The student created a music video for the song "Black Chandelier" by Biffy Clyro. They originally planned for the video to tell the story of an argument between a couple, but changed it during filming to better fit the song lyrics and be more practical to shoot. The student directed, filmed, and edited the video alone over one day using friends as actors. They learned editing techniques like using fade transitions and converting YouTube videos to mp4. While happy with the final video, the student aims to include more camera angles and band footage in future videos.

3. My Video
 Biffy Cylro, Black Chandelier- I chose this song partly because it is a
favourite song of mine, and partly because I felt it naturally applied itself to a
narrative type of video.
 Narrative video- I think the most effective music videos are those which tell
a story, thus I decided to make my video purely narrative.
 I always intended to start the video with an argument between a couple,
however the events which occurred after the arguments differed greatly from
my original idea. I soon realised that my initial idea would be too
complicated to execute well, so I altered my idea so that it still fit the lyrics
and told a story about a turbulent relationship, but was more practical to film.

4. The Process
 I was the only director in my group.
 I used Tom and another friend to act in the video.
 I did all the filming, both with and without a tri-pod
depending on the shot type and terrain.
 I largely ignored the production schedule I made, because
we weren’t filming at school so it all had to be done in
one day.
 I followed the initial story board to some extent, but made
some drastic changes to the story so the last part it
completely different.

5. The Process

filming stage much easier.
Although it was often
necessary to change
original ideas for the sake
of practicality.

6. Editing
The main editing technique that I learned from the project was how
to use transitions. I used fade transitions multiple times throughout
the music video to represent how the two parties are experiencing
the same emotions, so it was only appropriate to merge the scenes
together with a fade.
Although I also learned how to convert YouTube videos into mp4
files to use in my own work. This solved my problem of not having
quite enough footage.

7. Evaluation
 Overall, I am happy with my finished video, despite the fact it
only vaguely resembles my original idea.
 I am pleased with the changes I decided to make, as I feel like
they improved the video.
 Next time I intend to experiment with a wider range of camera
angles to make the finished video more interesting.
 Also, as in a real video, I would include more footage of the
band itself- as this is what the audience are really after. I could
have done this through lip-syncing, or buy using footage of
Biffy Clyro off YouTube.
