Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville
The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to
awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born, your
brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills the
clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledge is invaluable. Everyone
knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people unhappy,
distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the above
question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and the
supporting films: Fahrenheit 451 and Pleasantville.
Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The book
Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason
Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been
given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is pleasure, is, when
Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas
realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he determines that
releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, showing a shock, and
sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the examples illustrate that everyone
in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of everything, even colors. They don t even
know what is outside the town, so they claim it elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they
should not be informed of everything
The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is bliss.
The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide the nails
and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this quote justify
Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the intelligence, then
all the wisdom bearing materials

Seventy Year Old Minister Essay
My paper is based on the fact that a bomb has been dropped on a city and only ten people have made
it into the bomb shelter. While they are in there they discover that there is only enough food for seven
of them so three of them will have to go. I am speaking in the character of the armed policemen and I
have chosen to take out the Female Vocalist, The Famous Writer, and the Seventy year old minister. I
have chose them for certain reasons that I will explain in the next couple of paragraphs. The reason I
took out the Seventy year old minister is for one he is Seventy and the life expectancy for a man is
Seventy Five so therefore he can go because he will not be able to help repopulate for long. But he is a
Godly man so it would be good to keep him for the fact that he may teach the future generation for a
year or two but I am not to sure they would understand the word of God that fast. This man also is
possibly your weakest link so if you got into a situation he may not be helpful so that is another reason
why I would take him out. The basics to the minister are he has lived his life, he is old, he is weak, and
there is nothing he can really help with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I chose to take her out because she really does no good to the shelter. All her singing would really get
on my nerves and I do not know that I could deal with that. Also her defense was that she could sing to
the newborns but kids do not care who is singing to them as long as they are singing. The only thing I
can think of that she is good for is she could help repopulate the world. Also some singers have to
have something to drink every time they sing and there is not enough supplies for her to have
something to drink after every time that she sings. This is why I would take out the Female

Aryan Brotherhood Research Paper
The Aryan brotherhood originated in San Quentin prison in 1967. The brotherhood provided
protection for white individuals from black and Hispanic groups, specifically the Mexican Mafia. The
Aryan brotherhood was founded by white supremacists Thomas Silverstine, Barry Mills and Tyler
Bingham in 1964 at the San Quentin prison. The gang transformed into revenue when it began gaining
power. The basic beliefs of the Aryan Brotherhood is Pure white people are superior to people of other

Kennedy, John C. Lester and James R. Crowe, Richard Reed. These men decided to disguise
themselves in sheets and rode through their little town of Pulaski. Their rides were more like
mischievous deeds rather than violent; however, within a few months after its inception, it turned ugly
when whippings and killings of black people started to emerge. As quickly as it began, the KKK lost
its force just a few years later. A resurgence began in the 1920 s when William J. Simmons and two
publicists who were in a business together. The KKK core belief is to restore America back to being a
white Christian nation free from drugs, homosexuality, immigration and race mixing. Which the group
attributes to the country s downfall. Since the KKK is a hate group is would be considered dangerous
but since the KKK has no present what so ever in the prison system one would say the KKK is not
growing but is declining. In 2000 a prison officer who was answering to a disturbance in the cellblock
met the prisoners by calling them niggers and then threaten them by claiming he was down with the
Klan.
The Folks is an alliance of street gangs. Out of Chicago which as branched out specifically into the md
western states. In 1978 the gang was formed in Illinois Department of Corrections by Larry Hoover.
Unlike the Aryan Brotherhood and the KKK the Folks is mixes with whites, blacks and latino. Its
believes claims it is organized which in the growth and development, education, politics and social
development the folks have mo real presence in the prison system because the alliance with other

George Santayana And Transcendentalism
George Santayana was an influential 20th century American thinker. He was born is Spain in 1836 and
arrived with his family to the United States when a child. Santayana spent a substantial amount of his
time working at Harvard teaching in the department of philosophy. Santayana is often portrayed as a
realist, a materialist, and a naturalist. These entitlements accompany Santayana well with is his mature
philosophy. He was skeptical about religious matters and believed that the pervasiveness of religious
beliefs and faiths are of value of understanding but not accepting or practicing. Being a naturalist or
atheist, like Santayana, makes it is difficult to see eye to eye with the theory of Transcendentalism and
Calvinism. To begin to defend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either we share Emerson s intuition or we do not. Either we see the beauty of the whole or we do not.
And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the
logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may
emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in
regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson
thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural,
in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is
something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or
epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of
the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were
beginnings to a presented belief. In order to categorize one as such, Santayana describes the mind to
be distressed, and have other radical subjective criticism of knowledge. When these two ideas
disappeared, systems ceased to be sensibly understood. They became only sacred mysteries. Therefore
making the transcendental system seem especially

The Negative Effects Of The Media Affects Children
The media can manipulate the youth s ideas and thoughts and make them conform to the thoughts and
ideas to those of the advertisers. Assuming that the media does not care for the interest of the youth
,and children are susceptible to be manipulated because they have not fully formulated their own
opinions and ideas on certain subjects, therefore their premeditated conceptions are able to be changed
easily because they can be influenced. Thus, the media can negatively affect the youth and their
viewpoints on controversial issues, their minds are still young and forming, so they will believe
whatever people say without doing further research for themselves to know it is factual or not.
The media is not looking out for the best interest of the youth. Advertising in the media can bring
upon misinterpretation in a child s mind. Children are exposed to advertising all day, whether it is on
the television, their phone, or advertisements around the city the advertisers have strategies to
advertise their products to children (Barve G, Sood A, Nithya S, Virmani T). The media puts false
images or ideas in their minds making the children believe something that isn t true. The media does
not care how it affects the child, but they should. It affects the children negatively because it is not an
accurate depiction of what they are advertising. Furthermore, all the advertising indeed has some
effects on children because research has stated that young children (in an age group of 8

Several different tables may be defined and each table contains a number of built in chains that may
also contain user defined chains as well. Each chain is a list of rules which can match a set of packets.
Each rule specifies what to do with a packet that matches. This is called a target , which may be a
jump to a user defined chain in the same table. The first table is the default table if no other selection

the filter table and does not have the ability to alter any packets. The next table is called nat (network

packets create new connections. The last table is called mangle and is used for specialized packet

The Conflict Between Dinamo Zagreb And Red Star
Yugoslavia in the 20th century underwent great political turmoil, unrest, war, and ethnic conflicts.
Throughout the existence of this unstable nation, soccer was the most popular sport with the most
devout supporters. The sport and its various teams held strong ties to the political structure of
Yugoslavia, being run and controlled often by government institutions. It is for this reason that soccer
in Yugoslavia can serve as a political barometer to understand the underlying concerns, ideologies, and
conflicts that occurred in the country in the 20th century. Not does the sport mimic the political history
of the nation, it was often tied directly to political parties and ideologies. This essay will look into the
inception, rise, and eventual demise of Yugoslavia through the perspective of soccer and its role in all
of it. In particular, the focus will be on the most popular teams in present day Serbia, Red Star
Belgrade and FK Partizan and their rivalry, as well as the role of the Bosnian club Velez. Furthermore,
the clash between Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star will be shown as a catalyst for the following war of
independence. Some contrast to the division and antagonism will be shown by looking closely at the
Yugoslav national team following World War II.
Initially one must look to politically charged club teams in Yugoslavia, such as Red Star Belgrade and
FK Partizan. The history of these teams and their formation is important to consider. At the end of
World War II, most

The Deathly Hallows And The Book Vs Book
Harry Potter has lots of differences between the movies and books. Even if they may appear similar on
the surface, they are very dissimilar once you look beyond the outer similarities. The best movie/book
to contrast is the first movie of the deathly hallows and the book, mainly because it has the greatest
similarities between the book and the movies. The possible reason why the movie has the least amount
of major differences is because, It was split into two parts which allowed it to remain more loyal to the
original text. There are ten differences between them but there are some noticeable differences which
do not contract very much from the overall quality of the movie. The first difference is, that we see
Hermione oblivate her parents memories. Oblivate means to erase a person s memory using a magic
spell. At the beginning of the movie it starts with a touching series of vignettes showing Hermione,
Ron, and, Harry preparing for their journey, and this is only described after these events in the book.
In the vignettes, we see Hermione holding back tears, as she is wiping her parents memories, which
she does to protect her parents from their enemies the death eaters and Voldemort. It is a touching way
to set up the movie, it reminds the audience that the movie is as much about Ron and Hermione, as it
is about Harry. The second alteration is when Harry escapes from the Dursleys. A couple of the
opening scenes were cut, for instance not showing Harry s farewell to the

Supply And Demand Essay
Laws of Supply and Demand The market price of a good is determined by both the supply and
demand for it. In the world today supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental
principles that exists for economics and the backbone of a market economy. Supply is represented by
how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good that
producers are willing to supply for a certain demand price. What determines this interconnection is
how much of a good or service is supplied to the market or otherwise known as the supply relationship
or supply schedule which is graphically represented by the supply curve. In demand the schedule is
depicted graphically as the demand curve which represents the ... Show more content on

This causes the price and the quantity move in opposite directions in a supply curve shift. Also, if the
quantity supplied decreases at any given price the opposite will happen. A sudden increase or decrease
in the supply of a particular good is also known as a supply shock. A supply shock is an event that
suddenly changes the price of a product or service. This sudden change affects the equilibrium price.
The two types of supply shocks that exist are the Negative Supply shock and the Positive Supply
shock. A negative supply shock, which is a sudden supply decrease, will raise the prices and shift the
aggregate supply curve to the left. A negative supply shock can cause stagflation due to the
combination of raising prices and the falling output. Meanwhile a positive supply shock, an increase in
supply, will lower the price of a good and shift the aggregate supply curve to the right. A positive
supply shock could be advancement in technology which most certainly makes production more
efficient which thus increases output. For example a positive supply shock could be shown in the early
1990s when communication and information technology exploded which resulted directly in
productivity increase, and an example of a negative supply shock would be that of the high oil prices
associated with Arab oil embargo of the early 70s is the classic example of this occurrence. Any other
factor could also produce this effect. Such as if

Jonathan Kozol s `` Savage Inequalities ``
Jonathan Kozol s book, Savage Inequalities, is a passionate testament to the shortcomings of the
public education system in the United states. Kozol visits some of the most impoverished school
districts in East St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Camden, and San Antonio. He identifies characteristic
among all of these schools to include a high percentage of dropouts, a population of almost entirely
non white students, an infrastructure in disrepair, a startling lack of basic supplies, a shortage of
teachers, and an excess of students. Kozol also visits schools in the vicinity that are in stark contrast to
the poorest schools. They have an abundance of supplies, space, funds, AP curriculum, extra curricular
activities, and teachers. These schools were also predominantly white. Kozol explores reasons for
these differences between neighboring schools and finds that those who are in a position to initiate
change are largely apathetic to the inequalities. A point that Kozol emphasizes is the impact that
poverty has on the children who live in it. It has a physical impact that is difficult to ignore. Areas
with high poverty rates often become dumping grounds for trash and other harmful waste. The waste
causes medical problems in children that are difficult for their families to treat due to lack of access to
proper healthcare. Infant mortality rates soar in these areas for similar reasons. Medical problems
often interfere with education if the ailments are distracting or cause learning

Powers of the United States Congress as Established by the...
The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the
Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the
judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance on
each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often results
in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the Founding
Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the possibility of
any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress, like the other two
branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers specifically granted the
Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several different locations in the
Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The first of Congress enumerated
powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states. Since first being addressed by
the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the
power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate commerce has been expanded, over
time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce now includes any activities that
substantially affects interstate commerce. One of Congress most significant powers is the authority

Marcus Aurelius Quotes
#Blessed (Three Favorite Lines from Marcus Aurelius Meditations) As a child, my favorite book
series was J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter. My love for the story has carried on into my teen years, but I
have only just begun to realize the insights that come along with the familiarity of this text. Albus
Dumbledore said to Harry once, It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. Dumbledore was
attempting to teach Harry the importance of recognizing what he had been blessed with, rather than
focusing on the objects of his imagination. Many of Dumbledore s ideals bare a striking resemblance
to those of Marcus Aurelius. Both were men of strong character who seemingly did absolutely nothing
wrong in their lives. Marcus Aurelius Meditations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

over physicians and their qualifications. Between the years 1800 1840, the quality of education in the
medical field declined due to the fact that traditional four year programs were replaced by training in
medical colleges. The only issue with this is that once you graduated you were licensed, but the
qualifications of each physician varied so widely that there was a motion to have a national conference

out of these conferences is the Code of Ethics that was infused with the American Medical

Still In The Dark Silent Movie Audience By Gregg Bachman...
After reading the article Still in the Dark Silent Movie Audiences by Gregg Bachman, the experiences
of movie goers helped me understand how people watched or experienced movies when it first started
out. For instance, one person said You felt part of it; you became part of the picture with what was
taking place. We were part of the picture (pg. 121) meaning that as a movie goer you felt the emotion
or action of the film. This emotion still holds true, when I go watch a movie, I always feel the emotion
of the characters throughout out the film. For instance, when I was watching, the film 13 Hours, a
movie about the secret soldiers of Benghazi, the level of emotion throughout the film was high
because the soldiers were trying to survive and keep others safe while risking their own life s. I think
that when men and women go to movies today, it is more acceptable to show your emotions even
though it was entirely accepted in the past. Admittedly, when going to the movies it was seen as the
highlight of the week because you would do anything just go see a movie on a Saturday or Sunday

Analysis Of The Catcher Of The Rye
Two Worlds, Two Choices, Two Boys
In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield struggles to leave the real world around
him which he constantly fails to fit in. He is expelled from three schools before going to Pencey. He
then leaves Pencey for New York before Christmas. After experiencing the coldness of society in New
York, He decides to hitchhike to the West alone, escaping the society and leaving his family behind.
Instead, he chooses to dream about living in the fantasy world in his mind where all things he resists
do not exist. Among those things he resists in the real world, the phoniness of adults, the unavoidable
loss of children s innocence and his unbreakable bond with his family are the most significant ones
that schedule Holden s canceled departure.
Holden is unwilling to get along with phonies at his schools. When Holden explains the reason why he
leaves Elkton Hills School to Mr. Spencer, he gives an example: For instance, they had this
headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I ever met in my life (Salinger 17). Holden finally
drops out of Elkton Hills because of the phoniness of his headmaster even though Holden has no
direct contact with him. However, Holden s abhorrence toward phonies is so great and evident that he
cannot even stand watching a phony s action from far away. Holden originally believes that changing
to another school will reduce his interaction with phonies, but his thought is proved wrong at Pencey.

which we used to consider safe till date. They also trick people by providing fake websites which
pretend to be a legitimate website. Inexperienced people enter their details in it, which reaches evil
hands and causes them to lose their money.
Once your machine is connected to the internet, it is no longer safe. The websites you visit may
quietly install malware onto your computer, steal all crucial data from you and you may not even
know about it.
Hacking, spamming and phishing are the greatest threats on Internet today. The internet can now be
compared to the web where hackers and frauds hide waiting for their prey. Anyone who handles the
internet without proper security or

Attaining Virtue in The Republic of Plato
In the Republic of Plato, the philosopher Socrates lays out his notion of the good, and draws the
conclusion that virtue must be attained before one can be good. For Socrates there are two kinds of
virtue; collective and individual. Collective virtue is virtue as whole, or the virtues of the city.
Individual virtue pertains to the individual himself, and concerns the acts that the individual does, and
concerns the individual s soul. For Socrates, the relationship between individual and collective virtue
is that they are the same, as the virtues of the collective parallel those of the Individual. This
conclusion can be reached as both the city and the soul deal with the four main virtues of wisdom,
courage, moderation, and justice.
To be begin with, an individual cannot be good until they have attained the virtue of wisdom, and the
same can be said for the city. For the individual, the person must not only be wise himself, but his soul
must have wisdom. The only way to achieve this according to Socrates, is through for philosophy. In
this way it is the same for the city, for in the city, wisdom lies with the guardians as they are the
philosophers. The guardians are put in charge of the city because of their knowledge of how the city
should be run. Because of this, the Guardians wisdom becomes the City s. (Book IV)
The second virtue that must be attained is courage. For the Individual, courage must be in the soul to
resist temptations, and to be ready to fight. The same is for

‘Resurrection Is More Likely to Be True Than...
Resurrection is more likely to be true than reincarnation. Discuss
In discussing this statement, we must first define the words resurrection and reincarnation to decipher
what they mean. Resurrection is the act of rising from the dead or returning to life and reincarnation is
the rebirth of a soul in a new body. There are many problems surrounding the two due to mainly
religious beliefs. I will be focussing mainly of the religion of Hinduism as they believe in
reincarnation, and Christianity which believes in resurrection.
Reincarnation is a common belief in the eastern part of the world, with Buddhism as well as
Hinduism, supporting the idea of rebirth. In Hinduism each person has an essential self which is called
the Atman, and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wrote a book, Twenty cases suggestive of reincarnation , where he looked at cases where people
had seen to be reincarnated from someone else in the past from India, Ceylon and Brazil. He used
examples of children to make his judgement more reliable as they would not be influenced by society
or money in such a way that adults might. In one case there was a boy, Imad, who talked about a
family whom he used to live with, and the family had no connection to this other family at all. He
gave the name of where he lived and the family name, events and people that he knew there, and could
even direct them to the area of where he used to live. Stevenson later found out that a man, Ibrahim,
had died there and which matched up to all the events that the man had seen. The reincarnation was
not immediate but was nine years later. This extraordinary case gives strong belief that reincarnation is
true. However philosopher John Locke studied Steveson s book and suggests that the dead person has
left behinf some psycic traces or husks and therefore has a memory of the previous life, and is
therefore not reincarnated.
Reincarnation completely goes against the teachings of many other religions, such as Christianity,
Islam and Judaism as resurrection is the key to their religion. Without resurrection there would be no
point to the religion. For

The Little Ice Age
The statement regarding the Little Ice Age (LIA) and its relation to modern warming is incorrect at
multiple points and contains poor logical reasoning in arriving at its conclusions. The assertion that
the LIA resulted in cooling at all locations over the earth is incorrect. While scholarship indicates that
average temperature may have cooled on a global or hemispheric level during the LIA, this averaging
masks regional variances [Matthews and Briffa, 2005] LIA cooling was not uniform temporally or
spatially [e.g. Ogilvie and Jonsson, 2001; Kreutz et al. 1997; Hunt, 2006]. Temporally, climate was not
continuously cooler; multiple studies of the LIA, most notably Briffa s [2000] dendrochronology
dataset, indicate that the LIA was composed of both cold and warm periods, with several anomalously
warm years [e.g. Jones and Briffa, 2001; Bradley and Jones, 1993; Oglivie and Jonsson, 2001;
Matthews and Briffa, 2005]. Similarly, considerable spatial variation exists; multiple studies have
observed that at a time when one region in a hemisphere was cooling, the temperature trend in another
region was likely moving in the opposite direction [Matthews and Briffa, 2005; Hunt, 2006; Bradley
and Jones, 1993]. One notable contention to the uniform cooling claim is Tasmania, where no net
cooling occurred during LIA [Bradley and Jones, 1993]. Contradicting evidence aside, it is impossible
to support the claim for a ubiquitous global cooling during LIA, as proxy record availability and

The Effects Of Preeclampsia And How It Can Negatively...
Preeclampsia is a potentially deadly condition that typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy,
in either the late 2nd or 3rd trimesters. It is most simply defined as a condition where a pregnant
woman develops protein in their urine, due to organ damage (most often the kidneys) and high blood
pressure during late pregnancy. Thankfully, the condition isn t too common, as it presently effects in
anywhere from 3 to 7% of all pregnancies, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Read
to below to learn more about preeclampsia and how it can negatively impact a pregnancy:
Typical Symptoms of Preeclampsia:
Women who have preeclampsia often do not realize they are sick, as they don t feel all that bad. Some
of the symptoms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Causes of Preeclampsia:
Preeclampsia s exact cause is presently unknown. However, the following factors are thought be
increase the likelihood of a woman experiencing the condition:
Genetically predisposed or having a family history of the condition, or a previous pregnancy that
involved preeclampsia.
Being obese.
Having a multiples pregnancy, which of course means having more than one baby at a time, such as
having twins.
Being a first pregnancy.
The woman being older than 35 years of age.
Having a history of kidney disease, high blood pressure or diabetes.
A person s diet.
Issues with blood vessels.
The presence of autoimmune disorders.
Diagnosing Preeclampsia:
During pregnancy, a woman s doctor should always be on the lookout for all the physical symptoms of
preeclampsia listed above, such as weight gain, swelling and high blood pressure. In addition, if a
doctor suspects a problem, they should order blood tests as a way to measure the protein in a woman s
urine, and to discover a low platelet count or high liver enzymes. When preeclampsia is discovered,
doctors will do an ultrasound, non stress test and other tests to decide if the baby should be delivered
right away. Obviously, the more severe the condition, the more likely it is for a doctor to suggest
delivery.
Treatment For Preeclampsia:
As mentioned above, preeclampsia can be fatal for both the mother and the baby if left untreated.
Unfortunately, the only true cure is delivery of the baby. Ideally,

Ambush-Style Killings
Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding demonstrates the idea that our world today is still full of
corrupt people that break our world apart from the good. The article, Iowa Police Take Suspect in
Ambush Style Killings of Two Officers into Custody explains to us how evil our world still is to this
day, with a man killing two police officers because they wouldn t let him make fun of a race that
doesn t deserve to be made fun of. Just like Jack does to Piggy and Ralph when Jack calls Piggy a

certain situations that provoke one s actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article from The Washington Post informs us that two police officers were shot while sitting in
their squad cars in central Iowa Wednesday morning at 1:06am. They said it was an ambush style
attack. The man involved in the killings was waving a Confederate flag in front of a school. The police
officers asked him to leave the school premises because he was showing offence to the African
American s in that school. He then showed up at a football game and performed the same actions. His
actions were repugnant to the school and the people within the school. Sgt. Paul Parizek states that
there were no interactions between the man and the officers in the car. He also states that, the

Physics and Fish Bioenergetics Essays
Welcome to the world of fish physics. Many of us understand basic fish behavior and can reach logical
conclusions about where the best place to throw a fishing line is. But when we don t think much
further than that we are missing out on some very interesting details of fish behavior. We can never
fully understand why we find some fish in one location and some fish in other locations until we
consider the concept of fish bioenergetics. Ultimately, fish behavior is a product of bioenergetics.
First, we will take a look at basic fish bioenergetics, understanding the underlying quantitative
principles. Then, we will look at some examples of how physical forces, thermodynamics, and light
characteristics are specifically related to fish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Energy expended by the fish depends on the velocity (flow) of the water and the swimming capability
of the fish. The fish must exert a force in the upstream direction that is equal to the force of the water
trying to push it downstream. When the fish goes to retrieve a prey item laterally, it will have to swim
faster than the current. Getting a little bit more complex, we can consider Holling s disc equation
(Stephens and Krebs 1986) which can apply to any foraging animal. This equation s most simplified
derivation is R = λe s/ 1 + λh where R is the rate of intake, λ is the rate of encounter with other prey
items, e is the energy gain, s is the search cost, and h is the handling time. This equation assumes that
searching for prey and handling prey are mutually exclusive activities. It also assumes that the
encounter rate will have a positive linear relationship with the time spent searching for prey. For fish,
many aspects of the physical environment can effect all of these components. There are many physical
factors that effect fish bioenergetics, such as local hydrologic characteristics in a stream or river.
However, not all of the physical factors involved are especially obvious. We will look at three
examples here. Water velocity plays an extremly important role in fish bioenergetics. It effects
components that are detrimental to fish as

College Tuition Should Be Regulated
As a freshman college student I believe that college tuition is much higher compared to what it used to
be. One reason why it continues to increase is mainly because of the significant amount of loans that
are borrowed by college students but are not getting paid back; however, does anyone ever wonder
where does the money that is put into colleges go to? College professors are not the reason that
college cost so much; in addition to, the money also goes towards sport teams, scholarships, and
construction work in order to expand the campuses (Carey). Tuition at Stanford University in 1980 81
was $6,285. Thirty years later, Stanford s tuition had risen to $38,700. Tuition in 2011 12 is $40,050,
Goodman stated. With that being said college tuition should be regulated because it would be more
affordable, students would not feel as pressured, and the country s debt will slowly began to decrease.
Although college tuition at the University of South Alabama is much cheaper than Stanford University
it is still expensive to an average middle class family. College tuition should be regulated because it
would be more affordable for students that are fresh out of high school. Tuition at the University of
South Alabama for 2015 2016 is estimated to $9,240 but it could be either higher or lower for students
in a specific major. Tuition for USA in 1987 for in state students was $1,581 and for out of state
students it was $2,181. Twenty three years later in 2010 tuition rose up to $5,962

development is that cybersecurity is now a forefront issue in our nation, and a whole host of research

It is very easy to take the visualization of information too far however. For example, modern
dashboard designed programs and applications which present information in a variety of ways appears
very gimmicky, and according to Stephen Few, they can actually limit the amount of information

there exist an important balance in the presentation of information in design. It should allow the user

What Are The Similarities Between Cubism And Futurism
Introduction
The early Twentieth Century faced a series of movements that made an impact during that period. Two
of these major movements are Cubism and Futurism, which contrast in their origins, philosophies, and
method of creating art, their distinguishing characteristics, and method of relating the subject and
viewer in time and space, as well as the artists involved and their unique artworks. By comparing both
Movements, I will be able to distinguish the difference as well as the similarities between these
movements and the impact they have in modern art.
Cubism
Which was an Early Twentieth Century Style and Movement in art, used more in paintings, which
focussed more on the usage of geometric shapes, interlocking planes, and later at some point there was

Least Dragon s Behavioral Patterns
Least Dragon is one of the most fascinating species in Thrag Island, the small dragon which has a gray

species. Its displays of behavior such as ritualized aggression, and reproductive courtship and also the
defense mechanisms that this species uses makes this species s survival one of the most fascinating in
the island.
For starters, territoriality plays an important role in the dragon reproductive behavior as the male
dragons react to the approach or the song of another male, as a potential rivalry, which then starts a
display of ritualized aggression between them, as they continued to make rough cheech noises while

Likewise, draconologists have been trying to explain the reason behind why this dragon species do not

similar to its relatives (Westerosi dragons), which will not be enough protection against predators, and
also if used for reproductive purposes the flame would likely provide the location of the male, as it

Jesus Is The Christ Of Jesus
We as Christians know that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus was born in Bethlehem during the reign of
Herod the Great, around 4 to 6 B.C. At the age of 30, he was baptized by John the Baptist in the
Jordan River. After this he began his ministry teaching about the kingdom of God and preforming

made about him, such as the 1977 classic, Jesus of Nazareth. In this movie, Jesus performs many
miracles including raising people from the dead. His actions show us how God treats people and how
he should be treated. Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead because Lazarus and his family had a
strong faith in God. After this Lazarus became one of Jesus closest friends. His faith resurrected him,
Jesus was just the catalyst. Jesus declared that the people who believed in him will die, yet they will
live. What I believe this means is that although people will physically die in this life, they will
continue to live with God forever in Heaven. When Jesus came to the temple, he lost his temper and
destroyed the market shops. He claimed that the temple was God s house and it should not be
corrupted with buying and gambling. It was a holy place and yet the people thought nothing about
defiling it. When the woman who was caught committing adultery was about to be stoned, Jesus said

Methods Of Birth Control
Birth control is a way for men and women to prevent pregnancy. There are many different methods of
birth control, including hormonal contraception such as the birth control pill.
Women take the pill by mouth to prevent pregnancy, and, when taken correctly, it is up to 99.9%
effective. However, the pill does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV (the
virus that causes AIDS). The latex male condom provides the best protection from most STDs. Other
types of combined estrogen and progestin hormonal contraception include the patch and the vaginal
ring.

Analysis Of Alan Murray s The Wall Street Journal Guide...
In accordance with an adaptation from The Wall Street Journal Guide to Management by Alan Murray,
published by Harper Business, although leadership and management must function collectively, they
are not identical, however they are unavoidably connected and corresponding; any attempt to
disconnect the two is liable to initiate more complications than it resolves. Nevertheless, considerable
effort has been consumed outlining the dissimilarities. The manager s responsibility is to strategize
and coordinate, whereas the leader s responsibility is to encourage and motivate. (Murray, A., 2009)
Part A:
Manager
A manager is an individual in an establishment who is accountable for the four operations of
occupational management: preparation, coordinating, leadership, and commanding. You will observe
that one of the tasks is leadership, therefore, you may presume that all managers are leaders.
Hypothetically, yes, all managers would be leaders if they successfully accomplish their leadership
accountabilities to communicate and encourage workforces towards an elevated level of production.
Conversely, not all managers are leaders frankly, because not all managers are able to do all those
elements just itemized. An underling will adhere to the guidelines of a manager for exactly how to
achieve a duty because they must, however an operative will willingly adhere to the instructions of a
leader because they have confidence in who they are as an individual, what they represent and

Common Ground Observation Paper
On 07/15/2015, at approximately 2305 hours, your Affiant was on routine patrol on Main Street
(SR924) when I observed a silver Chrysler sedan parked in the One Hundred Block of South Main
Street (westside of the street) near the intersection of Oak Street. The vehicle displayed a Pennsylvania
registration of JRJ 5342. The registration was checked utilizing the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation vehicle record abstract which revealed that the license plate was assigned by the
department to KYLE ROBERT SARAH LYNN FOGARTY for a 1998 Chevrolet. I then verified the
status of KYLE and SARAH FOGARTY S driving licenses both of which were suspended by the
Department of Transportation.
At approximately 2340 hours, Officer Bowman, observed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(bruising, scabs and fluid oozing from some of the puncture marks). I pointed the marks out to COLIN
and he then admitted that he used heroin earlier today around eight in the morning. I told him it was
more recent than what he is saying (8AM) and explained the signs and symptoms I was observing
would not be noticed if that was his last dose. He then admitted he used the heroin few hours ago and
said it was a little before he left to go to Turkey Hill. I questioned him again about smoking synthetic
marijuana. COLIN said he smoked synthetic cannabis just before he was pulled over.
COLIN was requested and agreed to submit to a chemical test of blood. I read the chemical warning
and report of refusal form (DL 26) to COLIN before leaving the Shenandoah Police Department and
requested him to sign the form acknowledging he has been advised of the form to which he did. I then

In addition, the mentor assigned found the job of mentoring less stressful resulting in a relationship of
mutual understanding (Busen Engebretson, 1999). In addition, a novice can be a competent nurse or
expert nurse starting a new job (Benner, 1984). Second, Benner et al (2009) describe the advanced
beginner level as a nurse who has acquired their degree and starting out in practice, as a newly
graduated nurse with significant experience. The advanced beginner will begin to understand the
important features to this level, to differentiate between this level and the novice level Benner called
these features situational because the focus of this model is the actual performance of the nurse and
the results that occur in a specific situation. For example, the nurse begins to recognize changes that
occur before any obvious complications develop (intuition); this is possible when the nurse has had a
sufficient amount of hands on experience. Finally, at this level a mentor will prepare the advanced
beginner with further guidelines in their clinical profession. However, the advanced beginner is still
attempting to organize the importance of tasks that need completing for the patient and the different
stages of the illness the patient goes through. Furthermore, Baltimore (2004) indicates that current
work places are encountering insufficient orientation adding, to the challenges the nurse is already
experiencing. Third, the competent nurse who has

Competition, Efficiency, And Stability
Competition, Efficiency, and Stability in Banking 6
Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking
By:
Professor:
Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking
1.0 Introduction
1.1. Background of the study
Management of credit risk in financial institutions is a core concern for policy makers, practitioners,
and regulators, particularly from the start of the fiscal crisis. A singled out driving force of financial
unsteadiness is too much competition in the financial sector. As a result, special attention has been
received since the beginning of the financial crisis (Sealey Lindley, p.2009). Interested stakeholders
have produced studies that investigate the relationship between competition, efficiency, and stability.
The academic writing is yet to arrive at an agreement over these conflicting narratives. However,
recent theory and proof are pointing towards a positive outcome of competition on bank stability
(Schaeck Cih?k, 2013, p.111). On the contrary, conventional literature stipulates that growing
competition erodes character values that eventually yield a negative trade off between competition,
efficiency, and stability in the banking sector.
This research will, therefore, revisit the debate empirically, and bring up the question of mechanisms
that makes competition contribute to bank stability as stated in recent studies. In spite of its
significance for policy and regulation, the mechanism of transmission has remained an

Interplay Of Conflict And Deception In Interpersonal...
Two parts of interpersonal communication go hand in hand are conflict and deception. One can lead to
the other and vice versa. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people must realize
that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of conflict and
deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters. Interpersonal conflict is an
expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce
resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully
understand conflict, the definition can be broken down further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes,
conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully present until one party s feelings are aware to
the other party. This can be done through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs
between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011) explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both
parties depend on each other in some way. For example, the relationship between a child and their
parents is a relationship that has high interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two
parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting.
The next part of the definition declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as
incompatible. Incompatible, means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd

  • 2. Ignorance And Happiness In Fahrenheit 451 And Pleasantville The world we have, where we live, comprises a vast amount of knowledge. Knowledge refers to awareness or familiarity, obtained through learning, discoveries, or education. When you born, your brain is a blank sheet of paper. As you develop, your mind becomes conscious of facts and fills the clear piece of paper. The writing on the paper is precious; thus the knowledge is invaluable. Everyone knows knowledge is precious, but have you ever thought: can knowledge make people unhappy, distracted or suspicious? Ignorance is bliss plays a crucial character, contemplating the above question. Ignorance is happiness; a phrase that is strongly interpreted in the book Giver and the supporting films: Fahrenheit 451 and Pleasantville. Ignorance is bliss is well explained in the book Giver due to the subsequent explanations. The book Giver illustrates that everybody in the society is peaceful, except Jonas and the Giver. The reason Jonas and Giver are depressed is that they are mindful of all the unpleasant memories that have been given on for years. An additional example that supports the phrase Unawareness is pleasure, is, when Jonas s father goes for the releasing of a child, Jonas uncovers that releasing is death. Before Jonas realized that releasing is death, he agreed on the concept of releasing, but as he determines that releasing means death, that instant he says he killed him, my father killed him, showing a shock, and sadness. The statement, Illiteracy is happiness is correct because the examples illustrate that everyone in the community is fortunate because they are innocent of everything, even colors. They don t even know what is outside the town, so they claim it elsewhere. If people wish to live a pleasant life, they should not be informed of everything The movie Fahrenheit 451 provides a highly circumstantial evidence, for the phrase Ignorance is bliss. The famous quote from the film Fahrenheit 451; If you do not wish a house to set up, hide the nails and woods, meaning no one can build a house without nails and woods. How does this quote justify Ignorance is bliss? The quote states that if societies do not require people to have the intelligence, then all the wisdom bearing materials ... • 3. Seventy Year Old Minister Essay My paper is based on the fact that a bomb has been dropped on a city and only ten people have made it into the bomb shelter. While they are in there they discover that there is only enough food for seven of them so three of them will have to go. I am speaking in the character of the armed policemen and I have chosen to take out the Female Vocalist, The Famous Writer, and the Seventy year old minister. I have chose them for certain reasons that I will explain in the next couple of paragraphs. The reason I took out the Seventy year old minister is for one he is Seventy and the life expectancy for a man is Seventy Five so therefore he can go because he will not be able to help repopulate for long. But he is a Godly man so it would be good to keep him for the fact that he may teach the future generation for a year or two but I am not to sure they would understand the word of God that fast. This man also is possibly your weakest link so if you got into a situation he may not be helpful so that is another reason why I would take him out. The basics to the minister are he has lived his life, he is old, he is weak, and there is nothing he can really help with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was born is Spain in 1836 and arrived with his family to the United States when a child. He was skeptical about religious matters and believed that the pervasiveness of religious beliefs and faiths are of value of understanding but not accepting or practicing. And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural, in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were beginnings to a presented belief. In order to categorize one as such, Santayana describes the mind to be distressed, and have other radical subjective criticism of knowledge. When these two ideas disappeared, systems ceased to be sensibly understood. They became only sacred mysteries. Therefore making the transcendental system seem especially ... Assuming that the media does not care for the interest of the youth ,and children are susceptible to be manipulated because they have not fully formulated their own opinions and ideas on certain subjects, therefore their premeditated conceptions are able to be changed easily because they can be influenced. Thus, the media can negatively affect the youth and their viewpoints on controversial issues, their minds are still young and forming, so they will believe whatever people say without doing further research for themselves to know it is factual or not. The media is not looking out for the best interest of the youth. Advertising in the media can bring upon misinterpretation in a child s mind. Children are exposed to advertising all day, whether it is on the television, their phone, or advertisements around the city the advertisers have strategies to advertise their products to children (Barve G, Sood A, Nithya S, Virmani T). The media puts false images or ideas in their minds making the children believe something that isn t true. The media does not care how it affects the child, but they should. Throughout the existence of this unstable nation, soccer was the most popular sport with the most devout supporters. The sport and its various teams held strong ties to the political structure of Yugoslavia, being run and controlled often by government institutions. It is for this reason that soccer in Yugoslavia can serve as a political barometer to understand the underlying concerns, ideologies, and conflicts that occurred in the country in the 20th century. Not does the sport mimic the political history of the nation, it was often tied directly to political parties and ideologies. This essay will look into the inception, rise, and eventual demise of Yugoslavia through the perspective of soccer and its role in all of it. In particular, the focus will be on the most popular teams in present day Serbia, Red Star Belgrade and FK Partizan and their rivalry, as well as the role of the Bosnian club Velez. Furthermore, the clash between Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star will be shown as a catalyst for the following war of independence. Some contrast to the division and antagonism will be shown by looking closely at the Yugoslav national team following World War II. Initially one must look to politically charged club teams in Yugoslavia, such as Red Star Belgrade and FK Partizan. The history of these teams and their formation is important to consider. Even if they may appear similar on the surface, they are very dissimilar once you look beyond the outer similarities. The best movie/book to contrast is the first movie of the deathly hallows and the book, mainly because it has the greatest similarities between the book and the movies. The possible reason why the movie has the least amount of major differences is because, It was split into two parts which allowed it to remain more loyal to the original text. There are ten differences between them but there are some noticeable differences which do not contract very much from the overall quality of the movie. The first difference is, that we see Hermione oblivate her parents memories. Oblivate means to erase a person s memory using a magic spell. At the beginning of the movie it starts with a touching series of vignettes showing Hermione, Ron, and, Harry preparing for their journey, and this is only described after these events in the book. In the vignettes, we see Hermione holding back tears, as she is wiping her parents memories, which she does to protect her parents from their enemies the death eaters and Voldemort. It is a touching way to set up the movie, it reminds the audience that the movie is as much about Ron and Hermione, as it is about Harry. The second alteration is when Harry escapes from the Dursleys. A couple of the opening scenes were cut, for instance not showing Harry s farewell to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the world today supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental principles that exists for economics and the backbone of a market economy. Supply is represented by how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good that producers are willing to supply for a certain demand price. What determines this interconnection is how much of a good or service is supplied to the market or otherwise known as the supply relationship or supply schedule which is graphically represented by the supply curve. In demand the schedule is depicted graphically as the demand curve which represents the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This causes the price and the quantity move in opposite directions in a supply curve shift. Also, if the quantity supplied decreases at any given price the opposite will happen. A sudden increase or decrease in the supply of a particular good is also known as a supply shock. A supply shock is an event that suddenly changes the price of a product or service. This sudden change affects the equilibrium price. The two types of supply shocks that exist are the Negative Supply shock and the Positive Supply shock. A negative supply shock, which is a sudden supply decrease, will raise the prices and shift the aggregate supply curve to the left. A negative supply shock can cause stagflation due to the combination of raising prices and the falling output. Meanwhile a positive supply shock, an increase in supply, will lower the price of a good and shift the aggregate supply curve to the right. A positive supply shock could be advancement in technology which most certainly makes production more efficient which thus increases output. For example a positive supply shock could be shown in the early 1990s when communication and information technology exploded which resulted directly in productivity increase, and an example of a negative supply shock would be that of the high oil prices associated with Arab oil embargo of the early 70s is the classic example of this occurrence. • 12. Jonathan Kozol s `` Savage Inequalities `` Jonathan Kozol s book, Savage Inequalities, is a passionate testament to the shortcomings of the public education system in the United states. Kozol visits some of the most impoverished school districts in East St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Camden, and San Antonio. He identifies characteristic among all of these schools to include a high percentage of dropouts, a population of almost entirely non white students, an infrastructure in disrepair, a startling lack of basic supplies, a shortage of teachers, and an excess of students. Kozol also visits schools in the vicinity that are in stark contrast to the poorest schools. They have an abundance of supplies, space, funds, AP curriculum, extra curricular activities, and teachers. These schools were also predominantly white. Kozol explores reasons for these differences between neighboring schools and finds that those who are in a position to initiate change are largely apathetic to the inequalities. A point that Kozol emphasizes is the impact that poverty has on the children who live in it. It has a physical impact that is difficult to ignore. Areas with high poverty rates often become dumping grounds for trash and other harmful waste. The waste causes medical problems in children that are difficult for their families to treat due to lack of access to proper healthcare. Infant mortality rates soar in these areas for similar reasons. Medical problems often interfere with education if the ailments are distracting or cause learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Powers of the United States Congress as Established by the... The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance on each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often results in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the Founding Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the possibility of any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress, like the other two branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers specifically granted the Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several different locations in the Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The first of Congress enumerated powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states. Since first being addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate commerce has been expanded, over time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce now includes any activities that substantially affects interstate commerce. • 22. Attaining Virtue in The Republic of Plato In the Republic of Plato, the philosopher Socrates lays out his notion of the good, and draws the conclusion that virtue must be attained before one can be good. For Socrates there are two kinds of virtue; collective and individual. Collective virtue is virtue as whole, or the virtues of the city. Individual virtue pertains to the individual himself, and concerns the acts that the individual does, and concerns the individual s soul. For Socrates, the relationship between individual and collective virtue is that they are the same, as the virtues of the collective parallel those of the Individual. This conclusion can be reached as both the city and the soul deal with the four main virtues of wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice. To be begin with, an individual cannot be good until they have attained the virtue of wisdom, and the same can be said for the city. For the individual, the person must not only be wise himself, but his soul must have wisdom. The only way to achieve this according to Socrates, is through for philosophy. In this way it is the same for the city, for in the city, wisdom lies with the guardians as they are the philosophers. The guardians are put in charge of the city because of their knowledge of how the city should be run. Because of this, the Guardians wisdom becomes the City s. (Book IV) The second virtue that must be attained is courage. For the Individual, courage must be in the soul to resist temptations, and to be ready to fight. The same is for ... Resurrection is the act of rising from the dead or returning to life and reincarnation is the rebirth of a soul in a new body. There are many problems surrounding the two due to mainly religious beliefs. I will be focussing mainly of the religion of Hinduism as they believe in reincarnation, and Christianity which believes in resurrection. He wrote a book, Twenty cases suggestive of reincarnation , where he looked at cases where people had seen to be reincarnated from someone else in the past from India, Ceylon and Brazil. He used examples of children to make his judgement more reliable as they would not be influenced by society or money in such a way that adults might. In one case there was a boy, Imad, who talked about a family whom he used to live with, and the family had no connection to this other family at all. He gave the name of where he lived and the family name, events and people that he knew there, and could even direct them to the area of where he used to live. Stevenson later found out that a man, Ibrahim, had died there and which matched up to all the events that the man had seen. The reincarnation was not immediate but was nine years later. This extraordinary case gives strong belief that reincarnation is true. However philosopher John Locke studied Steveson s book and suggests that the dead person has left behinf some psycic traces or husks and therefore has a memory of the previous life, and is therefore not reincarnated. • 25. The Little Ice Age The statement regarding the Little Ice Age (LIA) and its relation to modern warming is incorrect at multiple points and contains poor logical reasoning in arriving at its conclusions. The assertion that the LIA resulted in cooling at all locations over the earth is incorrect. While scholarship indicates that average temperature may have cooled on a global or hemispheric level during the LIA, this averaging masks regional variances [Matthews and Briffa, 2005] LIA cooling was not uniform temporally or spatially [e.g. Ogilvie and Jonsson, 2001; Kreutz et al. 1997; Hunt, 2006]. Temporally, climate was not continuously cooler; multiple studies of the LIA, most notably Briffa s [2000] dendrochronology dataset, indicate that the LIA was composed of both cold and warm periods, with several anomalously warm years [e.g. Jones and Briffa, 2001; Bradley and Jones, 1993; Oglivie and Jonsson, 2001; Matthews and Briffa, 2005]. Similarly, considerable spatial variation exists; multiple studies have observed that at a time when one region in a hemisphere was cooling, the temperature trend in another region was likely moving in the opposite direction [Matthews and Briffa, 2005; Hunt, 2006; Bradley and Jones, 1993]. One notable contention to the uniform cooling claim is Tasmania, where no net cooling occurred during LIA [Bradley and Jones, 1993]. They are diagnosed up to 65% more frequently and the mortality rate is twice that of Caucasian counterparts (Emerson, 2009). The African American male is also less likely to take advantage of free prostate cancer screening (Oliver, 2007). Current state of the science Today, prostate cancer is usually detected through screening, and there are two methods for early detection. Prognosis of prostate cancer diagnosed at an early stage is noted as being optimistic. Despite these credible statistics, free prostate cancer screening and early detection remains a problem area for many health care practitioners when it comes to the African American population (Plowden, 2009). Leininger s Sunrise Model Madeline Leininger s Sunrise Model has been used in many studies over the past twenty years. Between 1999 and 2008, over 200 citations of articles were noted using Leininger Theory (McEwen, 2011). She postulated that nurses should attempt to increase knowledge related to the care of people who value their cultural heritage and way of life (McEwen, 2011). The Leininger Sunrise Model of cultural diversity is used to obtain compliance with prostate cancer screening among African American men; the goal has been to build a relationship of cooperation between clients and health care workers. Educating the men as well as examining their fears and anxieties is useful in removing barriers of resistance and gaining trust, thus empowering the client (McEwen, 2011). Theory, model, concepts, propositions, strengths and limitations The Health Belief Model (HBM) postulates a person s perception of disease threat and benefits of taking action will predetermine taking action (Rivers, 2009). The article from The Washington Post informs us that two police officers were shot while sitting in their squad cars in central Iowa Wednesday morning at 1:06am. They said it was an ambush style attack. The man involved in the killings was waving a Confederate flag in front of a school. The police officers asked him to leave the school premises because he was showing offence to the African American s in that school. He then showed up at a football game and performed the same actions. His actions were repugnant to the school and the people within the school. Sgt. Paul Parizek states that there were no interactions between the man and the officers in the car. He also states that, the coward... that shot them while they sat in their car. The man is afraid to face the officers and didn t care who the officers were when he was shooting. At around 10:00am Wednesday morning they caught the shooter, Scott Michael Greene, and he is now in custody. Many people choose to do absurd acts to get revenge or to get back at someone for what has been done to them. The man that shot the two police officers was doing just that. • 31. Physics and Fish Bioenergetics Essays Welcome to the world of fish physics. Many of us understand basic fish behavior and can reach logical conclusions about where the best place to throw a fishing line is. But when we don t think much further than that we are missing out on some very interesting details of fish behavior. We can never fully understand why we find some fish in one location and some fish in other locations until we consider the concept of fish bioenergetics. Ultimately, fish behavior is a product of bioenergetics. First, we will take a look at basic fish bioenergetics, understanding the underlying quantitative principles. Then, we will look at some examples of how physical forces, thermodynamics, and light characteristics are specifically related to fish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Energy expended by the fish depends on the velocity (flow) of the water and the swimming capability of the fish. The fish must exert a force in the upstream direction that is equal to the force of the water trying to push it downstream. When the fish goes to retrieve a prey item laterally, it will have to swim faster than the current. Getting a little bit more complex, we can consider Holling s disc equation (Stephens and Krebs 1986) which can apply to any foraging animal. This equation s most simplified derivation is R = λe s/ 1 + λh where R is the rate of intake, λ is the rate of encounter with other prey items, e is the energy gain, s is the search cost, and h is the handling time. This equation assumes that searching for prey and handling prey are mutually exclusive activities. It also assumes that the encounter rate will have a positive linear relationship with the time spent searching for prey. For fish, many aspects of the physical environment can effect all of these components. There are many physical factors that effect fish bioenergetics, such as local hydrologic characteristics in a stream or river. However, not all of the physical factors involved are especially obvious. We will look at three examples here. Water velocity plays an extremly important role in fish bioenergetics. It effects components that are detrimental to fish as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One reason why it continues to increase is mainly because of the significant amount of loans that are borrowed by college students but are not getting paid back; however, does anyone ever wonder where does the money that is put into colleges go to? College professors are not the reason that college cost so much; in addition to, the money also goes towards sport teams, scholarships, and construction work in order to expand the campuses (Carey). Tuition at Stanford University in 1980 81 was $6,285. Thirty years later, Stanford s tuition had risen to $38,700. Tuition in 2011 12 is $40,050, Goodman stated. With that being said college tuition should be regulated because it would be more affordable, students would not feel as pressured, and the country s debt will slowly began to decrease. Although college tuition at the University of South Alabama is much cheaper than Stanford University it is still expensive to an average middle class family. College tuition should be regulated because it would be more affordable for students that are fresh out of high school. For starters, territoriality plays an important role in the dragon reproductive behavior as the male dragons react to the approach or the song of another male, as a potential rivalry, which then starts a display of ritualized aggression between them, as they continued to make rough cheech noises while displaying their blood red frills (which is an example of sexual dimorphism as ... In this movie, Jesus performs many miracles including raising people from the dead. His actions show us how God treats people and how he should be treated. Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead because Lazarus and his family had a strong faith in God. After this Lazarus became one of Jesus closest friends. His faith resurrected him, Jesus was just the catalyst. Jesus declared that the people who believed in him will die, yet they will live. What I believe this means is that although people will physically die in this life, they will continue to live with God forever in Heaven. Competition, Efficiency, And Stability Competition, Efficiency, and Stability in Banking 6 Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking By: Professor: Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking 1.0 Introduction 1.1. Background of the study Management of credit risk in financial institutions is a core concern for policy makers, practitioners, and regulators, particularly from the start of the fiscal crisis. A singled out driving force of financial unsteadiness is too much competition in the financial sector. As a result, special attention has been received since the beginning of the financial crisis (Sealey Lindley, p.2009). Interested stakeholders have produced studies that investigate the relationship between competition, efficiency, and stability. The academic writing is yet to arrive at an agreement over these conflicting narratives. However, recent theory and proof are pointing towards a positive outcome of competition on bank stability (Schaeck Cih?k, 2013, p.111). On the contrary, conventional literature stipulates that growing competition erodes character values that eventually yield a negative trade off between competition, efficiency, and stability in the banking sector. This research will, therefore, revisit the debate empirically, and bring up the question of mechanisms that makes competition contribute to bank stability as stated in recent studies. • 47. Interplay Of Conflict And Deception In Interpersonal... Two parts of interpersonal communication go hand in hand are conflict and deception. One can lead to the other and vice versa. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people must realize that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of conflict and deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters. Interpersonal conflict is an expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully understand conflict, the definition can be broken down further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes, conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully present until one party s feelings are aware to the other party. This can be done through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011) explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both parties depend on each other in some way. For example, the relationship between a child and their parents is a relationship that has high interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting. The next part of the definition declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as incompatible. Incompatible, means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd ...
