How did you use media technologies
in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
Before creating the music video, we had to research into
others to get an overall understanding of how to make a
successful music video. We used websites like YouTube,
Google and various other websites. The internet is often
disregarded, due to it becoming a part of everyday life,
but without it, we would have never been able to make a
successful music video. We also opted to use social
networks like Twitter and Facebook to received audience
feedback, as our target audience use these websites
regularly and it is easier for us to ask them questions than
going out to ask them.

To produce our digipak poster and album cover, we had
the privilege to use professional industry applications such
as Photoshop. Such technology is very reliable, and also
due to it being used in various media industries makes it
extremely professional. Photoshop allowed me to have
creative freedom, as you can do virtually anything to the
pictures, like fading, blending, removing background, re-
colouring and more. It allowed me to improve my images
in post-production stage, such as adding filters and
tweaking with contrast and brightness, giving it a more
professional look.

Concerning the filming part of our music video, we
used various technologies. For example, we used two
different cameras, one being a regular HD digital
camera and the other being a more professional
DSLR camera called Canon 600D. The first camera
was great considering what it actually was, but as we
continued to shoot we realised that certain scenes
required a higher spec of a camera, thus us choosing
to use the DSLR in some scenes, leading to a clearer
resolution.

In the music video, we decided to incorporate a club
scene. We knew that it would have some limitations, due
to it having to be shot in the dark. This just was not
acceptable, and with guidance, we found a solution. To
make it lighter, we used umbrella lighting, that way it
would light up the room and we would be able to focus the
light in the direction we needed. The lighting made the
scene look that little bit more professional, accompanied
with the high res camera gave the club scene a more
authentic look, and made it even look like we had a lot of
people in the scene when we really did not. This is also a
result of framing.

LIGHTING
When we were filming the music video, we used a
range of different equipment. The most obvious being
a tripod. The reason for using a tripod is to give the
product a more professional appearance, and that
more sophisticated. We also used a Dolly with the
tripod, as we wanted to track the camera in certain
parts, and by using the Dolly made it look smooth.
Opting to use the best equipment we could, gave us
that professional look we aimed for.

Now, in the post-production stage aka editing, just like the
digipaks we used professional software. We used a programme
called Final Cut Pro. This is an important aspect in terms of
technology we used in the project, as it allowed us to refrain
from using basic editing software's and go for a more exciting
and sophisticated programme. Not only that, I was able to use
my previous knowledge from last years project, as I used Adobe
After Effects last year, and I applied that knowledge from last
year and used it effectively for the music videos. I used this for
the artist logo and song name when it appears in the music
video, as I didn’t want it to look static and wanted it to be
animated, which is what After Effects allows.

EDITING
As a whole, our group decided that we wanted our
products to be the best it could possibly be, and that
meant that we would have to use the best possible
technologies and equipment. I believe, in terms of my own
work, that my digipak and posters look very professional,
and would look realistic if placed in the outside world.
Also, for the music video, I believe it looks sophisticated
and people would assume that it was a real music video,
which some people have done so, which is what we
wanted to achieve from the start. I am very pleased with
the outcome of my work and what my group has done.
FINALE PT 1
If I were to go back and re-do this course, I would
make sure we filmed on the DSLR camera right from
the get go, that way it would look very professional
throughout, but I am still pleased with the way it turned
out regardless. I also would make sure that we put
more time into planning stage, and try to not rush onto
the recording of the video. Finally, I would make sure
we mix up our roles and try something different, giving
everyone in the group to showcase a different variety
of skills.
