Bill Wilson, founder of Alcoholics Anonymous knew this well. Even after he had been abstinent for years, he suffered from anxiety, tension, and fatigue. After he met Dr Abram Hoffer and started taking niacin 3g daily for 2 weeks, his symptoms vanished and he remained free of them. He was determined to give as many members of AA as possible the benefit of the vitamin. Without telling him, he conductd a trial of niacin on 30 friends from AA. Many suffered from the common affliction of alcoholics even when they are not drinking. After one month, 10 were well. After the 2nd month, another 10 had recovered.
