• 2017: Start of incentive regulation project Ecotoxicology
– Publication 1st textbook 2019
• Since 2020 - 29 open textbooks (unique titles)
• Platform Wikiwijs
– Pro:
• Low-threshold in use (many teachers no HTML knowledge)
• Multiple authors, cross-institutional
• Interactive, 9 different forms of "test yourself quizzes"
• Modularity & Re-use
• Easy to manage, multiple output formats
– Temporatry downside:
• Book can be written in English, buttons are NL-language (so
far no barrier in use for students)
• Development: soon this will be in English too
4. What opportunities do open textbooks offer?
• Teachers can publish their own teaching materials -> recognition
• Teaching literature is more in line with lesson design
• Students have access to course material at all times
• Institution can showcase its areas of expertise
• Self created open textbook offers instructors new teaching activities
