Philippine Immigration in the USA after 1990 Essay
The U.S. colonized the Philippines between 1900 and 1934. This had a significant impact on the mass
immigration of the Filipinos. The Filipino immigrants were then made U.S. nationals and granted the
opportunity of settling in the U.S. and protected by its law and constitution. The increase in demand
for labor in California farmlands and Hawaiian plantation led to a surge of Filipino immigrants
seeking these jobs (Abraham 14). They mostly came from the provinces of Cebu and Ilocos. The
demand for labor in these farms was attributed to the exit of the Japanese work force from the
plantations. The immigrants from Philippines mostly comprised of a subgroup known as Sakadas, who
entered Hawaii as U.S. nationals. However, they did not enjoy ... Show more content on

About 3 million undocumented immigrants applied for amnesty out of which 2.7 were legalized under
the amnesty program (Martin 17). After enactment of this IRCA act, there were adjustments and
modification made on it by Congress with regards to the numerical limit and preference system. This
saw Congress table a bill in the house that was later signed by President Bush in 1990 and currently
known as the Immigration act of 1990. This Act laid emphasis on increasing the numerical limit of
immigrants, revise the preference system, introduce diversity program and give a higher priority to
employment based immigration. This law introduced an annual level of 675,000 immigrants per year
in 1995 that included 480,000 for family related, 140,000 for employment based and 55, 000 for
diversity immigrants.
The Diversity Lottery Program has facilitated the admission of 50,000 immigrants from countries that
have a low number of immigrants in the last five years. The attorney general is the person who
determines the number of visas to be issued and to which countries on the basis of information which
they have gathered over the last five years. However, the act gave priority to employment based
immigration that rose from 54,000 visas to 140,000 annually. The 140,000 visas are divided among
three groups that each receives 40,000 and two that receive 10,000 each.

Animals
In total, fifty two newly weaned Long Evans (Rattus Norvegicus) were ordered from Harlan Industries
(Indianapolis, IN, USA). Only twenty four of these animals were used for this study. The rats were
pair housed according to coping profile in cages, 48 cm x 26 cm x 21 cm. The cages were set up with
corncob bedding, food (Harlan rodent chow), and water available ad libitum. They were kept under
standard housing conditions with a 12 hour light/dark cycle. Animals were maintained in strict
accordance with the Randolph Macon College Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Coping Assessment The rats, at twenty seven days of age, were categorized into one of three coping
profiles: passive, active or flexible. The rats were assessed using the back test (Hawley et al. 2010) in

mass of food in container, rearing, grooming freezing, number of fecal boli pellets, and how long they
took to eat once they returned to their home cage. The rat was removed from the apparatus at the end
of the 15 minute trial, and was returned to its home cage. We observed the rats in their home cage until

Exploring Creative Potential And Their Relationship With...
One study used a measurement of interviewing the parent and child, along with different
questionnaires, to analyze creative potential and its relationship with having an imaginary companion,
if there were any gender differences, and whether children would be more likely to have a negative
self image. M. Taylor interviewed both children and their parents and demonstrated that the parents of
younger children seemed more aware of their child having an imaginary companion, while only 20%
of parents with children aged 6 to 7 knew, supporting study by Hurlock (1932). As cited in
Manosevitz, a study done by Schmechel found direct questioning of the child about their imaginary
companions had a higher occurrence (50%) compared to parental report (31%) (Manosevitz, 1977).
Further suggesting that parental report alone is not affective in measurement of the presence of
imaginary companions. In addition to the interview multiple questionnaires including the Activity
Questionnaire, Creative Functioning Test, the Unusual Uses test, Self Image Inventory, and a
questionnaire about imaginary companions were administered. Results found that having an imaginary
companion was related to two out of three estimates of creative potential, contrary to Manosevitz
findings, and having an imaginary companion was correlated with a lower self image (Hoff, 2005).
Although having an imaginary companion was associated with a lower self image, that self image is

Monteverdi As An Epic Poem Analysis
Composing an opera seems like a daunting task, now imagine trying to take an Epic Poem and make it
into an opera, it seems almost like an ultimate challenge; a challenge only few would take on. One of
the most famous composers who took on this challenge was Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi
famously known only as Monteverdi, was one of the greatest composers of his time and he was able to
bring classical Greek Epic Poems to life. Even though Monteverdi was one of the greatest composers
of his times it must have been very daunting challenge to take a story that had been only really heard
and written down almost from interpretation from the Greeks and turn it into an Italian Opera. Another
challenge he may have faced was condensing the long Epic Poem so that the audience could sit
through the opera and still get the most important points of the Epic Poem. One of biggest problems
Monteverdi must have encountered was when he first began to compose the story of Ulysses there was
the challenge that it was in a completely different language. Homer wrote the Odyssey in Greek and
Monteverdi was Italian, to add to this the Greek Homer wrote the story in was completely different
from the Greek that the native people spoke. Even though the Odyssey was already being translated,
no one really knew how to translate Greek; it had been a langue that basically disappeared for some
time. This could have mean that some of the story could have literally been lost in translation, or the
Italian scholars could have added even some parts of the story accidently due to misinterpretation.
Monteverdi being one the greatest composers would have had to study the story of Ulysses and known
the story thoroughly no matter what translation he may have read or heard. Knowing the plot of the
story he would then have to match musical pieces to each of the characters, and there were many
characters in this Epic Poem, who were fundamental to this opera even more difficult to compose. Not
only did Monteverdi have to face a language barrier but also, he then had to keep in mind each
character Homer wrote about. Homer incorporated many people into the Odyssey, including
characters from his past works as well as the gods as they played a

A Short Walk On The Twilight
River stood interrupting Cinder s thoughts he announced, I do believe it s time to show Cinder the
underground clubs. They all agreed and stood to don their coats.
As they exited the building, River took a deep breath and glanced around at the night sky. The
temperature has risen, and I do enjoy the twilight only Russia can provide. How is everyone for a
short walk to the tunnel? Everyone glanced at Cinder, as the only mostly human she would be the one
to decide if she could handle the cold. I would love a walk in the twilight. Cinder did her best to smile
she wanted to enjoy tonight.
It was a very short walk, before they were entering a railroad tunnel; Cinder thought as short cuts went
it was rather dangerous. Hey guys, why are we walking into a railroad tunnel what if a train comes?
Cinder had Tazzy tucked under her arm covered by her coat when he popped his head out and
explained. This is not for trains; if you look closely you will see there are no tracks.
Cinder used her boot to clear away the snow in front of her as she walked closer to the entrance, and
found he was right there were no train tracks.
Shadow revealed, Once inside the tunnel, the lights will start to come on lighting our path until we
reach the stairs leading down. Then the lamplights from the underground area will light our way. You
will see that there are sidewalks lining the fronts of the clubs, along with a few restaurants, and coffee
houses. I do believe there is even a building that

Emoji And Semiotics
Emoji and Semiotics
On the other hand, to further comprehend the reasons behind the continuous usage of emojis, we have
to understand that according to Chandler, signs and symbols may take several forms such as words,
images, sounds, gestures and/or objects and in the case of this study, they are the emojis. Semiotics,
which is the study of signs will give light to how netizens make use of these man made symbols, the
emojis. Semiotics is the study of signs and there are two parts of it the signifier and the signified.
Signifier which is the representation itself, or its physical form and the signified is the meaning its
viewers attached to it. In relation to the study, the emoji being the physical form and the signifier, is
the one that will be identified through the user if it gives out the same interpretation to each person
and what are the variations of meaning associated with it. Thus giving answers, if it is an efficient
addition to communication or it is not.
According to Saussaure as cited by Brissons (2015), Langue is the actual language spoken, while
Parole is the individual interpretation or speech act. Meanwhile, according to Brissons (2015) the

Proteins And Its Effect On Human Body
Proteins are one of the most important biological molecules in the body; they make up more than 50%
of the dry mass in human body cells. Their simple structure can be described as amino acid polymers
as they are made up of many amino acid monomers stringed together in a linear fashion, which then
gives rise to more complex structures, as various bonding and manipulation takes place. The name
protein comes from the Greek word meaning holding first place which supports the fact that they are
essential to life. Proteins, depending on their structure and where they are found, play very different
roles in an organism. One of the main types of proteins are enzymes which act as biological catalysts,
and are fundamental to the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An amino acid is made up of a carbon atom in the centre (known as the  carbon), a carboxyl group,
amino group, a hydrogen atom and an R group (figure 1). The R group is the section of the amino acid
that determines its chemical properties. In glycine, the R group is hydrogen. Some of the amino acids
have R groups that are hydrophobic and some have R groups that are hydrophilic and this often
determines how the protein folds into its tertiary structure and also where they can be found within the
cell. It is the sequence of these amino acids that determines the type of protein that is made. Amino
acids join to form proteins in a process known as protein synthesis where a gene is expressed to
produce a polypeptide chain. After the genetic code has been translated from the DNA in the nucleus,
the resulting mRNA is transcribed into a polypeptide in the cytoplasm of the cell. The mRNA binds to
a ribosome and has 3 base pairs exposed called a codon. The anticodon of a tRNA molecule can then
bind to the codon as it has complementary base pairs, and it carries with it an amino acid. The first
amino acid in the chain is always methionine. When a second tRNA, carrying a different amino acid
arrives and binds, a peptide bond forms between the two amino acids and the resulting product is a
dipeptide molecule two amino acids joined together. This process continues and as more amino acids
are joined together by peptide

Gender Reflection
The concept of gender is broad but identifying as a female, it has impacted my life in many ways, such
as introducing me to the concept of being a feminist. I would not be the individual I am today without
that. Over time, my gender has also made me a more confident person and given me the strength to
take pride in being a woman: a woman studying science, a woman unafraid to have a voice, a strong
woman. I have become more educated and aware of societal concepts, both lies and truths and a big
part of that was due to friends I made who introduced me to a new mindset and new ways of looking
at things.
Early on in my life, I distinguished the difference between gender which was, with my limited
knowledge only men and woman, due to the difference in the way we were treated. I became familiar
with the stereotypes that society flung on us women cook and clean and men do all the labour. It was a
traditional way of thinking that I grew up with and that didn t change until I was much older, probably
around the age of 13 or 14. My cousin, a brilliantly loud and passionate woman (even at 15 years of
age) introduced the term feminism to me and I truly thought she was crazy and man hating, just like
all the stereotypes led me to believe. I began to learn, though. As time passed, I started absorbing all
sorts of new information and the most important thing was that I educated myself. I looked at gender
again but from a different angle. I questioned society, I questioned everything. Feminism opened a
door to a realm that I had only begun to explore at the time. I have both a younger brother and sister
and I noticed all the pressure around them to be certain ways, especially my brother because growing
up with two older sisters taught him to be gentle and soft spoken, unlike what a real man ought to be
when he grows up. I realized how toxic masculinity could be and I wanted to be a good example to my
siblings and taught myself more on the subject. I taught myself the ways that gender was harmful,
including the notion that we all had to fit a binary.
Growing up, everyone I knew was either male or female . When I became a part of a big community
on certain social medias (tumblr, Instagram) I started making friends who

Dbq For The Giver
Can a perfect society be perfect for everyone? The Giver is a novel that was written by Lois Lowry.
She got the idea from her father who was suffering from memory loss. This made her think, what
would it be like to live in a society where all pain was gone? And thus The Giver came to be. Is The
Giver a utopia or a dystopia? It is a dystopia because of releases, limited choices, and the lack of
knowledge. First of all, let s start by saying that The Giver is a dystopia because of the releases or
deaths that they perform. According to Document D, To his surprise, his father began very carefully to
direct the needle into the top of the new child s forehead, puncturing the place where the fragile skin
pulsed. The newborn squirmed, and wailed faintly. This is the part in the book where Jonas s father
injects the newborn twin with a shot that killed him. They killed the twin just because he was a twin.
That is just so cruel and inhuman. This shows that in The Giver, they kill innocent people like that
newborn twin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

certainty. What if they were allowed to choose their own mate? And chose wrong? This shows that
people in The Giver can t make any choices of their in. This is because it was decided by the
Committee of Elders that people could choose wrong and that would be bad. But, sometimes wrong
choices are needed to make the person learn and become a better person

Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality
Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Counseling by Mark R. McMinn is a book that discusses
two different characteristics of the Christian Counseling field: in counseling sessions and life beyond
the counseling sessions for example, the counselor s job and the counselor s life. Dr. McMinn starts
his book with a brief section written with James Wilhoit that discusses religion in the counseling
office.
This first section talks about the importance of making good use of the Christian faith in counseling
and not focusing on the relationship between psychology and theology (McMinn, 1996, p. 25). It also
states the challenges that religion brings in counseling sessions and how to handle those. In the
chapters that follow, McMinn talks about six Christian concepts in counseling.
McMinn talks about a few challenges when a counselor attempts to integrate psychology and
theology. Some of these are complications of spiritual formation, blurred professional and personal
life, training problems, worldview differences, no scientific support, and unique ethical elements in
religious counseling (McMinn, 1996, p. 46). McMinn talks about three areas that Christian counseling
makes stronger: sense of self, an awareness of human need and limitations that everyone has, and
talking about personal relationships we have with God and others.
In the third chapter, McMinn talks about prayer in counseling. Prayer is a part of life for many people.
Prayer is more than a form of counseling; it

If there is one thing that has not changed in the past one hundred years it is the populations love for a
thrilling, eerie story; including those about vampires. However, what has changed in the last one
hundred years is cultural appropriation and the idea of vampirism itself. So despite being written in
two entirely different centuries with two entirely different vampire etiquettes, the novels Twilight by
young adult author Stephanie Meyer and Dracula by 19th century gothic author Bram Stoker, both use
of the matter of sexuality through characters actions and to help develop the good vs. evil based plot
throughout the stories. Although there are no actual physical acts of sex done by the characters in
either of the two novels, the lust and idea of sexuality is extremely present in the characters behaviors
throughout both. In Twilight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not to feed on humans this makes it all the more difficult for them to resist. It is the physical attraction
as well as reaction Bella has towards Edward that initially brings them together, and what keeps Bella
around. She knows the risk she is taking by being with Edward and consequently being with him is
what got her involved with the evil vampire, James, which created the main conflict in the book. There

The Effects Of Workplace Safety On Organizations And Society
Understanding the importance of workplace safety prevention is critical in the study of occupational
health and safety. Workplace violence is a term used to describe a situation in which an individual
experiences verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, or physical assault in their place of
employment or business related functions or events (OSH Answers Fact Sheet). This is a common
occurrence in many workplaces and has a significant impact on the employees mental state, interfering
with their ability to work successfully (Barling). Through research on the OHSA, the Occupational
Safety and Health Act and historical data, we are able to explore the implications of workplace safety
on organizations and society. CCOHS, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A survey conducted in 2004 demonstrated that 17% of reported incidents, or approximately 356,000
incidents occurred in the workplace. It is also estimated that only one in five victims reported
workplace violence (Violence in the Workplace). It is clear that workplace violence is an ongoing
issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that workplace
violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to not only the
victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that when primary
victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of developing PTSD, post
traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims of workplace bullying
reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen). A few more symptoms
of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind them of the traumatic
events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are factors that hinder an
employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2015). Workplace violence
does not only affect the primary victim. Secondary victims are known as the individuals that
experience the same anxiety and discomfort as primary victims, even

Abstract: Advancement in recent years on the efficiency of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) in
production and cost benefits have increased their use as alternative means to steel rebar in bridge deck
bases. The purpose in applying rebar is to increase the tensile strength of concrete. Considering the
versatility of bridges there are many factors that need to be analyzed when choosing whether to use
steel rebar or GFRP material such as: cost, tensile strength, and weather resistance. Stress strain
graphs were calculated, graphed, and analyzed to determine the yield tensile strength and stiffness of
steel rebar and GFRP. Data collected from alkaline bath tests were graphed and analyzed to determine
the thermal and corrosion resistance of each material. Costs per square inch of each material were also
compared as well as each materials quality and life expectancy. The results of the conducted test
analysis found the GFRP to have greater thermal resistance, lower cost, and higher life expectancy
than the steel rebar, however the steel rebar s stiffness was found to be about six times larger than the
GFRP s. These results suggest that the advancements in GFRP can provide longer lasting bridge
structures and will change the future of construction and restoration of bridges.

Renewable Sources Of Energy As Being Sustainable.it
This essay seeks to identify a number of challenges which are encountered when trying to identify
what a sustainable source of energy is. To do this, it first briefly states ways in which the term
sustainable energy has been interpreted by various bodies and individuals and ways in which people
seek to identify an energy source which is truly sustainable. This essay seeks to point out the flaw in
classifying all renewable sources of energy as being sustainable. It will achieve this by comparing two
energy related projects, proving how sustainable a non renewable source can be and vice versa. Lastly,
it will prove ways in which different people s misconceptions can affect further progress with these
energy related projects.
A number of suitable definitions of sustainable energy run through this essay. Sustainable Energy has
been defined as; A living harmony between the equitable availability of energy services to all people
and the preservation of the earth for future generations (Tester, Drake, Driscoll, Golay, Peters, 2005).
This from my own point of view is the most accurate definition by far. Pointedly, it is in contrast with
a number of definitions; for example this one by Denzil Walton stating that; Sustainable energy is
regarded as the system of producing, transporting, distributing and consuming energy in a way that
promotes a reduction in the rate of consumption of non renewable resources which lead to
environmental degradation while providing at socially

Analysis Of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower By Stephen...
What is a wallflower? The definition varies widely, but it is generally used to describe an individual
that is shy and fades into the background while observing everything around them. Wallflowers tend
to have a highly developed outlook on life a more in depth understanding of the things going on
around them, and deeper friendships. They tend to express themselves more freely and are sometimes
unpredictable in their actions and conversations. The book The Perks of Being a Wallflower by
Stephen Chbosky opens our eyes to the benefits of being a wallflower through Charlie s experiences.
Wallflowers tend to look at the deeper meanings of things. A lot of times people tend to take things at
face value because they don t have time or have no interest in digging deeper into their meanings.
Charlie definitely takes the time to consider the actual meanings of things. For example, there is a

am writing to you because she said you listen and understand and didn t try to sleep with that person at
that party even though you could have (2). This is not very conventional, nor is it really looked upon
very well. However, it just adds to his character. A second example of this is when Craig doesn t show
up to play Rocky, and he is asked to play his part. Now, most wallflowers are generally pretty shy, so
we would ve expected him to say no, but he agrees! He says, The next thing I know, I was wearing

Although mimicry of background patterns and textures is a common defence mechanism for the
species under class Cephalopoda, mimicking of individual animals in the absence of the model is a
unique feature in T.mimicus. It chooses to make itself more conspicuous to predators by mimicking
high contrast colour patterned species. The mimic octopus is the best example of the Batesian mimics.

The order in which the T.mimicus lineage evolved was based on several key traits. The ancestors of
T.mimicus evolved the use of bold colour patterns as the secondary defence mechanism to shock and
surprise the predators if camouflage failed. Additionally, the long arms were developed which
facilitates the motion of flatfish swimming technique. Finally, an extremely risky shift in defence
strategy was developed as the T.mimicus began displaying the bold colour patterns while mimicking a
flatfish2. Dr Christine Huffard says that the close relatives of T.mimicus used drab colours and
camouflage quite successfully to hide from predators1. However, it is assumed that as a result of
natural selection, being conspicuous has allowed it to reproduce and survive more successfully than
some of its less conspicuous ancestors and eventually evolved into its own lineage (clearly shown in
Figure 1). The life span in captivity has been reported to be only months or even days with the highest
reported life span being less than a year. Commercial trade and pet trade of these octopuses could
seriously harm the population of the mimic octopus in the

Rationale And Issues That Occurs When Managers Read A...
This paper will discuss the rationale and issues that occurs when managers read a popular book by a
management guru and hastily tries to implement its idea and one size fits all recommendations without
proper regards for the organization s unique problems and needs. The quick fix mentality that fosters
this problem can be avoided by remaining current with management literature from the field, ensure
that the concepts are applied based on science rather than advocacy. The First 90 Days: Proven
Strategies for Getting Up to Speed Faster and Smarter by Michael D. Watkins is a remarkable book
that covers all the issues listed above with real scenario. Mr. Watkins was asked by Johnson Johnson s
Corporate Management Development Group (J J) to develop workshops and coaching processes to
accelerate the company s leaders in transition, and his work soon evolved into an engaging partnership
with J J as the testing bed for his new development and deployment of his ideas. I really enjoyed
reading this book, because it made me think of all the times when I faced these problems and did not
understand why or what went wrong in many situations by reading the book it changed the way I think
about many things. The actions are taken during the first few months in a new role will largely
determine if there is success or failure, when this happens the problems can be traced to vicious cycles
that develop in the first few months on the job, whether failure to lose your opportunities or

Joker Vs Marvel
My game will be in the form of a quiz about DC and Marvel comics, which will be aimed at comic
lovers. It will feature aspects of the comics in the cinematic and television world too. Both comic
companies are well established; familiar superheroes in the DC world, include Superman, Batman,
Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman, and Green Arrow. Moreover, well known
superhero teams still in the DC universe are Justice League, Justice Society, Watchmen, and the Teen
Titans, as well as antagonists such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Deathstroke, and Professor
Zoom/Reverse Flash. Furthermore, popular Marvel superheroes, include Spider Man, Wolverine, Iron

Social Media And International News Coverage
Terrorist attacks occur around the globe, but how does the location and the target affect the world s
response to the attack? The following will investigate two attacks that occurred in two very different
parts of the world at relatively the same time and the reasons for the disparity in their attention on
social media and international news coverage. The 2015 Baga Massacre occurred January 3 7 in the
Nigerian town of Baga. The series of mass killings was committed by Boko Haram, a Salafi jihadist
group. Boko Haram raided the regional Multinational Joint Task Force base, then turned on the locals.
Grabbing their machetes, a group of young men fought the attackers off, but a few hours later, Boko
Haram fighters returned with increased numbers and opened fire, forcing everyone to run. As many as
15,000 people fled to Chad with another 5,000 seeking refuge 100 miles away in the capital
Maiduguri (Fessy). Disputes exist about the number of fatalities, with estimates varying from 150 to
2,000 deaths, part of this indeterminacy is that the government did not make an effort to solidify the
death toll and no one stayed behind to count the bodies after Boko Haram ravaged the city (Fessy). On
January 7, 2015, two brothers Saïd and Chérif Kouachi attacked the French satirical newspaper offices
of Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The newspaper was known for printing satirized versions of religious and
political figures and printed controversial depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, which was the

Life Accomplishments Of A Wild Elephant
On April 13, 1796, Barnum and Bailey Circus purchased a two year old female, Asian elephant for
one thousand dollars. This is the first of many elephants that were purchased for the two largest
circuses in America, Barnum and Bailey and Ringling Bros Circus. While today there are only around
sixty nine elephants that are still involved in the circus act, there was at one time approximately three
hundred and five. The U.S. Department of Agriculture oversees the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and
does not distinguish between zoos and circuses. This implies that the main goals of the zoos and

Elephants can walk up to forty miles in the wild, but hardly get enough exercise to keep them alive in
circuses and zoos. They are forced to sleep and walk on concrete floors and are often on train cars
most of their life. This can cause arthritis, foot abscesses, and other foot and joint dangers.
The average lifespan of a wild elephant is anywhere from sixty to seventy years old. Because of
chronic health problems such as tuberculosis, arthritis, and foot abscesses, captive elephants are lucky
if they live forty years. The oldest captive elephant, Peaches, died at the age of fifty five in 2005 at the
Lincoln Park Zoo. Furthermore, attempting the breed captive elephants has been highly unsuccessful.
Of the five elephants born in 2003, three of them died within the first twelve months.
Aside from humans, elephants have no natural enemies. When left alone, elephants are peaceful
creatures and not aggressive. Naturally, elephants do not stand on their hind legs or on their heads or
perform tricks you see at the circus. In order to make an animal perform an act they do not understand,
you must literally beat them into submission. This practices are demeaning, unnatural and cause fear
in the elephants. They are routinely beaten, shocked, abused, and chained for days at a

Pride In Citizen Kane
Orson Wells Citizen Kane (1941), is remembered as one of the greatest American films to be made. Its
revolutionary story line and its new ideas that Orson Welles introduces in the film is what sets it apart
from other films created at the time. The film depicts a young man, Charles Kane, who grew up
wealthy and who eventually owns a newspaper. Throughout the movie, as hr grows more wealthy and
powerful as he ages, he exhibits a distinct weakness that eventually leads to his downfall. Although

The definition of pride goeth before a fall is a display over overconfidence and arrogance that will
lead to the eventual fall. Then people don t display empathy empathy because of the previous
confidence and arrogance.() In the case of both films, this definition would not be considered accurate.
In both films, the character who was most affected felt empathetic about the downfall of the
protagonist. In Citizen Kane, the character who was most affected by Charles Kane s pride was his
second wife, Susan Kane. Evidently, she was affected most by his pride, but she also contributed to his
downfall. Charles Kane forced her to become a opera star when she didn t want to, he did this so he
could manipulate the public opinion of himself. Similarly he previously used his newspaper and his
political campaign to accomplish the same thing. At one point in the film, Susan Kane attempted
suicide rather to continue to sing. The main reason she wanted to stop performing was because of the
bad reviews that she continued to get, she also didn t enjoy singing to begin with, and especially being
on a stage with hundreds of people watching her. After Charles Kane dies she was shown as poor

Impact Of Natural Resources On Economic Growth
QUESTION 9
Natural resource and its effect on economic growth and dynamics of conflicts.
1.0 Introduction
Natural resources are raw materials extracted from the earth. They are useful in many different ways
for its diversified opportunity of benefit and profit for economic development. Examples of natural
resources are mineral, oil, waterways, land, timber, diamonds, coals, coltan and genetic. Majority of
developing countries, distributions of natural resources vary from one geographic location to another.
The variability of location has caused greed and grievances in economic development. This was
attributed to more risk of conflict, weak governance, and poor economic performance.
2.0 Effect of natural resources on economic growth.
According to Collier and Hoeffer (2003), there are three major factors that depend on the primary
commodity exports such as income per capita, rate of economic growth, and structure of the economy,
the higher the rate of primary commodities exports the higher the level of risk of conflict. Developing
countries that are dependent on natural resources are more liable to terms of trade shocks, which leads
to instability and dissatisfaction within the groups that suffer the shocks. Since natural resources are
wealth and unevenly distributed causes the rebel groups ventures in various forms of extortion,
exploitation, and trade of primary commodity. The best known types of conflict are the diamond of

The Space Shuttle Columbia Explosion

incident. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) had stopped the space shuttle
program for more than two years to investigate this tragedy. In the 16 days period, the astronauts did
approximately 80 experiments on different categories, for example, life science and material science
[1]. An investigation later has found out that the disaster was caused by a problem on the day that took
off on 16th of January.
What happens when launch? It was the Columbia s 28th mission, which was originally scheduled to
launch two years ago, on 11th of January, 2001, but was delayed 13 times due to different missions
took priority in the two years period. On 16th January at 1210 a.m., a problem with the external tank
attachment ring had discovered. Due to this fault, the ring plate might not meet the safety factor
requirement of 1.4, that is, able to withstand 1.4 times the maximum load expected in operation.
(CAIB 2003 p.33). Then, based on Columbia space shuttle had delayed for too long, the safety factor
requirement was waived. The active manager of the launch team then gave a GO signal to the space
shuttle. At 57 seconds after launched, Columbia received a wind shear which increased the
aerodynamic force on the external tank. It might be one of the reasons that leads to the

Essay about The National Health Services
The National health services (NHS) provides a comprehensive healthcare services across the entire
nation. It is considered to be UK s proudest institution, and is envied by many other countries because
of its free of cost health delivery to its population. Nevertheless, it is often seen as a political football
as it affects all of us in some way and hence everyone carry an opinion about it (Cass, 2006). Factors
such as government policies, funding, number of service users, taxation etc all make up small parts of
this large complex organisation. Therefore, any imbalances within one sector can pose a substantial

However, a healthy lifestyle was seen to prevail among the rich population (Webster, 2002; Geoffrey,
2011). Later, findings from a series of reports including report from Royal commission on National
Health Insurance in 1926; The Sankey Commission on Voluntary Hospitals in 1937; and reports from
British Medical Association (BMA) in 1930 and 1938, all collectively indicated that inadequacy
existed in the pattern of the services (Christopher, 2004; Webster, 2002). Evident were reports of
conflicting care and duplication of work between the municipal and voluntary hospitals (Wheeler
Grice, 2000). Additionally, world war had a huge impact on the health services and the conditions in
which hospitals, theatres, radiology and pathology department operated was very poor. Thus, no
machinery existed that supported running of a coordinated healthcare system, hence a need for
unified, simplified and cohesive system was felt (Smith, 2007). Furthermore, Royal Commission s
report suggested that funding for the health services might benefit from general taxation rather than its
basis on insurance principle (Christopher, 2004). However, it was not until the Beveridge report in
1942, which provided a huge drive and momentum for a movement of change in the health services.

As the one of the key factors to maintain the biodiver 415 sity, in conclusion, we have addressed the

Protestant Reformation Research Paper
Reformation
In the first half of the sixteenth century Western Europe experienced a wide range of social, artistic,
political changes as the result of a conflict within the Catholic church. This conflict is called the
Protestant Reformation, and the Catholic response to it is called the Counter Reformation.
The Reformation began when Martin Luther posted his Ninety Five theses against the indulgences of
the Church. These indulgences included if you did a good dead, this reduced the amount of
punishment which you deserved for your bad deeds, and which God would make you suffer after your
death before letting you into Heaven. Giving money to the Church was considered a good dead. If you
wanted to you could pay for the indulgences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On his way home he disappeared. What had started as a furious attempt to reform the church overnight
turned into a project of building a new church independent of the Catholic Church.
While Germany struggled under the political and religious consequences of Luther s reform
movement, the movement itself quickly spilled out of the German borders into neighboring
Switzerland. At the time, Switzerland was not a single country but a confederacy of thirteen city states
called cantons. When Luther s ideas began to pour over the border, several of the cantons broke from
the Catholic church and became Protestant while other cantons remained firmly Catholic. Of the
cantons that adopted Luther s new movement, the most important and powerful was the city state of
Zurich under the leadership of Ulrich Zwingli. He was popular in Zurich for his opposition to Swiss
mercenary service in foreign wars and his attacks on indulgences; he was, as significant a player in the
critique of indulgences as Luther himself.
Zwingli rose through the ranks of the Catholic Church until he was appointed People s Priest in 1519,
the most powerful ecclesiastical position in the city. In 1523, the city officially adopted Zwingli s
central ecclesiastical reforms and became the first Protestant state outside of Germany. From there the
Protestant revolution would sweep across the map of Switzerland. Zwingli s theology and morality
were based on a single principle that

This phenomenal change in the international environment in which business is conducted has resulted
in increased levels of foreign direct investment by companies from developed countries in lesser
developed economies such as the Third World as economic benefits were sought through the
globalization of production as well as markets. (Hill 2011, p.5)
With the benefits being widely seen to outweigh the disadvantages smaller companies are looking for
the arrangements internationally that would best serve their interests of growth and expansion with
companies from lesser developed countries now also looking to capitalize as well by creating
synergies at the basic level by expanding their market horizons overseas, penetrating first and
expanding as demand and relationships develop. This shift in the world economy towards greater
integration and interdependence is one way of describing Globalization (Hill 2011, p.7).

Sunset Boulevard Essay
A fragment of life in Hollywood is being spread over the screen of the Music Hall in Sunset
Boulevard. Utilizing as the premise of their forthcoming, burning dramatization a shameful
circumstance including a blurred, maturing quiet screen star and a destitute, pessimistic youthful
scriptwriter, Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder (with an aid from D. M. Marshman, Jr.) have
composed an effective story of the aspirations and disappointments that join to make life in the

Sunset Boulevard is in no way, shape or form an adjusted story of Hollywood, past or present. Be that
as it may it is such a cunning compound of truth and legend and is so lavishly fragrant of the past, yet
so contemporaneous that it apparently talks with extraordinary power. Sunset Boulevard is that

Radical Formulas
This week we learned about Radical Formulas and how this can be applied in our everyday lives.
Radicals seem very complicated at first, but because we have learned so much already, it is just taking
what we already know and apply it to the problem that we have been assigned. I have been asked to
work a problem 103 and 104 on pages 605 and 606 of our math book Elementary and Intermediate
Algebra. We are going to break out each step to show how we came to our answer. By breaking out
our problems, we will have a better understanding of the solving radical formulas.
We will start working problem 103 on page ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

function S = 16Ad 2/3. a) Find S to the nearest tenth for the Tartan 4100, which has a sail area of 810
square feet and a displacement of 23,245 pounds. b) Write d in terms of A and S .
Step one
Starting with our formula.
Step two
Here we have plugged in the values into our formula. When solving we do order of operations first
and we will solve exponents first.
Step three
Complete the multiplication
Step four
This is our solution
Now we will solve the second part of the problem.
Step one
Step two
We will divide by 16A
Step three
Step four
Raise all the parts to the 3/2 power.
Step five
The (16A)3/2 has became the reciprocal to the 3/2 power
Step six
Here is the solution for d.
To conclude we showed how use the Radical Formulas in each problem that we were working. We
broke out each step so that we would have a better time understanding how one would answer this
question. We have shown our work in hopes that other will be able to follow these same steps to find
their solutions. We now have a better understanding of the Radical Formulas.

The And Criminal Law For Misappropriation Of Personal...
Question set 1 1. Who can sign a medical release form (authorization) to obtain PHI? According to
Gartee (2011), Privately Held Information is meant to be safeguarded, but there are times when the
information in them is needed for varied purposes. When that is the case, then authorization can be
given by the patient or the healthcare provided. A patient that is incapacitated will need a guardian to
sign. At the same time, a minor can also use a guardian to sign the release form on behalf of the
patient. Within the release form, there should be the name of the facility with holding the PHI; the
specific information needed to be released, the name of the person the PHI is released to and the
purpose of the release (Iyer et al., 2006). 2. What are the civil and criminal penalties for
misappropriation of personal health information (PHI)? Misappropriation of PHI involves staff of the
health facilities or any other person that is not authorized to have the health information of another.
For that the penalties according to the US Department of Justice are; a penalty of up to fifty thousand
dollars and incarceration of up to one year for those who knowingly obtain and disclose PHI of

The Industrial Waste Management Practices
INTRODUCTION:
Huge plants which operate in the industry of light, chemicals and other heavy industries, although
providing substantial employment and improving the economy, contribute to a lot of aquatic pollution
. Unless the industrial waste management practices are regulated and monitored for sensitive water
bodies around them, they pose a significant contamination risk. Locating a resourceful site, providing
facilities along with industrial waste and operational management practices are needed to minimize
this risk.
The most commonly affecting industrial waste includes petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals,
surfactants, toxins and/or salts, which pollute surrounding water bodies, making them unsuitable for
most of the water needs and harming the aquatic life therein. Algal blooms and oxygen deficit are the
result of excessive nutrients found in the waters.
Industrial wastes are also known to pollute underground water too which increase the cost and risk of
cleaning/treating sewage. Industrial pollutants such as oxygen scavengers may corrode pipes and
equipment in the sewerage collection system and in treatment plants. Greases and suspended matter
can cause pipe blockages and odors.

Prison Reform Case Study
Institutional Context
The United States has reached a state of emergency in dealing with the opioid crisis. Change needs to
occur by decriminalizing all drugs. Decriminalization would look like reducing prison time as well as
expunging the criminal record of a minimal offender, the money that was previously used on jail
would now be used on rehabilitation. This hopeful policy will be brought to the institutional level of
the state, also known as the state legislature. The policy would be important to bring to this level
because the state has the power to reduce jail time for drug crimes, as well as change drug felonies to
misdemeanors*. A recent example of this state power has been seen in Oregon. Starting in July 2017
the state reduced jail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bringing this policy to a state legislature, the biggest actor would be a state senator who represents
large districts that have high drug prevalence. As a resident of the State of Massachusetts, the greater
Lowell area has a high drug problem*. Lowell is represented by Democrat State Senator Eileen
Donoghue*. Another key actor would be the support of residents in Lowell MA; Lowell has 11 rehab
facilities in the city*. Many members of the community who are aware of the opioid crisis are hoping
to change the way Lowell is perceived*. The influence of both citizens and Senator Donoghue would
help set decriminalization up to succeed in the community. Based on research Senator Donoghue will
prefer the policy on complete drug decriminalization. Donoghue will prefer this policy because she
has signed on bills and made active contributions towards a criminal reform*. Her recent bill to reform
criminal justice aligns similarly to what the new policy has suggested; with votes coming up soon,
Senator Donoghue may be looking for something to win voters over. The status quo would mean

Americanah Writing Style
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of the National Bestseller Americanah has a very descriptive,
personal writing style. The writing style is very unique, even though it isn t written in first person you
feel very close to the main character as if they re the one who s telling the story. The writer uses
imagery to make you feel as if you are in the setting that is being described. The tone of the writing is
honest, sensitive and innocent. She tells her thoughts and struggles of being an African in america and
what it means to be black for the first time. Throughout the whole book the author manages to keep an
innocent tone of writing. Starting with Ifemelu s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses diction and descriptive writing to share all her thoughts and observations on people.
She has always been very observant person, that is why she is always able to spot differences between
American people and the people of her hometown in Lagos. The man standing closest to her was
eating an ice cream cone; she had always found it a little irresponsible, the eating of ice cream cones
by grown up American men, especially the eating of ice cream cones by grown up American men in
public. ... The graying hair on the back of his head was swept forward, a comical arrangement to
disguise his bald spot. He had to be an academic, but not in the humanities or he would be more self
conscious. A firm science like chemistry, maybe. Before, she would have said, I know, that peculiar
American expression that professed agreement rather than knowledge, and then she would have
started a conversation with him, Her observations are descriptive and relatable, they are also thought
provoking. The writer often points out small details most people wouldn t notice. The Author s writing
structure can be described as speedy, as she often jumps from one childhood memory or event

Symbolism of Mount Rushmore Essay
The View from Mount Rushmore
Amidst the Black Hills of South Dakota, the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln watch over the nation. George Washington, often called
the father of the nation, was a leader in the American Revolutionary War to win independence from
Great Britain and later became the first president of the United States. Thomas Jefferson wrote the
Declaration of Independence and added territory that doubled the size of the nation through the
Louisiana Purchase. Theodore Roosevelt demonstrated strength, sought to improve the country
through the Progressive movement, and constructed the Panama Canal (Nsp.gov). Abraham Lincoln
sought to keep the country united during the Civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideographs function to elicit emotion from the public through their association to common concepts
and their application to different societal issues. Words like freedom and democracy act as ideographs
in that they have certain connotations and that are then manipulated according to the cultural situation.
An ideograph as outlined by McGee has four critical characteristics: it is able to warrant power or
guide behavior; it is used in political discourse; it is an abstraction representing collective
commitment; and it is culture bound (205 209). Janis L. Edwards and Carol K. Winkler in their study
Representative Form and the Visual Ideograph: The Iwo Jima Image in Editorial Cartoons argue
against Michael McGee s belief that ideographs are limited to verbal language (198 212). They protest
that visual images can also be used as ideographs because they fulfill McGee s formulated features of
an ideograph and are not merely icons, which are visual representations of words that always
symbolize the same concept or idea. The utilization of Mount Rushmore in editorial cartoons
functions as an example of a visual ideograph as distinguished by Edwards and Winkler. Through an
analysis of editorial cartoons with the Mount Rushmore image, I will provide further evidence to
Edwards s and Winkler s claim that visual images can exist as ideographs by fulfilling the major
characteristics of an ideograph as defined by McGee.

  • 2. Philippine Immigration in the USA after 1990 Essay The U.S. colonized the Philippines between 1900 and 1934. This had a significant impact on the mass immigration of the Filipinos. The Filipino immigrants were then made U.S. nationals and granted the opportunity of settling in the U.S. and protected by its law and constitution. The increase in demand for labor in California farmlands and Hawaiian plantation led to a surge of Filipino immigrants seeking these jobs (Abraham 14). They mostly came from the provinces of Cebu and Ilocos. The demand for labor in these farms was attributed to the exit of the Japanese work force from the plantations. The immigrants from Philippines mostly comprised of a subgroup known as Sakadas, who entered Hawaii as U.S. nationals. However, they did not enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About 3 million undocumented immigrants applied for amnesty out of which 2.7 were legalized under the amnesty program (Martin 17). After enactment of this IRCA act, there were adjustments and modification made on it by Congress with regards to the numerical limit and preference system. This saw Congress table a bill in the house that was later signed by President Bush in 1990 and currently known as the Immigration act of 1990. This Act laid emphasis on increasing the numerical limit of immigrants, revise the preference system, introduce diversity program and give a higher priority to employment based immigration. This law introduced an annual level of 675,000 immigrants per year in 1995 that included 480,000 for family related, 140,000 for employment based and 55, 000 for diversity immigrants. The Diversity Lottery Program has facilitated the admission of 50,000 immigrants from countries that have a low number of immigrants in the last five years. One study used a measurement of interviewing the parent and child, along with different questionnaires, to analyze creative potential and its relationship with having an imaginary companion, if there were any gender differences, and whether children would be more likely to have a negative self image. M. Taylor interviewed both children and their parents and demonstrated that the parents of younger children seemed more aware of their child having an imaginary companion, while only 20% of parents with children aged 6 to 7 knew, supporting study by Hurlock (1932). As cited in Manosevitz, a study done by Schmechel found direct questioning of the child about their imaginary companions had a higher occurrence (50%) compared to parental report (31%) (Manosevitz, 1977). Further suggesting that parental report alone is not affective in measurement of the presence of imaginary companions. In addition to the interview multiple questionnaires including the Activity Questionnaire, Creative Functioning Test, the Unusual Uses test, Self Image Inventory, and a questionnaire about imaginary companions were administered. Results found that having an imaginary companion was related to two out of three estimates of creative potential, contrary to Manosevitz findings, and having an imaginary companion was correlated with a lower self image (Hoff, 2005). Although having an imaginary companion was associated with a lower self image, that self image is still among average for those who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Monteverdi As An Epic Poem Analysis Composing an opera seems like a daunting task, now imagine trying to take an Epic Poem and make it into an opera, it seems almost like an ultimate challenge; a challenge only few would take on. One of the most famous composers who took on this challenge was Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi famously known only as Monteverdi, was one of the greatest composers of his time and he was able to bring classical Greek Epic Poems to life. Even though Monteverdi was one of the greatest composers of his times it must have been very daunting challenge to take a story that had been only really heard and written down almost from interpretation from the Greeks and turn it into an Italian Opera. Another challenge he may have faced was condensing the long Epic Poem so that the audience could sit through the opera and still get the most important points of the Epic Poem. One of biggest problems Monteverdi must have encountered was when he first began to compose the story of Ulysses there was the challenge that it was in a completely different language. Homer wrote the Odyssey in Greek and Monteverdi was Italian, to add to this the Greek Homer wrote the story in was completely different from the Greek that the native people spoke. Even though the Odyssey was already being translated, no one really knew how to translate Greek; it had been a langue that basically disappeared for some time. This could have mean that some of the story could have literally been lost in translation, or the Italian scholars could have added even some parts of the story accidently due to misinterpretation. Monteverdi being one the greatest composers would have had to study the story of Ulysses and known the story thoroughly no matter what translation he may have read or heard. Knowing the plot of the story he would then have to match musical pieces to each of the characters, and there were many characters in this Epic Poem, who were fundamental to this opera even more difficult to compose. Not only did Monteverdi have to face a language barrier but also, he then had to keep in mind each character Homer wrote about. Homer incorporated many people into the Odyssey, including characters from his past works as well as the gods as they played a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Proteins And Its Effect On Human Body Proteins are one of the most important biological molecules in the body; they make up more than 50% of the dry mass in human body cells. Their simple structure can be described as amino acid polymers as they are made up of many amino acid monomers stringed together in a linear fashion, which then gives rise to more complex structures, as various bonding and manipulation takes place. The name protein comes from the Greek word meaning holding first place which supports the fact that they are essential to life. Proteins, depending on their structure and where they are found, play very different roles in an organism. One of the main types of proteins are enzymes which act as biological catalysts, and are fundamental to the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An amino acid is made up of a carbon atom in the centre (known as the  carbon), a carboxyl group, amino group, a hydrogen atom and an R group (figure 1). The R group is the section of the amino acid that determines its chemical properties. In glycine, the R group is hydrogen. Some of the amino acids have R groups that are hydrophobic and some have R groups that are hydrophilic and this often determines how the protein folds into its tertiary structure and also where they can be found within the cell. It is the sequence of these amino acids that determines the type of protein that is made. Amino acids join to form proteins in a process known as protein synthesis where a gene is expressed to produce a polypeptide chain. After the genetic code has been translated from the DNA in the nucleus, the resulting mRNA is transcribed into a polypeptide in the cytoplasm of the cell. The mRNA binds to a ribosome and has 3 base pairs exposed called a codon. The anticodon of a tRNA molecule can then bind to the codon as it has complementary base pairs, and it carries with it an amino acid. The first amino acid in the chain is always methionine. When a second tRNA, carrying a different amino acid arrives and binds, a peptide bond forms between the two amino acids and the resulting product is a dipeptide molecule two amino acids joined together. This process continues and as more amino acids are joined together by peptide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Gender Reflection The concept of gender is broad but identifying as a female, it has impacted my life in many ways, such as introducing me to the concept of being a feminist. I would not be the individual I am today without that. Over time, my gender has also made me a more confident person and given me the strength to take pride in being a woman: a woman studying science, a woman unafraid to have a voice, a strong woman. I have become more educated and aware of societal concepts, both lies and truths and a big part of that was due to friends I made who introduced me to a new mindset and new ways of looking at things. Early on in my life, I distinguished the difference between gender which was, with my limited knowledge only men and woman, due to the difference in the way we were treated. I became familiar with the stereotypes that society flung on us women cook and clean and men do all the labour. It was a traditional way of thinking that I grew up with and that didn t change until I was much older, probably around the age of 13 or 14. My cousin, a brilliantly loud and passionate woman (even at 15 years of age) introduced the term feminism to me and I truly thought she was crazy and man hating, just like all the stereotypes led me to believe. I began to learn, though. As time passed, I started absorbing all sorts of new information and the most important thing was that I educated myself. I looked at gender again but from a different angle. I questioned society, I questioned everything. Feminism opened a door to a realm that I had only begun to explore at the time. I have both a younger brother and sister and I noticed all the pressure around them to be certain ways, especially my brother because growing up with two older sisters taught him to be gentle and soft spoken, unlike what a real man ought to be when he grows up. I realized how toxic masculinity could be and I wanted to be a good example to my siblings and taught myself more on the subject. I taught myself the ways that gender was harmful, including the notion that we all had to fit a binary. Growing up, everyone I knew was either male or female . This made her think, what would it be like to live in a society where all pain was gone? And thus The Giver came to be. Is The Giver a utopia or a dystopia? It is a dystopia because of releases, limited choices, and the lack of knowledge. First of all, let s start by saying that The Giver is a dystopia because of the releases or deaths that they perform. According to Document D, To his surprise, his father began very carefully to direct the needle into the top of the new child s forehead, puncturing the place where the fragile skin pulsed. The newborn squirmed, and wailed faintly. This is the part in the book where Jonas s father injects the newborn twin with a shot that killed him. They killed the twin just because he was a twin. • 13. Psychology, Theology, And Spirituality Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Counseling by Mark R. McMinn is a book that discusses two different characteristics of the Christian Counseling field: in counseling sessions and life beyond the counseling sessions for example, the counselor s job and the counselor s life. Dr. McMinn starts his book with a brief section written with James Wilhoit that discusses religion in the counseling office. This first section talks about the importance of making good use of the Christian faith in counseling and not focusing on the relationship between psychology and theology (McMinn, 1996, p. 25). It also states the challenges that religion brings in counseling sessions and how to handle those. In the chapters that follow, McMinn talks about six Christian concepts in counseling. McMinn talks about a few challenges when a counselor attempts to integrate psychology and theology. Some of these are complications of spiritual formation, blurred professional and personal life, training problems, worldview differences, no scientific support, and unique ethical elements in religious counseling (McMinn, 1996, p. 46). McMinn talks about three areas that Christian counseling makes stronger: sense of self, an awareness of human need and limitations that everyone has, and talking about personal relationships we have with God and others. In the third chapter, McMinn talks about prayer in counseling. Prayer is a part of life for many people. Prayer is more than a form of counseling; it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Workplace violence is a term used to describe a situation in which an individual experiences verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, or physical assault in their place of employment or business related functions or events (OSH Answers Fact Sheet). This is a common occurrence in many workplaces and has a significant impact on the employees mental state, interfering with their ability to work successfully (Barling). It is also estimated that only one in five victims reported workplace violence (Violence in the Workplace). It is clear that workplace violence is an ongoing issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that workplace violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to not only the victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that when primary victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of developing PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims of workplace bullying reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen). A few more symptoms of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind them of the traumatic events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are factors that hinder an employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2015). Corrosion Resistance Of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Contents Abstract 2 Introduction 2 Corrosion 3 Deflections 5 Thermal 7 Timber Bridges 11 Reference 13 Abstract: Advancement in recent years on the efficiency of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) in production and cost benefits have increased their use as alternative means to steel rebar in bridge deck bases. The purpose in applying rebar is to increase the tensile strength of concrete. Considering the versatility of bridges there are many factors that need to be analyzed when choosing whether to use steel rebar or GFRP material such as: cost, tensile strength, and weather resistance. Stress strain graphs were calculated, graphed, and analyzed to determine the yield tensile strength and stiffness of steel rebar and GFRP. Data collected from alkaline bath tests were graphed and analyzed to determine the thermal and corrosion resistance of each material. Costs per square inch of each material were also compared as well as each materials quality and life expectancy. The results of the conducted test analysis found the GFRP to have greater thermal resistance, lower cost, and higher life expectancy than the steel rebar, however the steel rebar s stiffness was found to be about six times larger than the GFRP s. These results suggest that the advancements in GFRP can provide longer lasting bridge structures and will change the future of construction and restoration of bridges. To do this, it first briefly states ways in which the term sustainable energy has been interpreted by various bodies and individuals and ways in which people seek to identify an energy source which is truly sustainable. This essay seeks to point out the flaw in classifying all renewable sources of energy as being sustainable. It will achieve this by comparing two energy related projects, proving how sustainable a non renewable source can be and vice versa. Lastly, it will prove ways in which different people s misconceptions can affect further progress with these energy related projects. A number of suitable definitions of sustainable energy run through this essay. Sustainable Energy has been defined as; A living harmony between the equitable availability of energy services to all people and the preservation of the earth for future generations (Tester, Drake, Driscoll, Golay, Peters, 2005). • 23. Social Media And International News Coverage Terrorist attacks occur around the globe, but how does the location and the target affect the world s response to the attack? The following will investigate two attacks that occurred in two very different parts of the world at relatively the same time and the reasons for the disparity in their attention on social media and international news coverage. The 2015 Baga Massacre occurred January 3 7 in the Nigerian town of Baga. The series of mass killings was committed by Boko Haram, a Salafi jihadist group. Boko Haram raided the regional Multinational Joint Task Force base, then turned on the locals. Grabbing their machetes, a group of young men fought the attackers off, but a few hours later, Boko Haram fighters returned with increased numbers and opened fire, forcing everyone to run. As many as 15,000 people fled to Chad with another 5,000 seeking refuge 100 miles away in the capital Maiduguri (Fessy). Disputes exist about the number of fatalities, with estimates varying from 150 to 2,000 deaths, part of this indeterminacy is that the government did not make an effort to solidify the death toll and no one stayed behind to count the bodies after Boko Haram ravaged the city (Fessy). On January 7, 2015, two brothers Saïd and Chérif Kouachi attacked the French satirical newspaper offices of Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The newspaper was known for printing satirized versions of religious and political figures and printed controversial depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, which was the ... They are forced to sleep and walk on concrete floors and are often on train cars most of their life. This can cause arthritis, foot abscesses, and other foot and joint dangers. The average lifespan of a wild elephant is anywhere from sixty to seventy years old. Because of chronic health problems such as tuberculosis, arthritis, and foot abscesses, captive elephants are lucky if they live forty years. The oldest captive elephant, Peaches, died at the age of fifty five in 2005 at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Furthermore, attempting the breed captive elephants has been highly unsuccessful. In both films, the character who was most affected felt empathetic about the downfall of the protagonist. In Citizen Kane, the character who was most affected by Charles Kane s pride was his second wife, Susan Kane. Evidently, she was affected most by his pride, but she also contributed to his downfall. Charles Kane forced her to become a opera star when she didn t want to, he did this so he could manipulate the public opinion of himself. Similarly he previously used his newspaper and his political campaign to accomplish the same thing. At one point in the film, Susan Kane attempted suicide rather to continue to sing. Impact Of Natural Resources On Economic Growth QUESTION 9 Natural resource and its effect on economic growth and dynamics of conflicts. 1.0 Introduction Natural resources are raw materials extracted from the earth. They are useful in many different ways for its diversified opportunity of benefit and profit for economic development. Examples of natural resources are mineral, oil, waterways, land, timber, diamonds, coals, coltan and genetic. Majority of developing countries, distributions of natural resources vary from one geographic location to another. The variability of location has caused greed and grievances in economic development. This was attributed to more risk of conflict, weak governance, and poor economic performance. 2.0 Effect of natural resources on economic growth. According to Collier and Hoeffer (2003), there are three major factors that depend on the primary commodity exports such as income per capita, rate of economic growth, and structure of the economy, the higher the rate of primary commodities exports the higher the level of risk of conflict. Developing countries that are dependent on natural resources are more liable to terms of trade shocks, which leads to instability and dissatisfaction within the groups that suffer the shocks. Since natural resources are wealth and unevenly distributed causes the rebel groups ventures in various forms of extortion, exploitation, and trade of primary commodity. These indulgences included if you did a good dead, this reduced the amount of punishment which you deserved for your bad deeds, and which God would make you suffer after your death before letting you into Heaven. What had started as a furious attempt to reform the church overnight turned into a project of building a new church independent of the Catholic Church. While Germany struggled under the political and religious consequences of Luther s reform movement, the movement itself quickly spilled out of the German borders into neighboring Switzerland. At the time, Switzerland was not a single country but a confederacy of thirteen city states called cantons. When Luther s ideas began to pour over the border, several of the cantons broke from the Catholic church and became Protestant while other cantons remained firmly Catholic. Of the cantons that adopted Luther s new movement, the most important and powerful was the city state of Zurich under the leadership of Ulrich Zwingli. He was popular in Zurich for his opposition to Swiss mercenary service in foreign wars and his attacks on indulgences; he was, as significant a player in the critique of indulgences as Luther himself. Zwingli rose through the ranks of the Catholic Church until he was appointed People s Priest in 1519, the most powerful ecclesiastical position in the city. The Industrial Waste Management Practices INTRODUCTION: Huge plants which operate in the industry of light, chemicals and other heavy industries, although providing substantial employment and improving the economy, contribute to a lot of aquatic pollution . Unless the industrial waste management practices are regulated and monitored for sensitive water bodies around them, they pose a significant contamination risk. Locating a resourceful site, providing facilities along with industrial waste and operational management practices are needed to minimize this risk. The most commonly affecting industrial waste includes petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals, surfactants, toxins and/or salts, which pollute surrounding water bodies, making them unsuitable for most of the water needs and harming the aquatic life therein. Algal blooms and oxygen deficit are the result of excessive nutrients found in the waters. Industrial wastes are also known to pollute underground water too which increase the cost and risk of cleaning/treating sewage.
