Weather satellites were invented by NASA scientists to scan images of Earth using radiometers, which measure temperature and cloud cover. The satellites orbit Earth, completing a full rotation every 24 hours to monitor global weather patterns and conditions. They provide data on cloud cover, storm locations, atmospheric temperature and heat balance.
