For a team to function effectively and achieve its goals, members must approach the effort with the proper perspective.
They must understand their own role and the roles of others in the group. Without this, continual conflict is almost inevitable.
Members must also agree on goals and the tasks that must be done to achieve those goals. If everyone isn’t working in the same direction, the effort will fail.
Trust and cooperation among team members is essential. Without these two elements, effective teamwork is impossible.
Team members must continually communicate and coordinate efforts. Otherwise results are likely to be disappointing.
Ask trainees what they would say to a team member who is reluctant to share information and ideas because he says he doesn’t trust other members and believes they will steal his ideas and take credit for them.
