SOGARIS presents solutions adapted for the city of tomorrow. They share their freight strategy, logistical platform and give us a sneak peek at their multi-modal logistics hotel in Paris.
Urban Logistics offers unique tailor-made solutions for the transport of goods in cities by consolidating & rationalizing the existing logistics platforms and creating innovative solutions for the future through the use of information and communication technologies.
Over the past two decades delivering goods into cities has become a challenge with cities getting overly congested and traffic jams resulting in expensive logistics bottlenecks. Studies show that the cost of congestion now in terms of time wasted in traffic and fuel consumption is off the roof, almost 200% more than what it was in the 1980s. Pollution, lack of parking bays, and warehousing costs are all restraints that are contributing to the economic cost of urban logistics.
This presentation, part of a class work of Erwan Le Roc'h, Antony Zouzout and Rémi Philippe at ESSEC will explore the possibilities and ideal mix for this kind of project.
This document analyzes the trend of urbanization and the need for city distribution centers. It notes that urbanization is increasing globally, with more people living in cities. This trend will impact logistics and supply chain management by increasing traffic congestion. To address these issues, city distribution centers close to consumers' markets are needed, which can consolidate goods and enable more efficient transportation while reducing environmental impacts. Examples from DHL and other companies demonstrate how distribution centers have improved delivery efficiency and truck utilization. The roles of both the private sector and local authorities in managing city distribution are also discussed.
The Urban Logistics report highlights the huge demand across key European centres in the next four years to meet the exponential growth of e-commerce - parcel deliveries are expected to rise by 69% in volume by 2021 - and the resultant need for last mile delivery in cities.
Urban consolidation centres aim to rationalize last mile deliveries and decrease total vehicle kilometres for urban freight transport. However, their long-term viability is difficult to reach due to challenges with commercial feasibility, additional transhipment costs, and allocating costs and benefits across stakeholders. Recently, new concepts have emerged like downscaling centres, reducing infrastructure needs, receiver-based centres, and better supply chain integration including night deliveries to centres.

The document discusses the state of transport procurement in the UK logistics industry. It notes that transport is typically a high spend category that is driven more by operational needs than commercial considerations. While the industry has modernized in some ways with new technologies and practices, many transport procurement functions remain administratively heavy and lack strategic focus on costs. The document also provides data on the size and structure of the UK logistics market, including the major 3PL providers and trends regarding fleet sizes and vehicle types. It argues that transport procurement could be improved by taking a more commercial, strategic approach focused on understanding costs and benchmarking performance.
The document discusses the hospitality industry, which includes food and beverage service, accommodation, meetings and events, gaming, entertainment, recreation, and tourism services. It notes the various types of hotels and properties in the industry. The remainder of the document presents survey results related to customer preferences and satisfaction regarding factors like food quality, location, security, parking, room service, food pricing, staff service, and likelihood to return to the same hotel. It concludes by stating that the hospitality industry is one of Pakistan's fastest growing industries and that increasing awareness of hospitality programs and careers could boost foreign investment and tourism.
This document provides an overview of logistic regression, including:
- Logistic regression models the log-odds of an outcome as a linear combination of predictors.
- Maximum likelihood estimation is commonly used to estimate the coefficients by maximizing the log-likelihood.
- There are many implementation decisions regarding goals, data handling, and desired outputs that impact the appropriate modeling approach. Regularization is also an important consideration.
In Europe’s cities ‘same-day delivery’, last-mile fulfilment and urban logistics’ unique challenges will fundamentally change the types of distribution properties required.

Congility 2013 - Content Strategy and The Bullwhip EffectEqual Experts
NB. The slides don't make much sense if you weren't there (I'm working on that).
What job are we going to be asking 'content' to do over the next few years? And how will we be able to avoid 'The Bullwhip Effect' (and having to carry out ineffective content strategy projects every few years).
Imagine if 'management' was considered on a purely project-by-project basis? How would this affect the way organisations are run?
Three propositions:
- Passive and Assistive content will become huge
- Content Strategy becomes infrastructurally foxy
- "Content" eats everything
And a prediction that Content Strategy will leave the authors behind and become a development team sport.

The bullwhip effect refers to larger swings in inventory levels and orders as one moves up the supply chain away from the customer. It occurs as each company amplifies the fluctuations in customer demand when placing orders with its suppliers. This results in excess and insufficient inventory levels throughout the supply chain. The bullwhip effect is caused by factors like forecast errors, batch ordering, pricing variations, and a lack of demand information sharing between supply chain partners. To reduce the bullwhip effect, companies should improve communication, demand forecasting, information sharing, and move towards a demand-driven supply chain model.
The document discusses the bullwhip effect in supply chains. It describes how demand variability increases as it moves up the supply chain from retailers to manufacturers. This occurs through factors like order batching, shortage gaming, and demand forecast inaccuracies. Countermeasures to reduce the bullwhip effect include vendor managed inventory programs, electronic data interchange for ordering, and sharing demand information. The bullwhip effect can increase costs and lower revenues for all members of the supply chain.

Cushman & Wakefield’s ‘Urban Space Model’ forecasts a 69% increase in parcel ...CEO Magazyn Polska
A huge increase in urban logistics property space is required across key centres across Europe in the next few years to meet the exponential growth of eCommerce and the resultant need for last mile delivery in cities, according to a new research report from Cushman & Wakefield.
The Urban Logistics report uses Cushman & Wakefield’s ‘Urban Space Model’ – developed in partnership with P3 Logistic Parks – to quantify total urban logistics space requirements in Europe’s top eCommerce markets based on current and future online sales volumes.
This new property sub-sector, from which the report takes its name, has emerged to meet the rapid growth in parcel deliveries. The ‘Urban Space Model’ expects delivery volumes across Europe to increase by a further 69% by 2021, with variations by market impacting space required. Its methodology includes a number of inputs and assumptions based on actual urban logistics practices and current online transactional data.
Саммит ТПП С-6 в Берлине: Презентация ТПП ПарижаMoscowCCI

MobiWallet - Curent Status & AchievementsMobiWallet
In this slideshare we present MobiWallet project and the interoperable fare management activities that are being carried out across Europe in 4 pilot.
All the pilots have entered in the deployment phase using different technologies and addressing different multiple transport modes but sharing the same approach, methodology and common vision towards achieving interoperability at pilot level, and, ultimately, at cross border level.
The document discusses opposition to construction projects in France that blocks about 30% of annual housing production. It notes the direct consequences for city administrations, real estate builders, and citizens. Traditional solutions proposed include amending laws, negotiating with opponents, better compensating owners, and carrying out work despite litigation. A new proposed solution is to engage stakeholders in urban planning decisions using open, collaborative digital tools to help future inhabitants provide input, give owners a voice, and ensure consensus. This approach could also generate early market research to reduce investment risks. The company OpenPi develops such tools to include populations in decision making through virtual city models.

This document discusses the development of the Monaco SUMO Traffic (MoST) Scenario, which aims to create a realistic mobility simulation scenario for the city of Monaco that integrates vehicles as well as vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. The scenario is being built using data from sources like OpenStreetMap and government agencies. While an initial scenario has been created in SUMO, challenges remain in accurately representing Monaco's complex multidimensional road network and generating realistic mobility patterns without access to detailed real-world traffic data from Monaco. Future work will focus on improving the scenario's integration of infrastructure and mobility models as well as studying applications involving vulnerable road users and alternative transportation modes.
Smart Cities and Measurable Cities - a technological perspectiveSpeck&Tech
Smart cities utilize digital technologies and data to improve city operations and services for residents. A smart city requires measuring various city data through sensors and IoT devices. This data helps optimize areas like transportation, infrastructure, and public services. However, collecting and sharing large amounts of citizen data also raises privacy and security issues. Creating an open yet secure city data platform that many stakeholders can access presents technological and coordination challenges. Overall, smart cities aim to enhance life for residents through data-driven improvements, but achieving this vision requires addressing numerous technical, social, and governance complexities.
