Printmaking involves creating multiple copies of an original design called a matrix or plate. Common plate materials include metal, stone, wood, linoleum, and even potatoes. The linoleum printmaking process involves carving a design into softened linoleum and applying ink to the raised surface to create a mirror image print. For a class project, students will draw Inuit-inspired designs incorporating line, texture and negative space, select one for a linocut print, and produce 10 quality prints.
