Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato
In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening
up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body
will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his
claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary.
Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things
like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It
is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters
Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is
dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and
incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible.
Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as
the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the
point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are
immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony.
Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most
notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls
the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the
entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part
that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it
tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the
lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would
never be out of tune with the

Film Review of Blades of Glory Essay
Blades of Glory, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is a hilarious comedy that turns figure
skating into one big joke. This movie was so over the top, it was over over the top, but it kept the
whole theater laughing throughout the entire movie, which is exactly what it was made to do. The
movie s plot is not very intricate, but it really doesn t need to be. It s about 2 Men s Singles Figure
Skaters that are the complete opposites of each other. Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) is the
notorious bad boy in figure skating, he s very sexual and all the ladies swoon over him. Jimmy
MacElroy (Jon Heder) is the good boy that pays attention to technical detail and precision. These two
skaters compete against each other and end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They fight again and both get arrested. Jimmy s former coach (Craig T. Nelson) ends up getting them
out of jail and recommends they be partners. Both say no at first, but they end up doing it, bickering
and fighting the entire time. They sign up for the Olympic try out, which causes a stir in all the news
and gets under the skin of the main Doubles Skaters, Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Will
Arnett and Amy Poehler). Both Doubles teams make it to the Olympics, and the Van Waldenberg s do
everything in their power to ensure they come out with the Gold Medal. They cheat, spy, and try to
harm Chazz and Jimmy, but are unsuccessful. Chazz and Jimmy make it in times to skate during their
turn, and perform stunts that have never been done successfully before. They end up winning the Gold
Medal and the Van Waldenberg s end up getting arrested. As mentioned before, the plot is not very
intricate. And you basically know the ending of the film before it even starts. But it doesn t matter
because everything that happens in the movie is just so funny. For example, seeing Will Ferrell on ice
skates and thought of as a sex symbol was hilarious on its own because its so ridiculous. But then
having Craig T. Nelson playing a character simply called Coach , Jimmy having a gay stalker that says
he will kill Jimmy one day to his face, a former professional ice skater, Scott Hamilton, actually acting

Alcohol And Hepatocellular Tumor
The liver is the organ responsible for filtering chemicals and metabolizing drugs. It also makes
proteins responsible for blood clotting and other functions. When alcohol reaches the liver, it produces
a dangerous enzyme known as acetaldehyde. The liver needs water to do its basic functions. Alcohol
acts as a diuretic and dehydrates the body, depriving the liver of the water it needs to function. When
acetaldehyde and other alcoholic toxins build up in the liver, they can cause a variety of health
problems.
One of the most commonly known problems of the liver caused by alcohol is hepatocellular
carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer. There are other types of liver cancers, such as
cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct, and hepatic angiosarcoma, a rare malignant
mesenchymal tumor. Both of these cancers are not caused by alcohol abuse. HCC is caused by
cirrhosis or other long term damage to the liver. Cirrhosis is most often caused by alcohol abuse,
hemochromatosis, or a hepatitis B or C infection. Symptoms of HCC include abdominal pain, easy
bruising, enlarged abdomen, jaundiced skin or eyes, and unexplained weight loss. Many tests are
ordered to diagnosis liver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcohol abuse and hepatitis B and C are the most common causes of cirrhosis. Cirrhosis can cause
weakness, loss of appetite, jaundice, itching, and fatigue, and can be diagnosed by blood tests,
physical examinations, and a liver biopsy. There are many complications of cirrhosis, such as edema
and ascites, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, hepatic encephalopathy, portal vein hypertension,
hepatorenal and hepatopulmonary syndrome, hypersplenism, and liver cancer. One of the most
common treatments of cirrhosis is a liver transplant. However, alcoholics have to be sober for six
months to prove that they are serious about taking care of their new liver and staying sober after the

ABSTRACT
Natural products are invaluable resource of anticancer drug discovery. They generally viewed as safe
but weak, within the framework of nanotechnology, they can serve as template for potent anticancer
drugs. We first evaluated the cytotoxic activity of different propolis extracts (water, hydroalcohol,
ethanol and hexane) in many cancer cell lines, then the solid nanoparticles from the organic solvent
extracts were prepared and their cytotoxicity was evaluated as well. Finally, 1,2 dipalmitoyl sn glycero
3 phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1,2 dioleoyl sn glycero 3 phosphocholine (DOPC) liposomes were
prepared from the most cytotoxic organic solvent extract and their cytotoxicity was also evaluated.
All results collectively showed that hexane extract and its solid nanoparticles as well as its liposomal
form exhibited high cytotoxic activity. DPPC/DOPC hexane extract cytotoxicity was selectively

Buddhist Ethnography Essay
The Buddhist Experience Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the actions
of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set foot in a
Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my stereotypical
thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average Joe, American man.
Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to sum up the Buddhist
religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people. First, Buddhism. Buddhism is a
religion based off of the idea that there is a path that one can take to achieve enlightenment, instead of
believing in a god or multiple gods. Buddhism began with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Eight folds are: Right understanding, Right thought, Right speech, Right action, Right livelihood,
Right effort, Right mindfulness, and Right concentration. This is the way that everyone should live if
they want to achieve enlightenment along the Buddhist path. This is not the only thing that Siddhartha
taught though. Like every single religion since the beginning of time, there is a list of rules.
Christianity has the 10 Commandments, Islam has the Five Pillars of Islam, and Buddhism has the
Religious Reformations of Buddha. Unlike most religions, Buddhism strays from the focus on an all
mighty deity or deities. Buddhism preaches five different logics that deviate from the norm when it
comes to religious ideals: first, Strive after enlightenment with due diligence. This means you must
put a lot of effort into the job of enlightenment if you wish to achieve it. Second, there will be no
metaphysical theorizing. This is the one that seems to throw a wrench into the ideals of every religion
before it, there is no God and if you even think that there is a God, you are disgracing the Buddhist
way of life. Buddhism is a way of life, it is not a religion with a holy God. Third, there is no tradition,
no ritual. The teachings themselves are supposed to lead you, but if you do not know yourself, there is
no way that you can know Buddhism and

The Righteousness Of Any Church
The righteousness of any church, especially one separate of a denomination, is not how it is structured
nor what title it is named, but rather how faithfully it abides by to the instructions of Holy Scripture.
There doesn t exist a church that is infallible, because churches are made of mere humans who are
adept in error. Even the Apostles, with all the favors of Spiritual Gifts that God bestowed upon them,
were not devoid of mistakes.
When it comes to anything that has to do with a corporate relationship with God and their collective
love, worship, and praise for Him, we always take our direction from the Word which has all authority
in our lives and the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.
When speaking of corporate worship, we must begin with a criterion imparted by both Old and New
Testaments: Father God only receives veneration presented within a Covenant context. One genuine
description of worship that seeks to be scriptural, needs to initially recognize that worship is
distinctive in that it is a glorification of both individual and corporate covenant bond with the Lord
God Almighty. The expression covenant merely pronounces an unambiguous relationship between two
entities, in this instance El Shaddai and His created beings. The relationship has clearly defined
prerequisites and commitments. Sometimes both entities to the covenant must keep all the
commitments for the covenant to remain in force (a conditional covenant) while at other times God
promises to

Comparing The Map Model And The Skyscraper Model
1. Compare and contrast the Skyscraper Model and the culture as a Map model. Which do you prefer
and why? The Skyscraper model divides culture in to high and low. This is superior products at the top
and inferior ones at the bottom. The high culture is known as the fine art group. Examples of high
culture (the top of the tower) is ballet and the syphomy. The low culture is known as the junk group.
The low culture (the bottom of the tower) is rock music and video games. The Skyscraper model has
allowed critics to develop five areas of concern: inability to appreciate fine art, a tendency to exploit
high culutre, a throway ethic, a diminishing audience for high culture, and dulling our cultural taste
buds. The second model is the Map Model. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The show never interested me. This show never touched on any touchy subject, the only thing they did
was Gym Tan Laundry. The theme I see with trashy shows is that they have no value to them. They
don t have something that really makes you think or feel emotions. 2. Is there anything you can think
of that is universally trashy ? Or universally in good taste? I think a show that is universally trashy is
the Jerry Springer show. I am pretty sure they give that show in other countries. A show that I think is
universally in good taste is Grey s Anatomy. I know a lot of people who are obsessed with that show
and it can be educational. I have not seen it myself, but apparently it goes in depth on medical
practices. 3. On the whole, are Americans seen as having good taste? Why or why not? Is there a
country/culture that always seems tasteful in its cultural products? When I went to Colombia, they had
the same programming as we did in the United States. The only thing different was obviously the
language. I do thing most Americans are obsessed with reality TV, which really isn t a good taste, even

Diffusion Investigation
Data Analysis:
With this experiment, the affect of surface area to volume ratio on the rate of diffusion is investigated.
Four agars containing phenolphthalein, an indicator that turns colorless in acid, each ranging in size
were used. In this experiment, the agar cubes represent cells and the time it took for cubes to turn
colorless shows the rate of diffusion. Next, the cubes were placed in a beaker and just enough
hydrochloric acid was added to cover them. Then, the time it took them to turn colorless was
measured. It was observed that when volume increases, so does the surface area, but more so. For
example, the volume of the smallest cube was 0.125cm3 while it s surface are was 1.5 cm2. The
difference of volumes between the smallest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most importantly, it s very hard to give exact measurements for the agar cubes. Therefore, each group
could have had varying sizes of cubes or the size could have differed from the one we said it was. For
example, the cube with the dimension of 1cm could have been more or less than that. To improve the
accuracy, we can use an electronic balance to make sure that the cubes with the same dimensions have
the same mass to ensure that their sizes are equal. Moreover, we didn t measure the amount of
hydrochloric acid we put into the beakers within the groups as the only instruction we got was to pour
it in until the cubes are covered. Having varied amounts of hydrochloric acid became a source of error
in the experiment. Next time, we should put the same amount of hydrochloric acid into the beakers.
We can do this by using a measuring cylinder. Furthermore, not taking into account the possibility of
an outlier became a source of error in the experiment. Not taking out the outlier from the data or
repeating it for that specific one will wrongly influence the average, which in turn will influence the
standard deviation. This could lead us to think that the experiment was more or less reliable than it
actually was. For example, for the cubes with 1cm dimension, one of the values was 209 seconds
while the others were 596,790, 720,750 and 841 seconds. This suggests that an error has been made in

Nurse Ratched Women
There seems to be an uncanny similarity between all the men at ward. Most of the male patients are
tormented by a woman: Brombden s wife, billy s mom, nurse ratched, Mrs. Harding. Each of these
women are intent on dominating men by emasculating them. These female characters are demonized
as ball cutters because they do not adhere to traditional female roles and they emasculate the male
characters(Kesey 54). Take the poor Billy Bibbit a 31 year old is still very dependent on his mother,
Mother, I th th thirty one years old!...She laughed and twiddled with weed. Sweet heart, do I look like
the mother of a middle aged man? (Kesey 295) Ken Kesey was certain on trying to show the

Another victim of masculine accusation is Nurse ratched, the head of the ward. She is often described
as a piece of machinery. Chief Bromden says, But down inside of her she s tense as steel (28). The
word steel makes one think of hard, cold machines and Nurse Ratched operates as one. She must
maintain order at all times. Nurse Ratched is able to exercise so much power in the mental ward not
only because she does not fit with traditional gender norms but because she actively represses her
femininity (). Nurse Ratched falls into the category of Iron Maiden due to her powerful presence she is
blamed for the pitiful death of Billy Bibbit(). Chief s observations of her on the ward illustrate Nurse
Ratched s domineering presence, but the readers know more about the castration of husband and son
through Chief s mother.Chief views his father s sacrifice of his name is proof of the dominating nature
of his mother. Whom is blamed for her husband s alcolhalism and instutionlixation of her son. In
reality the fate of these men is the result of their own wrongdoing, neglect, and regret. Many critics
defend the book as a stance of power and presence, but truly it is a circle of blame on who is

The Failure Of Vocation Limited Essay
1 IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM This essay exposits the failure of Vocation Limited to draft how might
a more appropriate application of the eight ASX Corporate Governance Principles (ASX, 2014, p. 4)
have conceivably prevented the failure. Corporate failure is referred to insolvency in Australia, which
means the inability to meet the due debt obligations, resulting in business suspension (Michaela,
Patricia, Susan, Kimberly, Matthew, 2012, p. 365). Corporate governance denotes to the system by
which corporations are directed and controlled (Michaela et al., 2012, p. 188). Moreover, Hamilton
and Micklethwait (2006, p. 1) postulates that the six causes of corporate failure are the most
representative with irrespective of sector or geography. Therefore, by applying the six main causes
(Hamilton Micklethwait, 2006, p. 1) and the eight principles (ASX, 2014, p. 4), the scope of the essay
is limited to the company prospective without consideration of external issues. Additionally, this essay
accesses only the public available information of Vocation. 2 DETERMINE RELEVANT
INFORMATION As vocational based training outsourced by the governments, Vocation pied in

The Consequences Of The Oscar Pistorius Trial
The Oscar Pistorius Trial Everyone is prone to making errors of expression and perspective in our
everyday lives. However, at times these mistakes can be more costly. One such case is the Pistorius
trial, where Oscar Pistorius committed the errors of contradiction, appeal to emotion, and unwarranted
assumptions. In addition, his lawyer Barry Roux also committed the fallacy of appeal to emotions to
completely mitigate his client of any responsibly. Moreover, the Judge Masipa in this case committed
the error of unwarranted assumption by over sympathizing with Oscar Pistorius, which lead to the
sentencing he received. Therefore, one need to think critically about the consequences of this actions.
According to the BBC News Mr. Pistorius claimed in the trial, that on February 14, 2013 he accidently
killed his girlfriend. In the trial BBC news reported that Mr. Pistorius and his girlfriend Reeva
Steenkamp had dinner at 7:00 p.m. Then, they went to sleep around 9:00 or 10:00. p.m. Sometime, in
the early morning hours his girlfriend had woken up and asked him, if he was having trouble sleeping.
Mr. Pistorius indicated that he had trouble sleeping and went to get some fans from the balcony. Upon
reentering he heard noise coming from the bathroom and he thought that someone was trying to break
into their home. Furthermore, this is when Mr. Pistorius said he called to his girlfriend to get out and
call the police. Then, he reached for his firearm that was under the bed. At that

Chapter One: Wanderlust (P.g. 1 2)
He swung his sword, a giant blade bigger than the man wielding it, from atop the horse he rode and
took out a swath of knights. It was inspirational to see him fight, he wielded his blade with the grace
of a fencer and the ferocity of a starving lion. Those that saw him fight, friend or foe, called him a
monster on the battlefield, because of his horrifying demeanor and impeccable fighting ability. He
continued to carve a path directly through the enemy forces, the horse he was riding upon had taken an
arrow to its side so he had dismounted and left it behind. He drew his short sword and began to take
the enemy out one by one, once his short sword had broken, he used his knives and once those to had

Your voice is too high for a man, but too different to that of a young boy, you must be a woman he
paused for a moment, strange to see one like yourself on the battlefield.
Well, it s also quite strange to see a man walking the battlefield with a blade as long as he is tall isn t

I saw what you did, to these helpless people, you slaughtered them you goddamn monster; and
because of that, I cannot let you leave here alive!

The Supreme Court Of India
1. INTRODUCTION
Most social movements in India since the 1970s have actively used the Courts especially the Supreme
Court as a part of their struggles. This has been possible because of the higher Courts activism,
especially under the guidance and action of Public Interest Litigation. Through the instrument of
Public Interest Litigation, the Court liberated itself from traditional constraints in the legal system so
as to reach out to the weaker sections of Indian humanity.
The Supreme Court of India has adopted a forward looking approach since last few years, particularly
having regard to the socio economic conditions prevailing in the country. In fact there are two kinds of
approaches which characterise the functioning of the highest Court in every democracy. Either the
Court adopts an activist approach or resigns itself to passive role. In a country like India, judges adopt
an activist approach to bring about social and economic change and to improve the life conditions of
the people and make basic human rights available to them. The Supreme Court has revolved a new
doctrine of judicial activism with a view of making basic human rights meaningful and effective for
the deprived and exploited sections of humanity.
Judiciary is the third wing of the Government empowered to administer justice to the people of India.
The Courts are protectors of an individual s Fundamental and Legal Rights when they are violated.
But in these days, access to Court is also a difficult task

the power of words that function only to categorize individuals into certain races or social classes.

Even though Christmas looks white and was raised in a white orphanage, he is treated as black man.
Even though Christmas looks white, he cannot escape from the expectations of a black man.
Christmas, throughout his relationships with black and white women, always tells them that he is part
black. When Joanna Burden asked Joe if he knew for sure that is he part nigger, he answers, I don t
know it...If I m not, damned if I haven t wasted a lot of time. (p. 188) Christmas could just hide his
ethnicity. However, the label taunts him and leaves a lasting impression. The label causes Christmas to
experience an identity crisis. He lives his whole life based on his own expectations of black men.
Joe Christmas induces pain on himself by fighting with white men and black men. Christmas teases
white men into calling him nigger and black men into calling him white. He fights, and is sometimes
beaten. Christmas hurts himself in order to find out if he belongs in a distinct category. The label of
nigger affects the way he lives his life. The way he lives his life affects the society around him as he
vents his frustration and confusion on others.
The racial expectations of Joe Christmas also includes sexual expectations. Black men were expected
to be vigorous in bed. They were also expected to be violently passionate. Physically, black men were
expected to be more powerful and more developed. When

Depression As A Chemical Imbalance
Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the population, suffer
from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human brain and its complexities currently
make it impossible to quantify the exact way in which depression arises and affects a person.
However, one thing is certain, a lot of people are sad, and it is getting worse. The rate of depression
among high school to college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over the past fifty
years. Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in the brain, which is entirely correct;
however, this is a gross oversimplification of the disease. Neurologists have identified over one
hundred different neurotransmitters, the chemicals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, temperament, the way in which an individual views the world and their unacknowledged
assumptions about how it works, also influence mood (Source 11).
Although depression is classified as a mental illness, clinical depression can produce a host of
physical and mental symptoms. Mentally, depression makes a person feel miserable, hopeless, and as
though the smallest tasks are impossible. Previously enjoyed activities often become uninteresting and
anger and stress levels can skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and aches and pains can
arise which have no apparent cause (Source 1).
The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. The MMPI, Minnesota
Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is the most widely used psychometric test for measuring adult
psychopathology in the world , and its derivatives, the updated MMPI 2 and the MMPI A that is used
in adolescents, are both widely used and accepted in the academic and psychiatric communities
(Source 4).
An alarming trend has arisen in the past fifty years in America, depression rates have increased
significantly for high school to college students. There is dispute over the exact magnitude of the
increase, with some studies reporting a fifteen to twenty percent increase in

Loss Of Self In The Wife s Lament
Anglo Saxon literature displays death, violence, and abandonment, all of which cause great conflict
within the culture. Men are always going off to defeat beings of magic and mystery. Through the
analysis of Beowulf and other famous Anglo Saxon poems, it is evident that death and abandonment
cause loss of self.
In The Wife s Lament Anglo Saxon literature displays loss of self due to abandonment . Slowly as the
poem progresses, the woman starts to lose her state of mind, exiled she experiences the betrayal of her
followers. For The Dark of My Exile (The Wife s Lament 5) A feeling of dejection.. I make this song

During the plot, the character is describing his longing of grace, and the mercy from God. Longs for
grace, for the mercy of God (The Wanderer 1/2). He is longing due to his abandonment from society,

loneliness and to lose all hope for himself. Suicidal he ponders death Dealt our deaths and for some

It is very evident throughout all of these pieces of Anglo Saxon literature, that there is a loss of self
due to abandonment. This loss of self causes one to become weary, of their surroundings. To be
paranoid, and to lose their state of minds. Nothing, helps or will aid them with this losing of self. For
they are abandoned and feel like an outsider, in Anglo Saxon Literature.
Anglo Saxon Literature displays a loss of self also due to death. Once a character dies, some may lose
themselves, by not wanting to move on. Once they have lost that one special person, or group, they
lose all hope. They feel like they have nothing left to live for and therefore, become suicidal. Moving

Gladiator Comparison
Russel Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Connie Nielsen star in Ridley Scott s famed movie, Gladiator.
This color movie, made in 2000, was based on the time period of the Roman Empire. It was written
specifically to become an action/drama movie. Gladiator was produced by David Franzoni, Branko
Lustig, and Douglas Wick, and the movie was written by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William
Nicholson. I watched Gladiator at my friend Jed s house on my computer while he was doing other
homework. In Gladiator, the power hungry emperor s son, Commodus, condemns a powerful general,
Maximus, and his family to death because the elderly emperor wanted Maximus to gain the thrown
when he died. Maximus family is killed, and he was made into a gladiator who rises to the top to try to
eventually get revenge against Commodus for his family s death. Marcus Aurelius, Lucilla and
Commodus were a real Roman family. The portrayal of Marcus Aurelius was close to true, except for
the fact that he died from natural causes, not from his son suffocating him. Marcus Aurelius was the

The Colosseum was made to look as similar as possible to the actual Colosseum. They made sure the

to help them with the facts of history they could correctly portray without disrupting the plot of the

setting could be chosen to represent the story. The dark forest at the beginning represented how the
movie would be a dark, tragic story. The sands of Africa were used to symbolize how Maximus had
lost everything, his life was like an empty desert. Finally, the richness of Rome represented how

Trotsky was internally exiled to Alma Ata in Kazakhstan on January 31, 1928, and following his
expulsion from the Soviet Union, he was deported to Turkey (Germany refused to take him) with his
wife and son in February 1929. With Trotsky gone, his supporters began to fall off and surrender to
Stalin, who had them reinstated into the Communist Party (though most would later be executed in the
Great Purges). His first station during exile was at Büyükada, near Constantinople. Trotsky stayed
there four years, despite the large number of former anti revolutionary (White Army) citizens in the
city. Trotsky had bodyguards in the form of volunteering European supporters. The French Prime
Minister Édouard Daladier offered Trotsky asylum in 1933. Trotsky then lived with his family and
bodyguards at Royan, then at Barbizon, and through secret entry into Paris (he was not allowed there,
officially), he was able to meet with various political European allies. In 1935, Trotsky moved to
Norway following a rescinding of his French asylum. He then lived with a friend (Konrad Knudsen)
near Oslo, and then was transferred to a farm in Hurum on September 2, 1936, where he was placed

Export Promotion Of Import Substitution
In the ever globalizing world of today, exports have become a fundamental ingredient in country s
growth. Many countries, especially the less developed ones , often use policies of trade liberalization
to boost up their exports. The most commonly used policy is import substitution. However, sometimes
export promotion also becomes a prominent part of country s economic policy. Unfortunately,
Pakistan has never had a consistent, coherent and well articulated trade policy. Trading patterns have
closely followed a cycle defined by a major departure from and return to protectionist import
substitution policies. For Pakistan, import substitution strategy failed to boost up the economic
performance of the country. Although, the policy of import substitution has resulted in the promotion
of industries oriented towards the domestic market by using import restrictions, through high tariffs,
quantitative restrictions, overvalued exchange rates, to encourage the replacement of imported
consumer and manufactured goods by domestic products but it was also observed that domestic
industries growing behind protective tariff walls had no incentive to become efficient in production.
Infant industries also never grew up. In addition, Import substitution policies accompanied by
exchange controls promoted the use of more capital intensive techniques of production. Just by
looking at the way Pakistan s trade policy has fluctuated from protectionism to liberalism and back
and forth repeatedly

matures later on. Her life was filled with constant violence as the government passed unusual laws to

Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics And The Rosetta Stone
Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics was one of Egypt s great mysteries that were very difficult to figure
out. Hieroglyphics are pictures or symbols that represent words, used in the writing system of ancient
Egypt. The word hieroglyphic is Greek and literally means holy writings . So it would make since that
Pharaohs names were written in hieroglyphics in their tombs because they were considered powerful
and righteous. Thus, what was the key to unlock the translation of the hieroglyphics? The Rosetta
Stone was discovered in 1799, by French soldiers who were building a fort near the Egyptian village
of Rosetta. The soldiers noticed a dark, grey stone of granite sticking out of the ground that was
attached to a wall inside of an ottoman fortress. They dug the piece of stone out and it stood about four
feet tall and two and a half feet wide. With closer examination they realized it contained lines of
writing. The soldiers notified the chief general in Egypt, Jacques Francoise Menou, because they
understood that they have discovered something valuable. Months later, the stone was shipped to
Napoleon for greater inspection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

parts of the stone had crumbled. The Rosetta Stone was engraved with two languages, Egyptian and

How Did Greek Culture Influence The Minoan Culture
In order to explain the influence the Minoan and Mycenaean cultures had on the later Greeks it is
important to understand the beginnings of Greek culture. The first known civilization of Greek culture
were the Minoans, consequently, there is not a lot of information about this group (The Flow of
History, 2007). The language used by the Minoans is referred to as Linear A, the language is said to
have been the foundation for later Greek language. The Mycenaeans broadened the Linear A language
to make it their own, it is known as Linear B.
The Minoans were thought to be a peaceful society, conversely, the Mycenaeans were geared most
toward warfare. The peacefulness of the Minoan culture is depicted in their artwork, pottery, as well as
their architecture (The Flow of History, 2007). The ruins of the palaces from the Minoans do not
display any fortification to indicate they needed to protect themselves from enemies. The weapons
used in later Greek culture was similar to the weaponry crafted by the Mycenaeans, as well as the
Minoans. The noted difference is the metal, the Minoans and the Mycenaeans crafted their weapons
with bronze the later Greeks used iron (Matthews et. al., 2014). ... Show more content on

The Third And Last Pillar Of The German Banking System Essay
Commercial Banks The third and last pillar of the German banking system consists of commercial
banks also known in the third pillar as the market discipline. The third pillar gives out more public
disclosure and reporting requirements, compared to the other two pillars, with its increased
transparency. The amount of this increased disclosure is for giving the public and also the global
market a more comprehensible vision of where the bank stands in terms of risk. (Feig) With Universal
banks being the more common type, responsible for about 75 % of all transactions carried out in the
banking sector, these banks offer a greater amount of financial services and are more varied than
services of the specialized banks. These commercial banks offer typical banking services such as
setting up and watching over clients checking and savings accounts, process their payments, lending
money to clients, and as well as issuing bonds to clients. As of today, there lies roughly about 300
private banks all throughout Germany. It was only until the crisis in 2008 where five major banks used
to dominate the whole entire private sector. These five banks were Hypovereinsbank, Deutsche
Postbank AG, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, and Dresdner Bank. Those five banks are more
internationalized than any other banks in the private sector that primarily focus on business clients and
the markets fluctuation activities. (Hassan) During the crisis in 2008, the bigger banks that Germany

Utilitarianism Is Inconsistent With The Demands Of Friendship
Friendship requires partiality and altruism. If one aims to build a friendship, s/he must show partiality
by making sacrifices that benefit this friend in lieu of maximizing pleasure for all. Utilitarianism
requires persons to act only in ways that benefit hedonic utility maximizing pleasure while minimizing
pain. Utilitarianism forgoes partiality and requires that an individual only commit actions that benefit
the greater good. Thus, friendship an act that requires partiality and Utilitarianism an act that requires
impartiality cannot coexist. This raises problems for the utilitarian because many persons would agree
that friendship serves an integral function in any human life. It seems that no ethical framework
should require persons to forgo anything central to our understanding of life as Utilitarianism might. A
person who wholly espouses Utilitarianism cannot serve as a good friend because the two contradict
each other. Utilitarianism requires one to act impartially while friendship builds its foundation on
partiality.
Roadmap:
In this essay, I will argue for Shafer Landau s suggestion that Utilitarianism is inconsistent with the
demands of friendship. First, I will assert that a true utilitarian cannot also act as a true friend as result
of the two having conflicting and contradictory ends. Next, I will object my original argument using
the claim that Utilitarianism does often suggest that persons offer preference to their friends and
family. Finally, I

  • 2. Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary. Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible. Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony. Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would never be out of tune with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Film Review of Blades of Glory Essay Blades of Glory, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is a hilarious comedy that turns figure skating into one big joke. This movie was so over the top, it was over over the top, but it kept the whole theater laughing throughout the entire movie, which is exactly what it was made to do. The movie s plot is not very intricate, but it really doesn t need to be. It s about 2 Men s Singles Figure Skaters that are the complete opposites of each other. Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) is the notorious bad boy in figure skating, he s very sexual and all the ladies swoon over him. Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) is the good boy that pays attention to technical detail and precision. These two skaters compete against each other and end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They fight again and both get arrested. Jimmy s former coach (Craig T. Nelson) ends up getting them out of jail and recommends they be partners. Both say no at first, but they end up doing it, bickering and fighting the entire time. They sign up for the Olympic try out, which causes a stir in all the news and gets under the skin of the main Doubles Skaters, Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler). Both Doubles teams make it to the Olympics, and the Van Waldenberg s do everything in their power to ensure they come out with the Gold Medal. They cheat, spy, and try to harm Chazz and Jimmy, but are unsuccessful. Chazz and Jimmy make it in times to skate during their turn, and perform stunts that have never been done successfully before. They end up winning the Gold Medal and the Van Waldenberg s end up getting arrested. As mentioned before, the plot is not very intricate. And you basically know the ending of the film before it even starts. But it doesn t matter because everything that happens in the movie is just so funny. For example, seeing Will Ferrell on ice skates and thought of as a sex symbol was hilarious on its own because its so ridiculous. But then having Craig T. Nelson playing a character simply called Coach , Jimmy having a gay stalker that says he will kill Jimmy one day to his face, a former professional ice skater, Scott Hamilton, actually acting ... • 4. Alcohol And Hepatocellular Tumor The liver is the organ responsible for filtering chemicals and metabolizing drugs. It also makes proteins responsible for blood clotting and other functions. When alcohol reaches the liver, it produces a dangerous enzyme known as acetaldehyde. The liver needs water to do its basic functions. Alcohol acts as a diuretic and dehydrates the body, depriving the liver of the water it needs to function. When acetaldehyde and other alcoholic toxins build up in the liver, they can cause a variety of health problems. One of the most commonly known problems of the liver caused by alcohol is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer. There are other types of liver cancers, such as cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct, and hepatic angiosarcoma, a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor. Both of these cancers are not caused by alcohol abuse. HCC is caused by cirrhosis or other long term damage to the liver. Cirrhosis is most often caused by alcohol abuse, hemochromatosis, or a hepatitis B or C infection. Symptoms of HCC include abdominal pain, easy bruising, enlarged abdomen, jaundiced skin or eyes, and unexplained weight loss. Many tests are ordered to diagnosis liver ... ABSTRACT Natural products are invaluable resource of anticancer drug discovery. They generally viewed as safe but weak, within the framework of nanotechnology, they can serve as template for potent anticancer drugs. We first evaluated the cytotoxic activity of different propolis extracts (water, hydroalcohol, ethanol and hexane) in many cancer cell lines, then the solid nanoparticles from the organic solvent extracts were prepared and their cytotoxicity was evaluated as well. Finally, 1,2 dipalmitoyl sn glycero 3 phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1,2 dioleoyl sn glycero 3 phosphocholine (DOPC) liposomes were prepared from the most cytotoxic organic solvent extract and their cytotoxicity was also evaluated. All results collectively showed that hexane extract and its solid nanoparticles as well as its liposomal form exhibited high cytotoxic activity. • 6. Buddhist Ethnography Essay The Buddhist Experience Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the actions of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set foot in a Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my stereotypical thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average Joe, American man. Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to sum up the Buddhist religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people. First, Buddhism. Buddhism is a religion based off of the idea that there is a path that one can take to achieve enlightenment, instead of believing in a god or multiple gods. Buddhism began with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Eight folds are: Right understanding, Right thought, Right speech, Right action, Right livelihood, Right effort, Right mindfulness, and Right concentration. This is the way that everyone should live if they want to achieve enlightenment along the Buddhist path. This is not the only thing that Siddhartha taught though. Like every single religion since the beginning of time, there is a list of rules. Christianity has the 10 Commandments, Islam has the Five Pillars of Islam, and Buddhism has the Religious Reformations of Buddha. Unlike most religions, Buddhism strays from the focus on an all mighty deity or deities. Buddhism preaches five different logics that deviate from the norm when it comes to religious ideals: first, Strive after enlightenment with due diligence. This means you must put a lot of effort into the job of enlightenment if you wish to achieve it. Second, there will be no metaphysical theorizing. This is the one that seems to throw a wrench into the ideals of every religion before it, there is no God and if you even think that there is a God, you are disgracing the Buddhist way of life. Buddhism is a way of life, it is not a religion with a holy God. Third, there is no tradition, no ritual. • 7. The Righteousness Of Any Church The righteousness of any church, especially one separate of a denomination, is not how it is structured nor what title it is named, but rather how faithfully it abides by to the instructions of Holy Scripture. There doesn t exist a church that is infallible, because churches are made of mere humans who are adept in error. Even the Apostles, with all the favors of Spiritual Gifts that God bestowed upon them, were not devoid of mistakes. When it comes to anything that has to do with a corporate relationship with God and their collective love, worship, and praise for Him, we always take our direction from the Word which has all authority in our lives and the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. When speaking of corporate worship, we must begin with a criterion imparted by both Old and New Testaments: Father God only receives veneration presented within a Covenant context. One genuine description of worship that seeks to be scriptural, needs to initially recognize that worship is distinctive in that it is a glorification of both individual and corporate covenant bond with the Lord God Almighty. The expression covenant merely pronounces an unambiguous relationship between two entities, in this instance El Shaddai and His created beings. The relationship has clearly defined prerequisites and commitments. Sometimes both entities to the covenant must keep all the commitments for the covenant to remain in force (a conditional covenant) while at other times God promises to ... • 8. Comparing The Map Model And The Skyscraper Model 1. Compare and contrast the Skyscraper Model and the culture as a Map model. Which do you prefer and why? The Skyscraper model divides culture in to high and low. This is superior products at the top and inferior ones at the bottom. The high culture is known as the fine art group. Examples of high culture (the top of the tower) is ballet and the syphomy. The low culture is known as the junk group. The low culture (the bottom of the tower) is rock music and video games. The Skyscraper model has allowed critics to develop five areas of concern: inability to appreciate fine art, a tendency to exploit high culutre, a throway ethic, a diminishing audience for high culture, and dulling our cultural taste buds. The second model is the Map Model. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The show never interested me. I think a show that is universally trashy is the Jerry Springer show. I am pretty sure they give that show in other countries. A show that I think is universally in good taste is Grey s Anatomy. I know a lot of people who are obsessed with that show and it can be educational. I have not seen it myself, but apparently it goes in depth on medical practices. 3. • 9. Diffusion Investigation Data Analysis: With this experiment, the affect of surface area to volume ratio on the rate of diffusion is investigated. Four agars containing phenolphthalein, an indicator that turns colorless in acid, each ranging in size were used. In this experiment, the agar cubes represent cells and the time it took for cubes to turn colorless shows the rate of diffusion. Next, the cubes were placed in a beaker and just enough hydrochloric acid was added to cover them. Then, the time it took them to turn colorless was measured. It was observed that when volume increases, so does the surface area, but more so. For example, the volume of the smallest cube was 0.125cm3 while it s surface are was 1.5 cm2. The difference of volumes between the smallest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most importantly, it s very hard to give exact measurements for the agar cubes. Therefore, each group could have had varying sizes of cubes or the size could have differed from the one we said it was. For example, the cube with the dimension of 1cm could have been more or less than that. To improve the accuracy, we can use an electronic balance to make sure that the cubes with the same dimensions have the same mass to ensure that their sizes are equal. Moreover, we didn t measure the amount of hydrochloric acid we put into the beakers within the groups as the only instruction we got was to pour it in until the cubes are covered. Having varied amounts of hydrochloric acid became a source of error in the experiment. Next time, we should put the same amount of hydrochloric acid into the beakers. We can do this by using a measuring cylinder. Furthermore, not taking into account the possibility of an outlier became a source of error in the experiment. Not taking out the outlier from the data or repeating it for that specific one will wrongly influence the average, which in turn will influence the standard deviation. This could lead us to think that the experiment was more or less reliable than it actually was. For example, for the cubes with 1cm dimension, one of the values was 209 seconds while the others were 596,790, 720,750 and 841 seconds. This suggests that an error has been made in that ... These female characters are demonized as ball cutters because they do not adhere to traditional female roles and they emasculate the male characters(Kesey 54). The Failure Of Vocation Limited Essay 1 IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM This essay exposits the failure of Vocation Limited to draft how might a more appropriate application of the eight ASX Corporate Governance Principles (ASX, 2014, p. 4) have conceivably prevented the failure. Corporate failure is referred to insolvency in Australia, which means the inability to meet the due debt obligations, resulting in business suspension (Michaela, Patricia, Susan, Kimberly, Matthew, 2012, p. 365). Corporate governance denotes to the system by which corporations are directed and controlled (Michaela et al., 2012, p. 188). Therefore, by applying the six main causes (Hamilton Micklethwait, 2006, p. 1) and the eight principles (ASX, 2014, p. 4), the scope of the essay is limited to the company prospective without consideration of external issues. • 12. The Consequences Of The Oscar Pistorius Trial The Oscar Pistorius Trial Everyone is prone to making errors of expression and perspective in our everyday lives. However, at times these mistakes can be more costly. One such case is the Pistorius trial, where Oscar Pistorius committed the errors of contradiction, appeal to emotion, and unwarranted assumptions. In addition, his lawyer Barry Roux also committed the fallacy of appeal to emotions to completely mitigate his client of any responsibly. Moreover, the Judge Masipa in this case committed the error of unwarranted assumption by over sympathizing with Oscar Pistorius, which lead to the sentencing he received. Therefore, one need to think critically about the consequences of this actions. According to the BBC News Mr. Pistorius claimed in the trial, that on February 14, 2013 he accidently killed his girlfriend. In the trial BBC news reported that Mr. Pistorius and his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp had dinner at 7:00 p.m. Then, they went to sleep around 9:00 or 10:00. p.m. Sometime, in the early morning hours his girlfriend had woken up and asked him, if he was having trouble sleeping. Mr. Pistorius indicated that he had trouble sleeping and went to get some fans from the balcony. Upon reentering he heard noise coming from the bathroom and he thought that someone was trying to break into their home. • 18. The Supreme Court Of India 1. INTRODUCTION Most social movements in India since the 1970s have actively used the Courts especially the Supreme Court as a part of their struggles. This has been possible because of the higher Courts activism, especially under the guidance and action of Public Interest Litigation. Through the instrument of Public Interest Litigation, the Court liberated itself from traditional constraints in the legal system so as to reach out to the weaker sections of Indian humanity. The Supreme Court of India has adopted a forward looking approach since last few years, particularly having regard to the socio economic conditions prevailing in the country. In fact there are two kinds of approaches which characterise the functioning of the highest Court in every democracy. Either the Court adopts an activist approach or resigns itself to passive role. In a country like India, judges adopt an activist approach to bring about social and economic change and to improve the life conditions of the people and make basic human rights available to them. The Supreme Court has revolved a new doctrine of judicial activism with a view of making basic human rights meaningful and effective for the deprived and exploited sections of humanity. Judiciary is the third wing of the Government empowered to administer justice to the people of India. The Courts are protectors of an individual s Fundamental and Legal Rights when they are violated. Trading patterns have closely followed a cycle defined by a major departure from and return to protectionist import substitution policies. For Pakistan, import substitution strategy failed to boost up the economic performance of the country. Although, the policy of import substitution has resulted in the promotion of industries oriented towards the domestic market by using import restrictions, through high tariffs, quantitative restrictions, overvalued exchange rates, to encourage the replacement of imported consumer and manufactured goods by domestic products but it was also observed that domestic industries growing behind protective tariff walls had no incentive to become efficient in production. Erosion is the process of transportation of this sediment which on sea cliffs sediments becomes part of the seafloor and is washed away with the waves. The larger rocks that are broken off by sediment as shown in this picture are called scree or talus; scree builds up at the bottom of cliffs as the rocks tumble down, these piles are called scree slopes or talus piles. Another important thing to mention in this picture is the vegetation that is growing on top of the cliff since it is so close to the coastal line. This picture is only a glimpse into what surrounds these cliffs since there are many different landmarks and lithosphere actions considering it is close to the san andreas fault, the monteray bay fault and the palo calorado ... • 35. How Did Greek Culture Influence The Minoan Culture In order to explain the influence the Minoan and Mycenaean cultures had on the later Greeks it is important to understand the beginnings of Greek culture. The first known civilization of Greek culture were the Minoans, consequently, there is not a lot of information about this group (The Flow of History, 2007). The language used by the Minoans is referred to as Linear A, the language is said to have been the foundation for later Greek language. The Mycenaeans broadened the Linear A language to make it their own, it is known as Linear B. The Minoans were thought to be a peaceful society, conversely, the Mycenaeans were geared most toward warfare. The peacefulness of the Minoan culture is depicted in their artwork, pottery, as well as their architecture (The Flow of History, 2007). The ruins of the palaces from the Minoans do not display any fortification to indicate they needed to protect themselves from enemies. The weapons used in later Greek culture was similar to the weaponry crafted by the Mycenaeans, as well as the Minoans. The Third And Last Pillar Of The German Banking System Essay Commercial Banks The third and last pillar of the German banking system consists of commercial banks also known in the third pillar as the market discipline. The third pillar gives out more public disclosure and reporting requirements, compared to the other two pillars, with its increased transparency. The amount of this increased disclosure is for giving the public and also the global market a more comprehensible vision of where the bank stands in terms of risk. (Feig) With Universal banks being the more common type, responsible for about 75 % of all transactions carried out in the banking sector, these banks offer a greater amount of financial services and are more varied than services of the specialized banks. These commercial banks offer typical banking services such as setting up and watching over clients checking and savings accounts, process their payments, lending money to clients, and as well as issuing bonds to clients. As of today, there lies roughly about 300 private banks all throughout Germany. It was only until the crisis in 2008 where five major banks used to dominate the whole entire private sector. These five banks were Hypovereinsbank, Deutsche Postbank AG, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, and Dresdner Bank. Those five banks are more internationalized than any other banks in the private sector that primarily focus on business clients and the markets fluctuation activities. (Hassan) During the crisis in 2008, the bigger banks that Germany came to rely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Utilitarianism Is Inconsistent With The Demands Of Friendship Friendship requires partiality and altruism. If one aims to build a friendship, s/he must show partiality by making sacrifices that benefit this friend in lieu of maximizing pleasure for all. Utilitarianism requires persons to act only in ways that benefit hedonic utility maximizing pleasure while minimizing pain. Utilitarianism forgoes partiality and requires that an individual only commit actions that benefit the greater good. Thus, friendship an act that requires partiality and Utilitarianism an act that requires impartiality cannot coexist. This raises problems for the utilitarian because many persons would agree that friendship serves an integral function in any human life. It seems that no ethical framework should require persons to forgo anything central to our understanding of life as Utilitarianism might. A person who wholly espouses Utilitarianism cannot serve as a good friend because the two contradict each other. Utilitarianism requires one to act impartially while friendship builds its foundation on partiality. Roadmap: In this essay, I will argue for Shafer Landau s suggestion that Utilitarianism is inconsistent with the demands of friendship. First, I will assert that a true utilitarian cannot also act as a true friend as result of the two having conflicting and contradictory ends. Next, I will object my original argument using the claim that Utilitarianism does often suggest that persons offer preference to their friends and family. Finally, I ...
