contracts
with the business, auditors act as the supervisory body and provide detailed report to the
shareholders. In a way, auditors prevent the business from manipulating and cheating the
shareholders, and then protect the public interest.
Issue of contract with Adams Co
Although we know that Adams Co, our auditor, has given a clean auditopinion , there still remains
some serious problems with reference to the corporate governance aspect. The senior partner of
auditors, Bill, was at the same university with Jack Bradford, our business establisher. The public
may worry that governance of MSEL will be insufficient, because Adams Co can be in a position
to shield MSEL for own interest.

Ghost In The Christmas Carol
In the book The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, there are three ghosts: The ghost of Christmas
Past, Present, and Future. The ghosts were sent to haunt Scrooge so he wouldn t be so antagonistic,

Theory of Constraints and Queuing Theory
Evaluating the Theory of Constraint and Queuing Theory
Abstract The Theory of Constraints and the Queuing Theory is something that all forms of
businesses should be looking to exploit. The Theory of Constraints contends that all businesses
have some form of constraint that keeps them from working at optimum efficiency. These
constraints are found, reviewed, and corrected by a simple process of finding what to change, what
to change to, and how to cause the change. The Queuing Theory can be applied in a similar fashion
in businesses. In comparison, it attempts to point out inefficiencies similar to that of the Theory of
Constraints; however, it seeks to accomplish these goals through a mathematical equation rather
through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business Application Fagan (2009) looked into a Smail Collision Center in Greensburg, Pa and
how they have been actively implementing the Theory of Constraints for more than a year. The
findings were staggering with regards to the positive impact that was realized throughout
company. Fagan (2009) stated that Smail was able to reduce its cycle times by 64 percent,
making them twice as fast as their previous operating model. Their flat rate productivity went
from 120 percent to 190 percent. Sales grew by 12.8 percent and net growth was 36.7 percent in
2007 and increased by an additional 26 percent in 2008 which resulted in a net increase of 50
percent. With these astounding results digging further into the TOC process becomes a very
attractive option for many businesses to explore. Taking a step back, Bates (n.d.) examines how
TOC helps companies. He states that TOC allows companies to focus improvement efforts where
they will have the greatest immediate impact on bottom line as well as providing a reliable
process that insists on follow through. AGI Goldratt Institute (n.d.) asks the question as to how
can any generic solution have such a broad applicability? They answer this question with a
powerful analogy: just as the strength of a chain is dictated by its weakest link, the performance of
any value chain is dictated by its constraint. Recognizing this, Bates (n.d.) lists the five steps in the
road map for a business to accomplish

The Daily Routine At Dollar Tree Inc.
Diagnosis
The daily routine at Dollar Tree Inc. is very basic and is usually minimally manned. Problems such
as stray items, wrong inventory and cash drawer mismatch arise due to employees not having the

Training at Dollar Tree Inc. is virtually non existent. The orientation is an hour at most and morale
is very low. The mission statement is only mentioned at orientation. Due to the fact that the
position of a cashier is considered to be very simple, the emphasis on training is very little. First

The results might be surprising to the Managers. Especially, when they are out of touch with what
really is going on around the store.
Step 2 is forming a powerful guiding coalition. Leadership will have to be on board and on the
same page in regards to the change. Kotter and Cohen reveal the core problems people face when
leading change. Their main findings are that the central issue concerns not structure or systems but
behavior and how to alter it (Farris, 2008). The success of the changes will depend on the ability of
the managers to show their commitment to change and motivate the employees to do the same.
Without any process to track the implementation, the change can also fail.
Step 3 is to create a vision. The vision will have to be something that can be realistically achieved
within a couple of months. Making small changes to training will better to subtly introduce the
existing employees a better way to process the go back to prevent stray items. Mentioning the
vision of the company other than just at orientation can improve the focus of the employees.
Having a clear vision of where they stand in the company can increase morale due to their stability
and contribution in the company.
Step 4 is to communicate the Vision. When everyone in the company understands and believes in
what the company stands for, it creates a sense of unity and will reduce resistance to change.
Communication is the key. Training will be implemented, but if there are any additional

Saturday Night Live Judith Ortiz Cofer Analysis
In today s entertainment industry, whether it be books, films, advertisements, or television
shows, white people are depicted terribly. Likewise, in her essay, Judith Ortiz Cofer tells of her
struggles of being a Puerto Rican woman. Men sing songs to her, like La Bamba or Don t Cry
For Me, Argentina, just because she is Hispanic. They think she is promiscuous based on the way
that she dresses, but it is really just because it is hot in Puerto Rico. A prime example of this, not
just of white people, but Donald Trump supporters, in an ad by Saturday Night Live, portrays
white Trump supporters as Ku Klux Klan members, burning books in the fireplace, painting White
Power on the side of a house and many more offensive scenes. This is NOT how I think. I would

reason, and this reason is that they think that all white Southern people are uneducated because
they choose these people to go on the news. This is not true, either. Going off of the crazy,
redneck type of white people, trashy white people are also stereotypical. For example, on the

Human Failings And God s Plan Of Redemption
The Old Covenant is a compilation of testimonies and instructions given to all of Israel. They had
been instructed by God s servants and had witnessed numerous divine miracles from God, yet they
failed to live up to their end of the bargain. This overview will show us a pattern of human failings
and God s plan of redemption.
CREATION
In the beginning was God, God creates the universe, he creates Adam and Eve and institutes
marriage . Satan tempts Adam and Eve, who then falls into sin, for the wages of sin is death.
The Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife to wear and graciously
pronounced upon all creation a curse for which he has provided the cure. Pronouncing a son, who
will crush the head of Satan who is depicted as a serpent.
THE PATRIARCHS
One of the most significant examples of God s redemptive plan is introduced through Abraham.
God promises to give Abraham his own land and to make him a father of a great nation through
his descendants. His wife Sarah was also old and had always been barren. However God insisted
that Sarah would bear a son to Abraham and his name would be Isaac. Through the promise and
power of God, Isaac was indeed born to them. In time, Isaac begot Jacob who became known by the
name Israel. He fathered 12 sons from whom the twelve tribes of Israel were descended. They are
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Gad, Asher, Joseph, Benjamin, Dan and Naphtali.
Joseph s brothers sold him into slavery and he ends

As for metal, it has many uses. In fact, modern civilization has thrived off of things where iron is
used like: buildings, car frames, bridges, and much more.
Is this element rare? Where can it be found?
Iron is the fourth common element. It can be found in Earth s crust and core. There is an abundant
amount of iron that can be found in the stars.
How easy is it to extract and use this element?
It is a long process to extract Iron to get it from an ore to its final product. In the beginning stages,
an iron ore is heated along with limestone and pure carbon in a furnace that reaches temperatures
ranging up to 1,500В°C (2,700В°F); this process helps remove oxygen from iron ore. The
limestone is used to erase imperfectirons.
Is your element found in the human body? If so, what function does it perform?
Iron is a mineral found in the human body. It is a part of the protein hemoglobin of a cell, which
transports oxygen from our lungs throughout our bodies.
With what elements does it react? Are these chemical compounds beneficial or harmful?
When Iron reacts with oxygen, it starts to rust.
Why did you choose your element s sidekick or nemesis? What makes your superhero element want
to combine with or repulse this other element?
I chose carbon as her sidekick because when combined, it creates carbon steel, making Iron stronger
by not being susceptible to rusting. Iron s parents died shortly right

Abstract Fast Distributed Mining (FDM) which generates a small number of candidate set and
substantially reduce the number of messages to be passed at mining association rules. Distributed
data mining offers a way by data can be shared without compromising privacy. A protocol for
secure mining of association rules in horizontally distributed databases. The main ingredients in
the existing protocol are two novel secure multi party algorithms one that computes the union of
private subsets that each of the interacting players hold and another that tests the inclusion of an
element held by one player in a subset held by another. In order to improve the performance of
the system it presents the subgroup discovery concept in this system. The paper present secure

Pneumoniae was identified as a common respiratory pathogen. Primarily, S. pneumoniae is a
commonly found in the upper respiratory tracts as a normal flora in humans. S. pneumoniae is the
most common cause of community acquired pneumonia where children are identified as the
primary carriers (Choa, 2014). S. pneumoniae is so common that health care providers have noted
key characteristics, making it apparent to detect and diagnose. More importantly, the common
phenotypic features of S. pnuemoniae are characterized by its colonic morphology being that it is
lancet shaped, catalase negative, optochin sensitivity and bile solubility. Pursuing this further, it is
important to follow strict testing procedures to distinguish which pathogen is preset, according to
their characteristics, in order to rule a diagnosis. Ideally, the First step in diagnosis of S.
pneumoniae can be determined using a Catalase test. In this test, S. Pneumoniae shows up as
catalase negative where further differentiation is made by the presence of a hemolytic pattern of
partial hemolysis on the blood agar plate. Another way to diagnose S. Pneumoniae is by using an
Optochin sensitivity test. This test is used to determine a specific classification of all Streptococcus
bacteria. The chemical, optochin, is used in the Optochin test to detect the sensitivity of bacteria,

Evolution Of Moths Research Paper
When you say the word Moth , you think about the winged insects that hang around the light on
your porch or yard. Moths can be different in color, shape, or even size. This was also said by
David Moskowitz. These winged insects are food for bats or birds. Some cultures in the world
even eat moths, moths can pollinate plants. In the United States there are up to 10,000 to 11,000
mothspecies. If you see a flower that looks fragrant and white, example a yucca plant, it was most
likely pollinated by the moths. Bats use moths as food to fill them up at night. In other cultures
around the world, people use moths as protein to satisfy them. In some african countries it is
common to eat moths for protein.
( Butterflies and Moths of North America) In some countries there are complaints of moths eating
clothes and that they have destroyed blankets or even carpets. They can also be referred to as
Webbing Clothes Moths . These moths can be a ВЅ inch long, and do not like light much. It might

Lifetime Show Analysis
Back in the summer of 2015, I was directed to a new Lifetime show called UnREAL, and because
one of my favorite actors, Brennan Elliott, was going to be on it, I knew I had to be an active
member of the audience. Although I was aware that I was leaping out of my comfort zone to
watch this show, I didn t plan on becoming quite so invested in the characters and the storyline
that I anticipated season two (and soon, season three) with great delectation. What began as a sort
of grandstand for Host Graham evolved into so much more. In the role of the devious,
manipulative Chet, I was introduced to the stupendous work of Craig Bierko. Due to our busy
schedules, we only recently had the opportunity to exchange a simpe Q A, and I am so grateful...

While many actors may often wonder if their fans will find their story entertaining, I rarely find
a tale that doesn t resonate with the fans, myself included, to some degree. And in the case of
Craig, that is precisely the case. I never would have pegged him as a musical sort of person (I am
still in the early stages of my exploration of the works of this multi talented guy), and there is no
doubt from the detailing of his roles, his work and his outlook on his life and career that he is
humble, pragmatic and benevolent. He doesn t see himself as a superstar, and in that case, he
appears to be the antithesis of this resplendently disreputable character he plays on UnREAL. I
am always convinced that shows that receive such wide acclaim must have a core group of cast
and crew that dispose of their egos, labor without complaint, and become a sort of extended
family. Viewers constantly connect with shows in which the people portraying the roles are
genuine and down to earth, and it would appear that Craig is all that and more. His explantion of
how he approaches his character was a delcious description for me to savor, and it is clear that
he knows what his role is within the production, and he does it darn well! I would invite everyone
to check out Craig at all the links below, and even if UnREAL is not your cup of tea, consider

Majority of the patients with TMD have relatively mild or infrequent symptoms which may
improve on their own within weeks or months with basic home therapy. Following simple remedies
like eating soft foods, applying ice or moist heat, and avoiding extreme jaw movements may aid in
easing symptoms. According to the NIH, because more studies are needed on the safety and
effectiveness of most treatments for jaw joint and muscle disorders, experts strongly recommend
using the most conservative, reversible treatments possible. Although TMJ disorders have become
persistent, most patients still do not need any aggressive types of treatment.

Temporomandibular disorder usually is a dysfunction involving anatomical structures like the
temporomandibular joint, muscles/ligaments/tendons surrounding the joint, structures
surrounding the joint such as the ears, neck, cervical spine, teeth, face, ligaments, nerves, and
blood vessels surrounding the joint, mouth, and teeth. TMJ disorder either impacts the joint
itself, or the muscles responsible for occlusion and jaw mobility. When there is an imbalance
within any of the structures in and around the temporomandibular joint there is a potential risk
for a TMJ disorder (1). The best imaging modality for viewing the TMJ and the disc is an MRI
where a normal disc will appear the same on both T1 and T2 weighted images. In cases of acute
disc mobility there will be an increased signal intensity on T1 images (2). Hard tissue imaging
can be used to asses osteoarthritis (3). So when there is a derangement of the muscles
surrounding the joint, the disc itself, the bones forming the joints or the tendons connecting them,
which can be visualized with an MRI or an X ray and when the condition is accompanied by
clinical symptoms like pain, swelling or clicking noises, we can conclude on a TMJ disorder. Pain

Secured Personal Loans
When it comes to deciding what type of personal loan you need there is more to consider than just
how much should be taken out and whether the repayments feasible. An equally important question
is whether to take out a secured loan or an unsecured loan.
Secured personal loans
Secured personal loans require the borrower to provide a financial guarantee to aid the lender in
the event of a default. This could be in the form of cash or could also be secured in other forms,
such as a vehicle, equity in property or valuables. Secured personal loans usually have lower interest
rates as the financial guarantee provides increased protection for the lender against default risk.

International Globalization
The process of globalisation creates various market prospects for businesses, and is one of the most
effective means through which a business can expand. While there are multiple reasons to trade
internationally, some of the most common include business growth, market diversification, increase
in sales, and the opportunity to create or dominate new markets. Organisations employ many tactics
in order to expand globally, and consider many factors before entering into trade agreements.
Overall, global trade is effective for both the small business and the Australian trade market. Before
entering the international market, it is vital for businesses to consciously understand the language,
culture, religion, demographics, political system, legal system, and economy of the foreign country.
Failing to recognise these factors may result in business failure or inability to operate in said
country. While these factors are important, additionally so are the market, supplies, investors,
locations, and competitors in the country of expansion, as they will affect business success. There
are multiple methods that businesses can employ in order to expand into the international market;
export (both direct and indirect), foreign investment, relocation of production, management
contracts and franchising. All these methods have advantages and disadvantages; however, a
commonly used method is exporting, with a 2016 Australian International Business Survey

The Humanities And Social Sciences Position At Dalyellup...
I wish to apply for the Humanities and Social Sciences position at Dalyellup College. I was
particularly inspired to apply for this position because of your schools focus on collaboration
and partnerships. As I strongly believe that it is through teamwork and collaboration that teachers
continue to grow and develop. That every teacher has their own style, areas of strengths and
weakness so it is only through working together that we can strive to become outstanding
teachers who have the necessary skills to assist all our students reach their potential. This is why
finding a role within a school that has a focus on collaboration was a priority for me when
seeking a position for 2017, so that I can share and learn from other teachers in order to keep
developing as a teacher. As is it only through being dynamic and innovative that we can continue to
engage with our students in our ever changing world and help them achieve success.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali Research Paper
How would you react to someone criticizing your religion? Would you hate them or defend them,
in the name of the First Amendment? This is a question people have been pondering after
listening to Ayaan Hirsi Ali s various interviews and speeches. Ayaan is a Somali born woman
who fled to the Netherlands when she was around 23, to escape the marriage her father had
arranged for her to her cousin. She is known as a big criticizer of the religionof Islam, and this is
largely in part because of her own experiences (which you will learn about later in this paper).
Ayaan possesses many qualities that would make people follow a leader: she shows bravery and
perseverance in continuing to speak out about her opinions on Islam, even though many people...

And as soon as you really take note of it, you re going to have to ask yourself, What have I got to
do with this? . ). She also delves into unsafe territory in saying what she says, which she
acknowledges: People have been warning about this backlash for 30 years. (Bethune). This
shows just how persistent she is (though many people, even other Muslims here in America,
have sent her death threats because of her speeches). These are not just good traits to have for a
leader, but anyone could have these. Being brave, persevering, and persisting are all great skills
to have in this world. They will help you with many things: getting good grades, a job, a raise,
etc. If students like us will take away anything from learning about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it should be
that you should not be afraid to speak your mind, and to not judge a book by it s cover (because
Ayaan used to be a devout Muslim but is now an outspoken atheist). Everyone disagrees about
Ayaan. They say she shouldn t be so critical of Islam, and that not everyone is bad just because of
their religion. This is a great thing to discuss, because no two people are exactly the same: One
person may think that what she is doing is fine, but someone else may say that Ayaan is being too
harsh to others. Whatever you may believe, you should know that Ayaan Hirsi Ali has changed the
way people think about religion and the restriction of speech

IntroductionZespri is a grower owned corporatized cooperative based out of New Zealand. The
company, which was introduced in 1997, is focused solely on delivering and marketing Kiwifruit.
Zespri was founded out of necessity by New Zealand s Kiwifruit growers after the price of kiwifruit
declined and the industry faced a disaster. Zespri is owned by 2,700 current and former kiwifruit
growers, and is governed by an eight member board elected by the shareholders. In 2008, Lain

They have intellectual property protected varieties of kiwifruits and have created a global
sourcing to maintain supply year round. Kiwifruit, however, is not a trademarked product, so it is
imitable. The ability of competitors to imitate Zespri is hindered by their marketing efforts. Zespri
spent over 6% of revenues on promotion to market Zespris kiwifruit as the World s finest . On
average fruit industry spends only 0.7%. The inimitability of Zespri s trademark and the promotion
of a unique brand create sustainable competitive advantage for the company.
Non Substitutability: To compete with Zespri, competitors are cultivating their own types of
kiwifruit, which is different from Zespri s types of kiwi, such as red flesh kiwifruit. What s more,
the competitors in Italy and Chile are competing with New Zealand. These competitors supply
cheaper kiwifruit than Zespri. The firm developed several varieties of products such as Zespri
Green, Gold, and Organic in response to the competition. Also, Zespri encouraged maintaining the
strict growing standards, high standards of quality, food safety, traceability and sustainability to
differentiate themselves from other producers.
Exploitability: In terms of exploitability, Zespri is doing well using their resources, and capabilities.
Zespri promoted two way communications with growers to support transparency and to build a
long term positive relationship with its consumers,

C. S. Lewis The Chronicles Of Narnia
You may know C.S. Lewis for writing the Chronicles of Narnia, but he was known for a variety
of more things. He was known for writing novels, essays, critical commentary, autobiographies,
poems, short stories, and he was also a diarist ( World 2075). He would write about what he was
going through of something based on what he believed. C.S. Lewis was a great author because
he wrote from the heart and about things that impacted him the most. C.S. Lewis had a
challenging childhood, but I believe that helped shape him as an author and a person. He was
born on November twenty ninth, eighteen ninety eight in Belfast, Ireland (MacNee 252). His
Father was a solicitor and his mother was a daughter of a clergyman (MacNee 252). Lewis s
mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was only nine years old (MacNee 252). After his
mother s death, his father distanced away from C.S. Lewis and his older brother, Warren... Show

Lewis wrote quite a few books and letters, but you probably know him best for writing the
Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis said that he believed that his imaginative self inspired the series
(MacNee 255). Many people told Lewis not to write the Narnia series because it would ruin his
reputation, but he wrote the children s book anyway (Imbornoni 2). Throughout the series there
are many biblical references which makes sense because Lewis believed in the bible. One of the
references he put in there was Aslan (a lion) which represented God. Another success of C.S.
Lewis was The Screwtape Letters. They were his first Christian success (MacNee 255). In an
interview in 1963 he said that the Screwtape letters was the only one of all his books that he didn
t enjoy writing (Mancini 2). He said he found the book dry and gritty going (Mancini 2). This
series is about notes from a senior devil to a junior tempter (MacNee 255). Lewis even considered
making a companion novel from the perspective of an angel but his standards were high so he didn
t pursue it (Mancini

Neil Degrasse Tyson Research Paper
The Man of the Cosmos
We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both those
facts, is that the universe is in us (Tyson). These words are spoken by one of the most influential
and one of the smartest people of our time. He is astrophysicist, a teacher, and an author. A person
teaching the world the beauty of our universe and many other things. I am talking about Neil
deGrasse Tyson.
Neil deGrasse Tyson was born on October 5, 1958 in New York Manhattan by Cyril and
Sunchita deGrasse Tyson. Tyson s journey to becoming what he is right now is very interesting
once you learn about it. His love for science all started when he was 9 years old when he went to
go visit the Hayden Planetarium, which is in New York. He started his studies in The Bronx
High School of Science and while he attended this school he would give lectures about
astronomy and was the school editor for the Physical Science Journal in his school, so he started
teaching people before he made it into his career. When it was time for him to choose a
University, he was called by Carl Sagan to come by and visit the Carl Sagan Institute in Cornell
University located in New York, and Carl was not some random professor, but he was pretty much
the whole reason as to why Neil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Horror Genre Films
Horror Genre Essay
Horror Genre Films are unsettling films that are created to frighten and panic the audience. They
are there to invoke our hidden worst fears yet entertaining the audience. They deal with our most
undiscovered fears, our nightmares, and our vulnerability, our terror of the unknown, our fear of
death or our loss of identity. Watching a horror filmgives an opening into the scary world, into a
passage for the essence of fear itself, but not really being in danger.
Common story lines and plots that writers create when making a movie are the common clichГ©s
all horror movies will generally have. Like parents never understanding the child when something
is about to happen, or when the character is home alone they will call out to see if anybody is
there. Most horror movies include mythical creatures such as ghosts, vampires, and zombies. A
horror movies tradition is to include a large amount of violence and gore into the plot. Though the
genre has its own style, Horror film often overlap into Thriller and Science Fiction genre (Alien,
1979). Technical codes in horror movies commonly builds up the tension in the scenes being
filmed, Using Long takes (Hostel, 2005). All Horror movies use the key of low key lighting very
commonly in Documentary horror genre to enhance the suspense of what is occurring (the Blair
Witch Project, 1999). This narrative structure has been followed accurately in (Blair Witch Project)
where three film students travel to Maryland to

You have Eliza, who through most of the novel dresses as a boy, Jacob Todd who transitions between a Bible salesman and a newspaper reporter, Joe Bonecrusher who transitions from a tough, emotionless woman to a very caring person, and Joaquin who transitions from an innocent, poor Chilean boy to a person who is hunted down and killed. Many of the characters in Daughter of Fortune experience a transition in their life, and I will tell you about four of those characters. A transition can mean a lot of things. One of the more known transitions is the boy becoming a man idea. One example I thought of that expressed this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They form an underground system where they have the help of Quakers, and Babalu the bad from the traveling brothel. Eliza soon hears word that Andieta had became a bandit and a group of men were sent out to search for him, bringing him back dead or alive. The men bring back what they say is Joaquin s head, and display it for all to see. Eliza learns his head is on display and wants to go and see it immediately. With Tao Chi en by her side, Eliza takes one look at the head, states she is free, and walks away. I want to start off with the transitions that Eliza went through. She had made the most transitions of all the characters. Her first transition was going from a little girl to a young woman, when she falls in love with Joaquin. She gets carried away with the illusion of love, and falls head over heels for him. Her second transition was when Tao Chi en had made the decision to sneak her off the boat as a Chinese boy. They are well known for being rich, educated, and good looking. They are also famous for their cats and hand made rugs. Physical features: Persian women are said to be some of the most beautiful women in the world. They are famous for their exotic looking eyes. This good may not be viewed as a good action or any good by others, but for the doer of the action ( good ), the activity will be perceived as good and that it will bring a favorable outcome. In the end, Aristotle argues that [the best life or the happiest life is a life where the agent does everything or lives their life for the sole purpose of philosophical contemplation]5. He also wrote that a person must be fully intelligent, in order to live a life of happiness, since life is an activity of virtues. This excluded babies, because of their age they can t participate in the activity and it also excluded animals for the same reasoning. In the course of reading Nicomachean Ethics Book I, one of the problems I have encountered is the generalizations that Socrates makes about happiness. He says that the highest activity must be in accordance with the virtue. So these virtues are being defined as being virtues only if they lead to happiness. But what about virtues that exist but don t lead to happiness or maybe they can not be explained as leading to happiness. For example courage or justice. Somebody can be courageous naturally, then does this mean then they don t have a happy life? The second problem I have come across is that Aristotle said that in order to profit from the study he undertook, one must already have been brought up in good habits. Then he means that his audience must consist of people who already have retained virtues. This would very much limit the audience. It would not address people who have doubts or are not sure about the values of traditional virtues and have not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Theories And Principles Of Adult Learning Adult Learning Investigating and understanding the theories and principles underpinning adult learning has helped me to advance my thinking about this phenomena. For instance, Piaget s work involving the formal operational stage, according to Bass (2012) has allowed for the assumption that adults learn in a fixed manner developed in their late teen years and that they remain unchanged from this stage (p. 387). It was assumed that adults, then spent the rest of their lives in that stage. However, other theorist such as Knowles, surfaced during the 1970s to clarify the misconception. It is interesting to note that in the early 1970 s there was a spark of interest and debate over andragogy and the need to define theories within the field (Knowles, et al 2011). Knowles, et al. (2011) support the ideas that there are core principles of andragogy that will enable those designing and leading instruction for adults to be more effective in building learning processes. Additionally, andragogy is based on key assumptions which set it apart from pedagogy learning. Adults learning is usually tied to one of the assumptions of andragogy such as a learners their need to know. For example, this assumption encourages instructors to investigate ways to bridge the gap between the learner s current position and the goals of the instruction. Secondly, Knowles, et al. • 14. The Evil Character Of Iago Evil has been portrayed throughout time in many ways. In Christian theology, it has been shown through the character of Satan and his various sins. In Stephen King novels, it is portrayed through the imagery provided by monsters and humans with cruel intentions. All these characters, though different in many ways, all hold a similar trait, that they are aware of the evil nature and how they represent a different nature to seem a certain way to others. They may portray themselves as kind, caring, and honest when they are in fact, quite the opposite; cruel, dishonest and malevolent. They also all have the power to be destructive, even if they do not have a direct reason to, only their own desire to do so. While good is self producing and improving, evil is self destructive and can only create evil. Iago, as an evil character, holds many similarities to other wicked figures, and is sometimes seen as a satan like figure. Shakespeare uses the character of Iago to display the different forms evil can take on such as being hidden behind false intentions, turning into an image of good, and its destructive nature resulting into its own end. In the beginning of the play, Iago is seen by other characters as a wholesome character, often called Honest Iago due to his seemingly kind nature, though it is merely a mask his wickedness is hidden behind. Other symbolic attributes for a lion are strength, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority, dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity which I believe are all attributes displayed by Pericles in both his political and military career. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens. There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes. Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills. Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. AGI Goldratt Institute (n.d.) asks the question as to how can any generic solution have such a broad applicability? The success of the changes will depend on the ability of the managers to show their commitment to change and motivate the employees to do the same. Without any process to track the implementation, the change can also fail. Step 3 is to create a vision. Likewise, in her essay, Judith Ortiz Cofer tells of her struggles of being a Puerto Rican woman. Men sing songs to her, like La Bamba or Don t Cry For Me, Argentina, just because she is Hispanic. They think she is promiscuous based on the way that she dresses, but it is really just because it is hot in Puerto Rico. A prime example of this, not just of white people, but Donald Trump supporters, in an ad by Saturday Night Live, portrays white Trump supporters as Ku Klux Klan members, burning books in the fireplace, painting White Power on the side of a house and many more offensive scenes. This overview will show us a pattern of human failings and God s plan of redemption. CREATION In the beginning was God, God creates the universe, he creates Adam and Eve and institutes marriage . Satan tempts Adam and Eve, who then falls into sin, for the wages of sin is death. The Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife to wear and graciously pronounced upon all creation a curse for which he has provided the cure. God promises to give Abraham his own land and to make him a father of a great nation through his descendants. His wife Sarah was also old and had always been barren. However God insisted that Sarah would bear a son to Abraham and his name would be Isaac. Through the promise and power of God, Isaac was indeed born to them. The inimitability of Zespri s trademark and the promotion of a unique brand create sustainable competitive advantage for the company. Non Substitutability: To compete with Zespri, competitors are cultivating their own types of kiwifruit, which is different from Zespri s types of kiwi, such as red flesh kiwifruit. What s more, the competitors in Italy and Chile are competing with New Zealand. These competitors supply cheaper kiwifruit than Zespri. He was known for writing novels, essays, critical commentary, autobiographies, poems, short stories, and he was also a diarist ( World 2075). He would write about what he was going through of something based on what he believed. C.S. Lewis was a great author because he wrote from the heart and about things that impacted him the most. C.S. Lewis had a challenging childhood, but I believe that helped shape him as an author and a person. He was born on November twenty ninth, eighteen ninety eight in Belfast, Ireland (MacNee 252). His Father was a solicitor and his mother was a daughter of a clergyman (MacNee 252). Lewis s mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was only nine years old (MacNee 252). After his mother s death, his father distanced away from C.S. Lewis and his older brother, Warren... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lewis wrote quite a few books and letters, but you probably know him best for writing the Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis said that he believed that his imaginative self inspired the series (MacNee 255). Many people told Lewis not to write the Narnia series because it would ruin his reputation, but he wrote the children s book anyway (Imbornoni 2). Throughout the series there are many biblical references which makes sense because Lewis believed in the bible. One of the references he put in there was Aslan (a lion) which represented God. Another success of C.S. Lewis was The Screwtape Letters. They were his first Christian success (MacNee 255). In an interview in 1963 he said that the Screwtape letters was the only one of all his books that he didn t enjoy writing (Mancini 2). He said he found the book dry and gritty going (Mancini 2). This series is about notes from a senior devil to a junior tempter (MacNee 255). Lewis even considered making a companion novel from the perspective of an angel but his standards were high so he didn t pursue it (Mancini ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
