Younger Dryas Research Paper
The area of which I decided to focus on was specifically parts of Scotland which were eroded and
shaped but the effects of the Younger Dryas. This period of glacial activity occurred around 10,800
10,600 BP and was the last great real push of ice activity in the British Isles starting around loch
Lomond and fanning out across Scotland. The ice itself covered a large part of Britain as lowered
temperatures of around 2 6 degrees Celsius allowed the ice to remain, locking in large amounts of sea
water and shaping the landscape as it moved across the land, creating U shape valleys and other
glacial features such as drumlins. It wasn t until temperatures increased that the ice began to retreat
and the landscape below was revealed, highlighting the true carving force that ice has. ... Show more

The glacier itself is controlled throughout a year by its balance, a summer balance combined with a
winter balance. In the winter there is heavy snowfall, so large amounts of accumulation with little
amounts of ablation. On the flip side when it comes to summer there is large amounts of ablation and
a small amount of accumulation, the mass of a glaciers depends on the accumulation and ablation it
suffers throughout the year. If the glaciers is cold based it freezes to the ground making it hard to
move and in turn erode the landscape, most if not all the erosion occurs in a warm based glacier. The
differing colour of each glacier is important, cold based glaciers are white in colour, with little
material being picked up but on the flip side warm based glaciers are very dirty in colour and laden
with material which helps the erosion

Management By Objectives Of Management
6. Management by Objectives
Since the early 1950 s, management by objectives has been a management principle or theory that has
been practice within both private and public sector corporations. It was first publicized by the
management expert Peter Drucker in 1954. Starbuck (2012) identified management by objectives as
Drucker s primary sources and contribution to his book The Practice of Management following the
developments of his ideas in his earlier books such as The Future of Industrial Man and Concept of
the Corporation which were published in 1942 and 1946 respectively. Subsequently, management by
objectives has gained an increasing publicity and largely influenced many industrial organisations like
Fords and General Motors amongst many others as shown in Peter Starbuck s case studies (Starbuck,
2012:99) and is currently a taught topic within the academic curriculum for areas such as management
and administration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Odiorne (1965:55 56) depicted the management by objective process as one in which the

Coming Of Age And Adolescence In The 21st Century
INTRODUCTION
The Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential identifies that the current lack of rites of
passage in modern, industrialised socities is a global problem, resulting in a serious breakdown in the
process of maturing (Grimes 2000) for adolescents moving from childhood to adulthood, specifically.
To move through adolescence in the modern, Western world is a highly individualised experience,
meaning that it differs between each individual person and also that it is a largely solitary process;
coming of age in the 21st century means learning to stand alone as a self sufficient person (Arnett,
1998) who is independently responsible for their own guidance and decision making among a wide
range of possibilities (Arnett, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that high school graduation ceremonies most closely resemble the structure and function of a
more traditional rites of passage ceremony in the modern world. However, the high school graduation
ceremony does not prepare or initiate youth with the practical skills or discernments necessary to
proceed successfully in living outside of the home (Hamitlon Hamilton, 2008); it is a superficial event
that publically acknowledges a youth s supposed maturing but neglects to include, generally, any of
the practical work of identity building that was a central facet of traditional ceremonies. High school
graduation ceremonies serve only to signify an academic success or a coming of age, but the popular
notion that maturity means to be academically successful or to reach a particular age alone misses the
most important part of the process, which is that work is

The Effects Of Parental Parents On Children
Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. Charles R. Swindoll.
Not knowing if those memories are positive or negative. Each day parents wake up with hope that
they can provide for their children s necessities. There are different kinds of parents some are good for
their children but some are not. Most parents raise their kids the way their own parents raised them,
whether it was good or bad. Some parents are too protective; they are hard to get along with. Laid
back parents make teenager s lives simple and joyful because the parents are there to support their
children when they need it, without questioning. Then there are the parents who do nothing in
providing for their child, neglecting parents, which can result to teenagers getting into bad
circumstances. Parents are supposed to support and nurture their children; but if they do not do it
properly, there can be serious effects in their children s future.
Having protective parents can make the life of teenagers difficult. Protective parents demand that their
children obey them and that they follow rules. These parents mean their best but that is especially hard
for teenagers to understand because adolescence is a time when changes happen; teenagers are starting
to have their own opinions, which are probably opposite to their parents. It is hard for teenagers to
make mistakes if they have protective parents because they always expect something good to come
from their kids. Most of the

Causes Of Violent Protest During The American Revolution
1117 In a time when the first shots of the American Revolution was starting in Lexington and Concord
in 1775, and the Revolution of 1800 which ended the Federalist Party s control of American politics. It
is in this context, that the desire for change ignited with the use of violence in the new nation. Two
significant changes in violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 were the results that ensued from
the wealthy elite fearing the common people, and the enemy that the common people attacked.
Admittedly, one significant continuity in violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 was that the
rebellions were always led by ordinary people to change government to benefit themselves. In the
beginning of the period beginning in 1763, the first rebellion occurred in America, The March of the
Paxton Boys. The Paxton Boy were Scots Irish frontiersmen who created a small group in 1763 to
retaliate against the the native attacks on the western frontier of Virginia and Pennsylvania that
originated from the Pontiac s Rebellion. They retaliated because the lack of the ability of the British
Army and states militias to defend the colonist from the natives. Also Shays Rebellion was led by
common people. Daniel Shays was a Revolutionary War Veteran and led four thousand poor yeomen
farmers from western Massachusetts. Many of the Shaysite were also often Revolutionary War
veterans which were not paid of their army stipends. Because of this, and the fact the economy was in

Gandhi s Effect On The World
Gandhi s Salt march which had the Indian independence. Gandhi played a major role in the
development of nonviolence and peace activities. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was the pre eminent
political and spiritual bellwether of India and the Indian independence movement. He had many
adherents, and edified many how to protest placidly, instead of utilizing violence and war. Gandhi is a
role model for many people today and is one of the most famous of all nonviolent activists. Gandhi
made an immensely colossal impact on the world through his work. The Salt March gave the world
the idea of the use of mass nonviolence in politics. To Indians, it helped produce a Father of the
Nation. Gandhi was instrumental in freeing India from the yoke of British imperialism and
consequently started the unravelling of global colonialism. (Gandhian Nonviolence And The Salt
March).
As for Mr. Gandhi, he is confident he will begin his illegal gathering of salt at 6:30 o clock tomorrow
morning. But, as he remarked to your correspondent with a wry smile. That is to say, if I am allowed
to do so. (Gandhi Makes Salt, Defying India s Law). The Salt March, which took place in India from
12th March 1930, was an act of civil disobedience to protest British rule in India led by Mohandas
Gandhi (1869 1948). During the march, thousands of Indians followed Gandhi from his religious near

Labor and Legality Essay
Wordup Labor and Legality Essay August 9, 2011 In her book, Labor and Legality: An Ethnography
of a Mexican Immigrant Network, Ruth Gomberg Muñoz describes the lives of ten busboys, she
referrs to as the Lions, living and working in the Chicago area. Gomberg Muñoz provides an insight
into the lives of these undocumented Mexican workers. They share their stories of crossing the border,
the affects of their absence on family back in Mexico, and the daily struggles of living in a country
without the benefits of citizenship. The Lions, as well as other undocumented Mexicans, have to face
Americans stereotypes every day. Probably the biggest stereotype the Lions contend with is the belief
that all Mexicans are hard workers. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statement leads one to believe that the Lions have taken the expectations that Americans have set
for them and made them a part of their social identity. While the Lions actions may make the hard
working Mexican stereotype seem innocent enough, it can lead to employers taking advantage of
undocumented workers. Americans have a bit of a record regarding the exploitation of immigrants. In
her book Gomberg Muñoz relates how when the United States needed more workers they opened their
arms to Mexicans. However, when the economy begins to slow down, the first people asked to leave
and give up their jobs are the very same people they invited and encouraged to come. Since many
business owners were used to employing Mexicans, they still hire them although it is against laws and
regulations. Americans using undocumented Mexican workers tend to pay them less, put them in more
dangerous jobs, and make them work harder because they believe Mexicans love to work. While this
is great for America and American businesses, it is not as beneficial to the Mexicans they take
advantage of. Gomberg Muñoz s book provides the reader with an inside prospective of the lives of
undocumented Mexicans. It shows what it is like for people working to help forward themselves and
their families in Mexico and The United States. Contrary to some Americans belief that Mexicans
want to take over the United States, the majority of the Lions just

The Impacts And Benefits Of Ecotourism To Costa Rica
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts and benefits of ecotourism to Costa Rica in the
perspective of the environment, local community and development of tourism sustainability; the ways
ecotourism creates awareness of the importance of natural and cultural conservation; and the
prospective benefits and risks of ecotourism to Costa Rica in term of the local community, the
biodiversity and the environment.
2.0 The Impacts and Benefits of Ecotourism to Costa Rica As tourism is clearly going mainstream in
Costa Rica currently, it must have leave an impacts to the country, be it an advantages or
disadvantages to the country.
2.1 Protection of Nature As mentioned earlier, in 1983, almost half of the woodland was cut down.
But when Costa Rica began the industry of ecotourism and build more national parks and wildlife
parks, the annual deforestation rate had dropped. In 1998 the deforestation rate had dropped to zero,
and currently, the forest cover has increased to more than 50%, which doubled from 1983 (Blasiak
2011). The expansion of the protected area of the country to 30% had saved many areas from being
used for logging, farming or mining, which will cause a lot of flora and fauna to extinct, given that
Costa Rica is the home to estimated more than 850 of bird ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To point it out, with the overflowing amount of tourists coming in to Costa Rica, new hotels, facilities
and infrastructures will have to be built. As a result, disturbance of wildlife and vegetation damage
will happen, and as a matter of fact, in the Manuel Antonio area, this has already cause biodiversity
losses and it is expected that the same will happen to the Monteverde region not far in the future

Looking Into the Past in Vonnegut s Slaughter House Five
In the spring of 1945, near the end of World War II, American and British bombers rained a hail of fire
upon the city of Dresden, Germany. With an estimated 135,000 dead, Dresden is known as one of the
deadliest attacks in History, nearly twice as many deaths than the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Kurt
Vonnegut was among the few who lived through the firestorm; he wrote a book about it in fact.
Slaughter House Five (1969) is a fictional recount of his experience of the war. Many of the events (at
least the parts set in WWII) are real experiences of Kurt. The people in the war are, for the most part,
real; Vonnegut just changes all the names. The main character, however does not ... Show more

This isn t Billy s first travel through time, just the most important. Back in Germany, the American
troops arrive at what will be their lodging for the next few days. The Americans eventually move to a
prison in Dresden. They are put to work, going on with their prisoner lives in what some seems to be a
peaceful German city during the war. Of course, there is no surprise when the sirens shriek and planes
fly by, dropping their deadly arsenal on the city below. Billy and a few other men live through the
bombing and find the city as desolate as the moon.
Slaughter House Five is obviously an anti war book, but there s more to it than that. Vonnegut believes
that the human trait of looking back can make us aware of our problems (such as war) and, hopefully,
be able to fix them in the future.
From the beginning to the end, Billy never stops time traveling. He travels to times ranging from his
childhood to his death and back again. Billy s time travels aren t like time travel that you normally
think of, with the time machines and the parallel time lines (think Back to the Future: Part Two.)
When Billy travels through time, he just starts living different parts of his life. Everyone in their mind
looks back at the past, and goes over and over and over mistakes that they made or traumatic events
that occurred in their life. For some people, these moments in their minds can be as real as if they
were living them over again,

Analysis of Music and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra
I found out the performance from the enterprise quartet s website.Which is a university based
ensemble featuring members of Music and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. The reason why I
choose this performance is because since young, I have developed a strong affection in classical
music. Unlike other people who prefer European piano songs composed by Beethoven and Mozart, I
enjoy music of both Chinese and European styles and I want to found out the difference between a
traditional Chinese concert and western style concert.
I went to the concert with my friends. The concert is set up at whitemud crossing library. The

The Makings of Frida Kahlo Essay
It is impossible to separate the life and work of this extraordinary person, her paintings are her
biography. This was announces in 1953 by a local critic after her one and only solo exhibition in
Mexico (www.fridakahlo.com). Frida Kahlo was not only a magnificent painter, but also a
representation of her birth country Mexico, through her meaningful paintings. While in the midst of
nobody but herself, Frida found great inspiration to paint during the early to mid 1900 s. Her passion
for painting came from her traffic accident as a teenager, which left her paralyzed due to fractures in
her spine and pelvis. Even before the traffic accident, she contracted polio at the age of six in the
suburbs of Mexico City where she grew up. Her image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This accident caused life threatening injuries including: fractures to her spine, collarbone and ribs, a
shattered pelvis, and shoulder and foot injuries ( A Tribute to Frida Kahlo ). Not only did those brutal
injuries occur, but a metal bar within the bus also pierced through her abdomen and uterus causing
many birth defects down the road. The recovery made by the strong spirited Frida Kahlo was
remarkable.
Frida attended a National Preparatory School in 1922 hoping to become a doctor. At the same school,
she saw Diego Rivera, painting The Creation ( Biography.com ). Frida was inspired and approached
Diego with her compliments. He told her to go home and return with a painting in one week for him to
judge. When she did as he asked, he was very impressed with her artistic ability and they became
close ( Frida Kahlo: Biography ). Their relationship progressed and then Frida got into her terrible bus
accident.
Painting was the artistic escape route for Kahlo s mind and body. To occupy her mind after the more
than 30 surgeries, she began to paint as part of her recovery process. Fifty five of her one hundred and
forty three paintings were self portraits. These paintings were purposely painted in a naïve way to
show vulnerability ( A Tribute to Frida Kahlo ). A few of her most famous works include: Self Portrait

The Impact Of British Art On The World Of Art And...
British art is respected across the world for it s unique techniques and skills used for painting. A lot of
artist from around the world visit Britain for it s thick culture in the world of art and opportunities.
Almost all Minority art made in Britain falls into one of the two baskets, either it is created by an artist
from an African American/ Caribbean origin, or by the common people of the Indian sub continental
background. Despite of the attempts made to accumulate these two inconsequential groups together, in
order to promote, what Britain still identifies as Black art , what they bring to the world of art is
radically divergent, mostly because of their origin s personal crisis as well as due to their history of
struggle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherness in the field of art in some regions is not being identified and appreciated as it should be.
Fixity has now become a way of practicing culture, where racial differences in the discourse of
colonialism, is a incongruous methodology of representation. Fixity gives a feeling of firmness and an
unchanging order as well as disorder, immortality and daemonic repetition of racism in art naturally.
Similarly, the racial and gender stereotype, that is reflected in the way of art and it s analysis, is a
major rambling blueprint, in the manifestation of identification as well as of consciousness, that
wavers between different opinions of what is conscientiously being repeated, always in a fixed state
and something that has already been known for a long period of time. Therefore, it is the force of
ambivalence that gives racial stereotype it s prevalence, and that shield s it s repeatability in changing
historical events and in it s wandering case.
Art is known to be region based, but a lot of artist now prefer going to a different nation and grasp a
different technique and skills. But when it comes to opportunities, for example; an Indian origin or
South Asian origin artist may be at a greater disadvantage as compared to the white artist in British
society, mainly because of an unchallenged racial intolerance or partiality, and also because of the
history of British colonies in Asia. History

like they are important and shows them they are making a valued contribution. If what you re told
relates to a forthcoming event, such as a birthday or holiday, remembering this for the next time you

By being approachable and a good listener it gives the child confidence to speak to the individual
should there be anything wrong where they need to confide in someone.
Conversely, if the Teaching Assistant is in a bad mood, possibly conveyed by poor body language, or
if they are distracted when a child is talking, thereby giving mixed messages, it can have a negative
impact on the child. If a child is talking and the Teaching Assistants body language shows they are not

they are not interested in what the child has to say and the child may not bother taking the time to
speak to the Teaching Assistant again in the future.

Black Fate- Analysis of Aeschylus The Persians
Aeschylus play, The Persians, took place at the Persian Royal Palace in Susa. It depicted the emotional
response of the Persian Elders, the Queen Mother Atossa, a herald, King Xerxes, and the ghost of
Darius upon hearing the news of the Persian defeat at the Battle of Salamis against the Greeks. The
play began with a conversation amongst the Persians elders about their war with the Greeks. They
possessed grave trepidations because of a lack of news from the front. This fear stemmed from the
great risk King Xerxes took by calling all the heroes and soldiers of the Persian Empire to fight in
Greece. At first, they were confident of their victory, describing their forces as an unconquerable
ocean of men . However, their fear persisted of their forces decimation. Later on, the Queen Mother,
Atossa appeared before the Elders with an ominous vision. She acquired about the land and
personality of the Greeks while the Elders reassured her of their army s success. When Atossa was
about to leave to make sacrifices to the gods, a herald entered the palace with horrific news. The
Persian forces was decimated by the smaller Greek forces at the Salamis, almost all of their heroes
were dead, but Xerxes was still alive. Upon hearing the description of the battle s carnage, the Elders
and the Queen Mother broke out into agony and mourned the loss of their men at Salamis. The group
professes how the Persians were cursed with Black Fate , and the gods willed the victory of the

Microbiology Of The Ancient Times Essay
MICROBIOLOGY IN THE ANCIENT TIMES Gone are the days when the scientists used the Liquid
media for the study of microorganisms and used to grow them in the laboratories. Above all, when
they had to segregate the microorganisms to study and gather information on the individual growth
pattern and characteristics, the liquid media was not useful at all. In 1881, Robert Koch used
aseptically cut slices of the potato as a solid culture medium which was supplemented with gelatin
which was poured and allowed to solidify. This Technique however helped them to identify the
discrete colonies of the microorganisms. Gelatin did not solidify during the summer and therefore Dr.
Hesse came up with the concept of using agar agar as the medium and this revolutionised the
Microbiological Sciences. These methods however were very time consuming, difficult to study the
discrete characteristics of the microorganisms and made it necessary to sub culture in the additional
media. NEED OF THE HOUR For these reasons we need to develop approaches to the detection,
quantification and identification of the microorganisms. This is especially important in the food
manufacturing industries as a quality risk management. We need quick methods which can help in
efficient monitoring of the manufacturing processes and also helps to ensure the proper state of control

The production was very conscientious about realism, the actors were always of the same nationality
as their characters, and spoke in their native languages, leading to a lot of subtitles translating French
and German dialogue. Although the movie was historically correct, it was also meant to be a
blockbuster by starring John Wane, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery and Henry Fonda. But The
American role in the invasion is not exaggerated, and the German soldiers and officers are not
portrayed as brutal stereotypes.

Given consideration that the film was made in early sixties these things are easily forgiven. The movie
did a very good job in focusing on Omaha beach where the allies had encountered most resistance. It
was the most restricted and heavily defended of all beaches. The Allies had assigned one veteran
division to this beach. Germans were fighting furiously to defend the beach, and the invasion of
Omaha was very close to failure, but due to grate leadership, the Allis were able to get inland. There
were 2 400 casualties in the fist 2 hours. The movie also showed the other four beaches but it didn t
focus on them as much as Omaha beach, and the air drop.
12000 aircraft supported the land invasion force, the plan was to divide the German forces, to ease the
landing on the beaches. The paratroops were suppose to be dropped off in a small aria between the
city, which was occupied by Germans, and the swamp aria, which was purposely flooded by the
Germans, and flank them. The movie did an amazing job in reproducing this event. Due to the bad
weather the man got scattered all over the place, people fell into wells, landed in trees, fell through the
roofs, and many had drowned in the swamp. One part of the movie shows an English solder landing in
a courtyard full of German solders. He was immediately apprehended and taken to German

The Worldcom Whistleblower Case
While, Theranos has appeared recently in the news and is definitely a sign that whistleblowers are
needed and companies are still willing t
o bend the rules with complete disregard of the consequences,
which are much larger than simply fines. The Worldcom whistleblower case is incredibly important
because it is often viewed as one case that a whistleblower changed corporate America. The
Worldcom case led to legislature changes and the creation of Sarbanes Oxley Act and even the
creation of many internal controls within corporate America s organizations. I think the Worldcom
whistleblower was not only a positive for that business, which closing of a business can be a positive
in the light of poor ethics, but the effects were a positive essentially for corporate America across the
board.
Currently, a large problem exists with organizations flirting with the line of ethics as a result of strict

As seen recently with Theranos to Edward Snowden. Edward Snowden is in a different country under

experienced up to $400K in legal fees for whistleblowing and separation with his grandfather. His
parents were debating selling their home to cover the legal fees. These two situations prove that there
is little to no protection for whisteblowers. Overall, there is nothing that would make more individuals
feel safe exposing a company. This should be a huge concern, as preventing unethical behavior should
be a huge priority. When companies are damaged by unethical behavior or even close, a lot of harm is
caused that more than likely could have been prevented. Corporate America needs to decide if ethics

Racial Identity
Introduction:
As someone who identifies as a multi racial woman, I have found that my racial location in society has
been different based on who I am around. I am of lighter skin, and I have acknowledged I am more
privileged than a woman who is darker than me. As a multi racial woman, I at times have had to make
sure I fit in based on who I was surrounded by. I am aware that in ways I do benefit from white
privilege, but in a lot of ways I am still put into the subordinate group by the dominate racial groups. I
fully became aware of my racial identity as a child, going to a predominately white elementary school.
After my encounters with some of the peers and teachers at this school, I became aware that I was
different , and for the first time not feeling fully accepted into my peer groups.
Dominant/subordinate spectrum:
As stated before I identify as a multi racial woman. I am African American, White, and Lebanese.
Racially I can fall into both subordinate and dominate groups. I am a lighter skinned, multi racial
woman, and in many ways, have been treated differently compared to those who have a darker skin
tone. Because lighter skin is viewed as more acceptable, I have been treated better by the dominant
racial group. The fact that my skin is lighter does put me at the higher end of the dominant spectrum. I
am taken more seriously, because my skin is lighter, I am more legitimate in the eyes of some.
Although my skin is lighter I am still placed into the subordinate

Global Cultural Business Analysis of India
Global Business Cultural Analysis of India
BUSI 604: International Business
The nation that I have chosen for this Global Business Cultural Analysis research project is India.
India has one of the fastest growing and largest economies despite being one of the poorest countries.
India has emerged as the world s third largest economy, in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP),
just behind the U.S. and China, according to a report from the World Bank (Bawaba, 2014). The
academic reason in which I chose India is that it is very interesting in how one of the poorest countries
in the world has developed to be in the position of third largest economy.

The nation of India operates on a caste system which is a form of social class structure from birth. For
example, if you were born poor you will always be poor and vice versa. The caste system in India is
quite rigorous, boasting 3,000 castes and 25,000 subcastes; memberships range between the hundreds
and the millions. India s caste system originated in Hinduism, but other religious groups in India
subscribe to similar systems (Gale 2001). Word Count: 90
How do both the above items compare with US culture and business? There are some differences in
conducting business in the United States compared to India and other countries. Building business
relationships in a foreign country takes time, emphasize etiquette experts. In the U.S. where time is
money (and both are often in short supply), business deals are secured overnight (Tulshyan 2010). In
India and other countries the business contracts may take several weeks to achieve, due to they do not
perceive time the way Americans do and in the additional business encounter s trust is being

What are the implications for US businesses that wish to conduct business in that region? Before the
United States chooses to do business with India, they need to ensure they are familiar with the
religion, culture and etiquette. These factors play a large role in India s diverse and

Abraham Flexner s Medical Education Reform
Abraham Flexner was one of the most influential advocates of medical education reform in the United
States. Born to German Jewish immigrants on November 13, 1866 in Louisville, Kentucky, Flexner
attended Johns Hopkins and earned a bachelor s degree in 1886. Once earning his bachelor s degree,
Flexner returned to Kentucky to teach Latin and Greek at the high school in Louisville. In 1890
Flexner opened Mr. Flexner s School , his own private college preparatory school based on the idea
that there would be no formal curriculum, no examinations, and the students would not be graded on,
nor any academic records kept of their work. Remarkably, the school stood out at preparing students
for prestigious colleges (Institute for Advanced Study, n.d.). Flexner closed his school in 1905 and
returned to college where he received his master s degree from Harvard in 1906.
Flexner wrote a book entitled The American College in 1908 which was highly critical of American
universities and their teaching methodology. Flexner s book gained attention from Dr. Henry S.

The Pros And Cons Of Language Pedagovation
Kurt Lewin(1942), was known as the founder of social psychology, he also proposed the theory that
behavior of the person is generated from different interactions of the learner and his environment. He
suggested that learning should be observed holistically with relation to the psychological factors of the
learners environment and also the other factor that effect the learners behavior.
Jean Piaget s(Piaget s Duckworth, 1970), genetic epistemology also finds a relation between the
learning process and the interaction with the environment. Piaget s theory denies this factor that the
knowledge already exists in the society or it is inborn characteristic of the learner.

The concept of language motivation already exists and adds nothing new in the acculturation and
language motivation or in the existing knowledge.
Then in the start of 1960s to 1980s, Gardner presented and remolded the socio educational model, the
most influential model of language learning motivation in the already existing literature (Keblawi;
2009, p. 12). Through this model, Gardner (1985a, p. 8) explains language motivation as a
combination of effort plus desire to achieve the goal of learning the language plus favorable attitudes
towards learning the language .
With the further description of integrative and instrumental motivation, it refers to the wish of the
learner to interact and communicate with the natives of the target language for the assimilation of the
language. On the other hand, the instrumental motivation is described with the functional point of
view of getting a better job and handsome salary or getting the success in the examination and for
getting supremacy and good status in the society (Keblawi,

Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Before I begin my comparison, I think it is important to first
discuss Criminal Law in general. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines
conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and
that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . (Criminal Law, 2017)
Most criminal laws are defined in a statute, meaning they were enacted through legislation. Criminal

Mens Rea refers to criminal intent. Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is
required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the
final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law
for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing.
Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this
comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America
and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also
share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain
individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained
by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the
common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide
current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United
States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from
and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must abide by the
Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK relies strictly on

With a similar end of war scene in The Book Thief, after the bombings that occurred, Liesel lost the
boy she loved which is another way that the idea of innocence has been corrupted. Within this scene
the director uses a bird s eye view angle of the death of Rudy and mise en scene is also used in this
text, placing Liesel sitting with Rudy in the middle of the ruins of their street, leaving the audience to
feel heartbroken just as The Boy in Striped Pyjamas does with the death of both boys. Although, the
friendship between child protagonists in The Book Thief, Liesel and Rudy, starts as an innocent
friendship and remains that way through most of the film, their friendship is explored through playful
love whereas the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is explored through boundaries and
restrictions to their freedom, being stuck on opposite sides of the fence. Another friendship that occurs
is the friendship between Liesel and a Jewish man named Max that her family is hiding under their
basement. In this friendship, Liesel herself symbolises innocence which enables Max to find the
strength to survive. The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, however, does not include another important
friendship to the main protagonist, it only focuses on the unlikely friendship between a Jew and a boy
with a commander for a father.

In order to do that, companies must really grill applicants during the interview process and this is
rather nerve racking for a candidate and can cause even the best employees to stumble. Mock
interviews provide students an opportunity to practice being grilled without a job being on the line. As
the old saying goes, Practice makes perfect. The interviews also help prepare the students as to how
the process will advance and what questions to expect during an interview. Many times students go
into an interview and are asked a question they have no idea how to answer such as why should we
give you the job and then are left there fumbling out a semi confident answer. Giving students an
opportunity to rehearse/practice excellent answers, mock interviews increase the likely hood of doing
well during an actual interview. One last career planning resource is ASU s career fair. This is a great
tool that needs to be used by all students well before and right before graduation. Students can attend
and this gives them a great opportunity to connect with prospective employers early on. There are
employers from everywhere that attend the ASU career fair. If a student really connects with and

this was due to the lactic acid system. It effected the pace and intensity which my body could run at
and effected my goal setting as I wanted to achieve a certain time, effecting my confidence for the
next run. This then flowed on to me having disadvantages such as a slower time but gradually over the
run it started to burn off as it is a type of energy

Metro Plus Health Plan
Working as a Case Manager (CM) for a Medicaid based Health Insurance has brought me in contact
with patients of varied cultures, languages and races. As a CM For Metro Plus Health Plan, my
responsibility is to teach High Risk pregnant women about their diseases, encourage them to stay in
care with their Primary Care Physician/Obstetricians, explain the importance of taking their
medications as prescribed, and adhering to all their providers plan of care, with the goal of
encouraging these patient s to become responsible and active participants in their own care. I have
been able to directly observe as a clinician, how cultural competence can positively impact not only
the relationship between my patients and I, but also the level of care I am able to provide. In my years
of clinical practice as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is limited healthcare services and literature that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for
culturally diverse populations. These barriers have been shown over the years to threaten how
effective care is for these populations. The healthcare system depends on nurses to facilitate services,
care plans and educate patients on various health issues. Many patients who live in these communities
have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake assessments, reading
their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional resources for this population
should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low literacy literature for these patients.
Including family members in the process will help nurses bridge the culture and linguistic gaps in
communication and care. Integrating knowledge and respect for various cultures, their belief systems,
and values will facilitate better health care compliance and yield better

Similes In Odyssey
Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct interesting and diverse female characters in his
epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into
varied and stimulating characters for Homer s universal audience through the use of various literary
techniques. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and
interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings
of Penelope whilst also performing the task of creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her
mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning
ring around him for the finish. This epic simile is used by Homer to better understand the torment and
fear felt by Penelope at the possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors, however, this
also show a level of cunning behaviour as Penelope, although unwilling to marry one of her suitors is
also reluctant to send them away. Homer also uses epithets to describe Penelope s personality further,
often referring to her as wise Penelope , cautious or careful Penelope . This offers the audience a
general and brief reminder of the type of character traits Penelope possesses, mainly that of a typical
Greek woman. Through these literary techniques, Homer creates an interesting and multi layered
female character. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to help

North American Temperate Forest
Forests are an irreplaceable part of Earths ecosystem. Every forest is unique due to flora and fauna
which houses it. They are homes for many species from simple bacteria to big carnivore animals.
Forests absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen and is a great place for recreation and biological
studies. Temperate forest of northeast United States is an example of rich diversity and harmony of
plants and animals. Unfortunately, constant growing of human population and demand for more land
for agriculture and housing leads to deforestation and destroying of the natural habitats. Deforestation
and Agriculture, are an two of many factors which have negative impact on temperate forest in
northeast United States.

Examples Of Racism In Harry Potter
In 1997, a new children s author, J.K. Rowling, released a book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher s
Stone, and took the world and the wizarding world by storm. The Harry Potter franchise, which later
went on to include seven books and eight movie adaptations, tells the story of a young wizard, named
Harry Potter, and his rag tag group of friends as they battle Lord Voldemort and his loyal followers of
Death Eaters. The books follow Harry, who at first did not know he was a wizard and had to adapt to
his new world, and his friends as they struggle to find a balance between school, relationships, and
fighting for their lives against He Who Must Not Be Named, a phrase used to describe Voldemort
because of how evil of a wizard he is. The book covers a long list of tropes such as good versus evil,
the struggle for power, and the most obvious and important the hero s journey. Although the series is
marketed as a book for children and young adults, hidden beneath the mystical and fantastical story of
Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling uses the series to tackle deeper and more meaningful topics such as racism,
ethnic cleansing, and classism. Although it is hard to find evidence of racism in the beginning of the
Harry Potter series, it becomes more evident as Harry Potter and his two best friends, Ronald Weasley
and Hermione Granger, venture outside of the Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry. The
feud between the people who are considered good and those who are considered evil

  • 2. Younger Dryas Research Paper The area of which I decided to focus on was specifically parts of Scotland which were eroded and shaped but the effects of the Younger Dryas. This period of glacial activity occurred around 10,800 10,600 BP and was the last great real push of ice activity in the British Isles starting around loch Lomond and fanning out across Scotland. The ice itself covered a large part of Britain as lowered temperatures of around 2 6 degrees Celsius allowed the ice to remain, locking in large amounts of sea water and shaping the landscape as it moved across the land, creating U shape valleys and other glacial features such as drumlins. It wasn t until temperatures increased that the ice began to retreat and the landscape below was revealed, highlighting the true carving force that ice has. ... In the winter there is heavy snowfall, so large amounts of accumulation with little amounts of ablation. On the flip side when it comes to summer there is large amounts of ablation and a small amount of accumulation, the mass of a glaciers depends on the accumulation and ablation it suffers throughout the year. If the glaciers is cold based it freezes to the ground making it hard to move and in turn erode the landscape, most if not all the erosion occurs in a warm based glacier. The differing colour of each glacier is important, cold based glaciers are white in colour, with little material being picked up but on the flip side warm based glaciers are very dirty in colour and laden with material which helps the erosion ... • 3. Management By Objectives Of Management 6. Management by Objectives Since the early 1950 s, management by objectives has been a management principle or theory that has been practice within both private and public sector corporations. It was first publicized by the management expert Peter Drucker in 1954. Starbuck (2012) identified management by objectives as Drucker s primary sources and contribution to his book The Practice of Management following the developments of his ideas in his earlier books such as The Future of Industrial Man and Concept of the Corporation which were published in 1942 and 1946 respectively. Subsequently, management by objectives has gained an increasing publicity and largely influenced many industrial organisations like Fords and General Motors amongst many others as shown in Peter Starbuck s case studies (Starbuck, 2012:99) and is currently a taught topic within the academic curriculum for areas such as management and administration. ... • 4. Coming Of Age And Adolescence In The 21st Century INTRODUCTION The Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential identifies that the current lack of rites of passage in modern, industrialised socities is a global problem, resulting in a serious breakdown in the process of maturing (Grimes 2000) for adolescents moving from childhood to adulthood, specifically. To move through adolescence in the modern, Western world is a highly individualised experience, meaning that it differs between each individual person and also that it is a largely solitary process; coming of age in the 21st century means learning to stand alone as a self sufficient person (Arnett, 1998) who is independently responsible for their own guidance and decision making among a wide range of possibilities (Arnett, ... It is said that high school graduation ceremonies most closely resemble the structure and function of a more traditional rites of passage ceremony in the modern world. However, the high school graduation ceremony does not prepare or initiate youth with the practical skills or discernments necessary to proceed successfully in living outside of the home (Hamitlon Hamilton, 2008); it is a superficial event that publically acknowledges a youth s supposed maturing but neglects to include, generally, any of the practical work of identity building that was a central facet of traditional ceremonies. High school graduation ceremonies serve only to signify an academic success or a coming of age, but the popular notion that maturity means to be academically successful or to reach a particular age alone misses the most important part of the process, which is that work is ... • 5. The Effects Of Parental Parents On Children Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. Charles R. Swindoll. Not knowing if those memories are positive or negative. Each day parents wake up with hope that they can provide for their children s necessities. There are different kinds of parents some are good for their children but some are not. Most parents raise their kids the way their own parents raised them, whether it was good or bad. Some parents are too protective; they are hard to get along with. Laid back parents make teenager s lives simple and joyful because the parents are there to support their children when they need it, without questioning. Then there are the parents who do nothing in providing for their child, neglecting parents, which can result to teenagers getting into bad circumstances. Parents are supposed to support and nurture their children; but if they do not do it properly, there can be serious effects in their children s future. Having protective parents can make the life of teenagers difficult. Protective parents demand that their children obey them and that they follow rules. These parents mean their best but that is especially hard for teenagers to understand because adolescence is a time when changes happen; teenagers are starting to have their own opinions, which are probably opposite to their parents. It is hard for teenagers to make mistakes if they have protective parents because they always expect something good to come from their kids. Most of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Causes Of Violent Protest During The American Revolution 1117 In a time when the first shots of the American Revolution was starting in Lexington and Concord in 1775, and the Revolution of 1800 which ended the Federalist Party s control of American politics. It is in this context, that the desire for change ignited with the use of violence in the new nation. Two significant changes in violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 were the results that ensued from the wealthy elite fearing the common people, and the enemy that the common people attacked. Admittedly, one significant continuity in violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 was that the rebellions were always led by ordinary people to change government to benefit themselves. In the beginning of the period beginning in 1763, the first rebellion occurred in America, The March of the Paxton Boys. The Paxton Boy were Scots Irish frontiersmen who created a small group in 1763 to retaliate against the the native attacks on the western frontier of Virginia and Pennsylvania that originated from the Pontiac s Rebellion. They retaliated because the lack of the ability of the British Army and states militias to defend the colonist from the natives. Also Shays Rebellion was led by common people. Gandhi is a role model for many people today and is one of the most famous of all nonviolent activists. Gandhi made an immensely colossal impact on the world through his work. The Salt March gave the world the idea of the use of mass nonviolence in politics. To Indians, it helped produce a Father of the Nation. Gandhi was instrumental in freeing India from the yoke of British imperialism and consequently started the unravelling of global colonialism. (Gandhian Nonviolence And The Salt March). Labor and Legality Essay Wordup Labor and Legality Essay August 9, 2011 In her book, Labor and Legality: An Ethnography of a Mexican Immigrant Network, Ruth Gomberg Muñoz describes the lives of ten busboys, she referrs to as the Lions, living and working in the Chicago area. Gomberg Muñoz provides an insight into the lives of these undocumented Mexican workers. They share their stories of crossing the border, the affects of their absence on family back in Mexico, and the daily struggles of living in a country without the benefits of citizenship. The Lions, as well as other undocumented Mexicans, have to face Americans stereotypes every day. Probably the biggest stereotype the Lions contend with is the belief that all Mexicans are hard workers. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement leads one to believe that the Lions have taken the expectations that Americans have set for them and made them a part of their social identity. While the Lions actions may make the hard working Mexican stereotype seem innocent enough, it can lead to employers taking advantage of undocumented workers. Americans have a bit of a record regarding the exploitation of immigrants. In her book Gomberg Muñoz relates how when the United States needed more workers they opened their arms to Mexicans. However, when the economy begins to slow down, the first people asked to leave and give up their jobs are the very same people they invited and encouraged to come. Since many business owners were used to employing Mexicans, they still hire them although it is against laws and regulations. Americans using undocumented Mexican workers tend to pay them less, put them in more dangerous jobs, and make them work harder because they believe Mexicans love to work. While this is great for America and American businesses, it is not as beneficial to the Mexicans they take advantage of. Gomberg Muñoz s book provides the reader with an inside prospective of the lives of undocumented Mexicans. It shows what it is like for people working to help forward themselves and their families in Mexico and The United States. Contrary to some Americans belief that Mexicans want to take over the United States, the majority of the Lions just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Looking Into the Past in Vonnegut s Slaughter House Five In the spring of 1945, near the end of World War II, American and British bombers rained a hail of fire upon the city of Dresden, Germany. With an estimated 135,000 dead, Dresden is known as one of the deadliest attacks in History, nearly twice as many deaths than the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Kurt Vonnegut was among the few who lived through the firestorm; he wrote a book about it in fact. Slaughter House Five (1969) is a fictional recount of his experience of the war. Of course, there is no surprise when the sirens shriek and planes fly by, dropping their deadly arsenal on the city below. Billy and a few other men live through the bombing and find the city as desolate as the moon. Slaughter House Five is obviously an anti war book, but there s more to it than that. Vonnegut believes that the human trait of looking back can make us aware of our problems (such as war) and, hopefully, be able to fix them in the future. From the beginning to the end, Billy never stops time traveling. He travels to times ranging from his childhood to his death and back again. Billy s time travels aren t like time travel that you normally think of, with the time machines and the parallel time lines (think Back to the Future: Part Two.) The recovery made by the strong spirited Frida Kahlo was remarkable. Frida attended a National Preparatory School in 1922 hoping to become a doctor. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherness in the field of art in some regions is not being identified and appreciated as it should be. Fixity has now become a way of practicing culture, where racial differences in the discourse of colonialism, is a incongruous methodology of representation. Fixity gives a feeling of firmness and an unchanging order as well as disorder, immortality and daemonic repetition of racism in art naturally. Similarly, the racial and gender stereotype, that is reflected in the way of art and it s analysis, is a major rambling blueprint, in the manifestation of identification as well as of consciousness, that wavers between different opinions of what is conscientiously being repeated, always in a fixed state and something that has already been known for a long period of time. Therefore, it is the force of ambivalence that gives racial stereotype it s prevalence, and that shield s it s repeatability in changing historical events and in it s wandering case. Art is known to be region based, but a lot of artist now prefer going to a different nation and grasp a different technique and skills. Above all, when they had to segregate the microorganisms to study and gather information on the individual growth pattern and characteristics, the liquid media was not useful at all. In 1881, Robert Koch used aseptically cut slices of the potato as a solid culture medium which was supplemented with gelatin which was poured and allowed to solidify. This Technique however helped them to identify the discrete colonies of the microorganisms. Gelatin did not solidify during the summer and therefore Dr. Hesse came up with the concept of using agar agar as the medium and this revolutionised the Microbiological Sciences. These methods however were very time consuming, difficult to study the discrete characteristics of the microorganisms and made it necessary to sub culture in the additional media. NEED OF THE HOUR For these reasons we need to develop approaches to the detection, quantification and identification of the microorganisms. This is especially important in the food manufacturing industries as a quality risk management. We need quick methods which can help in efficient monitoring of the manufacturing processes and also helps to ensure the proper state of control HACCP analysis therefore reducing the process variability and increasing the ... • 22. Essay on The Longest Day quot; The Longest Day quot; was a mammoth project dramatizing D day, the Allied invasion of France. It was nearly three hours in length and with an enormous ensemble cast, all playing supporting roles. The production was very conscientious about realism, the actors were always of the same nationality as their characters, and spoke in their native languages, leading to a lot of subtitles translating French and German dialogue. Although the movie was historically correct, it was also meant to be a blockbuster by starring John Wane, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery and Henry Fonda. The movie did a very good job in focusing on Omaha beach where the allies had encountered most resistance. It was the most restricted and heavily defended of all beaches. The Allies had assigned one veteran division to this beach. Germans were fighting furiously to defend the beach, and the invasion of Omaha was very close to failure, but due to grate leadership, the Allis were able to get inland. There were 2 400 casualties in the fist 2 hours. The movie also showed the other four beaches but it didn t focus on them as much as Omaha beach, and the air drop. 12000 aircraft supported the land invasion force, the plan was to divide the German forces, to ease the landing on the beaches. The paratroops were suppose to be dropped off in a small aria between the city, which was occupied by Germans, and the swamp aria, which was purposely flooded by the Germans, and flank them. The movie did an amazing job in reproducing this event. Due to the bad weather the man got scattered all over the place, people fell into wells, landed in trees, fell through the roofs, and many had drowned in the swamp. The Worldcom Whistleblower Case While, Theranos has appeared recently in the news and is definitely a sign that whistleblowers are needed and companies are still willing t o bend the rules with complete disregard of the consequences, which are much larger than simply fines. The Worldcom whistleblower case is incredibly important because it is often viewed as one case that a whistleblower changed corporate America. The Worldcom case led to legislature changes and the creation of Sarbanes Oxley Act and even the creation of many internal controls within corporate America s organizations. I think the Worldcom whistleblower was not only a positive for that business, which closing of a business can be a positive in the light of poor ethics, but the effects were a positive essentially for corporate America across the board. I am of lighter skin, and I have acknowledged I am more privileged than a woman who is darker than me. As a multi racial woman, I at times have had to make sure I fit in based on who I was surrounded by. I am aware that in ways I do benefit from white privilege, but in a lot of ways I am still put into the subordinate group by the dominate racial groups. I fully became aware of my racial identity as a child, going to a predominately white elementary school. After my encounters with some of the peers and teachers at this school, I became aware that I was different , and for the first time not feeling fully accepted into my peer groups. I am a lighter skinned, multi racial woman, and in many ways, have been treated differently compared to those who have a darker skin tone. Because lighter skin is viewed as more acceptable, I have been treated better by the dominant racial group. The fact that my skin is lighter does put me at the higher end of the dominant spectrum. Once earning his bachelor s degree, Flexner returned to Kentucky to teach Latin and Greek at the high school in Louisville. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing. Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must abide by the Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK relies strictly on legislation and case ... These barriers have been shown over the years to threaten how effective care is for these populations. The healthcare system depends on nurses to facilitate services, care plans and educate patients on various health issues. Many patients who live in these communities have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake assessments, reading their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional resources for this population should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low literacy literature for these patients. Characters such as Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into varied and stimulating characters for Homer s universal audience through the use of various literary techniques. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings of Penelope whilst also performing the task of creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning ring around him for the finish.
