A Leg to Stand On, by Oliver Sacks, is a book about Sacks himself. Sacks depicts the story of his
self induced disability, and the mental/physical barriers he faced within recovery, and acceptance.
Sacks broke down this process into seven steps: the mountain, becoming a patient, limbo,
quickening, Solvitur Ambulando, convalescence, and understanding. Along with the physical and
mental barriers he faced, there were many macro/micro contextual level issues throughout the
book. These issues included problems with his doctors, with his self identification, and body ego.
Sacks grew up as an athletic individual, his health being a main priority throughout his life. He
talks about how he grew up valuing his physical health more than anything, appreciating what hid
body could do and using it to its fullest advantage. Within his physical training, he trained to climb
a mountain called Hardanger Fjord. While climbing this mountain he expressed how his body was
an instrument in which he played and used to create the music of his physical endurance. When he
was reaching the peak of the mountain, he encountered a sign warning him of dangerous bulls on
the mountain. Him thinking he was a superior being and superior to this warning, he continued his
hike despite the warning. Suddenly he was faced with the danger this deadly bull, frozen in place
from his own fear. At first he saw the beauty within the bull, but when he realizes the danger he is
in, the bull became ugly and terrifying.

keep him calm in this tough situation. Another strength is his organization in his thoughts and

Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain v Boots cash chemist (Southern) Ltd was a Court of
Appeal decision on the nature of an offer. The court held that a display of an item in a store with a
price tag is not enough to constitute an offer. Such a display would be a mere invitation to treat.
Boots implemented a new method for customers to buy medicine. As opposed to earlier practices
where medicines were stored behind a counter and an assistant would get what the customer
wanted, the company allowed customers to pick drugs off the shelves and pay for them at the till.
The Pharmaceutical Society objected to this practice and contended that Boots was in breach of s
18(1) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. The Act required pharmacist to supervise the sale of
some products listed on the Acts schedule of poisons.
The Society s argument was that the display of products was an offer, which was accepted when
the customer selected and placed the products into the shopping basket. Because a pharmacist did
not supervise this process, Boots was in breach of the Act. Boots argument was that the sale was
effected at the till and was supervised in accordance with the Act. The lower court had found that
the method used by Boots was not in contravention of the Act. Pharmaceutical Society appealed the
decision.

At a very early age, children learn about social norms to help them become proper citizens in

venue early and were able to watch them band set up. Even some of the band members quipped
