Paulo Coelho is a famous author that has written many popular works in these past
few decades. He is most notably known for The Alchemist, which was written in

As a non indigenous student, I want future generations to understand that the fact
that you do not live on a reserve, does not mean you cannot embrace your own
Indigeneity, connect to your place and ancestry, and put effort into learning about
your ancestral roots. I was feeling frustrated that I did not have that connection to
my ancestors, that I did not know their struggles, their stories, let alone their names.
For this embodiment project I expanded my knowledge of my own personal
genealogy and developed a deep sense of appreciation for archival records, census
forms, and any record at all, of life in the eighteenth century and beyond. Throughout
this ongoing project, the four R s (Reciprocity, respect, responsibility, and relevance)
It was then that all of the discussions that were had in my Indigenous class with
Margo Tamez, and everything I had been taught about Indigenous history came
flooding back to me. I knew deep down that it was possible, but it seemed hard to
believe that my chances at finding out more information about my genealogy were
growing more and more slim. The realization that my history has been impeded on
is frustrating, and I know I cannot justify this feeling because I am white.
Whiteness is a state of unconsciousness. Whiteness is often invisible to white
people, and this perpetuates a lack of knowledge or understanding of difference,
which, according to bell hooks, is a root cause of oppression (hooks, 1994).
Knowing your genealogy is a human RIGHT. It is not a privilege that I have luckily
been awarded because I am white. It is a complete violation of the rights of
Indigenous peoples and this cannot continue. The biggest issue that I try to unpack
in my embodiment project is in relation to what I am calling colonized sources . I

such as the eyes and beard and are not carved as well as the Sphinx in Las Vegas .

catches the eye more than any other sphinx, because of its location and structure.
The two structures were very well built, however due to the fact that the Sphinx in
Las Vegas was built just a few years back , it gave the designers the chance to make
the new structure more modern and appealing. They used the old structure of the
Sphinx in Giza to create a more modernized copy of the old one. One of the major
differences I notice about the two structure is the color and line. The new object
has more carvings in the face and body. You notice a shine to the Sphinx in Las
Vegas, the colors and perfect carvings of the face and paws make it a perfect

South Africans had been living under the system of apartheid since 1948 where
citizens were divided by race and kept separate through certain system of laws
which governed all aspects of daily life. Even though black people were in majority
they were denied the right to vote in National elections. The educational system was
designed not to educate young blacks into professionals but to prepare them to serve
white upper class. Apartheid went further to divide the schools into racial groups
therefore the white schools were so advantaged within resources compared to the
black schools within the town of Soweto. Government also insisted that the Afrikaans
language be used as the medium in all local schools which created enormous distress
amongst black students. Many divisions between black and white took place in
society. The black people found themselves infuriated by the fact that they were
slaves in their own country of birth.
It was back in 1962 that Nelson Mandela that the leader of the anti apartheid
movement was arrested and his political party the African National Congress were
banned by Government. The African National Congress then chose to ignore

government had to use brutal action against the anti apartheid command which
