United Way of
Metropolitan Chicago
Receives Funding to
Fight Violence
DR. LAMONT TYLER
Introduction
As the medical director of OSF Medical Group, Dr. Lamont Tyler serves
patients throughout the Bloomington, Illinois, community. Community
focused, Dr. Lamont Tyler supports local organizations that make an
impact, from Goodwill Industries to United Way. The latter nonprofit
was recently in the news because the United Way of Metropolitan
Chicago received $425,000 in grants from the Jewish Federation to aid
community organizations that aim to prevent violence.
United Way of Metropolitan Chicago will administer the funds, which
will be distributed to the Sinai Health System, the Institute for
Nonviolence Chicago, and the United Way Neighborhood Network
Initiative. A particular focus is on laying the groundwork for a
multifaceted violence prevention strategy that operates across faiths
and cultural backgrounds.
United Way
The Sinai Health System is receiving $175,000 for a number of
initiatives, including a behavioral health system that reaches out to
children and youth in Southwest Chicago and the Chicago Gun Violence
Research Collaborative, which works to stem weapon-related fatalities.
The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago will receive support for its
programs that follow the nonviolence principles and practices of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. In addition, the United Way Neighborhood
Network Initiative will obtain $100,000 to train organizations and
leaders in trauma care.
