CALLUM SAMBRIDGE
Media Langauge
 The video is pulling on the audiences heart strings with
the use of imagery showing us images of children
fetching water. This pulls on the audiences heart strings
because it makes us feel sorrow towards the children as it
shows them struggling and in need. This causes the
audience to want to help which are the codes of this
advert. The way in which the children are positioned
shows the struggles they’re going through and how they
need help.
 Usually in adverts like these you expect to see the
children looking sad and dying however in the advert
they’re happy
 There isn’t any narration over the video which means that
you focus more on the imagery in the advert when
usually if a narrator is talking over it you focus more on
his/her voice and what they’re saying
 At the beginning of the advert it shows a girl with a
bucket and it looks like she's struggling as she holds it
over her head
Representation
 Water aids an organization which looks to help people struggling in other
countries and in the advert is shows us a young girl with a bucket as she
struggles to hold it above her head. This represents how much the kids in
these countries are struggling.
 In the advert there is another image showing 3 images showing a child,
mother and a whole family. In all of the images the child looks sad as she
drinks the water. The mother holding the child shows the struggle as she
looks like she is in need of help. And the image of the family shows the
same.
Audiences
 The Water aid TV advert mainly targets parents with children, this is
because the advert shows young children who need help. This would relate
to parents as they have children themselves and would really touch them
because they'd never want to see their own children in the position that
the children in the advert are in.
 It also would therefore target the older generation of people as they might
have grandchildren which would have an effect on them as in the advert it
shows children struggling.
 The advert is only very short and in the advert at the beginnin
 In the image the young boy is smiling which you wouldn’t really be
expecting to see from a boy living in a third world country as its very
stereotyped that most people in them countries have nothing.
 The boys lips are very dry which could be suggesting that he hasn’t drank
any water for a while which links to the whole point of water aid which is
to provide clean water for the people in the third world countries.
 Also in the image you see that his eyes are quite red suggesting the heat
has head an effect on them physically because of the heat.
 In the image you can see three young children playing with the water.
They look very happy which shows how thankful they are for having a
good fresh supply of water.
 It also shows how much of a good influence on the lives on the young
people water aid can have as it shows the delight the children have for the
help that water aid has provided to them.
 In the image it says ‘It’s already happening’ suggesting to us that water aid
have already started making changes in these countries and have already
began making a change to the young peoples lives
 In the image you can see what looks like a family with a women getting
fresh clean water. This is coming a brand new water pump which has been
placed in by water aid.
 You can also see a women holding her young child which tells us how
water aid look to give the younger generation in these countries a better
way of life and a better growth.
 This is what the company looks to provide for the people so they can live
long healthy lives without getting sick by dirty water.
 In the image you see a man who looks like he’s very thirsty and was in
need of the water because it is very hot in these countries.
 This could also be because the women usually look after the children and
the men would go out and work for their family which supports the image
as the man looked like he needed it after a long day of hard work in the
very draining heat.
 Water aid helps these people as after a long days work they’d either not
drink anything or drink dirty water so by them having fresh water out of
pumps it really does have a positive impact.
