Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.

To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.
2. INTRODUCTION
◈Paint is a solution of a pigment in
water, oil, or organic solvent, used to
cover wood or metal articles either for
protection or for appearance.
◈For different surfaces different types
of paints from different companies are
used.
◈Some of the leading companies of
India are Asian paints, nerolac,
berger, nippon etc.
5. Oil paint
◈The oil paints are used for painting wooden and
metallic surfaces.
◈ In these paints various oils like linseed oil, poppy
oil and castor oil etc. are used as carrier.
Applications of Oil paints
Oil paint is used in finishing and
protection of wood in buildings .
Due to its slow-drying properties,
it has recently been used in paint-
on-glass animation.
6. Synthetic Paints
◈These paints sets very quickly and
offering durability.
◈They also have a better flow and
are easier to apply.
◈Drying is by evaporation of the
solvent, by oxidation and chemical
change.
Application of Synthetic paints
It is applied on surfaces which may
not be completely dry e.g. Fresh
concrete.
7. Emulsion Paints
◈These paints are formed by mixing oil/water
and an emulsifying agent to prevent the
combination separating.
◈These paints are washable and have a
greater overall decorative appeal.
◈As per requirement both interior and exterior
emulsion paints exist.
Application of Emulsion paints
Emulsion paints are used to paint interior
walls, ceilings, exterior wall and
facades.
8. Enamel paint
◈Enamels are hard, washable and
usually glossy paints.
◈They can be oil based or alkyd based
Applications of enamel paints
The enamel paints are used not
only on metal surfaces but also
on interior walls and wooden
surfaces.
9. Cement Paints
◈This paint consist of white cement, pigment,
accelerator, and other additives.

including furnishings and on the surface
of metals.
The aluminum paint is widely used for
painting gas tanks, hot water pipes,
radiators, etc.
Applications of aluminum paints

◈It is water base paint which contains plastics .
◈This paint is durable and can be washed.
◈They can be easily applied on the plastered walls.
◈Plastic paints are used wherever high class work is
required, such as sophisticated buildings, show-
rooms, theatres and auditoriums.
11
12. Characteristics of good paints
◈It should give a thin and uniform coating.
◈ It should be hard and durable on drying.
◈The painted surface should not crack on drying.
◈ It should be resistant to weathering and corrosive action.
◈ It should be water-repellent (except water paints).
◈ It should have good spread.
◈It should have good adhesive power. It should give a good
finish with attractive color, design and appearance.
◈The colors should be fast and permanent.
13. Defects in Paints
◈Bleeding: Discoloration of paint film due to pigment seeping to the
surface from undercoats or gum from knots in timber.
◈Blistering: Formation of small areas of swelling on the surface
caused by painting in the direct heat of the sun or from trapped
moisture, seeping through to the surface or from corrosion sites.
◈Blooming: It is the mistiness which can appear on varnished or
highly glossed surfaces. It is due to the presence of moisture,
draughts or frost during application or condensation on newly painted
areas. Remedy is to repaint.
◈Chalking: It is the powdering of a paint film usually on exposed
outside surfaces. It is a sign that repainting is necessary and may be
due to poor quality paint.
14. ◈Cissing: It is the shrinking of a paint film usually in quite
small, but sometimes large areas. It is often due to a greasy
undercoat or lack of key between coats.
◈Cracking: It starts as fine hair cracks and may turn to
flaking. It can be due to lack of elasticity in the finishing coat.
◈Wrinkling: It is due to incorrect application and excess of
paint which forms “runs” on the surface. Remedy is to rub
down and start again.
◈Brush Marks: These may be due to the paint being too stiff,
by poor workmanship or by brushing over paint which has
partially set
15. Varnishes
◈The term ‘Varnish’ is used to indicate the solution
of resin or resinous substances prepared either in
alcohol, oil or turpentine.
◈Varnishes are used to give a transparent film to a
surface.
These
are of
two
types
Oil
varnish
Contains oil as
base material.
Drying by
evaporation of oil.
Spirit
varnish
Contains sprit as
base material.
Drying by oxidation of
sprites.
Used on internal
surfaces like furniture.
16. Characteristics of varnishes
◈Transparent
◈Hard
◈Protective finishes
◈It is a combination of a drying oil, a resin, and a thinner or
solvent.
Properties of varnishes
It should dry rapidity.
It should form a hard film on drying.
It should not crack on drying. It should have sufficient elasticity.
It should be durable and weather resistant.
It should give and uniform pleasing.

◈Distempers are durable and economical
water based Paints

and ceilings and most of them give a flat
finish.

two
types

DISTEMPER
Water based distemper
which contain some
drying oil.

◈It was made from the extensive gypsum
deposits of Montmartre in Paris.
Uses of Plaster of Paris
Plaster in building material used for the
protective or decorative coating of walls and
ceiling and for moulding and casting
decorative elements.
It is widely used for making false ceiling.
