Preliminary task evaluation

       By Josh Thorley
How effective was the pre-production
 workflow for your preliminary task?
• As a group of 2, me and my partner Deet Bains
worked together well to voice both of our views and
to create a general idea of what our preliminary task
would be. We planned it thoroughly by looking at
each topic, for example, mise-en-scene, props etc .
Also, the use of creating storyboards helped us
create a better image of what our final piece would
look like. However I feel we could of brainstormed
more idea’s so we could have various choices of
locations to choose from instead of our 2.
What did we use to film our
            preliminary task?
• For when we were filming, we decided to use an Ipad
to film our preliminary task, we decided to use this
as its a quick and simple way of filming good, quality
clips. One downfall of using the Ipad was that the
sound wasn’t good as it picked up background noise
which didn’t sound good on our final edit.
What did I learn from filming that I will
       use in future projects?
• What I learnt was that you have to pick the right
location which doesn’t have too much light exposure
as it will make it difficult to see, also, if I was to film
in the future with an Ipad, I would use a tripod as its
extremely hard to keep the Ipad still and that makes
the clip look messy and unprofessional.
What did I use to edit my preliminary
                 task?
• As we used the Macs to edit our clips, we used the
best software on the Macs which is called iMovie. I
movie is excellent for editing our films as you are
able to edit it in a wide variety of ways, for example,
add music, trim clips and add effects. I think because
we used iMovie our final preliminary task our mark
would of improved as overall it helped us put
together a much better movie to what it would of
been if we used windows movie maker for example.
Does our preliminary task meet its
               criteria?
• I feel overall, our final piece met the criteria chosen,
this is because we used a variety of filming
techniques such as crane shot and the shot/reverse
shot (behind shoulder shot) and also a variety of
camera shots including extreme close-up and long
  shot.
Overall, what have you learnt from the
   process of completing the preliminary
                   task?
• Throughout the process of planning and filming
our preliminary task, I have learnt different ways
of filming including shot/reverse shot and also
the crane shot, which we included in our video. I
have also learnt mostly all the camera shots
including long shot, extreme long shot, close up,
extreme close-up etc. The thing I have learnt
most throughout the process is editing the clips
through iMovie, I have learnt all the basic tricks
and some more harder tricks, I feel this will help
  me in future filming.
