Engineering Influence: Talking to Developers about ContentJohn Eckman
Successful digital projects require a host of skills, but critical to the mix is software engineering. The most elegant, thoughtful, and pragmatic content strategy grinds to a halt when the implementation doesn’t live up to the plan.
Even when we get into so-called “maintenance” mode, we often find ourselves entirely dependent on the actions of strange beings speaking in a foreign tongue: developers.
What’s the best way to collaborate with our colleagues who come to web and mobile projects not with a focus on the content per se, but with a focus on the System?

It’s just making money in the world we live in.
If you’re looking for another one of those >business in a box< solutions, you should close this report now. Because Teaching Sells isn’t a “money-getting system.” It’s a framework to create a real-world business.
Getting Started With User-Centered Content by Emileigh Barnes & Kate Garklavs...Blend Interactive
Writing for the web is messy and complicated. As web content managers, we must weigh user needs against stakeholder demands, tight timelines, budget constraints, and more. We’re often thrown into projects that are already underway or lack a clear strategy. Our work is constrained by organizational pressures.
In this workshop, we’ll talk about aligning content with project goals, creating a strategy that puts users first, and building products that can maintain momentum and success, even after we’re gone.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
