It also states that corporate giving is guided by the values of a company’s board and does not necessarily reflect the needs of the local area.
The authors argue that the sector needs to focus on entrepreneurial philanthropy. Charitable start-ups answer specific needs within a community and, as such, have the capacity to grow and develop into strong resources which will help to moderate the individualism that characterises much of today’s charitable giving.

Aaron Dorfman argues that foundations need to rethink their strategies and tactics to better help underserved communities. He notes that only one-third of philanthropic dollars are intended to benefit marginalized groups. As president of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, he encourages foundations to fund advocacy, civic engagement, and political causes in order to leverage limited funds and create real change. Dorfman also stresses philanthropy's role in supporting resistance to the current administration's attacks on vulnerable populations.

Compassionate companies contribute to their communities through charitable donations and cause marketing. A survey found that Americans expect companies to support causes, even during economic downturns. Cause-related marketing can boost sales and benefit charities while also improving employee morale and public opinion of the company. When companies inform the public about their charitable support, such as Home Depot's support of Olympics and Dannon Yogurt's support of breast cancer awareness, it strengthens their brand. Charitable contributions are important for communities, and donors should carefully research charities to make sure donations are used effectively.

Introduction
There are so many parents that can’t afford for their children to go to school these, because it is very expensive. It is also highly expensive for adults as well. There are so many families out there that struggle to put food on their tables, clothes on their back, because time is truly hard. I think every child and adult deserves a chance to excel, and succeed in life. There is one particular organization that helps give everyone in need that chance, and to learn how to be their own person. This organization is called The United Way of Greenville County. The United Way of Greenville is a spectacular organization for a child to be in, to learn everything they need to know in school. It also helps adults get their GED, or high school diploma. The United Way of Greenville’s vision is for everyone in Greenville County to be successful in life. United Way of Greenville’s mission is to bring everyone together as a whole, and to help them learn. They want all of their graduates to be prepared and to find great jobs in the future . The United Way of Greenville constantly challenge their selves to quickly stay on their toes, to reach for greatness, to think outside of the box, and to work together to be able to build success for everyone in Greenville County.
United Way of Greenville’s Net Contributed Income
In 2017, The United Way of Greenville had raised an awesome amount of $16,662,591. In 2016, they have raised about $125,000 less then what they did last year. There were also no more than 1,500 volunteers (Mitchell, 2018). Although the United Way of Greenville is not quite the largest charity in town, they still manage to keep raising money, and maintain an incredibly well net income. United Way raises all of their money so they could help any, and everyone they possibly can to become successful in life. United way is strengthened by all of their supporters, staff, and all of the people they help support. I think The United Way of Greenville constantly keep increasing their number of donors, because if they keep increasing their income will definitely increase as well. United Way has donors that give them a great deal of money, because they believe in them and know they will continue to strive for their community. Any organization should build a good friendly relationship with all of their supporters, as well as their potential supporters. I think if you get in good with them, they would spread the work on how nice, and genuine your organization truly is.

Entrepreneurship involves overcoming obstacles through acknowledging difficulties, focusing on controllable factors, and taking action. Successful entrepreneurs understand that crises do not define them - their responses do. To overcome obstacles, one must acknowledge thoughts and emotions, shift focus to gratitude and solutions, ask for help in developing an action plan, and then take consistent massive action towards their goals. Obstacles are an inevitable part of the entrepreneurial journey and can make one stronger if used as learning experiences.

Customer Journey Map
Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
How to find charities to support the things you care about

How to find charities to support the things you care about

Americans make most of their charitable donations between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. (Photo: TypoArt BS/Shutterstock)
Much of the nation’s charitable giving occurs between #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and Dec. 31. In 2016,
donations on Nov. 29 soared 44 percent from the previous year, raising $168 million. Giving Tuesday is a day to volunteer for or
donate to your favorite cause, whether large or national or small and local. But it’s just the beginning of the season.
If you’re in the mood to give, but you worry about how your money will be used (most of us do), keep in mind it’s important not to
focus completely on administrative costs as a benchmark for assessing a charity’s success. A certain amount of overhead is
necessary for a nonpro t to function and grow its goals. In 2013, several charity watchdog sites wrote an open letter to address the
misconceptions around the “overhead myth.”
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use robust metrics to vet an organization. You should. But how to begin?
How to decide on a charity
2. Several websites allow you to research charities to make sure your nancial contribution is used how you intended. (Photo: Aysezgicmeli/Shutterstock)
First, consider a cause that speaks to you and whether you want to give nationally or locally. Most of us have a few arenas we care
deeply about. Talk to friends or family for recommendations.
Next, gather information about a particular nonpro t. A good place to start is with the charity sites that review or rate charities.
Charity Navigator rates organizations on nancial health, accountability and transparency. A good benchmark, according to Charity
Navigator, is 75 percent of income going toward programs or the organization’s mission. GuideStar, which lists 1.8 million charities,
doesn’t rate organizations but does provide information on their executive salaries, spending and income by providing access to
Form 990s, the basic Internal Revenue Service ling document. For a fee, you can dig even deeper. BBB Wise Giving Alliance,
a liated with the Council for Better Business Bureaus, also provides reviews of national charities using accountability standards
(but doesn’t rate them). GiveWell, a smaller charity information site, conducts in-depth research on nonpro ts and o ers a few top
recommendations. Also try GreatNonpro ts.org, where you can nd nonpro ts local to your city. Talking to an organization directly
about their goals and mission will also give you good information.
Third, determine an annual budget for yourself and commit to recurring contributions for a cause or two. My husband contributes
a small monthly sum to a regional NPR station with a jazz focus because playing jazz is a big part of his life and he supports
objective journalism.
If you don’t have the nancial budget to give hard-earned dollars, consider donating your time or a skill. Spending time onsite at a
nonpro t will also give you a look at how it operates. Finally, be sure to keep a record of your contribution for your tax return.
A few ideas to get you going
Consider these national organizations or nd a lesser-known one that speaks to you. The following is a brief selection of worthy
causes to get you thinking.
Equal rights
3. If equal rights are important to you, consider donating to the Equal Justice Initiative or the Southern Poverty Law Center. (Photo: vasara/Shutterstock)
Equal Justice Initiative protects basic human rights by challenging racial and economic injustice through a commitment to ending
mass incarceration and excessive punishment. For an in-depth exploration, consider the founder’s book, " Just Mercy."
Southern Poverty Law Center monitors the activities of domestic hate and extremist groups such as the Klu Klux Klan, white
nationalists, black separatists, and others.
American Civil Liberties Union is a leading civil rights organization founded in 1920 that stands up for all groups of people,
including women, prisoners, di erently abled, and LGBTQ people.
Planned Parenthood provides comprehensive and a ordable reproductive healthcare services to women and men, as well as a
passionate policy advocate.
National Organization for Women’s Rights (NOW) is the largest organization in the U.S. dedicated to women’s rights.
The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBTQ youth.
Science and the environment
4. To support charities that work to protect nature and the environment, take a look at the Natural Resources Defense Council or the Sierra Club. (Photo: Ruslan Ivantsov/Shutterstock)
Union of Concerned Scientists develops and implements innovative, practical solutions to some of the planet’s most pressing
problems.
350.org has climate activists in 189 countries working to unite a global movement using a bottom-up strategy.
Sierra Club was founded to promote stewardship of nature but is now ghting on the front lines of climate change.
Natural Resources Defense Council combines the power of more than 2 million members and activists with the expertise of 500
scientists, lawyers and policy advocates to ensure people’s rights to the air, the water and the wild.
Friends of the Earth is one of 75 members of Friends of the Earth International pushing for environmental reforms around the
globe.
Earthworks protects communities and the environment from the adverse impacts of mineral and energy development while
promoting sustainable solutions.
