It defines average effect as the mean deviation from the population mean of individuals with a particular allele from one parent and a random allele from the other parent. Breeding value is defined as the average value of an individual's progeny, which is equal to the sum of the average effects of its alleles. Genotypic value can be partitioned into additive genetic effects, dominance deviations, and interaction deviations. Phenotypic value is the sum of these genetic effects and environmental effects.
