USING AUDIOVISUAL RESOURCES IN
        THE CLASSROOM

                    Bognor Regis, July 2012
Why should we include
      Audio-Visual Resources in our classes?

1. Audio-visual resources can greatly enrich the everyday classroom.

     Real English situation.
     Real songs, documentaries, films, etc.
     Real examples.

2. Audio-visual resources can enhance teaching methods and improve
     student comprehension.

3. Audio-visual resources should be tailored for a particular audience
depending on the level (of the students).

4. Audio-visual resources can be an important tool focussing on the
     students’ interests.
Why should not we include
  Audio-Visual Resources in our classes?
 Non motivating contents.

 Abuse of these resources.

 Not focus on the aim.

 Non adapted resources.
What to consider …
VISUAL AND AUDIO RESOURCES (FILMS, VIDEOS …)
• Quality:
 It should sounds properly
It should have good image definition

Ideas for activities
We can use the interactive whiteboard:
    - As a tool for the whole session
    - For a specific video activity
In this case it has been particularly difficult to find videos on the internet because i´ts difficult
to find videos for 11-12 year old L2 learners.

• Idea ONE is to watch a video from the internet:

• 1st I´m going to use the IWB to give them instructions of the activity as a
    traditional blackboard

• 2nd I´m going to use the IWB to watch a video from the internet

http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/kids-talk/do-you-cooking

• 3rd With this video you can download the transcription and a word search.

• 4th And after the word search and after watching the video again,
they have a list of food words which ss can group in the food pyramid.
Idea TWO
1st After working on food or as an introduction. Watch
a recipe from youtube “recipes for children”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo1VyPEKw0Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hEgufgam4A&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx0jaTiFVbc&feature=endscreen&NR=1

2nd This is a real recipe so students can make the list of
ingredients.

3rd After this, they can make their own recipe and
filmed if possible to watch it in class.
