Skills & Science of Doctoring
By now images of horror and shock like the one of students and teachers crying at Buell Elementary
have become all–too–common. As we reel once again from the terrible thought that an innocent life
has been taken and it was a child who pulled the trigger, we should be vigilant for the next event,
which is becoming equally predictable... As public health professionals, we are trained to ask
important questions so we can treat both the symptoms and root causes of a sickness. We will give a
child medicine for a fever, but also antibiotics for the microorganism causing the illness. The
question to ask when diagnosing this tragedy is a simple one: Where did a seven–year–old boy get a
loaded gun? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preparing parents for the aggressive, anti–social, and/or disobedient behavior of children would
lessen the likelihood of emotionally driven disciplinary actions by parents (which often lead to
abusive actions) (Rosenberg, 41). Focusing on the parents, however, is not the only interventional
strategy that physicians can employ. At each doctor visit children should be emotionally evaluated.
Studies show that child abuse is often accompanied by language disorders, lower intelligence, and
deficits in emotional and social development (Newberger, 51). Physicians who focus on these
aspects of a child might be given a clue as to the environment in which a child is being raised and
can inquire further if he/she has suspicions of child abuse (Newberger, 71). Finally, at each visit,
physicians should review with the child what is considered "good" and "bad" touching and who they
can turn to if they feel they have been touched in a "bad" way (Kaplan, 125). The idea of these
techniques is to provide the child with the knowledge he/she needs to avoid abusive situations.
Furthermore, the knowledge imparted by the physician to the parents allows the parents to avoid
creating an abusive environment at home. The ultimate goal of decreasing the prevalence of child
abuse is not only to provide safe homes for children, but also to lessen the violent tendencies that
these children are more likely to

Violence : Violence And Violence
1. The internet says that violence means the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt,
damage, or kill someone or something. Violence is more than that. To me violence means to bring
harm or exert negativity to someone whether it's verbally, physically, emotionally, sexually,
psychologically, spiritually, culturally, and financially or neglect. Violence comes in different forms
and to just define it as being a physical thing is presenting or forming a problem in our society
today. We tend to make something like this as just one thing when violence can be exerted in
different ways. A person can be violent towards someone by just cursing at them or by verbally
insulting them. Violence comes any different forms. You don't have to physically hit someone to be
violent. If people would think of violence as being more than just physical violence would decrease
because we as people would be aware of violence and try to prevent from acting out violent acts.
There are different things or factors that label something as being a sort of violent act. I would
consider something as being violent due to the content that is being used by users. It wouldn't matter
who it is being presented towards because it doesn't matter. Violence is Violence. I would say that it
is very hard to label something as being violent because violence acts occur frequently more times
than usually around friends when playing. For an example when two females or males are talking to
one another and they

Violence: The Role Of Workplace Violence In Nursing
Workplace violence, is an issue often encountered but rarely discussed or focused on. Workplace
violence includes physical assault, verbal or written threats, harassment and homicide ("Workplace
Violence, "2017). Per ANA website, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) does
not require organizations to have prevention programs in regards to workplace violence. From
experience, we know how fast situations can escalate and it is important that we have a governing
body that protects us. Nurses are more likely not to report due to fear of unemployment or that
nothing will happen after reporting (Kvas & Seljak, 2014). A bill passed in December 2015, gave
protection for healthcare personnel injured while providing care and their assailants could be
charged with a felony offense. ("Association of perioperative...," 2015). Federally, there is not much
direction or leadership in regards to workplace violence outside of hospitals. There are several
organizations involving nurses in leadership, emergency medicine and perioperative nursing but not
many organizations associated with community health nursing. It is important to look on state and
local levels to see where we can assist in ensuring nurses in organizations other than hospitals feel
safe while working. I believe it is important to work together to achieve a common goal geared
towards the improvement of the nursing profession. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rape, Violence, And Violence
Though the offensive act occurs off–stage, Pinter makes the rape incident pivotal in understanding
the acts of violence committed against women. Rape like other acts of physical violence leads to
injuries and bruises in the victim and also leads to psychological effects such as post–traumatic
stress, anxiety and depression in the victim. But what separates rape from other acts of physical
violence is that it hurts the dignity of a woman, shatters her confidence, makes her feel powerless
and nothing but an object of pleasure for her offenders and at times causes long lasting physical and
psychic problems. In the play One for the Road, rape is used as a tool of violence to cause the
psychological breakdown of not only Gila but also her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Though Victor does not say anything then, his immense mental anguish and pain is expressed later

A scene of sexual molestation is observed in Pinter's play Mountain Language when the Sergeant at
the prison puts his hand on the bottom of a young woman, who had come to visit her imprisoned
husband.(p.256) The young woman does not protest against the molestation out of fear that her
husband might be brutally tortured as a consequence of her complaint against the Sergeant's
indecent behaviour. Instead what she understands by the Sergeant's behaviour is that if she offers her
body for sexual pleasure to him and other higher officials she might be able to get her husband
released from the confinement. That is why towards the end of the play, she willingly offers her
body to be sexually violated.

Workplace Violence
Hi Tonnetta, I really enjoyed reading your post. Security in the workplace is a very important topic.
Any organization, no matter what kind, can experience workplace violence. Workplace violence
often includes behaviors such as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying
(Mathis, Jackson, Valentine & Meglich, 2017, p. 558). You are correct that workplace violence does
not just involve physical harm that one may do to another, it can be in the form of verbal harm.
Verbal threats, intimidation and bullying are the most common forms of workplace violence and the
least reported. A form of bullying can be through gossip and rumors. Gossip and rumors can be just
as dangerous and sinister as a physical assault. We

Media Violence And Crime Violence
Media Violence and Crimes
There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent
medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by
younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while
others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar
division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the
American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association
between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group
of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA.
In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual
speculation.
Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the
Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of
negative influences of media violence (Dahl & Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical
Association, with five other public–health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media
violence.
However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link between
media violence and violent crime (Dahl & Vigna, 2009). The experiments, conducted by the FTC in

Spread Of Violence
How Society Should Protect Itself Against Violence.
There are many theoretical ways in which society can protect itself against violence, ranging from
more violence to kindness. But, the best way a society can protect itself from violence is by limiting
the spread of violence. There are multiple ways to limit or stop the spread of violence. One way is to
not be hostile to violent people, stopping the amount of violence. A second is to limit the amount of
people doing a violent act. Lastly, to remove the original source of violence. By stopping or
decreasing the spread of violence, a society can be protected. The first way to limit violence is
through the idea of non–complementary behavior. There is a pattern of human behavior, treating ...

Violence is spreadable according to Gary Slutkin in a talk named "Let's Treat Violence Like a
Contagious Disease." In his talk, he discusses the idea that violence is something that can be passed
on from person to person, that being raised in a violent situation or being shown violence can make
a person in turn, violent. He suggests that the way to limit this spread of violence is to first, remove
the person who began the violence. In removing that person, they are no longer spreading around
violence. Secondly, prevent the spread further by helping those who were exposed to violence to not
turn to violence themselves. Lastly, he claims that shifting the group norms from violence to
something not aggressive will result in a decrease in violence. According to Dr. Gary Slutkin,
violence can be stopped by limiting the spread as if it is something

The Problem Of Violence And Violence
In the modern age, many problems can be solved quickly and effectively by having a thoughtful
discussion with both belligerents. However, depending on the severity of the problem, the direness
of the situation, and the time one has to react, a violent solution may be the only option. There are
those who believe that violence should be abhorred and never resorted to, but those who think that
are optimistic dreamers who are living in a false reality. Of course, if everyone shared their
viewpoint, fights may never occur, but one has to accept the fact that some people will just refuse to
stand down or accept something other than exactly what they want. This is why a level headed
person with a strong moral compass needs to be able to recognize when a situation calls for a
peaceful diplomatic solution, or, if diplomacy fails, a call to action. Violence can solve problems, is
used in politics, employed by police, and is expressed through American superheroes. While
violence is not the only way out of problems, sometimes it is the best reasonable solution. Those
who succumb to the idea to use violence to achieve their goals will generally overcome their less
confrontational challengers–overturning the results of elections, riding wildly over peaceful
expressions of political opinion. Most of the time, the mere threat of violence is enough to induce
submission. Violent groups can usually be defeated only by enemies who use superior force against
them, which is why, in order to

Violence And Violence Among Children
Introduction While the rate of crime in the United States has decreased overall an increase in
senseless violence being committed by young people leaves individuals trying to understand what is
to blame. "It is encouraging that the rate of crimes of violence in the United States has dropped
about 15 percent since 1999. However, self–reported violent offending by American youth has not
declined." (Funk et al. 1) Work place violence, road rage disputes and mass school shootings are just
a few examples of violence that has become common place in society. Adolescent perpetrating
violent crimes has been on the rise as is evident with the number of shootings and physical
altercations in recent years. Many have tried to identify what is causing this increase in violence
among children. The growing problem of violence and aggressive behavior in society is speculated
to be credited in part to the rise of violent video games.
Background

rapid development and advancements in technology. Most people living today can remember a time
when not every person had a cell phone and smartphones sounded more like science fiction than a

Violence: The Role Of Sexual Violence In The Media
Sexual Abuse "Stop freaking out; you're acting like I raped you." It is so sad and disgusting how this
generation is so desensitized about rape, or any sexual abuse. In the recent media, the public has
seen high profile cases such as Bill Cosby, where more than forty women have come out with
assault allegations. Instead of support and sympathy, some of the reactions were that the women
were all lying because family man Bill Cosby could never do that. Others went as far as to make a
Halloween theme costume of the alleged rape. Also, who would have thought that a 16–year old

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Violence brings only temporary victories; violence, by creating
many more social problems than it solves, never brings permanent peace." Fighting is a growing
problem, especially in the book The Outsiders. Violence does not help solve any problems and has
many side effects. If anything, it creates more problems than actually solving any. In The Outsiders,
there is a lot of fighting between the Socs and the Greasers, which leads to physical effects. When
Ponyboy is walking home after watching a movie, he is jumped by five Socs with a pocketknife.

Origin Of Violence
The Origin of Violence A question that has been asked for years and years, to this day, that still
remains unanswered, where is the origin of violence. Where is the line that is drawn from self
defense to committing an act of violence? For years, cases on top of cases of violence have been
reported. School shootings, fights, murder, acts of theft, and countless others, all in which happen on
a daily basis, but where does the line get drawn from what is right and wrong in a situation. The
origin of violence lies within the case itself, as no case of violence is ever exactly the same, the
beliefs, the situation, and the scenario all have different origins for violence. Every individual's
beliefs are different from one another. Based on beliefs, in the 21st century, society follows their
beliefs and tends to be quite close minded to the thought of any belief that goes against or is not in
favor of their own. If an individual believes that that what they did in a violence scenario was right,
their mind can not easily be changed. Belief systems can also go into a huge psychological argument

There is a difference between the truth and an individual's truth. In your own mindset, you full
heartedly believe your own truth. So depending on the situation, anyone's truth can be taken as the
truth. A school shooter is probably convicted, charged as guilty, there is evidence over the crime
they committed, of course not really including their reasoning, but it is not a crime to be taken very
easily. Based on the situation lies the origin of violence. An intruder breaking into a family home,
committing an act of theft, the home owner shoots at the intruder, are they now the one guilty in this
situation? No, this was more of an act of self defense. The truth of the origin of violence lies within

Fanon Violence
"On Violence"
Fanon is most noted for claiming that "At the individual level, violence is a cleansing force. It rids
the colonized of their inferiority complex, of their passive and despairing attitude. It emboldens
them and restores their self–confidence" (51). At first glance this claim rings true to the
interpretations of his work given by authors such as Robert Fulford and Henry Louis Gates, Jr who
resent Fanon's work, but there is more to this claim. To further enumerate on the quote, violence is a
"cleansing force" for Fanon after having affirmed that decolonization is always a violent
phenomenon. He describes this decolonization as a movement of bringing about change which can
only be done by the colonized taking charge of their land. The settlers are never willing to view the
oppressed as subjects, meaning freedom has to be taken by force. ... Show more content on

Since the colonial world is "divided into two parts: Native and Colonizer's sector," the colonizers are
able to govern with brutal force in order to keep the natives in their place of poverty and obedience.
It is through the unbalanced relationship of the two that Fanon sees it fit for the colonized to
reciprocate the violence they have been exposed to their whole colonial lives.
It is here that the distinction between colonial violence and the emancipatory violence of the
colonized is needed. Colonial violence to Fanon has 3 dimensions, it is "inaugural, empirical and
absurd" (Mbembe 12). This violence is inaugural in the sense that it is used by the settlers to build
the colonial state and maintain their power in what Fanon called "a politics of hate" (89). The state is
everything but civil as it separates the settlers from the oppressed which leads into the second
dimension where the empirical aspects of this violence are

The Violence And Human Violence
20th century is the most educated century but also the most violent over the history of mankind. The
lethal violence has been increasing over the course of mammal evolution. The aggression in
mammals, that includes humans, also has a genetic component with high heritability. So it is widely
admitted that evolution has shaped human violence. And this violence is not among different
species, it is among the same species. Of all the world species, humans and chimpanzees are some
the only species that engage themselves in coordinated attacks on the other members of the same
species. We, humans, are not the only ones that are involved in the homicides, massacres, terrorism,
and human violence. Like humans, chimpanzees also engage in rape, murders, and violence. The
patterns of violence that is found among the humans are compared and contrasted with the great ape
species. Whether it is for food/resource sharing, dominance structure, territory or the male
competition for sexual access to females. Both human and chimpanzee want to prove their status
what becomes a reason for a great number of wars and aggressiveness (Wrangham and Peterson,
1996).
What are the similarities between the chimpanzees and the humans that are certainly not true of all
animals? What gives our own species such violent males? As humans are genetically related to the
Great Apes, my focus of this paper would be tracking the evolutionary history of violence in the
Apes and how it originated in the humans later

Early Disclosure, Violence, And Violence
Early disclosure to violence may possibly lead to aggression in young preschoolers. Research stated
that exposure to violence in adolescence at a young age may lead to aggression in school age youths.
Aggression and violence may not be as serious for some individuals and it's often considered a part
of growing up as a child. Aggression can be understood in a range of ways. It can be conceptualized
as ones' personality trait or having origins within a difficult temperament. In other words, aggression
and violence within an adolescent can be inherent to the individual. Aggression may also reflect a
behavioral pattern that can be attributed to a syndrome, such as Lesch–Nyhan syndrome, which
occurs in males. A wide spectrum of aggressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preschoolers have to learn positive behavioral roles in the classroom to decease violence and
aggression toward one another and toward the teacher. Parents and teachers must place children in
environments that offer a setting and support for learning positive social behavior rather than
aggressive, unfriendly, unsociable acts. Preschoolers are self–centered and have not developed all
the brain connections needed to see another's point of view. Preschoolers have that mindset of
"mine" which makes it compatible that everything belongs to themselves. Preschoolers or other
young children in general see all or nothing. Children do not understand that an individual is not all
good or not all bad. Young children also cannot sort out fantasy from reality and get diverse up
about what is real on television.
The temperament of a terrible two is commonly a completely accepted manner. The aggression
behavior linked with these tantrums dealing with throwing objects and kicking is therefore better
tolerated. The notion of these specific progressive stages when a child may escalate or decline their
aggressions that may cause violence can be supported. These symptoms could change with
developmental capability in motor and cognitive domains. A motor skilled toddler can throw objects
at siblings with intention to hurt, and a bothered preschooler can effortlessly jab his classmate with a

More people are killed in Chicago, IL than the people fighting over in Afghanistan. Violence kills
more young people in Chicago than any other city in America. "About 30% of students lose their

many teen's are losing their lives from gun shots. To decrease the death rate of young adults in
Chicago,IL the city came up with a summer job program. This program was created to give jobs to
teens that lived in poverty stricken neighborhoods. The outcome of this program was successful.
The results of her study suggest that just 25 hours of minimum–wage employment each week during
summer break was enough to reduce teen violence by 43% over the course of 16 months. This
program cuts down youth violence and helped keep troubled teens on the streets of Chicago. Teen
violence doesn't only affect teen's and other people, but it affects the community too. In
communities with high rates of youth violence it brings concern to the community by teen gangs,
burglary, drugs, and racial divisions. Gang violence puts the community in a panic. The community

Violence In Leadership
Did you know that violence accounts for more than 1.6 million deaths every year?
Violence has been around us our whole lives and is something that will never come to a stop.
Violence will continue through the rest of our lives and the lives to come in the future if someone
doesn't step up and try to take a stand. Society's leading problem is violence and can only be helped
through the kind of leadership that demonstrates Trust and Integrity, Confidence, and a good
communication. First, trust and integrity are one of my three most important qualities that every
leader needs to have if they are gonna try to stop violence within our society. Trust and integrity is a
key quality on how we can try to stop the problem of violence in our society. Talking about integrity,
Oprah Winfrey said: " Real integrity is doing the right, knowing that nobody's going to know
whether you did it or not." What she said kinda ties into to trust as well because everyone is gonna
know that you're going to do it and do well. Trust and Integrity would be important for a leader to
stop the violence because it shows a sense of trust and shows that the leader will do the right thing.

many schools aren't sure how to handle this growing problem in an appropriate manner. School
violence may come in various forms and some of the most common forms of school violence

Suspensions can lead to delinquency because some of the students may end up dropping out of
school. The risk of subsequent violence increases when violent students are transferred repeatedly
from one school to another (Finley, 2011). Students that drop out of school because of expulsion or
suspension are more likely to associate with deviant peers because they have more unstructured time
and this can become another problem.
Schools should take proactive approaches when dealing with school violence, but mediating in
conflicts and counselling indiscipline students are just reactive measures that may end up doing very
little to end school violence (Finley, 2011). The success or failure of counseling and mediation also
depends on the qualifications and training of the people in charge of such programs.
As the saying goes "it takes a village to raise a child", it will be a great deed for all of society to help
with this ongoing problem of school violence. It is in a parent's best interest to play a big role in
their child's life. A child learns from examples and by watching as others do.
A collective effort that includes parents, teachers and school administrators and the entire
community is needed to effectively deal with the problem of school violence. School violence is to a
large extent influenced by parents, but most of the blame is normally put on

The Violence Of Domestic Violence
Cycle of Violence in Domestic Violence
As stated by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, "domestic violence is defined as a
pattern of coercive and controlling behaviors and tactics used by one person over another (by or to
any household member) to gain power and control. This may include verbal abuse, financial abuse,
emotional, sexual, and physical abuse." (The Official Website of the Executive Office of Public
Safety and Security.)
Domestic abuse frequently becomes more often and dangerous over time.
After researching
Lenore E. Walker, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Institute, studied, researched and
interviewed hundreds of women victims of domestic violence and came to the conclusion that many
violent relationships follow a similar pattern. In 1979, Walker developed a social cycle theory cycle
that explains the behaviors involved in a domestic abuse. This cycle developed by her, could take
days months or years to develop, it is different for each relationship and not all follow the pattern,
and not all necessarily lead to physical abuse.
The Cycle of abuse developed by L. E. Walker includes the following 3 phases:
Tension building –Tension builds over common domestic, daily problems. Verbal abuse begins. The
abused person tries to help the situation by pleasing the abuser, giving in or avoiding the situation,
what do not stop the violence. The tension continues, reaches a "boiling point" and the abuse begins.

Violence And Violence : The Prostrence Of Violence
Violence – Its Goals
Let us study what violence really is, why we become violent, and what we achieve by that. Violence
really means unlawful exercise of physical force, or it may be even verbal abuses. Now, let us
analyze why we become violent; mostly it has been seen that we become violent when we do not get
what we want, or what we demand: whether our demand is right or wrong is a different matter.
Maybe, in this context it can be said that, at least sometimes, we do get excited and resort to
violence without having enough reason or provocation. However, it is equally true that, sometimes,
there really is no other way to present our demands.
Sometimes I feel that violence may be justified for instance when our demands are genuine, but,
even after many requests they are not given an ear to, so we just have to resort to violence in order
to make ourselves be heard by the authorities concerned. It is only our frustration in not being heard
that makes us take up the cudgels in a violent manner. However, if we coolly analyze the
achievement after a lot of hullabaloo we will surely notice that, we rarely return with a long–
standing solution to our problems. Our bouts of violence only lead us to discontent, discord,
destruction and even death. Thus, if we analyze with an attitude of understanding, we will mostly
realize that violence is not a real achiever.
Another flaw in being violent is that, when we are violent, we can only plan destruction. This is
because our violent

violence. The road in which The Man and The Boy travel on is chock full of danger, so one could

than the violence and warfare that occurs in A Farewell to Arms as in this novel people have to fight
and kill in order to survive in the world they live in, instead of just killing in aid of the war. The
theme of violence in The Road is apparent when The Man is searching a trailer for supplies, and
McCarthy writes: "He wafted away the smoke and looked down into the trailer. The small fire
burning in the floor seemed a long way down. He shielded the glare of it with his hand and when he

shrunken in their rotted clothes". These few sentences convey enough in their direct, plain language
that we do not really need the descriptive use of language to get a picture of the grotesque state that
the bodies in the trailer are in. McCarthy's use of brutal imagery here along with his use of the
theory of omission clearly illustrates the theme of violence to the reader and gives them a deeper
understanding of the whole

Violence : The Causes Of Violence And Video Games
Not only that, losing in a game invokes the feeling of frustration as well. Similarly, these feelings
are often seen in the real world. For example, football watchers often exhibit frustration when their
favorite team loses a match against a formidable foe. In few cases, this leads to destroying objects
around the house to release the anger that comes from defeat. Similarly, video game players
experience frustration such as playing games such as Golf with Friends and fails to perform a hole
in one. Thus, this leads to aggressive behavior such as exhibiting profanity. Although unlike
football, video games receive backlash from media that they cause violent behavior. Although, Paul
Tassi argues that video causes aggressiveness; however, he claims that it comes mostly from the fact
that players tend to become frustrated due to losing rather than the content of the game (4).
Therefore, the experience of losing causes aggressive behavior rather than the game itself. For
example, players can express aggravation when they encounter games like Mario, where they miss
to land a jump and fall to their death which results in starting all over from the beginning. Although,
some may argue that the frustration creates violent behavior. Although it may be true to a certain
degree, this does not mean that everyone will become violent simply from being frustrated. In fact,
it mostly depends on the person's tolerances of experiences of failure or lack of mastery. Overall,
video games are not

Violence: The Issue Of Violence In The United States
Violence Violence has been an issue for a long time and is all around us, that's why police or law
enforcements are important for our community to keep all individuals safe. People have said for
several years that violence is never the answer, but yet we continue to have many issues that
surround it. Our own history has shown many acts of violence throughout its time and has proven to
people that wars are the only answer, but I strongly disagree.
Criminals have shown several acts of violence that's why they have been punished in jail for a
certain amount of time depending on what the judge decides. All law enforcement jobs takes a lot of
dedication cause those hard working people are risking their lives every day to continue to save
others.

Symbolic Violence : The Causes Of Symbolic Violence
Often, violence perpetrated against an individual can be so impactful, that they internalized the hate
and either misrecognize the root problem or blame themselves for their own suffering. This category
of aggression, originally coined by Bourdieu, is referred to as symbolic violence. Manifesting itself
in many forms, symbolic violence is "the internalized humiliations and legitimations of inequality
and hierarchy ranging from sexism and racism to intimate expressions of class power" (Bourgois
426). Symbolic violence can be any form of oppression so long as it is "exercised through cognition
and misrecognition, knowledge and sentiment, with the unwitting consent of the dominated"
(Bourdieu 272). The victim transfers the blame away from the aggressor or aggressive system and
instead place the blame onto themselves. Victims of rape and aggression having a sense of
worthlessness, the poor placing the blame of their poverty onto their own laziness, and inner–city
youths assuming that they can only succeed in the drug trade are all ways that symbolic violence can
be exhibited in inner–city communities.
A common fallacy symbolic violence inflicts upon communities is that the poor are deserving of
their fate, and that it is their fault they have not fulfilled the American Dream and raised above
poverty. The notion that any person, regardless of race, upbringing, or gender, is capable of pulling
themselves up by the bootstraps is so wide spread that "most people in the United Sates

Violence In The Outsiders
In 2016, "there were an estimated 17,250 murders in the U.S..."(www.fbi.gov) This alarmingly large
number is a product of violence. Throughout history, violence was used to dispute arguments over
land and religions. Our careless use of violence through history is damaging to all people. The use of
violence is demonstrated in the book, The Outsiders. The book is about a two gangs that engaged in
violence with one another, the effects of their careless use of violence is shown in the characters
throughout the story. Violence is useless in solving conflicts, and can come with an unpleasant
aftermath.
Violence has no efficient use in our modern society. When Dally came to tell Johnny about beating
the Socs, Johnny said "Useless...fighting's no good..." This helps bring up the topic on how violence
is useless, and doesn't change anything;violence is not an asset to communities. This may be why,
Randy, a Soc, thinks fighting is pointless as well. "Soda fought for fun, Darry for pride, and Two–
Bit for conformity. Why do I fight? I thought, and couldn't think of any real good reason. There isn't

When Johnny and Ponyboy came back after killing Bob, hatred between Socs and Greasers grew
while they were gone. In their situation violence did lead into more trouble. Many citizens of the
world have turned to violence to resolve conflicts, even though it could make the situation more
severe. In the book The Outsiders it states, "And now he was a dead juvenile delinquent and there
wouldn't be any editorials in his favor. Dally didn't die a hero. He died violent and young and
desperate, just like we all knew he'd die someday..." Since he always turned to violence, he died
known as a hoodlum. Dally was introduced to violence at a young age, and this hardened him.

Violence in Youth
Introduction Youth violence is defined as violent behaviour that begins early in life and continues
throughout subsequent stages of life. Youth violence may include physical and emotional harm, and
minor crimes, escalating to murder (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Youth are
recognized as being between the ages of twelve and twenty–four however, teens are the most
affected by violence than any other group of youths as they are habitually perceived as the most
violent age group (Goodwin, 1998, pg. 7). Youth violence has a past that aids in explaining acts of
youth violence today. There are also numerous risk factors that may result in violent adolescents and
additionally, there are several effects that violent youth have on societies. Youth violence is
preventable. There are many methods to help prevent youth violence and its effects. There are also
many facts and actions involving youth violence that may be a source of conflicting opinions on the
matter. Youth violence is not merely a stage in one's life, it continues on to distress other fragments
of society.
History/ Background Canada's history of violence has influenced the actions of youth we see today.
The first Canadian youth gang documented in history was discovered prior to World War II.
However, gangs observed in the past lacked a criminal component, contrasting what is seen in
current youth gangs (Tunstall, 2009, pg 1). Youth violence in the United States was more noticeable

The Effects Of Violence On Youth Violence Essay
Introduction: Violence is everywhere and due to this notion people find ways to accept it. Violence
is part of the national mythology. Meaning violence is a social construction. Violent acts cannot be
wholly understood unless we examine them as but one "one link in the chain of a long process of
events" (Schmidt & Schröder 2001, 7). Violence and the responses to it are socially constructed,
they are phenomena viewed and interpreted in many different ways. For example, individuals
become a product of their environment. The lack of parental support, inflected by peers and their
community causes youth to act out violently. Every violent experience are molded and locked into
the memory of mind. Therefore the social construction of violence and the idea of memory, of
recollections of violence in someone life, is crucial to creating youth violence.
Violence is corrupting the minds of today's youth and destroying the future. Violence among young
people is the most common act of deviance seen today. Youth violence is framed as an epidemic
causing a moral panic. Youth violence is examined and labeled in order to construct responses. It
shows how the structure of the deviant act is constructed based on the normless and normal behavior
in society. Youth violence is socially constructed by the interpretation of social interactions each
adolescents faces. The youth generation is setting an example for the rest of America to show how
crisis situation arise and folds to tragic deaths.

Violence : Causes And Effects Of Violence In Adolescents
From Criminal Minds, to YouTube videos, to Xbox games, violent behavior is relentlessly
represented by multiple types of media sources. Depictions of murders, sexual assaults, fighting and
more are now constants in adolescent lives. Is this what causes violence in adolescents? Or is a
biological pre–disposition ultimately responsible? These are questions that have been widely
debated by many elite health professionals over the years. In Sharon Begley's essay, "Why the
Young Kill" she expresses the idea that while adolescent violence is related to exposure to violence
due to their surroundings, bad parenting, etc. it is also blatantly evident that biological
predisposition is a reality. In Hillary Clinton's speech "Media Violence and Children," she asserts
that the enormous amount of violence being reported in the media is affecting the development of
the brain and is causing the rise in violence in adolescents. An amalgamation of exposure to
traumatic events in childhood, a persistent focus on violence by the media, and a biological
predisposition are the key contributing factors that lead to adolescent violence. "Behavior is the
result of a dialogue between your brain and your experiences" (Begley 179). Are children born
good? The answer to that questions is highly debatable. The general belief seems to be that the
media, and parental guidance or lack thereof is to blame for adolescent violence, but this is not the
case. To start, violence and biology do go hand in hand.

Violence And Violence
Violence has always been a part of human experience. In a world where there is a competition to
supersede others in every respect, violence is a powerful weapon of dominance and subjugation.
Every year millions of people are victims of self–inflicted, interpersonal or collective violence
which leads to loss of lives or physical injuries and serious psychological effects. Considering the
magnitude of the negative physical and psychological effects that violence has on its victims,
violence has today come to be regarded as a public health issue or social pathology which if left
untreated can take the form of an epidemic and cause wide–scale destruction of public health. With
the development of the electronic and satellite media, certain forms of violence like war, terrorism,
riots, police violence and civil unrest today are visible to the audience whereas there are other types
of violence which are not visible to everybody owing to the perpetrators of violence being invisible
and backdrop of violence being home or office or social and even medical institutions which are
meant for taking care of the needy, helpless and sick people. Whether visible or invisible, violence
in any form is detrimental to public health and a comprehensive understanding of the concept of
violence should begin with a definition of the word 'violence'. Violence as defined by the World
Health Organization in the WRVH is, "The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or

Is Violence Ever the Answer?
Throughout history, violence has led to destruction of societies, the oppression of cultures, the
murder of innocents and the needless destruction of valuable property; but when justified, violence
has positive outcomes such as the birth of civilisations, the defeat of evil and the liberation of the
oppressed. Violence is often justified on two occasions, when you are defending yourself or others
from an act of violence, or as a last resort if you are being threatened. While using violence on these
occasions is justified, when not warranted violence is a malicious force that should never be
unleashed.
Violence and brutality is destructive and should be avoided if it is not justified. When not warranted,

Gang Violence: The Rise Of School Violence
SMASH!! Goes a kids head into a locker, why did this happen? It could have been caused by
anything from a fight with a family member, a fight over social media, or even a result of gang
violence. Over the years times have changed in many ways. The span of the years has brought a rise
in violence in schools. This has benefited us and has also been negative to society. Sadly, one thing
that is contributed to the rise in violence is school. Kids going to school together cause many
conflicts among their peers and sometimes even teachers. Also the things kids do on their alone time
can cause a lot of the violence as well. Over the years there has been a significant rise in school
violence.
One big reason violence has increased in schools is the internet. Kids go home and have the internet
in their hands. Kids can talk to each other over social media and that could have a good or bad

themselves and going to the same school cause big conflicts with even bigger consequences,

Violence : El Salvador 's Violence
Violence in El Salvador El Salvador is a country known for its beautiful beaches, mountainous
landscape, and coffee export. Unfortunately, this perfect picture is only a wall that hides the true
violence that occurs in the country. El Salvador's violence is an ongoing cycle, so how does today's
violence differ and compare from the violence in the 1980's? The differences and similarities of
violence in El Salvador from now and then involve root cause, political involvement, and economic
issues.
Today's violence in El Salvador consists of ruthless gang members. According to CRS
(Congressional Research Service) about 30,000 kids have joined the maras and it will continue to
increase. Due to the gang violence, children are fleeing the country to prevent from becoming
victims or recruited, furthermore families are streaming into the U.S to seek asylum. Alike today, El
Salvador experienced the same immigration crisis back in 1980 when the civil war was the cause for
Salvadorans to immigrate to the United Sates. Repression and violation of human rights was the root
cause, now gang violence is the root cause striking a similar pattern of the effects of violence. In
1980, El Salvador's right–wing government had death squads to kill citizens for suspicion of
supporting a social reform. Military soldiers attacked many villages, including El Mozote in which
men, women, and children were tortured and subjected to sexual violence.
In contrast, the violence Salvadorans face today is not

Thresholds Of Violence: The Prevention Of School Violence
Violence in society is increasing dramatically and not only is it out in the streets, but it's in the
school systems as well. However, school violence has been becoming more and more of a problem
all over the nation in the past several years. School violence needs to stop because no one should be
afraid to go to school without feeling like it'll be their last day. Not only is school violence affecting
children, but it affects teachers as well. Deaths in schools are tragic events that affect not just those
involved, but it also affects everyone else in the school, the neighborhoods, and the families as well.
There's a 2006 study saying that public school incidents have increased from a 71 percent to an 81
percent in a 5–year period. . In the article, "Thresholds of Violence", Malcolm Gladwell said and I
quote, "Since Sandy Hook, there has been more than 140 shootings in the United States". There are
many ways we all can do our part to decrease school violence. Parents can teach their kids right
from wrong, respecting others, and how to handle their emotions the right way at a really young age.
For some districts, metal detectors may be really useful for the schools that have a history with
weapons. Schools can do their part by adding security cameras around the school and the teachers
can stand outside their classrooms when each of their individual classes is over with. Anyone could
be the victim of school violence and it's nice to know that people would do their part so no one
would be afraid to go to school without feeling like it'll be their last day. ... Show more content on

Violence in Video Games
Violence, killing, blood, and drugs are just a few of the things kids see on their games everyday.
These things impact a child more than we realize. Many parents do not limit their child's screen
time, or monitor what they play. According to, Pamf.org, "Part of the increase in aggressive behavior
is linked to the amount of time children are allowed to play video games–and daily media use by
children is increasing significantly.". Media especially video games affects the behavior of people in
society.
Technology is a big thing in our world today and it will continue to grow. According to
nydailynews.com, "The average American then spends another 32 minutes a day on time–shifted
television, an hour using the Internet on a computer, an hour and seven minutes on a smartphone and
two hours, 46 minutes listening to the radio.". These numbers show that we revolve around
technology. While doing these daily tasks we may not realize how much violence we are actually
witnessing.
Video games were first introduced in the 1940's and since then they have evolved greatly. A half–
billion people on earth play video games an "hour a day," of whom 183 million are American. In
fact, 97 percent of American young people ages 12 to 17 play video games (Jane McGonigal). There
is a huge number of young people that play video games daily, many whom play it way longer than
in hour. Video games are an everyday task to many people, but they do not realize the harm it can
cause.

Sociology Of Violence
Aggression and war typically are not seen in various forms. One could argue that war is not always
where violent acts are seen, in the sense of cold wars, so it is can also be said to be a stage for
aggressive, rather than violent, acts. However, violence has multiple variations including: mental
violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural anthropologists
have significantly improved the understanding of. Before delving into the different categories of
violence, it is important to understand that the uses of violence also vary. When examining violence,
it is crucial to discern the action from the perspective of the perpetrator. (Hansen, 367) As seen in

Yet, violence does not need to be a physical act, it can also be mental or symbolic. This is someone's
ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or practical
commitments. (Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being labeled as
violence. However, symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states. Symbolic
violence is an important tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships of superiors
and inferiors. States are able to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own actions are just a
reaction to the symbolic violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111) This is where we
begin to see the topic of political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it is important to
clarify that political violence may or may not be direct violence. (Nagengast, 114) A state may take
actions such as limiting food sent to poorer people, hurting their chances of survival without actually
physically hurting them. State violence can be referred to by using the term 'terror.' Terror is used by
the states in order to maintain the status

Tv Violence And Domestic Violence Essay
Abstract
We examined the various forms of television violence and domestic violence in America. We
provided statistics showing the amounts of violence facts about adolescent exposure. We compared
and contrasted the differing effects of both and implemented a study to analyze the similarities. We
observed children and gathered data regarding their response to specific kinds of violence and the
psychological effects of each. We expected that the effects of television violence and domestic
would be strikingly similar to one another and the results of our study prove the similarities and
provoke awareness to the differences.

Television Violence Study evaluated nearly 1000 hours of programming over a two year period and
found that 61% of that programming contained interpersonal violence (Sclozman, 2002–2003, p 87).
Something very provocative about the study was that most of the violence was displayed on
children's shows. An article in Pediatrics Magazine states, ".Of all animated feature films produced
in the United States between 1937 and 1999, 100% portrayed violence..." ("Pediatrics," 2001). The
evidence if irrefutable, Television does display high levels of violence.
Not only has it been proven that a large amount of violence is displayed on television, but there has
been research that suggests that some children have displayed higher levels of aggression as a result
of their exposure to violent programming. A recent Current Events article states, "More than 1000
studies validate the connection between media violence and aggression in some children" ("Current
Events," 2001). Although opinions tend to vary about how much a child is affected, studies show
that some children are affected so much that they reenact what they saw on television on their peers,
and sometimes even their pets. Professional Wrestling is viewed by 35 million in the United States

Violence: The Role Of Violence In The Black Community
The idea of violence is instilled in everyone's head in some way or another. From the time we are
born we are equipped with the idea that we must react when we are upset. When someone affects us
in a negative way, there is an idea in our minds that urges us to fight back or cause harm to that
person. This idea of causing harm stays with us from childhood until we take our last breath. Since
2013, there have been 242 school shootings within America. Even worse, there have been over a
thousand mass shootings in the country resulting in mass casualties. Most recently, one single man
murdered fifty–eight people at a concert in Las Vegas, Nevada and injured over 240 others.
Although the motive may have been different between these shootings, one thing remains the same
for all of them, the act of violence. If there were one concept I would uninvent from people's minds,
it would be the idea of committing violence. As a society we fail to realize there are so many effects
that stem from one person's bad thought. . In the World, we spend so much money on defense
systems for what we think will happen because there are multiple many ways and reasons for which
we commit violence. We are so accustomed to something violent happening wherever we go, that

Gun Violence: The Reality Of School Violence
After researching more in depth about school shootings for my last write up, I decided that reading
and learning about the reality of school gun violence was important. In the late 1990s there was a
downward spiral of youth violence. Suburban areas stayed out of the spotlight, which helped keep
the fear of school violence to a minimum and brush under the rug the violence. In non–suburban
areas the majority were experiencing gun violence which led to fear in many peoples eyes. The
typical schoolyard fights had turned into murders and much more dangerous. There was a line that
mentioned students not bringing home homework anymore but coming home with bullet wounds.

  • 1. Violence Violence Skills & Science of Doctoring By now images of horror and shock like the one of students and teachers crying at Buell Elementary have become all–too–common. As we reel once again from the terrible thought that an innocent life has been taken and it was a child who pulled the trigger, we should be vigilant for the next event, which is becoming equally predictable... As public health professionals, we are trained to ask important questions so we can treat both the symptoms and root causes of a sickness. We will give a child medicine for a fever, but also antibiotics for the microorganism causing the illness. The question to ask when diagnosing this tragedy is a simple one: Where did a seven–year–old boy get a loaded gun? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Preparing parents for the aggressive, anti–social, and/or disobedient behavior of children would lessen the likelihood of emotionally driven disciplinary actions by parents (which often lead to abusive actions) (Rosenberg, 41). Focusing on the parents, however, is not the only interventional strategy that physicians can employ. At each doctor visit children should be emotionally evaluated. Studies show that child abuse is often accompanied by language disorders, lower intelligence, and deficits in emotional and social development (Newberger, 51). Physicians who focus on these aspects of a child might be given a clue as to the environment in which a child is being raised and can inquire further if he/she has suspicions of child abuse (Newberger, 71). Finally, at each visit, physicians should review with the child what is considered "good" and "bad" touching and who they can turn to if they feel they have been touched in a "bad" way (Kaplan, 125). The idea of these techniques is to provide the child with the knowledge he/she needs to avoid abusive situations. Furthermore, the knowledge imparted by the physician to the parents allows the parents to avoid creating an abusive environment at home. The ultimate goal of decreasing the prevalence of child abuse is not only to provide safe homes for children, but also to lessen the violent tendencies that these children are more likely to ... • 5. Violence : Violence And Violence 1. The internet says that violence means the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Violence is more than that. To me violence means to bring harm or exert negativity to someone whether it's verbally, physically, emotionally, sexually, psychologically, spiritually, culturally, and financially or neglect. Violence comes in different forms and to just define it as being a physical thing is presenting or forming a problem in our society today. We tend to make something like this as just one thing when violence can be exerted in different ways. A person can be violent towards someone by just cursing at them or by verbally insulting them. Violence comes any different forms. You don't have to physically hit someone to be violent. If people would think of violence as being more than just physical violence would decrease because we as people would be aware of violence and try to prevent from acting out violent acts. There are different things or factors that label something as being a sort of violent act. I would consider something as being violent due to the content that is being used by users. It wouldn't matter who it is being presented towards because it doesn't matter. Violence is Violence. I would say that it is very hard to label something as being violent because violence acts occur frequently more times than usually around friends when playing. For an example when two females or males are talking to one another and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Violence: The Role Of Workplace Violence In Nursing Workplace violence, is an issue often encountered but rarely discussed or focused on. Workplace violence includes physical assault, verbal or written threats, harassment and homicide ("Workplace Violence, "2017). Per ANA website, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) does not require organizations to have prevention programs in regards to workplace violence. From experience, we know how fast situations can escalate and it is important that we have a governing body that protects us. Nurses are more likely not to report due to fear of unemployment or that nothing will happen after reporting (Kvas & Seljak, 2014). A bill passed in December 2015, gave protection for healthcare personnel injured while providing care and their assailants could be charged with a felony offense. ("Association of perioperative...," 2015). Federally, there is not much direction or leadership in regards to workplace violence outside of hospitals. There are several organizations involving nurses in leadership, emergency medicine and perioperative nursing but not many organizations associated with community health nursing. It is important to look on state and local levels to see where we can assist in ensuring nurses in organizations other than hospitals feel safe while working. I believe it is important to work together to achieve a common goal geared towards the improvement of the nursing profession. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. Rape, Violence, And Violence Though the offensive act occurs off–stage, Pinter makes the rape incident pivotal in understanding the acts of violence committed against women. Rape like other acts of physical violence leads to injuries and bruises in the victim and also leads to psychological effects such as post–traumatic stress, anxiety and depression in the victim. But what separates rape from other acts of physical violence is that it hurts the dignity of a woman, shatters her confidence, makes her feel powerless and nothing but an object of pleasure for her offenders and at times causes long lasting physical and psychic problems. In the play One for the Road, rape is used as a tool of violence to cause the psychological breakdown of not only Gila but also her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning. Instead what she understands by the Sergeant's behaviour is that if she offers her body for sexual pleasure to him and other higher officials she might be able to get her husband released from the confinement. That is why towards the end of the play, she willingly offers her body to be sexually violated. YOUNG WOMAN Can I fuck him? If I fuck him, will everything be all right? SERGEANT Sure. No problem. • 17. Workplace Violence Hi Tonnetta, I really enjoyed reading your post. Security in the workplace is a very important topic. Any organization, no matter what kind, can experience workplace violence. Workplace violence often includes behaviors such as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying (Mathis, Jackson, Valentine & Meglich, 2017, p. 558). You are correct that workplace violence does not just involve physical harm that one may do to another, it can be in the form of verbal harm. Verbal threats, intimidation and bullying are the most common forms of workplace violence and the least reported. A form of bullying can be through gossip and rumors. Gossip and rumors can be just as dangerous and sinister as a physical assault. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Media Violence And Crime Violence Media Violence and Crimes There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA. In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual speculation. Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of negative influences of media violence (Dahl & Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical Association, with five other public–health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media violence. However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link between media violence and violent crime (Dahl & Vigna, 2009). • 25. Spread Of Violence How Society Should Protect Itself Against Violence. There are many theoretical ways in which society can protect itself against violence, ranging from more violence to kindness. But, the best way a society can protect itself from violence is by limiting the spread of violence. There are multiple ways to limit or stop the spread of violence. One way is to not be hostile to violent people, stopping the amount of violence. A second is to limit the amount of people doing a violent act. Lastly, to remove the original source of violence. By stopping or decreasing the spread of violence, a society can be protected. The first way to limit violence is through the idea of non–complementary behavior. There is a pattern of human behavior, treating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violence is spreadable according to Gary Slutkin in a talk named "Let's Treat Violence Like a Contagious Disease." In his talk, he discusses the idea that violence is something that can be passed on from person to person, that being raised in a violent situation or being shown violence can make a person in turn, violent. He suggests that the way to limit this spread of violence is to first, remove the person who began the violence. In removing that person, they are no longer spreading around violence. Secondly, prevent the spread further by helping those who were exposed to violence to not turn to violence themselves. Lastly, he claims that shifting the group norms from violence to something not aggressive will result in a decrease in violence. • 29. The Problem Of Violence And Violence In the modern age, many problems can be solved quickly and effectively by having a thoughtful discussion with both belligerents. However, depending on the severity of the problem, the direness of the situation, and the time one has to react, a violent solution may be the only option. There are those who believe that violence should be abhorred and never resorted to, but those who think that are optimistic dreamers who are living in a false reality. Of course, if everyone shared their viewpoint, fights may never occur, but one has to accept the fact that some people will just refuse to stand down or accept something other than exactly what they want. This is why a level headed person with a strong moral compass needs to be able to recognize when a situation calls for a peaceful diplomatic solution, or, if diplomacy fails, a call to action. Violence can solve problems, is used in politics, employed by police, and is expressed through American superheroes. While violence is not the only way out of problems, sometimes it is the best reasonable solution. Those who succumb to the idea to use violence to achieve their goals will generally overcome their less confrontational challengers–overturning the results of elections, riding wildly over peaceful expressions of political opinion. Most of the time, the mere threat of violence is enough to induce submission. Violent groups can usually be defeated only by enemies who use superior force against them, which is why, in order to ... • 33. Violence And Violence Among Children Introduction While the rate of crime in the United States has decreased overall an increase in senseless violence being committed by young people leaves individuals trying to understand what is to blame. "It is encouraging that the rate of crimes of violence in the United States has dropped about 15 percent since 1999. However, self–reported violent offending by American youth has not declined." (Funk et al. 1) Work place violence, road rage disputes and mass school shootings are just a few examples of violence that has become common place in society. Adolescent perpetrating violent crimes has been on the rise as is evident with the number of shootings and physical altercations in recent years. Many have tried to identify what is causing this increase in violence among children. The growing problem of violence and aggressive behavior in society is speculated to be credited in part to the rise of violent video games. Background Over the past few decades the average person's daily routine has changed drastically through the rapid development and advancements in technology. Most people living today can remember a time when not every person had a cell phone and smartphones sounded more like science fiction than a reality. As technology has made advancements the world of entertainment and the way people spend their free time has changed. One sector that has seen drastic improvements is that of the world of video games. It is so sad and disgusting how this generation is so desensitized about rape, or any sexual abuse. In the recent media, the public has seen high profile cases such as Bill Cosby, where more than forty women have come out with assault allegations. Instead of support and sympathy, some of the reactions were that the women were all lying because family man Bill Cosby could never do that. Others went as far as to make a Halloween theme costume of the alleged rape. Also, who would have thought that a 16–year old girl's rape would be made viral, but not for the right reason. Violence In The Outsiders Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Violence brings only temporary victories; violence, by creating many more social problems than it solves, never brings permanent peace." Fighting is a growing problem, especially in the book The Outsiders. Violence does not help solve any problems and has many side effects. If anything, it creates more problems than actually solving any. In The Outsiders, there is a lot of fighting between the Socs and the Greasers, which leads to physical effects. When Ponyboy is walking home after watching a movie, he is jumped by five Socs with a pocketknife. Ponyboy was hurt badly and almost knocked out from them slugging him in the face. • 45. Origin Of Violence The Origin of Violence A question that has been asked for years and years, to this day, that still remains unanswered, where is the origin of violence. Where is the line that is drawn from self defense to committing an act of violence? For years, cases on top of cases of violence have been reported. School shootings, fights, murder, acts of theft, and countless others, all in which happen on a daily basis, but where does the line get drawn from what is right and wrong in a situation. The origin of violence lies within the case itself, as no case of violence is ever exactly the same, the beliefs, the situation, and the scenario all have different origins for violence. Every individual's beliefs are different from one another. Based on beliefs, in the 21st century, society follows their beliefs and tends to be quite close minded to the thought of any belief that goes against or is not in favor of their own. If an individual believes that that what they did in a violence scenario was right, their mind can not easily be changed. Belief systems can also go into a huge psychological argument as ... It rids the colonized of their inferiority complex, of their passive and despairing attitude. It emboldens them and restores their self–confidence" (51). At first glance this claim rings true to the interpretations of his work given by authors such as Robert Fulford and Henry Louis Gates, Jr who resent Fanon's work, but there is more to this claim. To further enumerate on the quote, violence is a "cleansing force" for Fanon after having affirmed that decolonization is always a violent phenomenon. He describes this decolonization as a movement of bringing about change which can only be done by the colonized taking charge of their land. The settlers are never willing to view the oppressed as subjects, meaning freedom has to be taken by force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the colonial world is "divided into two parts: Native and Colonizer's sector," the colonizers are able to govern with brutal force in order to keep the natives in their place of poverty and obedience. It is through the unbalanced relationship of the two that Fanon sees it fit for the colonized to reciprocate the violence they have been exposed to their whole colonial lives. It is here that the distinction between colonial violence and the emancipatory violence of the colonized is needed. Colonial violence to Fanon has 3 dimensions, it is "inaugural, empirical and absurd" (Mbembe 12). This violence is inaugural in the sense that it is used by the settlers to build the colonial state and maintain their power in what Fanon called "a politics of hate" (89). The state is everything but civil as it separates the settlers from the oppressed which leads into the second dimension where the empirical aspects of this violence are ... • 53. The Violence And Human Violence 20th century is the most educated century but also the most violent over the history of mankind. The lethal violence has been increasing over the course of mammal evolution. The aggression in mammals, that includes humans, also has a genetic component with high heritability. So it is widely admitted that evolution has shaped human violence. And this violence is not among different species, it is among the same species. Of all the world species, humans and chimpanzees are some the only species that engage themselves in coordinated attacks on the other members of the same species. We, humans, are not the only ones that are involved in the homicides, massacres, terrorism, and human violence. Like humans, chimpanzees also engage in rape, murders, and violence. The patterns of violence that is found among the humans are compared and contrasted with the great ape species. Whether it is for food/resource sharing, dominance structure, territory or the male competition for sexual access to females. Both human and chimpanzee want to prove their status what becomes a reason for a great number of wars and aggressiveness (Wrangham and Peterson, 1996). What are the similarities between the chimpanzees and the humans that are certainly not true of all animals? What gives our own species such violent males? Research stated that exposure to violence in adolescence at a young age may lead to aggression in school age youths. Aggression and violence may not be as serious for some individuals and it's often considered a part of growing up as a child. Aggression can be understood in a range of ways. It can be conceptualized as ones' personality trait or having origins within a difficult temperament. In other words, aggression and violence within an adolescent can be inherent to the individual. Aggression may also reflect a behavioral pattern that can be attributed to a syndrome, such as Lesch–Nyhan syndrome, which occurs in males. A wide spectrum of aggressive ... Parents and teachers must place children in environments that offer a setting and support for learning positive social behavior rather than aggressive, unfriendly, unsociable acts. Preschoolers are self–centered and have not developed all the brain connections needed to see another's point of view. Preschoolers have that mindset of "mine" which makes it compatible that everything belongs to themselves. Preschoolers or other young children in general see all or nothing. Children do not understand that an individual is not all good or not all bad. Young children also cannot sort out fantasy from reality and get diverse up about what is real on television. The temperament of a terrible two is commonly a completely accepted manner. The aggression behavior linked with these tantrums dealing with throwing objects and kicking is therefore better tolerated. The notion of these specific progressive stages when a child may escalate or decline their aggressions that may cause violence can be supported. Violence has been around us our whole lives and is something that will never come to a stop. Violence will continue through the rest of our lives and the lives to come in the future if someone doesn't step up and try to take a stand. Society's leading problem is violence and can only be helped through the kind of leadership that demonstrates Trust and Integrity, Confidence, and a good communication. First, trust and integrity are one of my three most important qualities that every leader needs to have if they are gonna try to stop violence within our society. Trust and integrity is a key quality on how we can try to stop the problem of violence in our society. Talking about integrity, Oprah Winfrey said: " Real integrity is doing the right, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not." School violence may come in various forms and some of the most common forms of school violence include physical abuses, bullying, brawl and verbal abuses but the most common forms are physical abuses and bullying. The risk of subsequent violence increases when violent students are transferred repeatedly from one school to another (Finley, 2011). Students that drop out of school because of expulsion or suspension are more likely to associate with deviant peers because they have more unstructured time and this can become another problem. Schools should take proactive approaches when dealing with school violence, but mediating in conflicts and counselling indiscipline students are just reactive measures that may end up doing very little to end school violence (Finley, 2011). The success or failure of counseling and mediation also depends on the qualifications and training of the people in charge of such programs. It is in a parent's best interest to play a big role in their child's life. A child learns from examples and by watching as others do. • 73. The Violence Of Domestic Violence Cycle of Violence in Domestic Violence As stated by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, "domestic violence is defined as a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviors and tactics used by one person over another (by or to any household member) to gain power and control. This may include verbal abuse, financial abuse, emotional, sexual, and physical abuse." (The Official Website of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.) Domestic abuse frequently becomes more often and dangerous over time. After researching Lenore E. Walker, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Institute, studied, researched and interviewed hundreds of women victims of domestic violence and came to the conclusion that many violent relationships follow a similar pattern. In 1979, Walker developed a social cycle theory cycle that explains the behaviors involved in a domestic abuse. This cycle developed by her, could take days months or years to develop, it is different for each relationship and not all follow the pattern, and not all necessarily lead to physical abuse. The Cycle of abuse developed by L. E. Walker includes the following 3 phases: Tension building –Tension builds over common domestic, daily problems. Verbal abuse begins. The abused person tries to help the situation by pleasing the abuser, giving in or avoiding the situation, what do not stop the violence. • 77. Violence And Violence : The Prostrence Of Violence Violence – Its Goals Let us study what violence really is, why we become violent, and what we achieve by that. Violence really means unlawful exercise of physical force, or it may be even verbal abuses. Now, let us analyze why we become violent; mostly it has been seen that we become violent when we do not get what we want, or what we demand: whether our demand is right or wrong is a different matter. Maybe, in this context it can be said that, at least sometimes, we do get excited and resort to violence without having enough reason or provocation. However, it is equally true that, sometimes, there really is no other way to present our demands. Sometimes I feel that violence may be justified for instance when our demands are genuine, but, even after many requests they are not given an ear to, so we just have to resort to violence in order to make ourselves be heard by the authorities concerned. It is only our frustration in not being heard that makes us take up the cudgels in a violent manner. However, if we coolly analyze the achievement after a lot of hullabaloo we will surely notice that, we rarely return with a long– standing solution to our problems. Our bouts of violence only lead us to discontent, discord, destruction and even death. Thus, if we analyze with an attitude of understanding, we will mostly realize that violence is not a real achiever. Another flaw in being violent is that, when we are violent, we can only plan destruction. This is because our violent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The road in which The Man and The Boy travel on is chock full of danger, so one could not expect to survive without seeing or performing any acts of violence, for example – as mentioned before – there is danger almost everywhere, including in the cannibals that The Man and The Boy are trying to hide from. However, perhaps the violence that we see in The Road is more justifiable than the violence and warfare that occurs in A Farewell to Arms as in this novel people have to fight and kill in order to survive in the world they live in, instead of just killing in aid of the war. The theme of violence in The Road is apparent when The Man is searching a trailer for supplies, and McCarthy writes: "He wafted away the smoke and looked down into the trailer. The small fire burning in the floor seemed a long way down. He shielded the glare of it with his hand and when he did he could see almost to the rear of the box. Human bodies. Sprawled in every attitude. Dried and shrunken in their rotted clothes. • 85. Violence : The Causes Of Violence And Video Games Not only that, losing in a game invokes the feeling of frustration as well. Similarly, these feelings are often seen in the real world. For example, football watchers often exhibit frustration when their favorite team loses a match against a formidable foe. In few cases, this leads to destroying objects around the house to release the anger that comes from defeat. Similarly, video game players experience frustration such as playing games such as Golf with Friends and fails to perform a hole in one. Thus, this leads to aggressive behavior such as exhibiting profanity. Although unlike football, video games receive backlash from media that they cause violent behavior. Although, Paul Tassi argues that video causes aggressiveness; however, he claims that it comes mostly from the fact that players tend to become frustrated due to losing rather than the content of the game (4). Therefore, the experience of losing causes aggressive behavior rather than the game itself. For example, players can express aggravation when they encounter games like Mario, where they miss to land a jump and fall to their death which results in starting all over from the beginning. Although, some may argue that the frustration creates violent behavior. Although it may be true to a certain degree, this does not mean that everyone will become violent simply from being frustrated. In fact, it mostly depends on the person's tolerances of experiences of failure or lack of mastery. Overall, video games are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 93. Symbolic Violence : The Causes Of Symbolic Violence Often, violence perpetrated against an individual can be so impactful, that they internalized the hate and either misrecognize the root problem or blame themselves for their own suffering. This category of aggression, originally coined by Bourdieu, is referred to as symbolic violence. Manifesting itself in many forms, symbolic violence is "the internalized humiliations and legitimations of inequality and hierarchy ranging from sexism and racism to intimate expressions of class power" (Bourgois 426). Symbolic violence can be any form of oppression so long as it is "exercised through cognition and misrecognition, knowledge and sentiment, with the unwitting consent of the dominated" (Bourdieu 272). The victim transfers the blame away from the aggressor or aggressive system and instead place the blame onto themselves. Victims of rape and aggression having a sense of worthlessness, the poor placing the blame of their poverty onto their own laziness, and inner–city youths assuming that they can only succeed in the drug trade are all ways that symbolic violence can be exhibited in inner–city communities. A common fallacy symbolic violence inflicts upon communities is that the poor are deserving of their fate, and that it is their fault they have not fulfilled the American Dream and raised above poverty. The notion that any person, regardless of race, upbringing, or gender, is capable of pulling themselves up by the bootstraps is so wide spread that "most people in the United Sates ... Meaning violence is a social construction. Violent acts cannot be wholly understood unless we examine them as but one "one link in the chain of a long process of events" (Schmidt & Schröder 2001, 7). Violence and the responses to it are socially constructed, they are phenomena viewed and interpreted in many different ways. For example, individuals become a product of their environment. The lack of parental support, inflected by peers and their community causes youth to act out violently. Every violent experience are molded and locked into the memory of mind. Therefore the social construction of violence and the idea of memory, of recollections of violence in someone life, is crucial to creating youth violence. Violence is corrupting the minds of today's youth and destroying the future. Violence among young people is the most common act of deviance seen today. Youth violence is framed as an epidemic causing a moral panic. Youth violence is examined and labeled in order to construct responses. It shows how the structure of the deviant act is constructed based on the normless and normal behavior in society. Violence : Causes And Effects Of Violence In Adolescents From Criminal Minds, to YouTube videos, to Xbox games, violent behavior is relentlessly represented by multiple types of media sources. Depictions of murders, sexual assaults, fighting and more are now constants in adolescent lives. Is this what causes violence in adolescents? Or is a biological pre–disposition ultimately responsible? These are questions that have been widely debated by many elite health professionals over the years. In Sharon Begley's essay, "Why the Young Kill" she expresses the idea that while adolescent violence is related to exposure to violence due to their surroundings, bad parenting, etc. it is also blatantly evident that biological predisposition is a reality. In Hillary Clinton's speech "Media Violence and Children," she asserts that the enormous amount of violence being reported in the media is affecting the development of the brain and is causing the rise in violence in adolescents. An amalgamation of exposure to traumatic events in childhood, a persistent focus on violence by the media, and a biological predisposition are the key contributing factors that lead to adolescent violence. "Behavior is the result of a dialogue between your brain and your experiences" (Begley 179). Are children born good? The answer to that questions is highly debatable. The general belief seems to be that the media, and parental guidance or lack thereof is to blame for adolescent violence, but this is not the case. However, violence has multiple variations including: mental violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural anthropologists have significantly improved the understanding of. This is someone's ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or practical commitments. (Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being labeled as violence. However, symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states. Symbolic violence is an important tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships of superiors and inferiors. States are able to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own actions are just a reaction to the symbolic violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111) This is where we begin to see the topic of political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it is important to clarify that political violence may or may not be direct violence. Statistics such as this one display the facts about what is shown on television. The National Television Violence Study evaluated nearly 1000 hours of programming over a two year period and found that 61% of that programming contained interpersonal violence (Sclozman, 2002–2003, p 87). Something very provocative about the study was that most of the violence was displayed on children's shows. An article in Pediatrics Magazine states, ".Of all animated feature films produced in the United States between 1937 and 1999, 100% portrayed violence..." ("Pediatrics," 2001). The evidence if irrefutable, Television does display high levels of violence. Not only has it been proven that a large amount of violence is displayed on television, but there has been research that suggests that some children have displayed higher levels of aggression as a result of their exposure to violent programming. A recent Current Events article states, "More than 1000 studies validate the connection between media violence and aggression in some children" ("Current Events," 2001). Although opinions tend to vary about how much a child is affected, studies show that some children are affected so much that they reenact what they saw on television on their peers, and sometimes even their pets. From the time we are born we are equipped with the idea that we must react when we are upset. When someone affects us in a negative way, there is an idea in our minds that urges us to fight back or cause harm to that person. Even worse, there have been over a thousand mass shootings in the country resulting in mass casualties. Most recently, one single man murdered fifty–eight people at a concert in Las Vegas, Nevada and injured over 240 others. Although the motive may have been different between these shootings, one thing remains the same for all of them, the act of violence. If there were one concept I would uninvent from people's minds, it would be the idea of committing violence. As a society we fail to realize there are so many effects that stem from one person's bad thought. . • 153. Gun Violence: The Reality Of School Violence After researching more in depth about school shootings for my last write up, I decided that reading and learning about the reality of school gun violence was important. In the late 1990s there was a downward spiral of youth violence. Suburban areas stayed out of the spotlight, which helped keep the fear of school violence to a minimum and brush under the rug the violence. In non–suburban areas the majority were experiencing gun violence which led to fear in many peoples eyes. The typical schoolyard fights had turned into murders and much more dangerous. There was a line that mentioned students not bringing home homework anymore but coming home with bullet wounds. The amount of school shootings in these non–suburban areas was really reflecting ...
