The Lancet Commission on peaceful societies through health equity and gender ...Pattie Pattie
This document summarizes the key findings of The Lancet Commission on peaceful societies through health equity and gender equality. The Commission examines the interlinkages between health equity, gender equality, and peace. It finds that improvements to health equity and gender equality can place societies on pathways toward peace by transforming capabilities and reinforcing beneficial cycles. However, for meaningful progress, health equity and gender equality processes must be locally-led and context-specific while leveraging global support structures. The Commission calls on policy makers, including in the health sector, to embrace and advance principles of health equity and gender equality.
This speech introduces the 11th Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Conference. It notes that the conference is a side meeting of the annual Prince Mahidol Award Conference hosted by the Royal Thai Government and other partners. The theme of the 2024 conference is "Geopolitics, Human Security and Health Equity in an Era of Polycrises." Seven young physician scholars will present the results of their 12-month research projects conducted under mentors at prominent institutes, and discuss extending the benefits of their work to Thai people and worldwide. The speaker hopes the conference will stimulate discussion and collaboration to improve the Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program.

28. In terms of national performance, France shows the biggest
improvement this year, with all its universities making big gains,
including new entrants Aix-Marseille University (#96) and Sorbonne
University (#56). France has extensively restructured its higher
education system over the past few years, combining smaller
institutions, and the efforts seem to have paid off. In contrast,
Japanese universities continue to lose ground on the global ranking:
Three Japanese universities dropped off the list in 2019, and the
institutions that remained fell an average of 16 places. While Japan
has traditionally been a research powerhouse in the Asia Pacific
region, its universities rely heavily on government spending, and
decades of deflation and economic stagnation have resulted in less
money for research and fewer innovations.
