Design thinking in HR : an introduction to design thinking, Presented by Remco Lenstra, as a prelude to the introduction of "Return on Experience" toolset developed by DIXON drive aided By AMS, presented at TEC (talent enablement conference) 2019 at meet district (Ghelamco arena) Ghent
Transform User Experience by Exploring More Ideas with DesignTopcoder
Greg Bell, Head of Marketing and Community at Topcoder, shares process-driven tips for getting great results by experimenting with design in the ideation phase.
Actual Presentation “europe congress making good organisers great”William Thomson
The presentation you deliver to an audience should be different from the one you actually send or upload. I ask speakers to provide two versions. This is a demonstration of the type of differences you should have been your "actual" presentation and the one that is for digesting after the event.
Big organizations have a reputation as stifling and lonely places where design careers sputter. The structure required to become successful on a large scale traditionally left little room for creative exploration. These places are awakening to the value of design. They are looking to designers to transform their cubicled caverns into design led enterprises. Changing culture is hard, especially when you bring people who think differently together. But we already have the skills to get this done. Using the same user centered tactics that we use to design products and services, designers are creating change. Gail will show how to extend design thinking, empathy, and collaboration to thrive as a designer and be a happy part of something big.
A seesion outlining what all the stakeholders in events can do to make sure our events are great!
Focussing on what the organiser can do to ensure their events become experiences.

10 Easy Ways to Irritate Your Design Team
Slides from the NUX7 talk by Jane Austin, Friday 19th October 2018.
2018.nuxconf.uk / nuxuk.org
Synopsis
How can good design be integrated into your business profitably? Jane will answer this question by considering the ‘anti-problem’. She will share 10 ways designers and business people can guarantee their behaviours and activities will ensure they never see eye-to-eye, their efforts will be wasted and everyone involved will know it is not their fault.
You will probably recognise most of these techniques in action in your own organisation. That is the anti-pattern.
If things are going to change for the better, do the opposite.
This is the second part of my presentation at the DesignOps Meetup Helsinki on 30th of August 2018.

Getting stakeholders to think in customer centric manner is relatively straightforward, yet often yields little in terms of actual change. This requires more than stakeholder support - it requires commitment, trust, and active participation in a process that can be unfamiliar or even frightening in a corporate environment. Workshops provide an opportunity to challenge the worldview of your stakeholders and expose them to the truths of customer behaviour. It’s an opportunity to transform them from supporters to believers by creating an environment where they can experience the magic of a user-centred collaborative process.

I delivered this presentation at the Canadian Association of Journalists "Innovate News" conference in Toronto, ON on January 30, 2010. The topic was "Visual Thinking and the Writing Process" and looks at visual techniques that writers could use in brainstorming, gathering information and developing their stories.
Effective communication is everyone’s job—whether you are trying to sell in a concept or convince a client. Visual Thinking can help us take in complex information and synthesize it into something meaningful. In an increasingly fragmented and cluttered world, simple imagery, metaphors and mindmaps can get people to understand the abstract and make your ideas tangible. Find out why why thinking visually may be one of the most sought after abilities of the 21st century.
Visual Thinking Presentation for UnitedHealth Innovation Dayburowe
Pictures are global and transcend words. They carry metaphors, symbols and meaning beyond the written word. Capturing ideas with images takes less time than reading text or verbalizing ideas, and making drawings helps you tell stories more effectively. Visual thinking can help you make sense of complexity, help find patterns and surface critical issues, help make faster, better decisions, and help you take action and do 'good' for your business.
In order to get comfortable with the skill of visual thinking, we need to
build confidence in drawing ability for those with no experience, help people develop a personal toolbox of sketching shortcuts, promote and encourage visual thinking as a useful tool at your desk and in the conference room.
The goal is to move from "let's THINK out loud" to "let's VISUALLY THINK out loud" as a way to brainstorm, collaborate and innovate together in the workplace.
Research shows that we think like we speak. The first step in Visual Design Thinking, then, is learning visual language. Come learn Glyph™, a language that balances verbal and visual elements to improve the way you learn, remember, create, and communicate. After this 2.5 hour workshop, you will be bursting through that “I can’t draw” trap and stepping into your new role as a standout visual problem solver.
Come join Stanford’s Alli McKee for a workshop that will build your creative confidence and amplify your communication. With extensive experience in both business (Bain & Company + Stanford GSB) and design (IDEO.org + Stanford d.school), Alli has come from Silicon Valley to bring you the best of both worlds to deliver a unique experience that is challenging, fun, and fulfilling.

Research Writing – organization exercise with cardsApril_Walters
This is an exercise I can do in class or have students do independently to organize their research writing ideas. The use of physical cards or post-its breaks students away from their screens. The collaborative aspect helps them see multiple ways to organize the same data. (English 100 - first year composition. UMBC)

Visual thinking for teams
What if we told you that expressing your ideas visually, as well as verbally, improves the likelihood that your team will be able to collaboratively unpack requirements and recall information?
Is this workshop for you?
Do you want a way to simplify complex and potentially confusing information? Do you want to reduce the misunderstanding of requirements? Is your team ever confused over what they have committed to? If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us to learn some practical techniques on how to draw information and requirements out of people into a tangible form that your team can use.
Why visual thinking?
Visual thinking:
Helps teams to see the big picture
Helps teams to learn faster and more effectively
Helps teams tell stories and make sure that everyone is on the same page
Uses all four learning modalities: visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and tactile (read/ write)
Increases individual engagement in conversations because people engage with their whole body, not just their minds
Helps teams think at a creative, strategic and tactical level
Reduces meeting times by 24% because people are focused on the same conversation
Serves as a visual record of a conversation (perfect to supplement user stories and acceptance criteria)
Cultural Challenges of Digitization - or: "OMG, the nerds are coming!"Andreas Czakaj
When traditional business meets IT both sides may face challenges.
These slides were first presented at the ProductPeople conference in Cologne on 2018-11-09.
To enable innovation in a large and dispersed organization, there is a need for a shared digital platform with simple, social, mobile, smart and situation-aware services that allow people - employees, partners and customers - to get inspired, openly share ideas, and collaborate to implement the best ideas - big or small.
In this session, we will examine the notion of 'innovation' with the goal of enabling new ideas within your team. This starts by challenging the concept of what innovation means and where new ideas originate. Techniques will be offered for building a culture of innovation which include: how to curate ideas, inspire teams, build innovative mindsets, create better processes and deal with change.
By the end of the session, attendees will gain new strategies that foster an environment of empowerment, creativity and collaboration.
They say the third time’s the charm — and indeed as I embark upon my third outing as an indie UX consultant, I’d like to share what it’s really like while trying to build a virtuous cycle of speaking, teaching, and advising. Turns out, there are some volatile emotions paired with tactical challenges. Plenty of firsthand lessons and insights are offered for those seeking to expand their repertoire into the realm of UX consulting.
Most people are born creative. As children, we revel in imaginary play, ask outlandish questions, draw blobs and call them dinosaurs. But over time, because of socialization and formal education, a lot of us start to stifle those impulses. We learn to be warier of judgment, more cautious, more analytical. The world seems to divide into “creatives” and “noncreatives,” and too many people consciously or unconsciously resign themselves to the latter category.
And yet we know that creativity is essential to success in any discipline or industry. According to a recent IBM survey of chief executives around the world, it’s the most sought-after trait in leaders today. No one can deny that creative thinking has enabled the rise and continued success of countless companies, from start-ups like Facebook and Google to stalwarts like Procter & Gamble and General Electric.
In this presentation you will discover why you lost your creative confidence—the natural ability to come up with new ideas and the courage to try them out, and how to restore it back.
