Crowdsourcing your documentation: Managing a crowdsourced documentation projectSusan Griffin
Crowdsourcing is defined as “the act of taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call” (source: "The Rise of Crowdsourcing," June 2006, Wired magazine). If you look online, you’ll find many examples of this concept at work in forums and websites designed expressly for the purpose of shared content creation: Wikipedia, IMDB (internet movie database), and reddit, just to name a few.
What I am talking about here, crowdsourcing a documentation project, is a little bit different. It is document creation that is outsourced to a group of internal users, and project managed by someone with a writing/information architecture background. I would describe this as more of a “controlled crowdsourcing” scenario, with a smaller group of contributors, and contained within a single organization. If you haven’t experienced this yet, chances are that you will, and soon. With more companies needing the writing staff they have to “work smarter and more creatively,” I would argue that this is something we all need to adapt to as professional content creators.

Light Weight Methods to Drive Your Designs ForwardNicole Capuana
Product teams these days need to be moving quickly and iteratively in delivering great products. At times though, teams can get stuck on how to move the designs forward. Sometimes it’s because of unexpected complexity and other times there are multiple paths to explore.
In this workshop, participants will experience a variety of methods that help teams gain a shared understanding through collaboration with clients, product owners, and key stakeholders. Each of the methods covered are light-weight and can be adopted by teams at any stage in the product design and development. Learn how to:
+ get started with user research,
+ define personas,
+ generate and turn ideas into solid solutions,
+ create low-fidelity mockups that can be tested with users immediately,
+ conduct a usability test,
+ synthesize your findings,
+ and gain focus for the product through games and structured discussion.
Every method covered will focus on designing a mobile app so that participants get the full experience of how each method fits into designing a product.
Don't worry if you don't have any UX background, this workshop will guide you through exercises. And if you're a UX rockstar, come flex your usability prowess with other professionals. Come learn and share tips & tricks! Everyone on a product team can benefit from this hands-on practice.
Professional learning at the school will consist of PL Take 20s, content team PLC meetings, instructional coaching, and completing activities on the HORNS board. Instructional coaching is available to help teachers meet their goals and is confidential. The HORNS board offers various activities teachers can choose from to earn points towards rewards. All information and materials will be available in the staff handbook online.

36. I was born in New Hampshire, and grew up in Vermont. Aside from a brief stint in DC, I’ve never really
lived outside of the northeast for a prolonged period of time.
My father was an engineer, and my mother was a teacher. I have two brothers, one younger, one older.
I was an athletic nerd growing up. I spent a lot of time with my face buried in a book at sports events
while waiting for my turn to compete. In particular, I read a lot of fantasy.
Y - Something about your younger self
37. Books were a big deal in my family, and a lot of our small family rituals revolved around them.
As an example, on Christmas eve we always gave each other books to read while waiting for
morning, and read a series of Christmas short stories (from dutch and german roots, I couldn’t tell
you why).
It’s probably in part why I ended up being such a voracious reader, and doing some early reads and
feedback cycles with authors.
O - One thing about your culture
38. I’ve had a habit of getting involved in comparatively niche and emerging sports. As an example, in college I got fairly involved with
quidditch both as a player, and as a volunteer, and spent several years serving on the committee which writes the rulebook, as well
as being selected as an alternate for team USA twice.
My most recent pickups have been disc golf, ultimate, and rock climbing. I’m always keeping busy, because I know if I’m not staying
active I lose focus, and energy.

Grew up with a single mother and two older brothers. Created a super close
dynamic between the three of us, and had a major influence on my early view
of the world.
My mother remarried and I moved from a suburban world (Greece NY) to a
family farm (Leroy NY). Gained a step brother and step sister (Full House!)

moving up to Rochester with my grandmother. Energy generation stayed in the
blood!

debated policy surrounding the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
