Mapp V. Ohio Court Case
Mapp V Ohio Court Case
Summary
The event took place in Cleveland, Ohio, when Dollree Mapp s house was entered by police officers,
who weren t carrying any official search warrants. The police believed she was sheltering a suspected
bomber; no evidence or bodies were found, but police discovered a chest containing explicit pictures
stored within her basement these pictures violated state law. With this discovery, the police arrested
Mapp due to the vulgar images they obtained. Once arrested, Dollree claimed that her fourth
amendment of rights had been violated by the police, and ultimately brought her case to the supreme
court. The supreme court came to the decision that illegally seized evidence shall not be authorized for
use in criminal prosecutions in federal courts and later broadened this ruling to state courts.
Decision
The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects citizens against unlawful searches and
seizures a warrant with reasonable justification to lead a search is required, in this case protecting
Mapp from further conviction (since the police entered without any search warrant). Her case, which
was brought to the US supreme court, ended 5/3 in her favour. The Court proclaimed that all evidence
obtained by searches and seizures in violation of the Constitution is, by [the Fourth ... Show more

Ohio court case impacted the American population because it enforced the rule that police officers are
not authorized to use illegally obtained evidence (breaking the fourth amendment) in court, by
applying the exclusionary rule. The fourth Amendment says that government authorities can t conduct
direct searches or seizures without warrants to support their search. Be that as it may, the amendment
does not explain what happens in the event that they may conduct an unlawful search. Mapps case
caused the exclusionary rule to come about, which says that the proof found in such searches cannot
be used in evidence against a defendant in

The Concept Of Transference Within Psychodynamic...
n this essay, I will provide a critical analysis of the concept of transference within psychodynamic
psychotherapy. I will begin with a discussion into the development of the psychodynamic paradigm
and psychoanalysis and how it has developed from its original founder Sigmund Freud to the
influence it has in therapy within the modern present day. The essay will go on to explore the
techniques used specifically within psychodynamic psychotherapy. I. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy
Psychoanalysis was first given its name in the 1980 s by Sigmund Freud. The theory was both
founded and developed by Freud and plays a significant role in our understanding of Psychology and
the human mind in this present modern day. Freud held a strong interest within the unconscious mind
and believed unconscious thoughts and feelings to be at the root of psychological distress (Cabaniss,
2011). The aim of psychodynamic therapy is to bring forward the thoughts that hide deep within the
unconscious, into the conscious mind to allow for psychological and self awareness to develop within
the client. The Psychodynamic paradigm is seen to hold a rather deterministic view towards humanity.
According to the theory, humans are made up of inner instinctive drives (Rizq, 2010) and forces of
which our thoughts, emotions, and thus our behaviour is motivated and driven by. Freud theorised that
humans repressed certain emotions, desires and thoughts in infanthood (not childhood??). It therefore
became an aim of

The Case Ban On Tobacco Ads And Talks About The Conflict...
This essay is a case study analysis that uses the case Ban on Tobacco Ads and talks about the conflict
of interests between tobacco producers and the Government of India. In Feb 2001 the Government of
India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and
sponsoring the sports and other cultural events.
(1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision:
1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990
occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million.
2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from
R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing
was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking.
3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for
0.21%.
4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be
employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive.
5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is
evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of
advertising resulted in fall of smoking.
(2) Opposed to the Government there are several arguments from Tobacco companies that

Roulette Chapter 3.1 Summary
Chapter 3.1: History of Probability . Roulette Roulette is a game where a person plays not against
another person but against a wheel. Roulette has thirty eight compartments where 1 36 are numbered
and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and are colored green.
People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette table. Then the dealer
spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball stops in one of the
compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on the table that wins as
well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8 compartment on the roulette
compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the wheel then the person gets $10 35 =
$350. The reason that you multiple it by 35 is due to the 35 to 1 odds of landing on space 8. Cards ...

In a deck of cards there are four hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades. The diamonds and hearts are red,
while the spades and clubs are black. The picture cards are jack, queen, king, and ace. Example: How
many hearts are there in a deck of cards? What fraction of the deck is hearts? Four and ¼.

Advantages Of Objective Motion Devices
Introduction
Continue passive motion is the passive motion performed by a mechanical device that move a joint
slowly and continually through a controlled of range of motion (Carolyn Kisner, 2012). Continue
passive motion device exist in the market for nearly every joint in the body such as shoulder continue
passive motion machine, knee continue passive motion machine, elbow continue passive motion
machine and ankle continue passive motion machine. Continue passive motion device allow the joint
to move for hours in time. Continue passive motion device make the joint to flex or extent in a preset
range of motion and time of repetition. The movement produce by the device is slow and controlled
and thus the patient does not actively exert force on the muscle to produce movement. Continue

Duration for applying continue passive motion is usually less than one week or when the certain desire
range is reached. Continue passive motion device can be used in home since it is portable.
Physiotherapist can instruct the caregiver or family member the proper use of the device since it is
benefit to the patient.
7. Continue passive motion device is adjustable, easy control, versatile and portable. There are some
devices which allow the individual to wear for up to 8 hours since it is operate by using the
rechargeable battery.
Disadvantage of the continue passive motion
1. Continue passive motion brings the detrimental effect. Using continue passive motion will cause the
need for greater analgesia intervention and increased postoperative blood drainage.
2. Cost of using the continue passive motion machine, patient compliance, utilization and supervision
of the equipment by trained personnel, length of hospital stay, speed of recovery and determination of
appropriate patient population become issues to consider whether or not to utilize the continue passive
motion device (Carolyn Kisner,

Kangaroo Research Paper
Ever wonder what kangaroos are like? Or what do they eat or even live? Well I have for a very long
time and have now decided to research, take notes and write a report on the Australian animal the
kangaroo. We will be going over that the look like what they eat where they live and even what
predators they need to watch out for. First lets go over what a kangaroo looks like. A kangaroo has tall
long ears kinda like a rabbit. They have long ears to help sense danger. They also have a long tail to
help keep balance(its tail can be up to 40 inches long!!!). It is also well known for its muscular legs.
The reason their legs have tobe strong is cause instead of walking they hop which requires lots of

Essay on Comparing a Tabloid and a Broadsheet
Comparing a Tabloid and a Broadsheet On September 11th 2002 almost all newspapers around the
world wrote articles concerning the attacks on the World Trade Centre, which had occurred in the
previous year, and were known to be planned by the infamous Osama bin Laden. I have compared two
newspapers written on September 11th a year later. A tabloid paper, and a broadsheet. The tabloid
article appeared in The Daily Mirror and was written by Tony Parsons, and the broadsheet article
appeared in The Guardian and was written by Mark Hertsgaard.
The tabloid article commemorates September 11th 2001 and analyses the effects of the attacks ...

The article is written by Tony Parsons, and could also be aimed at fans of his, as he is a writer who has
written many books. In this article Tony Parsons gives only his opinion, which is very biased against
the Muslim world, which suggests that it could also be aimed at readers with similar opinions and
interests.
The Guardian articles target audience are more literate readers because it has a lot of complex words
such as underlying assumptions . More educated and intelligent readers could read it because it has no
pictures and has twelve long paragraphs. It goes into a lot of detail and has many interviews (to justify
arguments) and this is typical of a broadsheet newspaper. People who have a lot of time to read an in
depth article, which shows many opinions, would usually read this. This article is less biased which
suggests that it could be aimed at someone who is open to the idea of finding out more information
about a particular subject by understanding both sides of the story.
Tony Parsons purpose in writing his article is to make self loathing, American hating liberals feel
ashamed, and to convince people not to hate America. He does this by reminiscing about the
September 11th attacks. He says, What touched the heart about those who died in

All Members of the Family Matters
Family, a close weaved group of people inseparable because of links of shared history, love, caring,
and understanding which links them to one another and ignites a since of belonging and togetherness.
Members of a family are like the patches of a patchwork quilt. Like the patches of the quilt, family
members are of different sizes, shapes, and colors but although different they all play a part in creating
a masterpiece which bond is only as strong as the weakest link. It s these differences in sizes, shapes,
and colors which makes patchwork quilt so unique and amazing to the public today. Family works the
same way you have different types of people with completely different mindsets, hobbies, and careers
but family is special. Family has a linkage between them, a certain bond that may not be visible by eye
but the bond is so strong that no matter what happens or how far apart they are, they will always be
linked back to the other members of the family. But what happens when you put another angle to the
common institution of family? What happens when that person in your family who shares this linkage
is a pet? Does this change the definition of family just because the subject at hand is something other
than human?
My substantive definition of family helps me too be able to accept pets as members of the family.
Under the definition of law, family is the formal social recognition and affirmation of a bond as
family, particularly in the form of marriage and adoption. Pets are

Breaking Bad Analysis
Breaking Bad Log 1 Vince Gilligan s Breaking Bad is a TV series about Walter White, a chemistry
teacher, who starts cooking Methamphetamine to provide money for his family. In an interview with
The New York Times, creator Vince Gilligan said the larger lesson of the series is that actions have
consequences . He elaborated on the show s philosophy: If religion is a reaction of man, and nothing
more, it seems to me that it represents a human desire for wrongdoers to be punished. I hate the idea
of Idi Amin living in Saudi Arabia for the last 25 years of his life. That galls me to no end. I feel some
sort of need for biblical atonement, or justice, or something. I like to believe there is some

Douthat went on to say that Walter White and Tony Soprano represent mirror image takes on the
problem of evil, damnation and free will . Walter as a man who deliberately abandons the light for the

opportunity to claw his way upward to the light. [31] Gilligan intimated he would inject undertones of
black comedy into the fifth season.[32] [edit]Pink teddy bear The pink teddy bear as seen during the

its missing eye. The teddy bear first appears at the end of the music video Fallacies for Jesse s fake

Argumentative Essay On Robotic Nurses
According to television programs such as Grey s Anatomy and ER, nurses are just minor people who
complete low skilled tasks, little does the world know that a nurse carries more of a responsibility than
changing bedpans and bringing food which does not make things like robotic nurses necessary, at all
(Hendren). Who would have ever thought that robots would be a controversial topic as to whether or
not they should assist a surgeon in surgery or even be considered a nurse? Even though the thought of
robotic nurses existing is being studied, it does not mean that it is an adequate invention or that it will
even occur. Robotic nurses will not be accurate or efficient and will never have the skill and education
that a human nurse portrays. These robots would assist a doctor in ... Show more content on

A robotic nurse s lack of accuracy, due to not having proper education and motives that a human has,
could cause major life threatening complications and challenges. There seems to be tons of knowledge
out in the real world that proves that mistakes can easily be made, especially when it comes to
assisting a doctor in surgery, for example. Having proper education and some sort of common sense is
a necessity no matter what it may possibly be. Therefore, when it comes to relying on nursing, a robot
might not be the best option. According to Nikki Cob and the San Bernardino County Sun, they feel as
though technology can definitely be useful and beneficial, but having a decent amount of reliance on it
can threaten lives (qtd. in the Truth About Nursing Inc.). Other challenges include providing
computers with the ability to understand the context in which gestures are made and to discern
intended versus unintended ones (HealthLeaders Media Staff). Robots can be efficient for many
things, but when it comes to simple, yet life threatening tasks it may not be the wisest option.

Essay on The Great Railroad Strike
The Great Railroad Strike
In the first half of the 19th Century the working class in the newly industrializing American society
suffered many forms of exploitation. The working class of the mid nineteenth century, with constant
oppression by the capitalist and by the division between class, race, and ethnicity, made it difficult to
form solidarity. After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the working class struck
back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The strike, which only lasted a few weeks, was the
spark needed to ignite a national revolt by the working class with the most violent labor upheavals of
the century.
Railroads were the big business of the mid nineteenth century. The rail companies employed ... Show

During this period, many Americans, and particularly industrialists and the emerging middle class,
came to embrace the doctrine of laissez faire. The poor were so because they lacked ability and
determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued
supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision of
society s survival of the fittest.
As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the railroad
that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among the people.
Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that then required
remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back.
In May of 1877 the Pennsylvania line announced another wage reduction of 10% to the worker s along
with speed ups (double the work). At this point the workers accepted it. Then in July of 1877 the
Baltimore Ohio line announced a 10% cut in pay. The workers questioned management, ‘how could
they survive on these wages and terms? But the owners did not listen, instead they took the position
‘quit if you don t like it .
On July 16, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, some of the workers decided to ‘quit and refused to work.
This spontaneous strike sparked protests in other cities including St. Louis,

Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America
Julia DeVincenzo Between the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the
colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver prompted
an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular especially during
Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and trade fees were to be paid
in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase in demand led to social
disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the documents, the rapid incline
in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects on colonial America, Japan,
China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts, the production of silver hurt
the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the scarcity of the silver coin is
what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes there is too much silver being
used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations. He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court
official, describes how much profit the country could make if it opened up its doors to trade with the
Europeans (document 7). However, the unregulated flow of silver into Ming China ultimately hurt the
economy. With similar beliefs to that of Xijue, Ye Chunji, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Portuguese act as the facilitators of silver production; going to Japan and gathering silver, than
using the silver to their advantage to trade in China. By making silver production easier and more
efficient, the Portuguese made a great deal of money (document 4). By the year 1697 the British
became more involved in trade. Charles D Avenant, an English scholar, shows the importance of
England staying involved in trade with other countries such as Asia and Europe because it will

A rare and aggressive type of skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma is frequent with people who

Relationship Between Indentured Servants And Slaves
The typical colonial planter s views were inconsistent due to the exploited non white races within the
vast majority of indentured servants and the economic manipulation of the British government.
Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial planters
and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early. When
indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were immediately
put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty percent of these
servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984). Inhumane exploitation

Analysis Of The Midnight Assassin
Terror is in Town The subject of the book The Midnight Assassin by Skip Hollandsworth is focused on
uncovering the truth behind who is truly at fault for the murders of Mollie Smith and, several other
victims. The murders occurred in Austin, Texas during the 19th century. Based on the first three
chapters, three prominent characters have been introduced. All three characters are currently prime
suspects. At the time, Austin was a prestigious town, equipped with the finest law enforcement made
first hand by god himself, the Texas Rangers. When the young yellow skinned slave Mollie Smith was
murdered, terror truly struck Austin. News reporters from all over Texas came to cover the story, thus
creating conspiracies about each suspect. Evaluation of each suspect and their motives to perpetrate
such a gruesome murder Walter Spencer, a hardworking slave, who had never done any harm; Tom
Chalmers, the brother of the land owner where the murder took place; Lastly, Dr. Ralph Steiner, the
esteemed doctor. Evaluation of the first suspect, is Walter Spencer. Walter Spencer is a hardworking
African American slave. Spencer is the prime suspect within the investigation of Mollie s murder.
Walter Spencer could possibly be the killer because after he visited Dr. Stiner s house he disappeared.
Spencer was closest to Mollie, he was her boyfriend at the time and shared the same sleeping quarters
the night of her murder. Spencer was the first to report that Mollie s body was missing.

The story Our Town by Thornton Wilder, takes place in Grover s Corners, a made up town in New

well as the citizens and families living there. The two main families in the story are the Gibbs and the

He does this by going forwards in time, to explain how several of the characters had died. It s the
beginning of act one, and the stage manager is introducing Grover s Corners and the characters. He
briefly talks about how several characters die later in time. Doc Gibbs died in 1930. The new hospital
s named after him. Mrs. Gibbs died first long time ago, in fact. She went out to visit her daughter,
Rebecca, who married an insurance man in Canton, Ohio, and died there pneumonia but her body was
brought back here. She s up in the cemetery there now in Hersey fore she married Doc Gibbs in the
congregational church over there. (Wilder, act 1, 7) The stage manager does this to emphasize the fact
that life is very short, and time can pass by in a blink of an eye. In addition to that, he also wants to
show that you should live out your life, so you won t regret anything when you re dead. For instance,
in one part of act 1, Mrs Gibbs was talking to Mrs. Webb about selling a piece of furniture for $355,
and using the money to go away on a trip. Later in act 3, she had died already, and never ended up
going on that trip. She even forgets about it at first, when Emily brings up the $355 that she left
behind for her and George. In summary, make the most out of your life, and enjoy it while you

What Is The Thesis Of Thomas Paine The Crisis No 1
Originally from Britain, Thomas Paine sailed to the now known United States and soon became a
journalist in favor for the colonial revolution. He wrote The Crisis No. 1 where with his use of
aphorisms and emotional appeals inspired the colonial soldiers to fight for their freedom. Thomas
Paine s writing was read to General Washington s troops before crossing the Delaware River to
motivate them and bolster both the citizens and soldiers morale.
First, It matter not where you live, or what rank of life you hold, the evil or the blessing will reach you
all. With this sentence Paine is informing the audience that what he is about to announce isn t only for
the rich, isn t only for the poor, or the middle class, but it is for the society as ... Show more content on

The message that he wants to use to persuade the audience is that they won t be fighting this war for
wealth or social status; instead they will be fighting so that the wealthy and the poor no longer have to
be under the rule of Great Britain.
Paine also associates the battle to being a good parent. He claims that when the war is fought and the
heart that feels not now is dead then their children will then curse their fathers by feeling shame that
their fathers were too much of a coward to fight for themselves and most importantly their children.
He aims at putting pressure to the soldiers saying that their children would most be ashamed that their
father has [shrunk] back at a time when a little might have saved the whole and made them happy,
causing the audience to feel guilt if they do not proceed into the battle with all their force.
In conclusion, Thomas Paine uses aphorisms, emotional appeals, and guilt to persuade the soldiers to
go into battle and give it their best because they will be fighting for the country. The soldiers can also
conclude that Thomas Paine thinks that if they do not fight this battle then it will be a great shame
upon him that even his children will dishonor

An incision is made around the edge of the areola, down to the breast crease and then along the breast
crease itself (horizontally). Dr. Esmailian removes the excess skin and uses internal sutures to lift,

drooping breasts. In addition, this anchor incision technique is the preferred method when Dr.
Esmailian is performing a breast reduction and breast lift, simultaneously.
Crescent Lift To perform a crescent lift, Dr. Esmailian creates an incision that runs along the outer
edge of the upper portion of the areola. Typically, this incision is used when a woman has minimal
sagging. Moreover, this is the incision technique utilized when a woman is having a breast

Periareolar Lift A donut shaped incision is created along the edge of the areola. The skin that remains

Communication Class I Loved It Essay
Within this communication class I loved it. Although of course it was hard to handle when Thurman
passed away. I believe when you took over the class, you did a wonderful job. I really liked that you
did not have examines because they give me anxiety and I do believe they are just a part of
memorization as well. Although you did have unlimited attempts on the quizzes online I personally
thought they were somewhat difficult. I do believe they should be challenging of course due to the fact
that they are there to see if we understood the material, but it was hard to do well on some of the
quizzes due to the difficulty. I did like that you did the unlimited quizzes though because they would
give the opportunity for me to go back and see what I did wrong and helped me understand the
material better. As for the presentations I really liked that you were not so strict about them in a way
and you always after the speech told me I did well. It boosted my confidence every time you told me
that I did well and it was much appreciated. When you made the atmosphere in the class seem more
relaxed during presentations and not so harsh it made the experience more calm and it made me feel
more comfortable. One thing I would have liked to have was more time between speeches though. I
just felt like they were so crammed together that there was not much time to prepare for them. I would

Gay Porn And Pornography
Pornography as an industry that has the ability to shape and mold pre teen and young adult lives.
Queer porn exists as a fetish, arguably for heterosexual individuals more so than homosexual
individuals. Pornography serves as a mechanism for learning about sex and sexual acts for almost all
individuals trying to figure out their bodies, but what does this industry actually promote? Gay
pornography, as a focus, has formational ties to dominance, the socially constructed closet, and queer
death as a whole. Porn exists as a pleasure system that suffices to satisfy sexual proclivities. To get to
the root of how porn creates the want for dominance, we also must consider the differences that exists
between gay porn and lesbian porn. Lesbian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bersani also speaks about how ...the moral taboo on passive anal sex and how to be penetrated is equal
to relinquishing power. The power dynamic that is projected through gay porn also serves as anti
female propaganda. The submissive party is usually portrayed as weak, having no control, and the
sexual acts are more likely to be seen as being forced upon this individual. From a heterosexual
standpoint, the woman is the submissive party. In today s society, a woman is arguably the worst thing
someone can be, so when submissiveness is connected to the insertee, one may tend to link that to
femininity; the worst thing one can have, assuming femininity is linked to womenhood. While
pornography works as a pleasure system, it can also work as a means of support for individuals who
are not open with their sexuality. The closet is a socially constructed safety net that protects queer
individuals. Positive queer representation in the media is almost non existent, but pornography allows
queer individuals to see themselves on a national platform. When queer characters are incorporated in
books and on the screen, they usually have tragedy connected to them. In a way, because of this, porn
can be seen as liberating; it is a platform that embraces homosexuality and doesn t conclude with
queer death or disaster. No, gay pornography is not the saving grace in terms of queer representation,
but as discussed in The Celluloid

Analysis Of Cathedral By Raymond Carver
A New Perspective Everyone at one point has judged a book by its cover. In the short story, Cathedral
, Raymond Carver creates a narrator who bases off ideas and assumptions about blind people from
movies. The narrator has never interacted with a blind person before the day where his wife invites her
friend, who is named Robert, to stay. The narrator and Robert have never met, but the narrator has a
strong dislike towards Robert before meeting. The narrator s closed mindedness and misconceptions
leads him to judge Robert, however after a few hours of interaction, the narrator learns more about
him and grows to have a new perspective about people not being who they think they are. The narrator
is pre judgemental towards all people who are blind, whether or not he has met them. He believes all
blind people are the same as those he has watched in movies. The narrator perception of the blind is
that they moved slowly and never laughed and when they went out they were led by seeing eye dogs
(Carver 104). The movie industry creates a false image of the blind, which leads to the narrator s
assumptions. However, the blind are not all the same, just like how everyone else in the world are not
the same. People are designed to be different in their personalities, thoughts, looks and much more.
The narrator s ideas of Robert are based off of false conceptions and this changes his attitude towards
Robert. The narrator already has strong feelings towards Robert before meeting him

Speech On Empathy
Have you ever heard the saying that goes place yourself into the shoes of others ? Let s analyze and
take a deep look into the phrase. By placing ourselves into somebody s shoes we develop a feeling of
connection with them, better known as empathy. The question is, what is empathy? Empathy is the
ability to understand and share the feelings of others. People often confuse empathy with pity, but it is
actually aiming the understanding of people s feelings and perspectives. And by understanding them
we learn how to use them to guide our actions. I believe that in order to change our society, people
should be able to learn how to feel empathy or compassion for others. The Bible tells us in Romans
12:15 to Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
I believe empathy is formed at home. When we are kids, our parents teach us the golden rule, which
is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As we grow older, we are taught that it´s
important to care about people s feelings. We grow up with the idea that we shouldn t only care about
ourselves, but always be concerned for others. In my opinion, everyone should desire ... Show more

Even though it seems to be a difficult process, the results would be totally worth it. Step number one is
to cultivate curiosity about strangers. By doing this, we find other people more interesting than
ourselves, decreasing our level of selfishness. Step number two is to challenge prejudices. Our society
is marked with labels. These labels avoid us from appreciating individuality. Instead of looking for
things that divide us, we should be searching for what we have in common and in a way what unites
us. This way, we could get an easy way or path into equality, fairness and sensibility. Last but not
least, we should listen hard and open up . Listening is not enough, we need to open our hearts and

Penguin Ballet Analysis
A composer depends entirely upon the nature of the film for all the clues needed to write a suitable
score for a film. Brought into the production after a certain amount of film has been shot, the films
concept will dictate how the composer will write the music. Whether based on the story line, or
providing information by setting an atmospheric state, film music will always have different purposes
between different films. Penguin Ballet by Nigel Westlake was composed to focuses upon the
graceful, almost ballet like movements of the penguins underwater. Whereas, Writings on the wall by
Sam Smith conveys ideas and messages which will be expressed throughout the film, especially
through the use of lyrics. Although positioned within the film to provide contrasting messages, both
these songs use similar musical elements to support the piece, and its position with the film. The
discussion of this essay is that there are similarities between the musical elements that support the
lyrics in a song and the action in a documentary. Through this, we will discuss the musical element s
of pitch, and timbre and texture.
Through the use of pitch, each piece was able to develop motifs to represent specific personalities on
the screen. Nigel Westlake successful achieves this within the Penguin Ballet. Mirroring the fluidity
and beauty of the penguins beneath the polar ice caps, it could be stated that the guitar and the harp,
most commonly represent the penguins. Played with almost a

Leonardo also used the arts and science hand in hand as was the humanist philosophy. Humanism also
led to Leonardo s study of the human anatomy in order to have a greater understanding of the human
body and to portray them more accurately in his work. Leonardo went as far as defying the Roman
Catholic Church to dissect corpses for his work. He studied nature and anatomy for hours on end to
produce graphic paintings that were used as manuals. Which leads to a second point, Leonardo da
Vinci was a secular person. He was a lefty that at the time was seen as the devil s work and he
continued to use his left hand, even though he became ambidextrous. His peculiar and distinguished
portraits also demonstrate Leonardo s perceptive endeavor towards aesthetics . Though Leonardo s
work is primarily Christian themed or related, he boldly created masterpieces that were pagan or non
religious in nature. This also shows the gradual change of mind of people from the Renaissance from
extremely religious and conservative to slightly more liberal. Leonardo broke free from what was the
standard norm and religious asceticism as was the case with many other artists. He believed in
discovery and that life was worth living now. Leonardo revolutionized styles of painting. He rebelled
against the customary oils and used vibrant colors of tempera to create his masterpieces. He was

The Kentucky Open Records Act Of 1976
Introduction
The Commonwealth of Kentucky enacted law governing open records in 1976. The law mandates
agencies release applicable records to the public upon appropriate requests. The Louisville Metro
Police Department adopted a policy to address and comply with this law. I will review and discuss
how LMPD applies its policy in order to stay in compliance with this law. I will also evaluate any
improvements to the policy for better or more efficient application.
Summary of law
Kentucky s open records laws are covered under Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) 61.870 61.884.
The law was enacted as a result of the Kentucky Open Records Act of 1976. In summary, the law
requires government agencies to release records for public examination. Specifically, KRS 61.871
states The General Assembly finds and declares that the basic policy of KRS 61.870 to 61.884 is that
free and open examination of public records is in the public interest and the exceptions provided for
by KRS 61.878 or otherwise provided by law shall be strictly construed, even though such
examination may cause inconvenience or embarrassment to public officials or others. The records
include documents, photographs, recordings, and reports. The law details how government agencies
are required to respond to requests, which records are exempt, application of fees and an appeal
process for denied requests. The main source of requests comes from media sources and attorneys
however anyone can make a request.

Imagining the Future in Iraq Essay
Imagining the Future in Iraq
The future of Iraq remains unclear. There are those who have tried to categorize the current conflict as
the next Vietnam. Others have dubbed it the next Afghanistan, and others still see a future for Iraq
unlike any seen in history. In the midst of all this speculation, one thing is certain: eventually, the US
military must withdraw from occupied Iraq. As a matter of history, occupation does not last unless
there is a concomitant colonization and/or a significant population influx. Since the latter is absent
from the current situation in Iraq, it holds that an eventual American military withdrawal is inevitable.
Interestingly enough, the U.S. s divide and conquer method, i.e. one which attempts ... Show more

Just as in George Orwell s 1984, where the government was in the business of tampering with public
records to push their agenda, so too is the current administration sugar coating the truth with falsehood
and deceptively harming the American public by keeping them in the dark. Wouldn t it be ironic
though if Iraq managed, as in Iran, to take over the American Embassy and declare the independence
of its own theocratic state?
The current situation does after all mirror Iran s prior to the Revolution of 1979 in several ways. The
United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the
established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty percent
of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large groups during
such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of gathering en masse.
Also, just like the thousands of troops the U.S. has stationed around the country, so too did the Shah
employ tens of thousands of SAVAK agents, or secret police, to keep a tight grip on any potential
insurrection. Ultimately, the instability of the mass protests frightened the Shah and he fled to Egypt
shortly afterwards. In Iraq, escalating American deaths and an unstable situation could convince the

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Embryonic Stem Cells
What are embryonic stem cells, why are they different from adult stem cells and how could they help
cure disease?
Embryonic stem cells are the stem cells that exist only at the earliest stage of embryonic development.
These cells have been proven to be able to replicate and divide themselves an infinite amount of times.
They are able to produce identical stem cells or are specialised to form specific cells of the somatic
tissue (body tissue). Embryonic stem cells have been proven to be able to form all cells of tissue in an
adult organism. Although they can form cells of all somatic tissue they are unable to form cells of
extra embryonic tissue, such as the placenta, and so they would not be able to give rise to new
individuals. (Anon. (2014). Stem Cell Research and Abortion. [online]) Embryonic stem cells are

The reason certain people agree with embryonic stem cell research is because they believe that the
cost of diseases to the government and to households is too high and by finding a cure these costs

they feel that the embryos have already been destroyed by the abortion and so would go towards better
use to improve human life rather than just be discarded. People feel that society s values will not be
undermined by such research. Some people believe that if it is not immoral to use embryos for fertility
treatment then it shouldn t be considered unethical to use embryos to cure devastating diseases. A
study in the USA showed that 58% of people favoured embryonic stem cell research. (Getintolife.org,

  • 2. Mapp V. Ohio Court Case Mapp V Ohio Court Case Summary The event took place in Cleveland, Ohio, when Dollree Mapp s house was entered by police officers, who weren t carrying any official search warrants. The police believed she was sheltering a suspected bomber; no evidence or bodies were found, but police discovered a chest containing explicit pictures stored within her basement these pictures violated state law. With this discovery, the police arrested Mapp due to the vulgar images they obtained. Once arrested, Dollree claimed that her fourth amendment of rights had been violated by the police, and ultimately brought her case to the supreme court. The supreme court came to the decision that illegally seized evidence shall not be authorized for use in criminal prosecutions in federal courts and later broadened this ruling to state courts. Decision The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects citizens against unlawful searches and seizures a warrant with reasonable justification to lead a search is required, in this case protecting Mapp from further conviction (since the police entered without any search warrant). Her case, which was brought to the US supreme court, ended 5/3 in her favour. Ohio court case impacted the American population because it enforced the rule that police officers are not authorized to use illegally obtained evidence (breaking the fourth amendment) in court, by applying the exclusionary rule. The fourth Amendment says that government authorities can t conduct direct searches or seizures without warrants to support their search. Be that as it may, the amendment does not explain what happens in the event that they may conduct an unlawful search. • 3. The Concept Of Transference Within Psychodynamic... n this essay, I will provide a critical analysis of the concept of transference within psychodynamic psychotherapy. I will begin with a discussion into the development of the psychodynamic paradigm and psychoanalysis and how it has developed from its original founder Sigmund Freud to the influence it has in therapy within the modern present day. The essay will go on to explore the techniques used specifically within psychodynamic psychotherapy. I. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy Psychoanalysis was first given its name in the 1980 s by Sigmund Freud. The theory was both founded and developed by Freud and plays a significant role in our understanding of Psychology and the human mind in this present modern day. Freud held a strong interest within the unconscious mind and believed unconscious thoughts and feelings to be at the root of psychological distress (Cabaniss, 2011). The aim of psychodynamic therapy is to bring forward the thoughts that hide deep within the unconscious, into the conscious mind to allow for psychological and self awareness to develop within the client. The Psychodynamic paradigm is seen to hold a rather deterministic view towards humanity. According to the theory, humans are made up of inner instinctive drives (Rizq, 2010) and forces of which our thoughts, emotions, and thus our behaviour is motivated and driven by. Freud theorised that humans repressed certain emotions, desires and thoughts in infanthood (not childhood??). It therefore became an aim of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Case Ban On Tobacco Ads And Talks About The Conflict... This essay is a case study analysis that uses the case Ban on Tobacco Ads and talks about the conflict of interests between tobacco producers and the Government of India. In Feb 2001 the Government of India published the news on tabling a bill that bans Tobacco companies on advertising cigarettes and sponsoring the sports and other cultural events. (1) There are several arguments that support the Government s decision: 1. Protection of people s health. As World Health Organization states that the 3 million deaths in 1990 occurred as a result of smoking and in 1998 it raised to 4.023 million. 2. Preventing the children aged 14 24 years from being smokers. According to internal document from R J Reynolds (1998) the bright advertising of the cigarettes that had a camel s picture on the packing was attractive to children and stimulated teenage smoking. 3. Contributions of cigarettes to the budget of India is 0.14% versus the health costs which account for 0.21%. 4. Provision of employment by the tobacco industry is an illusion because those who will not be employed in the tobacco field will be employed somewhere else and will be more labor intensive. 5. Complete bans on the tobacco products give a better decrease in tobacco consumption. This is evident in the investigation of UK s Department of Health (1992) which found out that the banning of advertising resulted in fall of smoking. (2) Opposed to the Government there are several arguments from Tobacco companies that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Roulette Chapter 3.1 Summary Chapter 3.1: History of Probability . Roulette Roulette is a game where a person plays not against another person but against a wheel. Roulette has thirty eight compartments where 1 36 are numbered and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and are colored green. People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette table. Then the dealer spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball stops in one of the compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on the table that wins as well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8 compartment on the roulette compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the wheel then the person gets $10 35 = $350. Essay on Comparing a Tabloid and a Broadsheet Comparing a Tabloid and a Broadsheet On September 11th 2002 almost all newspapers around the world wrote articles concerning the attacks on the World Trade Centre, which had occurred in the previous year, and were known to be planned by the infamous Osama bin Laden. I have compared two newspapers written on September 11th a year later. A tabloid paper, and a broadsheet. The tabloid article commemorates September 11th 2001 and analyses the effects of the attacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article is written by Tony Parsons, and could also be aimed at fans of his, as he is a writer who has written many books. In this article Tony Parsons gives only his opinion, which is very biased against the Muslim world, which suggests that it could also be aimed at readers with similar opinions and interests. The Guardian articles target audience are more literate readers because it has a lot of complex words such as underlying assumptions . More educated and intelligent readers could read it because it has no pictures and has twelve long paragraphs. It goes into a lot of detail and has many interviews (to justify arguments) and this is typical of a broadsheet newspaper. People who have a lot of time to read an in depth article, which shows many opinions, would usually read this. This article is less biased which suggests that it could be aimed at someone who is open to the idea of finding out more information about a particular subject by understanding both sides of the story. Members of a family are like the patches of a patchwork quilt. Like the patches of the quilt, family members are of different sizes, shapes, and colors but although different they all play a part in creating a masterpiece which bond is only as strong as the weakest link. It s these differences in sizes, shapes, and colors which makes patchwork quilt so unique and amazing to the public today. Family works the same way you have different types of people with completely different mindsets, hobbies, and careers but family is special. Family has a linkage between them, a certain bond that may not be visible by eye but the bond is so strong that no matter what happens or how far apart they are, they will always be linked back to the other members of the family. But what happens when you put another angle to the common institution of family? What happens when that person in your family who shares this linkage is a pet? Does this change the definition of family just because the subject at hand is something other than human? After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the working class struck back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The poor were so because they lacked ability and determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision of society s survival of the fittest. As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the railroad that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among the people. Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that then required remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back. • 13. Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America Julia DeVincenzo Between the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver prompted an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular especially during Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and trade fees were to be paid in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase in demand led to social disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the documents, the rapid incline in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects on colonial America, Japan, China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts, the production of silver hurt the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the scarcity of the silver coin is what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes there is too much silver being used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations. He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court official, describes how much profit the country could make if it opened up its doors to trade with the Europeans (document 7). The narrator s closed mindedness and misconceptions leads him to judge Robert, however after a few hours of interaction, the narrator learns more about him and grows to have a new perspective about people not being who they think they are. The narrator is pre judgemental towards all people who are blind, whether or not he has met them. He believes all blind people are the same as those he has watched in movies. The narrator perception of the blind is that they moved slowly and never laughed and when they went out they were led by seeing eye dogs (Carver 104). The movie industry creates a false image of the blind, which leads to the narrator s assumptions. However, the blind are not all the same, just like how everyone else in the world are not the same. People are designed to be different in their personalities, thoughts, looks and much more. The narrator s ideas of Robert are based off of false conceptions and this changes his attitude towards Robert. The narrator already has strong feelings towards Robert before meeting him ... • 33. Speech On Empathy Have you ever heard the saying that goes place yourself into the shoes of others ? Let s analyze and take a deep look into the phrase. By placing ourselves into somebody s shoes we develop a feeling of connection with them, better known as empathy. The question is, what is empathy? Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. People often confuse empathy with pity, but it is actually aiming the understanding of people s feelings and perspectives. And by understanding them we learn how to use them to guide our actions. I believe that in order to change our society, people should be able to learn how to feel empathy or compassion for others. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:15 to Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. I believe empathy is formed at home. When we are kids, our parents teach us the golden rule, which is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As we grow older, we are taught that it´s important to care about people s feelings. We grow up with the idea that we shouldn t only care about ourselves, but always be concerned for others. In my opinion, everyone should desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it seems to be a difficult process, the results would be totally worth it. Step number one is to cultivate curiosity about strangers. By doing this, we find other people more interesting than ourselves, decreasing our level of selfishness. Step number two is to challenge prejudices. Our society is marked with labels. These labels avoid us from appreciating individuality. Instead of looking for things that divide us, we should be searching for what we have in common and in a way what unites us. This way, we could get an easy way or path into equality, fairness and sensibility. Last but not least, we should listen hard and open up . Listening is not enough, we need to open our hearts and feelings to create an empathic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Penguin Ballet Analysis A composer depends entirely upon the nature of the film for all the clues needed to write a suitable score for a film. Brought into the production after a certain amount of film has been shot, the films concept will dictate how the composer will write the music. Whether based on the story line, or providing information by setting an atmospheric state, film music will always have different purposes between different films. Penguin Ballet by Nigel Westlake was composed to focuses upon the graceful, almost ballet like movements of the penguins underwater. Whereas, Writings on the wall by Sam Smith conveys ideas and messages which will be expressed throughout the film, especially through the use of lyrics. Although positioned within the film to provide contrasting messages, both these songs use similar musical elements to support the piece, and its position with the film. The discussion of this essay is that there are similarities between the musical elements that support the lyrics in a song and the action in a documentary. Through this, we will discuss the musical element s of pitch, and timbre and texture. Through the use of pitch, each piece was able to develop motifs to represent specific personalities on the screen. Nigel Westlake successful achieves this within the Penguin Ballet. Mirroring the fluidity and beauty of the penguins beneath the polar ice caps, it could be stated that the guitar and the harp, most commonly represent the penguins. Played with almost a ... Leonardo also used the arts and science hand in hand as was the humanist philosophy. Humanism also led to Leonardo s study of the human anatomy in order to have a greater understanding of the human body and to portray them more accurately in his work. Leonardo went as far as defying the Roman Catholic Church to dissect corpses for his work. He studied nature and anatomy for hours on end to produce graphic paintings that were used as manuals. Which leads to a second point, Leonardo da Vinci was a secular person. He was a lefty that at the time was seen as the devil s work and he continued to use his left hand, even though he became ambidextrous. His peculiar and distinguished portraits also demonstrate Leonardo s perceptive endeavor towards aesthetics . Though Leonardo s work is primarily Christian themed or related, he boldly created masterpieces that were pagan or non religious in nature. This also shows the gradual change of mind of people from the Renaissance from extremely religious and conservative to slightly more liberal. Leonardo broke free from what was the standard norm and religious asceticism as was the case with many other artists. He believed in discovery and that life was worth living now. Leonardo revolutionized styles of painting. He rebelled against the customary oils and used vibrant colors of tempera to create his masterpieces. • 37. Imagining the Future in Iraq Essay Imagining the Future in Iraq The future of Iraq remains unclear. There are those who have tried to categorize the current conflict as the next Vietnam. Others have dubbed it the next Afghanistan, and others still see a future for Iraq unlike any seen in history. In the midst of all this speculation, one thing is certain: eventually, the US military must withdraw from occupied Iraq. As a matter of history, occupation does not last unless there is a concomitant colonization and/or a significant population influx. Since the latter is absent from the current situation in Iraq, it holds that an eventual American military withdrawal is inevitable. Interestingly enough, the U.S. s divide and conquer method, i.e. one which attempts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as in George Orwell s 1984, where the government was in the business of tampering with public records to push their agenda, so too is the current administration sugar coating the truth with falsehood and deceptively harming the American public by keeping them in the dark. Wouldn t it be ironic though if Iraq managed, as in Iran, to take over the American Embassy and declare the independence of its own theocratic state? The current situation does after all mirror Iran s prior to the Revolution of 1979 in several ways. The United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty percent of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large groups during such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of gathering en masse. Also, just like the thousands of troops the U.S. has stationed around the country, so too did the Shah employ tens of thousands of SAVAK agents, or secret police, to keep a tight grip on any potential insurrection. Ultimately, the instability of the mass protests frightened the Shah and he fled to Egypt shortly afterwards. In Iraq, escalating American deaths and an unstable situation could convince the ... • 39. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Embryonic Stem Cells What are embryonic stem cells, why are they different from adult stem cells and how could they help cure disease? Embryonic stem cells are the stem cells that exist only at the earliest stage of embryonic development. These cells have been proven to be able to replicate and divide themselves an infinite amount of times. They are able to produce identical stem cells or are specialised to form specific cells of the somatic tissue (body tissue). Embryonic stem cells have been proven to be able to form all cells of tissue in an adult organism. Although they can form cells of all somatic tissue they are unable to form cells of extra embryonic tissue, such as the placenta, and so they would not be able to give rise to new individuals. (Anon. (2014). Stem Cell Research and Abortion. [online]) Embryonic stem cells are immortal since the chromosome ends are able to retain themselves after each cell division. Serving as a sort of repair system for the body, they can theoretically divide without limit to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People feel that society s values will not be undermined by such research. Some people believe that if it is not immoral to use embryos for fertility treatment then it shouldn t be considered unethical to use embryos to cure devastating diseases.
