GLOBALWARMING

What is GlobalWarming
 Global Warming refers to the increase the the Earth’s
temperature.
 The Earth’s temperature has increased approximately
1.33 degrees Fahrenheit over the last century.
 Predictions have been made that the Earth could
increase anywhere from 3- 9 more degrees over the
next century.
 The continued increase in the Earth’s temperature will
affect the global climates.
CAUSES OF GLOBALWARMING
 Global Warming is caused by the build-up of
greenhouse gases in the the atmosphere.
 The greenhouse gases are made from carbon
dioxide and other pollution that builds in the
atmosphere.
 The major polluter of carbon dioxide is coal burning
power plants.
 Other causes are fossil fuel burning transportation
and machines. Such as cars, trucks, planes, etc.
GLOBALWARMING
EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
 Disease: As the Earth’s temperature increases, warmer
climates will give way to disease carrying mosquitoes.
 Droughts: Increase temperatures will also bring more
droughts to already arid regions, such as Africa.
 Polar Ice Caps: The polar ice caps are melting and will
continue to melt. The ice caps are very important
because they deflect the sun’s rays. However, with less
ice, more heat is absorbed. Melting ice also affects the
levels of the oceans, which will affect the ocean’s
currents and the heating of the Eastern side of North
America and also Europe.
EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
CONTINUED
 With water absorbing more heat due to lacking
polar ice caps, we can expect more hurricanes of
large magnitude, such as Hurricane Katrina.
 Global Warming will also have a major impact on
ecosystems. For example, due to melting ice, polar
bears are forced to walk many more miles to find
food and are often drowning in the process.
 Due to the chance of frequent natural disasters,
more money will be spent to repair damages.

THINGSWE CAN DOTO HELP FIGHT
GLOBALWARMING
 We can help fight global warming by being efficient.
 Don’t waste electricity: Turn off lights that you are not
using, don’t turn the A/C on as low, use compact
fluorescent bulbs, buy energy efficient appliances.
 Fuel efficient vehicles: Buy fuel efficient vehicles, such as
a hybrid or electric vehicle. Opt to carpool or take a bus.
If it is a nice day, choose to walk or ride a bike to your
destination.
 Recycle: Recycling proper materials will help reduce
emissions released in creating new items.
