Romania Essay
Today, Romania is one of the fastest growing economy in Europe. It increased at a 5.8 percent rate
at the beginning of the year. Romania is still recovering from the Communist dictator, therefore
they are still one of the poorest nations in Europe. The government has been cutting the money
supply towards highways and other public works, and instead invested that money into wage
raises. These changes in pay and tax cuts has created high economic activity that will leave the
country indebted. The people of Romania are trying to better living conditions in their nation, and
they believe the wages is one of the major ways to do it. One thing this plan lacks is the what the
government is not doing, upgrading and improving the basic structure of... Show more content on

Artist Constantin Brancusi Constantin Brancusi was a French Romanian photographer and
sculptor. The main styles he used in his work were Dada and Cubism. His work was very simple
but were very often said to have hidden truths. Brancusi worked with his materials directly, such
as carving instead of working with plaster or clay models. He considered his work as reality that
showed what things really were through simplicity. Constantin s ideas were very influenced by
myths and folktales that was modern, but also completely timeless at the same time. The materials
that were commonly used included marble, stone, bronze, wood, and metal. Endless Column is
considered his greatest piece of artwork. Constantin Brancusi paved the way for many modern

Ledan Research Paper
Ledan (currently going by the alias of Ledan Leda Hale) is an archangel/human hybrid,
sometimes known as an Archnephilim (a phrase coined by Dean) and a witch, known or at least
believed to be one of the only ones of his kind, maybe even the olnly one. He uses his witchcraft to
perform spells on demand, occasionally for money but usually he ll do it for an nondescript favour
(which you ll be bound to) that can be called in at any time. He was born in 339BC, in early Iron
Age Sweden, and grew up believing, in his early years, he was an average human. However, he is
the son of the archangel Jophiel (who died when he was two) and a powerful witch called ThyrvГЇ;
making him very much not. He believed this because his powers took time to manifest, and even
when they did, in the beginning they were relatively harmless.... Show more content on

causing him to become weak after prologued use of the powers he has through his father s (his

The Modern Mentality Regarding the View of Art
Just a moment ago, as I walked through the shelves of a library and saw the books lined up neatly
in their place, a question arose; what were these books in regard to their place in the world? With
their rows of letters and series of words, what could they represent? How do people see these
bounded pieces of paper? In a very general sense, they represent a type of art. Art , as defined by the
New Oxford American Dictionary, is the expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination . . . producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
The majority of people would accept this as a good idea of what art is; but really, what is art to us?
Is it a good picture? Is it a catchy tune? Or is it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inside their ears attached to these
wires are two tiny speakers blaring noise onto your eardrums. What is the noise being
produced by these headphones ? The modern term for it is music . The word music,
though, comes from the Latin word that means the art of Muse . Muse means to
reflect, to be absorbed in thought. Are we absorbed in thought as we re listening to
our headphones? Of course not. Music has become something that, instead of musing
upon, we have begun to place in the background of our world, in the gray area of our day.
Many of us would claim not to have time to muse upon the music we listen to, and this
is probably true. Because of the way our modern world works, nobody is going to set
aside time to do this. Instead, they prefer to do something else much more stimulating
and rewarding. We forget to stop and look at the world in its beauty and at who we are as
An overstimulation of our brains has numbed us to the subtle,

advancement of modern day society have engulfed our senses in a tide of hyper stimulation. Just

Difference Between America s Best And Worst Claims
America s Best and Worst Claims
Between the years of 1845 and 1848 America was on a mission to expand farther west. This was
mission was not something that was completed over night, but instead too many years to reach
the goal. There were multiple disagreements and even some wars erected from this operation. In
this paper I am going to discuss the how the Oregon Territory was one of the best claims we have
owned and how the California and Texas Territory was one of the worst claims we have owned.
The Oregon territory was originally occupied for many years by the Native Americans. During the
19th century the British and American citizens started moving into the territory and settling on the
land. American citizen predominantly settled in the fertile valleys because most of them were
farmers. As years passed by many people started migrating to the Oregon territory and the territory
started to become crowed. With the territory being crowed this would soon lead to conflict. James
Polk the master mind behind the manifest destiny campaign believed that the American people had
the right to expand to the entire continent North America.
James Polk was able to get a lot of people on his side to the point where rally s would begin. Polk s
original proposal for the border was at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This situation was completely different from obtaining the Oregon territory. Mexico mainly refused
to accept and recognize Texas as independent was the root of the conflict. After being declared as
independent the United States declined to add it to the union. Texas did not agree with the idea
that it would be a slave state and refused to corporate. This was soon brought to an end with the
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that established the Rio Grande as the United States Mexican border.
This agreement also caused Mexico to the sell California and any land above the Rio

Explain why opposition to Russian Governments was so...
Explain why opposition to Russian Governments was so rarely successful in the period 1855
1954? Throughout the period 1855 to 1954, opposition to Russian governments was a common
occurrence due to dissatisfaction of many civilians lives and the lack of development seen
throughout Russia. However, as much as there were some successful movements throughout 1905
such as the Bolsheviks gaining support and eventually gaining power, there were also several
failed attempts due to intense use of violence, terror and censorship by the state. It is arguable that
whether opposition was successful, merely came down to the strength of the opposition group or
the weakness of the government in power. All state leaders across the whole period held... Show

During that time, the populist movement in 1874 76 Going to the people failed as villages as
the peasants saw the middle class as outsiders, showing the vast gulf between the intelligentsia
and the peasants. As a result, Populism became more radical, with the creation of the secret
organisation of Land and Liberty in 1876, using terrorism and organising the assassinations of
leading figures. Lenin in Power 1917 1924 In October 1917, there was enough opposition for
Lenin to take power as leader of the Bolsheviks. The Provisional Government provided him with
no majority support, with the Bolsheviks winning 24% and the SRs gaining 54% of votes. The
Liberal period consisting of keeping workers and peasants happy left them with little power.

Abortion Is Wrong Essay
Is Abortion Wrong?
One of the most cherished beliefs of conservatives is that morals are absolute. If an act such as
abortion is wrong, they believe, it is wrong for all time; there are no exceptions. Usually, this
absolutism arises from the belief that the law of God cannot be broken under any circumstances.
Yet, not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself the scriptures are loaded with
exceptions and qualifications to the law. To those who believe that the only exceptions to the law
should be those that the Judeo Christian God gives us, then there are three places to find those
exceptions: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the writings of Christian leaders in the
2,000 years since. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conservatives may object that the power actually belongs to God, and the church leadership is
simply transmitting the information. But history clearly refutes this idea. African slavery in
America received the full blessing of four centuries of popes. Considering the social and scientific
disasters that the Church hierarchy (of all denominations) have been guilty of promoting, from the
burning of witches to the enslavement of innocents, no thinking person could ever place blind faith
in the fallible leadership of men.
That s just a practical observation; let s turn to a more theoretical treatment of moral absolutism.
The problem with this theory is that not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of
itself. God gave Israel the Ten Commandments forbidding certain acts, but then he also ordered
Israel to carry out those very acts against her enemies. This sort of moral relativism is apparent in
Christian history as well. Slavery and war were not condemned as evil in and of themselves;
Christian scholars and popes wrote entire libraries on what constituted just and unjust slavery and
just and unjust war. They drew all the exceptions permissible under God for these atrocities, which
they viewed as correct in certain circumstances. They also did this with more positive behaviors,
such as the only correct occasions to have sex, which the Church

Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain
Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th
century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain.
Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information
somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize
that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed
computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create
memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of
pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which
are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology
falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information
provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. It is simply engaged in
working out problems. Mind is thus a process and in fact dialectics is the very process that
engages Mind. Self recognition that Hegel had in his mind was looking for what was outside the...

Essay on The Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. Lincoln was born
on February 12, 1809, and died on April 15, 1865. As a young child, Abraham lived in a log cabin
in Illinois. Around the age of twelve he began working, wielding an ax, building fences, and cutting
wood. Later, Abraham Lincolnmarried a woman named Mary Todd; together they had four
children. Lincoln started his presidency on March 18, 1861, but his term was cut short on April

Michelangelo Visual Description
I stood there standing on the fresh, cut wooden boards thinking of what the picture would look
like on the canvas. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off
of the stool, grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick
orange pigment on the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon
creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical
picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head. In my mind, I could see two
philosophers in the center of the paintingin the courtyard of an ancient Greek school with geniuses

The Scriptures Of Hindu Culture And Philosophy
The Bhagavad Gita or simply Gita, conceivably the most recognized of all nonpareil scriptures of
Hindu culture and philosophy, is universally perceived as one of the world s ethical literatures. The
Sanskrit title, Bhagavad Gita, is commonly construed as Song of the Lord. The Gita is incorporated
into the sixth book of the longest Hinduclassic, Mahabharata, although it is known to be a
subsequent accretion to the epic, which stands on its own distinction. The ideology encapsulated in
the Bhagavad Gita, doing action with detachment from the consequences is relevant and vital to
our understanding of way of life even in the contemporary western world. The teachings of the Gita
assist people to manage their states of mental agitation, desires and emotions which will lead them
to take right decisions followed by right actions. This certainly explains its immense recognition
both in the East and the West. Distinguished philosophers, intellectuals, and scientists have
conceded that the Bhagavad Gita presents profound wisdom. Gandhi once proclaimed:
When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope
on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin
to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. Those who meditate on the Gita will derive fresh
joy and new meanings from it every day.
The Gita is an insightful response to an abiding human quandary of discerning right from wrong.

Australia Family Law
Marriage is defined as the legally recognized union of two people, historically and in some
jurisdictions its specifically a union between a man and a woman but more recently gay marriage

the law, defined in Section 4AA of the FamilyLaw Act 1975. When marriages breakdown, Australia

Both parties are free to own property separately after the marriage has ended they also have the
option to hold it together either as joint tenants or tenants in common, this is known as The
Separation Clause or Separation Under One Roof Clause. It exists to allow partners the
opportunity to save money to buy or rent a house separate, rather than being required to move out
instantly (Government of NSW, 2018). These clauses are effective in decreasing the conflict within
families as it removes the stress and financial worry on finding new residency straight away. The
family court may make orders as it considers just and equitable (s 79) if issues arise in the process
of property settlement or if both parties request help. If property settlement does go to court, things
such as; financial contribution made towards the improvement of the property and the contribution
(other than financial) made to the acquisition, conservation or improvement of the property will be
taken into consideration. Alternatively the parties can reach their own agreement about property,
with advised legal aid this is known as a consent order, all options found within the family court of
Australia. Property settlements with children become more complex as factors of custody and
visitation come into the equation. As outlined in Article 3 of the UNCROC; The best interests of

Haruhi is a very likable character; she doesn t care about saving face, very honest, kind, and
compassionate to others. She doesn t let the hard times pull her down or stop her from living her
life to the fullest. Her mom passed away when she was young; she only has her dad. Haruhi does
think about her mom, and the fact that her mother chat be there physically, bothers her (as it would

Baby, It s Not Just Cold Outside. A hot breeze dances through the fields, and the sun shines down

days of rain. The sun is being held captive behind grey and black storm clouds, and the wind is

When being medically treated there are multiple factors that go into finding the correct
treatment. The first, most common type of treatment, is light therapy. This consists of sitting a
few feet away from a light box that mimics natural sunlight (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder
(SAD)ВЁ). Light therapy is usually the first line of treatment for all cases of SAD. People using
this treatment can feel better in a matter of days, but are still encouraged to continue use until
spring time when natural light is more available (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
TopicВЁ). A second common treatment is medication. A doctor can prescribe a long lasting anti
depressant before one s symptoms begin to take root (ВЁSeasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)ВЁ).
By treating before the effects set in this is also a way of prevention. The third and final type of
treatment is talk therapy, or psychotherapy. By going to therapy sessions like this one will learn
how to cope with SAD. It is important to identify negative thoughts that might make a person feel
worse and helping them change their thought process to make them better (ВЁSeasonal Affective

Cults are defined as unorthodoxed mainstream religious practices. The cult stereotype, characterizes

a deadly poison. Nine hundred nine people were killed in all, including over two hundred children
and babies. If anyone did not take the poison, they were shot. Four people from the whole cult

There have been many cult attacks that target the general population of countries, states, or cities.
The Japanese cult, Aum Shinrikyo, poisoned the Tokyo subway system with a deadly nerve gas,

Essay On Dunkirk
When I found out that the latest project from director/writer Christopher Nolan titled Dunkirk was
only 107 minutes, I was stunned. Usually, his films are about 30 minutes short of hostage
situations. It s a bit odd how he chose his first two hour film in 15 years to be about the Dunkirk
evacuation. For you history buffs out there, Battle of Dunkirk took place in WWII in 1940, the
Allied forces of Europe fighting Nazi Germanyfinds themselves overrun in France and

You don t know where the next shot is coming from and you can never relax because the pacing
of the movie comes like a tidal wave of dread. An interesting creative decision here is that even
though this is clearly WWII and we know who the enemy is, you never see a single German
soldier, not even a Nazi Germany flag is present. The closest you get to an enemy is the aerial
assault from many jets fighter. The absence of a physical enemy, it doesn t affect this survival film
one bit, if anything it strikes up more paranoia keeping the audience uneasy the way through.
If there is one downside Dunkirk it s that the constant sight of soldiers being attacked can be
repetitive and emotionally be draining for the viewer but simply put this is a story about unsung
heroes of WWII both with and without a gun. If the evacuation from Dunkirk had failed, history
would have a much scarier outlook than today. Christopher Nolan makes up for a bloated

Direct Model of selling computers which eliminated all traditional channels like distributors,

eventually led the company to achieve its core strategy of direct distribution and selling and hence
maintain a relatively high growth rate. I would also like to mention that to improve its systems and

The Importance Of Student Privacy
Safety and privacy both are important factors on a College campus. In 2007, Seung Hui Cho, an
angry and disturbed student, shot to death 32 students and faculty of Virginia Tech, wounded 17
more, and then killed himself. Cho was a mentally disturbed student who had suicidal and homicidal
tendencies. Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting happened, there has been debate whether safety is
more important than student privacyor not. Many people claim that privacy protection laws are the
reasons that campuses aren t safe anymore, where others believe that everyone needs personal space
and a right to have privacy. There are people who claim that student privacy should be ignored to
maintain campus safety, where others believe that every student should have the right of privacy;
however, student privacy should be protected, while alternative methods for campus safety should
be taken. Many people believe that campus safety is more important than student privacy, hence it
should be ignored. There have been incidents where disturbed students sometimes hurt themselves
and sometimes hurt others, like the Virginia Tech incident. After the incident, many people came
forward claiming that they knew that the student was disturbed, and need assistance, but due to
student privacy laws, they didn t do anything. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) is being blamed here because according to FERPA schools can t release student s health
and academic records without

Stereotypes In The Cosby Show
When television shows were first aired, the majority of the main characters were white, if you

Nakagawa says people who speak about race the most are those who don t have authority or
accurate knowledge. When we talk about different races we usually talk about what we have

Communication: Globalization and Social Justice said, Often the assumptions, stereotypes, and

Gerontological Nursing Essay
Aging is a normal part of life. In 2015, the elderly population has increased to 47.8 million and is
expected to be 98 million in the year of 2060 (Administration on Aging (AoA), Administration for
Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2016). This will lead to a
greater demand of gerontological nurses. Gerontological nursing is important to meet the health
needs of the elderly. The purpose of this post is to discuss the reasons why gerontological nursing
is an under served area of practice and why we need more gerontological nurses.
The term gerontological nurse means that a registered nurse is specialized in taking care of the
elderly to promote healthy aging and a better quality of life. I think so few students ... Show more

In conclusion, we need more gerontological nurses to take care of the increasing elderly

Personal Growth Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Personal Growth in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath uses this quote in The Bell Jar to
show the main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is
something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other,
especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an
express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller,
only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away
from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this
quote to encapsulate the true feelings of the main character and her struggles with social
conformity. It is obvious that Esther Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many
similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level
of intelligence. The only major difference is Esther s suicideattempt was fortunately unsuccessful
while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due
to her major struggles of conforming to society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia

Essay On Happiness And Happiness
Is it fear to say that money makes the world go around? Deceased rapper, Biggie Smalls said it
best, The more money you make the more problems you get . With all the chaos and corruption
that we hear about or some even must experience, all most individuals really want is a normal but
happy and fulfilling life; one filled with love, contentment, satisfaction and peace. According to
Wikipedia, happinessis defined as a mental or emotional state of well being which can defined by,
among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy . Now don t
get me wrong, everyone s definition of happiness may be different but most are on or in the chase
for happiness. For example, there have been many articles stating that money may be linked to a
person s happiness which has heightened one s wellbeing.
Can money buy happiness though? I don t believe there is a no or yes answer to this question.
But it also all depends on the person s personality and their view on what makes them happy.
Most people lust for companionship, love and just belonging, money on the other hand is very
important as well and if one has access to it than it can reduce some stress which can in fact lead
to having an increase of happiness. In the Pursuit of Happiness, Kesebir and Diener mentioned,
Happiness leads to better health, better work performance, better social relationships, and more
ethical behavior (Kesebir Diener, 6). A person who is happy, does show that in their
performance whether it s at work, home or school. Their attitude is positive, along with their
physical wellbeing, and the relationships that have with others. But on the flip side of all this
happiness, we all go through downfalls and suffer from experiences that don t bring on happy
feelings. The loss of a job, the death of a loved one, a failed relationship are circumstances that
we all must endure and circumstances we find ourselves in at. But how long do we suffer? How
long do these feelings exists? Even positive experience we go through the same occurrence, that

Self driving vehicles present multiple hazards, in many different areas, these risks will have to be
mitigated for the self driving industry to survive. Personal safety is going to be one of the major
concerns when it comes time for the implementation of self driving vehicles on our roadways.
There are many different personal injuries that could occur in a self drivingvehicle, to include
whiplash, concussions, and other injuries from car wrecks. In the article Safety and Self Driving

The first major cause of self driving vehicles will be when industrial fleets start switching over to
autonomous vehicles. The effect of this will be the loss of jobs throughout the truck driving
industry. In the article Automation Replacing Human Workers the author states A recent report
by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows there are approximately 1.6 million American truck
drivers in 2014. Earning a mean income of about $42,000. In total, commercial truckers
represent more than half a percent of the country, and $67 billion dollars in revenue or about .3%
of the US GDP. (Giarratana, C. 2016). This will have a major impact on our economy; we will
have to find jobs for these truck drivers when the autonomous vehicles do start taking over the
trucking industry. Insurance companies will also be forced to take a different look at how they
approach customers for insurance coverage after the autonomous vehicles take the streets. They
will have to look into switching from covering individuals to covering the businesses who create
the vehicles. Another cause of the autonomous vehicle will be how these vehicles will cause a
lower accident rate compared to what we have now. The effect of this action will be fewer

Prohibition Of The Fourteenth Amendment Essay
Introduction: 21st Amendment Following the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919, which
outlawed the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of alcohol, the United States entered a period of
time now known as Prohibition (U.S. Const. amend. XVIII). Immediately following the passage of
the 18th Amendment, consumption of alcohol, alcohol related injuries, and crime decreased
(Schaeffer, 2011, p. 402). However, it did not take long for the governmentto realize that Prohibition
came with many unintended consequences. According to Schaeffer (2011), state and local
governments were ill prepared to handle the vast responsibilities of enforcing the law, which led to
increased organized crime, corruption, and the failure of the law as a whole. 73% of Americans
favored the repeal of the 18th Amendment in its entirety by the time the 21st Amendment was
passed (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 408). The 21st Amendment was finally ratified in 1933 effectively
ending prohibition. Aside from repealing the 18th Amendment, it also granted the states the right to
regulate alcohol within their own borders and set a time limit for ratification of the law (U.S.
Const. amend. XXI). Overall, this amendment decreased the powers of the federal government by
delegating the authority over alcohol to the states. In relation to the 21st Amendment, it shows
several important aspects of public administration. First, it highlights some of the public values that
are integral to being an American citizen. According

The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light
Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values
in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a
beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is
recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a
brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT
wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen
to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the
audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be
involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of
understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our
motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only
enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something
new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a
community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT.
By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people
will have a better understanding of KULT and its

Celts Vs Paganism
The Middle Ages is characterized by linguistic, literary, and cultural contributions from different
groups of people. Among these groups were the Celts, the Romans, and Germanic tribes
including the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. Medieval Britain served as the meeting place for these
major groups, making it very rich in culture. The recorded history of Britain began with the Celts
in 400 BCE. There were two types of Celts in medieval Britain: the Brittonic Celts and the
Goidelic Celts, who achieved linguistic and social dominance (David Damrosch and Kevin J. H.

William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
EZ Julius Caesar was a crucial political figure that saw the fall of the Roman Republic and the
rise of the Roman empire. Through political strategy and military feats, Caesar seized significant
power and influence over Roman politics and eventually declared himself a dictator in
perpetuity . He centralized the government, passed social and bureaucratic reform, and even
created the Julian calendar. However, he was soon assassinated by senators led by Marcus
Brutus who stabbed him to death, after which the empire underwent several civil wars. His
death is considered by historians as a watershed in Roman history, and one of the most
influential assassinations in history. In Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar, Caesar s death was
preceded by numerous omens: a severe thunderstorm, a bird of night screaming in a
marketplace, and even a lion walking through the streets. EZ Shakespeare alludes to Julius
Caesar, in order to highlight the importance of King Hamlet s death and also foreshadow the
discovery of betrayal. One of the reasons that Caesar was alluded to was to capture one of the
themes of Hamlet: that everyone dies eventually. Like how King Hamlet was going to die
eventually, Julius Caesar dies too. It is this realization that is a major part in Hamlet s grief driven
quest for self knowledge. Another reason that Caesar was alluded to is to capture a similarity
between Caesar s son and Hamlet. Both of their fathers were important leaders that were murdered

To what extent does the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH)...
Introduction
It was previously assumed that economic investors and regulators (agents) utilised all available
information and thus market prices were a reflection of this information with assets representing
their fundamental value, encouraging the position that agents actions were rational. The 2007 2008
Global Financial Crisis (GFC) is posited to have originated from the notion that all available
information was utilised, causing agents to fail to thoroughly investigate and confirm the true
values of publicly traded securities, leading to a failure to register the presence of an asset price
bubble preceding the GFC (Ball 2009).
This essay will use the notions of EMH to determine the extent to which they can explain the Global

This argument becomes redundant when we consider that investors did know that asset prices
were wrong because the favoured strategies of trading desks and proprietary portfolios were
primarily founded on market mispricing, hence this can be seen as the cause of huge losses in
2007 2008. In this financial crisis, it was the knowledge and recognition of mispricing that were
a probable cause of the GFC as agents were prepared to bid up the price of assets and allow
subprime mortgages to continue to be traded even although common sense would suggest that
100% finance to subprime candidates was destined for failure and would burst the asset bubble as
US mortgage defaults increased alongside foreclosures.
Further to the argument that agents were ignorant of and failed to engage with new information,
the formation of asset price bubbles has been offered as a cause for the GFC. Ball argues that it is
inherently difficult to recognise the presence of an asset price bubble until after the event has
affected the market and even by recognising that prices did not accurately reflect true value, this
could never have indicated a nearing price bubble burst to investors because EMH suggested that
all then available information was

Voltaire s Use Of Satire In Candide

philosophy. Using misfortune as well as comic relief, Candide, holds the interest of its readers

Voltaire satirizes numerous social norms of his time using recurring themes throughout the novel.
With his every present sardonic writing, Voltaire addresses issues regarding religion, social
structure, women s rights, and unrelenting optimism. He ridicules religion for its corruption and
intolerance. No religion went unscathed as Voltaire took shots at many of the main sects of religion
including Protestantism, Catholicism, and Anabaptism. He also took shots at elitist nobility and the
unfair women s rights of the time, using irony to show the uselessness of the unjust systems and
privileges (or lack thereof). In addition, Voltaire made light work of philosophical optimism, an
idea highly popularized by German theorist Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibnitz. It was thought that
God created a perfect world and therefore, God would not cause anything to happen if not for a
greater outcome. Voltaire, an atheist in his own right, thought this absurd and wished to educate his

The Importance Of Religion And Politics In Bangladesh
Religion and politics are interdependent from the beginning. Political and religious power are
interconnected. In 1905, the separation between state and religious institutions occurred. But, that
doesn t mean that religion has lost its important in terms of politics. Still, religion plays and
important part in the political system. Religioninfluence the politicsfrom the core. Religion is a
mandatory part of politics which cannot be replaced (Fox, 2013).
Religion has not only influence over our political aspects but also in our social aspects too. More
accurately, religion has more influence over our social life than political. Religion is an element of
social control. As Karl Marx has said, religion is the opium of mass people (Eggers, 2015).
Through socialization process a human being entangled in the chain of Social control. It is a
process which enlighten a person about the rules, regulations and procedures of the society. It tells
an individual his or, her place and marks their limitations. Religion just make those implementations
more strong so that no one can break the traditional norms and values of the society. Thus religion
preserve the traditions as they were and control the society (Liska, 1992).

According to Pamela Meyer (01:46), Not all lies are harmful when we feel that the truth may hurt.
The primary forms of lying are lying by commission, when you intentionally tell an untruth to

concept of pain. While enlightening, words alone cannot sufficiently communicate the

Meanwhile, according to Mayo Clinic, cancer includes diseases characterized by the development
of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably (Mayo Clinic Staff). Under these two definitions,
cancer should be considered a disability. It is worth noting that previous to the ADAAA, cancer
was not always considered a disability (Befort 1020). In fact, some Supreme Court rulings
narrowed the definition of disability to exclude cancer since it is not always a lasting disability (
Befort 1020 1021). According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the
purpose of the ADAAA was to undo the Supreme Court s decisions by extending coverage to
afflictions that may be episodic like cancer ( Fact Sheet ). Thus, Wit may not have been treated as

In relation to Wit, Bearing is disabled through both her stage IV ovarian cancer and pain. As

money doesn t always equal happiness. While the financial value of what s produced may rank
relatively high, if the money is concentrated in the hands of a relatively small amount of people, the
nation s overall happinessisn t that high. Additionally, other measures of population happiness are
often overlooked in gross national product metrics. A city may be bursting at the seams with money,

Promoting community contribution as a way to make clients happier is nothing new; law firms,
construction contractors, and cafes across the globe contribute to local causes. Sometimes it takes
the form of Adopt a Highway participation, or the sponsorship of a local free clinic s fundraising

encourage potential customers to do business with the company, while actively helping the wider

Conversely, bad customer service experiences not only decrease community happiness, but they
also decrease a company s bottom line. People listen to stories of bad service, thirsting for juicy
details, and so not only will an upset customer consider leaving your company, but potential
customers may never do business with you. Outside of a potential short term financial benefit from
denying your customers request, the impact of having customers angry about their experience with

My Musical Identity Essay
Writing Assignment 1: My Musical Identity Music, in all its complexity can be seen as a living,
breathing mechanism that has the ability to sink deep down into one s soul and create feelings of
awe, excitement and wonder. Music speaks to and connects people of all cultures, backgrounds and
ideologies, creating a common bond between various members of the human species. When
listening to a beautifully composed piece of music, I myself cannot help but feel connected to the
instruments, the artists and the composer. It has been my experience that music not only helps me
learn, but also helps me grow. From an early age I grew up listening to the sounds of Motown with
my dad. He would sing songs to me like Ain t No Mountain High Enough ... Show more content on

I was 16 years old when I auditioned to become a part of the show.
The auditions for that season of American Idol took place in East Rutherford, New Jersey at the
Meadowlands Sports Complex on a beautiful day in August of 2006. Thousands of people came
in an attempt to become a star before the eyes of the American public. Everywhere I turned
people were singing and practicing for their chance with the judges. For the majority of the day I
stayed with my mom, who along with a companion of hers drove me to the auditions. The only
time I went out on my own was to quickly explore some areas of the stadium and to practice for a
moment.
After waiting for over 5 hours, I finally had my chance to audition for the producers.
Unfortunately, I didn t earn a coveted spot on the show. When the producers didn t call my
number, I was devastated. I cried and asked to be taken home immediately. After that day my love
for singing diminished greatly, and although my recovery of the rejection was rather swift, I never
quite regained the desire to be a musical superstar.
That incident, however painful it was, did not end my love for music. After high school, as I
began to inwardly change, so did my musical preferences. I began to listen mainly to Christian
worship music, and upon doing so I realized I had a love for the art of dance. I find dancing to be

The Writer s Diet Analysis
The Writer s Diet
Helen Sword, in her book, dispenses with vivid and elaborate explanations accompanied with
succinct analysis. The author provides the reader with an easy to follow set of writing principles.
What is perceive to be the most significant take away ideas are the use active verbs at the
appropriate time, the application of concrete language instead of vague abstractions, and avoiding
long strings of prepositional phrases. Additionally, I value the concepts of employing adjectives
and adverbs only when they are applicable in contributing something new to the meaning of a
sentence. Another important idea presented by Sword is that of reducing one s dependence on
what she refers to as waste words : it, this, that, and there (Sword, ... Show more content on

Too many books on writing well are far too long and far too detailed. However, this is not with
the case of Sword since she makes the point that writing can be fat only when the writer employs
certain often unnecessary words that she refers to as waste words . According to her, writing can
also be fat when the writer uses overabundance of prepositions, unnecessary adjectives, and poor
choice of adverbs. I also like the manner in which Swords points out that some writers ignore all
these rules at times and write masterpieces. Sword moves on to present Shakespeare and Jane
Austin, just to name two, as perfect examples of such

Virginia Tech has been the home for both my brothers through their mechanical engineer degree
and their transformation into responsible and hardworking young adults. I am the third of my

location is quite calming and therapeutic when overwhelmed with stress. The distance from my

another short term goal, which is to understand more about large or livestock animals. The only
exposures I have been able to experience to animals are small animals at the local vet. I have
worked with large animals sparsely and have not had the best experience. As of now I plan to

Analysis Of The Accidental Billionaires By Aaron...
The Social Network reveals an ironic story of a computer genius who creates a global social
networking website that now benefits over 5 million users, while he is alone in the end because of
his cynical, unsympathetic and egocentric personality and behavior. The Social Network is a
compelling movie and the movie makers had done a magnificent job using sophisticated
cinematography, editing, sound and lighting techniques to attract their audience s attention and
affection throughout the whole movie. In addition, they clearly appealed to pathos, ethos and logos
to persuade their audience to perceive Mark Zuckerbergs negative personality traits. The film is
directed by David Fincher, and the screenplay is written by Aaron Sorkin and adapted from The
Accidental Billionaires written by Ben Mezrich. The story portrays the creation of Facebook by the
founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in his early twenties, and begins when he was the sophomore at Harvard
University.
In October 2003, after Zuckerberg broke up with his girlfriend, Erica Albright, he was so angry
and created a website known as Facemash to allow male viewers to rate female students based on
their attractiveness. The university s network was crashed due to an enormous amount of traffic to
the site, and Zuckerberg was penalized because of his willful misconduct. The popularity of his
Facemash appealed to his schoolmates, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra to
engage him for programing their ideas of Harvard

Changing Motor Blocks
A lot of people find it hard to work on cars and repair them. When it comes down to it, you may
realize that the steps are much easier than you would have thought. The process to changing a
motor is mainly just remembering how you took everything apart and reverse engineering. This
guide will give you the steps needed to replace a motor a motor for yourself. You will needa well
rounded tool set containing most common wrenchand socket sizes. To start the process, you wanna
start removing most of the items on motor block that can easily be removed.
The first and a very important step is the remove the battery cables so that you don t shock yourself
or damage the electronic parts on the motor.
Take the alternator off using a 9/16 and 1/2 wrench or you can use a socket your choice. Losen the

There are 2 on each side of the lower transmission, and 1 on each side of the upper transmission.
To remove these you will need a 9/16 socket with about at least a 2 foot extension to reach the
upper bolts. You will wantto place a floor jack under the transmission with a block of wood or
something to protect the bottom of the transmission pan.
The last steps to get the motor out of the car are draining the antifreeze out of the motor and
taking out the motor mount bolts. You will need a flat screwdriver to remove the clamps on the
radiator hoses and have a pan under the car to catch the antifreeze that comes out you will
remove the lower hose first controlling the flow to the pan once it comes to a drizzle place it so
its not leaking and remove the upper radiator hose. Now remove the 2 11/16 motor mount bolts

An Experiment on the Synthesis and Characterization of...
Introduction In this experiment, the focus will be the synthesis and characterization of biodiesel
fuel. Biodiesel seems to have become the substitute for fossil fuel. It can also be an alternative for
the petroleum based biodiesel. By having renewable resources such as corn, soybeans, peanuts and
other makes biodiesela viable option. Using these resources wouldn t help alleviate the problems
with fossil fuel in the US. Biodiesel is produced from the transesterification reaction of vegetable
oil. Transesterification is the reversible reaction where one ester is converted into another by
exchanging an ester group with an alcohol in the presence of a base.
Experimental
According to the Laboratory Manual, there are multiple steps. We will need 50mL vegetable oil,
10mL methanol, 0.5mL 9M NaOH, diesel fuel, salt and ice. For preparation of Biodiesel, various
types of oil were available for synthesizing biodiesel. Measure 50mL of biodiesel into a 250mL
beaker. Second, add a clean magnetic stir bar to the oil and the place the beaker on a stirring
hotplate. Adjust the stirring rate so that the solution is being well mixed without splashing and turn
heat on low. Third, while the mixture is heating prepare a solution of methanol and sodium
hydroxide. Measure 10mL of methanol into a small beaker. Add 0.5mL of 9M NaOH to the
methanol. Fourth, heat the mixture to 50C. As soon as the oil reaches 50C, turn off heat, but
continue stirring. Fifth, slowly pour the methanol/NaOH mixture

A Very Brief Look at Russian History
The country of Russia has a rich history which, unfortunately, cannot be discussed in its entirety
within the context of this briefing book. It should be noted that early modern Russia is often
characterized by the strong rulers that presided at the time, and the legacies they left that have
helped shape Russia.
The beginning of modern Russia begins with Peter the Great, who began a period of reforms and
westernization under his reign. He brought many European customs to the elites, attempting to
eradicate some archaic practices, as well as introducing technology that Russia sorely lacked. He
modernized the military, attempting to thrust Russia onto the international stage and make the
country a contender in world politics. He also consolidated the country under his rule, even going
so far as to move the capital to St. Petersburg. Often these reforms were financed and instituted
with the labor of peasants, so his legacy remains controversial. Peter s reforms were furthered by
Catherine the Great, a liberal reformer at the onset of her reign. Due to her, Russia s influence
expanded within Europe and Asia. However, she reversed many reforms later on, contributing to
the strife felt by the peasantry. Another phase in Russia s history that is notable is that of Napoleon
s ill conceived incursion into the country in 1812. Instead of fighting conventionally, Russia s
military generals prudently decided to try a defensive approach, whereby they retreated and left a

  • 4. The Modern Mentality Regarding the View of Art Just a moment ago, as I walked through the shelves of a library and saw the books lined up neatly in their place, a question arose; what were these books in regard to their place in the world? With their rows of letters and series of words, what could they represent? How do people see these bounded pieces of paper? In a very general sense, they represent a type of art. Art , as defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary, is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination . . . producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Of course not. Music has become something that, instead of musing upon, we have begun to place in the background of our world, in the gray area of our day. Many of us would claim not to have time to muse upon the music we listen to, and this is probably true. Because of the way our modern world works, nobody is going to set aside time to do this. Instead, they prefer to do something else much more stimulating and rewarding. We forget to stop and look at the world in its beauty and at who we are as An overstimulation of our brains has numbed us to the subtle, sophisticated beauty of true art. This was mission was not something that was completed over night, but instead too many years to reach the goal. There were multiple disagreements and even some wars erected from this operation. In this paper I am going to discuss the how the Oregon Territory was one of the best claims we have owned and how the California and Texas Territory was one of the worst claims we have owned. The Oregon territory was originally occupied for many years by the Native Americans. During the 19th century the British and American citizens started moving into the territory and settling on the land. American citizen predominantly settled in the fertile valleys because most of them were farmers. As years passed by many people started migrating to the Oregon territory and the territory started to become crowed. With the territory being crowed this would soon lead to conflict. • 8. Abortion Is Wrong Essay Is Abortion Wrong? One of the most cherished beliefs of conservatives is that morals are absolute. If an act such as abortion is wrong, they believe, it is wrong for all time; there are no exceptions. Usually, this absolutism arises from the belief that the law of God cannot be broken under any circumstances. Yet, not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself the scriptures are loaded with exceptions and qualifications to the law. To those who believe that the only exceptions to the law should be those that the Judeo Christian God gives us, then there are three places to find those exceptions: the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the writings of Christian leaders in the 2,000 years since. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conservatives may object that the power actually belongs to God, and the church leadership is simply transmitting the information. But history clearly refutes this idea. African slavery in America received the full blessing of four centuries of popes. Considering the social and scientific disasters that the Church hierarchy (of all denominations) have been guilty of promoting, from the burning of witches to the enslavement of innocents, no thinking person could ever place blind faith in the fallible leadership of men. That s just a practical observation; let s turn to a more theoretical treatment of moral absolutism. The problem with this theory is that not even the Bible considers an act to be wrong in and of itself. God gave Israel the Ten Commandments forbidding certain acts, but then he also ordered Israel to carry out those very acts against her enemies. This sort of moral relativism is apparent in Christian history as well. Slavery and war were not condemned as evil in and of themselves; Christian scholars and popes wrote entire libraries on what constituted just and unjust slavery and just and unjust war. They drew all the exceptions permissible under God for these atrocities, which they viewed as correct in certain circumstances. Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain. Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. The Gita is incorporated into the sixth book of the longest Hinduclassic, Mahabharata, although it is known to be a subsequent accretion to the epic, which stands on its own distinction. The ideology encapsulated in the Bhagavad Gita, doing action with detachment from the consequences is relevant and vital to our understanding of way of life even in the contemporary western world. The teachings of the Gita assist people to manage their states of mental agitation, desires and emotions which will lead them to take right decisions followed by right actions. The quote states as followed, There is something demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it s really you getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). The many similarities include their pseudonyms, the absence of a father, their young age, and their high level of intelligence. • 25. Essay On Happiness And Happiness Is it fear to say that money makes the world go around? Deceased rapper, Biggie Smalls said it best, The more money you make the more problems you get . With all the chaos and corruption that we hear about or some even must experience, all most individuals really want is a normal but happy and fulfilling life; one filled with love, contentment, satisfaction and peace. According to Wikipedia, happinessis defined as a mental or emotional state of well being which can defined by, among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy . Now don t get me wrong, everyone s definition of happiness may be different but most are on or in the chase for happiness. For example, there have been many articles stating that money may be linked to a person s happiness which has heightened one s wellbeing. Can money buy happiness though? I don t believe there is a no or yes answer to this question. But it also all depends on the person s personality and their view on what makes them happy. Most people lust for companionship, love and just belonging, money on the other hand is very important as well and if one has access to it than it can reduce some stress which can in fact lead to having an increase of happiness. In the Pursuit of Happiness, Kesebir and Diener mentioned, Happiness leads to better health, better work performance, better social relationships, and more ethical behavior (Kesebir Diener, 6). A person who is happy, does show that in their performance whether it s at work, home or school. Their attitude is positive, along with their physical wellbeing, and the relationships that have with others. But on the flip side of all this happiness, we all go through downfalls and suffer from experiences that don t bring on happy feelings. The loss of a job, the death of a loved one, a failed relationship are circumstances that we all must endure and circumstances we find ourselves in at. But how long do we suffer? How long do these feelings exists? • 28. Prohibition Of The Fourteenth Amendment Essay Introduction: 21st Amendment Following the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919, which outlawed the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of alcohol, the United States entered a period of time now known as Prohibition (U.S. Const. amend. XVIII). Immediately following the passage of the 18th Amendment, consumption of alcohol, alcohol related injuries, and crime decreased (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 402). However, it did not take long for the governmentto realize that Prohibition came with many unintended consequences. According to Schaeffer (2011), state and local governments were ill prepared to handle the vast responsibilities of enforcing the law, which led to increased organized crime, corruption, and the failure of the law as a whole. 73% of Americans favored the repeal of the 18th Amendment in its entirety by the time the 21st Amendment was passed (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 408). The 21st Amendment was finally ratified in 1933 effectively ending prohibition. Aside from repealing the 18th Amendment, it also granted the states the right to regulate alcohol within their own borders and set a time limit for ratification of the law (U.S. Const. amend. XXI). Overall, this amendment decreased the powers of the federal government by delegating the authority over alcohol to the states. • 29. The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT. By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people will have a better understanding of KULT and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar EZ Julius Caesar was a crucial political figure that saw the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman empire. Through political strategy and military feats, Caesar seized significant power and influence over Roman politics and eventually declared himself a dictator in perpetuity . He centralized the government, passed social and bureaucratic reform, and even created the Julian calendar. However, he was soon assassinated by senators led by Marcus Brutus who stabbed him to death, after which the empire underwent several civil wars. His death is considered by historians as a watershed in Roman history, and one of the most influential assassinations in history. In Shakespeare s play Julius Caesar, Caesar s death was preceded by numerous omens: a severe thunderstorm, a bird of night screaming in a marketplace, and even a lion walking through the streets. EZ Shakespeare alludes to Julius Caesar, in order to highlight the importance of King Hamlet s death and also foreshadow the discovery of betrayal. One of the reasons that Caesar was alluded to was to capture one of the themes of Hamlet: that everyone dies eventually. Like how King Hamlet was going to die eventually, Julius Caesar dies too. It is this realization that is a major part in Hamlet s grief driven quest for self knowledge. Another reason that Caesar was alluded to is to capture a similarity between Caesar s son and Hamlet. Introduction It was previously assumed that economic investors and regulators (agents) utilised all available information and thus market prices were a reflection of this information with assets representing their fundamental value, encouraging the position that agents actions were rational. The 2007 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC) is posited to have originated from the notion that all available information was utilised, causing agents to fail to thoroughly investigate and confirm the true values of publicly traded securities, leading to a failure to register the presence of an asset price bubble preceding the GFC (Ball 2009). This argument becomes redundant when we consider that investors did know that asset prices were wrong because the favoured strategies of trading desks and proprietary portfolios were primarily founded on market mispricing, hence this can be seen as the cause of huge losses in 2007 2008. In this financial crisis, it was the knowledge and recognition of mispricing that were a probable cause of the GFC as agents were prepared to bid up the price of assets and allow subprime mortgages to continue to be traded even although common sense would suggest that 100% finance to subprime candidates was destined for failure and would burst the asset bubble as US mortgage defaults increased alongside foreclosures. Further to the argument that agents were ignorant of and failed to engage with new information, the formation of asset price bubbles has been offered as a cause for the GFC. Ball argues that it is inherently difficult to recognise the presence of an asset price bubble until after the event has affected the market and even by recognising that prices did not accurately reflect true value, this could never have indicated a nearing price bubble burst to investors because EMH suggested that all then available information was ... • 49. A Very Brief Look at Russian History The country of Russia has a rich history which, unfortunately, cannot be discussed in its entirety within the context of this briefing book. It should be noted that early modern Russia is often characterized by the strong rulers that presided at the time, and the legacies they left that have helped shape Russia. The beginning of modern Russia begins with Peter the Great, who began a period of reforms and westernization under his reign. He brought many European customs to the elites, attempting to eradicate some archaic practices, as well as introducing technology that Russia sorely lacked. He modernized the military, attempting to thrust Russia onto the international stage and make the country a contender in world politics. He also consolidated the country under his rule, even going so far as to move the capital to St. Petersburg. Often these reforms were financed and instituted with the labor of peasants, so his legacy remains controversial. Peter s reforms were furthered by Catherine the Great, a liberal reformer at the onset of her reign. Due to her, Russia s influence expanded within Europe and Asia. However, she reversed many reforms later on, contributing to the strife felt by the peasantry. Another phase in Russia s history that is notable is that of Napoleon s ill conceived incursion into the country in 1812. Instead of fighting conventionally, Russia s military generals prudently decided to try a defensive approach, whereby they retreated and left a barren ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
