Homer H. Hickam, Jr. was born on February 19, 1943, he was Elsie Hickam s second son He was
raised in coal wood, West Virginia. He graduated from Big Creek High School in 1960 and he
graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) in 1964 with his BS degree in
Industrial Engineering. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Hickam served in the army as a First
Lieutenant in the Fourth Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1967 1968 where he bravely won the
Army Commendation and Bronze Star medals. He served six years in the army, leaving with the
rank of captain. Homer Hickam is best known for his book called Rocket Boys, which later was
the basis for the movie October Sky, Homer Hadley Hickam Jr. gained both world wide
recognition as an author and professional respect as an aerospace engineer. He was first assigned
to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Madison county, in the early 1970s, then he went and worked at

America s space program. Homer formed a rocket club with all of his friends. It was called the
the Big Creek Missile Agency. They began to build and launch rockets. The group s first launch

Authors investigated that sometimes low fit members may contain some significant
information and to avoid such loss, tournament selection based probability scheme was used in
lieu of fitness proportionate probability scheme so that even the individuals with low fitness
may get a chance to update their location. In 2017, A. Sharma, et al. [32] in Power law based
local search in spider monkey optimization for lower order system modeling suggested new
search ability in Spider Monkey Optimization named Power law based local search (PLLS). In
this, the step size is iteratively decreased to exploit and identify the search region in the periphery
of the best candidate solution. Paper additionally recommended that by the incorporation of power
law based local search strategy, exploitation capability can be enhanced. To check the
competitiveness of the proposed strategy, different tests like Mann Whitney U rank sum test,
Boxplots, Acceleration Rate etc. were executed. To check the robustness of the strategy, it was
applied to solve the lower order system modeling problems. The proposed PLSMO was applied on
four higher order complex systems to get the respective lower order systems. The algorithm might
be considered as a focused technique in investigating the parameters during system modeling
problems. As per No Free Lunch theorem, no specific algorithm

Rome And Japan Military Comparison Essay
Military in Rome and Japan were alike, but they had their differences. Romans were in a lot of
wars, so they needed a strong military. Japan had a strong military. The trainers had very strict
rules. Rome and Japan were very feared civilizations.
Military in ancient Rome helped the civilization become very strong. The Romans were
originally a group of three tribes. Not a lot is know of this time period because all of Rome s
records were destroyed by the Celtic Invasion. The early Romans would fight with slings and
javelins and possibly bows. In this early time they were ruled by Etruscans their more advanced
northern neighbors. Romans worked by putting in new roads on the civilizations they conquered.
Romans left their marks by putting in roads, depots, and bases in the conquered civilizations

By the fourth century AD Japan was ruled by an enemy civilization, and they still rule Japan
today. In 1185 the Minamoto clan lead by Yoritomo Minamoto defeated their enemy the Taira
clan. In 1192 the imperial court granted Yoritomo the spot as general, and gave him permission
to start a government. After the Eastern Europe, the army of Kublai Khan attacked Japan in
1274. The Japanese always fought on foot. Women were allowed to be in the military. Uniforms
for the Samurai were made out of leather, and their weapons were called katana and wakizashi.
They were always worn together, and they helped them in battle. They were used to kill
opponents from farther away and shorter away by cutting their opponents. The katana was the
long sword, and the wakizashi was the shorter sword. If the Samurai won a war they would earn a
big piece of land for them and their family. Japan s army changed from having one hundred men to

Research Paper On Pyrrolo
5.1. Introduction to Pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline
The chemistry of fused nitrogen heterocycles is very important because of their occurrence in
numerous natural products and their versatile applications in the pharmaceutical industry and
materials science 1. Among various synthetic approaches for fused nitrogen heterocycles,
pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinolines and their oxidized and reduced forms are widespread among natural
products and biologically active pharmaceuticals 2. Moreover, the skeleton of pyrrolo[1,2
a]quinoline exists in many biologically active natural alkaloids such as gephyrotoxin (Fig. 5.1),
which is a substituted perhydropyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline that was isolated by Daly and co workers in
1977 from secretions of the frog Dendrobates histrionics 3 Moreover, the isolation of gephyrotoxin

Local Area Network ( Lan )
Local Area Network (LAN) Local Area Network connects the computer hardware (i.e. Server,
Printer, or Personal Computers) together withing localized area such as office building or
home. The LAN is most often connected by wire (Martin, 2016). It is the smallest network
generally (Frenzel, 2007). Pros One of the advantages of LAN is the speed (1000mbps), the
small number of devices on LAN bring fewer problems like transmission errors. If LAN requires
a couple of extra devices it is not very expensive(Jasujaved and Sehgal, 2016). The LAN can
offer resources like printers or storage to all users. Every node can have access to every file.
(Revision World, 2007) Cons The issues may arise when a number of people are sending prints
ques to appear. Network security might be and issue, in the instance where computer virus gets
inside of the network all computers will probably to get infected. Hardware cost can be costly
when setting up a new network from scratch. Failure of central server affects all nodes in the
network. (Revision World, 2007) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Metropolitan Area
Network is a smaller collection of LAN networks generally covering an area of cities or towns.
MANs usually use fiber optic rings spanning the cities. The example of MAN can be cable TV
(Frenzel, 2007). The government, military or large universities are example users of the MAN.
Pros Extends the capability of LANs by connecting them into a bigger network (i.e. localized

Integration of Women into the Armed Forces Essay
Today s military includes women who train at boot camps, serve on warships and fly combat
planes. Women currently represent fifteen percent of military personnel, and their presence is
increasing among new recruits, up twenty five percent in the A ir Force. Among officers and
enlisted personnel, fifty five percent, or 107, 733 women report some form of sexual harassment.
Recent accusations of sexual misconduct against drillsergeants at the Aberdeen Proving Ground,
and a separate case against Ser geant Major Gene McKinney of the US Army, have some people
questioning whether integrationof women in the militaryhas been successful. In addition to sexual
harassment, gender integration issues include ingrained cultural patterns,... Show more content on

The Army examination of the drill sergeant selection sys tem found it did not consider a candidate
s maturity or complete a thorough background check. There was no close investigation of
instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some
of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of
sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army
investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19).
Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the
military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to
resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of
the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs
contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These
issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial
of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ritchie explains that fear of sexual
harassment in the military is elevated due to a drill sergeant creed of I am Mother, I am Father, and
God to recruits (qtd. Sciolino, pg. A14). Furthermore, the military structure is so

Proposal Essay Depression
Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience,
like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one s shoulders.
It can affect one s experience of the world: if it s sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if
it s gray, the gray gets heavier.
Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil?
How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it?
First, it s important to know the difference between the winter blues, an occasional down day, a
week when you re just feeling off, and longer lasting, biologically based depression.
Depression is a whole body illness, involving your thoughts, mood and ... Show more content on

I do recommend anything by Bill Withers, especially the soulful Lean on Me ( Sometimes in our
lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but if we are wise, we know that there s always
tomorrow... ).
One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray s Drift Away ( And when I m feeling blue, a guitar
s comin through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you ve given me... ). Sometimes music can be
used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep
anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige s No
More Cryin from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album
are Take Me As I Am and Good Woman Down. Finally, because depression can also stem from
fear, I recommend listening to Mindkiller, by Adam Freeland off of his Now and
Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, Fear is the mind
killer. Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you feel
safe in handling the vehicle. You can take your music with you, head east, then turn back toward
the Front Range to give yourself full view of the area s jagged, snow covered peaks. Or
Asmus, page 3 drive right up into the mountains, allowing the music to serve as a soundtrack for

Trauma can be described as a severe emotional or mental distress caused by an experience that
impedes one s ability to cope. According to the American Psychiatric Association (2000), Traumatic
experiences can significantly alter a person s perception of themselves, their environment and the
people around them. Traumatic experiences can manifest itself and, in turn, have a greater impact
on one s ability to function. The ongoing effects of trauma and the intensity of the experience as
stated by Evans and Coccoma (2014), can have an impact on all aspects of human life that is

The Controversy Of Organ Donation In China
Lawmakers should pass a motion urging China to immediately put a stop on the alleged forced
organ harvesting of Christian prisoners, according to two Canadian lawyers who brought the claims
to Australia s Parliament House.
On Monday, human rights lawyer David Matas and former prosecutor David Kilgour came to
Australia s House of Parliament claiming to have evidence of China performing between 60,000
and 100,000 organ transplants every year. The Canadian lawyers say the only plausible explanation
for the source of the harvested organs is the killing of Christians, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan
Buddhist, and Falun gong practitioners, The Associated Press (AP) relays.
However, Matas and Kilgour did not present proof of the alleged organ sourcing. This is not the
first time that such claims have been made, but the opacity of China s legal system does not allow
much room for independent verification of the said issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How To Increase Crime In America
There are many time periods that I am fond of but I think my favorite time period is the 1950s. I
think I would be happy during that time period because everything was simpler and more safe.
Children could play outside without their parent worrying because most people just left them
alone and kidnapping was unheard of. Most people also lived in the suburbs and I think I would be
able to fit into that life nicely. I already live next to my grandparents and one of my brothers so
living next to more nice people would not have been a problem for me. Elvis was also live alive
and rock and roll was too. The music was more pure and pleasant back then, not like the music we
have now. Everything was also much cheaper. Gas was 20 cents a gallon versus... Show more

The baby boom occurred at this time because many Americans believed that since the war was
over all the bad times were also over. There was an increase in the national gross product mostly
from the construction of roads and other national improvements. Wages were high and most
people had jobs so there was more money that people had access to. People were able to spend
more money for things they like and there were many advancements that gave them things to
want. There was also a civil rights movement that was becoming popular and was flourishing.
Separate but equal facilities were ruled against the law so the integration of African Americans
into white facilities began. Nonviolent resistance was common unlike today when protests are
more frequent than peaceful protests. There was not as much anger between the races as there is
now but instead there was a sense of dissatisfaction. Nonviolent protests were still the most
popular form of expression even with the level of satisfaction that was present. The violent
protests that occur now are probably due to the higher crime rate. Protests now also involve theft
as well as the violence toward cops and even regular citizens. While the protest is going on the
focus of the policemen are on the main group of protestors small groups of thieves break into
nearby stores and take merchandise

Chiquita Banana Case
a. How did the Common Market Organization for Bananas ( CMOB ) affect Chiquita?
Six firms dominated the banana industry in the early 1990 s, three from Europe and three from the
United States. In 1994, the three United States producers, Chiquita, Dole, and Del Monte,
accounted for approximately 72.4% of world banana sales. Chiquita accounted for 48% of
worldwide banana sales and 66.4% of banana sales of the three U.S. producers.
Prior to 1994, Europe accounted for nearly 40% of world banana imports by volume, of which
roughly 60% came from Latin America, the primary location of Chiquita Brand International s
banana production. However, in 1993, a common banana import policy, council Regulation (EEC)

Since those numbers were not available in the case, we chose to compare the prices and
consumption of bananas in Germany versus France prior to CMOB taking effect. (move to an
end note: Germans, residents of the only free market for bananas in Europe, consumed 16.6 kg
of bananas per capita at an average price per ton of 438 of ECU in 1991 while the French,
residents of Europe s most protective market, consumed 8 kg of bananas per capita with average
price per ton of 604 ECU. (case p 7). The percentage change in price from France to Germany is
(604 ECU 438 ECU)/438 ECU, which equals .379. The percentage change in quantity from
France to Germany is (8 kg 16.6 kg)/16.6 Kg, which equals .518. The absolute value of the
percentage change in quantity over the percentage change in price is 1.3.) That calculation showed
European demand to be elastic at 1.3, so for every 1% change in price, the quantity demanded will
change 1.3%.
c. What are the supply side constraints in the banana market? The slope of the supply curve
demonstrates how quickly a supplier can react to a change in prices. The following issues can
affect the slope of the banana supply curve:

Hamlet And Religion Essay
The Religion of Shakespeare
When studying the plays of Shakespeare, primarily Hamlet, it is easy to see Shakespeare had a deep
respect and understanding of Christianity. During the 1600 s, the time in which Hamlet was
created, Christianity was split into two main religious groups. One of these groups was Catholicism,
which was discriminated against, and the other Protestantism. Protestants were the group of
Christians created when the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the
Roman Catholic Church. Those individuals protested the rule of the Catholic Church, hence being
called Protestants. During this time period, in hopes of deterring the return of the Catholic Church

Hamlet includes thoughts on mortality, the afterlife, suicide, and the consequences of an
individual s actions. Hamlet mulls over the idea of suicide in his To be or not to be soliloquy.
As he cannot be certain what will happen to his spirit after death, he does not follow through
with this thought. In the Christian religion it is understood only God can give and take life. And
said, Naked came I out of my mother s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and
the Lord taketh away: blessed be the name of the Lord. (KJV Job 1:21). Suicide is ungodly to
Christian s because it rejects God s gift of life. This concern with the destination of one s spirit
shows Hamlet to be aware and concerned for his spirit (soul). Shakespeare adding this inner conflict
inside Hamlet s mind immensely deepens the character. It also shows that, as a writer, Shakespeare
understands completely that an internal conflict can add as much satisfying drama to a piece as
external conflict between characters. Shakespeare including the very human idea of thinking and
worrying about what happens after death makes Hamlet seem as real as any individual you pass

The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes Essay
The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes
The Old Gringo is a fiction novel written by one of Latin America s most renowned and eloquent
authors, Carlos Fuentes. Filled with war, adventure, love and more, this novel takes you back to the
Mexican revolution fought in 1912. This contemporary fiction is based on many themes found and
experienced by the main characters in this novel. The relationship between Mexico and the United
States, the drive to find one s true self and the different ways two men need a woman are only a
few themes contained in this story. The question: Is he Ambrose Bierce or just an old gringo, is one
that I had to answer while reading this book. We all have different opinions, but it is a question that

The setting also influenced one of the major themes of the story, the historical relationship between
the United States and Mexico. As you can see, the setting of this novel was very important to
everything included in this story.
The main characters in this story are Harriet Winslow, the old gringo, and Tomas Arroyo. Of the
Three, Harriet learns the most as she starts her new life as governess across the frontier. She is a
dynamic character that changes in the story because of the things that happen around her. Other
characters include Manslavo, La Garduna, Frutos Garcia, La Luna and more. Carlos Fuentes did a
very good job of describing these characters and paints a picture, like all great authors, of the
characters portrayed in their novels.
Most of the story revolves, however, not around the old gringo but the young gringa, Harriet
Winslow. Harriet Winslow is a Yankee spinster, who decides one day in 1912 to break loose
from her humdrum life by taking a job as governess in Mexico. Once she arrives, she is
immediately caught in the middle of the Mexican revolution. Here, she meets the general, Tomas
Arroyo, and the American author, the old gringo. Harriet is described as a, quick, elegant, and a
beautiful woman of thirty. ; In a discussion with Miss Harriet and the old gringo, we learn that her
father disappeared in the Spanish American War somewhere in Cuba.

Essay on Dental Amalgam
Dental Amalgam Amalgam dental restorations which are also known as silver fillings are the
number one choice for restoring teeth. These silver fillings have been used for over a hundred
years to fill in cavities where there has been tooth decay. The question many have is what is dental
amalgam? Dental amalgamis a mixture of materials containing powdered alloy, metals and mercury.
There have been some concerns, however about the safety of this mercury containing filling
material. Amalgam is in the same safety class as gold and composite fillings (FDA) and does not
pose the safety concerns as once thought. Compared to other dental materials, such as composite

In order to have enough retention for the crown to stay in place, a build up is done on the tooth
before the crown is made. Also, when using an amalgam alloy for a filling, not as much natural
tooth structure has to be removed in order to place the filling. Whereas, when using a composite
filling, also known as tooth colored or a white filling, the retention of the filling requires
removal of more tooth structure in order to have the filling stay in place. Also, there is a
concern by some dentists about the longevity of composite fillings. Replacing fillings can get
quite expensive for the patients and is not a very cost effective choice. Most insurance
companies will not cover the costs of having tooth colored fillings placed, but they will pay for
amalgams, which is another good reason for using amalgam. When a filling lasts longer and
does not need to be replaced as often, it is much more cost effective for the patient. There are
other facts to take into consideration. Patients who have poor oral hygiene are great candidates
for amalgam fillings. (CDC). Amalgam tends to arrest decay and this is extremely helpful for a
patient who has poor oral hygiene and is cavity prone. Silver fillings are more affordable (ADA)
than composite, insurance companies will recognize them and they are safe. There has been quite a
controversy on whether dental amalgam is safe for the patients as well as the practitioners who

The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our
lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting
edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016).
One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of
antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1.
Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad
spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are
enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives
carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference
between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane
making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems
are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections
deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011).
Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of
being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%.
Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of

Essay On Bungalows
The Bungalows: A Brief History.
Introduction:
America has been in a love affair with the Bungalow style houses for more than two torrid decades.
This exotic word Anglo has been derived from Indian language, which came to be a new American
house style. The word bungalow has been around for more than hundreds of years, but did not
brought up anything sooner.
When the English travelled to India, they described their homes built by the native labour as
long, low buildings with wide verandas and deep hanging eaves. Wide roofs, first made of thatch
and then later made fireproof tile, enclosed in an isolated air lock technology against tropical heat.
Later, in the early 1870 s, builders of the new fashionable English referenced as The Bungalows .

My research proves that these youth sports organizations are so becoming a bit too intense.
Children should not be allowed to participate in the common youth sports we know today, until the
age of 13. Seeing that, I know myself and I know if that was me, that child that was being held out
of sports until I m a teenager, my heart would be torn into pieces. Regular youth sports
organizations consist of a few teams, probably parents with no real coaching experience as the
head coach, and children not having any fun. The real joy of youth sports comes from playing
alongside with your friends, not from bias and critical parents. That s why the call for the De
organization of youth sport are on a raise, athletic activities should resemble entertaining pick up
games. Also, children would be provided a safe playing environment, but would be allowed to
manage their own games and, as a result, begin to develop those personal skills organization,

Essay on Global Warming
Global Warming A Problem Blown Out of Proportion
It is ironic that fifty two years before hosting the 1997 United Nations Conference on Climate
Change, the city of Kyoto had barely missed being destroyed. It was one of four cities considered
as primary targets by President Harry Truman s secretary of war, Henry L. Stimson. The others were
Kokura, Hiroshima, and Niigata. Gale E. Christianson describes Kyoto in her book Greenhouse as a
magnificent city surpassed only by Tokyo in the number of its institutions of higher learning.

response. Furthermore, even if the earth is warming, it is not cause for alarm. Historic evidence
supports the idea that warmer climates are beneficial for human activities, food production, and
health. Cold periods have had the opposite affect. The argument against global warming is
divided into two schools of thought. The first is that scientific evidence proves that the earth is
not warming and the issue has been artificially manufactured. The second school of thought is
that warming is occurring. However, this warming is naturally occurring regardless of how we
treat the environment and this warming is beneficial to us for a variety of reasons which I will
explain. Scientific data collected over the over the last 140 years suggesting that there is global
warming has been replaced with satellites. Satellites, which measure temperatures all over the
world, show no real trend in any direction, in fact in recent decades, they show a global cooling.
Jerry Taylor, director of Cato Institute s Natural Resource Studies, observed that NASA satellites
and weather balloons show a slight cooling trend over the past 19 years. Taylor points out that
previous land based data only unevenly covers the three quarters of the earth s surface covered by
oceans and virtually ignores polar regions (Taylor 2). University of Alabama climatologist John

Bipolar Disorder ( Bipolar )
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder is a mental illness, which involves hypomanic episodes, which are changes in
someone s usual mood. Originally, Bipolar Disorder was called manic depression because it does
share similar symptoms with people diagnosed with depression. Bipolar Disorder is a severe
condition because it can cause mania, which then causes hallucinations and paranoid rage.
(Bipolar Disorder) Bipolar Disorder is classified into two categories, bipolar type 1 and bipolar
type 2. Bipolar type 2 is more serious because there is more major depression episodes. (Bipolar
Disorder) A study done by Revista Brasileria de Psiquitra, shows a higher prevalence of Bipolar
Disorder type 1 but overall both are pretty low in the general population. (Clemente) Because
Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder, the causes are unknown. (Bipolar Disorder) Even though they
don t know the root of the illness, doctors have found reasons that could have contribution. One of
these would be genetics and its most common with people who have relatives that have already
been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Also, after research doctors have discovered that patients
with bipolar disorder seem to have physical deviations with their brains. Another factor could be a
chemical imbalance with neurotransmitters. They also have discovered that stress, alcohol, and
drugs could also initiate the first manic episode. (Mayo Clinic)
The symptoms for bipolar disorder are separated into three categories:

Ross explains that he understands that forensic psychology is a relatively new specialty area.
However, he added that working juvenile cases, domestic violence cases, and screening cases
gave him a much broader and clear perspective of the field. In addition, he stated that working
closely with law enforcement specialists and psychologists allowed him to gain more perspective.
Both lawyers and forensic psychologists assist law enforcement professionals in investigating and
solving crime (Baker De Long, 2009). Ross states that many legal issues that tangles with
psychological nature spawns from questions of human behaviors and mental states and processes
of human beings. Ross explains that these past works enabled him to appreciate the area of
forensic psychology. He further states some of the tactics and skills that this discipline provides.
Forensic psychology furnishes his skills to determine the competency of a criminal defendant, the
extent to which an eyewitness is reliable, psychological defenses a criminal defendant can rely on,
and how much discretion should judges have in sentencing. Ross explains the new approach that
this field offers and how it may use scientific research and empirical knowledge to handle these
issues. (Counselor Ross was very general when answering). First Deputy Prosecutor is generally

Summary Of Cholera
Valerie MontagueReading Response 6
Aberth
He begins by describing the identification of cholera by Koch and some of the epidemiology.
Cholera is a gastrointestinal disease marked by excessive defecation and vomiting at alarming rates.
This along with a toxin in the small intestines causes dehydration and wearing down of the GI tract.
The first known pandemic of cholera began in 1817 and persisted in various parts of the world
throughout the 19th century. The disease presents an interesting way to look at social ideologies
and imperialism in 19th century Europe with some people accusing others of poison as the cause
of the disease. Also those who died of cholera were often given dishonorable burials and
designated for dissection. Aberth finishes the chapter by talking about John Snow, a British surgeon
who traced cholera back to sewage contaminated with feces decades before germ theory was
recognized.

Evans argues that cholera played a large role in political change and medicalization. To analyze
this, he looked at the psychological impact of cholera, the extent of political upheaval, and
scapegoats for the epidemic as a mode for policy change. For the first point, Evan stated that the
symptoms of cholera went against feelings of Victorian prudery as the disease is degrading. He
continues by pointing out the idea that the poor are most vulnerable to the epidemic. For his
second point, Evans links the outbreaks of cholera to political revolutions and upheavals.
Continuing on with this point, he says that mass movement of people by war and trade played a
large role in the spread of the disease. For his third point, he shows various scapegoats such as the
government with the cordons sanitares . He says that riots against government quarantine caused

are many different definitions of communication, but all communication definitions explain the
process of transmitting information, the framework of the information, and the effects of that
information. Understanding communication theory can be very rewarding and very beneficial to
people s personal and professional lives. It can help with public speaking, interviews, relationships,

Effects Of Dutch Colonization On Indonesia
The age of exploration brought the Netherlands to colonize Indonesia for many decades. When the
Dutch first arrived in Indonesia, they made slow advances to different parts of Indonesia. At the
time, Indonesia was well known as the spice islands that many countries wanted to colonize.
Because Dutch colonization in Indonesia lasted a long time, it impacted Indonesia greatly and left
many short and long term effects. Although the Dutch impacted Indonesia greatly in many different

The Dutch created new systems, rules, and held power and control over the people of Indonesia.
They formed single organizations and traded across large areas before eventually becoming the
main political figure in the archipelago and replaced existing Indonesian politics. Rules and systems
that had been previously used by Indonesia were diminished and quickly taken over and changed by
the Dutch. The cultivation (culture) system was a system that impacted the Dutch and Indonesia
politically and economically for a long period of time. The Dutch would have each village submit a
set amount of resources as rent that benefitted them but was torture for Indonesians (encyclopedia

politics weren t effective and was often inhumane for the Indonesians. Their culture system was
eventually rioted against and diminished. The rejection of the cultivation system was both for
humane and for economic motives. ; the culture system was changed in 1870 and created a new
period, led by the Dutch crown instead of the VOC (Indonesia Investments). Political choices made

to show how inefficient the VOC could be for long term results, but efficient for short term results.

Stereotypes And Perception Of A Worldview
Introduction In our first class we discussed that a worldview acts as a filter through which we
understand and perceive phenomena (Koltko Rivera, 8). This discussion was very important, as
understanding the meaning of the term worldviews laid the foundation on which the following
classes could be built upon. We don t see things as they are, we see them as we are (Koltko
Rivera, 3) was the statement that stood out most for me, it explained how we are each shaped
by our own personal experiences and therefore we each have our own unique way of viewing the
world. Stereotypes play a huge part in our worldview, they aren t necessarily a bad thing but they
aren t exactly good either. Stereotypes are a widely believed, oversimplified idea or belief of a
particular type of person, people or thing (Online Oxford dictionary). As people living in South
Africa, we come into contact with people from other cultures on a daily basis, so it is of vital
importance that we are able to identify stereotypes as stereotypes, and challenge and change them
if the need be. I think worldviews are an amazing thing, as much as it can be a conflict causing
issue, it also allows us to gain knowledge and helps us understand and empathize with other
people. Engaging with different people with different worldviews allow us to change the filters
through which we view phenomena and see them in a new, different light. Gender Worldviews
Before this class, I had considered feminism to be a bad thing.

Tom s Eating Milk Character Analysis
Evolutionary: Tom s ancestors are very large felines. Sometime in history, they evolved to
become smaller. Being a smaller animal meant that they had to comsume less food to survive.
Tom is portrayed as a very slim and lean character. He is able to move and run very quickly,
especially when chasing Jerry.
Behavioral: Tom once had a run in with a large dognamed Spike. Spike is easily able to beat up
Tom and from then on, Tom is wary to bother Spike again in fear of another punishment from him.
Sociocultural: While it is true that kittens can drink milk, the ability to tolerate milk reduces in
adult cats. Giving milk to adult cats can cause bloating and make them sick. Later in the series,
when it is clear that Tom has grown to an adult cat, he still continues to drink milk as a result from

Due to prevalence in postmenopausal women and controversy mentioned above, this critical review

fracture via RCTs studies.
Search strategy
Pubmed and Web of Science were used in searching relevant articles with the terms calcium and/or

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders:
Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many
differences as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party
men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian
communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were
followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens
and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech;
violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir
Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once
again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004
and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would

Generalized Anxiety Disorder ( Gad )
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most diagnosed mental disorders today, and
can often be closely linked to concurrent symptoms or disorders including physiological,
behavioral, other anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. (Merino, Senra Ferreiro,
2016) (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013, p. 688). GAD most notably produces symptoms of excessive
worry and anxietyrelated to non specific risks, which often leads to functional decline both
socially and professionally (Roberge et al., 2015). GAD reveals instances of links to biological
origins such as heredity and biochemistry, as well as, ties to an individual s cognitive development
and socioeconomic environment (Cacioppo Fregberg, 2013).
GAD s potentially interwoven origin marks significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment.
Patients often leave the opportunity for diagnosis of GAD to the primary caregiver (Roberge et
al., 2015). Primary care professionals must be able to attribute physiological symptoms to
psychological conditions in many of these cases to prevent missed or misdiagnosis, as well as
correctly evaluate potential psychological disorders akin to GAD. The Roberge et al. (2015)
research article indicates the need for increased efforts in preparing primary care professionals to
properly screen and diagnose patients with GAD.
Preferred treatment for GAD includes medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, but more
extensive therapy may be called upon in some instances of recurrence or

Jazz Impact On American Culture Essay
Jazz has had a significant effect on American culture. It has played a significant role in defining
America s cultural capacity s and has been the catalyst of issues that have dealt with race, politics
and sex over the past hundred years. It has also served as a podium of national identity and
expression to the country to such an extent that it has become widely known as America s Classical
Music. In this essay, one will present the impact that jazzas had on American culture, taking into
consideration the issues and ideologies that contributed to its cultural significance.
The origins of jazz are widely attributed to African Americans, it though however became
associated and integrated with the white middle class and took on a new idiom that encapsulated
and infiltrated American culture. Originating in New Orleans, jazz rose to prominence during the

If one were to go back in history and take look at Thomas Jefferson, one can understand how
significant a figure he is to America s history. He wrote the Declaration of Independence that
America takes precedent and basis on. He was a great vindicator of the American idiom in which
all men should be equal. This was a façade to the African American populous of the United States
as they had no such freedom and so the struggle against slavery has been laid out in the social

How Does Fielding Present The Character Of The Novel A...
In the novel A Passage to India by E M Forster there many different character that each reflect
ideas, some of the ideas would be relevant to a Victorian audience. There are a plenty of ideas that
reflects the attitudes and values common in the early 20th Century. Forster uses each of the
characters to represent different ideas and values towards issues like racism, which is present
throughout the novel.
Cyril Fielding is a very interesting and unique character in the novel A Passage to India , because
some of his ideas wouldn t be relevant to a Victorian audience and he has a more modern
attitude. Cyril Fielding is an interesting character because he is the most associated to the Forster
out of all the characters; the character portrays Forster s attitudes and values at the time he wrote
the book (1924). Amongst all the Englishmen who are living in Chandrapore Fielding isn t very
successful in comparison in developing relationships with the native Indians. Fielding isn t a very
racist character and doesn t share the same views as characters like Rony. Fielding is an educator
however he is less comfortable in the usual teacher student environment; he prefers a more one on
one teaching style. His preference in teaching style shows that Fielding (and Forster) see the world
as a bunch of unique individuals who connect with each other through respect and courtesy for each
other. Fielding s attitude towards teaching the Indians show s that he values as intellects as well

right claims to be a right that is discernible by human reason and is universally acknowledged .

Buying or selling a house or an apartment is one of the biggest decisions of a person s life. And
when selling or establishing a price for real estate, people seek out real estate agents to do the dirty

knowledgeable. In many ways, the agent acts as a counselor to individuals and families about to

and larger sales, both of which increase earnings. This occurs as agents gain expertise and contacts,
and become more efficient in closing a greater number of transactions. Experienced agents can also
advance in many large firms to managerial positions. And people who have received their broker s
licenses can open their own offices.
Others with experience and training in estimating property value may become real estate
appraisers, and people familiar with operating and maintaining rental properties may become
property managers. Also, a gents, brokers, and appraisers who gain general experience in real
estate and a thorough knowledge of business conditions and property values in their localities, may
enter mortgage financing or real estate investment counseling. Employment of real estate agents is

replacement needs. Agents who usually worked full time had median annual earnings of $31,500.

The theory tries to prescribe and describe how a group should communicate and be lead to be the
most effective. According to the theory as put forth by Hirokawa and Gouran, groups are able to
effectively make decisions and solve problems when group members fulfill five prerequisites. The
first of these prerequisites is that the group members must understand the problem that needs to be
solved. Second, they must determine the qualities of an acceptable solution to the problem. Third,
group members must brainstorm any and all relevant and realistic solutions to the given problem.
Next, each of the solutions should be compared to the qualities the group members previously set
forth and agreed upon. Finally, the group members should select the solution that most closely
reflects the desired characteristics. In addition to fulfilling these criteria, Group members employ
appropriate interventions for overcoming cognitive, affiliative, and egocentric constraints that are
interfering with the satisfaction of fundamental task requirements (Gouran Hirokawa, 2003, p. 29)

A Scandal in Bohemia and The Speckled Band are two short detective stories written by Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle. They are set in England in the mid 19th century. Both of the stories are narrated by
Dr Watson, who is one of the main characters. The other main character is Sherlock Holmesand he
is an amateur detective. Both stories have a main female character and I am going to compare

Although she is retired from the operatic stage , she was the Prima donna Imperial Opera of
Warsaw .
Irene Alder is a very wealthy woman who has obviously earned a lot from being an opera singer.
She has a big house that has a large sitting room on the right side, well furnished with long
windows almost to the floor . Irene is kind and tender hearted towards Sherlock Holmes and takes
him into this house when he is supposedly injured. Dr Watson describes the grace and kindliness
with which she waited upon the injured man .
Irene Adler is not just very talented, she is also clever. Twice she has outsmarted the King of
Bohemia twice she has been waylaid. There was no result . She also manages to get the better of
Sherlock Holmes and this is probably the only time that a lady has managed to do that. As well
as being clever, she is also cunning. The King himself tells Sherlock Holmes that there are no
lengths to which she would no go none . We know that she is even prepared to blackmail, but
only after falling in love with Godfrey Norton, she keeps the photograph, but only to safeguard
herself. She is a very romantic person. She says that she loves and is loved . This shows that it is
more important to her than money or social standing.
Helen Stoner is quite different from Irene Adler. She is a very timid woman but this may be
because she is very

The Competitive Market Player Of The Aviation Industry
Today in the ever changing and volatile industry that is aviation every action taken has a significant
impact on not only your business but also the competition and stakeholders. With any competitive
market player in the aviation industry every decision made is a critical one, and behind any
decision will be a strategy. These decisions and strategies implemented will put the airline, airport
or manufacturer into one of 4 key strategic positions. The business will either be; the leader,
usually the biggest with the most funds. The challenger who s trying to become the next leader.
The follower, who as the name implies follows the leader and challenger in focusing on a market
share. And Finally the Niche who has a very specific, yet profitable market often avoided by the
big players. All of these strategic positions work in their own right and have advantages and
disadvantages to them, hence why an airlines strategy may change many times over the lifetime of
the carrier.
The First and arguably the position every carrier wants to be in is that of the leader. The Leader is
the big dog. With the most funds, resources and in most instances the most reputable brand. This
gives the leader the most flexibility in crafting strategy (Brian, 2011). And with flexibility comes
power, they can make changes with a much smaller risk than if they were in any of the other three
market positions. The leader s main competitive advantage however is the ability to determine the

Innocence
Hurricane
Eye In The Sky
Mississippi Burning ⇽Introduction⇾
The main connection I am going to look into in further detail is Innocence.
The meaning of Innocence from my opinion is To not be found guilty of a cause or problem eg:
Invulnerable.
I will be using four pieces of texts to help me back this up.
The first text is Hurricane directed by Norman Jewison, Hurricane is about a man named Rubin
Carter who s dream is winning the middle weight boxing title but all came to a crash when some
unsuspected murders happend.
The second text is Eye In The Sky directed by Gavin Hood, Eye in The Sky is about the British
army preparing to take out a group of Suicidal Bombers in Nairobi Kenya.
The final text is Mississippi Burning directed by Alan Parker, Mississippi Burning is about a
mystery killing of 3 civil right workers supporting the African American Race.
Body Paragraph 1~
Culpability
The first connection I will be explaining is Culpability.
From my opinion Culpability means to be blamed for something they didn t do despite them
pleading innocent from a Law s point of view.
The movie that relates strongly to this is Hurricane, Rubin Hurricane Carter was a Boxing
champion but all went downhill when he was accused of murdering three people at a bar in New
Jersey.
An example of how culpability was used was when in the

Charmin s Marketing Strategy
I selected Charmin for my brand and they are part of the Proctor and Gamble organization of
products. Charmin is a toilet tissue product and has been around from the late 1920 s till today.
Their initial channels consisted of traditional advertising like papers or store windows, word of
month between consumers and packaging with a feminine touch of a lady on the front. You have
to remember the time frame and how our culture was during this time period in how we processed
products of this nature. Reasoning the ladies handled purchase of these type perceived feminine
products. Someone one day said the packaging was charming so came the name Charmin. Their
message to consumers is its so soft and they have promoted this message from the beginning...

In an attempt to reach consumers and their wants with respect to toilet tissue they have around 6
different type of Charmin. They have the original Charmin, soft, ultra soft, strong, ultra strong, and
sensitive. Today they have different channels due to technology and how consumers receive
information. They Advertise on television, internet with website and pop up advertisements, they
give out coupons through mailers and the internet. They even have a app to help consumers find
clean bathrooms in the area when they are out and about in the community. Additionally, they
provide helpful tips and hints for consumers about a variety of issues surrounding the applicable
topic of toilet tissue like potty training and things that revolve around the bathroom experience.
Charmin has been innovative and creative in their communication mix over time and evolved as
needed to meet applicable approaches for communication with consumers and how our culture
also changed during those different time periods. They stayed true to their core message of its so
soft or in general its soft. They managed to get people to look at the bathroom experience in a
different light as its just a natural function and is not a big deal. They also seemed to make the
most out of every time period as technology, advertising strategies, and economical conditions

Rousseau s State Of Nature
Rousseau defines the state of nature as The hypothetical, prehistoric place and time where human
beings live uncorrupted by society (Editors). According to Rousseau, in the state of nature people
have complete physical freedom and are at liberty to do whatever they want (Editors). The state of
nature for Rousseau is where human beings have not discovered rationality or morality (Editors).
The state of nature keeps us from turning psychopathic as opposed to society who Rousseau says is
to blame for our behavior and short comings.
Rousseau interpretation of the state of nature was a man will act like a savage if they need food,
sexual satisfaction, and sleep (Giampietri). In the process of acting like a savage they fear hunger
and pain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all agree the only thing that is important to a man other
than self preservation is his immediate needs, so luxuries are not seen as vital in his opinion.
Rousseau compares a savage looks to that of a wild animal, the difference being a man s free will
and the ability of self improvement (Giampietri). Still self improvement can either bring progress or
misfortune to mankind. In Rousseau s opinion the goodness in the state of nature is polluted thanks
to civilization and progress leaving us no chance to go back to that state.
However, Rousseau s aspect on mortality in the state of nature is there is no room for law, right
and mortality (Giampietri). In other words, we do not harm others because we have a natural
distaste to seeing people in pain or suffering. Such as, Hobbes and Locke assumption that we will
fall in a state of war which Rousseau feels they over estimates. Rousseau imagines in state of war
a man will feel horrible for the harm caused to other fellows. To Rousseau in a state of nature man
are equal. Rousseau attitude towards private property is different than Locke s view. Rousseau feels
the only outcome that will occur of owning private property is inequality, mutual dependence, and
jealousy.
When the social contract first came out many people did not agree with it. In fact, the Paris
authorities immediately banned it after its arrival (Delaney). The social contract job is to tell how a

It was proposed that some more perturbation rate varying schemes such as adaptive, chaotic, non linear etc. will be explored and their performance will be examined in near future. To enhance the local search ability of spider monkeys in the original SMO, K. Gupta, et al., [30] propounded a Quadratic Approximation operator in her research Improving the local search ability of spider monkey optimization algorithm using Quadratic Approximation for unconstrained optimization in 2016. The QA operator works as follows First of all, three distinct solutions A(a1, a2, ... , aD), B(b1, b2, ... , bD) and C(c1, c2, ... , cD)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Authors investigated that sometimes low fit members may contain some significant information and to avoid such loss, tournament selection based probability scheme was used in lieu of fitness proportionate probability scheme so that even the individuals with low fitness may get a chance to update their location. In 2017, A. Sharma, et al. [32] in Power law based local search in spider monkey optimization for lower order system modeling suggested new search ability in Spider Monkey Optimization named Power law based local search (PLLS). In this, the step size is iteratively decreased to exploit and identify the search region in the periphery of the best candidate solution. Paper additionally recommended that by the incorporation of power law based local search strategy, exploitation capability can be enhanced. To check the competitiveness of the proposed strategy, different tests like Mann Whitney U rank sum test, Boxplots, Acceleration Rate etc. were executed. To check the robustness of the strategy, it was applied to solve the lower order system modeling problems. The proposed PLSMO was applied on four higher order complex systems to get the respective lower order systems. The algorithm might be considered as a focused technique in investigating the parameters during system modeling problems. As per No Free Lunch theorem, no specific algorithm ... • 6. Local Area Network ( Lan ) Local Area Network (LAN) Local Area Network connects the computer hardware (i.e. Server, Printer, or Personal Computers) together withing localized area such as office building or home. The LAN is most often connected by wire (Martin, 2016). It is the smallest network generally (Frenzel, 2007). Pros One of the advantages of LAN is the speed (1000mbps), the small number of devices on LAN bring fewer problems like transmission errors. If LAN requires a couple of extra devices it is not very expensive(Jasujaved and Sehgal, 2016). The LAN can offer resources like printers or storage to all users. Every node can have access to every file. (Revision World, 2007) Cons The issues may arise when a number of people are sending prints ques to appear. Network security might be and issue, in the instance where computer virus gets inside of the network all computers will probably to get infected. Hardware cost can be costly when setting up a new network from scratch. Failure of central server affects all nodes in the network. (Revision World, 2007) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Metropolitan Area Network is a smaller collection of LAN networks generally covering an area of cities or towns. MANs usually use fiber optic rings spanning the cities. The example of MAN can be cable TV (Frenzel, 2007). The government, military or large universities are example users of the MAN. Pros Extends the capability of LANs by connecting them into a bigger network (i.e. localized database for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Integration of Women into the Armed Forces Essay Today s military includes women who train at boot camps, serve on warships and fly combat planes. Women currently represent fifteen percent of military personnel, and their presence is increasing among new recruits, up twenty five percent in the A ir Force. Among officers and enlisted personnel, fifty five percent, or 107, 733 women report some form of sexual harassment. Recent accusations of sexual misconduct against drillsergeants at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, and a separate case against Ser geant Major Gene McKinney of the US Army, have some people questioning whether integrationof women in the militaryhas been successful. In addition to sexual harassment, gender integration issues include ingrained cultural patterns,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Army examination of the drill sergeant selection sys tem found it did not consider a candidate s maturity or complete a thorough background check. There was no close investigation of instances where drill sergeants had beaten their wives, which was a particular problem with some of the accused at the Aberd een Proving Ground. The military s position is that the problems of sexual harassment int eh military can be attributed to a lack of leadership, detailed in two army investigations (Barry and Thomas 49; Schitt A1, A19). Opponents of the military s lack fo leadership reasoning believe the problems lie in how the military environment facilitates sexual harassment, in addition to making it difficult for women to resist or report instances of sexual advanes. They fee l the creed of drill sergeants, the power of the military structure, and the fat that military women can not just walk away from their jobs contributes to drill sergeants having powers over women that result in sexual harassment. These issues are explain ed by civilian psychiatrist Major Elsbeth Ritchie in testimony at the court martial of a drill sergeant from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ritchie explains that fear of sexual harassment in the military is elevated due to a drill sergeant creed of I am Mother, I am Father, and God to recruits (qtd. Sciolino, pg. A14). Furthermore, the military structure is so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Proposal Essay Depression Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience, like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one s shoulders. It can affect one s experience of the world: if it s sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if it s gray, the gray gets heavier. Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil? How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it? First, it s important to know the difference between the winter blues, an occasional down day, a week when you re just feeling off, and longer lasting, biologically based depression. Depression is a whole body illness, involving your thoughts, mood and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do recommend anything by Bill Withers, especially the soulful Lean on Me ( Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but if we are wise, we know that there s always tomorrow... ). One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray s Drift Away ( And when I m feeling blue, a guitar s comin through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you ve given me... ). Sometimes music can be used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige s No More Cryin from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album are Take Me As I Am and Good Woman Down. Finally, because depression can also stem from fear, I recommend listening to Mindkiller, by Adam Freeland off of his Now and Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, Fear is the mind killer. Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you feel safe in handling the vehicle. You can take your music with you, head east, then turn back toward the Front Range to give yourself full view of the area s jagged, snow covered peaks. Or Asmus, page 3 drive right up into the mountains, allowing the music to serve as a soundtrack for each turn in the road. When you break over the top of a hill and have a view of the valley below, use this as a metaphor for your depression that you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Controversy Of Organ Donation In China Lawmakers should pass a motion urging China to immediately put a stop on the alleged forced organ harvesting of Christian prisoners, according to two Canadian lawyers who brought the claims to Australia s Parliament House. On Monday, human rights lawyer David Matas and former prosecutor David Kilgour came to Australia s House of Parliament claiming to have evidence of China performing between 60,000 and 100,000 organ transplants every year. The Canadian lawyers say the only plausible explanation for the source of the harvested organs is the killing of Christians, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan Buddhist, and Falun gong practitioners, The Associated Press (AP) relays. However, Matas and Kilgour did not present proof of the alleged organ sourcing. This is not the first time that such claims have been made, but the opacity of China s legal system does not allow much room for independent verification of the said issue. ... • 11. How To Increase Crime In America There are many time periods that I am fond of but I think my favorite time period is the 1950s. I think I would be happy during that time period because everything was simpler and more safe. Children could play outside without their parent worrying because most people just left them alone and kidnapping was unheard of. Most people also lived in the suburbs and I think I would be able to fit into that life nicely. I already live next to my grandparents and one of my brothers so living next to more nice people would not have been a problem for me. Elvis was also live alive and rock and roll was too. The music was more pure and pleasant back then, not like the music we have now. Everything was also much cheaper. Gas was 20 cents a gallon versus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The baby boom occurred at this time because many Americans believed that since the war was over all the bad times were also over. There was an increase in the national gross product mostly from the construction of roads and other national improvements. Wages were high and most people had jobs so there was more money that people had access to. People were able to spend more money for things they like and there were many advancements that gave them things to want. There was also a civil rights movement that was becoming popular and was flourishing. Separate but equal facilities were ruled against the law so the integration of African Americans into white facilities began. Nonviolent resistance was common unlike today when protests are more frequent than peaceful protests. There was not as much anger between the races as there is now but instead there was a sense of dissatisfaction. Nonviolent protests were still the most popular form of expression even with the level of satisfaction that was present. The violent protests that occur now are probably due to the higher crime rate. Protests now also involve theft as well as the violence toward cops and even regular citizens. Six firms dominated the banana industry in the early 1990 s, three from Europe and three from the United States. In 1994, the three United States producers, Chiquita, Dole, and Del Monte, accounted for approximately 72.4% of world banana sales. Chiquita accounted for 48% of worldwide banana sales and 66.4% of banana sales of the three U.S. producers. Hamlet And Religion Essay The Religion of Shakespeare When studying the plays of Shakespeare, primarily Hamlet, it is easy to see Shakespeare had a deep respect and understanding of Christianity. During the 1600 s, the time in which Hamlet was created, Christianity was split into two main religious groups. One of these groups was Catholicism, which was discriminated against, and the other Protestantism. Protestants were the group of Christians created when the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. Those individuals protested the rule of the Catholic Church, hence being called Protestants. Hamlet includes thoughts on mortality, the afterlife, suicide, and the consequences of an individual s actions. Hamlet mulls over the idea of suicide in his To be or not to be soliloquy. As he cannot be certain what will happen to his spirit after death, he does not follow through with this thought. In the Christian religion it is understood only God can give and take life. And said, Naked came I out of my mother s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord taketh away: blessed be the name of the Lord. (KJV Job 1:21). Suicide is ungodly to Christian s because it rejects God s gift of life. This concern with the destination of one s spirit shows Hamlet to be aware and concerned for his spirit (soul). Shakespeare adding this inner conflict inside Hamlet s mind immensely deepens the character. It also shows that, as a writer, Shakespeare understands completely that an internal conflict can add as much satisfying drama to a piece as external conflict between characters. Filled with war, adventure, love and more, this novel takes you back to the Mexican revolution fought in 1912. This contemporary fiction is based on many themes found and experienced by the main characters in this novel. The relationship between Mexico and the United States, the drive to find one s true self and the different ways two men need a woman are only a few themes contained in this story. As you can see, the setting of this novel was very important to everything included in this story. The main characters in this story are Harriet Winslow, the old gringo, and Tomas Arroyo. Of the Three, Harriet learns the most as she starts her new life as governess across the frontier. She is a dynamic character that changes in the story because of the things that happen around her. Other characters include Manslavo, La Garduna, Frutos Garcia, La Luna and more. Carlos Fuentes did a very good job of describing these characters and paints a picture, like all great authors, of the characters portrayed in their novels. Most of the story revolves, however, not around the old gringo but the young gringa, Harriet Winslow. Harriet Winslow is a Yankee spinster, who decides one day in 1912 to break loose from her humdrum life by taking a job as governess in Mexico. Once she arrives, she is immediately caught in the middle of the Mexican revolution. Here, she meets the general, Tomas Arroyo, and the American author, the old gringo. Harriet is described as a, quick, elegant, and a beautiful woman of thirty. ; In a discussion with Miss Harriet and the old gringo, we learn that her father disappeared in the Spanish American War somewhere in Cuba. ... Whereas, when using a composite filling, also known as tooth colored or a white filling, the retention of the filling requires removal of more tooth structure in order to have the filling stay in place. Also, there is a concern by some dentists about the longevity of composite fillings. Replacing fillings can get quite expensive for the patients and is not a very cost effective choice. Most insurance companies will not cover the costs of having tooth colored fillings placed, but they will pay for amalgams, which is another good reason for using amalgam. When a filling lasts longer and does not need to be replaced as often, it is much more cost effective for the patient. There are other facts to take into consideration. Patients who have poor oral hygiene are great candidates for amalgam fillings. (CDC). Amalgam tends to arrest decay and this is extremely helpful for a patient who has poor oral hygiene and is cavity prone. • 17. The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases Introduction Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1. Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011). Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This discussion was very important, as understanding the meaning of the term worldviews laid the foundation on which the following classes could be built upon. We don t see things as they are, we see them as we are (Koltko Rivera, 3) was the statement that stood out most for me, it explained how we are each shaped by our own personal experiences and therefore we each have our own unique way of viewing the world. Stereotypes play a huge part in our worldview, they aren t necessarily a bad thing but they aren t exactly good either. Stereotypes are a widely believed, oversimplified idea or belief of a particular type of person, people or thing (Online Oxford dictionary). As people living in South Africa, we come into contact with people from other cultures on a daily basis, so it is of vital importance that we are able to identify stereotypes as stereotypes, and challenge and change them if the need be. I think worldviews are an amazing thing, as much as it can be a conflict causing issue, it also allows us to gain knowledge and helps us understand and empathize with other people. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union.
