A virtual professional learning community (VPLC) allows teachers to collaborate, analyze data, and engage in professional development online instead of face-to-face. While the core ideas of ensuring student learning and having a collaborative culture remain the same, a VPLC differs in that it employs modern technology, allows for asynchronous contributions at flexible times, and can increase participation compared to a traditional PLC. Benefits of a VPLC include flexible meeting schedules, improved teaching practices, and higher student achievement. Future modules will provide guidance on using a VPLC for grade-level and vertical team planning and impacting the broader school community.
