Las Madres De Plaza De Mayo Essay
The Political Performance of Motherhood: Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo
During the Argentine dictatorship known as the Dirty War (1976 1983), thousands of people were
systematically abducted by the government in order to eliminate all opposition to the regime. These
disappearances, which the dictatorship never admitted to committing, happened across class and
age lines, but most of the kidnapped were young students and blue collar workers. Despite the fact
that associations and meetings of any kind were forbidden, a group of housewife mothers decided
to protest the disappearance of their children. They began to gather every Thursday afternoon at the
same time in the main square in Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo, walking alone or in pairs ... Show

Furthermore, the Madres struggle only makes sense as it relates to their maternal identity: [t]he
kidnappings were brutal assaults [...] against their role as mothers, according to Marysa Navarro.
Suddenly deprived of their children, their lives had lost their meaning (3). The Madres uprising was
as much about recovering their children as it was about regaining their identities.
The success of their movement was only possible thanks to what Taylor calls its highly theatrical
(4) nature. Although the Madres were not impersonating something they were not, they exploited
the stereotypical characteristics of motherhood, particularly when it came to dress, to obtain their
goals. Paradoxically, the highlighting of their status as outsiders in the political system actually
allowed them to enter the system.
In Portillo and MuГ±oz s documentary, the Madres march in the streets in their trademark white
kerchiefs. But that is not the only visually homogenizing factor present in the hundreds of
women, from all socio economic backgrounds, that are shown in the movie. Most wear
conservative skirts and hold large handbags; many wear eyeglasses. The result is striking: the
Madres look old, frail, and powerless. According to Taylor, this uniform forms part of the carefully
constructed image of the Madres . These women have recount[ed] how they dressed down as
dowdy old women and became quick change artist some of them slipping on less traditionally

Use Of The Ipod As A Hard Disk Essay
How can we use the iPod as a hard disk. Many at times our iPods are used as our storage devices on
a certain level. The mode with which we use the iPod to store is to contain our music playlist,
podcasts and some videos. We can also try making an iPod disk by manually configuring the
device s settings. Making an iPoddisk simply means making your iPod as a hard disk device. You
can also use your iPod as a hard disk to store files, back up your important data or transfer files

American Beauty
From when Carolyn arrives home until the end of the scene with Lester in their living room
(Chapter 19: 1:14:35 1:17:40)
The movie American Beauty literally is trying to express how much beauty there is in America but
it is not always so easy to see. Often in the film objects normally thought of as ordinary are
magnified to express deeper meaning and show what beauty really exists in the world. The color
red, for instance, is an ordinary color but it shows its face numerous times throughout the movie.
The color is not just ordinary it is significant, as it represents love, passion, and ... Show more

In an instant the moment ends when Lester almost ruins her precious couch. Carolyn returns to
being uptight and materialistic and Lester to being angry. He becomes so angry with her because
she has let material things be her life. This shows how important love, passion, and happiness in life
is, what it is really about, and how hard it is to maintain all in only a few short minutes. The
cinematography in the film does a wonderful job conveying the genuine meaning behind the
sequence as well. The camera is placed far from the actors at the beginning of the scene and
becomes closer and closer as the desire between Lester and Carolyn grows. When Carolyn
relapses and becomes upset about the couch almost getting ruined the camera goes out again and
the actors are surrounded by all of the material items in the room. In that frame it is clear that the
more intimate, close up scene was more tasteful to see than the angry room full of expensive
furniture. Through this sequence the viewer should be able to understand the social issue
addressed; that today Americans ignore the raw, pure beauty in the world and instead are obsessed
with the amount of objects that they can own. Natural beauty is disappearing, while store bought
beauty is growing. In time this will destroy true happiness. The film is touching the viewer s heart
and mise en scene and cinematography do a wonderful job at exposing the actuality

Vaccinating Children Essay
The immunization of children plays a critical role in the health and protection of society as a
whole. By implementing the use of vaccines, we as a society have eradicated diseases that one
hundred years ago, decimated populations. Many people are allowed to choose and are exempt
from state vaccinations, and this is a problem because people are allowed to bring in many
different diseases that could decimate populations. In order to prevent these diseases from haunting
our population again, laws must be implemented in order to prevent the spread of diseases. By
allowing society to choose whether or not to get vaccinated, we are allowing them to compromise
our health by not making them get vaccinated. There are many distinct reasons people... Show more

In the case of vaccination, mandates sacrifice individual autonomy to protect communities from
disease (cdc.gov). Thus, these individuals want to exercise their right to protect themselves or
their children how they seem deemed fit, whether or not the government or society as a whole
sees it that same way. There are many divergent beliefs when it comes to the topic of vaccination,
and disease prevention. Parents who don t want to vaccinate their children may have a deep
cultural belief that doesn t allow them to get vaccinated. Certain religious beliefs promote
alternative perspectives toward vaccination. They are normally based on the ethical dilemmas
associated with using human tissue cells to create vaccines, and beliefs that the body is sacred,
should not receive chemicals, blood, or tissues from animals, and should be healed by God or
natural means (cdc.gov). For example, the Catholic Church realizes the importance of vaccines and
just states that whenever possible to use alternative means to be healed (cdc.gov). While the
Christian scientists do not have a formal policy against vaccines, they normally rely on the power
of prayer along with alternative means when absolutely necessary

myself studying abroad and graduating from UC Merced. Have made so many friends and gained
so much learning. My goalis to buy an expensive vehicle, one that is comfortable and saves gas. I

Factors Affecting The Airline Industry
Introduction:
The September 11 attacks left a major impact that the airline industry is yet to recover from.
Extended recession and increasing oil prices are the other major factors affecting the growth of the
airline industry. At this scenario, the airlines operating with unoccupied seats make huge losses and
sometimes the airliner even goes bankrupt; for instance, the kingfisher airlines in India has gone
bankrupt due to failure in managing the unoccupied seats and inefficient management in their ticket
pricing strategies. Even the recent disappearances of aircrafts from Malaysian airlines have
unfavorably affected the global airline industry leaving airlines operating with vacant seats.
It is very important for every airliner to create value for their shareholders; ticket pricing is the
main source that an airliner can make revenue from. Therefore, airliners should have strategies
that help them to be sustainable in the industry. I think that my research is on a problem that
most of the airliners are facing today. Especially domestic airliners and the airlines with limited
destinations are making more losses due to improper pricing strategies. This research focusses on
creating a value to the airliner that I will be working for. It also creates value to the shareholders
and stakeholders of the company. As every business is based on the customer satisfaction, my
research is achievable if I could make a good analysis of customers needs and wants.
Most importantly this

Persuasive Essay On Plastic Tax
Adding a 25 cent charge towards plastic bags would be a mistake. I am against the idea that our
state should consider the idea of adding the charge because it could lead to other issues. I believe
that we don t have to pay for the bags now, so what difference does it make if we decide to add the
tax? Adding the tax will cause issues for those who use plastic bags, cause paper bags to become
more popular, and cause a high demand in reusable bags. A bagtax that could assist in the affair,
but isn t necessary and should not be added. I don t believe that the tax on plastic bags can solve
the issues that are caused by people who are careless. Punishing those who use plastic bags isn t
fair when they might not even be the ones who are causing the controversy. Adding a bag tax is not
going to help us in any way.
Adding the 25 cent charge bag tax would be a mistake because it will cause issues for people
who use plastic bags. I understand that adding the tax will allow people to realize that plastic
bags have become an issue for our environment. But adding the tax to those who use plastic isn t
fair when they would rather have plastic to use around the house instead of having to worry
about paper bags or remembering to bring along with them reusable bags to the store. I don t find
it fair to only tax those who wish to use plastic bags. Industires who produce plastic bags can
make them very efficiently, as they are produced on a daily schedule. As they are easier to produce,

Summary Of The Poem Blank Space By Langston Hughes
Hughes opens with the instructor said and moves to the next stanza which is surrounded by blank
space. In this next stanza it displays the instructors request for his students to write a paper. He
splits these two lines to show a change in narration. In the first line he is narrating, and then breaks
of into the instructors narration. These are two seperate people and thoughts, therefore a white
space and stanzais necessary. in white space by Gary Lehmann he explains White space functions to
divide stanzas with distinctly different ideas or parts. which is the use Hughes white space between
his thought and his instructors thought. The fact that this is a separated stanza also adds to the
detachment of thoughts. Hughes isolates the professors request to show the importance of how this

At the end of the 3rd stanza Hughes uses a colon as to display the next stanza will be his paper
and will be of a different thought. In this 4th stanza it is a mixture of thought, and displays this
paper he is supposed to be writing for his professor. Then Hughes makes one more line break and
isolates the words this is my page for English B he separates this because in the stanza before
this it expresses his thoughts, and it has more of an indirect sense because not once does he state
that this is his paper yet. He put a colon to signal it, but never truly stated it was his paper,
therefore this line is used to clarify the ramble he just wrote was indeed his paper. Hughes uses
his stanzas and white space to separate his ideas and actions. It signals the reader to read the poem
in a certain flow as well. This allows Hughes to present a clear sequence of events and thoughts. He
gets this instruction, goes home, writes, and that s his

Alma, a 19 year old Palestinian living in the West Bank. For most of Alma s life she has had to

comprehension that she has about the situation that is occurring around her rather than seeing the
Palestinians and the Israelis as two different groups she sees them as one. She believes that at the

The two state solution allows for the Palestinians and the Israelis to be able to fulfill their need for
self determinism, which is the right that has been repeatedly encroached upon. The two state
solution will also result in the mending of the relationship that Israel has with the Palestinians and
the Arab world and it will allow for citizens of each state to be able to live their lives without the
constant fear of violence. To begin with, the two state solution advocates for the importance of
engagement and dialogue between the Israelis and the Palestinians and the Arabs of the middle
east. In 1948 1982, the relationship between the Israelis and the Arabs escalated leading to a
civil war. From 1982 and onwards the tensions have simmered as both side remember the
egregious aftermath. This is evident because about 400,000 Palestinians Arabs had fled from
Israel after the segment of the war that lasted form 1948 1949 (Gale). The forced mass exodus of
the Palestinians has been described by the United Nations Refugee Agency as one of the most

Sounds and Imagery of Human Emotion
Sounds and Imagery of Human Emotion In Marge Piercy s The Secretary Chant , the author uses

Marge Piercy s The Secretary Chant uses sounds to show that human emotion can be filed away and

plays itself, sort of like the poem itself does when read aloud. Updike uses assonance and
consonance in the first couple of lines to give musicality to the lines. The devices are first used
with a repetition of ick sounds to mimic the keys on the piano. Onomatopoeia is used throughout
the poem to as words make the sounds musically and mimic the Player Piano. The author follows

the flame is burning and the denotation means to move with a fast or jerky motion. The
combination of the two meanings gives the feeling that the piano is alive. John Updike s poem,

concept when he met Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln gave David excellent advice, which
lead David to the sixth decision for success I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit. Through
this decision David learned that he must forgive others with grace and mercy. Moreover, that he
could not move on with his life unless he learned to forgive all things. Not only did David learn
to forgive others in this decision for determining personal success, but he also learned to forgive
his own self. When people forgives something, they are doing it for themselves and not for

Essay On Medical Billing
Among the most vital things about in the medical billing rates business is coming up with a
criterion of what rates to charge for your services. The rate that you decide to settle upon is what
you charge the ensuing provider s office for billing on their behalf. As such, it implies that the
billing rate is the amount of money your doctor pays you for doing the billing for them.
With that backdrop, bear in mind that the biggest decision ( arguably ) that you ll ever have to
make in your line of business is settling on the rates to charge. And that s because your rates affect
the bottom line in more ways than one.
For starters, a very low rate will mean that you ll be struggling with a load of work and getting

No One Is More Vulnerable During Wartime Than Prisoners
No one is more vulnerable during wartime than prisoners of war (POW s). They are at the
mercy of an enemy who they had been trying to kill and defeat up until the moment of their
capture. During previous wars, this rather precarious situation was handled with a certain
amount of professionalism and dignity on the part of captors. The two world wars in Europe are
cases in which POW s were given a fair amount of food, clothing, and the ability to write and
receive letters in most cases. However, the war in the Pacific involving the United States and the
Japanese involved a great deal of abuse and substandard treatment of POW s resulting in a death

One of their main weapons in achieving this end was to exploit the American POW s.
In past wars, once POW s were captured they were for all intents and purposes out of the war. They
could no longer fight the enemy and resistance was limited to defying camp regulations. Vietnam
would be different. Instead of being out of the fight, the men in captivity found themselves on the
front lines of North Vietnam s war of propaganda. They would be beaten, tortured, and isolated on
a daily basis for years on in, but they would continue to do everything in their power to resist the
North Vietnamese. They understood that they still had a role to play in the war and that in order to
survive and return home with honor, they had to stand together and support one another.

Explain How A Sound Source In Space Will Stimulate Two Ears
A sound source in space will stimulate both ears. Experiments with headphones have suggested that
the side on which a source is heard depends on timing and intensity differences at the two ears. A
sound source on one side will stimulate the nearest ear first, because the sound path to that ear is
shorter. This cue is particularly important for low frequency sounds, because with low frequency
sounds, the phase differences at the two ears produced by the difference in path length are
unambiguous. The intensity at the nearest earwill also be greater, because the farther ear is
shadowed by the head. Localization depending only on these binaural cues lead to potential
ambiguities, because they do not give information on the elevation of a soundsource, or whether the
source is in front of or behind the head. Information on these is contributed by the pinna, which for
high frequency sounds produces further shadows and reflections. The cues from the pinna also
mean that some localization is possible when using only one ear.... Show more content on

In the model of Jeffress, this is detected by the input from one ear being compared with multiple
time shifted versions of the input from the other ear. The time shift that produces the maximum
degree of similarity indicates the direction of the sound source in the horizontal plane. In the

When I tell people that I have tattoos, people always say but you don t seem like the kind of
person who would get a tattoo. I personally do not believe that certain kinds of people get tattoos
and I wondered what my religion would think of my art. I have gone to a Catholic church my whole
life; I am actually very active in my church. I teach a four year old CCD (or Catholic Sunday
school) class and I used to play my flute in the choir. CCD registrations this year made my mind

The author of the article even seemed to have trouble drawing the line of excessive. The author,
Father Peter Joseph, states that he can not clearly say what is right or wrong, but he tries to
point out facts that should be considered before becoming inked; satanic tattoos are defined as
being a sin as well as tattoos that show the ugliness of the world. For example, a floral tattoo that
is filled with vibrant colors can become faded and ugly over time, therefore even the most
beautiful tattoos can become ugly. The text also says that tattoos and piercing are considered to be
self mutilation. Father Peter Joseph said that The human body was not made by God to be a pin
cushion or a mural (Joseph).
I did not agree with this text at all. I think that the person who wrote this was trying to say that
tattoos and body piercing are wrong, but he didn t want to literally say that. He tiptoed around the
issue so that all tattooed or pierced people appeared to be vain sinners.
The information that I found so far was not helping me answer my question. I wanted to find a
site that had normal people answering my questions. I didn t like the priests approach to the topic,
so I searched the Catholic Answers Forum. The Catholic Answers Forum is a message board where
people post questions. Someone posted a question asking if anyone had tattoos and if the church

Uses And Advantages And Disadvantages Of Communication...
Communication is a fundamental skill which everyone adopts in the society. It is a method
where a non verbal or verbal message is being sent and received from two or more people through
an appropriate channel (Better Health, 2016). A person who can communicate efficiently and
effectively is deemed to be successful in both personal and professional contexts. This is because
they can demonstrate empathy, awareness and concern for others and are aware of their own
concerns and needs (Dwyer et al., 2016). There are a variety of communicationchannels that a
message can be sent through such as using graphics, emails, phone and many more. The focus of

It would make the face of the company/workplace more positive as they will reduce damages to the
environment by going paperless.
These are a few advantages of using email as a source of communication within the workplace.
However, emails do also have its disadvantages if they are not produced effectively.
Following on from the advantages, it also comes with some disadvantages, the biggest being spam
emails which contain links to malicious content, potentially stealing or corrupting a company s
database. There can be misinterpretation throughout an email and accidental forwarding or leaking
of personal information about oneself or company. But it can also lead to cyber bullying through
threats that can be sent by a fake email address.
Malicious content sent through emails are heavily disguised and usually luring you to an
exclusive offer or voucher, by having a fake website which tracks every keystroke, meaning
usernames and passwords are stolen. There are many different types of virus, many steal
information and use it for personal gain, such as stealing money. But others can corrupt data, which
for some companies can be the worst possible outcome. Although many times the emails are
obvious, some employees may be fooled by the extreme links causing a chaotic fest within the
workplace. Even a virus that causes a computer to malfunction

Examples Of Reckless Driving In The Great Gatsby
In a report done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it was found that there
was a 5.6% increase in the number of lives lost, on the roads, last year (Spector, U.S Traffic
Fatalities Rose 5.6% in 2016, Wall Street Journal). This brings up a recurring theme of reckless
driving in the US. As described in the 1920s based book The Great Gatsby, and in the news
recently, we ve used cars recklessly. In both the news currently, and in The Great Gatsby, there
have been examples of Americans being reckless drivers. In The Great Gatsby, which is set in
the 20s, Fitzgerald describes the time as one of recklessness and care free. For example, when
Nick is leaving the first party he attended at Gatsby s (Fitzgerald 53). As he walked out, he
noticed a huge crowd surrounding a car, whose wheel had fallen off. After a night of drinking
and having a good time at Gatsby s, the attendee decided it s fine to drive home. Only to be stuck
50 feet from the house (Fitzgerald 53). Fitzgerald depicts reckless driving again when, Myrtle was
hit by Daisy. She was speeding down the road, going 50 60, and couldn t stop (Fitzgerald 139).

Why Do Shakespeare Believe In Love At First Sight
Everyone has or has had a crush, we all judge them by their looks at first but then we find out
what type of person they are. Just like how shakespeare believes in love at first sight, we all have
gone through it and it s no lie, even though you say don t believe in it, it s true. We all have that
one friend who denies loveat first sight. They say that it isn t true because it s not possible to fall
in love with someone without meeting them. They are in fact right ;however, when you see
someone and you fall in love with their looks, it s love at first sight. For example, you move to a
new school and you see a star football player and you fall in love with him, you obviously fall in
love with his looks because you don t know him. Just like in the film Romeo and Juliet. In Act 1
Scene 5, its shows that they meet for the first time and they both fail in love with each other.
Romeo says, If I profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle sin in this: my lips,

out that she was a capulet, he knew it would be a difficult task for him to be with her. Romeo

Essay about BBC s Current Marketing Plan
BBC s Current Marketing Plan
The BBC s current marketing plan focuses on a number of specific areas, where the BBC hopes
to achieve a variety of objectives that will improve the corporation s image, in this country as well
as abroad.
The BBC plans to increase the range and quality of its radio and television services. More high
impact broadcasting is being focused on. More memorable programmes are being developed and

so on.
The BBC wishes to bring younger audiences to BBC services by making bold, innovative
programmes. It also wants the young people to engage more with the BBC s news and current
affairs, without having to dumb it down too much or showing less parliamentary programming.
New methods of attracting more of the UK s ethnic minorities, both through the mainstream and
targeted through specially made programmes are needed.
Younger audiences appear to be a trouble area for the BBC, as they are supposedly failing to
attract enough of them to programmes. Young people are greatly interested in new and existing
technology. Programmes like Tomorrow s World could be created especially for young people,
providing news and information on different inventions and modifications to existing technology.
Currently there are not enough dedicated programmes to it. Nowadays the news appears to be very
serious and bleak. To alter this more funny news and entertainment news should be shown. Ethnic

The 60 s Research Paper
The 1960 s was the period that saw the greatest revolution in popular music. It was due to many
features, such as the change in social structures, cultural shifts, and new technologies. The music
was novelty, powerful, and relayed a message to those who listened. Rock music seemed to embody
the change that the young generation wanted to see in the world after their parents generation
destroyed it. Many of the artists, such as the Beatlesand Bob Dylan, remain major influences to
musicians to this day, and their music still remains very popular. The music in the 60 s was
egalitarian, promoting equality; eclectic, deriving influences from many different styles; and real,
relating music to the world.

take the already laid groundwork of the rock sound and turn it into their own, in the matter of a

Summary Of Putnam s Bowling Alone
When reading Putnam s ideas in Bowling alone, social capital is best defined as a theory that
means social networks have value. Putnam has made it clear that six times in the 20th century
social capital was independently invented, all which called attention to the way that people where

Things They Carried Essay Anything can change a person if they are not ready for that change.
The short story Sweetheart of The Song Tra Bong, in Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien
represents this by showing change in Mary Anne, who is a character the reader probably would not
expect to see in a book about the VietnamWar. There are many parts show the change in her from
the average high school girl she used to be into a predatory killer, but there is only one reason for
her change, and that is the war itself. The changes Mary Anne goes through in this story stand out
very clear. In the beginning, the quote that introduces Mary Anne is, ...she was seventeen years old,
fresh out of Cleveland Heights Senior High. She had long white legs... Show more content on

You can t feel like that anywhere else (O Brien 111). Mary Anne is inevitably drawn to the other
side the other side in this case being the Vietnam War itself. She is not completely part of it yet
but she sure is fascinated by it, and will be part of it soon. She displays the danger of throwing
away all separation between herself and the war. She is at the point where she wants to become
one with the war. However towards the end of the story, Mary Ann becomes a completely
different person. This can be shown perfectly in the quote, She had crossed to the other side. She
was part of the land. She was wearing her culottes, her pink sweater, and a necklace of human
tongues. She was dangerous. She was ready for the kill (O Brien 116).
Going back to the Vietnam War and its effect on Mary Anne. At this point, it can be seen that
Mary Anne has completely crossed over. She has a necklace of human tongues, which is crazy
weird. However, Mary Anne is still wearing her culottes and her pink sweater, the very pieces of
clothing that made her appear so American at the beginning of the story. The reason for Mary Anne
s change is not because of the Vietnamese or even Vietnam, even though it appeared to be at the
beginning. It s the war itself. The war is half Vietnamese and half American. A example that shows
Mary Anne going through her change is in the quote, Mary Anne made you think about those girls
back home, how clean and innocent they all are, how they ll never

restaurants, banquet rooms, conference rooms and business centers, and will host corporate
outings, business meetings, bat mitzvahs, seminars and weddings (M.L.B. Advanced Media, New

He knows the potential of the Yankee organization, and he feels that the new stadium is the best
thing for it. Although many have complained about the destruction of such a historical landmark,
Cashman says that the new stadium is just as good, if not better than the old one. He states that the
move was necessary because of all the improvements and new stadiums that other teams have made.
The opponents all have better batting cages and health recovery areas and other key advantages at
their home fields, so the Yankees obviously needed to keep up. Cashman feels that the new stadium

The Effects Of Pollution On The Air Quality Standard
The two biggest air pollution in California are transportation such as cars and trucks and
stationary sources such as oil refineries and industry facilities. Two major pollutions are ozone
and fine particulate materials. Ozone also known as smog. The cause of smog includes the
automobile and industrial processes that involve combustion of fossil fuels. The products of
fossil fuel consumption are sulfur dioxide, particles, ground level ozone, nitrogen oxides, carbon
monoxide and lead. Ground level ozone formed when nitrogen oxides and volatile organic
compounds heat up under the sunlight to produce ozone. These petroleum based fuels mainly
come from burning fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel: pollution that comes from our power
plants and industrial facilities and from the exhaust pipes of our cars, trucks, ships and trains.

Should The Federal Reserve Bank Drop Its Interest Rate
In a world where overseas central banks in Japan and Europe are lowering interest rates and in
some cases keeping rates negative, the Federal Reserve Bank (The Fed), is faced with a series
of tradeoffs. For example if the U.S. is the only major economy to raise rates then we may attract
money from overseas investors who are seeking yield. Sounds good, right? But the flip side is that
as this happens, our currency will appreciate and when it does, it costs more for overseas
consumers to buy our goods. This hurts our exporters and eventually will weaken our economy.
3) The central or treasury bank should drop its interest rate immediately or soon after the tax cuts to
control interest rates from commercial banks and inflation. (However a decrease ... Show more

We have thus seen that increase in money supply lowers the rate of interest which then stimulates
more investment demand. Increase in investment demand through multiplier process leads to a
greater increase in aggregate demand and national income.
If the economy suffers from inflation, the Government will like to check it. Then its Central Bank
should adopt tight or contractionary monetary policy. To control inflation the Central Bank of a
country can reduce money supply through open market operations by selling bonds or government
securities in the open market and in return gets currency funds from those who buy the bonds. In
this way liquidity in the banking system can be reduced.
To reduce money supply for fighting inflation the Central Bank can also raise cash reserve ratio of
the banks. The higher cash reserve ratio implies that the banks have to keep more cash reserve with
the Central Bank. As a result, the cash reserves with the banks fall which force them to contract
credit. With this money supply in the economy

The Characteristics Of Gothic Literature In Bram Stoker s...
Gothic literature is a form of literature that combines fiction, horror, death, and sometimes romance.
Gothic novels combine elements of medieval romance with the modern novel because Horace
Walpole; the first known gothic author, deemed medieval romance as too fanciful and modern
novels too realistic. The stories traditionally include a threatening mystery and numerous clues and
dramatic irony. There is also a trend of a monstrosity or monster figure to appear. They do not exude
obvious sources of danger, but the horrors are internalized and discreet. The monster might perhaps
live with its victim, invading domestic spaces and increases the levels of terror. Another trait of
gothic literature includes the psychological traits and ailments that can be attributed to the
characters. The psychologic aspect adds layers of complexity and depth, enhancing the plots in
Gothic literature from a two dimensional horror story to a multi dimensional exposГ© on the
human condition. Additionally, lead characters often represent the zeitgeist, the spirit of the time,
with their occupations, familial structures, and personality traits. Psychology offers insights
towards the scope of cultural change.
In Bram Stoker s gothic novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker falls victim to a vampire while
attempting to finalize a real estate deal for his boss. He travels from London to Transylvania to
stay for few days in the property that he is dealing with. Throughout the novel, Harker exhibits
narcissistic traits that parallel with the victorian era s zeitgeist of a dominant male figure. Harker
s self obsession blinds him from very apparent warnings. Had he either acknowledged or heeded
these warnings, he could have prevented a string of deaths and tragedy. Because Harker is so
absorbed in his assumed role in society, he risks the lives of himself and others. Narcissism is a
psychological condition that was first identified in 1898, one year after Dracula s publication.
The root of the word comes from the Greek God Narcissus, a huntry from Thespiae who was
known for beauty. He was proud and scorned those who loved him. Narcissus was attracted to a
pool where he viewed his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it. He was

Christianity And Christianity Of Christianity
Being some of the biggest religions in the world today, Christianity and Catholicism are considered
to be symbols of stability, comfort, and security because of its strong faith. This, however, has not
always been true. Over the course of hundreds of thousands of years, Christianity and Catholicism
have gone through tremendous changes through different major events in history. Ranging from the
Council of Nicaea the early church community prior to 1054 to the Spanish Colonization of the
New World prior to 1900 to the Second Vatican Council after 1900 all of these events created
waves of change in these religions and helped form them into what they are today. At the dawn of
Christianity, many differing beliefs existed. Small factions, without leadership, practiced their own
interpretations of their faith. Due to its nature as a persecuted religion, it was difficult for the early
church to establish a semblance of leadership. After Constantine s legalization and implementation
of Christianity in 313 A.D., it became clear that Catholics needed to consolidate their beliefs. This
wasn t accomplished until 325 A.D. when the Council of Nicaea was convened. There were many
motivations for holding the council, including: the deliberation on the nature of God and Jesus
Christ and what it meant to be Christian among others. The Council of Nicaea was a very important
meeting where 300 bishops from across the Roman Empiremet to discuss different administrative

painting that represents this belief is The Mandolin Player, It depicts the portrait of a young girl
playing a Mandolin but I believe it has a deeper meaning almost as if it a picture of Mary Cassatt
at a young age just beginning to learn her passion and focusing solely on it. I believe she also
would have wanted equal opportunities for women. Each of her teacher such as Charles Chaplin
help to hone her painting skills, making her dream possible and also giving her a way to contribute
to the women s suffrage

When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her...
When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and
hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness.
Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and
great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In
my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely
change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Capital of Yugoslavia on November 30, 1946. Many
people asked her where she is from, she replied I came from a country that no longer... Show more

Space was involved in the performance as well. A table and two wooden chairs created a great
amount of space in a big room. Until Abramovic decides to take the table away, interacting with
the audience. No movement emotions was made from her. On the other hand, the audience
showed all kinds of emotions. Or by teasing her to see if she would lose concentration. There was
no sound at all, but there is a great impact by her eyes locked to whoever sat opposite of her.
Marina Abramovic uses no material. She finds it important to make her performance last long
lengths for the spiritual and transformative properties Abramovic believes the longer the
performance can get the more transcendental it gets (History). She also believed the longer you
stay the more energy is invested from both she and the audience. Marina Abramovic has put her
body in dangerous and close fatal situations, by cuts and mutilation. To test her physical limits.
She goes through a process training to prepare her for her performance. She prepared six months
before the performance, she became a vegetarian. Only ate at certain times because of digestion.
Very strict diet with very light food and only eating in the morning very certain things. She never
went to the bathroom. She trained by drinking water every 45 minutes and sleeping, 45 minutes
and back to sleep. She isolated herself from the world. Only talk to a couple of people like curation,
doctor and few other people.
In my opinion, Marina

Myths About Nudism
Myths about Nudism
Nudism also knew as naturism is cultural as well as political movement practicing defending and
advocating personal and social nudity. It mostly takes place on private property. It can also be
used to refer to a personal, social or family based lifestyle. Nudism is the actual act of being naked
while naturism is the lifestyle that at times embraces the respect of other people, self respect, nature,
the environment, a healthy eating, healthy living through exercise and nudity. Because of the
different stereotypes, people have towards the culture of nudism, over time, they have developed
false assumptions and myths about nudism perpetuated by the media which are listed and
explained below.
Nudists are always naked
So many factors contradict the claim of nudists going naked all the time such as the weather, the
location one is in, for instance, one cannot go for shopping in groceries or supermarkets while
naked. I mean, what people will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nudism cannot be about sex, but it is insincere to say it is asexual. Human beings, a large
percentage of them, are sexual beings and that includes nudists, it is not as if when someone
becomes a nudist, their sexuality is stripped off them. Just like any other normal human beings,
nudists experience sexual attraction and have sex. They express affection in public regardless of
them being naked or with clothes. There may be a strong association between nudity and sex in
today s culture, but that is not the case. In nudist settings, people will behave sexually as people on
a textile beach setting; they will all act in the same manner, talk about stuff, do skinny dipping, flirt,
sunbathe and laugh about stuff. It does not mean that when people are all naked, they cannot
control themselves because they can do that whether they are naked or

Comparing The Lenses Of Personal And Social Identity
How is it for you to see yourself through both a personal and social identity perspective? How did
your Cultural Chest increase your understanding? In comparing the lenses of personal and social
identities, it is interesting to note the role that other people play in influencing social conceptions
as compared to those which are inwardly shaped. In relation to Tatum s reference to Charles
Cooley, considering my social identity made it clear that people are in the mirror in which [I see
myself] (Tatum, 2003, p. 9). However, I also found that these people were not as welcome when it
came to my personal perspective. When I constructed my Cultural Chest, the outside of my box was

How did it feel to listen to those in class? How do you feel about your sense of comfort and trust
in the group? Listening to others in class was both connecting and extremely comforting because
of the sense of familial transparency that ensued. Each presentation came off as authentic, and it
was clear that there were many details and experiences shared that normally would have been
glossed over or simply omitted in other class settings. In experiencing this, my sense of comfort
and trust in the group increased tenfold. Despite the fact that the majority of us do not yet know
many details about each other, we haven t been interacting like this is the case. With this group, I
feel increasingly comfortable and as though I can trust that my experiences will be respectfully
processed and remain private when our dialogue ends. When was the first time you experienced

Colony Collapse
Where would we be without the honey bee? Around 2006, a decline in the honey bee population
was noticed throughout the world. Beekeepers started noticing that many of their honey bee
colonies were dying off, weakening, or completely leaving their hives. As the problem became
more and more prevalent, it was given the name Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Scientist
studying the sudden death and disappearance of the bees found problems that they were not able to
explain. The honey beedecline became worldwide news as more and more beekeepers reported
unexplained loss of honey bee hives. The common indicators of colony collapse disorder are the
rapid loss of adult worker bees from affected colonies as evidenced by weak or dead colonies with...

But, it is important to note that honeybees are not our only pollinator and are not even native to
north America. That does not mean that they are not important or that we should not do our best
to continue to research and learn ways to protect them and help them thrive. Even though we
would lose many of the diverse foods we enjoy eating, we would not likely die but rather have
poor nutrition and take a huge economic loss from loss of specialized crops, as well as the
decline in livestock that feed on bee pollinated plants, and other business and pleasures that
depend on the pollination of honey bees. Accurate estimates of the effect of varroa on the on the
apiculture industry are hard to find, bit it is safe to assume that the mites have killed hundreds of
thousands of colonies worldwide, resulting in billions of dollars of economic loss (Ellis 2016).
Varroa have caused beekeeper production costs to rise, thus lowering the profit margin in
beekeeping (Ellis

Examples Of Blank Verse In Macbeth
Macbeth: Verse/Prose CR During Macbeth they use blank verse throughout most the poem to
show rythm and poetry. Blank verse is a type of poetry that does not rhyme. In the tragedy of
Macbeth he switches his writing style to Prose which is written or spoken language in its
ordinary form, without metrical structure. He would do this to make the writing sound formal or
like whoever the character is, is speaking. He does this to take the sing songy voice from the
writing. An example from the text would be from the letter Macbeth wrote to his wife at the
beginning of the story. He switched to prose, to make it sound like a letter. With him doing this,
this allows the reader to tell that it is a letter and read it in a tone that is like conversation.

Wada Kansuke As A Good Leader In The Samurai s Tale
In The Samurai s Tale there are many characters the can be viewed as great leaders. In my essay I
will be comparing Wada Kansuke, Yoshitoki, Lord Katsuyori and the traits that they ecnompass
which makes them great leaders, despite the fact that they all can be considered good leaders, I
believe that Wada Kansuke prevails over the rest due to his kinda and influence upon Murakami
Harutomo. Overall, I believe that Wada Kansuke is a better leader than Yoshitoki or Takeda
Katsuyori because of Kansuke s patience and support for Murakami Harutomo.
First, I ll begin by stating why I believe Wada Kansuke s traits of patience and support for
Murakami makes him the best leader in The Samurai s Tale, Wada Kanuke s patience helped

Sherry Turkle s Analysis
We cannot all write like Lincoln or Shakespeare, but even the least gifted among of us has this
incredible instrument, our voice, to communicate the range of human emotion. Why would we
deprive ourselves of that? (Sherry Turkle). Before there was ever technology, the average human
would go out and interact with each other rather than being connected digitally at the park.
According to a research database, for every 100 people, 96 of them own a cellular device in
which they use. As the years go by people walk from place to place with their heads face down
towards their phone for the sensation of a ring from another individual. Turkle was once optimistic
about the improvement that would come along with the technology to improve human lives... Show

With a text. . . I can answer on my own time. I can respond. I can ignore it. So it really works
with my mood. I m not bound to anything, no commitment. . . I have control over the
conversation and also more control over what I say. (Audrey 377). Where this is wrong is that
people think if they should respond or not. They have this frame of mind where they can ignore
it and hold it off for later. It gives the interpretation that people think they re able to control every
aspect of the world but when reality hits them, they re so delicate and weak. It is ridiculous how
the average person goes to their device because of a sense of vulnerability. Sherry Turkle adds to
the argument by saying I see a vulnerability in this generation, so quick to say, Please don t call.
(Turkle 385). My point is this: emails and text messages feel emotionless as you can take your
time with them, and respond at a later time to think of what you want to say taking away the
presently feel an interaction would. However, that isn t something that someone can do in real life.
Phone calls have become our second option if not last while texting or emailing, is our go to choice
of communication due to the fact that it minimizes the feeling that a phone call would give to
another. Indeed it s a slippery slope because when it comes to technology like this, we re not
aware of our surroundings leaving the most important things like our loved ones. Humans need to
keep a good relation with each other personally rather than doing it from a text message. We have
been given a gift with technology, and it s time for people to learn that they must take
responsibility when it comes to this ease of access, or it can take over the human mind and the way
we interact with each other. There are many things that are deteriorating the way we interact with

Shere Khan as the Enemy in Mowgli s Brothers of Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling was written in the year 1894 as a series of short stories based
primarily in the jungles of India. The first story, Mowgli s Brothers introduces a number of
characters that feature throughout additional stories in the novel. The antagonist a tiger named
Shere Kahn, is introduced early in the novel and presents the ongoing danger against the
protagonist, man child , Mowgli. Kipling conveys Shere Kahn as the enemy early in the novel
through varied use of language and the events that create tension between Mowgli himself. Shere
Khan s character ignores of the Law of the Jungle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Father Wolf says killing man means sooner or later there will be the arrival of white men on
elephants with guns and hundreds of brown men with gongs and rockets then, everybody in the
jungle suffers .
When Shere Khan first attacks the woodcutter s camp he is shown as incompetent. He burns his
paw in the human s fire and he is heard to be mumbling and muttering savagely as he tumbled
about . This is where we first hear of his dry, angry, snarly, singsong whine sounds. The
alliteration here emphasises his anger and confusion. The description of how Shere Khan is
whining shows how frustrated he is with Mowgli. He is portrayed as a tiger who is, unlike other
tigers because of his untigerish howl and we are told he has been lame in one foot from his birth
which shows that he is physically inferior to other tigers. He is also humiliated by Mother Wolf s
strong use of language by describing her movement as she sprang forward, her eyes, like two green
moons .
Kipling uses language to contrast Shere Khan with other animals and Characters. Mowgli is
described as soft and is also viewed as brave by Mother Wolf. How naked and how bold she says.
This shows that Mowgli the hero is not dangerous. Bagheera is portrayed by Kipling as a beautiful
animal who is inky black all over, but with the panther marking showing up in certain lights

millions of Americans are working jobs for lower wage(Ehrenreich, 10). Chapter 1, consists of an
introduction of the author and how she believes she has advantages like being white, native

poverty because of those advantages (11). Ehrenreich, first place is Key West, Florida, which is

Evil In Augustine s Theodicy
Evil, a thing we all fear that comes in many shapes and sizes, the most malevolent being in the
universe. Why is it here, why does it exist? We can all give examples of evil actions, people,
things, and places that we as a society believe are truly evil, but it is important to understand where
did we conceived these ideas. Theodicyis defined as the many different views on the existence of
evil, but we must go more in depth in order to correctly define what is good and bad. Evil is known
to be the source of bad and God, the creator of heaven and earth, the divine being, is the counter
opposite of evil. If God is an omnipresent being, who is omni benevolent, why does evil exist on
his earth in such extensive ways? An atheist may argue is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Rebellion , Ivan speaks of the cruel suffering of children and reverts back to Adam and Eve
eating the forbidden fruit. He states that adults ate the apple and that little children have not eaten
anything and are not yet guilty of anything (Dostoevsky, 238). From this, the question arises, if
children are not guilty of anything, why too do they suffer? Augustine s theodicy of original sin
could be applied to this question in search for an answer, but these children were too young to
understand free will. Most children, unlike adults, do not know how to fight for themselves. It is
hard to distinguish how children can they choose to disobey God orders if they were never even
taught how to follow him. Little, young, innocent children subjected to horrific tortures, such as the
five year old girl, who was punished for wetting the bed. She was forced to have her face smeared
with her excrements and then having her eat the excrements (Dostoevsky, 242). Knowing that these
kinds of events occur could make even the most religious individual question why God would allow
this kind of suffering to happen to an innocent

Rhy Lofgren Research Papers
A Survivor Private George Washington Elmer Lofgren served as an infantryman in Company E,
117th Regiment, 30th Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. He went into action on
September 20, 1918 on the Somme Front in the Battle of the Hindenburg Line.9 As significant
reinforcements from the United States reached Europe; they joined the Allies 1918 offensive. By
the time Elmer arrived on the battlefield, the Allies had already pushed the Germans back to their
last stronghold, the Siegfried Stellung, which the Allies called the Hindenburg Line.10 The fresh
troops from America joined the attack on these fortifications and sustained extremely high
casualty rates as they crossed no man s land through devastating machine gun and small arms
fire. Elmer, however, survived the slaughter. Elmer s son and daughter in law, Lyle and Elizabeth
Liz Lofgren, have an extensive website where I found a section in which Elmer relates an
account of his experiences on the battlefield. A brief excerpt follows. The reported 7.1 percent
casualty rate of the United States military forces mobilized for the Great War pales by comparison
to the death and suffering witnessed by Elmer.12 Almost 89 percent of the men with whom Elmer
served, either lost their lives or sustained wounds that left them incapable of walking off the field of
battle.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Spiritual Practice Of The Labyrinth
Since I was a child I was told to read the Bible, pray, and repeat. Eventually, these few spiritual
practices became empty rituals to me for a time. In the duration of this class thus far, I ve had the
chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I should practice them, and then put them into
practice with a right heart. I ve also had the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual
practices. One in particular interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practiceof the
Labyrinth.
There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the Labyrinth
was a formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience with the discipline
before the class. However, I decided to try it because I might not have had the chance to practice it
again, unless I first tried it. Also, the fact of a spiritual practice having a labyrinth involved greatly
interested me, and I wanted to study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it
even more. A prayerlabyrinth is a labyrinth used to facilitate prayer, meditation, spiritual
transformation, and/or global unity. Walking a prayer labyrinth is seen in 3 stages: Purgation,
Illumination, and Union. Purgation occurs as you first walk into the labyrinth until you reach the
center, the goal is to clear the mind from distractions, and open the heart. Illumination happens at
the center, the goal to pray and meditate and listen to what God has for you. Union,

  • 2. Las Madres De Plaza De Mayo Essay The Political Performance of Motherhood: Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo During the Argentine dictatorship known as the Dirty War (1976 1983), thousands of people were systematically abducted by the government in order to eliminate all opposition to the regime. These disappearances, which the dictatorship never admitted to committing, happened across class and age lines, but most of the kidnapped were young students and blue collar workers. Despite the fact that associations and meetings of any kind were forbidden, a group of housewife mothers decided to protest the disappearance of their children. They began to gather every Thursday afternoon at the same time in the main square in Buenos Aires, Plaza de Mayo, walking alone or in pairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the Madres struggle only makes sense as it relates to their maternal identity: [t]he kidnappings were brutal assaults [...] against their role as mothers, according to Marysa Navarro. Suddenly deprived of their children, their lives had lost their meaning (3). The Madres uprising was as much about recovering their children as it was about regaining their identities. The success of their movement was only possible thanks to what Taylor calls its highly theatrical (4) nature. Although the Madres were not impersonating something they were not, they exploited the stereotypical characteristics of motherhood, particularly when it came to dress, to obtain their goals. Paradoxically, the highlighting of their status as outsiders in the political system actually allowed them to enter the system. In Portillo and MuГ±oz s documentary, the Madres march in the streets in their trademark white kerchiefs. But that is not the only visually homogenizing factor present in the hundreds of women, from all socio economic backgrounds, that are shown in the movie. Most wear conservative skirts and hold large handbags; many wear eyeglasses. The result is striking: the Madres look old, frail, and powerless. According to Taylor, this uniform forms part of the carefully constructed image of the Madres . These women have recount[ed] how they dressed down as dowdy old women and became quick change artist some of them slipping on less traditionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Film Analysis of American Beauty and the Graduate Essay Jessica Burns 309164 Jmbf6b@mail.missouri.edu Film Studies 1800 Sequence Analysis/ Assignment No. 2 American Beauty From when Carolyn arrives home until the end of the scene with Lester in their living room (Chapter 19: 1:14:35 1:17:40) The movie American Beauty literally is trying to express how much beauty there is in America but it is not always so easy to see. Often in the film objects normally thought of as ordinary are magnified to express deeper meaning and show what beauty really exists in the world. The color red, for instance, is an ordinary color but it shows its face numerous times throughout the movie. The color is not just ordinary it is significant, as it represents love, passion, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an instant the moment ends when Lester almost ruins her precious couch. Carolyn returns to being uptight and materialistic and Lester to being angry. He becomes so angry with her because she has let material things be her life. This shows how important love, passion, and happiness in life is, what it is really about, and how hard it is to maintain all in only a few short minutes. The cinematography in the film does a wonderful job conveying the genuine meaning behind the sequence as well. The camera is placed far from the actors at the beginning of the scene and becomes closer and closer as the desire between Lester and Carolyn grows. When Carolyn relapses and becomes upset about the couch almost getting ruined the camera goes out again and the actors are surrounded by all of the material items in the room. In that frame it is clear that the more intimate, close up scene was more tasteful to see than the angry room full of expensive furniture. Through this sequence the viewer should be able to understand the social issue addressed; that today Americans ignore the raw, pure beauty in the world and instead are obsessed with the amount of objects that they can own. Natural beauty is disappearing, while store bought beauty is growing. In time this will destroy true happiness. The film is touching the viewer s heart and mise en scene and cinematography do a wonderful job at exposing the actuality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Vaccinating Children Essay The immunization of children plays a critical role in the health and protection of society as a whole. By implementing the use of vaccines, we as a society have eradicated diseases that one hundred years ago, decimated populations. Many people are allowed to choose and are exempt from state vaccinations, and this is a problem because people are allowed to bring in many different diseases that could decimate populations. In order to prevent these diseases from haunting our population again, laws must be implemented in order to prevent the spread of diseases. By allowing society to choose whether or not to get vaccinated, we are allowing them to compromise our health by not making them get vaccinated. There are many distinct reasons people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of vaccination, mandates sacrifice individual autonomy to protect communities from disease (cdc.gov). Thus, these individuals want to exercise their right to protect themselves or their children how they seem deemed fit, whether or not the government or society as a whole sees it that same way. There are many divergent beliefs when it comes to the topic of vaccination, and disease prevention. Parents who don t want to vaccinate their children may have a deep cultural belief that doesn t allow them to get vaccinated. Certain religious beliefs promote alternative perspectives toward vaccination. They are normally based on the ethical dilemmas associated with using human tissue cells to create vaccines, and beliefs that the body is sacred, should not receive chemicals, blood, or tissues from animals, and should be healed by God or natural means (cdc.gov). For example, the Catholic Church realizes the importance of vaccines and just states that whenever possible to use alternative means to be healed (cdc.gov). • 8. Factors Affecting The Airline Industry Introduction: The September 11 attacks left a major impact that the airline industry is yet to recover from. Extended recession and increasing oil prices are the other major factors affecting the growth of the airline industry. At this scenario, the airlines operating with unoccupied seats make huge losses and sometimes the airliner even goes bankrupt; for instance, the kingfisher airlines in India has gone bankrupt due to failure in managing the unoccupied seats and inefficient management in their ticket pricing strategies. Even the recent disappearances of aircrafts from Malaysian airlines have unfavorably affected the global airline industry leaving airlines operating with vacant seats. It is very important for every airliner to create value for their shareholders; ticket pricing is the main source that an airliner can make revenue from. Therefore, airliners should have strategies that help them to be sustainable in the industry. I think that my research is on a problem that most of the airliners are facing today. Especially domestic airliners and the airlines with limited destinations are making more losses due to improper pricing strategies. This research focusses on creating a value to the airliner that I will be working for. It also creates value to the shareholders and stakeholders of the company. As every business is based on the customer satisfaction, my research is achievable if I could make a good analysis of customers needs and wants. Most importantly this ... • 9. Persuasive Essay On Plastic Tax Adding a 25 cent charge towards plastic bags would be a mistake. I am against the idea that our state should consider the idea of adding the charge because it could lead to other issues. I believe that we don t have to pay for the bags now, so what difference does it make if we decide to add the tax? Adding the tax will cause issues for those who use plastic bags, cause paper bags to become more popular, and cause a high demand in reusable bags. A bagtax that could assist in the affair, but isn t necessary and should not be added. I don t believe that the tax on plastic bags can solve the issues that are caused by people who are careless. Punishing those who use plastic bags isn t fair when they might not even be the ones who are causing the controversy. Adding a bag tax is not going to help us in any way. Adding the 25 cent charge bag tax would be a mistake because it will cause issues for people who use plastic bags. I understand that adding the tax will allow people to realize that plastic bags have become an issue for our environment. But adding the tax to those who use plastic isn t fair when they would rather have plastic to use around the house instead of having to worry about paper bags or remembering to bring along with them reusable bags to the store. I don t find it fair to only tax those who wish to use plastic bags. Industires who produce plastic bags can make them very efficiently, as they are produced on a daily schedule. • 10. Summary Of The Poem Blank Space By Langston Hughes Hughes opens with the instructor said and moves to the next stanza which is surrounded by blank space. In this next stanza it displays the instructors request for his students to write a paper. He splits these two lines to show a change in narration. In the first line he is narrating, and then breaks of into the instructors narration. These are two seperate people and thoughts, therefore a white space and stanzais necessary. in white space by Gary Lehmann he explains White space functions to divide stanzas with distinctly different ideas or parts. which is the use Hughes white space between his thought and his instructors thought. The fact that this is a separated stanza also adds to the detachment of thoughts. Hughes isolates the professors request to show the importance of how this paper is his truth, it is apart of him.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the 3rd stanza Hughes uses a colon as to display the next stanza will be his paper and will be of a different thought. In this 4th stanza it is a mixture of thought, and displays this paper he is supposed to be writing for his professor. Then Hughes makes one more line break and isolates the words this is my page for English B he separates this because in the stanza before this it expresses his thoughts, and it has more of an indirect sense because not once does he state that this is his paper yet. He put a colon to signal it, but never truly stated it was his paper, therefore this line is used to clarify the ramble he just wrote was indeed his paper. Hughes uses his stanzas and white space to separate his ideas and actions. It signals the reader to read the poem in a certain flow as well. This allows Hughes to present a clear sequence of events and thoughts. He gets this instruction, goes home, writes, and that s his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To begin with, the two state solution advocates for the importance of engagement and dialogue between the Israelis and the Palestinians and the Arabs of the middle east. In 1948 1982, the relationship between the Israelis and the Arabs escalated leading to a civil war. From 1982 and onwards the tensions have simmered as both side remember the egregious aftermath. This is evident because about 400,000 Palestinians Arabs had fled from Israel after the segment of the war that lasted form 1948 1949 (Gale). Marge Piercy s The Secretary Chant uses sounds to show that human emotion can be filed away and replaced. In John Updike s Player Piano personification is used to wake up an inhuman piano that plays itself, sort of like the poem itself does when read aloud. Updike uses assonance and consonance in the first couple of lines to give musicality to the lines. The devices are first used with a repetition of ick sounds to mimic the keys on the piano. Onomatopoeia is used throughout the poem to as words make the sounds musically and mimic the Player Piano. The author follows those sounds with a repetition of uck sounds. There are a lot of sound going on in the first stanza, including alliteration internal rhymes, diction and meter with all coming together with the smooth s sounds a pleasant melody. Updike uses a connotation for life when the speaker says: Light footed, my steel feelers flicker (line 3). The connotation of the word flicker means life, as long as the flame is burning and the denotation means to move with a fast or jerky motion. • 21. Explain How A Sound Source In Space Will Stimulate Two Ears A sound source in space will stimulate both ears. Experiments with headphones have suggested that the side on which a source is heard depends on timing and intensity differences at the two ears. A sound source on one side will stimulate the nearest ear first, because the sound path to that ear is shorter. This cue is particularly important for low frequency sounds, because with low frequency sounds, the phase differences at the two ears produced by the difference in path length are unambiguous. The intensity at the nearest earwill also be greater, because the farther ear is shadowed by the head. Localization depending only on these binaural cues lead to potential ambiguities, because they do not give information on the elevation of a soundsource, or whether the source is in front of or behind the head. Information on these is contributed by the pinna, which for high frequency sounds produces further shadows and reflections. • 35. The Characteristics Of Gothic Literature In Bram Stoker s... Gothic literature is a form of literature that combines fiction, horror, death, and sometimes romance. Gothic novels combine elements of medieval romance with the modern novel because Horace Walpole; the first known gothic author, deemed medieval romance as too fanciful and modern novels too realistic. The stories traditionally include a threatening mystery and numerous clues and dramatic irony. There is also a trend of a monstrosity or monster figure to appear. They do not exude obvious sources of danger, but the horrors are internalized and discreet. The monster might perhaps live with its victim, invading domestic spaces and increases the levels of terror. Another trait of gothic literature includes the psychological traits and ailments that can be attributed to the characters. The psychologic aspect adds layers of complexity and depth, enhancing the plots in Gothic literature from a two dimensional horror story to a multi dimensional exposГ© on the human condition. Additionally, lead characters often represent the zeitgeist, the spirit of the time, with their occupations, familial structures, and personality traits. Psychology offers insights towards the scope of cultural change. In Bram Stoker s gothic novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker falls victim to a vampire while attempting to finalize a real estate deal for his boss. He travels from London to Transylvania to stay for few days in the property that he is dealing with. Throughout the novel, Harker exhibits narcissistic traits that parallel with the victorian era s zeitgeist of a dominant male figure. Harker s self obsession blinds him from very apparent warnings. Had he either acknowledged or heeded these warnings, he could have prevented a string of deaths and tragedy. Because Harker is so absorbed in his assumed role in society, he risks the lives of himself and others. They also practice traditional dream songs and sing the land throughout the film in times of trouble. King George navigates the unknown Never never land during Sarah Ashley s cattle drove to help them get to Darwin safely. The fading scenes of their journey along to the sound of a didgeridoo and his familiar chants creates the idea that a supernatural force of sorts is in the land which King George shares a distinct connection with. There are two sides to this question some argue that people should be able to keep wild animals as pets or in captivity because it provides protection for the animals and zoos help educate visitors about animals but others say they shouldn t be able to keep wild animals as pets or in captivity because of the wide spread of disease and because of untrained owners. • 39. Christianity And Christianity Of Christianity Being some of the biggest religions in the world today, Christianity and Catholicism are considered to be symbols of stability, comfort, and security because of its strong faith. This, however, has not always been true. Over the course of hundreds of thousands of years, Christianity and Catholicism have gone through tremendous changes through different major events in history. Ranging from the Council of Nicaea the early church community prior to 1054 to the Spanish Colonization of the New World prior to 1900 to the Second Vatican Council after 1900 all of these events created waves of change in these religions and helped form them into what they are today. At the dawn of Christianity, many differing beliefs existed. Small factions, without leadership, practiced their own interpretations of their faith. Due to its nature as a persecuted religion, it was difficult for the early church to establish a semblance of leadership. After Constantine s legalization and implementation of Christianity in 313 A.D., it became clear that Catholics needed to consolidate their beliefs. This wasn t accomplished until 325 A.D. when the Council of Nicaea was convened. There were many motivations for holding the council, including: the deliberation on the nature of God and Jesus Christ and what it meant to be Christian among others. The Council of Nicaea was a very important meeting where 300 bishops from across the Roman Empiremet to discuss different administrative and theological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Blank verse is a type of poetry that does not rhyme. An example from the text would be from the letter Macbeth wrote to his wife at the beginning of the story. He switched to prose, to make it sound like a letter. Sherry Turkle s Analysis We cannot all write like Lincoln or Shakespeare, but even the least gifted among of us has this incredible instrument, our voice, to communicate the range of human emotion. Why would we deprive ourselves of that? (Sherry Turkle). Before there was ever technology, the average human would go out and interact with each other rather than being connected digitally at the park. According to a research database, for every 100 people, 96 of them own a cellular device in which they use. I can answer on my own time. I can respond. I can ignore it. So it really works with my mood. I m not bound to anything, no commitment. . . They have this frame of mind where they can ignore it and hold it off for later. It gives the interpretation that people think they re able to control every aspect of the world but when reality hits them, they re so delicate and weak. It is ridiculous how the average person goes to their device because of a sense of vulnerability. Sherry Turkle adds to the argument by saying I see a vulnerability in this generation, so quick to say, Please don t call. (Turkle 385). My point is this: emails and text messages feel emotionless as you can take your time with them, and respond at a later time to think of what you want to say taking away the presently feel an interaction would. However, that isn t something that someone can do in real life. Phone calls have become our second option if not last while texting or emailing, is our go to choice of communication due to the fact that it minimizes the feeling that a phone call would give to another. Indeed it s a slippery slope because when it comes to technology like this, we re not aware of our surroundings leaving the most important things like our loved ones. Humans need to keep a good relation with each other personally rather than doing it from a text message. We have been given a gift with technology, and it s time for people to learn that they must take responsibility when it comes to this ease of access, or it can take over the human mind and the way we interact with each other.
