WEB-BASED LESSON PLAN

Context: This ESP course was designed for the students of The School
of Education, at UCV, specifically for the EUS program.
Subject: English II
Location: UCV, Bolivar centre
Type of English taught: ESP for education.
Length: Three hours per week
Number of students: Ten (10), Female: eight (8); Male: two (2).
Modality: Blended course, studied through a semester of sixteen weeks.
Methodology used: Blended classes. Four face to face classes, each face to
face class is every three weeks, and between those classes, online sessions.
Materials: Reading taken from the book done by the department of the
language faculty.
Students’ background: They are students who live mostly in villages and
towns near Bolivar state. Some of them have never studied English before.

Topic: Skimming, scanning and key words.
Objectives:
 General:
1. To apply strategies of pre-reading to formulate hypothesis about the
content of a reading in order to activate the previous knowledge about
the topic.
2. To start the application of vocabulary strategies.
 Specific:
1. To formulate hypothesis about the content of a text.
2. To identify words related to the topic.
3. To answer questions about specific information.

Rationale for selecting this page:
Because this wiki allows collaborative work increasing students’ knowledge
through peer correction and the direct feedback of the facilitator of the course.

Teacher Preparation:
1. the teacher will define the skimming and scanning concepts.
2. the teacher will prepare some pre-reading exercises.
3. The teacher will prepare post reading exercises.
Steps for learners:
 Students will be ask to do all the tasks, posted on the wiki artifact, designed
specifically for it.
 In the face to face clases, students will have the opportunity to clarify
doubts, and receive personal feedback.
Classroom activities:
In the face to face session the activities will be:
1. Clarify doubts about the wiki material.
2. Practice the content studied with new readings.
3. Explain students how to use the wiki.
Online Activities:
1. Lead in: students will be asked to look at the pictures and the title of the
reading.
2. Content development: students will be asked to skim or scan the article.
3. Follow- up activities: students will do the assessment for the unit of the
wiki.
Extra Activity:
Students will watch the youtube video to reinforce knowledge and clarify
doubts.
