Optometry College Essay Examples
Optometry is the perfect fit that blends my professional goals, my interests in science, and healthcare
with individual strengths of compassion, relational service, and leadership. It is affirming when
passion meets purpose, and for me, the optometry profession is just that. My passion in life is to serve
others and to improve their health and well being, while my purpose is to reach my full potential as a
medical provider. My inspiration to pursue a career in optometry arises from a combination of my
natural strengths, my life experiences, and my triumphs over life s hardships.
As a teen, I had the opportunity to volunteer on a summer mission trip that focused on serving the
homeless population in San Francisco. Stricken by poverty and drug addictions the Tenderloin District
was unlike anything I had ever seen. Instead of passing judgment or feeling intimidated, I chose to
serve these people with compassion and respect. What I experienced during this time was
transformational and helped to direct me on a pathway towards service.
Service to the community has always been a significant part of my purpose in life. I have committed
time to the youth and athletics as an athletic supervisor for the City of Ellensburg, a youth baseball
and basketball coach, and summer camp counselor. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope to utilize my skills as an optometrist and leader to serve the local community and give back to
those in need. My current gap year has been essential in my development as a future health care
provider, hopeful optometrist, and engaged community member. I have diversified my training at
Kittitas Valley s Open Door Health Clinic where I have gained exposure working with a patient
population that does not have access to the traditional health care system. I look forward to continuing
my volunteer service both as a board member and hands on

Analyzing Thorstein Veblen s The Theory of the Leisure Class
In 1899 Thorstein Veblen wrote The Theory of the Leisure Class: An Economic Study of Institutions.
In this work, Veblen presented critical thinking that pertains to people s habits and their related social
norms. He explores the way certain people disregard the divisions that exist within the social system,
while subsequently emulating certain aspects of the leisure class in an effort to present an image of
higher social status. He also presented the theory of conspicuous consumption, which refers to an
instance when a person can fulfill their needs by purchasing a product at a lower cost that is equal in
quality and function to its more expensive counterpart; however, said person chooses to buy the more
expensive product, by doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luxury fashion items can be acquired via several different avenues, as well as at several different
price points in today s market. Previously, the only options consumers had for the acquisition of
luxury fashion goods was to purchase directly from the retail store; however, now there are an
enormous amount of resources for consumers to opt for a used product at a much lower price by
shopping on websites like eBay, or by purchasing from the growing amount of high end consignment
stores. Another option that luxury fashion consumers can easily utilize is to buy the item new and at a
cheaper price by shopping at outlet stores or discount department stores like Nordstrom Rack and T.J.
Maxx. Finally, these consumers have the option to borrow. Websites like BagBorrowOrSteal.com have
created hugely profitable businesses by making the latest luxury accessory available to be rented at a
cost that is a fraction of what the item would cost if purchased new from the retailer. These options
have granted a much larger array of people the opportunity to experience aspects of the luxury
lifestyle and the luxury image than ever before.

St. John s Case Study
In 1939, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth start raising money to build a new hospital (Hospital
Wall/Baker 23). When the ground broke in 1941, it would only take until 1942 for the St. John s
Hospital to be complete (Hospital Wall). Today, St. John s Hospital still stands in Santa Monica, just
celebrating it s 40th year of leadership and philanthropic support (Baker 23). With the mission

Disability Movement
Prior to reading this article I never truly understand the harsh conditions that the disabled had to live
with prior to the disability movement. While reading this article I questioned how individuals abusing
the disabled got away with doing so for so long. Yet, while further reading through the article I
realized that this abuse may have resulted in lack of education on disabled individuals and possible
fear of the disabled. The article spoke about how the disability movement did not really start until after
Dr. Samuel Gridley started a school for idiotic children (Pfeiffer D. 1993). This was a start to helping
disabled more, but a very small start at that. Soon after the school was shut down for dehumanizing
the disabled. I feel that this idea was a great idea and start to the disabled movement but was not run
right therefore was abused and used the disabled individuals for labor work instead (Pfeiffer D. 1993).
One of the movements I thought was inspiring and finally helped the Disability Movement turn in the
right direction was the AFB, American Foundation for the Blind. This ... Show more content on

I feel this article would be beneficial for everyone to read to get a basis on the start of the movement,
but that there is still much work to do. There is still much bullying and abuse toward disabled
individuals that I feel could be improved by more education on the matter. I know growing up I was
not taught much about disabilities until I went to college and further educated myself on the matter.
The definition of disabled in this article starts out with a very important statement: with respect to an
individual (Garcia, S. 2013). I feel that much respect is yet to be built and with further education on
the matter from historical overviews, such as what Pfeiffer wrote, we can learn what not to do and
how to move

Romeo And Juliet Not In Love
In the timeless tale of romeo and juliet, Two young lovers from feuding families have a whirlwind
love affair. they meet at a party, flirt and secretly marry in the time period of a day. hours later they are
separated, and desperate attempt to be together, they miscommunicate their escape plan and end up
killing themselves because they can not live without each other. I believe there relationship is
infatuation because you can not fall in love how fast they did. Although many people will see romeo
and juliet s passionate affection at true love it is best described as infatuation
if romeo and juliet are not in love then why would they have committed suicide over each other.
Although this may be true but if you think about it you can not love someone if you don t know them

The Chemistry Of A Heating Bath
A heating bath is used in the laboratory to allow the chemical reaction to occur at an elevated
temperature around 1000C. The beaker is a glass vessel which contains the chemical solutions for the
purpose of coating. It is placed in the electroless bath where the chemicals are being heated up. The
glass rod is used to stir the chemical where the magnetic stirrer is not necessary. The tongs are used to
lift the bath after the coating is completed. Tri sodium citrate and thallium acetate are the chemicals
used during coating process which acts as a stabilizer for the bath. It stabilizes the reaction occurring
in the bath. Laboratory grade distilled water is used for the cleaning process and also to mix up with
the chemicals. Nickel chloride acts as the source for the coating process as the nickel is being coated
upon the surface of the substrate. Ethylene di amine is used as a complexing agent which creates a
bond between the nickel and aluminium and causes the coating. Thallium acetate is used as the
stabilizer. Sodium borohydride is the reducing agent which removes the hydrogen ions which are
being formed up inside the bath during the coating process. Fig.1 Zincate pre treatment process

Martin Luther King Jr and His Opposition to the Vietnam...
Martin Luther King Jr and His Opposition to the Vietnam War
The American public knew about Martin Luther King long before they had ever heard about the war in
Vietnam. King was associated with the war in Vietnam only after accomplishing his finest civil rights
works, and after US involvement in Vietnam was already nine years old. They met in 1965, and
battled each other until King s death in 1968. By 1965 King saw a federal voter rights bill passed for
minorities, had national financial support, and even gained the backing of President Johnson himself.
We all know Martin Luther King Jr. as the man who helped desegregate America, as a great civil
rights leader. But seldom do we know King as the outspoken anti war advocate that he was ... Show

By freedom he meant total desegregation of every public facility and the right to vote for Blacks. He
expressed his anguish during the struggles he faced against the Montgomery political system in
Alabama, I saw further that the underlying purpose of segregation was to oppress and exploit the
segregated, not simply to keep them apart ( Autobiography 70).
It all started in Montgomery, Alabama when King and nonviolent demonstrators brought bus
desegregation to the city. With that, he gained national fame. Shortly after, King became chairman of
the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), to expand his mission field to the whole
South. The group first moved in on Birmingham, Alabama to show that King s nonviolent methods
worked universally and could bring about desegregation in the US. After victory there, King began to
implement the Birmingham strategy all over the nation, until 1964 when Johnson signed a civil rights
bill desegregating all public facilities. Later that year King received the Nobel Peace Prize, which to
him symbolized the world s desire to move toward peace for all people of the world. In Selma,
Alabama he led marches calling for voting rights. The brutality that the racist local government
showed led Johnson to call for a voting rights bill, which was easily passed in 1965.
These first ten years of King s career accomplished the most in terms of legislation. He had done in
just ten years what many had been trying to do for the

Essay on The Word Retard
Words can have a huge emotional impact on people, and often affect their self image and self worth. It
is words like retard or retarded for one, which can surely lead to such a result. People in today s
society are not aware of the true and hurtful meaning of this word when they use it. No matter when it
is used or how it is used, it will always have the negative connection with those who have such mental
disabilities. Futhermore with such frequent use, those suffering from these disabilities, will feel
different from others; as if they are labelled. In no way should the word retarded be acceptable in a
society of today; for all will just become worse.

The word retarded hurts people so much that it makes them feel different from others. People who
have a mental illness start to believe that they are below the average human and that they are not the
same as others. The word is so offensive that it starts separating these people from the society. On top
of that, in relation to this negative meaning, people as such will be ultimately feeling labbeled. Just
like the Jewish people during the Holocaust, these people will be looked as differently, when in the
end, we are all humans. This one word can ruin someone s life which is why it should not be used. The
word retarded is one of the many reasons why segregation still exists today; it separates innocent
people for no reason.
Plenty of people suffer because of the word retarded , it is extremely offensive and hurtful that it
causes individuals to feel different and plays a major role in segregation. The word retarded directly
insults and abuses people who have a mental illness. The word is always used negatively whether it is
used to discriminate or to make fun of someone. The word can also be used in verbal bullying. There
is no other purpose for the word retarded besides being used to hurt people; the word is only used
offensively to hurt people that is why it should not be used.
Regardless of its definition, retarded has long ago been used as a flexible

High School Football Injuries Analysis
When an individual signs up to join the high school football team, he or she should be very aware of

common, nobody expects to get injured, including myself. I figured I was immune to a major injury,
however that all changed very quickly one friday night. I was all smiles heading into week four of the
2016 high school football season. After being told I broke the starting lineup, offensively and
defensively, I was more than prepared for the game. After working my tail off sophomore year, I felt
this opportunity was well deserved. After the conclusion of the Thursday morning practice, my friends

A New Police Chief Mentoring Project
The International Association of Chiefs of Police Research Center Board of executives, Smaller Law
Enforcement Agencies Technical Assistance Program developed a New Police Chief Mentoring
Project (IACP, 2013). Supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice, the
focus is to make available official support to newer law enforcement leaders in the first three years of
appointment, who are serving in smaller populations less than 50,000 citizens. As cities expand
geographically and demographically, police departments face additional challenges determining
efficient and effective ways to make use of officers and resources (Roberts, 2000). Administrative
planning and decision making is necessary for efficient and effective operations management in any
setting (Roberts, 2000). Police administrative planning becomes the first step in successful
management of the department. Planning provides administrative officials with better information, an
analysis of the problem at hand, clarity of goals, objectives, and procedures (Swanson, Territo, Taylor,
2012). Planning results in more active distribution of resources, program development and
performance, increased inter and intradepartmental collaboration and organization. Planning provides
the opportunity for greater public support and a clear sense of direction for the police department with
increased commitment of personnel. There are many approaches to planning. However, the most
commonly used approach is

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
Title:
Clinical approach to a case of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (Investigations, management and
complications).
Introduction:
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a number of autosomal recessive disorders, it is due to mutations of
enzymes responsible for adrenal steroidogenesis. Deficiency of 21 hydroxylase enzyme is the most
common form of CAH, responsible for about more than 90% of the cases. This limits the ability of
adrenal glands to produce the vital hormones cortisol and aldosterone. The absence of these hormones
causes the body to produce excessive androgen which can cause ambiguous genitalia in female
patients.[]

The term financial services became more prevalent in the United States partly as a result of the
Gramm Leach Bliley Act of the late 1990s.
which enabled different types of companies operating in the U.S. financial services industry at that
time to merge.[2]
B. Companies usually have two distinct approaches to this new type of business.
One approach would be a bank which simply buys an insurance company or an investment bank,
keeps the original brands of the acquired firm, and adds the acquisition to its holding company simply
to diversify its earnings.
Outside the U.S. (e.g. Japan), non financial services companies are permitted within the holding
company. In this scenario, each company still looks independent, and has its own customers, etc. In
the other style, a bank would simply create its own brokerage division or insurance division and
attempt to sell those products to its own existing customers, with incentives for combining all things
with one company.

Compatable Work Ethic
I myself believe that a six hour workday is more of a compatable work ethic for workers and
employees because it helps to improve the work place, workers become more focused, and it also
helps workers gain energy to start an objective by staying motivated. An you may either agree or
disagree with me, but remeber everyone has their own shared oppinion. For instance, It will help
improve the workplace because, it will gain more money towards your paycheck and company. I with
no doubt have experienced it because my old boss took us on a deep sea fishing trip and payed for all
of the expences for our company trip. It also helps to create a healthy environment for workers an

In the text it states that workers must be focused to be effective. but yet again it says workers must get
a break to recharge themselves to increase more high productivity in the company. Finally, workers
gain enough energy and motivation to start and finish an objective. I have witnessed it with my own
eyes by seeing people usually waking up on the wrong side of the bed and just dont feel the need to
work, and thats many men I have work with when in construction. But when there is a length in the
time you work from, many men and woman will have the sense of encouragment to do what needs to
be done, instead people usually working an eight hour shift would not even have any type of grit in
themselves. for example in the text it says, Most people do their best thinking in late mornings and
afternoon. This is partly due to biologic cycles of energy and motivation. In conclusion, I believe that
a six hour workday would be more effective for workers and employees, but most importantly the
company itself. Heres why, it will help improve the workplace, help workers become more focused in
their work, and also help the workers gain more energy and motivation to start and finish an objective.
So rather then the following, I believe that the six hour workday should be something in consiteration

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Mercedes Ad Of The Red Sl...
What is it about an advertisement that makes people want to purchase that item? Could it be the idea
of showing it off, personal attraction, or utilizing it in everyday life? The advertisement I chose to
analyze does absolutely stunning in doing all three and more. The Mercedes ad of the red SL class car
gives off a romantic look due to the color of the car and the caption on the left; and a rough and
powerful look at the same time from the rigid mountainous background. The images looks extremely
realistic, like every detail of it was picked up by a high tech camera. The main focus of the image is
the front of the car closest to the foreground, with it going out towards the other parts making it one
elegant picture. Ethos, Pathos, and logos play a major role in this ad to appeal to the audiences senses
and attract the viewers the ad is aimed towards. This ad does marvelous in using rhetorical techniques
to appeal to the viewer and persuade them to purchase this car. My ad has a mountainous background
with a tint of blue in it, giving the impression of it taking place in the morning and the feeling of the
cool breeze right before the sun rises. The sun can be seen beginning to rise on the right side slightly
above the car; with the full capacity of the suns light being obscured by the mountain in front of it. A

Morton s Toe Research Paper
Take off your shoes. Look down at your feet. Is your second toe longer than your big toe? If so, you
have Morton s toe. Morton s toe is a skeletal disorder, in which the first metatarsal is shorter than the
second metatarsal. Metatarsals are the bones that attach to the toes or known as phalanges. Individuals
often mistake Morton s toe of the second toe being longer than the first, but it is actually the second
metatarsal that is longer than the first metatarsal; therefore, the second toe seems longer than the big
toe. Morton s toe was discovered and named by Dr. Dudley J. Morton who was a physician,
orthopedic surgeon, researcher, and author in the 1920 s ( Fehrs). It could also be referred to as
Morton s Foot Syndrome and Greek Foot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is congenital meaning it is present at birth. Also, Morton s toe may be caused when the first
metatarsal bone is abnormally short compared to the second metatarsal bone and when the first
metatarsal bone has more motion, which means it is unstable. This instability is known as
Hypermobility of the First Metatarsal Bone (Schuler). Additionally, Morton s toe can be simply
recognized without an X ray. Some symptoms are more noticeable than others. For instance, if one
looks at his feet and notices that his second toe is longer than the first, he has Morton s toe. If the
space between your first and second toe appears to be deeper, not wider, but deeper than the space
between your second and third toes, you have Morton s Toe ( Morton s Toe ). An individual can also
detect Morton s toe by holding down his toes and finding bumps where the metatarsal bones end. He
will mark the location of the bumps and compare the lines. The first metatarsal bone is shortened if the
line for the second toe is closer to the leg than the line for the big toe ( Morton s Toe: Symptoms and
Treatments ). Excess skin between the toes is another possible sign for Morton s toe. More symptoms
of Morton s toe include pain in areas of the foot to the neck, callus formation, and musculoskeletal

Government Aid And Assistance During The United States
Government aid/assistance, or as others may know it, welfare, was created in order to provide
assistance and aid to those in the community that may be unemployed or in need of assistance due to a
lack of income for both individuals as well as families. In the beginning it was the federal government
that managed the assistance program but that was only until the government assistance reform took
place, which sent the jurisdiction back down to the states. There was a strong urge from the American
citizens to reform the system due to the fact that many Americans believed that the government
assistance program was being abused by those utilizing the program. Many Americans believed that
those utilizing welfare were not looking for employment, not marrying in order to gain more funding
and actually having more children in order to qualify for more cash assistance. Throughout this paper I
will discuss each of the subsequent topics: a history of government aid/assistance in the U.S., a
synopsis of the situation that created the proposal as well as the enactments of required drug testing,
opinions in support of drug testing, ethical consequences based on this proposal for individuals, for the
society as a whole, and for public health. Government Assistance Government Assistance throughout
the U.S. is sometimes referred to as welfare or government programs, these programs were created in
order to help those that are unemployed or have little income get by. Government Assistance,

Improving The Changing Societal Norms Of Operations...
Productivity Check ; Efficiency Check ; Standardization Check ; Reverse Logistics????
Introduction
Manufacturing and Services has undergone many changes and has evolved tremendously over the
years. The evolution is primarily due to dynamic market place which changes according to changing
societal norms. Operations management is the result of interplay between these two, (ever changing
market and society) and in the process, adopted many new trends practices to serve the changing
societal demands. Thus, understanding of Operations in yesteryears is essential to anticipate what
beckons for it in the future. History of Operations
The modern operations origin can be traced to the Industrial Revolution which began around 1770s in
England. In its initial years only one person was responsible for production of goods from start to
finish and systems were not very developed; modern machines were not available.
With the advent of machine power, craft production started (skilled workers produce customized items
with simple, flexible tools). It lacked in achieving economies of scale and the process was too slow.
During 1950s
With the World War II, pressure grew on manufacturing which led to adoption of quantitative models
for different areas of operations management such as project management, forecasting and inventory.
During 1970 1980s
Quality Revolution: The world economy got liberalized and globalization set in. This onset led to
increased competition among firms

Aegeus Theory Of Theseus
Theseus, also known as Thiseas, is a Greek hero that ruled Athens as king. He was no god nor had any
special powers, just his strength and intelligence to give him a name for himself. There is many
theories on his origin, a question mostly of who his father is. One theory is his father is Poseidon, his
mother being Aethra. This comes into play later on when he is asked to prove his heritage to Minos,
which he does by retrieving his ring in the sea. He ends up being successful, but Minos just laughs this
action off as if it didn t matter much to him. Another theory is that Aegeus is Theseus father, which I
ve found more stories of because it aligns with the fact that Theseus was prince of Athens, and to be
that he d have to be Aegeus son. In both stories the mother is Aethra. Aegeus needed an heir, which he
left for Aethra to raise until he was ready to retrieve a sword and sandals left by Aegeus himself. When
Theseus became old enough to move the rock that was imprisoning his birthright, he headed to Athens
to meet his father and take his place as prince. This little adventure, according to Pantheon.org, turned
out to be quite rough, as Theseus encountered many troubles along the way. Dangerous and unsettling,
he ended up defeating multiple burglars, which made him a hero once he returned to Athens. Such a

Should Child Soldiers Be Granted Amnesty Essay
Child soldiers should be granted amnesty. The reason child soldiers should be considered as victims
are because they are forced into labor, drugged, and threatened into service. Many of these child
soldiers, after being rescued and rehabilitated, are able to be adopted into loving families and lead
normal lives. However, those who are sent back to where they became child soldiers will surely
commit those crimes again.
The first reason that child soldiers should be considered as victims are that they are drugged. In many
cases, after the child is taken away from their family, the warlords and their older soldiers will give the
children drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and narcotics to make them more obedient. In the case of a
boy named Ishmael Beah, he was forced into service by government soldiers through threats, cocaine
laced with gunpowder called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Snow Imagery in “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods on...
Robert Frost (1874 1963). Robert Frost was the most widely admired and highly honoured American
poet of the 20th century (Eiermann). Robert Frost was raised in rural New England where he grew a
fond love for the outdoors and nature (Merriman). His love with nature elements has probably
overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such as The Tuft of
Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. One of the nature imageries that have been used frequently by
Robert Frost is the snow imagery. Although the snow imagery appears in many other poems by Frost
we will be dealing with the poems Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Even

It is also because of the mysteriousness of the woods being lovely, dark, and deep (Frost, Stopping.,
line 13) that makes the speaker mesmerized. The snow in this poem gave the speaker calmness by the
woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in Desert Places the
snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow imagery made the
mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the themes of the two poems
different as well.
From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and Stopping by
Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other. The snow that
surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty, lonely place. It is
from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is clear that the speaker
s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes their outlook to be of only
loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is created from within of the
speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them and also the loneliness that
surrounds them, which is nature.

2 Analysis of Southwest Airlines 3.8 Industry
The recent economical and financial downturn severely impacted the airline industry in 2009 and
brought only small increases in 2010. The recession negatively influenced the discretional income of
travellers. More precisely, the leisure travellers and business travellers budget changes resulted with a
sudden decrease in their demand. Therefore, corporate policies tightened and generally the demand for
travelling decreased. On the other hand, demand for substitute products, such as video conferences
and surface travel, has increased. As a result, many airlines, including Southwest Airlines, responded
with capacity cuts and fare discounting. On the other hand, Southwest used the opportunity also to
further expand and because of its low fare services, it could enter new markets as well. 3.9 Company s
Overview
Southwest Airlines is described on the NASDAQ profile as a major passenger airline that provides
scheduled air transportation in the US . The company primarily serves short haul routes, but over the
recent years they have expanded their services to medium and long haul routes as well. Their unique
feature is that it only operates with Boeing 737 as it is a domestic low cost carrier company and it was
necessary to have aircrafts that are easy to maintain and repair. If a company only uses one type of

later spread to half a dozen other plants including Janesville, Wisconsin and Fort Wayne, Indiana. In
Flint, police attempted to enter the plant to arrest strikers, leading to violence; in other cities the plants

To What Extent Does a Marxist Reading of Lord of the Flies...
To what extent does a Marxist reading of Lord of the Flies lead to a fuller understanding of the novel?
Lord of the Flies is based almost entirely on Golding s view that evil is an inherent force in every man,
man produces evil as a bee produces honey . Golding acquired this belief while he was a soldier in the
Second World War. From that point on, he became extremely pessimistic about human nature, calling
it the disease of being human . This belief is shown very clearly, as he puts innocent children on a
deserted island, free of all corruption; free of an external threat, therefore with no need of an army;
abundant in food and supplies, therefore with no need to steal. Therefore, what evil was left could only

pig Napoli overthrows the power of Snowball because lot of the animals liked and approved to
Snowball more, much like Jack overthrows Ralph for the same reason. This gives rise to Karl Marx s
argument that It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social
existence that determines their consciousness . This means that as both novels were produced by the
socio political and economic circumstances, namely the Cold War, a dystopian era. The Marxist theory
of Class Conflict also helps us understand the novel better. It could be argued that the groups that form
on the island can be considered as classes . As the boys splinter into factions, some behave peacefully
and work together to maintain order and achieve common goals, while others rebel and seek only
anarchy and violence. It could be seen that Ralph and Piggy are the ruling class, the bourgeoisie, and
Jack and his hunters are the working class, the proletariat. This is because Ralph clearly establishes his
role as the chief, with an almost unanimous consent from the boys, which gives him the power to rule
over them. Alternatively, it could be argued that Jack possesses the highest Class status on the island,
due to his ownership of the choir, his hunters, he says to Ralph, See? They do what I want . Here it
could clearly be seen that Jack and his group no longer

After they left, Emily went up to the girl and asked, Are you okay? What s your name?
I m okay. My name is Passion, what s yours?
Hello, Passion, I m Emily, welcome to Ridgewood!
Thanks for interjecting; you re the first person to actually speak to me! Everyone else has ignored me

One of the most important things that I have learned in life is to know when to accept help when I

Emily said softly.
I guess you are right! mumbled Passion.
Then you agree to let me help you raise money to help your family with this financial burden, right?

Voltaire
Voltaire s Letters on England is a collection of written documents that Voltaire wrote between 1726
and 1729 on his experiences he had while staying in England. After its publication in French in 1734,
many people of French ethnicity saw it as a bashing of the French government, and even a little bit on
the Catholic religion. Voltaire does seem to be fairly favorable towards the English in his letters,
which is understandable after he was exiled in his homeland of France multiple times. In many cases
Voltaire saw in England what he wished to see in France. In England, Voltaire saw a land with a more
tolerant government, and freedom of religion as compared to France, which he saw as cruel and
oppressive. Voltaire goes into detail, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the many issues brought up in Letters on England that the French took as a slight
towards themselves after the letters were published. I believe that Voltaire was so firm on his belief of
a separation of religion and state because he himself was not a follower of any said religion. Although
Voltaire was not an atheist as many believed him to be. Voltaire did not believe that a person did not
have to be involved in any one religion to believe in God. Voltaire believed in a higher power one
supreme, intelligent being but not in any one particular religion. Although there are aspects of the
Anglicans that Voltaire does seem to disapprove of, he does believe the Anglicans to be more virtuous
than the French Catholics; another insult to the French people. In morals the Anglican clergy are more
virtuous than the French, and this is why....They are not called to the higher positions in the church

The Mona Lisa is a painting done by Leonardo Da Vinci within the years of 1503 and 1519, done in
Florence Italy. The subject in the painting was Francesco del Gioconda s wife, and it took four years
for Leonardo to paint. The Mona Lisa painting depicts a woman seated in front of a vast mountainous
landscape with a mysterious smile and aura. The eyes have a luster and watery sheen, as well as the
skin, has shades and tints. The nose and eyebrows are shaped with such precision that only a master

Leonardo Da Vinci created this piece to show the Renaissance period at its peak.
When the public eye saw this piece they said it was an epic demonstration of the naturalism at that
time. The Mona Lisa was a glorious representation of the talent that humans possessed.
It made the people think and it benefitted people s minds because the painting left people asking
questions. This painting was created during a very excellent time for art, and since the
Mona Lisa was debatably the best painting of that time, that made the painting very famous. The

Child Labor In Ghana
Child Labor: Gold Mining in Ghana It is estimated that one in every seven children, worldwide, are
used for child labor. Child labor is a serious issue in our society and needs to be solved immediately.
There are thousands of children all over the world who have to work unbearable hours and complete
dangerous jobs that expose them to toxic chemicals and these kids get paid less than an average person
who makes minimum wage. Child labor is not only happening here in the United States of America
but is also happening in places such as Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Latin America,
and in some parts of Africa. For example, in Ghana many kids are getting exposed to a toxic chemical
named Mercury. Mercury is harmful to adults but it is extremely dangerous and potentially fatal if
children are exposed to it. Mercury can cause attacks on the victims nervous system which can cause
lifelong disabilities. The United Nations (UN) defines child labour as any work that deprives children
of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and which is harmful to their physical, moral, and
mental development (Awuku, Mabel D., and Ampomah Patience. Child Labour is Harmful to the

The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics
What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of right
and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to
society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is right or
wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something. It is for us
to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be responsible of
our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on ethics because of
differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political views. To really
understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow the golden rule if
we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you Health Care Ethics is a set of moral
principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care. (Vermont Ethics
Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly guided with good
principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights,
privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its residents. As a healthcare provider, we must possess the
good virtue of honesty, the most important quality we can bring to our job. As the saying goes,
honesty is the best policy. Telling the truth is acceptable when one

Compare And Contrast The Natchez Tribes
The Natchez and Iroquois Native American peoples have some interesting correlation and differences

matriarchal descent group. They had a socio political system which included the following in

They were both matriarchal societies, and to be part of a group, you either had to be born into it, or

most powerful political positions. The Nobles held secondary positions, and the Honored Men held
some small political positions. The Commoners did not seem to have any political position. They all

Essay On Arts Integration
When I was working for Girls Rock Math a summer camp that incorporates arts activities as a method
of teaching math concepts with the intention to spark young girls interest, I noticed a significant
increase in the girls interest when arts activities were present compared to when it was just plain math.
The first and second graders in my class appeared to be much more excited about the subject and more
concentrated when the teacher was trying to explain the instructions. This discovery makes me
wondering about the influence of arts integration has on students learning. Defined by The John F.
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students
construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. By integrating arts into core subjects
teaching, educators are allowing students to learn through the arts, with the arts or accompanied by art
lessons. In fact, arts education has been constantly associated with higher individual achievement.
Established in 2012, the No Child Left Behind Act confirms learning the arts as a core academic
subject that all school should incorporate. It puts arts on equal footing with the other core subjects and

The Importance Of Group Communication
1. Group communication is thought of to be the process of acting or responding to information
someone else has brought to our attention (Beebe, Masterson 2012). Individuals make up a group
when the number of members exceeds two and, although debated amongst researchers, reaches
somewhere between twelve and twenty (Beebe, Masterson, 2012). A small group recognizes
communication amongst a small group of people who share a common purpose, who feel a sense of
belonging to the group, and who exert influence on one another (Beebe, Masterson 2012). Meanwhile,
Beebe and Masterson (2012) also explain that a team is a coordinated group of individuals organized
to work together to achieve a specific, common goal while maintaining a rather structured sense. It is
to our understanding that teams differ from groups in a number of ways including: team goals are
often more specific and measureable, roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, rules are
expectations are written, and take a lot more coordination and collaboration (Beebe, Masterson 2012).
While a primary group exists to meet human s needs to associate with others, a great example of this
would include a group of your college friends, whom have all graduated, meeting up for an informal
get together; whereas a secondary group s main purpose is to accomplish a task or achieve a goal such
as a study group that gathers in order to learn and understand information (Beebe, Masterson 2012).

Interaction And Labeling Theory
Interaction and Labeling Theory
The interaction and labeling theories are focused on the meaning of crime and criminality. (Bohm
Vogel). The criminalization process is the primary focus instead of the peculiarities of the criminal
actor. They believe that criminals are the product of a negative social reaction.
The interactionism and labeling theory comes from the symbolic interactionism of George H. Meade.
(Bohm Vogel). Meade based his ideas on 3 propositions. The first is that human beings act toward
tings based on the meaning things have for them. People interpret the same events based on the
meanings attached to them the second is that the meaning of things are based on the social interactions
that one has with his fellows.

Barings Bank collapsed because it was unable to meet SIMEX s margin call. The bank of England was
unable to save it due to the weariness of investors, they believed it was a black box and there wasn t

African Ferican Vs African Americans
We fought for our rights to become one as an individual, to have freedom and liberty as the next race.
We ve been ridiculed because of the color of our skin and disrespected by the rude derogatory names.
We fought for the right to be labeled and called an African American instead of nigger, Negro, and
color people, amongst other things. It was thought to be a respectable term but is now raising feuds
amongst African Americans who have different tones of black and brown on their skin. An African
American has totally different morals and cultural beliefs than an African who was born and raised in
the countries of Africa. They have a different way of living, a different government and law, and
different struggles. A shared complexion does not equal a shared culture, nor does it automatically
lead to friendships, says Kofi Glover, a native of Ghana and a political science professor at the
University of South Florida. Whether we like it or not, Africans and African Americans have two
different and very distinct cultures. (TRACIE REDDICK) African Americans aren t always accepting

What Is Voltaire s Idea Of The Round Table
The Painting Round table by Adolph Menzel is a painting that shows, people like Voltaire gathered
around in the round table in the palace of the Prussian King Frederick II. The era of this painting was
during the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a time where western thought and culture was a big
deal, this thought came around in the 1700s. Science, philosophy, society and politics where all
subjects on what thinkers thought in depth about during this time. These ideas took away the medieval
thinking and brought a new modern thinking in place of the medieval thinking. (
What began the Enlightenment was the scientific revolution, The rise of the new science progressively
undermines not only the ancient geocentric conception of the cosmos, but, with it, the entire set of
presuppositions that had served to constrain and guide philosophical inquiry. (Bristow, 1). The new
thoughts that came with the scientific revolution were a big success. The Enlightenment also had to do

Convention were often unpredictable, as he would often change his mind in what he prefered the
government would become after the Convention. Gerry did not want the Articles of Confederation

Politics And Crime Statistics Essay
How Politics Affects the Use of Crime Statistics by Government and Other Agencies and Players in
the Canadian Justice System
With crime being an issue that generates such great public interest, crime statistical facts are often
overshadowed by political influences with different actors seeking to project a certain kind of
narrative with regard to how they are managing the problem at different levels of operation. This
paper discusses the different uses and users of crime statistics and how politics affects the use of those
statistics.
Statistics is a body of methods and principles used to extract meaningful information from a given
dataset to help in decision making. Statistics are vital in understanding crime and is very important in
reviewing existing policies and development of ideal private and public policies concerned with crime

The first group of users is government law enforcers. Local police divisions in Canada record
incidents of crime that occur in their precincts. The recorded information is then accumulated,
compiled and then transferred to the UCR (Nazaretian Merolla, 2013). The local police departments
use the information to provide reports of their own about crime under their jurisdictions each year. The
provinces will also use the reports gathered from all police departments in the region to report issues
about a crime to the public and state officials. Besides giving a general indication of crime at the
community level, crime information is used to make strategic decisions both tactical and operational
(Boivin, 2013). The data is used to brief police staff on the nature of occurring and on going issues
related to crime in their jurisdictions. This helps to keep track of criminal events and formulate
different methods of combating such occurrences. The crime data is also supporting the heads of
police departments to have proper managerial control of their tactical operations in the

Analysis of Remarke´s All Quiet on the Western Front
A major reiterated theme of Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front focuses on Bӓumer, the
narrator, and his comrade s accurate view of World War I and how greatly it contrasts to the ideas of
the older generation who persuaded the youth to join the war for defending Germany. An analysis of
Bӓumer s attitude toward the war reveals that the world of his former authority no longer exists. His
first encounters on the front shatter his trust and belief in the views and teachings of the generation
that should have been their mentors, directing this inexperienced Iron Youth (18) into the world and
preparing him for what would have been his future life. Now, Bӓumer realizes that, if he survives the
war, he can never return to ideas or desires of his youth nor ever truly re enter into the lives that the
generations before and after him belong. The older generations, consisting of Bӓumer s parents and
teachers, receive the war with a joyous enthusiasm of a chance to display German might and honor,
though no one had an idea of what the soldiers, their children, would have to endure. They, especially
Bӓumer s teacher Kantorek, took every possibility to persuasively impress this patriotic idea upon the
younger generation: that duty to one s country is the greatest thing (13). This generation, the ones who
were to equip and direct the younger so that they may survive in this world, was basically sending
their sons in blindly and completely unprepared for the true horrors of

Psychosocial Development Analysis
Erik Erikson is famous for his theory of psychosocial development, which emphasizes the
sociocultural development and created eight stages that children undergo psychosocial conflicts.
Children ages five to twelve go through the stage of industry vs. inferiority. The stage industry vs.
inferiority is were children develop a sense of competence at useful skills and tasks during their
middle childhood (Berk Meyers, 2015). Children during this stage experience self doubt and their self
esteem tends to be low. Fifth graders should have a rite of passage that marks an important stage in
their life, which is competency during middle childhood. The first stage that fifth graders should
overcome is separation for the week long program. The program will consist of a five day camp trip to
the Yosemite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fifth graders would be transitioning from early childhood to middle childhood after the program is
finished. The instructors involved in the program will have small activities with the children to ensure
they feel welcomed and be able to openly discuss skills/tasks they would like to improve within the
five days. On the fourth day of the program children will demonstrate that they achieved industry by
preforming the play indicated in the first day. On the five day, children would have a surprise party
where family members and friends would be present. The party will take place in Yosemite National
Park to end the program. The party will be a formal transition to middle childhood for all the fifth
graders. Every child would have to demonstrate in the ceremony how their weak ability became a
strength in front of instructors, family member and friends to ensure their competencies within the
program. The accomplishment that children would have achieved is an increase in their self esteem
because children would be aware that they are able to accomplish anything in

  • 2. Optometry College Essay Examples Optometry is the perfect fit that blends my professional goals, my interests in science, and healthcare with individual strengths of compassion, relational service, and leadership. It is affirming when passion meets purpose, and for me, the optometry profession is just that. My passion in life is to serve others and to improve their health and well being, while my purpose is to reach my full potential as a medical provider. My inspiration to pursue a career in optometry arises from a combination of my natural strengths, my life experiences, and my triumphs over life s hardships. As a teen, I had the opportunity to volunteer on a summer mission trip that focused on serving the homeless population in San Francisco. While reading this article I questioned how individuals abusing the disabled got away with doing so for so long. Yet, while further reading through the article I realized that this abuse may have resulted in lack of education on disabled individuals and possible fear of the disabled. The article spoke about how the disability movement did not really start until after Dr. Samuel Gridley started a school for idiotic children (Pfeiffer D. 1993). This was a start to helping disabled more, but a very small start at that. Soon after the school was shut down for dehumanizing the disabled. It all started in Montgomery, Alabama when King and nonviolent demonstrators brought bus desegregation to the city. With that, he gained national fame. Shortly after, King became chairman of the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), to expand his mission field to the whole South. The group first moved in on Birmingham, Alabama to show that King s nonviolent methods worked universally and could bring about desegregation in the US. After victory there, King began to implement the Birmingham strategy all over the nation, until 1964 when Johnson signed a civil rights bill desegregating all public facilities. Later that year King received the Nobel Peace Prize, which to him symbolized the world s desire to move toward peace for all people of the world. The evolution is primarily due to dynamic market place which changes according to changing societal norms. Operations management is the result of interplay between these two, (ever changing market and society) and in the process, adopted many new trends practices to serve the changing societal demands. With the advent of machine power, craft production started (skilled workers produce customized items with simple, flexible tools). He was no god nor had any special powers, just his strength and intelligence to give him a name for himself. There is many theories on his origin, a question mostly of who his father is. One theory is his father is Poseidon, his mother being Aethra. This comes into play later on when he is asked to prove his heritage to Minos, which he does by retrieving his ring in the sea. He ends up being successful, but Minos just laughs this action off as if it didn t matter much to him. Another theory is that Aegeus is Theseus father, which I ve found more stories of because it aligns with the fact that Theseus was prince of Athens, and to be that he d have to be Aegeus son. When Theseus became old enough to move the rock that was imprisoning his birthright, he headed to Athens to meet his father and take his place as prince. This little adventure, according to Pantheon.org, turned out to be quite rough, as Theseus encountered many troubles along the way. Dangerous and unsettling, he ended up defeating multiple burglars, which made him a hero once he returned to Athens. His love with nature elements has probably overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such as The Tuft of Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. The snow in this poem gave the speaker calmness by the woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in Desert Places the snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow imagery made the mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the themes of the two poems different as well. From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other. The snow that surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty, lonely place. It is from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is clear that the speaker s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes their outlook to be of only loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is created from within of the speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them and also the loneliness that surrounds them, which is nature. The recession negatively influenced the discretional income of travellers. More precisely, the leisure travellers and business travellers budget changes resulted with a sudden decrease in their demand. Therefore, corporate policies tightened and generally the demand for travelling decreased. On the other hand, demand for substitute products, such as video conferences and surface travel, has increased. As a result, many airlines, including Southwest Airlines, responded with capacity cuts and fare discounting. On the other hand, Southwest used the opportunity also to further expand and because of its low fare services, it could enter new markets as well. 3.9 Company s Overview Southwest Airlines is described on the NASDAQ profile as a major passenger airline that provides scheduled air transportation in the US . The company primarily serves short haul routes, but over the recent years they have expanded their services to medium and long haul routes as well. Lord of the Flies is based almost entirely on Golding s view that evil is an inherent force in every man, man produces evil as a bee produces honey . Golding acquired this belief while he was a soldier in the Second World War. From that point on, he became extremely pessimistic about human nature, calling it the disease of being human . This belief is shown very clearly, as he puts innocent children on a deserted island, free of all corruption; free of an external threat, therefore with no need of an army; abundant in food and supplies, therefore with no need to steal. • 31. The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is right or wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on ethics because of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you Health Care Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care. (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its residents. • 34. The Importance Of Group Communication 1. Group communication is thought of to be the process of acting or responding to information someone else has brought to our attention (Beebe, Masterson 2012). Individuals make up a group when the number of members exceeds two and, although debated amongst researchers, reaches somewhere between twelve and twenty (Beebe, Masterson, 2012). A small group recognizes communication amongst a small group of people who share a common purpose, who feel a sense of belonging to the group, and who exert influence on one another (Beebe, Masterson 2012). Meanwhile, Beebe and Masterson (2012) also explain that a team is a coordinated group of individuals organized to work together to achieve a specific, common goal while maintaining a rather structured sense. It is to our understanding that teams differ from groups in a number of ways including: team goals are often more specific and measureable, roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, rules are expectations are written, and take a lot more coordination and collaboration (Beebe, Masterson 2012). While a primary group exists to meet human s needs to associate with others, a great example of this would include a group of your college friends, whom have all graduated, meeting up for an informal get together; whereas a secondary group s main purpose is to accomplish a task or achieve a goal such as a study group that gathers in order to learn and understand information (Beebe, Masterson 2012). 2.
