This document outlines 20 habits that can hold people back from being successful and proposes methods for overcoming them. It identifies habits like always needing to win, passing judgment, refusing to apologize, and failing to recognize others. The document then recommends a 7-step process for changing interpersonal relationships through getting feedback, apologizing, listening, and following up. It also provides 8 rules for handling change, such as focusing on the right things to change, not hiding from the truth, and acting now rather than later.
In this book, Marshall Goldsmith begins by examining the trouble with
success, explaining how previous accomplishments often prevent leaders
from gaining more success. He analyzes why high achievers are so resistant
to change due to their delusion of success, pointing out that they can’t see
that what got them here won’t get them there.
These are people who do one annoying thing repeatedly on the job and don’t realize that this small flaw may sabotage their otherwise golden career. Worse yet, they do not realize that it’s happening and that they can fix it. Goldsmith details the 20 habits that hold you back from the top rung of the corporate ladder. In his experience, these are the most irritating interpersonal issues in the workplace. For each habit, he gives examples
and practical solutions you can implement. He then describes the 21st habit, which stands separate from the other 20 habits –– not because it is a flaw, but because it is often the root of an annoying behavior.
Finally, Goldsmith addresses the problem of how you can change your interpersonal relationships for the better, and ensure that you make your behavioral changes permanent.
This summary reveals how you can identify which of these 20 habits apply to you, and how to choose the one or two you should focus on.
In addition, you will learn:
The four key beliefs that make you successful but also resistant to change.
Why the higher you go, the more your problems are behavioral.
Why the 21st habit, goal obsession, may be the most destructive of all.
How to get good 360-degree feedback from your colleagues on your own.
How to overcome special challenges if you’re the one in charge at the workplace.

The Day I Realized I Was Not Yet An Agile Coach : Presented by Sylvain MaheoGuild .
I remember that morning, 6 or 7 years ago. I had been practicing Agile for a couple of years and I had decided to update my LinkedIn profile. I opened my profile, edited my headline and replaced “Scrum Master” with “Agile Coach”.
That was a lie. But I didn’t know it at that time. I really believed I had become a coach. In reality I was a consultant, a trainer, sometimes a mentor.
A few years later I decided to go back to school -a coaching school- and it changed my life.
In this talk, I shared my personal journey to become an (Agile) Coach and shared what I’ve learned along the way:
• What is the difference between consulting, training, coaching and why we should care?
• Why by calling ourselves coaches we are not doing any good to the coach profession?
• What can we do about it?
• How did I become a coach?
• What are my coaching tools?
• Does your organization really need a coach?

A brilliant proverb describing how to build the optimal team "choose your companions before you choose your road".and thats such a true saying, teams are a delicate beast.ideally each member shares a common goal, whether it be winning a race or completing a project.the selflessness and pasion embodied in a groupof people striving for achievement is wondorous.Positive energy emanates from their labors, breeding high standards and astounding productivity. There is no limit to what a great team can accomplish, like a rope:together as one united, consisting of the highest human material:to build that great dynamic individuals willing to work long hours,to motivate them when the inevitable.Human nature can lead to a team s downfall whether from disinterist, laziness,or the dozen of other daily emotions coursing through disparate individuals.Honestly believe the makings of the great team can be found in one word:chemistry.A group of modestly talented individuals who are team players will accomplish far more than an assortment of geniuses thinking of themselves...

Fearless leadership is not a concept; it is an action. It is defined by the choices you make each day. It does not matter what you do or where you are in the organization. Title, position, status, and hierarchy do not define fearless leadership. You define it by how you behave, your attitude, your ability to rebound, and by the results that you produce. You can change your behavior to achieve a much higher level of success.

6. 20 habits which hold you back to be successful(2/6)
1. Winning too much:
If the need to win is the dominant gene in our success DNA the overwhelming reason we are
successful, then no matter what you only aim at winning the situation even it is of no importance to
you.
2. Adding too much value:
When some one comes to you with an idea rather than saying good idea, you just tweak it and say it
would be better if you do it like this.
3. Passing Judgement:
Its fine if you give an opinion but passing judgement may destroy the will of an individual
psychologically.
4. Passing destructive comments:
There is difference between passing judgement or Adding too much value, they add nothing but pain.
12/25/2015 Property of Indus Business Academy. For Academic Purpose only. 6
7. 20 habits which hold you back to be successful(3/6)
5. Starting with “No,” “But,” or “However.
If you start your sentence with these words no matter what your tone is the message given to the other
person is “You are wrong.”
6. Telling the world how smart we are:
Its human tendency to make other feel that if you are not intelligent as them, you are at least on par
with them. Its fine that you are smart, other people will like you to have you in their team, but
announcing that you are smart will refrain them to select you.
7. Speaking when angry.
Emotional volatility is not the sign of leader. If you are angry can you be expected to lead others.
8. Negativity, or “Let me explain why that won’t work.”
This aims at just demotivating the individual nothing else.
12/25/2015 Property of Indus Business Academy. For Academic Purpose only. 7
8. 20 habits which hold you back to be successful(4/6)
9. Withholding information:
If you have something to say, speak out. Don’t delay it for later. Whether it be positive or negative. But
refrain yourself if its too extreme. This doesn't mean you should not speak, you should but at right
time.
10. Failing to give proper recognition:
If you are with holding and not praising the person who deserves, you are failing to recognize him
properly, this deprives of the people and emotional payoff sets in.
11. Claiming credit that we don’t deserve:
This is one of the most psychological crime one can ever commit. Instead look around and see that
whether other people can be credited for the success.
12. Making excuses:
Once people reach the age of accountability, no matter other do to them they, cannot make an
excuse.

9. 20 habits which hold you back to be successful(5/6)
13. Clinging to the past.
Once the past has been occurred, one should not cling on it. If the aim of it is to make you capable of
peeping into the future, its fine. But if its not the aim you should leave the past behind.
14. Playing favorites.
Admiring those who give an unconditional love to us rather than those who really deserve to be
admired.
15. Refusing to express regret.
We think that apologising is the act that confirms we are the losers. But its not true agreeing upon
your mistake or asking for help can help you to come out of various problems.
16. Not listening:
Poor listening is due to you think that you know the information you are going to hear or you are so
smart that you can comprehend the blanks by yourself.

10. 20 habits which hold you back to be successful(6/6)
17. Failing to express gratitude.
If you fail to express gratitude, this will prevent others from visiting you again. Whether positive or
negative say Thank You, it will tie the person to yourself.
18. Punishing the messenger:
It is punishing the person who enlighten you about your mistakes.
19. Passing the buck.
Passing the buck is the dark side of the claiming the credit which is deserved by others. Here the
person not only claims the success of others but also pushes them with the shame of failure.
20. An excessive need to be “me”:
The person will to be excessive of me, in other words taking excessive responsibilities and depriving
other to indulge in any sort of activities which would showcase their skills.

You might not have a disease that behavioural change can cure.

Don’t mislead yourself about what you really want to change.
