Definition
Instructional video a recording of both the visual and audible
components (especially one containing a recording of a movie or
television program) video - broadcasting visual images of stationary or
moving objects using for educational needs.

Video allows teachers to not only tell students what they need to learn
from a specific lesson, but illustrate examples to help develop
understanding.

Questioners
We made a Questioners about using video in classrooms and we
distributed it to teachers and students to measure how them adapt the
using of video in education.

The Questioners include many questions and we divided in two parts on
for teachers and another for students.

The teachers questions

1- I think that using video in teaching enhance my students
achievement?




2- I have tried to make an instructional video in my classes.
3- I see that the number and quality of videos that ministry of education
provide are enough to me as a teacher.

Studies
Study (1)

A study by Rockman et al. (1996) of the academic impact of home and
school:

 - Students who watched the program were able to provide more
complete and complex explanations of scientific concepts after viewing
the show.

- The gaps in knowledge base between boys and girls and between
minority and majority students were smaller and closer to parity after
viewing the program.
Study (2)

A study of the children’s problem-solving skills (Fisch, 2003).:

Viewers out performed nonveiwers in solving problems and produced
more sophisticated solutions.



Study (3)

 A study on the use of instructional television with eighth grade
students (Barnes, 1997).:

Students in the classes which included the television programming
outperformed the control groups in test scores, writing assignments, in
variety and creativity of problem-solving skills, and in their engagement
in class discussion.

   • Video can grab student’s attention.

   • Video stimulates discussions.

   • Video can appeal to the learning styles of visual learners.

strategies
Strategies that enhance the use of video in your classroom there are:

      Predicting

   • With picture and audio on:

         – Use the pause control to stop a scene and have students
           predict what will happen next.

   • With audio off:

         – Have students predict the situation and characterizations
           based on viewing an entire scene without the sound.

   • With picture off:

         – Have students predict the situation and characterizations by
           listening to the soundtrack without watching the picture.

      Speaking Practice

   • Role Plays: Have students role play a scene, practicing the lines of
     dialogue for correct intonation and emphasis.

   • On-Location Interviews: Have students circulate around the
     classroom and interview each other using questions contained in
     the video segment. Students can then report to the class about
     their interviews.
• Information Gap: Have half the class see a segment without audio
    and the other half hear it without the picture. Students from each
    half of the class then pair up, talk about the situation and
    characters, and act out the scene.

     Discussion

  • Have students discuss the scene, plot and characters' actions,
    thoughts, and feelings.

  • Have students think about what the characters in the scene are
    thinking but not saying. Students can create these interior
    monologues, present them to the class, and discuss any varying
    opinions about characters' inner thoughts during the scene.

  • Have students tell which characters they identify with and explain
    why.

         TeacherTube, is a site where you can host, tag and share
         instructional videos. If you like a video you see you can link
         to it on the TeacherTube site or embed it into a web page or
         blog. It is also a valuable resource of instructional videos.
• National Geographic Video video.nationalgeographic.com/

         National Geographic is the section of the National
         Geographic website devoted to online videos about
         animals, people and places, the environment and more.
         National Geographic Video features short educational
         movies about everything from sharks to Guinness World
         Record Holders .

      classroom video blog

Who It's For:

Teachers and schools will find many beneficial ways to use a vlog.

You need :

• basic consumer camcorder
• computer with free editing software
•   internet connection are all you need.
Video Ideas:

School events: guest speakers, school plays and sports -these events
that would make great videos for a classroom vlog.

Student projects: Let students create videos as special projects or to
demonstrate their mastery of a concept, then post the videos on the
vlog to show off the learning that’s going on in your classroom.

Important lessons: If you’re teaching a key concept that students
may not grasp immediately, consider recording the lesson and
posting it on the vlog. This way, students can go back and re-watch it
later on to clarify anything they missed.

Teaching videos: There are many educational videos available online,
which can be used to supplement lesson plans. Add the videos to the
blog so students can easily find them and watch them.

Using Video In The Classroom

Definition Instructional video a recording of both the visual and audible components (especially one containing a recording of a movie or television program) video - broadcasting visual images of stationary or moving objects using for educational needs. Video allows teachers to not only tell students what they need to learn from a specific lesson, but illustrate examples to help develop understanding. Questioners We made a Questioners about using video in classrooms and we distributed it to teachers and students to measure how them adapt the using of video in education. The Questioners include many questions and we divided in two parts on for teachers and another for students. The teachers questions 1- I think that using video in teaching enhance my students achievement? 2- I have tried to make an instructional video in my classes.

(1996) of the academic impact of home and school: - Students who watched the program were able to provide more complete and complex explanations of scientific concepts after viewing the show. - The gaps in knowledge base between boys and girls and between minority and majority students were smaller and closer to parity after viewing the program.
  • 5. Study (2) A study of the children’s problem-solving skills (Fisch, 2003).: Viewers out performed nonveiwers in solving problems and produced more sophisticated solutions. Study (3) A study on the use of instructional television with eighth grade students (Barnes, 1997).: Students in the classes which included the television programming outperformed the control groups in test scores, writing assignments, in variety and creativity of problem-solving skills, and in their engagement in class discussion. Advantages • Video can be utilized to illustrate how something works . • Video provides information in detail that text and graphic cannot. • Video can grab student’s attention. • Video can show real life examples. • Video stimulates discussions. • Video can appeal to the learning styles of visual learners. • Video could enhance problem-based learning.
  • 6. challenges • Lake of resources. • Lake of equipment. • Lake of required software. • Technical problems. • Lake of legibility of audio and visuals. strategies Strategies that enhance the use of video in your classroom there are: Predicting • With picture and audio on: – Use the pause control to stop a scene and have students predict what will happen next. • With audio off: – Have students predict the situation and characterizations based on viewing an entire scene without the sound. • With picture off: – Have students predict the situation and characterizations by listening to the soundtrack without watching the picture. Speaking Practice • Role Plays: Have students role play a scene, practicing the lines of dialogue for correct intonation and emphasis. • On-Location Interviews: Have students circulate around the classroom and interview each other using questions contained in the video segment. Students can then report to the class about their interviews.
  • 7. • Information Gap: Have half the class see a segment without audio and the other half hear it without the picture. Students from each half of the class then pair up, talk about the situation and characters, and act out the scene. Discussion • Have students discuss the scene, plot and characters' actions, thoughts, and feelings. • Have students think about what the characters in the scene are thinking but not saying. Students can create these interior monologues, present them to the class, and discuss any varying opinions about characters' inner thoughts during the scene. • Have students tell which characters they identify with and explain why. National Geographic Video features short educational movies about everything from sharks to Guinness World Record Holders . classroom video blog Who It's For: Teachers and schools will find many beneficial ways to use a vlog. You need : • basic consumer camcorder • computer with free editing software • internet connection are all you need. Video Ideas: School events: guest speakers, school plays and sports -these events that would make great videos for a classroom vlog. Student projects: Let students create videos as special projects or to demonstrate their mastery of a concept, then post the videos on the vlog to show off the learning that’s going on in your classroom. Important lessons: If you’re teaching a key concept that students may not grasp immediately, consider recording the lesson and posting it on the vlog. This way, students can go back and re-watch it later on to clarify anything they missed. Teaching videos: There are many educational videos available online, which can be used to supplement lesson plans. Add the videos to the blog so students can easily find them and watch them.
