1. Microeconomic Essay Topics
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Microeconomic Essay Topics" can present its own set of
challenges. Microeconomics delves into the intricacies of individual economic agents, examining
their behaviors, decisions, and interactions within the market. While the topic offers a wealth of
potential ideas, the difficulty lies in selecting a specific aspect to explore and presenting it
coherently.
Firstly, delving into microeconomic concepts requires a solid understanding of economic theories
and principles. It involves a nuanced exploration of supply and demand, market structures,
consumer behavior, and the impact of government interventions. Navigating through these
complex ideas demands a comprehensive grasp of the subject matter.
Another challenge is finding a unique angle or question to address within the chosen
microeconomic topic. With countless essays already written on various aspects of
microeconomics, crafting an original and engaging argument can be demanding. It necessitates
creativity and critical thinking to offer a fresh perspective or contribute a novel analysis.
Moreover, effective communication is crucial. Expressing complex economic ideas in a clear and
concise manner is a skill that requires practice and refinement. Ensuring that the essay is well-
structured, logically organized, and free of jargon that might confuse the reader is an additional
layer of difficulty.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Microeconomic Essay Topics" demands a combination of a
strong foundational understanding of microeconomic principles, the ability to identify unique
angles, and effective communication skills. Overcoming these challenges can result in a
compelling and insightful essay.

3. Why Canadian Prohibition Failed
Canada experimented with banning alcohol during the early 20th century. The
movement grew out of the earlier Temperance Movement, which steadily grew in
popularity during the mind 19th century. There are four reasons why prohibition
ultimately failed in Canada: (1) it was not really enforced; (2) it was not truly
effective; (3) a shift in popular thought; (4) and loss of public support. (Idea of
Provinces + order) In the end, the government would change its stance from one of
illegality to control and regulation. In order to truly understand Canadian prohibition
the prior temperance movementmust be examined. During the 19th century, alcohol
was seen as a great evil (citation needed). This evil harmed the family unit and
society. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This motive was to follow into Canada s age of prohibition, thus it is important to
mention why the CTA failed. After the CTA was passed alcohol transactions
reduced very little (Citation Warsh). The Royal Commission on the Effects of the
Liquor Traffic in 1895 noted that: The Scott Act [the CTA], although in force over a
large portion of the Province [New Brunswick], is in reality not enforced in most of
the countries, and... in almost every part of the province [New Brunswick] a
plentiful supply is to be had by those who desire to get it.(Citation on 145)
Meaning, that something must have been going on in New Brunswick for there to
be such blatant disregard for the law, but what was it? Well, in the city of
Moncton, New Brunswick there is a good example of the problem like minded law
enforcement and crooked bureaucrats. The city of Moncton used the CTA to issue
prohibitory law concerning alcohol in 1879. At this time, like elsewhere in New
Brunswick, liquor trade was still inexistence. In Moncton s case, though the
bureaucrats were accused of allowing the trade to occur so that they could make
money, for the city and maybe for themselves, off the fines for liquor violations.
This came to a head in 1881 when a bootlegger was fined based off the cities
prohibition law. The bootlegger, eventually, petitioned New Brunswick s Supreme
Court. They reversed the city court s ruling based on a technicality. They had a
quarrel with the date the
4. Sporting Mega Analysis
The sporting mega events that were chosen for our analysis was the Summer and
Winter Olympics, the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games. These 3 events
are the largest mega events in the world, and are excellent representations of
sporting mega events as a whole. We wanted to go as far back as our data indexes
allowed us to go, which was the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, so we made
that our starting point. Our goal was to look at all of the bids made for the mega
events, and look at a selection of variables influence on their chances of winning.
We used data from the year the countries hosted the events (excluding the data used
for future events) in order to go as far back as the indexes would allow us. All
together we were able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For every observation for events that have not yet occurred such as future
Olympics and World Cup s that has finished the bidding process and selected a
host, we had to extrapolate the data from 2016 the best we could. Additionally, for
the Freedom of Press ranking, it only went back to 2002, so we had to use the data
for 2002 in order to fill in the events that occurred from 1996 2001. Both of these
could affect the legitimacy of this study in the future, but for all extrapolations we
doubt they will be that much different from our figures.
Independent variables and the tendencies in their descriptive statistics were examined
first. Then, we performed a binary logistic regression to assess the combined effects
of the independent variables on bid success, and determine what factors are
ultimately the most influential on mega event bidding success. We decided to split
the descriptive statistics and logistic regression to two separate time periods using
the year 2008 as our

Portraying the sublime evolved as industrialization speed up manufacturing. Adams
aimed for a wider audience, as he believed only when the public sees the beauty of
the wilderness would they understand why conservation mattered. Adams understood
the photographer could play a vital role, rousing awareness and inciting action. He
saw this as his personal mission (Spaulding, 1995, pp. 217 218). This was evident in
Adams iconic partnership with Nancy Newhall and in their book, This Is the
American Earth published in 1960. Theirs was the quintessential book, bringing
conservation philosophy and naturephotographyto coffee tables across the nation

In 1963, Porter shared his trip down the Colorado River to capture what would be
lost if technological hubris prevailed. The Place No One Knew portrayed fragments
of the canyon rather than broad sweeping scenic landscapes. Many criticized the
book for too many close up and abstract images that contrasted light and dark features
of the canyon even though it did convey the hidden beauty of the canyon. Although
costly, $25, The Place No One Knew was a large format book with color images and
elegant craftsmanship of typographer and lithographer. One reviewer commented, the
book needed to be so large and to contain such high quality prints and exquisite
typography. By buying the book, particularly given its expensive price, Americans
could gain atonement; through consumption, they could help pay for the sins of the
nation (Dunaway, 2005, p. 181). Critics claimed Porter s photos demonstrated a
duality between portraying the aesthetics of nature with scientific understanding for
what is at stake. The Sierra Club continued work to protect the Colorado River along
with advocating protection for other natural resources. They published more books
communicating the struggles between progress and protection and this style of
photography, I argue, lives on in contemporary works (see Ch.
6. Business Board of Directors
2) Non executive directors are members of a business s board of directors, but are
not part of the executive side of things. A non executive director normally doesn t
participate in the day to day management of the business, but offer general guidance
and a different perception on current problems of the business. The board often seek
their contribution on particular issues like policy making and planning exercises as
they are independent and will provide an impartial view. They are appointed on their
wide experience, specialist knowledge and personal qualities, so that they can carry
out four principal roles:
1.Strategy
2.Performance
3.Risk
4.People (Remuneration)
Non executive directors (NEDS) have a duty to advise, criticise and help the
development of strategy. As outsiders to the company the NEDS have a more
impartial view of external factors disturbing the business s performance than the
executives on the board. This will allow them to provide an educated contribution to
strategy and act as a constructive critic in observing the aims and strategies created by
the management team.
Another key role for NEDS is that they should examine the performance of
management in meeting targets that have been agreed before, checking the progress
made towards achieving the objective. It is up to NEDS to inquire repeatedly and
ask questions of management, particularly where they have worries on the
performance of the company. They are also responsible for determining the proper

7.1 Summary of Results
This section summarizes the results of all the statistical tests that have been
performed by this study. The correlation analysis was performed between the primary
variable of FEP Cost % and the Cost Performance, Schedule Performance, Change
Cost % and Schedule Change %. The results show that there was a positive
correlation between the effort allocated to Front End Planning and the cost
performance of the project in DB system, Complex projects and Renovation
projects. The schedule performance was affected positively by the FEP effort only
in projects delivered using CMR system. In general, there was an observable trend of
negative correlation between the FEP effort and the change costs that occurred in a
project. For this test, the statistical evidence was more significant in the case of DB
system, both Simple and Complex projects and New projects. Increase in FEP effort
reduced the schedule changes in projects only in the case of Renovation.
The following table summarized the results of the correlation analysis with the
corresponding p values. A positive value for Spearman s ПЃ suggests positive
correlation and a negative value suggests the inverse correlation. P values that are
less than 0.05 are considered significant at the 95% confidence level

8. The Greatest Man Of All
The Greatest Man of All
Shrdlu slaughters his mother with a carving knife. Outwardly, this murderer lacks
any justification or reason to kill. He is admonished by society. His peers find him
irredeemable and sentence him to death. Even Shrdlu himself believes that he is
doomed to suffer the scorching flames of hell. Despite committing matricide, Shrdlu
is a proper gentleman. He treats strangers with consideration, sharing both cigarettes
and wisdom. He is prepared to accept any punishment and is desperate to reconcile
with his deceased mother. By numerous measures, Shrdlu is more mindful, more
compassionate, and more human than any other character depicted in The Adding
Machine. In truth, he is a victim of circumstance, imprisoned and forced to commit an
act of violence. As an expressionist character allegory, Shrdlu embodies the natural
and virtuous condition of the human spirit; he endeavors unconsciously to free
himself from subjugation.
Shrdlu endures a grueling condition of slavery. He lives inseparable from his mother,
proofreading shoe catalogs for thirteen years (Rice, 76) during his adult life.
Remembering his mother, Shrdlu recalls that she taught me to be thrifty, to be
devout, to be unselfish, to shun evil companions, and to shut my ears to all of the
temptations of the flesh in short, to become a virtuous, respectable, and God fearing
man (Rice, 73). During the weekends, Shrdlu attends the morning, afternoon, and
evening [church] service (Rice, 76)
9. Differences Between Fashion And Fashion
The history of clothing dates back from the beginning of the human race, which is
around 4026 B.C. You may wonder, what s the difference between fashion and
clothing? Clothing is just something to cover the body, but fashion is so much more.
Fashion represents an individual and can be a beautiful piece of art. Fashionchanges
with society and is usually a very popular trend that many people at a time follow.
For this reason, the art of fashion diffused in Europe in 400 C.E. Before 400 C.E.
Western Europe was under Barbarian control, consequently, Eastern Europe and
parts of Asia flourished in fashion. Dress in the Byzantium Empire (what is now
Istanbul, Turkey) was a blend of Roman and Eastern Asian styles. The Eastern Asian
style contributed many elaborate ornaments and silk. This diffused into Rome
through the new fashion trends relating to embroidery and woven designs found in
short tunics and elaborate outer garments. These styles of the Byzantine court
continued to influence all the courts of Western Europe from about 400 to 900 C.E.
up until the European economy began to recover, and Western Europe gained
independence from previous Barbarian control. In this span of 500 years, the
development of fashion in Europe was somewhat obscure. This was because 400 to
900 C.E. was know as the dark ages, after the fall of the Roman Empire. We ll skim
over the dark ages, since men and women s fashion remained pretty basic and
constant throughout that time. Women s and men s
10. Conformity In The Crucible And The Yellow Wallpaper
The arousal and provocation of my thoughts and emotions have occurred in many
instances, while discussing the literature provided this year. The pieces of literature
that have aroused my thoughts, and expanded my sympathies after reading have
been The Crucible , The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Yellow
Wallpaper. Each of these pieces have had the largest impact on me while provoking
the idea of conformity on characters in each piece. These three literary works have
conveyed a large stress on conformity during the time period when the novel or short
story has taken place and shows how that era put pressure on those characters to
conform to a certain situation, just as society today pressures us to conform to
situations. They have each incited my thoughts differently and similarly in numerous
ways after reading. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introdution:
The flame test is used to help miners, geologists, and chemists identify the presence
of chemical elements. They can be used to distnguish unknown metallic and metalloid

12. Turning Point Theory In Relationship
A relationship is developed as a series of events that are accompanied by positive or
negative events in relationship commitment. The Turning Point is one of the models
that tries to explain, steps by step, the ways communication contributes to a
relationship development and prolongation. This model was created in 1986 by
Baxter and Bullis who said that Turning Points referred to any event that is associated
with a change in a relationship. It is a nonlinear model that best captures the fact that
relationship development can be bidirectional; couples move both toward and away
from commitment over the course of their relationship. (Human Communication in
Society, 4th Edition, Jess K. Alberts, Thomas K. Nakayama, Judith N. Martin) The

As I said before, we got to spend very little physical time with each other, so the
little time we are physically side by side leads us to the sixth step which is passion
or the physical/emotional affection. We share our love when we are together. The
seventh step is disengagement that is ending the relationship. Through the year
and a half, we have been dating we have broken up a couple of times, this is due to
the fact that our relationship is ten times more difficult than a normal one. We
sometimes feel the emptiness that distance causes in our relationship and this is
something that we can t avoid or eliminate living six hours away from each other.
This is related to the tenth step that is negative physic change , when we realized
the negative outlook or the negative part of our relationship which made us fall
apart. We only got to spend a couple of days apart from each other and these two
days helped us realize that we really loved each other and we both wanted to be
together, fighting to improve our relationship leading us to the eighth step positive
physic change . By breaking up we acquired a more positive outlook on the other
one, we realized that even if our relationship is harder than normal, our relationship
is also stronger than the other ones. Due to the positive physic change we decided to
get back together after our break up, and make up which is the eleventh

MAKING CAPITAL INVESTMENT DECISIONS

1.In this context, an opportunity cost refers to the value of an asset or other input

6.Management s discretion to set the firm s capital structure is applicable at the firm
level. Since any one particular project could be financed entirely with equity, another
project could be financed with debt, and the firm s overall capital structure would
remain unchanged, financing costs are not relevant in the analysis of a project s
incremental cash flows according to the stand alone principle.
7.The EAC approach is appropriate when comparing mutually exclusive projects
with different lives that will be replaced when they wear out. This type of analysis
is necessary so that the projects have a common life span over which they can be
compared. For example, if one project has a three year life and the other has a five
year life, then a 15 year horizon is the minimum necessary to place the two projects
on an equal footing, implying that one project will be repeated five times and the
other will be repeated three times. Note the shortest common life may be quite long
when there are more than two alternatives and/or the individual project lives are
relatively long. Assuming this type of analysis is valid implies that the project cash
flows remain the same over the common life, thus ignoring the possible effects of,
among other things: (1) inflation, (2) changing economic conditions, (3) the
increasing unreliability of cash flow estimates that occur far into the future, and (4)
the possible effects of future technology improvement that could
14. Examples Of The Narrator In Poisonwood Bible
Narrator Analysis In Barbara Kingsolver s novel, Poisonwood Bible, she used the
transition between narrators which shed light on the perspective of each member of
the Price family. The Price family ventures from Georgia to the Congo led by their
father, a Baptist Minister. Throughout their journey each narrator dramatically
changes. The families influence on the Congo is parallel to western influence in the
Congo.
Father to the Price family, Nathan Price emerged his family into this mission in the
hopes to spread religion to Congo. He chose to endanger his family in the hopes
that he would be able to affect the religion of everyone he influenced. Similar to
Rachel, Nathan also represents western ideals influencing Congo. Nathan believed
that an education for women was a waste. Sending a girl to college is like pouring
water in your shoes. [...] It s hard to say which is worse, seeing it run out and waste
the water, or seeing it hold in and wreck the shoes. This proves that Nathan Price
was sexism towards his family was driven by his belief of Christianity. Throughout
the book Nathan represents the Christianity in America in the sixties.
Wife to Nathan Price, Orleanna Price was a character that changed the most
throughout the book. Orleanna began their mission to Congo under Nathan. Nathan
or Christianity in the sixties, proved to favor the man yet shamed women. This was a
significant reason why Orleanna had no opinion when going to Congo. After the

18. White Noise By Don Delillo
Literature of the eighties reflects a general atmosphere of fear at the time fear of the
unfamiliar, of death and disease. Outside of the books from that era, we can see
where in American society this fear came from, how it weaved around what was
alien and strangled it. We can retrospectively watch as it manifests itself in the roots
of the AIDS epidemic, an outbreak of disease that took tens of thousands of lives
because its origins were unknown, and it affected those who were different from the
majority, those who the majority could not understand. These thematic nuances the
unknown, the unfamiliar, the fear of these things repeatedly emerge in eighties texts.
Whether it be novels, plays or short stories, the strange, the diseased, the dead and the
terror of a combination of these things is strikingly evident. White Noise by Don
DeLillo, for example, provides its audience with a depiction of a landscape of fear
in the eighties. It reflects how the average American felt about impending doom,
about society and the changes in society that were unknown to them. It provides a
basis of understanding why later, when AIDS decimated almost an entire portion of
a society, these average Americans abandoned their sick friends, family members or
neighbors. Angels in America, a play by Tony Kushner, shows how this fear
influenced the others, people made alien by their disease or sexual orientation.
Kushner s play brings to light how othering, the process of making someone separate

bitter American journalist who had made an abrupt break with his past and is
riding into Mexico to join Pancho Villa #8217;s revolutionary army. Clues suggest
that if this man were ever named he would prove to be Ambrose Bierce, an
American journalist, who vanished from the United States into Mexico during
1913. In the end of this story, he is killed by Tomas Arroyo and is taken back into
the U.S. to be buried in Miss Harriet #8217;s father #8217;s empty grave in

20. Public School Funding For Public Schools
Most people believe that students do better in well funded schools and that public
education should provide a level playing field for children. Nearly half of the
funding for public schools in the United States, however, is provided through local
taxes, generating large differences in funding between wealthy and impoverished
communities (National Center for Education Statistics, 2000a). Efforts to reduce
these disparities have provoked controversy and resistance. Public school funding
the United States comes from federal, state, and local sources, but because nearly
half of those funds come from local property taxes, the system generates large
funding differences between wealthy and impoverished communities. Such
differences exist among states, among school districts within each state, and even
among schools within specific districts. In 1998, for example, the state with the
highest average level of public school funding was New Jersey, with an annual
funding rate of $8,801 per student, whereas the state with the lowest average level
was Utah, with a yearly rate of $3,804 per student. This means that the typical
student attending a public school in New Jersey was provided more than twice the
fiscal resources allocated to his or her counterpart in Utah. Disparities in per student
funding levels are actually greater within some states than among states as a group.
To illustrate, in 1998, public school districts in Alaska that were ranked at the 95th
percentile for per student
21. Clockwork Orange Analysis
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess takes up many themes throughout the
novel. It is known for its candor with violence and its expressive nature regarding
it. The novel is narrated by Alex, a fifteen year old boy, who tells the story of his
ultra violent acts and journey through reformation by the state. Alex belongs to a
violent subculture created by teenagers and lurks the night with his droogs (gang
members) in effort to rape, steal, assault, and abuse drugs. In the novel, Burgess
argues that the existence of good and evil cannot be modified through force and
deprivation of free will, using imagery, metaphors, and satirical devices of
communism, youth, and other elements to support his claim. The very first scene
in the novel portrays Alex and his droogs in a milk bar getting ready for the night s
violent activities. In this dystopian future, it is common for teenagers to drink milk
and is seen as the drink of choice for them. This milk can be what is called milkplus
and include amphetamine and hallucinogenic like drugs which the boys rely on to
prepare them for ultraviolence. Taking a look at milk symbolically, it represents the
mother and the infant. Milk is the drink given to a young and innocent child by a
loving mother. In fact, teenagers are the only characters seen drinking milk in the
novel. Adults tend to drink scotch, or alcohol in general. This separates the young
from the old, or the violent from the nonviolent. On top of this, the milk represents

Introduction To begin, this is my worldview and how I view the world. I do not
believe in labels because it hinders a person from their full capability. I do believe
in the understanding a person not just by their appearance but by who they are
personally and behavior. Anyone can appear appealing and charismatic, but only a
true follower of Christ has like a special glow about them, which is rare in my world.
I have learned that it does not matter what denomination, ethnicity or upbringing a
person comes from as long as they know The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus has done
miraculous things in the past and in the present. Since I am on this Earth until I
either die an earthly death or Jesus comes back, I try to live my life to the fullest....

from the world around us, which fall in hand of how we know what is right and

human history but the Bible and finally I am a person who is from a small town
who s believes that Jesus is the answer to everything in life. Since research shows,
the ethical dilemma of, human trafficking is tough and it is journey no one needs
to take. If a person is or was once involved in sex trafficking they will never make a
full recovery and it is a harsh and tragic thing to hear. A person is more likely to be
involved with drug, alcohol, and domestic abuse for it is all they know. But with
Jesus Christ, He is at the center of my world and I hope others. I think He can shine

The main issue that we find in the managing choice of the IOC is the hegemony of
power enforced by the main investors. Some people may rile against the
commercialization or Americanization of the Olympics but figures show that the
dollars from the US is critical for the sustenance of the Olympic movement.
Besides TV, the IOC s another major stream of income is private partnership. (
D.Jones 2012) On the NBC side, it was a very smart move that took place a while
ago during the cold war, when USA used the Olympics to prove the supremacy
over the USSR. It s not only about broadcasting the games in their own country, but
also getting the visibility globally as the main protagonists of the global event. All
this income from the US for the committee is vital to keep the games happening,
the big problem now days is that the structure of the Olympics is entirely based on
big companies paying the bills for the massive costs that have to be covered to
organize, manage and built facilities and events for the games. So from a IOC s
managing perspective the choice of keeping happy major investors makes sense
and it wouldn t be so criticized if it was a little less against the Olympic spirit.
Athletes being forced to race at early morning hours by McDonald s, Coca Cola s
etc ads is not really what the spirit of the event should be. But to make everything
happen, someone has to pay for everything that we see during races, competition,
games and ceremonies. The

ENGINEERING MANUFACTURER Introduction: EngCo Company manufactures
components for the oil and gas industry. It is a cross discipline engineering
company, which combines electrical, mechanical and process engineering skills.
The purpose of the company is to produce custom made components for large gas
and oil companies across the globe. The company needs a design to set up their
data network. A report is needed to be written where the options for setting up their
network will be outlined, including details of how all services will be provided.
Task 1: Physical Topology Diagram a)Chosen Topology:Network topologies are
categorized into the following basic types: 1.Bus Topology 2.Star Topology 3.Ring
Topology 4.Mesh Topology Among them Star Topology is more suitable for this
network. b)Explanation of Choosing Star Topology: In Bus Topologyall computers
are attached to a single cable. So if any of the connection breaks down, the entire
network breaks down with it. It is difficult to move and change since they are all link
up together. It s difficult to troubleshoot (justfortest.tripod.com, n.d.). In Ring
topology, Data moves in a one way path only. It is expensive because multiple cables
area needed and difficult to reconfigure. Simply not fault tolerant because a single
cable fault can bring down the whole network (justfortest.tripod.com, n.d.). In Star
Topology, each computer is connected to a central point from a dedicated cable. The

In line 6 the writer gives us an image in the phrase the snake slides away. Here the
writer describes the wonderful movement of a snake that can make you carious to
know how it is created. Furthermore in the same line the speaker give us a simile
when she describes the jumping of a fish like a little lily which is type of plant that
grows from a bulb and that has large white or coloured flowers .( Oxford dictionary
2006)The writer also gives us another great image of nature :The gold finches sing
from the unreachable top of the tree . Here unreachable top of the tree is connected
to the first line of the poem where there are things you can t reach even if you want
to like the gold finches who sing from a far place. In line 7 the writer invites us to
look at nature by saying I look and then saying morning to night where she means
she looks at nature all day long without feeling bored or done with looking. In line
8 the writer tells us that in line 7 when she said looking she didn t mean just
standing around in nature, but standing around as though with your arms open
.Here I think the writer means that your mind should be open and think about what
god created .In line 9 the poet extends this idea by saying that when you stand
around with your mind open and working, maybe something will come to you, for
example, a shining coil of wind. Maybe she means some air which will give you an
energetic spirit. Moreover when Oliver says few
26. Why Is Fighting In Hockey Wrong
Fighting in Hockey: Wrong, or Right?
Ice hockey is a full contact sport played by individuals skating on ice, carrying sticks
to push a vulcanized rubber puck around the ice in an attempt to shoot the puck into
an opposing teams net to score goals. Tempers flare consequently fights break out
between players battling one another for supremacy on the ice. Fighting in the game
of ice hockey has been a part of the game since the inception of the National Hockey
League, known as the NHL, in 1917. Fighting is officially prohibited, but it is an
unofficially condoned part of professional hockey, in current professional hockey
leagues a player engaged in a fight will serve a five to ten minute penalty for fighting.

There comes into question the moral code that fighting in hockey brings about,
what kind of example is being presented to the public and children in general?
There is a discussion that these continued displays of violence send a message to
the public that contradicts many values that are instilled from a young age. Author
Charles Gillis, argues that punching another person is no way to resolve frustration.
He goes on to question why is it thought reasonable in hockey and more to the
point, is fighting not antithetical to the concept of athletic competition (51)?
Children see the glorified aspect of fighting in hockey, consequently they do not
always recognize the negative impact it has in other areas of their life. [In the game
of hockey and life] what are rules and officials for, if not to prevent players from
taking justice into their own hands? Why should they serve this purpose in other
contact sports, but not hockey (Gillis 51)? Opponents to fighting in hockey believe
the violence in ice hockey is unnecessary and wrong.
Antagonists of fighting in hockey believe it is wrong for the reason that there is no
correlation between fighting and winning games. A research project done in the
NHL, looking at 4,240 NHL game summaries from five consecutive seasons were
examined to determine the outcome of team s overall standings at the end of a
season while looking at the number of fighting penalty minutes served, and the
number of goals scored by the teams. The findings, published in the Perceptual and

violence from their target. Specific definitions, freedoms, and limitations of fighting
words vary by jurisdiction. It is also used in a general sense of words that when
uttered tend to create a verbal or physical confrontation by their mere usage.
In Canada, freedom of speech is generally protected under Section 2 of Canadian

because of the limitation to race /religion /sex based fighting words. The Court,
however, made it repeatedly clear that the City could have pursued any number of
other avenues, and reaffirmed the notion that fighting words could be properly

Introduction Section The study was conducted because there were very few
studies in the past about violent video games affecting prosocial behavior Also
because since there s a positive correlation between aggressive behavior, they want
to know if there s a negative correlation between violent video games and prosocial
behavior. They did research on previous studies that linked violent video games
with aggressive behavior and mindset. They also looked at previous studies testing
if violent video games affect helpful behavior. These experiments either had
unreported results or showed no difference in behavior. The researchers thought
they could do a better experiment and prove that violent video games have a
negative effect on positive behavior. The hypothesis was the participants who
played the extra violent video games will be less charitable and assigned more
difficult puzzles to other, while the ones who played the non violent video games
will be the opposite. Method Sections There were 120 participants. They were first

31. Summary Of Iris Young s Five Faces Of Oppression
Women face two key forms of oppression in this world, powerlessness and
exploitation. These two forms fall into Iris M. Young s ideas of oppression in her
article Five Faces of Oppression . The definition of cultural imperialism and
exploitation used in this essay are taken from Young s essay. Cultural imperialism
is where the dominant customs and morals of a society are rendered as the norm
and those who are not in the norm are considered others. Exploitation is a form of
oppression where a class structure is present and this class structure includes a
dominant group of people who are in power of a subordinate group. Two authors,
John Stuart Milland Simone de Beauvoir, talk about how the oppression of women is
not due to nature. It is rather, in Mill s view, due to a premodern law of force which
divides men and women between the strong and the weak. Beauvoir sees this
oppression of women as a result from socialization, which conformed women to
become immanent. Both these authors have reasonable arguments and have a similar
understanding that the inferiority of women is not from the simple nature of being
women. Other factors come into play when understanding why women are
oppressed, and both authors recognize the fact that society and old habits must
change for the equality of women and men to become a reality. The past history of
subjection towards women by accounts of nature is one of the reasons that women
are still oppressed today. John Stuart Mill in his writing
32. Persuasive Essay On Eternal Life
The word immortal is hardly heard by one another unless speaking about a fiction
movie or character. Immortal or immortality is defined as, eternal life or the ability to
live forever. In the film, The Immoratalist, directed by David Alvarado and Jason
Sussberg conduct a documentary. Containing two completely different individuals,
scientists, with the same goal and dream in mind, to find a way to prove that
immorality is possible and that it can be achieved in the next decades to come.
Although a very intriguing subject and amazing achievement to the humanrace if ever
discovered, I can not help to think, is immortalityas good as it sounds? The idea that
we can live for a longer or endless time is astonishing, but in reality that possibility
may not be as great as it sounds. If the people in the world had a method to become
immortal, the cost, population and ones mental health can be affected in a
negative way. As one become aware with age, the world unfortunately is moved by
money. The cost of everything in life is measured, and unless one is rich or
extremely well off, financial situations can always be an issue. Imagine how much
it is going to cost to find a method to become immortal, once discovered, like all
medicine, how much will it cost you to buy it and own it for yourself or a love one.
Modern medicine now in days is controlled federally and has become an enormously
business. With that being said who would be able to buy immortality? Surely not
everyone, only

Sharks are one of the most feared carnivores in the sea. There are 365 species of of

Some sharks crush their prey. Others take out small pieces off flesh from large fish.
Sharks also feed on dead or dying animals. Sharks have the reputation of attacking

Their bodies are also shaped somewhat like a torpedo to give them a more
streamlined affect in the in water. Yet, some types of sharks, the ocean dwellers
have a flat body similar to that of skates and rays. Sharks can travel with great
bursts of speed especially when attacking their prey or when excited. The fastest
swimming sharks have a moon shaped tail that provides extra power and durability
for swimming. Sharks don t have a swim bladder. This is what helps regulate depth
control. Sharks do not have this organ. Yet, they do have a oil organ that also acts as
a gas bladder. This oil is less dense than water and acts as a gas bladder.
A shark has multiple rows of teeth. The mouth of sharks is in the front of the head.
In some species, sharks teeth are replaced as much as once a week. Some sharks
have teeth used to crush and grind. These are some what like what humans have.
They also have sharp teeth. These can be compared to incisors that humans have.
These types of teeth are very important to sharks because they are carnivores and
depend on their teeth in order to eat their prey. A sharks body in covered by scales
which cover their bodies. These scales make the skin of a shark very rough and strong.
Sharks have a very different breathing system than most animals that live in or on this

Emaciated polar bear, what s to blame? this heart breaking photo about an
emaciated polar bear in artic was published by CNN in September 14th , 2015.
Possible causes for that bear is probably sickness or aging. However, a favorable
debate is that the global warming diminishes the natural habitat and food source.
This is not a new issue. Global climate change people try to control it. One of the
most powerful ways is to replace the limited amount of fossil fuel, coal, and oil with
clean energy. Among several kinds of clean energy, wind power

enormous impact on the environment and threat the existence of living species.
Specifically, renewable energy is unique type of energy that can t be exhausted and
be constantly renewed. This includes water, sunlight, geothermal heat, tides, and

Discuss the role of the Ratcatcher in this extract and elsewhere in the play.
The play Kindertransport written by Diane Samuels rotates immensely around the
Ratcatcher. The Ratcatcher s role in this extract and the whole play can be interpreted
in many ways.
The given extract begins with Helga reluctantly agreeing to read The Ratcatcher as a
bedtime story to Eva. The reasons for Helga s reluctance remain ambiguous as the
play proceeds with Helga reading the book simultaneous to Faith who is in a different

As the play proceeds the Ratcatcher also takes upon a number of different characters
such as the Nazi Border Official, the English Organiser, the Station Guard, etc. All of
these are portray threatening and patronising characters that stereotype her or simply
authoritative figures. This reflects the author s attempt to present to the reader the
different viewpoints of the society about the Jews and refugees such as Eva.
In addition another key factor which has a significant impact on the manner in
which the Ratcatcher s role can be interpreted is the language used to describe him
in the given extract. He is described as someone who hisses the aggressive words I
will find you. The use of the strong verb I will indicates a threatening and predatory
tone. A similarly threatening tone is used further into the play by an officer who
exclaims Sir! Sorry Sir indicating Eva to repeat after him. The stage directions also
state that the officer bodysearches Eva which reflect his threatening and patronising
character. The similar character of authority figures to the Ratcatcher suggests that
perhaps these figures are just the reality version of the Ratcatcher.
The Ratcatcher Music is one of the factors frequently referred to in the stage
directions of the play. Soon in the play it is evident that the music is often added into
the scene in which

it helps your understanding when you can better identify the main character. For
example, the story states, He pressed the trigger and there was a loud report
accompanied by the wail of his wives and children. He threw down the gun and
jumped into the barn and there lay the woman, very much shaken and frightened but
quite unhurt. He heaved a heavy sigh and went away with the gun. Okonkwo nearly
shoots his wife, but then displays worry for her which is contrary to his otherwise
vicious personality (pg 28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Okonkwo beats his wife during peace week. The text implies, And
when she returned he beat her very heavily. In his anger he had forgotten that it
was the Week of Peace. (pg 21) The Week of Peace is a time where everybody
resides with each other in peace. Okonkwo did not regard this and beat his wife. As
a result, he had to bring one she goat, one hen, a length of cloth and a hundred
cowries to the Shrine of Ani. The Week of Peace also signifies their culture which
Okonkwo did not consider to be important. This also shows that they have a structure
of law which brings another aspect to the plot of the

42. Erykah Badu s Song On And On
These poets/ songwriters for Erykah Badu s song On and On are Greg Kurstin and
Shaznay Lewis. Kurstin was born May 14, 1969 in Los Angeles, California. Lewis
was born 6 years later, October 14, 1975 in Islington, London, United Kingdom. If
you were to ask, yes, they do still happen to be alive. Greg Kurstin has been
nominated for grammy awards and golden globe awards Shaznay Lewis has a
history of singing herself not just song writing. This song vocalized/sung by
Erykah Badu on her album Baduizm, On and On was published, released in 1997.
This song is comprised of 9 food filled stanzas. And no, not the food you eat...food
for thought. There is not really a set pattern to these stanzas, though..considering the
fact it is still a song..there is kind of a set pattern. It uses repetition for the
following lines: If we were made in his image then call by our names, most
intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same..On and on and on and

43. A Natural History Of Rape Research Paper
Why is it so hard to talk about rape? Maybe it s because there are so many other
issues that come along with it. Like the fact that rape can happen to men, not just
women. Or if it s a biological act or even whether an abortion is okay if the woman
was raped. Rape can happen to anyone of any race, gender, or age. It can happen at
any time and when it does most people just assume that it should stay quiet. Yes,
the victim should get help but they can t be too open about it because they can be
judged. Maybe it s why it doesn t seem as common as it actually is. After being
raped a victim usually feels anger, fear, guilt, and shame which contributes to the
estimated 90% of cases that go unreported. Besides this the victim even blames
themselves. About 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have been victims of attempted or
completed rapein the United States. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the year 2000 a book called A Natural History of Rape was published. It argued
that rape is an evolutionary adaptation. An insect called the scorpion fly was
studied. They found that the males have a clamp on top of their abdomen believed
to be a specific adaptation for rape and reproduction, it is also believed that men
have an adaptation in the brain that drives them to rape. They claim that
evolutionary biology doesn t tell us what is morally right and wrong, people make
that distinction. So when it comes to rape whether it is right or wrong the point
was for reproduction. They state that recent research has shown that women prefer
men with status and resources. So when a male grows up in poverty and never does
better he is more inclined to rape. Along with this they state that reproduction isn t
the only reason for rape and that the rapist is motivated by different desires, as in
sexual stimulation. For example, seeing a woman dressed a certain way may cause
the man to be more attracted to a woman which may lead to
44. What Is the Inspectors Role in the Novel an Inspector...
What is the Inspectors role in the novel An Inspector Calls? The Inspector plays an
intriguing role in J.B Priestley s Inspector Calls. There are many different
interpretations of the Inspectors role in the play but in my opinion he represents
the author Priestley without the audience knowing until the end of the play. The
Inspector as a character is used to show Priestley s views of social and political
unjust of his time. Priestley does this by giving the inspector power to, question
each character in the same way socialism , question people in a higher in a way the
his not supposed to make most of the characters accept responsibility for the death
and for one another, makes each character have self neglect and by showing the...

When asked by Birling if he would like a drink the Inspector replies No thank you,
Mr Birling. I m on duty. This shows that the Inspector is very professional in his
business and cannot be influenced by exterior factors such as alcohol. At the start
of the play the social pecking order is determined by age and gender with Mr.
Birling coming out on top. However Priestley gets the audience to change their
opinions on who is in fact the superior member of the cast by using the Inspector as
a tool to change the focus by making each member of the vulnerable and placing a
great deal of responsibility upon each character. The order gets rearranged in the
reader s minds so that it is now based on morals with the younger generation
appearing to have taken on more responsibility unlike their elders. This
generational gap is another idea Priestley is hinting at suggesting that the older
generation are not open minded enough and are unwilling to change their views.
Eric and Sheila take responsibility for what the Inspector has told them where as
their parents fail to do so. Sheila stands up to the rest of the family and says
Everything we said had happened really happened. She is told to stop being silly by
Mr. Birling but the reader knows that she is speaking the truth and Mr. Birling just
can t accept it. His opinions on the events were The whole story s just a lot of
45. Disadvantages Faced By Aboriginal People
Introduction:
Smoking rates have halved in Australians over the past 30 years, falling below 16%.
Except for in Indigenous populations, smoking rates have remained at more than
twice this level, with even higher rates reported in remote communities (RACGP,
2013) The inequality that has been faced by Indigenous people is still at an
unacceptable level, and has been identified as a human rights concern by the United
Nations (Dick, 2007). Smoking is a major issue because, it is the most preventable
contributor to the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non Indigenous
peoples (Ivers, 2011). Smoking contributes to 17% of the life expectancy gap
(Australian Government: Department for Health and Welfare, 2011). The socio
economic disadvantage faced by Indigenous people leads to the addiction of
tobacco, which can be caused by many factors including; their position on the
social gradient, education, social exclusion, their employment status and their
social support. There is a lack of developed personal skills on the health risks of
tobacco, some Aboriginals don t identify smoking as a health issue (Korff, 2014),
due to the history of Aboriginal people around smoking. As well as first hand smoke,
passive smoking also contributes to poor health, especially for children. Smoking is
the major cause for heart disease, stroke, some cancers, lung diseases and a variety of
other conditions (HealthInfoNet.ecu.edu.au, 2013). If we could reduce tobacco
consumption levels
46. Human Communication Course Analysis
Being of this course I feel I learned a lot. The little I did know about human
communication I feel I have a lot more knowledge than I did before the course
started. I learned the foundations of communication, fundamentals of communication,
communication between two people, communication outside of only having just two
people such as multiple groups, communicationin specific contexts, communication
through technology, and the applications of communication.
Learning all of this will help me as well as be important in my future due to the
daily communication I have with others. Being a girl and having a lot of friends
that are girls could sometimes be a lot of drama so being able to effectively
communicate with my friends could be beneficial.
47. Lab Report On Hand Washing
Lab Report #1: Hand washing is it worth it?
Introduction:
This experiment illustrates the importance of handwashing and proves that hand
washing is worth it. Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with
ourselves and others, touching surfaces, grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc.,
keeping our hands clean is one of the most effective, yet simple way we can take to
avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are
spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water. The human
skin is a host to anywhere between 10,000 10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter
and since health care providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being
engaged in patient care, hand washing can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page
3). The objective of the experiment is to test the effectiveness of hand washing and
demonstrate normal flora. This report presents the procedures and materials for the
experiment, the experiment s results, and an analysis of those results.

Hester as an Imperfect Heroine
The Scarlet Letter, a story of Hester Prynne and her paramour, Reverend Dimmesdale,
and her malicious husband in pursuit for revenge, Roger Chillingworth. The novel
begins in the Puritan society in Boston, Massachusetts, during the 1640 s. The town
first ostracizes Hester because of their strong religious beliefs. Hester is then faced
with an immense struggle against the town and Roger Chillingworth. Through this
struggle she is developed into a heroine, or a woman admired for her courage,
achievements, or noble qualities; although she is not the perfect heroine because she
starts her journey at the lowest point in Puritan society, in sin. In Nathaniel Hawthorne
s The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne overcomes the Puritan community and Roger
Chillingworth to defy adversity and become a heroine whom everyone to admire.
Even though the Puritan society aims to discourage Hester, she finds a way to
display her pride and grace. To begin, Hester makes her way out of jail exhibiting
her dignity when appearing with the scarlet letter before the town: On the breast of
her gown, in fine red cloth surrounded with an elaborate embroidery and fantastic
flourishes of gold thread, appeared the letter A. It was so artistically done, and with
so much fertility and gorgeous luxuriance of fancy, that it had all the effect of a last
and fitting decoration to the apparel which she wore... (37).
49. Motivations For Beowulf
The epic of Beowulf, the most precious relic of Old English, and, indeed, of all
early Germanic literature... ( While reading Beowulf, many have a series of
questions throughout the epic poem. On of the many questions is about what
motivates the epic hero of the tale to danger his life. Beowulf lives in Geatland and
shows up in the land of the Danes and asks to fight a monster to help them. He ends
up fighting the monster s mother as well as a deadly dragon. What motivates Beowulf
to go after these three monsters? Beowulf goes after the monsters because of Anglo
Saxon codes, for vengeance, and fame. To begin, when Beowulf gets to the land of
the Danes he is only there because of his duty. In Anglo Saxon culture, if you were
able to do something to help someone else it was your... Show more content on

Beowulf knows he will be injured trying to kill the beast but wants to do it
anyways. Beowulf brings a whole group of warriors to come watch him kill the
dragon and help him if he becomes too injured to continue. Beowulf says this before
the fight, ...I will fight again, seek fame still... (626). He knows how difficult the
battle will be, he knows how old he is, yet he knows that he would protect his people
and gain fame from killing the monstrous beast. As Peter Leithart says about the
actions of Beowulf, The hero acts out of devotion to his lord or to his people, but
dragon acts out of malice. (Leithart). He says here that the reason that Beowulf goes
to kill the dragon is out of devotion to his people and to become more famous.
Beowulf makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his people. To conclude, Beowulf s
motivations are fame, obligation, and vengeance. Without the ideals of the Anglo
Saxon times, Beowulf would have almost no reason to fight Grendel. However,
because of the codes that they had in their culture, Beowulf was created to show
other people how to act and what to do about duty and
50. Oncology Provides A Hub Of Opportunity For Research
On...
Oncology provides a hub of opportunity for research on Patient Reported Outcomes
Measures (PROMs). Cancer patients experience many symptoms and losses of
functional ability which may not be measurable with tests or imaging procedures.
Osoba, 2011 states that it is necessary to rely on patients self reporting. In Oncology
there is a wide scope of clinical settings in which PROMs can be measured. This can
be adjuvant treatment or primary treatment with intent to cure or even palliative
treatment (Osoba, 2011).
Soreide and Soreide (2013) state the concepts of personalised medicine and targeted
therapy are at the forefront in the field of Oncology practice. It is now being used as
the centre of patient centred decision making based on ... Show more content on

Over the last few decades there has been an increase in survival rates which means
that patients are living longer with the late adverse effects of their cancer treatment
(Office for National Statistics, 2013). The long term effects can take their toll on the
patient s emotional, physical, psychological and social well being. Therefore it is
important that these issues are addressed in Oncology practice (Barker et al, 2009).
The EORTC QLQ C30 is a cancer specific measure of Health Related Quality of
Life (HRQOL) and one of the most widely used cancer questionnaires in
randomised trials. It consists of 30 items to assess such as physical, role, emotional,
cognitive and social functioning, global health status plus many more items (Howell
et al, 2015). HRQOL outcome measures have been an integral part of EORTC
clinical trials for the last 30 years (Smith et al, 2014).
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the UK accounting for
31% of all newly diagnosed cases of cancer (Office for National Statistics,2013)
and in 2011 around 49,900 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK
(Cancer Research UK) it is therefore a priority on the government health agenda.
(Davies et al, 2009).
