How did you use media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages
• Before I started this course I had very limited skills with editing
softwares. I knew how to use photoshop for basic purposes and I had
never used any video editing softwares, so the editing side of this was
very new to me. We managed to use the softwares as best as we
could in order to construct a narrative from our music video. Adobe
Premier Pro was used to edit the video side of the production and
Adobe Photoshop was used to create the poster and digipack. We
needed to crop some shots as the ratios weren’t correct and we also
had to extract it in the best possible quality. We were helped by
students doing similar courses as us with better editing experiences
too. We had to learn how to crop shots and we had to match them up
the best that we could so that the lip movements were genuine.
• We used a Canon 600D is a camera capable of recording at 720p and
1080p at 30 frames per second. Although the fps isn’t really
important in this case we wanted the best possible quality which is
why we used this camera. We used natural lighting and artificial
lighting when filming. In the TV studio we had to use 3 point lighting
and fill lighting. Outside filming in the studio all the lighting was
natural lighting. We had to use a tripod when filming at all times
because we needed the camera to be as stable as possible. When
filming in the studio, we had to angle the lights so that we had a
certain level of brightness when the performer was performing.
• We did encounter a few hindrances while creating our products. The
biggest one was that me and my partner were both not that literate
when it came to using the video editing softwares so our post filming
work was bound not to be the best. Another one was the time factor;
with the performer not being available and having to refilm over bad
footage, we found that we were struggling to complete all our
products in time. Another one was that the computers that had the
editing softwares were only available in college and outside of college
it was impossible for us to get any editing done.
• There was the use of social media in order to share the music video
and to get as much feedback as possible. Since the music video was
uploaded to YouTube, comments were enabled therefore anybody
who watched it was free to give their feedback. I shared the video on
Facebook so my friends could view it and give feedback on there.
• There are many web browsers that one can use when researching and
I used Google Chrome and Safari both because those are the two I
use the most in day to day life and I understand them the best.
Wordpress itself is a form of technology we used to upload all our
work on and so people could view the blogs as they pleased
