Being A Man In The Wonderer And Beowulf

To Be or Not To Be .. a Man
Being a man during the medieval period meant a lot more than being a man in the twenty first century.
There were certain expectations, and above all, different aspects when it came down to what being a
man was. Some things that are very evident are kinship, brotherhood, male to male relationships, and
bonding. While reading The Wonderer and Beowulf, it is very easy to pick out spots where these
different aspects are shown. So, how exactly do we know how these acts are being portrayed?
While reading Beowulf, right off the back the reader can get a sense of what being a man means.
There is a bond of unity from the very beginning. Brotherhood and kinship go hand in hand because
even though Beowulf did not need any help from the men who traveled with him, they all stood by
him and were there for moral support. The relationships between men seemed like they were a lot
more important, than those with women. Not only are women rarely mentioned during this time, but
when they were, they were often portrayed as damsels in distress. This is where kinship and
brotherhood go hand in hand. Just because these men were not of the same bloodline, that did not
make them any less of a family. There was always constant support, especially for Beowulf, and no
one ever really went against each other.
The bonding between men can be seen in two different ways in Beowulf. One way it can be seen is the

Theme Of The Autobiography Of An Ex-Colored Man
In The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man written by James Weldon Johnson, the theme that builds
up throughout the novel is identity is shaped by many different aspects, and, at times, it can be hard to
find. The main character, James Weldon Johnson, goes through multiple different aspects of society
with hardships and difficulties while he is finding who he is. In order to find his identity, James finds
out that he is a black man; he encounters many hardships; wonders if his passion is with music; and, in
the end, comes to identify himself as a white man.
Growing up Johnson is known by all, except his mother, that he is a white man. He is treated as a
white individual with white privileges. This doesn t really change until his second term of his first
year in school. The principal comes to talk to the students. When he requests this, he asks for all white
students to stand up. James stands, but his teacher says you sit down for the present, and rise with the
others (James Weldon Johnson 11). James, not understanding why, sits down with the other black
children. After school, James runs home and into his mother s ... Show more content on

But it specifically shows the consent struggle everyone faces finding one s identity in a society. It
shows the difficulty everyone has while finding his or her own identity. It shows a true, vivid picture
of a man fighting for his own identity and of his childrens through the hardships and success life
brings him.
It s hard for some people to find themselves, and it s easier for others. James Johnson is a good
example of this. In order to find his identity his mother dies, he moves to countless different places,
and meets thousands of different faces. Yet he doesn t find who he is until his children are born and his
wife ends up dying. He is brought to realize the difficulties life has to bring him to be able to enjoy the
simplicity of knowing who he

My Thoughts About Worldviews Essay
A worldview, in my opinion, is the way you look at the world and how you see God; a worldview is a
set of beliefs that directs the way you act. To determine your worldview, you must ask yourself a few
questions. Some of these questions include: Who is God? Where did I come from? Why do I exist?
What is my purpose in life? Answers in Genesis defines a worldview as the overall perspective from
which one sees and interprets the world. A worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the
universe held by an individual or a group. [1] To make this definition easier to understand, I ll use an
analogy. A worldview is like a pair of glasses. If you get the right prescription, you ll be able to see
really clearly. If you get the wrong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that Allah is god and that Muhammad is his messenger. They do not think Allah is a
knowable god and they do not believe in the Trinity. They do not believe in heaven but they believe in
a paradise and to go there you must do a certain amount of good deeds. Also, Muslims must complete
some tasks, often called pillars. These pillars include: confession, prayer, fasting, almsgiving,
pilgrimage, and in some cases, jihad. Like Christians, Muslims have a book of scripture, called the
Qur an, written by Muhammad. Islam philosophy also believes in the supernatural because of Allah.
Muslim philosophers, and some Christian philosophers, use the Kalam Cosmological Argument for
the existence of God. Although Muslims do believe in miracles, Muhammad never performed any.
This created some doubts but they still had faith in Muhammad. Some great Islamic philosophers are
Ahmad and Yusif Ali Hammuda Abdalat. Like Christians, Muslims believe in moral absolutes.
However, these absolutes come from Muhammad and the Qur an (or Hadith), rather than Allah,
because Muslims believe that Allah cannot be known. To help Muslims follow moral obligations, they
follow the Five Pillars. Unlike Christians, Muslims are motivated to do good because of their fear of
judgement. Another similarity with Christians and Muslims is the belief that a god created the earth
with order, design, and purpose. Sometimes, there can be

Strategic Challenges For Local Communities
Strategic Challenges for Local Communities The Department of Homeland Security released the 2014
Quadrennial Homeland Security Review on June 18, 2014 as required by the Homeland Security Act
of 2002 and its amendments. This review outlined the current state of preparedness, as well as the
future areas of concentration. It also determined six strategic challenges facing the nation: terrorist
threat; growing cyber threats; biological concerns as a whole; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal
organizations; and natural hazards. The basic building block of emergency management in the U.S. is
the local community. Each step begins here. Threat assessments are completed on the local level.
Planning, mitigation, and response are all responsibilities of the local community to support the state
and Federal practice using the guidance provided by both.
One of the best guidance documents for these communities is the Comprehensive Preparedness Guide
201 (CPG201). In this guide, communities will complete the Threat and Hazard Identification and
Risk Assessment. The THIRA has a detailed four step process in developing a robust Risk Assessment
to allow the community to develop its plans. The first step is to identify the threats and hazards of
concern to the community. Some of the challenges described by the Department of Homeland Security
may not be applicable to the community or may pose extremely limited threat. The second step in to
give the threats context which states how

Character Analysis Of Bushberry s Bushwick
Bushwick, directed by Johnathan Milott and Cary Murnion, is a frantic storyline of cat and mouse and
becomes obnoxious the more you watch. The storyline premises more excitement than is displayed,
and the characters fail the glue this story together.
A college student named Lucy (Brittany Snow) comes back to her hometown in Brooklyn on a
subway, when she walks into a civil war outbreak within the streets of Brooklyn s Bushwick
neighborhood. The state of Texas is abiding by the government operations and militia forces have
been sent to destroy and wreak havoc in the streets of Brooklyn, so that they can claim this territory as
their East Coast base. Lucy then becomes acquainted with a burly war veteran, Stupe (Dave Bautista),
who helps her travel across the city into safety. The intense escape extends for a treacherous five block
course and becomes bloodshed after each block. Lucy and Stupe must depend on each other to survive
the militia forces.
Brittany Snow and Dave Bautista do a great job showing their emotion throughout the film, yet it
might have been too much. This film was directed poorly, after every ten to fifteen minutes, the
characters would cry hysterically, even while the war is going right outside the door. This made it
difficult to watch, because the characters would stop to talk about their personal lives, yet their major
priority should be getting to safety. This was one of the major faults throughout this film.
Brittany Snow is an incredible actress

Detection or Identification of Trace Amounts of Explosives
The detection and/or identification of trace amounts of explosives.
The review of each method should include a description of the way the method works and the
advantages and drawbacks of the technique.
Introduction
An explosive, are reactive substances that contain a large amount of potential energy that can yield an
explosion if they are released rapidly, they are accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound,
and pressure. Mainly used in the mining industry for extraction of minerals and resources, explosives
have been used as a weapon of destruction. Explosives often contain oxidising substances such as
nitrates chlorates, and a binding agent such as ammonium and potassium, which can be detected and
analysed to prevent such substances from being used as a weapon.
Explosives detection is critically important in many field settings (e.g., military facilities, minefields,
crime scenes, and remediation sites) and has become a necessity for the safety of the general public
(e.g., at airports and mass transit areas), there remains a demand for inexpensive and reliable explosive
instruments for identifying specific explosives. High explosives are considered to be organic and
oxidizing, a relatively uncommon mixture that makes them tractable for molecular recognition.
On 22 December 2001 Richard Colvin Reid also known as the Shoe Bomber attempted to detonate
explosives packed into the shoes he was wearing, while on American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to
Miami.

T Cell Polarization
The classical view of Th1/Th2 paradigm argues that T cell polarization is determined by the nature of
the pathogen and their infectious cycle. Therefore Th1 response is triggered by intracellular pathogen
while Th2 response is triggered by helminth infections. Although microbes and local microbial
environment does affect T cell differentiation into Th1 or Th2, this is not the entire story. In this essay,
I will explain how the host can determine T cell polarization. Hormonal factors as well as the nature of
antigen presenting cells have an effect in preferential T cell differentiation.

This process is especially important during pregnancy where the fetus may be seen as foreign to the
immune system and therefore promoting secretion of pro inflammatory cytokine by Th1 response
resulting in abortion (2). This is further supported by the experiments that injection of IFN γ (3) and IL
2 (4) into pregnant mice can lead abortion and preterm labour. Therefore secretion of estrogen and
progestin from the placenta is responsible to immunotolerance of the fetus during pregnancy. As well,
in a study where C57BL/6 mice were infected with Leishmania major, pregnant C57BL/6 mice
mounted a Th2 response as opposed to the Th1 response mounted by control mice demonstrating that
during pregnancy, Th2 response is predominant (5). Huber et al. (6) demonstrated that when infected
with coxsackievirus B3, male BALB/c mice had higher serum IgG2a as well elevated levels of IFN γ
and IL 2. At the same time, female BALB/c mice infected with the same virus had higher IgG1 and IL

mice had a predominately Th2 response. Similarly, in a study

Working from home: the disadvantage Tina DiNunzio HRP7110 Human Resources Management Jodi
Smith October 23, 2014 Working from home can sound like a dream come true. However, like any job
situation there are many disadvantages to home employment that may become apparent over time. For
some, this can mean making a few adjustments to make the situation more tolerable. For others, the
disadvantages can be so powerful that they can put an end to the home office (Provenzano). As
technology, apps and costs bring people to conclude that working from home would be the best
situation, it s very important to consider the disadvantages of working from home, as these are often

The problem is that by working from home, you tend to take yourself out of the running for
promotions and work rewards (Turcotte). You will also find that in many cases, the job that you would
be promoted into can t be done from home so you simply won t be considered for it. This is a non
issue if you are content staying in the same position for the duration of your career. If, however, you
plan on getting ahead and moving up in your career field, then working from home could be a problem
(Turcotte). Home employment is sometimes not taken seriously by prospective employers, and it can
be viewed as a gap in the resume (Provenzano). One of the main reasons people tend to work onsite is
because they love doing it with the goal of getting promoted, so they can climb the corporate ladder. If
you are a freelancer or if you work from home, you might lose sight of these opportunities (Wall). If
you do freelance work, that means you are more of an independent contractor than a regular
employee. Sometimes people with home employment are often looked at as if they don t do real work
(Park). A large majority of the people working at home do not really feel like professionals despite the
size of the work load or opportunities. The main factor here is that, when you re at home, you feel at
home and you may be less motivated to perform the same as you would in a

Sex, Sexual, And Sexual Sexuality Essay
Secrets Desires
Our society has socially excepted explicit language as well as sexual undertones as a way of
introducing sex and pornography to our young people and mature adults alike. There are hidden secret
sexual desires simply because we are taught that if our sexual thoughts or desires are different from
others we are strange. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to engage in watching
pornography or engage in altered sexual desires that are outside of the vanilla spectrum. According to
Concepcion, C. M. (1999) To deny any women any form of sexual expression, including the
enjoyment and production of pornography can stunt sexual development and thereby, stunt the
development of our sexuality, forces women to question our intuition and police our desires .
Men and Women are being sexually inhabitied by the expression of engaging in sexual content such as
pornography by not being able to explore their needs under those circumstances they aren t able to
explore their needs, desires, and sexual needs. The issue might form when women began to think of
sexual freedom as a choice to please partners just to grab satisfaction of something missing from their
lives, allowing them to long for a touch within a conscious and unconscious state of mind. Some
would argue that the behavior would be the result of a missing father or a mother who didn t respond
with proper maternal instinct a child might have needed. There are so many avenues that expand

Overpopulation And Pollution For The City Of An Ideal City
Today, the cities of this world are awesome, tall buildings, high rates of development and of course,
the overpopulation and pollution. To combat this major issue in the modern world, we must put in a
standardised city template that cities must follow so that they are able to cope with the inevitable fact
of evolution and the factors such as global warming (true or not), overpopulation and pollution. The
city, as described below, is an ideal city that this world needs to last.
To attain maximum efficiency and sustainability in the city, measure will be taken to ensure a long life
for the city. Implementing a high levy on all petrol and diesel vehicles and lower ones on hybrid
vehicles will retain the clean air of the city. Purchasing a full electric vehicle will see a 50% incentive
to the buyer. There will be more than enough infrastructure to house the electric vehicles booming
industry, including Continental s All New inroad wireless EV charging for charging while parked and
emergency chargers placed around rural roads in cases of empty batteries. Infrastructure to
accommodate Tesla s Supercharging Network for long range travel will be placed to boost people
taking the eco friendly option. There will be a Hyperloop in the ground to transport people throughout
the city and to and from other cities. Power will come from eco friendly sources such as wind turbines
upon a hill and solar energy plants upon the fields. There will also be a large dam that the houses

Serialism Essay
Definition:
Serialism is a rigorous system of composing music in which various elements of the piece are ordered
according to a pre determined ordered set or sets, and variations on them. The elements thus controlled
may be the pitch of the notes, their length, their dynamics, their accents, or virtually any other musical
quantity, which, in serial terms is called a parameter. More generally, serialism is any music which
uses any ordered sets applied to any musical element.
Whilst researching serialism I came across a quote which I find very relevant to our studies at the
moment. The quote reads: Serial music is like spinach. People grow up hearing others complain about
how terrible it is. Some people eventually try it and agree that ... Show more content on

When a tone row is turned backwards, its rhythmic pattern is also reversed. For example, a minum
followed by a quaver followed by a semi quaver becomes a semi quaver followed by a quaver
followed by a minum. It is in this way that every conceivable musical element is manipulated.
Although this music is very organized it is often, ironically, perceived to be very chaotic to the
listener.

Serialism was greatly influential in post War music. Serialism was revolutionary and declared itself as
a new tonality . Serialism created an environment where experimentation with sound was at the
forefront of composition, which led to increased use of electronics as well as other applications of
mathematical notation to composition.

know a guru to achieve enlightenment. You don t even have to meditate! All you have to do is
consciously dissect yourself, and your world, without colouring what you see. Then each time you

Why Henry Ought To Rule
While reading Shakespeare s Richard II, one may wonder who ought to rule England: Richard II or

explain the role of a king, objections to Henry s rule, and why Henry ought to rule. To decide who
ought to rule England one must understand the role of a king. The role of a king according to St.
Thomas Aquinas is to aim for the people s happiness and well being. In Shakespeare s Richard II,
John of Gaunt says this: God s is the quarrel; for God s substitute, His deputy anointed in His sight,
Hath caused his death: the which if wrongfully, Let heaven revenge; for I may never lift an angry arm

popular belief. Some objections to Henry Bolingbroke as king may be that he took over the throne, did

Henry as a person is more mature, practical, and readier to rule than his cousin, Richard II. To remove

support of the peoples Henry did not take over the throne. If the people had actually approved of the

Aristotle s Rhetorical Rhetoric On The Human Soul
Aristotle s Rhetorical Rhetoric Aristotle, a famous philosopher, is one of the most renowned Greek
scholars, and was an influential force in ancient Greece and in modern society. He was the head of the
Macedon royal academy, where he taught Alexander the Great, his most famous pupil. He founded the
famous Lyceum in Athens later in his life, which is portrayed in Raphael s painting School of Athens.
Aristotle is known for his interest in nature and science, and his emphasis on empirical evidence to
prove his points has become the keystone of modern scientific research. As a result, one of the topics
he studied is the cause of human difference. He discusses in Book I of his series Politics the nature of

Such an egotistical belief is expressed when Aristotle describes how the soul rules the body with a
despotical rule, whereas the intellect rules the appetites with a constitutional and royal rule (Aristotle,
5). By drawing a relationship between the intellect and fair rule, Aristotle appeals to the Greeks: if
their form of government is truly the best, then Aristotle s vision of the model citizen must be as well.
Similarly, Aristotle s descriptions of the superiority and inferiority of certain groups are also
dependent on his familiarity with each group. Since Plato s Academy, which preached an elitist
philosophy (Welch, Marshall and Billig, 10), was mostly male (Reeve), Aristotle ranks males over
females, fathers over mothers, and husbands over wives. Similarly, Aristotle places masters over
slaves as he was a free citizen living among other free citizens; by corollary of such an authority based
dynamic, he also ranks natural rulers above subjects. Finally, as Aristotle had only lived in Greece
before Politics was published, he had no personal exposure to the barbarian Persians, and thus stated
that Hellenes, a term describing all Greeks unified together, were superior to the Persians
(Biography.com). These explanations are not grounded in any sort of empirical evidence; rather,
Aristotle classifies groups statuses

Gender Stereotypes And Expectations In Literature
Everyone knows that boys only want one thing, and girls, above all else, must protect their virtue.
Society, through such means as literature, popular culture, and tradition, has perpetuated these gender
stereotypes and expectations for much of history. Unconscious and conscious assumptions about
gender shape how readers perceive sex in literature; men are typically considered lustful, whereas
women are considered loving. However, the subjects of sex, love, and lust in literature, as
demonstrated in poems written by Robert Burns and Andrew Marvell, become increasingly nuanced
when gender stereotypes and expectations are questioned and removed. Gender roles, expectations,

He says that the youthful hue / sits on [her] skin like morning dew, but that this fresh beauty will soon
fade (Marvell 584; 33 34).
The description of this woman supports stereotypes of both genders. The man is lustful, and his tactic
is to appeal to the woman s shallow vanity. He appeals to her desire for love by almost offhandedly
tacking on how he would like to know her heart (Marvell 583; 18). Additionally, he says that, should
they act upon his lustful desires, they would be like amorous birds of prey (Marvell 584; 38). The
contradictory image of loving raptors enforces the stereotype of a predatory man spouting any lovely
lie to get a woman in his bed. A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns is not as overtly sexual as To His Coy
Mistress. However, Burns was notoriously promiscuous, and his subject matter was often of a sexual
nature. It is safe to say that his purpose in this poem was a sexual purpose. He says his luve s like a

song being sweetly played in tune (Burns 935; 1 2). He uses this flowery language to appeal to women
s stereotypical love for beauty and emotion. He additionally appeals to an overemotional woman by
using hyperbolic language to describe his love. He claims that he will love this woman until all the

doors with the press of a finger from the outside itself rather than creating a personal identification
number (PIN). Such a feature is especially helpful for families with children who may forget a code.

Discovery of HeLa Cells
It is safe to say that without the discovery of HeLa cells in 1951, today s world would be vastly
different. HeLa cells have left a greater mark on the world than ever dreamed possible. These
immortal cells were vital to the development of the polio vaccine, cloning, uncovering microscopic
secrets of viruses and cancer, in vitro fertilization and gene mapping. They have been everywhere:
labs, animals, people, even the moon. They assisted with the development of the atom bomb and were
sent into space, being used to study the effects of these unknown environments on human cells. HeLa
cells have touched the lives of everyone, yet the majority of people have never heard the name
Henrietta Lacks, the woman from which these cells were removed. In The Immortal life of Henrietta
Lacks, the author Rebecca Skloot escorts us on a remarkable journey through her quest to uncover
Henrietta s life story. Henrietta Lacks was a poor tobacco farmer Clover, Virginia, working the land
just as her slave ancestors did and struggling to keep her children fed and safe. After moving to East
Baltimore in hopes of a better life, marriage struggles with her husband and cousin David Day, and
four children, she began to have extensive pain in her abdomen, as she described, A knot in my womb.
This pain arrived shortly after the birth of her daughter Deborah, and she thought it had something to

After the opening ceremony, the athletes stripped down and drew lots to decide where their starting
positions would be or who their combat opponents (Faulkner 197). They would do this stark naked to
show their build and strength to other opponents (Faulkner 198). The rest of the day is spent watching
the boy or otherwise called the youth games that consisted of twelve to eighteen years olds competing
in the short sprint, wrestling, and boxing (Faulkner 199). On the beginning of the second day there is
another procession, called the Equestrian Procession, that starts at the Olympic Flame and ending at
the Hippodrome (Faulkner 200). Along the way, they pay homage to about sixty three altars (Faulkner
200). The procession includes the judges, the priests of Zeus and all of the charioteers, jockeys,
horses, trainers, etc. (Faulkner 200). The day begins with the four horse chariot race, which was
introduced in 680 B.C. and was seventy two stadia (43,200 ft.) long (Faulkner 201). After that was the
horseback racing which was six stadia (3,600 ft.) and was added in 648 B.C. (Faulkner 206). The
horseback riders competed naked, rode with no stirrups or saddle, and were normally slaves (Faulkner

The Technological Changes Has Become Astronomical
Growing Up Four generations will be discussed starting with information on the technological
changes which has become astronomical. My grandparents saw a lot of inventions that paved the way
for the younger generation. Things that were coming to be, kind of took a stand still at least for me.
But my father and mothers parents were amazed at how things had transpired like indoor plumbing,
automobiles, and the television. When growing up indoor plumbing was not installed in my
grandparents house, but the outhouse was hidden from view. It was also kept clean with new paint,
now and then, and always a tissue roll or two. Ours was not only a sight, but could be seen from the
road, and we would try to sneak out when it was needed to be used. We did not want our friends on the
bus to catch us running to and fro, and guess that we did not have an indoor bathroom like other
homes. Couple of dad s sisters never learned to drive, but the youngest one sported the very latest year
model, and worked outside the home, as a school teacher. Women in the work field, but men still took
the lead, and that would be the day not to mention a sight to see, a woman pumping gas, but that day
happened for me. We were the opposite of dads sisters on the perils of driving, (well with the
exception of two sisters that were scared to death too) the sooner we learned to drive, the sooner we
could escape the hell that was our life. But now things have changed as our generation gave birth, we

The Portrayal of Ophelia on Stage Over the Years
Portrayal Mary Catherine Bolton (afterwards Lady Thurlow) (1790 1830) as Ophelia in 1813,
opposite John Philip Kemble s Hamlet While it is known that Richard Burbage played Hamlet in
Shakespeare s time, there is no evidence of who played Ophelia; since there were no professional
actresses on the public stage in Elizabethan England, we may be certain that she was played by a boy.
[11] The early modern stage in England had an established set of emblematic conventions for the
representation of female madness: dishevelled hair worn down, dressed in white, bedecked with wild
flowers, Ophelia s state of mind would have been immediately readable to her first audiences.[12]

Dorothy Foster played Ophelia opposite Charles Raymond s Hamlet in the 1912 film Hamlet. Jean
Simmons played Ophelia opposite Laurence Olivier s Oscar winning Hamlet performance in 1948;
Simmons was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. More recently,
Ophelia has been portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter (1990), Kate Winslet (1996), Julia Stiles (2000)
and Gugu Mbatha Raw (2009). Themes associated with Ophelia have led to movies such as Ophelia
Learns to Swim(2000), and Dying Like Ophelia (2002).[20] In many theatre and film adaptations she
is portrayed barefoot in the mad scenes, including Kozintsev s 1964 version, Zeffirelli s 1990 film,
1996 and2000 versions. Psychologist Mary Pipher attributed the name of her 1994 book Reviving
Ophelia to Shakespeare s Ophelia. In her book, Pipher examines the troubled lives of the modern
American adolescent girls. Through her extensive clinical work with troubled young women, Pipher
takes a closer look at the competing influences that lead adolescent girls in a negative direction. For
example, Pipher attributes the competing pressure from parents, peers, and the media for girls to reach
an unachievable ideal. Girls are expected to meet goals while still holding on to their sanity. These
pressures are further complicated when young women undergo physical changes out of their control,
like the biological developmental changes in puberty. Shakespeare s Ophelia

Advantages Of Swarm Robotics
Advances in Swarm Robotics and the Stability of a Swarm
INTRODUCTION
Swarm robotics is the new approach to the coordination of multi robot systems that consists of many
relatively smaller robots. The inspiration of this is the social behaviour of many animals and insects
like ants, geese etc. the terms Swarm Intelligence refers to the collective behaviour that is the outcome
of the work of the smaller individuals, each acting autonomously. Swarm intelligence is a property of
systems of non intelligent exhibiting a collectively intelligent behaviour.
Since the 1980 s, swarm robotics has become a major area of research. As new solution approaches
are being developed and validated, it is often possible to realize the advantages of swarm robotic
systems.
In a paper by Dudek et al in 1993, the research on swarm robotics was classified into five areas which
are swarm size, communication range, communication topology, communication bandwidth, swarm re
configurability and swarm unit processing ability. In another paper by Cao et al, the survey of
cooperative robotics was presented in a hierarchical way. This publication was also split onto five
main parts: group architecture, resource conflicts, origins of cooperation, learning and geometric
problems.
In a paper by Hiroshi et al the stability of a swarm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social insects have the best examples of the best self organized behaviour. For example, ants and bees
are not as powerful alone as they are with their colony or hive respectively. By means of local and
limited communication, they are able to accomplish impressive behavioural feats: maintaining the
health of the colony, caring for their young, responding to invasion and so on. Ants leave a chemical
substance, pheromone, behind to help guide other ants at a later point in time. Thomas et al were
inspired from ants and they made a swarm which would search, retrieve, return, deposit and rest an

Team Definition Essay
Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society
work, a civilization work ( Team Quotes ). This quote is from the famous football coach Vince
Lombardi, and it doesn t matter whether you re a Green Bay Packer fan or a Chicago Bear fan.
Everyone has to agree that Vince Lombardi knew about what it takes to be on a a team. Oxford s
Online Dictionary defines the word team as, a group of people who compete in a sport, game, etc.,
against another group ( Team Definition ). While this definition and Lombardi s definition are
accurate, in my opinion, they are not complete. A team is so much more than a collection of people

A team isn t just a group of people united in a common goal as Vince Lombardi stated. Just like a
family, a team learns and grows together. Winning or losing isn t as important as growing and
improving. My father always says that in tennis you can learn more from your losses than your
victories. This is true for life too. When your in a family, you learn so much from each other s failures.
You learn what to do and what not to do. You also learn how to be there for each other when times get
tough. This unites you as a family and brings you closer together. The same thing happens on a team.
When I was younger, I swam for the Marlins Swim team. We practiced twice a day in the summer, and
it was exhausting. Our coaches pushed us hard to get us ready for the Conference Meet against our
biggest rivals, the Normal Parks and Rec Sharks and the team from Rob Knight. We all wanted to win
so badly that we were willing to give up most of our summer break to do laps in the pool at 6:00am.
One of the boys on our team had special needs, but he practiced hard just like anybody else. When it
came time for the Conference Meet, our head coach called a meeting and told us that he was putting
this boy in several of the relays because the boy going to have surgery at the end of summer and
wouldn t be able to swim again for a long time. I think our coach expected us to to argue or be

American Sign Language II
Seeing Voices
By Oliver Sacks
Seeing Voices is a profound novel that was written by famous neurologist, Oliver Sacks in 1989.
Seeing Voices is a book that delves into the history of Sign Language and expresses a genuine
meaning behind what language truly is. Oliver Sacks is an engaging and fascinating writer. Being able
to explore outside what he is used to, he can expand his knowledge about language. Being
knowledgeable on psychiatry can help him get a better understanding of cognitive ability in the deaf
community and the importance of why keeping Sign Language away from Deaf children is not
beneficial for them in the hearing world. Like many of his books, ... Show more content on

The language of the Deaf is usually consistent with the environment the language is being spoken in.
For example, the signs that one can encounter in British Sign Language can be different than signs
that are seen in American Sign Language. Although Sign Language itself is very universal, the specific
patterns and methods of speaking that are associated with each kind of Deaf Community can be
drastically different.
Sacks himself was not deaf, but it was an exciting experience for him to dive into a community he was
not familiar with. The second part of the book, Sacks goes into detail about the importance of Sign
Language itself and discusses the situation in which he meets a young Deaf boy named Joseph. When
reading this book, I completely understood and agreed with Sacks when he stated that deaf children
must learn a language at a young age to be successful. With that being said, Oliver Saks researched
American Sign Language, and as a result, he ultimately decided that the Critical Period Hypothesis is
extremely important when discussing the Deaf community. This theory states that there is a critical
age at which people should learn a language, or they will forever be unable to express themselves with
little to no education in language. Sacks show that by keeping Sign Language away from Deaf
children is ultimately hurting them rather than helping. Forcing deaf children at a young age to speak
and not use Sign Language as their first language is

Personal Narrative-Winning The Battle In Rocky Top...
Working hard and achieving his goals is one of the most fulfilling and life changing experiences and
young man can go through. The lessons someone can learn from achieving something as a child will
most likely carry over to adulthood and allow someone to do something that they never thought was
possible. When my seventh grade football team and I won our third national championship, I learned
extremely valuable lessons: to get back up when you fall, to work hard for what you want, and how to
work as a team with others. From the beginning of the season, we knew our goal winning the Battle in
Rocky Top national championship football game in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We had won both years

of feeling you get when you know you are well prepared for something, but you inexplicably still feel
nervous. As soon as the ball was kicked first, all of the anxious feelings I had melted away and the
game became quite fun. Just as the prior years, the first game had the easiest opponent to beat and my
team and I had no problem securing a victory against them. The second game was a bit more of a
challenge, but defeating that team was nothing we were not prepared for. The true challenge came in
the third and championship game. Although we enjoyed a bye game due to our two previous victories,
the other team had the advantage of some truly God gifted athletes. In particular, number seven was a
beast of a thirteen year old. He stood at an impressive six feet tall and he towered over us on every
snap. During the first drive, we had marched the ball down the field slowly but surely and on the four
yard line we fumbled. Of course, number seven picked up the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. At
halftime, our coach sat us down and had a long talk with us. Even though we were discouraged by
their touchdown, we picked ourselves up and started scoring. We scored two rushing touchdowns in
the third quarter and one more in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Not only did we come back

What was the Women’s Suffrage Movement, and How did it...
Suffrage: the right to vote in political elections. The men in America have always had the right to vote.
They have always had the right to do whatever they wanted. Women, on the other hand, have not.
They haven t always been allowed to vote. 1920 marked a significant landmark in American history.
Women in all parts of the country voted in a political election for the first time. This may not sound
like that big of a deal, but to the women of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the 1800s, women were not
allowed to have a say in what was perceived to be a man s world. They were expected to be mothers
and housewives. Nothing more, nothing less. Women tried to get legislation to pass a reform, but they
refused to listen. Because of this, they felt they needed to gain the right to vote. Seneca Falls, NY in
1848 marked the start of the women s suffrage movement. The movement, being led by many
influential women, such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, was said to be one of the
largest political movement of the 20th century. According to the National Women s History Museum,
the movement was the ...single largest enfranchisement and extension of democratic rights in our
nation s history ( Rights for Women: The Suffrage ). The advocacy for women s suffrage quieted
down during the Civil War, but was brought back to life with the proposal of the 15th amendment,
which would give black men the right to vote. When women s suffrage was brought back to the

to monitor and adjust development as needed for all stakeholders including parents.
Starting this plan during the scheduled professional development days in August 2016, we will be
celebrating greater student success and a very harmonious school environment at The Academy of
Diverse Thinkers.
Future Research
Progress monitoring will occur during the course work, as well as individual surveys tracking each
leader s opinions of both the delivery method and the training itself. After the course work is
completed, anonymous surveys will be used to explore the efficacy of the development. Further
professional development will be created as the changes in our society s methods and skills in
communication evolve. It should be noted that due to the differences and variety of human learning
styles, multiple modalities must be used from this point forward in regards to any training,
communication, or dissemination of information.
Conclusion
The comprehensive communications enhancement program will cost the entirety of the budget already
set aside for professional development, however the return on investment will be multi faceted and
priceless: (1) the learning environment will improve greatly along with, (2) student success, (3) re
enrollment, and (4) teacher

Environmental Characteristics of Net Zero
Weekly assignment Topic: Environmental characteristics of Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) 1000
words research essay
A net zero energy building has a system to immensely reduce the total energy of a building by
implementing energy efficient technologies which gives counterbalance to the functional energy needs
supportive with renewable energy thus reducing the total energy consumption to roughly zero. Zero
energy buildings have certain characteristics, such as effective thermal insulation, using renewable
energy and using important passive strategies and energy control systems. (P.Torcellini.2006)
The first character to highlight is effective thermal insulation, which depicts the glass walls, walls
windows, doors and roofing systems fully reinforced with low emissivity and solar control strategies.
And the adaptation of insulation methods in terms. This comprises of various insulation properties in
different weathers reducing cooling and/or heating loads (J.Eshraghi et al.2014). One of the systems
accounted for effective building insulation is the closed cell spray polyurethane foam (ccSPF) which
is used to spray on walls and roofing systems to achieve control of building temperature and indoor
thermal comfort (Building Science.2014). Therefore, effective thermal insulators acts as air barriers
and provide more controllable environments. Furthermore reduces the building s energy consumption
and energy loss. In addition it also which reduces moisture intrusion hence

Political Cartoon Essay
A political cartoon explains an event or the effects of an event either in an humorous way or an serious
but exaggerated way. The cartoonist can exaggerate a specific feature of an person or an event like the
artist may make the ears of Obama s extremely large because of how they feel about him listening to
the issues but never doing anything about it. Or they make the statue of a famous civil movements
leaders unfinished because they feel that their job is unfinished. The political cartoons are here to
catch the attention of the public in a humorous way other than a serious way.
Dave Granlund mostly draws cartoons based on the current event and past major current events. His
drawings have been published in the daily newspaper since 1977 and in the weeklies sinces the sixties.
He has been aired on national tv news broadcasters like Fox News.com, MSNBC.com, HBO, PBS,
NPR, ABC News, CNN and NBC s Today Show. Dave started drawing cartoons since he was sixteen
for his school s newspaper.
The cartoon that I chose demonstrates how Martin s work was left unfinished and it is still unfinished
to this day. The reasoning behind that in particular is because Dr. King had a dream that every person
in the US would be treated equally and not cast out from society because of their skin color or race.
But instead, in today s world, everything happening is the complete opposite from what he dreamt of.

  • 2. Being A Man In The Wonderer And Beowulf Allica Cardona Dr. Scaggs English 2322.102 25 September 2017 To Be or Not To Be .. a Man Being a man during the medieval period meant a lot more than being a man in the twenty first century. There were certain expectations, and above all, different aspects when it came down to what being a man was. Some things that are very evident are kinship, brotherhood, male to male relationships, and bonding. While reading The Wonderer and Beowulf, it is very easy to pick out spots where these different aspects are shown. So, how exactly do we know how these acts are being portrayed? While reading Beowulf, right off the back the reader can get a sense of what being a man means. There is a bond of unity from the very beginning. Brotherhood and kinship go hand in hand because even though Beowulf did not need any help from the men who traveled with him, they all stood by him and were there for moral support. The relationships between men seemed like they were a lot more important, than those with women. Not only are women rarely mentioned during this time, but when they were, they were often portrayed as damsels in distress. This is where kinship and brotherhood go hand in hand. Just because these men were not of the same bloodline, that did not make them any less of a family. There was always constant support, especially for Beowulf, and no one ever really went against each other. The bonding between men can be seen in two different ways in Beowulf. One way it can be seen is the fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of The Autobiography Of An Ex-Colored Man In The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man written by James Weldon Johnson, the theme that builds up throughout the novel is identity is shaped by many different aspects, and, at times, it can be hard to find. The main character, James Weldon Johnson, goes through multiple different aspects of society with hardships and difficulties while he is finding who he is. In order to find his identity, James finds out that he is a black man; he encounters many hardships; wonders if his passion is with music; and, in the end, comes to identify himself as a white man. Growing up Johnson is known by all, except his mother, that he is a white man. He is treated as a white individual with white privileges. This doesn t really change until his second term of his first year in school. The principal comes to talk to the students. When he requests this, he asks for all white students to stand up. James stands, but his teacher says you sit down for the present, and rise with the others (James Weldon Johnson 11). James, not understanding why, sits down with the other black children. After school, James runs home and into his mother s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it specifically shows the consent struggle everyone faces finding one s identity in a society. It shows the difficulty everyone has while finding his or her own identity. It shows a true, vivid picture of a man fighting for his own identity and of his childrens through the hardships and success life brings him. It s hard for some people to find themselves, and it s easier for others. James Johnson is a good example of this. In order to find his identity his mother dies, he moves to countless different places, and meets thousands of different faces. Yet he doesn t find who he is until his children are born and his wife ends up dying. • 4. My Thoughts About Worldviews Essay A worldview, in my opinion, is the way you look at the world and how you see God; a worldview is a set of beliefs that directs the way you act. To determine your worldview, you must ask yourself a few questions. Some of these questions include: Who is God? Where did I come from? Why do I exist? What is my purpose in life? Answers in Genesis defines a worldview as the overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world. A worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group. [1] To make this definition easier to understand, I ll use an analogy. A worldview is like a pair of glasses. If you get the right prescription, you ll be able to see really clearly. If you get the wrong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believe that Allah is god and that Muhammad is his messenger. They do not think Allah is a knowable god and they do not believe in the Trinity. They do not believe in heaven but they believe in a paradise and to go there you must do a certain amount of good deeds. Also, Muslims must complete some tasks, often called pillars. These pillars include: confession, prayer, fasting, almsgiving, pilgrimage, and in some cases, jihad. Like Christians, Muslims have a book of scripture, called the Qur an, written by Muhammad. Islam philosophy also believes in the supernatural because of Allah. Muslim philosophers, and some Christian philosophers, use the Kalam Cosmological Argument for the existence of God. Although Muslims do believe in miracles, Muhammad never performed any. This created some doubts but they still had faith in Muhammad. Some great Islamic philosophers are Ahmad and Yusif Ali Hammuda Abdalat. Like Christians, Muslims believe in moral absolutes. However, these absolutes come from Muhammad and the Qur an (or Hadith), rather than Allah, because Muslims believe that Allah cannot be known. To help Muslims follow moral obligations, they follow the Five Pillars. Unlike Christians, Muslims are motivated to do good because of their fear of judgement. Another similarity with Christians and Muslims is the belief that a god created the earth with order, design, and purpose. Sometimes, there can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Strategic Challenges For Local Communities Strategic Challenges for Local Communities The Department of Homeland Security released the 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review on June 18, 2014 as required by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and its amendments. This review outlined the current state of preparedness, as well as the future areas of concentration. It also determined six strategic challenges facing the nation: terrorist threat; growing cyber threats; biological concerns as a whole; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations; and natural hazards. The basic building block of emergency management in the U.S. is the local community. Each step begins here. Threat assessments are completed on the local level. Planning, mitigation, and response are all responsibilities of the local community to support the state and Federal practice using the guidance provided by both. One of the best guidance documents for these communities is the Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 201 (CPG201). In this guide, communities will complete the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment. The THIRA has a detailed four step process in developing a robust Risk Assessment to allow the community to develop its plans. The first step is to identify the threats and hazards of concern to the community. Some of the challenges described by the Department of Homeland Security may not be applicable to the community or may pose extremely limited threat. The second step in to give the threats context which states how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Character Analysis Of Bushberry s Bushwick Bushwick, directed by Johnathan Milott and Cary Murnion, is a frantic storyline of cat and mouse and becomes obnoxious the more you watch. The storyline premises more excitement than is displayed, and the characters fail the glue this story together. A college student named Lucy (Brittany Snow) comes back to her hometown in Brooklyn on a subway, when she walks into a civil war outbreak within the streets of Brooklyn s Bushwick neighborhood. The state of Texas is abiding by the government operations and militia forces have been sent to destroy and wreak havoc in the streets of Brooklyn, so that they can claim this territory as their East Coast base. Lucy then becomes acquainted with a burly war veteran, Stupe (Dave Bautista), who helps her travel across the city into safety. The intense escape extends for a treacherous five block course and becomes bloodshed after each block. Lucy and Stupe must depend on each other to survive the militia forces. Brittany Snow and Dave Bautista do a great job showing their emotion throughout the film, yet it might have been too much. This film was directed poorly, after every ten to fifteen minutes, the characters would cry hysterically, even while the war is going right outside the door. This made it difficult to watch, because the characters would stop to talk about their personal lives, yet their major priority should be getting to safety. This was one of the major faults throughout this film. Brittany Snow is an incredible actress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Detection or Identification of Trace Amounts of Explosives The detection and/or identification of trace amounts of explosives. The review of each method should include a description of the way the method works and the advantages and drawbacks of the technique. Introduction An explosive, are reactive substances that contain a large amount of potential energy that can yield an explosion if they are released rapidly, they are accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound, and pressure. Mainly used in the mining industry for extraction of minerals and resources, explosives have been used as a weapon of destruction. Explosives often contain oxidising substances such as nitrates chlorates, and a binding agent such as ammonium and potassium, which can be detected and analysed to prevent such substances from being used as a weapon. Explosives detection is critically important in many field settings (e.g., military facilities, minefields, crime scenes, and remediation sites) and has become a necessity for the safety of the general public (e.g., at airports and mass transit areas), there remains a demand for inexpensive and reliable explosive instruments for identifying specific explosives. High explosives are considered to be organic and oxidizing, a relatively uncommon mixture that makes them tractable for molecular recognition. On 22 December 2001 Richard Colvin Reid also known as the Shoe Bomber attempted to detonate explosives packed into the shoes he was wearing, while on American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami. ... • 8. T Cell Polarization The classical view of Th1/Th2 paradigm argues that T cell polarization is determined by the nature of the pathogen and their infectious cycle. Therefore Th1 response is triggered by intracellular pathogen while Th2 response is triggered by helminth infections. Although microbes and local microbial environment does affect T cell differentiation into Th1 or Th2, this is not the entire story. In this essay, I will explain how the host can determine T cell polarization. Hormonal factors as well as the nature of antigen presenting cells have an effect in preferential T cell differentiation. This process is especially important during pregnancy where the fetus may be seen as foreign to the immune system and therefore promoting secretion of pro inflammatory cytokine by Th1 response resulting in abortion (2). This is further supported by the experiments that injection of IFN γ (3) and IL 2 (4) into pregnant mice can lead abortion and preterm labour. Therefore secretion of estrogen and progestin from the placenta is responsible to immunotolerance of the fetus during pregnancy. As well, in a study where C57BL/6 mice were infected with Leishmania major, pregnant C57BL/6 mice mounted a Th2 response as opposed to the Th1 response mounted by control mice demonstrating that during pregnancy, Th2 response is predominant (5). Huber et al. (6) demonstrated that when infected with coxsackievirus B3, male BALB/c mice had higher serum IgG2a as well elevated levels of IFN γ and IL 2. At the same time, female BALB/c mice infected with the same virus had higher IgG1 and IL 4, suggesting that male BALB/c mice had a predominately Th1 response whereas female BALB/c mice had a predominately Th2 response. However, like any job situation there are many disadvantages to home employment that may become apparent over time. For some, this can mean making a few adjustments to make the situation more tolerable. For others, the disadvantages can be so powerful that they can put an end to the home office (Provenzano). As technology, apps and costs bring people to conclude that working from home would be the best situation, it s very important to consider the disadvantages of working from home, as these are often forgotten. These negative aspects can actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is that by working from home, you tend to take yourself out of the running for promotions and work rewards (Turcotte). You will also find that in many cases, the job that you would be promoted into can t be done from home so you simply won t be considered for it. This is a non issue if you are content staying in the same position for the duration of your career. If, however, you plan on getting ahead and moving up in your career field, then working from home could be a problem (Turcotte). Home employment is sometimes not taken seriously by prospective employers, and it can be viewed as a gap in the resume (Provenzano). One of the main reasons people tend to work onsite is because they love doing it with the goal of getting promoted, so they can climb the corporate ladder. If you are a freelancer or if you work from home, you might lose sight of these opportunities (Wall). If you do freelance work, that means you are more of an independent contractor than a regular employee. Sometimes people with home employment are often looked at as if they don t do real work (Park). A large majority of the people working at home do not really feel like professionals despite the size of the work load or opportunities. The main factor here is that, when you re at home, you feel at home and you may be less motivated to perform the same as you would in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sex, Sexual, And Sexual Sexuality Essay Secrets Desires Our society has socially excepted explicit language as well as sexual undertones as a way of introducing sex and pornography to our young people and mature adults alike. There are hidden secret sexual desires simply because we are taught that if our sexual thoughts or desires are different from others we are strange. Women were taught that they are damaged if they are to engage in watching pornography or engage in altered sexual desires that are outside of the vanilla spectrum. According to Concepcion, C. M. (1999) To deny any women any form of sexual expression, including the enjoyment and production of pornography can stunt sexual development and thereby, stunt the development of our sexuality, forces women to question our intuition and police our desires . Men and Women are being sexually inhabitied by the expression of engaging in sexual content such as pornography by not being able to explore their needs under those circumstances they aren t able to explore their needs, desires, and sexual needs. The issue might form when women began to think of sexual freedom as a choice to please partners just to grab satisfaction of something missing from their lives, allowing them to long for a touch within a conscious and unconscious state of mind. Some would argue that the behavior would be the result of a missing father or a mother who didn t respond with proper maternal instinct a child might have needed. • 12. Serialism Essay Definition: Serialism is a rigorous system of composing music in which various elements of the piece are ordered according to a pre determined ordered set or sets, and variations on them. The elements thus controlled may be the pitch of the notes, their length, their dynamics, their accents, or virtually any other musical quantity, which, in serial terms is called a parameter. More generally, serialism is any music which uses any ordered sets applied to any musical element. Whilst researching serialism I came across a quote which I find very relevant to our studies at the moment. The quote reads: Serial music is like spinach. Why Henry Ought To Rule While reading Shakespeare s Richard II, one may wonder who ought to rule England: Richard II or Henry Bolingbroke. The person who ought to rule England is Henry Bolingbroke. This essay will explain the role of a king, objections to Henry s rule, and why Henry ought to rule. To decide who ought to rule England one must understand the role of a king. He founded the famous Lyceum in Athens later in his life, which is portrayed in Raphael s painting School of Athens. Aristotle is known for his interest in nature and science, and his emphasis on empirical evidence to prove his points has become the keystone of modern scientific research. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such an egotistical belief is expressed when Aristotle describes how the soul rules the body with a despotical rule, whereas the intellect rules the appetites with a constitutional and royal rule (Aristotle, 5). By drawing a relationship between the intellect and fair rule, Aristotle appeals to the Greeks: if their form of government is truly the best, then Aristotle s vision of the model citizen must be as well. Similarly, Aristotle s descriptions of the superiority and inferiority of certain groups are also dependent on his familiarity with each group. Since Plato s Academy, which preached an elitist philosophy (Welch, Marshall and Billig, 10), was mostly male (Reeve), Aristotle ranks males over females, fathers over mothers, and husbands over wives. Similarly, Aristotle places masters over slaves as he was a free citizen living among other free citizens; by corollary of such an authority based dynamic, he also ranks natural rulers above subjects. Finally, as Aristotle had only lived in Greece before Politics was published, he had no personal exposure to the barbarian Persians, and thus stated that Hellenes, a term describing all Greeks unified together, were superior to the Persians (Biography.com). Unconscious and conscious assumptions about gender shape how readers perceive sex in literature; men are typically considered lustful, whereas women are considered loving. He appeals to her desire for love by almost offhandedly tacking on how he would like to know her heart (Marvell 583; 18). Additionally, he says that, should they act upon his lustful desires, they would be like amorous birds of prey (Marvell 584; 38). The contradictory image of loving raptors enforces the stereotype of a predatory man spouting any lovely lie to get a woman in his bed. A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns is not as overtly sexual as To His Coy Mistress. However, Burns was notoriously promiscuous, and his subject matter was often of a sexual nature. It is safe to say that his purpose in this poem was a sexual purpose. He says his luve s like a red, red rose / that s newly sprung in June (Burns 935; 1 2).
