It is a colored substance which is spread over a surface and is left to dry
to leave a thin decorative, colored and protective coating film.
COMPONENTS OF PAINTS
o BASE PIGMENTS: Provides opacity and
color.
o SOLVENT: Reduces the thickness of the
paints.
o ADDITIVES: Changes the properties of
paints in order to suit different needs.
o RESIN/BINDER: Aids to keep the
pigment in place.
o EXTENDER: Increases the bulk volume
of the paint and improves bonding.

 The majority of wall paint sold today is
water-based.
 It comes in the range of cheap to highly
expensive luxury qualities.
 It is suitable for interior as well as exterior
walls.
 Requires lesser time than oil paints to dry.
 Maintains its original color for longer
period of time.
 It is more durable but takes longer time
to dry.
 It is durable but it changes its original
color after the years passes.
 It can be used on walls ,ceilings, doors,
windows, art craft items etc.
 It comes in three finishes i.e. high
gloss, satin and matt.
 It is made with either alkyd or linseed
oils.

MANUFACTURE PROCESS OF PAINT
Varnish is a transparent, hard, protective finish or film primarily used in wood finishing. It is a
combination of a drying oil, a resin, and a thinner or solvent.
 It is used to intensify or brighten the appearance of natural grains in wood.
To protect painted surface from atmospheric action.
 It is eco- friendly.
 It gives thicker finish.
 It should form a hard film on drying.
 It should not crack on drying.
 It should be durable and water resistant.
 It should give uniform and pleasing appearance.
 It should dry rapidly..
 It should not hide the natural grains of the inner surface of timber.
