Animal Vivisection
Live animal dissection have been recorded in ancient Greek writings from as early as 500 BC.
Vivisection (dissection of living organisms) was first practiced on humans in ancient Rome, but it
was soon prohibited and thus the need for animal subjects.
During the early stages of animal testing, Many philosophers debated on animal vivisection,
Aristotle argued that animals lacked intelligence, and so the meaning of right and wrong had no
meaning to them. Theophrastus, Aristotle s successor, disagreed and objected to the vivisection of
animals on the idea that like humans, they can feel pain, and causing pain to animals was an insult
to the gods. Descartes knew that animals could feel, but lacked a conscious, thus he argued that
they were unable to consciously experience those feelings. Many others believed that animals were
automata and that the way they experience pain and feelings is not the same as humans. Not until
animals as pets were becoming more common did people start to really question the morality of
animal vivisections, and thus, the birth of animal rights groups started popping up in 19th century
England.
Theodora Capaldo is president of the New England Anti Vivisection Society(NEAVS). An animal
rights organization with a goal to end the use of animals in research, testing and science. NEAVS is
dedicated to giving outreach and education for helping replace animals with more modern
alternatives that are more efficient, ethical and humane. In Capaldo s article

The Pros And Cons Of Technology And Science
Inventions and Discoveries
Human lifestyle has recently changed through the inventions and discovery of new technology
and science. Technology and science are closely related hence, the technology uses science to
answer problems, while science uses technology to come up with new discoveries. However,
technology and science target different objectives. The objective of science is to provide an
answer to the critical questions, thus help to increase knowledge while the goal of technology is
to find answers to real problems. Even though they have a different objective, they, however, work
together to facilitate each other to grow. The knowledge posed from science led to the creation of
technology like telescope while the telescope technology led to a microscope that allows
researchers to discover nature in a new era.
According to an article by Rice University, a telescope is one of the dominant instruments of what
has been referred to as the Scientific Revolution. However, according to the article, they believe
that telescope was not the invention of scientists but the product of craftsmen. Rice University
argue that glass were cheap, hence the technology for crushing and polishing glasses had
development extensively allover (Rice University). Hence, the development led to a solution for a
condition known as presbyopia. This condition majorly faced the aging where they were unable to
read letters held at a relaxed distance from the eye (Rice University). This led to the

Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct
Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an article published
in A Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on Religion Public life in January 2000.
This journal, which started from 1998, contains various articles with opinions, arguments, debates
and commentary on religious and moral questions, and social issues going in American society.
Thomas Sally, a poet and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs
them rough and not the toys that create them violent. She argues with various examples from her
friends and even from her own experience throughout the article making clear sense of support to
her argument. This article by Thomas Sally is a successful argument appealing toward its audience
with a clear and strong use of reasoning(logos), emotion(pathos) and authority(ethos) .Thomas Sally
s appeal to logicis the strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of
reasoning is strong due to the explanation of suitable examples from her real life experience on
the subject. Thomas Sally explains, by reasoning, at the beginning paragraphs that a boy enjoys
the warlike fascination of slashing shooting and even punching if they don t find anything.
Thomas Sally uses logos as, We don t tell someone struggling with lust simply not to want sex; we
don t tell a glutton that his problems will be solved if he stops being hungry. This is a clear logical

Washington Tsunami Scenarios
Scientists have projected possible tsunami scenarios for coastal Oregon and Washington, based on
the human impact of the 2004 Sumatra and 2011 Japan tsunami. An earthquake along the Cascadia
subduction zone could be as large as the one that hit Japan lastMarch, and the tsunami could reach
the coast in 20 minutes (National Geographic Society [NGS], 1996). The tsunamicould create a
massive catastrophe killing over 10,000 people during the summer since the evacuation centers
are sparse and some people have lower access to high ground (NGS, 1996). For instance, a resort
town named Ocean Shores lies on a low ground narrow peninsula and 5,500 people live there year

The Empire Of Shaka Zulu Empire
The Empire of Shaka Zulu
Sources are scarce on the Zulu Empire and Shaka s reign of it; there s only word of mouth stories
to go by, in addition to the pieces historians and anthropologists have been putting together for a
long time. What they do know, though, was that Shaka was born illegitimate to the royal family of
a minor tribe in South Africa. He was passed on to two other tribes, learning the martial art of their
time. He was able to show his strength in advanced combat tactics, in a time where people were
mostly pastoral. Through his rise and conquest, Shaka was able to change the culture of the people
he conquered and left behind, and was part of a series of events that ultimately transformed the
Zulu empire entirely. After living with the Elangeni with his mother for a while, Shaka moved
to live and train with the Mtethwa people, where he was able to show off his combat and
warfare prowess, first as a warrior, then as a leader of a regiment. Warfare at this time was ritual,
or to settle disputes, where tribes were invited to fight, and were mostly unorganized, using long
spears and insults, with no close combat. He brought in new tactics and styles, in addition to the
new, shorter spears he equipped his army with. After assassinating his older, legitimate heir
brother, Shaka took control of the tribe he was born into. A few years later, the person who was
his mentor and who he continued to serve under, was murdered. This set off the twenty five years

b) Why are astronomers using radio telescopes looking for far stars instead of a telescope?
First of all, what is a radio telescope? The first non visual spectral region that was used extensively
for astronomical observations was the radio frequency band. Telescopes observing at these
wavelengths are commonly called radio telescopes. Radio telescopes may be made much larger
than optical/infrared telescopes because the wavelengths of radio waves are much longer than
wavelengths of optical light. A rule of thumb is that the reflecting surface must not have
irregularities larger than about 1/5 the wavelength of light that is being focused. By that criterion a
radio telescope is several hundred thousand times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1000 foot reflector dish, also featured in the James Bond film, quot;Goldeneye, quot; is the
largest stationary radio telescope and most powerful radar in the world. Russell Hulse and Joseph
Taylor of Princeton University earned a Nobel Prize by using the dish in the 1970s to discover the
first pulsar in a binary system, confirming a prediction of Einstein s theory of general relativity.
In the early 1990s, Arecibo was used to detect the first planets outside the solar system. The dish
recently received a facelift in a $27 million upgrade which makes it four times more sensitive to
radio emissions from distant galaxies. The dish was used in the 1960s to chart accurately for the
first time the rate at which the planet Mercury rotates. More recently it studied ice in Mercury s
polar craters, the chemistry of Earth s upper atmosphere and rotating pulsars. The new upgrade will
let astronomers quot;hear quot; signals from much greater distances, and further back in time, than
before.
d) What is VLA? How does it work?
The VLA is an interferometer; this means that it operates by multiplying the data from each pair of
telescopes together to form interference patterns. The structure of those interference patterns, and
how they change with time as the earth rotates, reflect the structure of radio sources on the sky: we
can take these patterns and use a mathematical technique called the Fourier transform to make

1. About Pizza Hut
On June 15th, 1958, two brothers opened the first Pizza Hut restaurant in Wichita, Kansas (U.S.)
by purchasing second hand equipment and renting a small building on a busy cross road. The
concept was relatively new at the time and the brothers quickly saw the potential of this new
enterprise. A short time later, they begun to open new restaurants and developed schedules for
franchised outlets. Their chain started growing up very fast, ten years later Pizza Hut Inc. counted
almost 300 restaurants. In 1986, it had 5,025 domestic units and annual sales of almost $2 billion.
Half of the outlets were franchised. A Pizza Hut restaurant is characterized by a particular
freestanding design with a prominent red roof. The restaurants are full service, eat in/carryout with
about 60 to 90 seatings, open from 11 a.m. to midnight. Pizza HutВґs franchisees have special rights

The Assessment Of The Journals For Week 2 3
The assessment of the journals for week 2 3 that I studied had the following strengths and
limitations. The strengths of the experimental designs are: it has randomized controlled and real
life studies. Next, group populations such as women and minorities were used to test their studies.
Third, emphasis was laid on HIV/AIDS, weight loss, or fat intake. Moreover, the strengths outlined
with quasi experimental designs are a part of the pre test and post test in clinics for women and
children nutrition. Furthermore, the population becomes more responsive to fat reduction if
someone takes the initiative. According to Burger (2009), limitations given in the first journal

The reminder of this film made me realize that this tactic can cause psychological damage and
horror to the persons subjected to such experiments. Second, according to Hoff, Gregorich,
Grinstead (2008), limitations were generalized only to women attending family clinics. Because of
use of clinics in the trial study, an oversample might have occurred with regard to those whose
interests were in female initiated barrier needs. Third, the accuracy of data might have been
compromised by reliance on self reports (pg. 7). This study of limitations showed that women who
used or did not use condoms may or may not have increased safe sex practices with men. Third,
experimental design limitation described by VanWormer, Martinez, Benson, Crain found that
generalization of countries may appear to have differences in sampling approaches. Next, external
validity might affect the internal validity of the conclusion. Afterward, standardized procedures
seem to show some difference between countries that could not control (10). A sampling of surveys
found that social economics and psychological factors were important factors, but bigger
contributions such as age, gender, socioeconomic, and education levels affected the results
significantly depending on certain factors. Finally, Vilarruel, Cherry, Cabriales, Ronis (2008)

U.s. Involvement During The Korean War
US Involvement In the Korean War President Truman s desire to stop communism in the Korean
Peninsula resulted in the decision to join the Korean War. The catalyst for the United States
involvement in the Korean War is mostly due to the fear of the spread of communism, which was
caused by North Korea s encroachment and intimidation of South Korea, as well as the desire to
silence the Soviet Union. Other factors attributed to US involvement such as the Truman Doctrine,
the Domino Theory, and McCarthyism. The United States has a profound fear of communismand
honestly I think most, if not all, countries do as well. Communism according to Wikipedia, is a
social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of
the communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of
the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state. In plain terms, it
is a form of government in which no one owns anything, it all belongs to the state and everyone is
equal no one is above anyone else.
Now to some people that must give a euphoric feeling to have everyone equal. Well, the one deadly
factor that leads to disasters, anarchy, and deaths is us. The humans. Humans cannot live with
everyone being equal. We still have the biological need to make things ours and communism
disables the luxury of having private property and owning things in Kaminsky 2 general.

Cultural Relativism Vs Divine Command Theory
The biggest difference between Cultural Relativism and the Divine Command Theory is that
Divine Command Theory believes that rightness and morality is defined by and from God, Cultural
Relativism believes that rightness and morality is defined by cultures themselves.
Cultural Relativism is the idea that what is right and what is wrong depends on what culture you
live in. James Rachels in The Elements of Moral Philosophy used an example of Ancient Greeks
and the Callatians and their disposal of the dead. The Greeks believed that the most respectful way
to honor the dead is to cremate the body; the Callatians thought differently, they believe that the
most respectful way to honor the dead as to eat the body of the dead so that the family would

Essay on The Drowned and the Saved, by Primo Levi
In looking back upon his experience in Auschwitz, Primo Levi wrote in 1988: ?It is naГЇve, absurd,
and historically false to believe that an infernal system such as National Socialism (Nazism)
sanctifies its victims. On the contrary, it degrades them, it makes them resemble itself.? (Primo
Levi, The Drowned and the Saved, 40). The victims of National Socialism in Levi?s book are
clearly the JewishHaftlings. Survival in Auschwitz, a book written by Levi after he was liberated
from the camp, clearly makes a case that the majority of the Jews in the lager were stripped of their
human dignity. The Jewish prisoners not only went through a physical hell, but they were

for he who loses all often easily loses himself.? (Levi, 27).
The prisoners are further degraded because they simply do not have enough to eat. They become
very haggardly and often have difficulty in judging each other?s age. Acquisition of a sufficient
amount of food becomes a daily struggle, and for those who do not rise to the occasion
ultimately parish. After a certain time period, it is impossible to survive unless you become an
?Organisator, Kombinator, or a Prominent? (Levi, 89). Levi writes, ?We have learnt the value of
food; now we also diligently scrape the bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under
our chins when we eat bread so as not to lose the crumbs? (Levi, 33). A prisoner could only
survive on a normal ration for around 3 months at best. Starving to death was not the main reason
to acquire an adequate amount of food. The selections had to be avoided. If a prisoner was too
weak to work, he was destined for the gas chambers.
In the book Levi mentions a man named Elias, who is a cunning thief and adept worker: ?? who
is this man Elias. If he is a madman, incomprehensible and para human, who ended up in the Lager
by chance. If he is a atavism, different from our modern world, and better adapted to the primordial

Eastern Bluebird Research Paper
Bluebird Conservation
The Eastern Bluebird is an endangered species. Many people do not know that this type of bird
has been endangered. My group decided on this project because we feel a responsibility to
protect these beautiful birds and we also want to let other people know how to shield and shelter
them. As my classmates and I began researching this project, each person on our team was
delegated specific responsibilities. Helen Stout worked on the nest building construction of these
birds and we have handouts of the nesting box plans. We will also show the students the type of
food to feed the bluebirds. I, Thanh Canfield, worked on the board to demonstrate the details about
the project. Lupe has built the nest from wood for the sample. The steps we took in researching and
implementing this project included browsing different websites on the internet for relevant
information. We shared this information with each other via e mail. We also contacted Pauline
Tom, president of Texas BluebirdSociety, to collect more information through the booklet.
A large part of the written discussion will be demonstrated through showing each student outside
sources of information given to the public about these birds. One source, J.D. Lloyd, portrays the
bluebird in magnificent demonstration. Eastern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also a meaningful project to pursue people because these birds are endangered and they need
protection. The Eastern Bluebird is an imperative part of our environment mainly because they
consume insects. If these birds become extinct, many things will be out of symmetry. Back in the

expansion zones by humans. These beautiful birds however are coming back although slowly,
because people are starting to notice these birds and trying to preserve

Tower Of Babel

As I walked around the Grohmann Museum s Man at Work collection, I appreciated looking at the
great variety of all of man s work throughout time, and I analyzed the evolution of technology
throughout history. I thought the whole collection depicting man at work throughout history was
very interesting and informative. I saw quite a few paintings which interested me and that I could
write about.
The painting I choose to write about is Tower of Babel by Gillis van Vlackenborch. I choose this
painting because, as I walked around the Grohmann Museum and looked at all the paintings, the
Tower of Babel caught my eye by being a very large, detailed, and involved painting. The painting

If one were to be alive during the time of the building of the Tower of Babel, this painting may
very well be what it could have looked like to someone. The painting is extremely detailed and
each time you look at it, you can notice some new details. This painting depicts lots of people
working hard to finish building the Tower of Babel. You can see everyone in the painting
working extremely hard except the small group of people in the far right corner. In the right
corner of the painting there appears to be an architect or engineer holding a scroll with a picture
of the tower on it. The guy next to him might be someone important because he is wearing some
type of fancy hat and he is the only one in in the whole painting who is overweight. The main
focus of the painting is obviously the Tower of Babel. The tower is very large and in the middle
of the painting so when you look at it your attention is immediately drawn to the tower. The
painting doesn t have a great variety of color in it. Most of the colors are red or brown. The
whole painting is pretty dark except the sun trying to peak through the clouds in the upper right
hand corner of the painting. There seems to be a slightly inclined road the spirals up to the top of
the tower. My best guess for them building the tower with this inclined spiral road is for the easy

Transnational Corporations Essay
Transnational corporations are companies who s business activities have an influence on
economic, social, and environmental outcomes in more than one country. There are some
similarities in principles, expectations, and motives between countries regarding these matters,
however there are also some differences too. This makes it vital for companies to consider these
issues, in order to be socially responsible on an international scale as well as a national scale.
(Boddy 2012) states that corporate social responsibilityrefers to the awareness, acceptance and
management of the wider responsibilities of organisations . Producers and suppliers to
transnational corporations are in some cases regarded as a wider responsibility of transnational
corporations, as it is the dealings between the two parties that lights up a variety of topics to
review. The aim of this piece of work is to talk about the main factors that transnational
corporations need to consider when dealing with producers and suppliers, and their respective
communities, in order to be socially responsible, by reviewing previous literature of accredited
scholars and researchers. This involves the fairness of how transnational corporations deal with
producers and suppliers, and also, the thoughts towards exploitation of labour by suppliers in poor
countries.
Treating producers in a fair way is a topic, which many believe is a responsibility of transnational
corporations. The coffee sector is an example, where

Evaluation Of A Patient Clinical Pathway
EVALUATION OF A PATIENT CLINICAL PATHWAY IN A CLINICAL PHYSIOLOGY
DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION Health care professionals regularly request systematic
evidence based guidance to facilitate decision making in the provision of clinical care. For this,
adequate support from hospital management is needed to implement changes within sectors of the
NHS. An approach to the provision of such guidance is the use of clinical pathways as an
implementation tool. Clinical pathways are structured multidisciplinary care plans containing
detailed essential steps in the care of patients with specific problems (1). Overall, the degree of
impact they have on patient outcomes, length of hospital stay and costs appear to be favourable

In my opinion, it is advantageous to have such guidelines that are reviewed yearly ( Chest pain
of recent onset was reviewed in December 2014) as it ensures the best care is provided for the
patient, as well as highlighting areas of improvement for the multidisciplinary team. There are
of course drawbacks to such a system of management based on set guidelines, as they may not
always cater for all patients; examples of which will be discussed further on in this essay.
RAPID ACCESS CHEST PAIN CLINIC Prior to beginning the journey with my chosen patient, I
thought it was necessary to understand a little more about the RACPC itself and its significance
within the department. Being a medium sized department (maximum of 25 members of staff)
with one catheterization lab, I was expecting a sensible amount of demand for this service
considering the resources. I discovered that at times patients were waiting up to 6 weeks for an
appointment with the specialist nurse in the clinic, once the GP referral had been made. RACPC
is solely one person s responsibility and the clinic runs from Monday to Thursday every week in
the mornings. The nurse manages her own correspondence, so as well as having consultations with
up to 10 patients a day, she organises the diagnostic tests and writes up all the relevant paperwork.
The fact that the NICE guidelines recommend that patients should be seen within the first two
weeks of referral when assessing chest pain, suggests to me

Introduction Of Fluency Instruction On Fluency
Introduction to Fluency Instruction Fluency is another key component of reading, because
fluency has often been referred to as the bridge between phonics (decoding) and comprehension.
According to Hudson, Lane and Pullen (2005) fluency is one of the defining characteristics of
good readers, and lack of fluency is a common characteristic of poor readers (Hudson, Lane
Pullen, 2005, p. 702). Fluency is made up three different components accuracy, rate and prosody.
Rate refers to the speed or pace at which a student reads. Students should be readingat just right
pace not too fast or too slow. This helps students free processing space for students to determine the
meaning of a text. If student spends the whole time readingstruggling to decode the text, their brain
does not have enough processing space for comprehension. If students read too fast or too slow they
are concentrating more on the words than the actual meaning of the text. Accuracy is reading the
passage with little to no errors in text or meaning, this one reason why students must be able to
decode words accurately. Lastly, prosody refers to the student s ability to read with expression.
Students must pay attention to punctuation in a text and taking pauses, and influcation when
appropriate (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005 Rasinski, 2004). According to Rasinski (2004) fluency is
an important factor contributing to student s reading success. Strategies for Teaching Reading

American Resistance to British Policies before 1775
There were several ways in which the American Colonies resisted Imperial policy before 1775,
which led to the American Revolution. Britain s taxation and infringement of basic rights of the
colonists unified the colonies. Many significant events, including the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts
, the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, occurred before 1775.
In 1764, the British Parliament, under Prime Minister George Grenville, passed the Sugar Act, to
raise tax revenue for the Crown. Sugar from the West Indies was taxed. Colonists protested the
increased tax. After taxes on foreign sugar were lowered, protests were refueled by the Quartering
Act of 1765. This act required colonists to provide housing and food to British soldiers.
The next financial crisis for the colonists happened when Parliament enacted the Stamp Act. The
Stamp Act imposed a tax on commercial and legal documents. Marriage licences, newspapers, and
diplomas were included in the Stamp Act. The colonists formed the Stamp Act Congress, in which
nine of the colonies were represented by 27 leaders. At this point the colonists started to come
together when they realized that they were battling a common enemy. The colonists banded
together and stopped buying British goods. This angered British merchants and they too protested
the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. The next tax imposed was the Townshend Tea

Richard Speck Essay
On December 6th, 1941 the world welcomed Richard Benjamin Speck, who would become a well
known mass murderer. Speck, having a rather rough childhood, had an extensive criminal
background before committing the unspeakable murders that made him famous. After being found
guilty, Speck spent his remaining days in Chicago s Stateville Penitentiary. One can look at Richard
s personal history, crimeand criminal history to try and pin him to one criminological theory, when
in reality, none will really fit him to a T . He was a psychopath who was in great need of
psychological help, among other things.

Compare And Contrast Victor Frankenstein
Comparing and contrasting Victor and his monster is interesting, they both are similar and very
different. Victor and the monster he creates can be interpreted in several different ways. Victor
could be called a monster for creating a monster, for playing with god. Victor Frankenstein was a
man who created a monster our of pride and glory. Trifling with life and using grotesque means to
do so. Which in turn like the monster could easily make him to look like a monster. He had no
means of controlling this monster and completely let him get out of control. Thus came the murder

Life Goals Essay
Thomas Carlyle once said, Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you will see farther. I
strongly believe that if one plans on achieving his aspirations, setting goals is a very important
step. Having goals not only gives you a clear focus on things, but it also helps you to organize your
plans by allowing you to give yourself time limits and boundaries. That is why I try to set goals for
myself routinely, whether it is just for one day, or for the rest of my life. One goal that I work hard
at daily is to do well in high school. I try to involve myself in any activity that I can, both
academically and socially, so that I can graduate with honors. The reason I do this is because I plan

way, I will be able to donate money and give back to my community what they have given to me.
I also plan on adopting or fostering children after my own kids move out. I see my goals as
tangible, and they are well within my reach if I stretch my arms to touch them. I work hard for
these things not only to make a good life for myself, but to make a wonderful life for my future

Free Will
The Concept of Free Will Free will is the ability to make your choices in life without having any
consequences. We may feel the existence of free will until we start thinking and then figure out
there really is not. Thus, free will is nothing other than just an illusion. The moment a person is
born, they are confined to a land of law, a set biological makeup, and environmental factors that
are beyond their control. Hence, human beings do not have free will and ultimate responsibilities
thus the punishment for their misdeeds are not justifiable. A human can very well do what he
wants, but cannot will what he wants. Einstein. We, people, consider ourselves as a free being as

Hence, we are not responsible for our misdeeds as we do not have free will. Let us take an
example of a computer system. Computers do not have its user makes free will and all its
choices. For instance, the computer you just bought spending lot of money is affected by a
virus that duplicates your file and makes it accessible to other users within the network. Would
you shut it down and put it in your basement for its misdeed holding it responsible or take it to
the technician and get it fixed? Another thing to question would be, if one should be punished for
misdeeds if they are mentally ill. People that are mentally ill do not have the capability of
functioning in the society like most other people do. This is due to impairments of the brain that
is way beyond anyone s control. In some court cases, this disability is highly considered. If the
criminal does not have the free will to perform these misdeeds, how can they be held accountable

Ducati Group s Strategic Plan
Before to Ducati s acquisition by Texas Pacific Group, a deep financial crisis affected Ducati,
undermining its production and consequently negatively affecting its market results. Production
was less than production capacity and therefore it was clear that a relaunch of the company was
necessary. The strategic plan carried out by Ducati Group, with the help of newly appointed Minoli,
focused on the idea of increasing the company s value through a growth in turnover volume and
protection of product profit margins. One of the most interesting aspects of the changes embraced
by the Ducati, is the restructuring of the production system which began in the mid 1990s in order
to maintain the product margin and increase the level of sales and turnover.
Minoli found three things at Ducati when he arrived:
good products: unique and beautiful bikes, although regarded as less efficient and reliable in
comparison to Japanese models
top notch engineers: both in R D and for the racing division
a brand with a strong potential: in most European markets, Ducati s brand recognition and loyalty
was the highest in the motorcycle industry.
First, the aspiring team started off the transformation of Ducati s strategic plan by creating what
was called the World of Ducati , to support and develop the brand. This started with the decision to
build a museum, in order to show that Ducati was more than a motorcycle company; Ducati was a
dream and a passion. Through this Ducati was able to

Clever Tom Clinch Going To Be Hanged
Comparing A London Fete and Clever Tom Clinch Going to be Hanged
This essay will contrast the two poems A London Fete written by
Coventry Patmore and Clever Tom Clinch Going To Be Hanged by
Jonathan Swift. Both of these poems are about the hangings in the 17th 18th century. A London
Fete was written in the 18th century, whereas Clever Tom
Clinch was written in the 17th century. This could have made a slight variation in what the poet
had written because of the time variation.
For instance nowadays we are more civilised because of the new laws have been brought in.
Although both of the poems were written about hangings, A London Fete was more persistent on

I think that the crowd reacted the way they did is because everything adapts to its environment. So
going back to the title it s showing that the crowd is having a tremendous time.
The title Clever Tom Clinch is ironic because the word Clever is used to describe Tom Clinch. In
reality I believe that Tom Clinch is attempting to be clever whereas if he were intelligent he would
have never been caught in the first place. His waistcoat and stockings and breeches were white this
could have shown that he was witty because his garments were white which associates with an
angel. He considered that he could have swindled them into believing that he was innocent.
Jonathan Swift wrote the poem Clever Tom Clinch using swift and dexterous movements. He had
also used rhyming couplets throughout the poem. My opinion for why the poet decided to do this
is because when the reader is reading, he is reading in a continuous rhythm and flow.
This helps the reader to carry on reading. Clever Tom Clinch has been written in the form of a
ballad, which means that there is a narrator, which is telling you what is happening throughout the
poem. For instance, As Clever Tom Clinch, while the rabble was, rode stately through Holborn, to
die in his calling . The poet is telling us that
Tom Clinch was going through Holborn, and that the

In the first article Floods see Rat Population Explosion, this article explains why the rats

houses and garages are because of the cold weather, rainy downfall, and because of floods. The
rodents go up to the houses in order to get warm and dry areas in the house where they may have

Social Identity
There are multiple social identities a person holds such as race, sex, class and sexual orientation.
In each society there is typically a group within each of these categories that benefits from their
membership in that group, commonly referred to as the dominant group. Accordingly, there is a
group, or groups, that hurt from not being a part of the dominant group. While there are hundreds
of cultures and societies around the globe, many of the same groups consistently dominate within
an identity. An identity I have that falls under the privileged group within America is being white.
The benefits I have received from being apart of this social group have existed since I first entered
school at the age of four and I continue to benefit from them, under no fault or good behavior of
my own. In a previous HumanRelations course I took, we discussed the difference in how
dominant and subordinate groups go about their day to day life. One of the major differences
happens around the time a person enters school. An easy way to generally know if you belong
to a privileged group is to ask yourself if you ever had to be taught about what it means to belong
to that group. In other words, who has to be taught what it means to be born into the body they
were born into. As a white person growing up in middle class, Midwestern America, I was never

Egyptian Mummification Research Paper
Ancient Egyptian Mummification and Life after Death
Omnipresent in Egyptian life, religion was the basis of Ancient Egyptian civilization. A crucial
feature and driving force of Ancient Egyptian religion was the belief in life after death, or the
afterlife. The other world offered the same pleasures as those enjoyed on earth: friends, servants,
fishing, hunting, entertainment, and good food. It was presumed that death was simply a temporary
interruption of life and that eternal life was therefore attainable; eternal life could be ensured by
preserving the dead body. Egyptians believed that the body was the house for the soul and that
the spirit could only live on if the body was preserved forever. If the body was lost, so too was
the spirit. Mummification, the process by which the dead body is preserved, arose in response to
the yearning of an eternal life. Ancient Egyptian mummification was not simply the preservation of
the body as it had been in life, but it was also an opportunity to transform the dead body into a new
eternal body, a perfect image of the deceased. Through mummification to preserve the dead, Ancient

considered vital to one s afterlife and was an important process necessary for immortal existence.

The House on Mango Street and the Style of Sandra Cisneros
Clearly, Sandra Cisneros writing style is one representative of a minority voice. Her amazing
style allows her readers to take an active part in the minority experience. For this reason, I believe
Cisneros has had a lot of influence and success in the status of minority writers, especially in the
canon of what is read and taught in schools today. But, more than anything, Cisneros has shown
that liberation can come through creativity and literature, and not just through geographical
excursion.

In other words, Esperanza comes to understand that identity is very much beyond where one s
house is located. It may even be connected to art. In examining these profound themes, Cisneros has
been able to achieve a significant amount of influence and success in the role and status of minority
writers.
As stated previously, Cisneros style in The House on Mango Street suggests to us that liberation
can be achieved through an art form, rather than physically picking up and moving your
residence. Esperanza overcomes her condition by creating the realm of literature, rather than the
physical reality of another house in another time and place. In this way, she is able to distance
herself from her community and family. But all the while, still holding on to her heritage and
ethnicity. By affirming her own artistic ability, Esperanza is able to blend all of her dreams.
Because of this we come to understand that one can achieve self discovery and even independence
through something so remote as literature. This is where I find Cisneros influence the most
powerful. I believe she is stressing a theme here, not just for Hispanics, but for all minorities as
well. She lets them know that liberation can be achieved within several realms of the human
experience.
I believe that Cisneros demonstrates that individual values can and usually are socially constructed.

During the course of the novel, Rushdie uses the narrator, whom we assume to be Satan himself,
to illustrate to the reader why women are more inclined to not follow the strict rules of Islam,
and instead stray towards to devil because of better quality of life promised with the devil as
opposed to the demeaning and shameful life they lead in the religion of Islam. In the Mahound
chapter of The Satanic Verses, the narrator tells the story of Ibrahim and his wife and son, Hagar
and Ismail. He took them to a waterless wilderness (96) where he abandoned them, but before he
left Hagar asked him Can this be God s will? (96), and Ibrahim replied that it was. The narrator
says that men have always used God as an excuse to mistreat women in their lives and then goes
off on a tangent thinking to himself Small wonder, then, that women have turned to me (96).
This is where the reader can make the inference that the narrator is Satan because women are
turning to him and away from God and religion. They feel as though they are treated better by
the devil rather than God because the men in Islamic societies always justify the horrible things
they do to women by saying it is indeed God s will. Later on in the book in the chapter A City
Visible but Unseen Rushdie again shows the favoritism of males over females. When Hind gives

History Of The Stonewall Riots
Barely minutes after 3 AM on June 28th 1969, what had been a police raid on a known LGBT
club located in New York, known as the Stonewall Inn turned violent. Outside, hundreds of
protesters and sympathizers began rioting against the sudden police force. While the NYPD had
been justified in closing down the club, the events which would follow over the next six days
would go on to spark revolution, and establish the LGBTmovement for gaycivil rights. It is
inevitably because of these protests that the LGBT community has the rights and freedom that they
have today. However, the Stonewall Riots are not as recognized as a copious amount of protests
and revolts, and are a severely underrated historical event, which resulted in the removal of... Show

Shortly after this act, practicing sexual deviants enlisted within the U.S Civil Service had been
immediately fired after an investigation consisting of 192 suspects, most of which lost their
posts after the accusations. These investigations began after a myriad of Republican accusations
saying that the Federal civil service was a hotbed of sex perversion , (Belderman, The Observer
), and were initiated by then President Truman s administration. During this time, the ownership
of an alcohol license was immensely important, and could be revoked upon recognition that the
bar was disorderly . Up until the year 1967, selling alcohol to homosexuals could result in a bar
being deemed disorderly, thus closing it down. While the state of New York overturned this law,
a multitude of other states such as Miami maintained them, hence prohibiting the liquor licenses
to, knowingly sell to, serve to or allow consumption of alcoholic beverages by a homosexual
person, lesbian or pervert ... or to knowingly allow two or more persons who are homosexuals,
lesbians or perverts to remain in his place of business . However, the removal of this law in New
York did not stop the constant raids on rumoured gay bars and clubs, resulting in the abolishment of
these businesses alcohol licenses, and the arrest of countless individuals found inside. Those
arrested thought to be gay had their names published in reports and newspapers, ensuing a possible

Essay On Keeping The Drinking Age
Without a doubt, the United States has been facing serious national problems with underage
drinking. Depending on personal ideologies, some people might not agree that the current
minimum drinking age of twenty one is based on scientific facts rather then ideology of
prohibitionism. For example, since 1975 over seventeen thousand lives have been saved since the
minimum legal drinking age(MLDA) was changed to age twenty one (Balkin 167). This shows that
even over a short amount of time, a higher MLDA helps decrease the risk of teen suicides,
accidents and overdose deaths. However, this widely debated topic has inevitably brought attention
to the plethora of supporting and opposing viewpoints. The minimum legal drinking age of twenty

Simultaneously, accidents involving automobiles without a doubt are devastating. How would one
feel if a loved one was killed in a collision due to an intoxicated driver? Wouldn t the individual
want to do something about it? The death of the Candy Lightner s daughter lead to her development
of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act.
This act gave full federal highway funds only to states that set the minimum age to purchase or
consume alcohol at twenty one years (Sanghavi). Once all states raised their MLDA to twenty
one years, drunk driving accidents and deaths decreased. According to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, the reduction in traffic fatalities due to the legal drinking age of
twenty one prevented 846 deaths in 1997 and prevented a total of 17,359 deaths since 1975
(Balkin 168). This single statistic shows that automobile accidents have substantially decreased in
response to the authorization of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act. In addition, the average
teenager earns their drivers license at the age of seventeen. This being said, allowing a young
driver with only one years experience (excluding a learners permit) to legally consume alcohol
would surely be an irresponsible decision. Most people know

Effects Of Violence In Macbeth
Modern Macbeth: How Media Violence Affects Society
There seems to be so much violence in modern media that people are worried. It is believed that
it could be very dangerous that this violence being displayed to a public audience has become a
social norm, although, violence in media is definitely not a new idea. In Shakespeare s play,
Macbeth, Macbeth is a successful warrior who helps his country of Scotland defeat the
Norwegians. One day, Macbeth and his loyal best friend Banquo are walking when they hear three
witches speak about their futures. They stop to listen as the witches continue on about their bright
futures ahead, including the prophecies that Macbeth will become king as well as Banquo s sons.
After hearing this, Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, decide that they need to take matters into
their own hands and do whatever it takes to be king. Macbeth goes to the greatest extremes and
kills several people throughout his journey with the greedy goal to obtain more power. Violencehas
been around since even before Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, but it did not seem to be as big of an
issue as it is now. Violence in media can be really dangerous in many cases because of the effects
of people s attraction to fictional violence, the suggestion that violence has become acceptable over
time, and it is desensitizing the youth.
A large population of people seem to enjoy fictional violence whether it be a scary movie such as,
Psycho, or video games such as, Call of Duty. There

proceed to identify the sustainable competitive advantages of eBay using the resource based view
of the firm. The core competence of eBay will also be discussed. Through an overview of the

However, it should be noted that not all webhosting companies are able to host the colossal traffic
required by eBay. In addition, eBay would preferably choose a webhosting option that is reliable
and offers round the clock customer service since people conduct business over eBay round the
clock.
Next, there is a moderate threat of substitute services. More and more offline companies are
tapping on the vast potential of the online market through the creation of their online retail sites.
For example, if someone wants to get a Dell computer, he may choose to go to Dell s online store
to purchase it. However, the uniqueness of the online auction site is that almost everything under
the sun can be listed for sale. If a person is looking to buy something special, he can more often
than not find it listed on eBay.
Lastly, there is a great intensity of rivalry among the competitors in the industry. Because of the
potentially lucrative market in Asia, there are many competitors wanting a slice of the pie and that
includes search engine giant, Google. In China, Alibaba owned Taobao is already providing
intense competition by providing zero listing costs and providing customer service catered to the
needs of the local population[2]. In Korea, Gmarket is also providing intense competition by
continuously introducing new marketing initiatives such as the lucky lottery where buyers may be
able to purchase an item for 10% of its retail

Pamela Speed Alison Teichgraeber English 1301 October 10, 2010 A Look into the Life of Hip

of the American society. From the capitalist freedom that hip hop music embodies to the disjointed
families that plague this country, McBride explains that hip hop music has a place for everyone.

In his short overview of the origination of the Sugar Hill Gang in the mid 1970 s, the author
makes it apparent the hip hop grew out of necessity due to lack of funding in the art programs in
New York City school system. This neoclassical movement of the mid 1970 s grew like a
wildflower that sprouts through the cracks of a modern day concrete jungle. One of the more
interesting implications that are presented in the later parts of this essay is the economic
ramifications of the hip hop culture. McBride paints the picture of a lower income Caucasian
American teenager in Dayton, Ohio who finds truth in the story of hip hop. McBride notes:
Henry is a model American teenager and the prototypical consumer at which the hip hop
industry is squarely aimed, which has his parents sitting up in their seats. The music that was
once the purview of black America has gone white and gone commercial all at once. A sea of
white faces now rises up to greet rap groups as they perform, many of the teenagers like Henry, a
NASCAR fanatic and self described redneck (468) The connection that is drawn between the
formerly economically challenged rapper and the child whose parent works two jobs, and can t
pay his child s college tuition is paramount in making this point. The illusion of the American
dream is set through many hip hop songs. The picture of the evolution of the rags to riches story is
set by many rappers in current hip hop culture, this picture is the basic premise

Dotus Variation Lab Report
Introduction
For the past few weeks in Biology 107, the class has been touching on the subject of evolution and
how it is brought about through various processes. Evolution is a concept that has been researched
extensively for over a century now and continues to bring interesting findings day after day.
According to the Hardy Weinberg law (a principle that contributes to the understanding of evolution
) first introduced by Godfrey Hardy and Wilhelm Weinberg states that there are five possible agents
of evolutionary change, including: natural selection, genetic drift, mutations, gene flow, and
nonrandom mating. Nonetheless, the mechanism of interest for this particular lab is natural
selection. According to Mader, Natural Selection is the mechanism, ... Show more content on

Although this is only one case the results all seem to give a reasonable explanation to how this
simulation can be applied in natural environments. It is logical to assume that the phenotypes
(colors) that stand out in the environment (map) will most likely be the ones selected (eaten) by
predators. For example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection
pressure for the most part were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the
environment, more specifically the green and clear colors who most likely blended with the
grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were subjected to negative selection pressure were much of
the bright colored dots that stood out in the environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange,
and yellow colors. Furthermore, there are many similar documented cases and scenarios that go
to show that these types of results are likely in the wild. One example is that of the tadpole fish
who alter their body symmetry (the way they look) in response to predators. According to Herzog,
Rabus, Ribeiro and Laforsch (coauthors of Inducible Defenses with a Twist : Daphnia barbata
Abandons Bilateral Symmytry in Response to an Ancient Predator, ) the body torsion likely
contributes to the increased survival rate of Triops induced D.barbata. These two examples,

The Impact of Nazi Policies on the Position and Role of Women in Germany, 1933 39
The Nazi regime aimed to utilize the family for its own needs. Women were obligated to marry
and have children, instead of having their own personal decisions. The functions of the family were
reduced to the single task of reproduction. They aimed to break the family, and to place it as a
breeding and rearing institution completely in the service of the totalitarian state.
The main objective of Hitler and the Nazis was to increase population to help with

Those women who had been sterilised were not allowed to marry.
Another aspect of the Nazi ideology on women was that they wanted women to stay at the home.
The effect that this had on the position and role of women was that it limited their opportunities
and categorised them to a specific responsibility. However although this seemed to be a degrading
policy towards woman, which it was, Hitler did aim to make a point that women were just as
important as men, there was equality, the only difference being the roles which they played, which
were equally important. This did mean that some women felt more valued and appreciated in their
roles, especially as they could have stability and moderate prosperity. However the ideals set by
Hitler did include encouragement of birth outside marriage, which conflicted with the role of
women staying at home. The effects of the growth in female employment and the encouragement of
divorce to undesirables meant that the position and role of women diverged and was conflicted.
The role and position of a woman in Germany was to support her family as well, to nurture and
care for their children. The Nazi theory and policy was clear; Kinder, Kirche und Kuche (Children,

Substance And Substance Abuse Among Inmates
Substance Abuse among Inmates
Substance abuse can be a big problem in our criminal justice system when dealing with the
number of inmates who go back to their illegal activity after being released from custody. In
specific, inmates who are drug users/ abusers are to be expected to go back to drugs once they get
out. Without treatment they do not have the tools, knowledge, or resources to stay clean on the
outside when released. The biggest hazard for an ex inmate in the community is getting back to
their old life, old friends, old contacts, and old drugs. To understand why these substance abusers
are the way they are, there must be a clear emphasis on how these substances first evolved and
where they originally came from. Focusing on substance abuse among inmates at the federal and
state prison can be extremely different when in custody and the programs and treatment that is
provided in these prisons can really have a great effect on these offenders when being released
back into the community. Substance abuse can range from a small marijuana problem to a severe
heroin addiction. Substance abuse is defined as overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive
substance, especially alcohol or drugs. This is a huge issue in our society today and has been since
dated back to the earliest age of 1794 otherwise known as the 17th century. Alcohol was the first
substance that was allowed to be of consumption. Alcohol was the first substance that was

Pathogens Affecting The American Honey Bee
Fungi are pathogens considered to have a serious impact on honey bees health and mortality by
causing diseases. Nosemosis is one of the most dangerous diseases affecting the adult honey bee by
infecting epithelial cells coating the midgut. This disease is caused by Nosema apis and Nosema
ceranae which are intracellular microsporidian parasites from genus of Nosema. Studies point out
that transportation of honey bees, infected beekeepingmaterials, and practices of some beekeeping
migration are factors of Nosema s distribution. In addition, it has been demonstrated that some
vectors may carry Nosema spores. For example, it has been found that the regurgitated pellets of
the migratory bee eating bird Merops apiaster contained infective Nosema spores.... Show more

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Krabbe s Disease
Krabbe s disease has many signs and symptoms. There are three stages of this condition in infantile
form. Stage 1: The infant is seemingly normal and healthy for the first couple months after birth.
However during early onset of this disease, the child has signs of incoordination, vomiting,
irritability, unexplained fevers and stiff posture. Initial symptoms that may occur are seizures
(Wenger 2000). There is slight developmental regression and behavioral abnormalities, in particular,
displaying hypersensitivity to sound and touch (ORDR). Throughout this stage, the Cerebrspinal
Fluid (CSF) protein concentration at this point is significantly increased (Wenger 2000). The CSF
is a liquid that bathes the brain and spinal cord. Its function is to cushion the brain and spinal cord,
protecting against injury. It also circulates chemicals and certain nutrients that are filtered from the
blood and it also removes waste products from the brain (Lantos 2011).
The second stage of Krabbe s disease involves aplasia and hypoplasia, which is a defective
development of the abdominal wall musculature. There is also hypertonia, which is damage to the
Central Nervous System (CNS). The CNS is the brain and the spinal cord, which controls most of
the functions of the body and mind. There is also visual impairment, sensorineural hearing loss
(SNHL), cognitive impairment, and electromyography (EMG) abnormalities (ORDR). These
symptoms vary from person to person (Wenger 2000). Some less common

The Connotation Of Night In Night By Elie Wiesel
Nightlights, locked doors, and bedtime stories all evolved for protection against the unknown
horrors of the night. Humans have incessantly feared the darkness that follows the end of a day.
This dark, negative connotation of the word night is explored in Elie Wiesel s memoir, Night. In
this memoir, Wiesel, the protagonist and author, recounts his personal hardships as a Jewish victim
in the Holocaust. As a teenager, he was taken from his home and, through numerous concentration
camps, had a firsthand experience of genocide. Throughout the text, Wiesel uses many literary
devices in an attempt to convey his experiences. Perhaps most significant is his use of the concept
of night. In the memoir, Night, the title is used as a metaphor for the encompassing darkness that
surrounds suffering, the loss of faith, and the loss of humanity. The metaphor of night is established
through the darkness of suffering and torture of Wiesel and others around him. Throughout the
memoir, Wiesel is inhumanely starved, beaten, and tortured, while also witnessing the suffering and
death of innocent victims. The concept of night, both literally and figuratively, is consistently
attached to these moments of torment and anguish. The first use of the word night in the memoir
follows the start of Elie s encounter with the Holocaust. Following the impending deportation from
his home, Elie states that night had fallen (18). The use of night here is more than just literal; the
preceding torment of the Jews by the Germans and their forced evacuation illustrates that by stating
night has fallen, Wiesel is indicating that his suffering has begun. This is further exemplified by the
metaphorical use of night while he is forced to run from Buna to Gleiwitz. During this journey,
which is perhaps the worst of his suffering, Elie has to endure harsh conditions, starvation,
exhaustion, and the death of others. The extent of his agony is reflected in Elie s use of darkness
and night. Wiesel writes that the night was pitch black and that shots exploded out of the darkness
(85). The use of the words night and darkness conveys his suffering and misery. Furthermore, by
stating that the night was pitch black, Wiesel indicates that this

  • 2. Animal Vivisection Live animal dissection have been recorded in ancient Greek writings from as early as 500 BC. Vivisection (dissection of living organisms) was first practiced on humans in ancient Rome, but it was soon prohibited and thus the need for animal subjects. During the early stages of animal testing, Many philosophers debated on animal vivisection, Aristotle argued that animals lacked intelligence, and so the meaning of right and wrong had no meaning to them. Theophrastus, Aristotle s successor, disagreed and objected to the vivisection of animals on the idea that like humans, they can feel pain, and causing pain to animals was an insult to the gods. Descartes knew that animals could feel, but lacked a conscious, thus he argued that they were unable to consciously experience those feelings. Many others believed that animals were automata and that the way they experience pain and feelings is not the same as humans. Not until animals as pets were becoming more common did people start to really question the morality of animal vivisections, and thus, the birth of animal rights groups started popping up in 19th century England. Theodora Capaldo is president of the New England Anti Vivisection Society(NEAVS). An animal rights organization with a goal to end the use of animals in research, testing and science. NEAVS is dedicated to giving outreach and education for helping replace animals with more modern alternatives that are more efficient, ethical and humane. In Capaldo s article ... • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Technology And Science Inventions and Discoveries Human lifestyle has recently changed through the inventions and discovery of new technology and science. Technology and science are closely related hence, the technology uses science to answer problems, while science uses technology to come up with new discoveries. However, technology and science target different objectives. The objective of science is to provide an answer to the critical questions, thus help to increase knowledge while the goal of technology is to find answers to real problems. Even though they have a different objective, they, however, work together to facilitate each other to grow. The knowledge posed from science led to the creation of technology like telescope while the telescope technology led to a microscope that allows researchers to discover nature in a new era. According to an article by Rice University, a telescope is one of the dominant instruments of what has been referred to as the Scientific Revolution. However, according to the article, they believe that telescope was not the invention of scientists but the product of craftsmen. Rice University argue that glass were cheap, hence the technology for crushing and polishing glasses had development extensively allover (Rice University). Hence, the development led to a solution for a condition known as presbyopia. This condition majorly faced the aging where they were unable to read letters held at a relaxed distance from the eye (Rice University). This led to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis of The Killer Instinct Rhetorical analysis of The Killer Instinct (January 2000) The Killer Instinct is an article published in A Monthly Journal of Religion Public Life by Institute on Religion Public life in January 2000. This journal, which started from 1998, contains various articles with opinions, arguments, debates and commentary on religious and moral questions, and social issues going in American society. Thomas Sally, a poet and a writer, argues in the article that it s the nature of boys who constructs them rough and not the toys that create them violent. She argues with various examples from her friends and even from her own experience throughout the article making clear sense of support to her argument. This article by Thomas Sally is a successful argument appealing toward its audience with a clear and strong use of reasoning(logos), emotion(pathos) and authority(ethos) .Thomas Sally s appeal to logicis the strongest persuasive proof to her argument. The motive for her use of reasoning is strong due to the explanation of suitable examples from her real life experience on the subject. Thomas Sally explains, by reasoning, at the beginning paragraphs that a boy enjoys the warlike fascination of slashing shooting and even punching if they don t find anything. Thomas Sally uses logos as, We don t tell someone struggling with lust simply not to want sex; we don t tell a glutton that his problems will be solved if he stops being hungry. An earthquake along the Cascadia subduction zone could be as large as the one that hit Japan lastMarch, and the tsunami could reach the coast in 20 minutes (National Geographic Society [NGS], 1996). The tsunamicould create a massive catastrophe killing over 10,000 people during the summer since the evacuation centers are sparse and some people have lower access to high ground (NGS, 1996). For instance, a resort town named Ocean Shores lies on a low ground narrow peninsula and 5,500 people live there year round (NGS, 1996). • 6. The Empire Of Shaka Zulu Empire The Empire of Shaka Zulu Sources are scarce on the Zulu Empire and Shaka s reign of it; there s only word of mouth stories to go by, in addition to the pieces historians and anthropologists have been putting together for a long time. What they do know, though, was that Shaka was born illegitimate to the royal family of a minor tribe in South Africa. He was passed on to two other tribes, learning the martial art of their time. He was able to show his strength in advanced combat tactics, in a time where people were mostly pastoral. Through his rise and conquest, Shaka was able to change the culture of the people he conquered and left behind, and was part of a series of events that ultimately transformed the Zulu empire entirely. After living with the Elangeni with his mother for a while, Shaka moved to live and train with the Mtethwa people, where he was able to show off his combat and warfare prowess, first as a warrior, then as a leader of a regiment. Warfare at this time was ritual, or to settle disputes, where tribes were invited to fight, and were mostly unorganized, using long spears and insults, with no close combat. He brought in new tactics and styles, in addition to the new, shorter spears he equipped his army with. After assassinating his older, legitimate heir brother, Shaka took control of the tribe he was born into. A few years later, the person who was his mentor and who he continued to serve under, was murdered. This set off the twenty five years long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Contact Essay b) Why are astronomers using radio telescopes looking for far stars instead of a telescope? First of all, what is a radio telescope? The first non visual spectral region that was used extensively for astronomical observations was the radio frequency band. Telescopes observing at these wavelengths are commonly called radio telescopes. Radio telescopes may be made much larger than optical/infrared telescopes because the wavelengths of radio waves are much longer than wavelengths of optical light. A rule of thumb is that the reflecting surface must not have irregularities larger than about 1/5 the wavelength of light that is being focused. By that criterion a radio telescope is several hundred thousand times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1000 foot reflector dish, also featured in the James Bond film, quot;Goldeneye, quot; is the largest stationary radio telescope and most powerful radar in the world. Russell Hulse and Joseph Taylor of Princeton University earned a Nobel Prize by using the dish in the 1970s to discover the first pulsar in a binary system, confirming a prediction of Einstein s theory of general relativity. In the early 1990s, Arecibo was used to detect the first planets outside the solar system. The dish recently received a facelift in a $27 million upgrade which makes it four times more sensitive to radio emissions from distant galaxies. The dish was used in the 1960s to chart accurately for the first time the rate at which the planet Mercury rotates. More recently it studied ice in Mercury s polar craters, the chemistry of Earth s upper atmosphere and rotating pulsars. The new upgrade will let astronomers quot;hear quot; signals from much greater distances, and further back in time, than before. d) What is VLA? How does it work? The VLA is an interferometer; this means that it operates by multiplying the data from each pair of telescopes together to form interference patterns. The structure of those interference patterns, and how they change with time as the earth rotates, reflect the structure of radio sources on the sky: we can take these patterns and use a mathematical technique called the Fourier transform to make ... The strengths of the experimental designs are: it has randomized controlled and real life studies. Next, group populations such as women and minorities were used to test their studies. Third, emphasis was laid on HIV/AIDS, weight loss, or fat intake. Moreover, the strengths outlined with quasi experimental designs are a part of the pre test and post test in clinics for women and children nutrition. Furthermore, the population becomes more responsive to fat reduction if someone takes the initiative. The reminder of this film made me realize that this tactic can cause psychological damage and horror to the persons subjected to such experiments. Second, according to Hoff, Gregorich, Grinstead (2008), limitations were generalized only to women attending family clinics. Because of use of clinics in the trial study, an oversample might have occurred with regard to those whose interests were in female initiated barrier needs. Third, the accuracy of data might have been compromised by reliance on self reports (pg. 7). This study of limitations showed that women who used or did not use condoms may or may not have increased safe sex practices with men. Third, experimental design limitation described by VanWormer, Martinez, Benson, Crain found that generalization of countries may appear to have differences in sampling approaches. Next, external validity might affect the internal validity of the conclusion. Afterward, standardized procedures seem to show some difference between countries that could not control (10). A sampling of surveys found that social economics and psychological factors were important factors, but bigger contributions such as age, gender, socioeconomic, and education levels affected the results significantly depending on certain factors. • 12. U.s. Involvement During The Korean War US Involvement In the Korean War President Truman s desire to stop communism in the Korean Peninsula resulted in the decision to join the Korean War. The catalyst for the United States involvement in the Korean War is mostly due to the fear of the spread of communism, which was caused by North Korea s encroachment and intimidation of South Korea, as well as the desire to silence the Soviet Union. Other factors attributed to US involvement such as the Truman Doctrine, the Domino Theory, and McCarthyism. The United States has a profound fear of communismand honestly I think most, if not all, countries do as well. Communism according to Wikipedia, is a social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of the communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state. In plain terms, it is a form of government in which no one owns anything, it all belongs to the state and everyone is equal no one is above anyone else. Now to some people that must give a euphoric feeling to have everyone equal. Well, the one deadly factor that leads to disasters, anarchy, and deaths is us. The humans. Humans cannot live with everyone being equal. We still have the biological need to make things ours and communism disables the luxury of having private property and owning things in Kaminsky 2 general. Communism itself isn t a ... • 13. Cultural Relativism Vs Divine Command Theory The biggest difference between Cultural Relativism and the Divine Command Theory is that Divine Command Theory believes that rightness and morality is defined by and from God, Cultural Relativism believes that rightness and morality is defined by cultures themselves. Cultural Relativism is the idea that what is right and what is wrong depends on what culture you live in. James Rachels in The Elements of Moral Philosophy used an example of Ancient Greeks and the Callatians and their disposal of the dead. The Greeks believed that the most respectful way to honor the dead is to cremate the body; the Callatians thought differently, they believe that the most respectful way to honor the dead as to eat the body of the dead so that the family would ... • 14. Essay on The Drowned and the Saved, by Primo Levi In looking back upon his experience in Auschwitz, Primo Levi wrote in 1988: ?It is naГЇve, absurd, and historically false to believe that an infernal system such as National Socialism (Nazism) sanctifies its victims. On the contrary, it degrades them, it makes them resemble itself.? (Primo Levi, The Drowned and the Saved, 40). The victims of National Socialism in Levi?s book are clearly the JewishHaftlings. Survival in Auschwitz, a book written by Levi after he was liberated from the camp, clearly makes a case that the majority of the Jews in the lager were stripped of their human dignity. The Jewish prisoners not only went through a physical hell, but they were psychologically driven under as well. Levi writes, ??the Lager was a great... They become very haggardly and often have difficulty in judging each other?s age. Acquisition of a sufficient amount of food becomes a daily struggle, and for those who do not rise to the occasion ultimately parish. After a certain time period, it is impossible to survive unless you become an ?Organisator, Kombinator, or a Prominent? (Levi, 89). Levi writes, ?We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not to lose the crumbs? (Levi, 33). A prisoner could only survive on a normal ration for around 3 months at best. Starving to death was not the main reason to acquire an adequate amount of food. The selections had to be avoided. If a prisoner was too weak to work, he was destined for the gas chambers. In the book Levi mentions a man named Elias, who is a cunning thief and adept worker: ?? who is this man Elias. • 15. Eastern Bluebird Research Paper Bluebird Conservation The Eastern Bluebird is an endangered species. Many people do not know that this type of bird has been endangered. My group decided on this project because we feel a responsibility to protect these beautiful birds and we also want to let other people know how to shield and shelter them. As my classmates and I began researching this project, each person on our team was delegated specific responsibilities. Helen Stout worked on the nest building construction of these birds and we have handouts of the nesting box plans. We will also show the students the type of food to feed the bluebirds. I, Thanh Canfield, worked on the board to demonstrate the details about the project. Lupe has built the nest from wood for the sample. The steps we took in researching and implementing this project included browsing different websites on the internet for relevant information. We shared this information with each other via e mail. We also contacted Pauline Tom, president of Texas BluebirdSociety, to collect more information through the booklet. A large part of the written discussion will be demonstrated through showing each student outside sources of information given to the public about these birds. One source, J.D. Lloyd, portrays the bluebird in magnificent demonstration. Eastern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. Tower Of Babel Art Essay As I walked around the Grohmann Museum s Man at Work collection, I appreciated looking at the great variety of all of man s work throughout time, and I analyzed the evolution of technology throughout history. I thought the whole collection depicting man at work throughout history was very interesting and informative. I saw quite a few paintings which interested me and that I could write about. The painting I choose to write about is Tower of Babel by Gillis van Vlackenborch. I choose this painting because, as I walked around the Grohmann Museum and looked at all the paintings, the Tower of Babel caught my eye by being a very large, detailed, and involved painting. If one were to be alive during the time of the building of the Tower of Babel, this painting may very well be what it could have looked like to someone. The painting is extremely detailed and each time you look at it, you can notice some new details. This painting depicts lots of people working hard to finish building the Tower of Babel. You can see everyone in the painting working extremely hard except the small group of people in the far right corner. In the right corner of the painting there appears to be an architect or engineer holding a scroll with a picture of the tower on it. The guy next to him might be someone important because he is wearing some type of fancy hat and he is the only one in in the whole painting who is overweight. The main focus of the painting is obviously the Tower of Babel. The tower is very large and in the middle of the painting so when you look at it your attention is immediately drawn to the tower. The painting doesn t have a great variety of color in it. Most of the colors are red or brown. The whole painting is pretty dark except the sun trying to peak through the clouds in the upper right hand corner of the painting. There seems to be a slightly inclined road the spirals up to the top of the tower. My best guess for them building the tower with this inclined spiral road is for the easy transportation of building supplies and materials to the top of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Transnational Corporations Essay Transnational corporations are companies who s business activities have an influence on economic, social, and environmental outcomes in more than one country. There are some similarities in principles, expectations, and motives between countries regarding these matters, however there are also some differences too. This makes it vital for companies to consider these issues, in order to be socially responsible on an international scale as well as a national scale. (Boddy 2012) states that corporate social responsibilityrefers to the awareness, acceptance and management of the wider responsibilities of organisations . Producers and suppliers to transnational corporations are in some cases regarded as a wider responsibility of transnational corporations, as it is the dealings between the two parties that lights up a variety of topics to review. The aim of this piece of work is to talk about the main factors that transnational corporations need to consider when dealing with producers and suppliers, and their respective communities, in order to be socially responsible, by reviewing previous literature of accredited scholars and researchers. This involves the fairness of how transnational corporations deal with producers and suppliers, and also, the thoughts towards exploitation of labour by suppliers in poor countries. Treating producers in a fair way is a topic, which many believe is a responsibility of transnational corporations. The coffee sector is an example, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluation Of A Patient Clinical Pathway EVALUATION OF A PATIENT CLINICAL PATHWAY IN A CLINICAL PHYSIOLOGY DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION Health care professionals regularly request systematic evidence based guidance to facilitate decision making in the provision of clinical care. For this, adequate support from hospital management is needed to implement changes within sectors of the NHS. An approach to the provision of such guidance is the use of clinical pathways as an implementation tool. Clinical pathways are structured multidisciplinary care plans containing detailed essential steps in the care of patients with specific problems (1). In my opinion, it is advantageous to have such guidelines that are reviewed yearly ( Chest pain of recent onset was reviewed in December 2014) as it ensures the best care is provided for the patient, as well as highlighting areas of improvement for the multidisciplinary team. There are of course drawbacks to such a system of management based on set guidelines, as they may not always cater for all patients; examples of which will be discussed further on in this essay. RAPID ACCESS CHEST PAIN CLINIC Prior to beginning the journey with my chosen patient, I thought it was necessary to understand a little more about the RACPC itself and its significance within the department. Being a medium sized department (maximum of 25 members of staff) with one catheterization lab, I was expecting a sensible amount of demand for this service considering the resources. I discovered that at times patients were waiting up to 6 weeks for an appointment with the specialist nurse in the clinic, once the GP referral had been made. RACPC is solely one person s responsibility and the clinic runs from Monday to Thursday every week in the mornings. The nurse manages her own correspondence, so as well as having consultations with up to 10 patients a day, she organises the diagnostic tests and writes up all the relevant paperwork. The fact that the NICE guidelines recommend that patients should be seen within the first two weeks of referral when assessing chest pain, suggests to me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Introduction Of Fluency Instruction On Fluency Introduction to Fluency Instruction Fluency is another key component of reading, because fluency has often been referred to as the bridge between phonics (decoding) and comprehension. According to Hudson, Lane and Pullen (2005) fluency is one of the defining characteristics of good readers, and lack of fluency is a common characteristic of poor readers (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005, p. 702). Fluency is made up three different components accuracy, rate and prosody. Rate refers to the speed or pace at which a student reads. Students should be readingat just right pace not too fast or too slow. This helps students free processing space for students to determine the meaning of a text. If student spends the whole time readingstruggling to decode the text, their brain does not have enough processing space for comprehension. If students read too fast or too slow they are concentrating more on the words than the actual meaning of the text. Accuracy is reading the passage with little to no errors in text or meaning, this one reason why students must be able to decode words accurately. Lastly, prosody refers to the student s ability to read with expression. Students must pay attention to punctuation in a text and taking pauses, and influcation when appropriate (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005 Rasinski, 2004). According to Rasinski (2004) fluency is an important factor contributing to student s reading success. Strategies for Teaching Reading Fluency A strategy for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. American Of British Policies After 1775 nformative Writing American Resistance to British Policies before 1775 There were several ways in which the American Colonies resisted Imperial policy before 1775, which led to the American Revolution. Britain s taxation and infringement of basic rights of the colonists unified the colonies. Many significant events, including the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts , the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, occurred before 1775. In 1764, the British Parliament, under Prime Minister George Grenville, passed the Sugar Act, to raise tax revenue for the Crown. Sugar from the West Indies was taxed. Colonists protested the increased tax. After taxes on foreign sugar were lowered, protests were refueled by the Quartering Act of 1765. This act required colonists to provide housing and food to British soldiers. The next financial crisis for the colonists happened when Parliament enacted the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act imposed a tax on commercial and legal documents. Marriage licences, newspapers, and diplomas were included in the Stamp Act. The colonists formed the Stamp Act Congress, in which nine of the colonies were represented by 27 leaders. At this point the colonists started to come together when they realized that they were battling a common enemy. The colonists banded together and stopped buying British goods. This angered British merchants and they too protested the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. The next tax imposed was the Townshend Tea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ducati Group s Strategic Plan Before to Ducati s acquisition by Texas Pacific Group, a deep financial crisis affected Ducati, undermining its production and consequently negatively affecting its market results. Production was less than production capacity and therefore it was clear that a relaunch of the company was necessary. The strategic plan carried out by Ducati Group, with the help of newly appointed Minoli, focused on the idea of increasing the company s value through a growth in turnover volume and protection of product profit margins. One of the most interesting aspects of the changes embraced by the Ducati, is the restructuring of the production system which began in the mid 1990s in order to maintain the product margin and increase the level of sales and turnover. Minoli found three things at Ducati when he arrived: good products: unique and beautiful bikes, although regarded as less efficient and reliable in comparison to Japanese models top notch engineers: both in R D and for the racing division a brand with a strong potential: in most European markets, Ducati s brand recognition and loyalty was the highest in the motorcycle industry. In reality I believe that Tom Clinch is attempting to be clever whereas if he were intelligent he would have never been caught in the first place. He considered that he could have swindled them into believing that he was innocent. Jonathan Swift wrote the poem Clever Tom Clinch using swift and dexterous movements. He had also used rhyming couplets throughout the poem. My opinion for why the poet decided to do this is because when the reader is reading, he is reading in a continuous rhythm and flow. This helps the reader to carry on reading. A crucial feature and driving force of Ancient Egyptian religion was the belief in life after death, or the afterlife. The other world offered the same pleasures as those enjoyed on earth: friends, servants, fishing, hunting, entertainment, and good food. It was presumed that death was simply a temporary interruption of life and that eternal life was therefore attainable; eternal life could be ensured by preserving the dead body. Egyptians believed that the body was the house for the soul and that the spirit could only live on if the body was preserved forever. If the body was lost, so too was the spirit. Mummification, the process by which the dead body is preserved, arose in response to the yearning of an eternal life. • 37. Essay on The House on Mango Street and the Style of... The House on Mango Street and the Style of Sandra Cisneros Clearly, Sandra Cisneros writing style is one representative of a minority voice. Her amazing style allows her readers to take an active part in the minority experience. For this reason, I believe Cisneros has had a lot of influence and success in the status of minority writers, especially in the canon of what is read and taught in schools today. But, more than anything, Cisneros has shown that liberation can come through creativity and literature, and not just through geographical excursion. Cisneros The House on Mango Street is a novel about the importance of not forgetting where you come from. Esperanza, a young Latino girl and the story s main character, wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, Esperanza comes to understand that identity is very much beyond where one s house is located. It may even be connected to art. In examining these profound themes, Cisneros has been able to achieve a significant amount of influence and success in the role and status of minority writers. As stated previously, Cisneros style in The House on Mango Street suggests to us that liberation can be achieved through an art form, rather than physically picking up and moving your residence. Esperanza overcomes her condition by creating the realm of literature, rather than the physical reality of another house in another time and place. In this way, she is able to distance herself from her community and family. But all the while, still holding on to her heritage and ethnicity. By affirming her own artistic ability, Esperanza is able to blend all of her dreams. Because of this we come to understand that one can achieve self discovery and even independence through something so remote as literature. This is where I find Cisneros influence the most powerful. I believe she is stressing a theme here, not just for Hispanics, but for all minorities as well. She lets them know that liberation can be achieved within several realms of the human experience. I believe that Cisneros demonstrates that individual values can and usually are socially constructed. As critic Ellen McKracken writes, the volume s simple, poetic language, with its ... During the course of the novel, Rushdie uses the narrator, whom we assume to be Satan himself, to illustrate to the reader why women are more inclined to not follow the strict rules of Islam, and instead stray towards to devil because of better quality of life promised with the devil as opposed to the demeaning and shameful life they lead in the religion of Islam. In the Mahound chapter of The Satanic Verses, the narrator tells the story of Ibrahim and his wife and son, Hagar and Ismail. He took them to a waterless wilderness (96) where he abandoned them, but before he left Hagar asked him Can this be God s will? (96), and Ibrahim replied that it was. The narrator says that men have always used God as an excuse to mistreat women in their lives and then goes off on a tangent thinking to himself Small wonder, then, that women have turned to me (96). This is where the reader can make the inference that the narrator is Satan because women are turning to him and away from God and religion. They feel as though they are treated better by the devil rather than God because the men in Islamic societies always justify the horrible things they do to women by saying it is indeed God s will. It is believed that it could be very dangerous that this violence being displayed to a public audience has become a social norm, although, violence in media is definitely not a new idea. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, Macbeth is a successful warrior who helps his country of Scotland defeat the Norwegians. One day, Macbeth and his loyal best friend Banquo are walking when they hear three witches speak about their futures. They stop to listen as the witches continue on about their bright futures ahead, including the prophecies that Macbeth will become king as well as Banquo s sons. After hearing this, Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, decide that they need to take matters into their own hands and do whatever it takes to be king. Macbeth goes to the greatest extremes and kills several people throughout his journey with the greedy goal to obtain more power. Violencehas been around since even before Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, but it did not seem to be as big of an issue as it is now. Violence in media can be really dangerous in many cases because of the effects of people s attraction to fictional violence, the suggestion that violence has become acceptable over time, and it is desensitizing the youth. For example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection pressure for the most part were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the environment, more specifically the green and clear colors who most likely blended with the grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were subjected to negative selection pressure were much of the bright colored dots that stood out in the environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange, and yellow colors.
