WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is a long-term rise in
the average temperature of the
Earth's climate system, an aspect
of climate change shown by
temperature measurements and by
multiple effects of the warming.
It is due to human activities and rapid
industrialization.
5.
CAUSES OF GLOBAL
WARMING
1.Emission of greenhouse gases
2.Burning of fossil fuels {CO2,CO}
3.Deforestation[cutting trees]
4.Green House effect-main cause
5.Slow tilting of earth’s axis
6.Natural calamities,automobiles
7.Rapid Industrialization

7. When the solar energy reaches earth ,it is absorbed ,reflected,
transmitted.
Due to the atmosphere some radiations are reflected back into
the space.
The amount that is transmitted or absorbed is used by the
biodiversity.
After reaching the earth some part is again reflected
But this time the heat won’t go into the space as it is captured by
some gases of atmosphere like CO2, CO ,CH4 etc.
These gases trap the heat and keep the earth in warm condition.
These are known as green house gases and this effect is known
as green house effect.
The same principle is used in nurseries.
Green house effect

Global Warming
Advantages
Reason for survivability
Alternative source of
energy
Less winter deaths
Keeps the earth in
warmer condition
Disadvantages
Melting of ice caps
Increase in sea level
Loss of habitats
Extreme heat
Ecological imbalance
Extension of species

Ozone Layer Depletion
Ozone is a O3 molecule formed in the
stratosphere due to the action of UV
radiations. Ozone (O3) is a molecule formed
by three atoms of oxygen. While O2, which
we normally refer to as oxygen, is essential
for all aerobic forms of life. Ozone, is a
deadly poison. However, at the higher
levels of the atmosphere, ozone performs an
essential function. It shields the surface of
the earth from ultraviolet (UV) radiation
from the Sun.
12.
This radiation is highly damaging to
organisms, for example, it is known to
cause skin cancer in human beings.
Ozone at the higher levels of the
atmosphere is a product of UV
radiation acting on oxygen (O2)
molecule. The higher energy UV
radiations split apart some molecular
oxygen (O2) into free oxygen (O)
atoms. These atoms then combine with
the molecular oxygen to form ozone
13.
14.
Ozone Layer depletion
This protecting layer in the stratosphere is
slowly depleting due to human activities.
And if this continues the harmful UV rays
enter and this leads to death.
Ozone depleting substances[ODS] like
CFC’s ,CO,CO2 ,HCFC’s ,HBFCs ,halogens,
CH3Br,CCl4, C2H3Cl3 are the main reason
for ozone depletion and these created a hole
in the ozone layer in stratosphere.

Measures to be taken to stop Global
Warming
Change a light
Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact
fluorescent light bulb will save 150 pounds of carbon
dioxide a year.
Drive less
Walk, bike, carpool or take mass transit more often. You'll
save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don't
drive.
Recycle more
You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year by
recycling just half of your household waste.
Turn off electronic devices
Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo,
and computer, when you're not using them, will save you
thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
18.
Use less hot water
It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot
water by taking shorter and cooler showers and
washing your clothes in cold or warm instead of hot
water (more than 500 pounds of carbon dioxide saved
per year).
Avoid products with a lot of packaging
You can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you
reduce your garbage by 10 percent.
Adjust your thermostat
Moving your thermostat down just 2 degrees in
winter and up 2 degrees in summer could save about
2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
Plant a tree
A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide
over its lifetime.

CONCLUSION
As we know that Global Warming is
not a prediction but it’s a happening!
And it’s our duty to stop it.
We have every right to use the
resources on earth at the same time
also have a responsibility to protect
them!!!!!!!
