Ozone in the atmosphere protects life at Earth's surface from UV radiation's harmful effects. Greenhouse gases like nitrous oxide, methane, and carbon dioxide trap heat from the sun, keeping Earth warm. Increasing levels of these gases from sources such as car exhaust, factories, and deforestation cause global warming by trapping more heat in the atmosphere.

This is a big problem for many of the plants, animals, and people on islands. The water covers the plants and causes some of them to die. When the plants and animals die, people lose two sources of food, plant food and animal food. They may also lose their homes. As a result, they would also have to leave the area or die. This would be called a break in the food chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to another and so on.

6. Green house gases
• Green house gases are: Nitrous oxide, methane & CO2.
• Theses gases are very important to Earth as they trap the sun’s heat,
keeping our Earth warm .
• If the percentage of these gases increase, more heat will be trapped
in our Earth causing the temperature of Earth to rise “Global
warming”.
• Smoke of cars & factories & deforestation “cutting down trees” cause
an increase in the percentage of green house gases which results in
global warming.
