The document discusses the technologies used to create a film project. It summarizes the use of new HD cameras, tripods, dollies, iMacs for editing, lighting rigs, and software like iMovie and GarageBand. It describes how these tools helped capture better quality footage and create special effects, though some required troubleshooting issues like battery life, memory cards filling up, and bumpy movement on the dolly. The document evaluates how the new equipment helped improve the project compared to previous work with older cameras and limitations of the software.

1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product ?
2. Cameras
We used brand new cameras for this task. The cameras were in HD and helped us to create a
better quality for the final outcome. The new cameras allowed us to put the SD card straight into
the macs and operate straight from them. The disadvantage to using the new cameras was that
because they use a lot of battery to operate if you forget to charge the camera it takes a very long
time to recharge it up.
We had this problem so we had to go home and recharge the camera and then to re film another
day. The other problems we faced was that the SD card was full however to overcome this we
just deleted something off the card and film only bits we were going to use.
This new equipment helped us compared to our preliminary task we had to use the old cameras
and they were difficult so this new equipment helped us a lot.
3. Tripod and the Dolly
• The tripod allowed us to shoot scenes that we wanted
without shaking. This allowed us to shoot scenes at a low
level and effectively with no shaking.
• The dolly is a new piece of equipment that the school had
bought and one of the shots we used it for. This shot has
been one of our best shots as it is unique and when
watching it looks very effective.
• The dolly had parts in the middle and we found a problem
with it bumping when it went from post to post. We then
pushed the two parts together to create a secure lock
between the two poles. This helped us to shoot that shot
without it bumping and shaking.
4. I Macs and Websites
• The I macs were a good tool for us to use as we could edit our films. The iMacs were new to
the school two years ago. They are great to use because they are very quick to operate and
had all the software needed to edit and post our videos and other things online.
• They were good for podcasting as they had a very good microphone built in for us to use.
However they had some let downs as when you needed to find your movie file you would
have to load up on the same mac every time.
• We used the site blogger to upload everything for our blogs this was easier as it allowed us to
use different types of media to vary what we were producing. For example you would never
be able to put a video on an A3 folder. This allowed us to use different presentational
devices.
• We used YouTube to upload our videos and our construction posts it was a good tool as it
allowed us to upload a lot of footage however it was difficult to upload in school because the
macs wouldn’t allow us to upload. However all we did to counter this was to upload our stuff
at home.
5. Lighting
We used the new lighting rig to do the scene where tom gets flashing lights on his face. This was
a good piece of equipment as it had pre-set flashes so all we had to do was set the colours up
with the gels and then film him In the chair.
We had some problems at the start as we didn’t know how to use them however with trial and
error we managed how to work out the flashing part of the lights and we were able to use them.
6. Editing
• The editing was done on a software called I movie it was a software that was on the iMac.
The process of adding the clips together was very simple to operate.
• We learnt many effects within I movie and in the scenes where tom is going crazy we filmed
that in real time and speed it up using the inbuilt fast-forward editing tool. We used
transitions which were on iMovie to increase effect when doing the jump cuts. It had an
effect to change the colour of the film and for the last part that was very effective.
• We had a problem with the titles because we exported it with the titles then as we went to
change them we couldn’t as they were embedded into the film. To counter this we had to re
edit the bits with the raw footage and replace the same bit of film with titles into the film
without titles.
7. Sound
The sound that we used in the film was produced on Garageband or was default on the iMovie
program. For the twig snap we used a natural twig and then snapped it and recorded it on
Garageband on the macs.
The sound that you hear screeching was created by accident and it came from when we were
talking during the filming of toms crazy scene in the lights. When we speed it up it sounded like
that. We decided to use this sound in our opening and it works very well to build a loud and
annoying sound.
